    Jordan is a great name.

  2. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Well, between him and Suh, I guess they really do believe any kind of LB should be able to produce behind those guys. Jake Ryan, GET OVER HERE! You are the foundation of our 5th round dominance!

  3. bat's avatar bat says:

So Tubby comes complete with an injury history ..Definitely a Jeffy inspired pick …

  4. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

ok i have said it over and over. i have no idea about these players or even to pretend to know what the gm or scouts know. but i do know this

if my firm was weak with a tax guy but strong at auditing, i am not going to start hiring auditors. i know it is a lame comparison, but come on. it just makes sense

  5. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

Agree that Miami is SERIOUS about stopping the run. Gotta believe SUH will NOT let this Oklahoma fat boy loaf or goof off in practice! SUH and WAKE will get in this boys’ face if that’s what it takes!!
    ————–
Disappointed that Miami agreed to re-up Tannehill for $16 Million but would not give him a stud O-Lineman so he (Tanny) can perform at his best. Maybe a couple of these fifth rounders will turn into Little and Kuechenberg, but, as usual, they are going to have to SHOW ME!!
    ————-
PIGGY; La’el Collins says he will NOT sign with ANY team if he’s drafted after round 3. –His agent says Collins will wait and enter next year’s draft instead. — BUT I believe that’s a crock of shit!! –Sitting out a year WILL NOT get him drafted early in the 2016 draft. –I say if Miami takes a flier on him with a 5th round pick, and offers him a competitive offer, he’ll TAKE IT rather than wait until 2016. –WHAT SAY YE, boys and girls?

  6. bat's avatar bat says:

So lucky we nabbed Jumbo before he was snatched off the board in the 4th round …

  7. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

He needs to drop at least 20 lbs he’s way to heavy to be effective.

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

STEVE: Are you familiar with Shula’s summer camp 12-minute run?? –In the early years Shula used to run WITH the players during this run. –He reportedly told a fat D-Lineman “If you let a fat old white guy like me beat you I WILL CUT YOU 5 seconds after I cross the finish line!!!!!

  8. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Bill Polian once said who the hell is Mel Kiper? That’s you answer. Teams have a GM, a scouting department and scouts deployed watching the country. Mel Kiper watches film on players and decides who he likes. Think of it that way. LOL

  9. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

lol OD makes a great point. hey lets pick up the 5th year of this qb, who still has his question marks but is making great improvement. as randy says his weakness is moving in the pocket. so ok. here. lets do this guys. lets pick up his 5th year and not get him any o-line help.

  10. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

When you really think about it, who are the stud OL who we can draft and plug in? We tend to look at need so much that we forget it might not be there.

  11. bat's avatar bat says:

“Agree that Miami is SERIOUS about stopping the run. Gotta believe SUH will NOT let this Oklahoma fat boy loaf or goof off in practice! SUH and WAKE will get in this boys’ face if that’s what it takes!!”

OD … You don’t toss away second round picks on guys who need others to motivate them to play well. If that’s what it takes then Fatty really isn’t into it and any success will be fleeting…IMO

  12. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Don;t worry about OL guys

The plan is to let every other team take OL
    And then in the 5th
we use all of our picks on OL!

  13. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

    Gregory to the Cowboys

  14. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

We can’t grade this draft until 2017. They’re the pros. You have to trust them right now.

  15. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I like 5th round picks a lot, but I don’t expect any of them to start for us this yr, and we need someone to play OG, really the only position we can’t start the season without.

  16. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

you know some where in the fins draft room. hickey is on the phone with tanny, just telling him. ‘i told you before the draft. if you want some o-line help you are going to have to send lauren down here to talk me into it’

  17. bat's avatar bat says:

Phillips will contribute virtually nothing and be out of the league in three years ..That’s my prediction .. Bring on the new regime …

  18. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

    CBS Sports evaluation:

    Jordan Phillips | DT, Oklahoma
    Height: 6-5 Weight: 329
This is a power player who will fit in nicely on their line next to Ndamukong Suh. I think he will be a better NFL player than he showed in college.

  21. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Cowboys lol: Hardy, Gregory… the all-sideline team

  22. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

well i for one hope they turn all those 5th round picks in to a third round selection so they can bolster the long snapper position

  23. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Dolphins LB’s are screaming HELL YEAH!

  24. New Age's avatar New Age says:

“As a player I felt like I was kind of the best pocket presence in this draft” Phillips said. He was picked to reduce Tannys sacks. Great pick!

  25. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

I liked him before the Suh signing!

So I guess I still like him?

Never thought he would go that late in the draft!!

    May have been BPA?

  26. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Ah fuckit, when do the Clippers play 😉

  27. bat's avatar bat says:

“A back injury kept Phillips out for nearly all of 2013, and that has to be checked thoroughly. On film, Phillips goes too many plays and games without making an impact.

He’s a boom-or-bust player on a weekly basis. His conditioning appears suspect, as he wore down late in games despite not playing a higher snap count. His height, leverage and pad height are always a concern, and he has to learn to play with more knee bend.”

A fairly sturdy ottoman could have served the purpose …

  28. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    OGs still on the board
    Marpet
    Tre Jackson
    Jarvis Harrison
    Aj Cann
    Hirasu Grasu (C)
    Jose Matias
    BJ Finney (C)
    John Miller
    Artie Koundijo
    Robert Meyers
    Max Garcia (C)

There are plenty of OGs left

  29. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Phillips won’t be playing NT in Miami, Suh will eat blocks freeing Phillips up to make plays or vice versa…
Whacha gonna do now Patriots OL?

  30. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Hicks
    Dawson
    Heeney
    Alexander

Just a couple of LBs still on the board

  31. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Well there goes Marpet
Now you guys can throw your TVs out of the window

  32. D's avatar D says:

Philips was a first round projection for most the yeah. He has talent and when I was looking at DTs was one of if not my favorite very close with he and malcom brown. I just didn’t feel DT was needed this year

  38. bat's avatar bat says:

What up fellas? I’m sure D-Bolt blew his load when we picked Jordan Phillips. He always liked him

  42. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Bat

You hear websites talk about 300 pounders with no motivation every year
They blow it out of proportion

    Big DTs need breaks sometimes

  43. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    Jordan Phillips
Strengths Massive frame with long arms. Athletic lower body for a man his size. Read-and-react two-gap nose with ability to eat space and free linebackers. Uses length effectively and was able to split double teams as season wore on. Swim move for quick wins and trips into backfield when Sooners let him penetrate. Athletic with nimble feet and pursuit speed of a man much lighter. Should be able to carry additional muscle and girth.
Weaknesses Scouts consider him a flash player who can dominate a game but will disappear during stretches. Needs to play with better knee bend and lower pad level. Loses some leverage and becomes top-heavy wrestler at times. Not effective as pass rusher. Stalls out early and settles for looking to bat down passes. Doesn’t crank up a consistent bull rush. Consistency of motor could be improved.
Draft Projection Round 1 or 2
Sources Tell Us “He has the body type and length to play in a 3-4 or 4-3 front, but there is no reason to move him from the nose. If he gets that motor going, he could be a dominant pro.” — AFC North scout
    NFL Comparison Terrance Knighton
Bottom Line Nose tackle with desired height, weight and speed. Flashes talent necessary to project a ceiling as a dominant run stuffer best suited for a 3-4 defense. Phillips’ ability to eat up blocks should help him earn a high grade, but it’s his potential as a big athlete with above-average range for the position that could turn him into a Pro Bowl nose.

  44. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I like how everyone pretends our OL play didn’t improve last year even with the Albert injury. We get Albert back healthy, a 2nd year in the system under Benton and we can easily still draft a couple of guys to compete with Thomas. There will be veteran cuts, and like it or not some of us think Turner has what it takes..and the staff might too.

Let it play out. I admit, DL is a headscratcher, but in the end, it was the main reason we didn’t make the playoffs for two consecutive years, and I said that long before this offseason. You win the AFC East by putting Brady on his back. Period. (lol! Exclamation mark!)

  45. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I feel real confident in Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner. I also feel real confident in Obama.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Non-sequitir, doesn’t matter how you feel about Thomas and Turner. Besides, most folks here are ridiculously biased against these two guys IMHO. I trust very few of you to look at it with any objectivity. Especially with Turner. He could still be a stud, and I’m holding out that hope. Thomas wasn’t nearly as bad last year as folks made him out to be, but since he wasn’t a probowler to offset his rookie campaign, nobody bothered changing their minds.

  46. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

that is a shock there the pats taking a safety in the second round. i would have bet my house they would have taken a ball boy out of usf who is known for deflating a football without getting caught

  47. bat's avatar bat says:

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      He’s not a project

      He is big run stuffer
      That is what he is

He’s probably a two down guy

I think he is what he already is
We don;t need him to be anything else but a run stuffer on early downs

teams ran all over us last season at the end of the season
That’s why we missed the playoffs

  48. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I forgot to mention Ramik Wilson

Jordan Phillips can do standing backflips

in full football gear. I heard the guy is a freak but needs more stamina and dedication to his craft. One of the commentators said he was top 10 in terms of athletic abilities.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

If he can do a standing backflip in full pads at that size, it’s a fact. How many here have ever been able to do a standing backflip (Jahn raises his hand knowing full well he couldn’t do it in pads and with 140 fewer pounds to lift off the ground).

  51. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It doesn’t matter how I feel now about Thomas and Turner, or by game 10 when we’re out of the playoffs, but that doesn’t make them any better.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think we missed the playoffs last season based on our run defense
      and Phillips directly addresses that

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Oh, it wasn’t because we couldn’t block and score points? How many points did we score against the Ravens and the Patriots with the playoffs on the line. Don’t bother looking, 14 and 13 respectively

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

How’d we do overall on scoring? 11th in the league.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I reject your negative forward looking statement. Throw in the towel if you like. I’m still very optimistic about this team. It’s a single fuckin’ draft pick of a player who was projected well within the range we too him.

Our DL play isn’t going to be the reason we miss the playoffs last year. You can assume the OL will be, but they are on an upward arc, not downward. In case you missed it.

  55. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

lol the rays win 2-0 as the visiting team at the tropic in st. pete. lol way to go balt. riot some more.

  56. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Bat, Phillips will be a 3rd or 4th DT in our rotation. Suh and Mitchell start then probably Johnson and Phillips. We’re not asking him to be the workhorse but play 12-18 snaps PG and some STs as he learns how to be a pro. You’re rooting for the worst. LOL

    He has talent.

For the record I picked Jordan Phillips to some team (don’t remember which team) in the late 1st round in our blog mock. I even asked Piggy why he was no longer an option.

For us I think this was purely BPA and upside. If he goes bad we bust. Not the end of the world for his upside at #52. At 6-5 330, 5.17, 28 reps of 225 and good mobility is sick. There aren’t many guys like him walking the planet. LOL

We’re also focused on our division.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I guess when philbin told Ross we missed the playoffs because we couldn’t stop the run he meant it. Suh and now Phillips

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

        Starks and Odrick are gone.

It goes back to moving on from some of the old guard that were part of mediocre seasons. We can’t really blame the team from trying. 🙂

  57. bat's avatar bat says:

“I think he is what he already is
We don;t need him to be anything else but a run stuffer on early downs”

A clever coach may figure out that he can throw the ball at will while tubby is in there just taking up space .. A really clever coach…

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Said clever coach is a dumbass if he thinks that Suh can’t still penetrate or that Vernon or Wake can take off their QBs head. Have at it clever coach. By all means. LOL…

  58. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The problem with not having a 3rd is that we might miss the run at OGs

Marpet and now Cann are gone

Tre Jackson and Jose Matias watch begins

  59. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Well it’s not a phin’s draft unless we screw the pooch but at least we waited till the second round. We missed out on a lot of good LBs and perhaps the 2 best fits for our OL in this draft. I feel like Colon Pokey has shown up and sodomized us all again

Why are they on an upward arc? If ALbert is out, this line is less than mediocre. Explain to me why they’re better, when they were awful down the stretch without Albert.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Look at the 2014 stats and the 2015 stats. Then tell me how stats don’t matter. lol….

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Tell me what happened the game before that. Tell me how many games we needed to win in that stretch?

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Without taking anything away from Phillips abilities, I think oline would have been a better pick.

  67. bat's avatar bat says:

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

  75. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Jahn, 6 sacks against BAL, and 4 against a less than stellar NE defense, and those 2 games essentially eliminated us from the playoffs. Do I tell a fib?

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Why would I let you cherry pick weeks 13 and 15 and not talk about week 17 when we gave up 37 to the Jets? Or week 16 when we gave up 35 to the Vikes, and oh by the way STILL WON.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

      Mike,
That was actually a really good defense last year. Also, we didnt have Albert by that point which did hurt our OL.

The real problem is that none of the OG drafted so far would really be a huge upgrade against the dominant DLs we will be facing. We need a better gameplan than just drafting a new guy and feeding him to the wolves.

  92. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I actually agree with ya Boulder. I thought OL would be the pick, but who? I had just heard on NFL radio that Fisher was dropping on a medical. I had heard on this board any other possible candidates right there were not a scheme fit.

I was puzzled by DL as well, but in the end, if I’m forced to answer the question: Why did we collapse down the stretch, I think it was the defense. Clearly the guys who’s jobs are on the line felt the same I guess. Nothing I can do about it anyway. Just gotta let it play out.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:
