Suh is here, everything is different now

by son of a son of a shula

Aw would you shut up and quit saying the same thing over and over again son – sheesh we’re sick of it. I understand if you feel that way but let me explain a little before you tune me out.  Once in a while things happen to teams and it changes them, sometimes for the better – see Shaq to  the Lakers and sometimes not so much – see Haynesworth to the Redskins. Of course without having seen Suh yet to play a game in Miami either way is possible. Suh chose to come to Miami to establish himself as one of the great players in history and to become a champion. Quite frankly the change in this team is palpable.

The Dolphins paid 114 million dollars and in walked instant swag. Suh wasn’t going to go to a loser, he had enough of that. It was evident that Miami was close but lacked a couple of ingredients. Swag ie; confidence and leadership among them. Suh brings both. Throw out a few chumps who didn’t embrace a team first attitude along with a few guys who simply didn’t get it done and bring in a bonafide superstar. Suh plays 80% of the snaps a year, goes to ProBowls, and forces teams to have to game plan against him. How many Offensive Coordinators lost sleep over facing Starks or Odrick? Be honest.

Suh strives to be great and everyone around him feeds off of that. Suh makes us legit. No longer is Miami a team that has decent talent but can’t get over the hump. We now have expectations. Expectations of making the playoffs, finally. Suh makes everyone on the team legit. How much would everyone be questioning the big contract Tannehill, without a playoff appearance, got without Suh being here. Without Suh could we even have taken a potential star Wide Receiver with the 14th pick in the draft or had to settle for a player to help out the front 7 who got smoked last December.

The X’s and O’s are pretty simple. Miami has a beast coming right through the front door, lining up a few short steps from your QB. You have to design to block him and even then you are likely not too. He then makes both of the DE’s job easier, he makes the Linebacker’s jobs easier and if the secondary, which happens to have Brent Grimes, doesn’t have to cover as long they instantly become better. These things are simple to figure out and to understand. The difference is what happens on the sidelines, at practice and in the locker room. Guys see this greatness, this desire and dedication up close every day.  They all become better. This is why the name “Chief” has been given to Suh inside the locker room and by the coaches. The Chief is showing them how to be great.

Enjoy this run Dolphin fans. We’re in for a fun ride with Suh shredding offensive lines as Miami kicks ass this year.

The Others

Ryan Tannehill based on every video I have seen looks so good. He pops up out of his drop and is firing darts. He’s running bootlegs, I’ve seen him running drills for the read option. His speed looks good. Everything is looking good for Tannehill as he enters year 2 in the Lazor Offense. Is Ryan about to become a Pro Bowler?

Jamil Douglas wasted no time taking first team snaps. He may have the opportunity to lock down the LG position with Dallas Thomas now nursing a shoulder injury.  I’m anxious to see him in pre season games.

LaMichael James has elicited quite a bit of buzz so far. Is he the change of pace guy we really haven’t had in some time. Even Ricky and Ronnie were similar.

Jarvis “Juice” Landry for all he did last year to endear us this early he has fully surpassed so far this year. We may be watching another bonafide star round into shape. The future is so bright for him. I love the energy and devotion he brings. We’re all excited to watch his second season here with the Dolphins.

Terrence Fede is said to be making huge steps and based on the talk you hear may very well be a huge part of the team this season. He’ll [play Special teams and play a pivotal rotational role in the D-Line. He should be a lot of fun to watch these next few weeks.

There are more. I love the vibe I get from camp this year. The competition is tough but so is the resilience. Guys like Brice McCain, who’s going at it every day with Landry and receiving high praise or Jordan Cameron fitting in seamlessly with this offense and becoming a legit Red Zone threat for us. We see Greg Jennings with his inspired play and leadership becoming a trusted target. Rashad Jones appears to be gearing up for a Pro Bowl type of year and Ju’wan James showing improvement entering his second year after a stellar rookie year.

Looking Good Miami.

From Omar. He’s starting to get it

    5. QB Ryan Tannehill: He’s improved. There’s no doubt about it. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s ready to lead this team to playoffs, but the guy is better. Keep an eye on him tonight. He’s more accurate, he’s throwing with both touch and purpose, and he’s making good decisions. He has two INTs so far in training camp. One was a poor throw, the other was the result of a tipped pass that wasn’t poorly thrown. That’s pretty good. His deep ball has a bit more finesse and he’s shown a better ability to thrown into tight windows, especially in the red zone. Tannehill is becoming (dare I say it?) fun to watch.

    3. Irving Fryar’s wife slashes his hand before AFC title game
Four days before the Pats faced the Dolphins in the 1986 AFC Championship Game in Miami, Irving Fryar, a wide receiver and the best punt returner in the NFL, cut two fingers and had his hand put in a cast. Pats GM Patrick Sullivan said it was a freak accident: “This morning, he was putting a kitchen knife back in the drawer … It slipped and cut his hand.”

Despite the fact that this explanation defied logic, newspapers reported it without comment.

Fryar, awho caught 39 passes and scored 10 TDs during the regular season, missed the Dolphins game but did play in the Super Bowl, scoring the Pats’ lone TD.

The Boston Globe reported before the Super Bowl that the knife cut, which required six stitches, came during a fight between Fryar and his wife, Jacqueline. He knocked her down, the Globe reported, and she got up and slashed his hand. Both went to the hospital.

Fryar ended up making a remarkable turnaround in his life and enjoyed 17 years in the NFL. He retired in 2000 after 17 seasons, and is the sixth-leading receiver league history with 851 career receptions.

If I’m correct he was the one who Nebraska choose to throw to on 4th down in Miami Hurricanes 1st National championship in end zone.

George Allen imposes curfew before Super Bowl VII
Sometimes the greatest distraction can be having no distractions at all, especially during the pressure-packed week preceding the Super Bowl. One example of this: Redskins head coach George Allen’s strictures before Super Bowl VII. Redskin Roosevelt Taylor went so far as to say that Allen’s curfew was the reason the Redskins lost.

“He screwed up the whole damned week,” Taylor said. “We got there being confined by curfew one night a week during the season. We get out there, and there’s curfew every night. We had to eat every meal together, you went to practice together, to the press conferences together. George really hated Los Angeles. He got that from George Halas. Halas used to call L.A. the ‘sex-pool’ of America. George believed it too.

“So the whole week became a boring thing. Even though we worked hard, the boredom carried over to the game. … It sure didn’t help us.”

Man, those Mets are exciting! Last nights game with the Rays was a real nail biter, a very good game overall. Each team answered the others big blow, until the Mets finally had the last answer. All this while the Nationals were cruising with 4-1 lead in the 8th inning. Well, CarGo hits a grand slam, and the Nats lose 5-4, while the Mets come back and win 4-3, and now have a 2.5 game lead. This night could be the turning point of the season for both teams.

  88. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Veteran cornerback Brice McCain has been making a lot of noise in training camp, but rookie cornerback Bobby McCain is also coming on strong.

Bobby McCain made a great play in the corner end zone to stay in bounds and intercept a Tannehill pass.

“I saw the play coming, I saw the split, I saw the leverage — things coaches have been teaching me all camp,” he said. “I just reacted on the ball and made the play.”

Me andBobby McCain has been very promising so far. I would like Lippett to continue to grow and impress as well, even if he won’t be ready to start right away, or maybe not even this season.

I like that they are both making plays on the ball!
Even if they get beat every now and then.
That will get cleaned up with experience!! 🙂

Jordan Cameron played well. He caught both of @ryantannehill1’s TD passes last night. #Dolphins

    Mike,
That Mets game was one of the most exciting I’ve seen in a while. I’m a bit nervous about their relief pitching, but we’ll see what happens.

Guys are gonna get beat sometimes, they just need to be able to bounce back. Look at the Nats reliever giving up a grand salami. I agree they’ve been shaky, and we definitely have a sure thing in any phase of our bullpen. It’s going to be on the starters in a playoff series to go as deep as they can.

Dolphins rookie defensive back Tony Lippett flashed in the scrimmage. He nearly had two interceptions, one against Matt Moore and one against McCleod Bethel-Thompson. Lippett is trying to make the conversion from a college wide receiver to defensive back in the NFL.

Cameron can be HUGE for us if he stays healthy. He’s the type of TE I’ve been asking for for years.

#Dolphins rookie S Ced Thompson with a nice stick to force a fumble. Thompson has made a couple nice plays tonight.

Thanks for that info Wyo – Cedric Thompson is another one of my favorites. Like that kids story and attitude.

Ryan Tannehill has shown so much improvement this camp. He is more consistent, he’s stepping up as a leader, and he’s connecting on more deep balls. I think he’s finally ready to challenge to become a tier one QB.
