Game Day Wrap Up: Texans @ Dolphins

PiggyatGame

If you don;t know by now the Dolphins demolished the Houston Texans on Sunday.  And many Dolfans were there to see it, including this little Piggy.

The win broke an inexplicable streak:  The Dolphins were 0-6 against the Texans entering a game.  Well that changed in a big way.  The game was over by the end of the 1st quarter. By halftime the Dolphins had a 41-0 lead over the Texans.

MatthewsTD2

The Dolfans won the toss but deffered.  The Texans promptly when 3 and out losing 2 yards on their opening drive.

On their opening drive the Dolphins threw a few short passes to Jarivs Landry and ran Lamar Miller for a few first downs.

But the big play was a slant that was right on the money to Rishard Matthews who took the pass 53 yards to the house!  Most of the 53 yards was after the catch.  In this pic Prawn points out who Matthews is – and if you needed him to do that you are an idiot.

LandryTD1

So then on the next drive the Texans gained a total of minus 3 yards.  They went 3 and out again.

The Dolphins also went 3 and out after failing to covert a 3rd and 1.  And then they punted to the Texans again.  Who gained 7 yards – which is a total of 2 yards in 3 drives.  Guess what…they went 3 and out again.

And the Dolphins only managed 1 play on their next drive – but it was a good one.  It took Jarvis Landry 15 seconds to run 50 yards.  He basically covered the whole field.  Landry caught a pass about 15 yards downfield near the sideline.  It was an easy first down – step out right?

LandryBreakdwon

Nope – not Landry.

So gain a few more yards on the sideline

Nope – not Landry

He broke a bunch of tackles – and the downfield blocking was excellent

Boom one of the most exciting 50 yards TDs in Dolphin History.  Check out the breakdown.

Ladry3

Okay Landry that’s enough…

No…okay…MVP MVP MVP

After the Texans lost 3 yards on their next drive and went 3 and out…again…Landry scored his 2nd TD to give the Dolphins a 21-0 lead.

Landry finished the game with 5 catches for 83 yards.  Anyone who didn’t watch the game will not gawk at his performance.  But trust me he was out of this world fighting for every inch

MillerLongTF

So now its Lamar Miller’s turn to catch a 50 yard TD pass.

After the Dolphins went up 21 -0 on Landry’s 2nd score, the Texans pooped on their next drive.

The Dolphins drove the ball 83 yards finishing with a 53 yard screen pass for a TD to Lamar Miller.

Maybe Landry’s stats aren;t that impressive.  But Miller’s are.  175 yards on the ground and a long 85 yards TD run (not pictured here but it took the lead to 35-0) and 61 yards receiving – most of it on that screen.

Jonespic6

And don’t forget the defense.

All those 3 and outs early set the tone.

This is what it looks like when you score 2 pick sixes in consecutive weeks.

SuhandWake2sacks

And this is what 2 sacks each looks like.  Wake had 2 and Suh had 2

CampbellPrawn

And this is a happy coach!

image

Oh yeah

and guess who had an excellent game too…

4 TDs, 0 ints a perfect passer rating and an NFL record for consecutive completions (over 2 games)

wow

FFR, we also played a lot of backups in the 2nd half and I think the plan was to keep the starters fresh for the short week. We couldn’t have done that in a close game but the amazing 1st half allowed it.

I also think the team needs to learn how to finish after something like that, they’ve never experienced it. LOL

They finished that game just fine, even without a short week, too many blowouts make you weak.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You don’t want to lose 26-3 at any point. I know we were in keep the clock moving mode but still, I’d like to see more of a complete finish. Campbell reiterated that message.

They didn’t have to have meetings about laying down, they just didn’t put in the effort, kind of like the end of the 3rd and entire 4th qtr yesterday. Our D really sucks unless they play with max effort.

There’s too many things against us to win this game, and it’s really fucked up that we know the cheats are getting some kind of call that’s going to turn the game.

yep, said it over and over. the nfl is not going to let the pats lose this year.

Not sure I’m buying that hook, line and sinker. We had some balanced attack games under Philbin as well and Lazor called some kooky plays at times. I think Lazor was instructed to establish the run and not get away from it. I still think we pass sometimes when we should keep it on the ground.

You know the Cheat has a crew to just study our snap count over the past two weeks but they really aint got nothing on us.
All they can do is force Turn Overs.
    Look for that all game long;
Strip the ball, punch it out, Jump routs, its coming.
Could be some big yards after the catch when Tanny makes them whiff on those.
Limit the T/As to 2 and

  14. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Jets also think they’re better than they are. They dominated us in the UK for a half and then begged us to steal the game which we couldn’t take advantage of. They were dominated by the Eagles though the score made it look more competitive than it was most of the game and they let the game get away yesterday to the Pats who thrive on mistakes. If we beat the Pats we’re right back in this thing.

Steve, I’ve said the same thing about how we played backups a lot in the 2nd half but as a coach you don’t look at your backups and say well it’s okay we got dominated on the scoreboard because they were in there. He expects them to play better too. I think in the big picture it was good work for the backups and good rest for the starters. Everything is going right for Dan thus far. 🙂

So does anyone have a good pic from the game that we can use for the header up above? I was thinking a group photo from the fest. Rockphin sent me one but he said some had already gone in to the stadium. I’d like to try for one with everyone in it.

  23. bat's avatar bat says:

Other than the “cruise control” second half, I had a hard time finding something to complain about. I settled on the maddening addiction to running the ball out of the shotgun on short yardage. I had hoped this idiocy had went away with Bazooka Joe, but sadly it continues to vex me.

  24. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Bat, running out of the shotgun isn’t going to go away completely but at least we’re seeing more under center and a commitment to it. We’ve rushed for over 430 yards the last 2 weeks.

  26. bat's avatar bat says:

Tim … I don’t mind running out of the gun, it’s when we do it on third or 4th and short that I hate it. It has a remarkable rate of failure.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah not a fan either. I also hate when we’re running well and from under center and say we get 9 yards, we go right to shotgun and maybe even pass. Just keep going to the well in those situations.

  27. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    bat,

my faithful leader of the underworld. i saw some running from under center. not that you are wrong (just keep using that pineapple on hitler) but all the talk of nothing changed other then a rah rah coach isnt true. they do run the ball from different formations.

My daughter who was there yesterday had tannehill, Landry, Miller and Matthews on her fantasy team. Plus our defense too since Denver was on a bye. She needed a receiver and I told her to get Matthews so she was excited when he scored the first TD. She had 160 something points.

Landry and Miller both say out the entire second half.

no way, no way that happens. the nfl will change the rules right then and there and make moving goal post. it is they dominate and just win or not. anything close and they will make some new rule up like. ‘the kick went right thru the center, that is a 45 yard penalty and an automatic win for the cheats’

I think I agree with OD’s wife. My response on her car would probably have been a little less…um, mature. lol

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

THANK YOU, CAV. – – Mrs.OD also will tell me when a blonde is getting too near our car when we are driving. She’ll say “Bond on cellphone alert, blonde on cellphone alert in the next lane.” Sadly, Florida is one of the states where you can legally drive while talking on the phone (MAJOR DONATIONS to a certain political party by a major cellphone company). TEXTING while driving is illegal, but they can’t pull you over for JUST doing that. It’s a “secondary violation,” vs. a headlight being out, which is a primary violation. so if you’re speeding AND texting, they can nail you for both. But if you’re just texting, they can’t ticket you (UNLESS YOU HAVE A JETS BUMPER STICKER WHICH SOME OF THESE DUMB FUCKS DO!).
        —————–
IT’s a scientific fact that driving through redneck north Florida with a New York license plate AND a JETS BUMPER STICKER means you are driving AT LEAST 11 mph over the speed limit!! – – Depending on your attitude, your violation may be upped to 30 MPH over the speed limit!

Franks was booming kicks through the end zone all day and when I got home I turned on the night game and there is Sturgis kicking it out of bounds on some funking knuckleball kick.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Yeah, I saw that, and don’t miss his BS. He didn’t have one kickoff as a touchback that I saw, he sucks. Made one and missed one on 50+, but after his make he kicked it out of bounds, the one you saw.

HERDFAN; AS FAR as I know, Manitoba is the only one who got everybody in a group photo. IF you have his contact number, he would be the guy to get hold of for that.

  77. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

unbelievable how these NFL players don’t have a clue how to run out a clock. With about 2:30 left on the clock the RB on the Cardinals catches a pass and runs for a first down, then runs out of bounds instead of falling down. First down run for zero yards, TO Balt. (none left). On second down Carson Palmer throws the ball away (Eli-esque from Monday Night Game 1 against Dallas), instead of just taking a sack, and gets called for grounding. Third down and 22 they run the ball. 2:00 minutes left instead of :30 seconds Az punts. Balt gets down inside the 5, but Flacco throws an int.

Balt. at 2-5 could’ve still been dangerous, if they get on a run, but now at 1-6 you can put a fork in them.

Imagine being an Olineman, under Philbin, and you pass 45 times a game and run it 15. You have to chase these smaller Dlineman around for 3/4 of the game and only get to beat them up 1/4 of the game, of course you’re going to be pissed. Now with more balance you get to have some fun, and punish the DL, now they aren’t so fast rushing the passer, because you’re beating them up and they have to watch out for you coming after them.

The cheats can do it, because they hold, and don’t get called for it, so their OL don’t mind it so much.

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

The linemen do appear happier now that they are allowed to play forward. Results have been very nice to date. Yes two non elite teams but we also played some really uninspired ball against other non elite trams pre DC. Keep the effort coming and results can also follow. We can do this !!!!

Ken, i think Diggs was on a few of our man crush lists. Piggy and I both really thought he would make a great selection for us as well, and i believe there were a couple other fans as well. He was always my 2nd receiver selection for us as i thought we needed two. Picking up Stills changed it a little but i was still a fan of taking him or Hardy later.

I do think that Parker is going to turn out to be a big selection for us, may be slower than a lot of us want but he’s going to pay dividends and make us happy.

My opinion of receiver selections for us and the offense we have is to look at receivers who excel in the return game. Diggs was one of those guys and thats why i keyed on him. Lockett was another guy. Its their vision of the field for YAC that makes them work in this offense and probably more so now than it did even previous to the coaching change. We do need the big target guys like Parker, but they too need middle route ability and YAC skills to go along with size. Still i think you almost start with looking at people who are good returners in college, and then make sure they have the rest of the skills in receiving, like precise route running and good burst speed when you make your selection.

Every time the Phins scored I’d scream at him, “Are you coming back yet? Get your ass back to the Phins damn it!”
He’d say, not yet, that was at 14-0, then I kept it up loudly, by 35-0 in 2nd Qtr he did have tears of joy mixed with rain. By the time it was 41-0 he was back…lol 😀
He’s a cool fun dude too.
