Game Day! Dolphins @ Jets

headerI hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends.  I don’t have much to say about this game.  If we have any hopes of winning one in our division this year, today is the day.  I see all the arguments on here, it’s the play calling, it’s the offense, it’s the defense, it’s injuries, it’s the officials, the foot, Tannehill, Suh, coaching.  There’s no shortage of reasons and plenty of blame to go around.  We have good players.  We have some great players.  We have some that are young and need some time to develop.  We have some that have been around awhile and might not get any better. Not a lot different from any other team.   No reason why we can’t win this game.

I hate losing and I can’t drink during the game so they better win.

Lets Go Dolphins!

AT LEAST 4 Dolphins knocked out of today’s game. That new anti-injury exercise guy is working miracles, isn’t he??? –ANOTHER of T-Baum & Ross’s “better ideas!”

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Come on man football is a physical sport. Really, blame the owner? LOL

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

YES, TIM I DO BLAME THE OWNER FOR THIS MESS!!–IF YOU give Ross a free pass for this, you are the cause for the LOL!!! Ross has fucked-up every important hire he’s made from the “EXERCISE GUY” to the GM and HEAD COACH!! – – His “exercise guy” is just another bad example of money blown without positive results!! –ANYBODY WITH HALF A FOOTBALL BRAIN COULD HAVE TOLD ROSS this “exercise guy” is useless in a contact sport. NOW do you get it?? I CAN ONLY HOPE!

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I agree with OD, Ross hasn’t done us any favors. It was he who requested we start the season with 15 road games and one game in London too.

what is so sad, is that not only are they losing, they are not even competitive in doing so

    OD,

Those players played well for us but Philbin couldn’t handle their personalities. Need to do a better job with the hiring process.

So… Tanne played well- too bad the oline sucks

      The OL was fine today
      Even with the injuries

Piggy- you know what I am saying here…

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

The OL was shit today especially in first half. It doesn’t exonerate Tannehill but it played like shit too

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

PIGGY: DO YOU NEED YOUR EYES CHECKED?? FOX turned in the worst half of football I’ve seen since the Columbo days. And our “substitute center” played like shit, as Ken correctly stated.

    Gdp,

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Stupid may be to strong- I think more inconsequential

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

IF Letting Campbell go is stupid, then, rest assured, THAT’s what ROSS will do!! –It was genius Ross who told Todd Bowles he “didn’t make the cut” despite his 2-1 record as Dolphins head coach. Instead, Ross chose Philbin!! –I could see Bowles with a little smile on his face a couple of times today! REVENGE IS SWEET!!

  8. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I disagree with Polian for once. Tanny may be shell shocked behind this OL but his fundamentals are bad right now. When you need almost 60 attempts to break 300 yards…you aren’t playing well.

  9. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Did Polian ever wonder how an OL can perform well playing in front of Tannehill? Lol

That is why Parker is a special player

cause he can score meaningless td’s when the game is out of reach

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Bc he made a play where few players can make plays

      Come on man
      Talent is talent
You have to evaluate the young players irrespective of the score

  16. New Age's avatar New Age says:

This is how I look in front of the TV every week for 15 years.

  17. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I give Tanny credit for being tough
And that is the one reason I haven’t given up hope on him
I think you can work with everything else
We need better coaching more than anything else
To me this is not a firesale team

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

No but we have voids. I hope Parker becomes a difference maker. He has more talent than every WR on this team including Landry who is really good. They are a good 1-2 punch.

On defense we need edge rushers where is Fede? We need a top level LB and another DB to step up.

  18. New Age's avatar New Age says:

This is what irritates me about Tannehill. You look at the final stats, you see some really good plays every once in a while, but none of it is really the truth. The truth is he scored 2 virtually meaningless TDs during garbage time and looked very inaccurate all day He needs some Hue in his life.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The bad plays early in the game killed us today

      But again
Give him credit for being tough

There are no garbage time stats if he is not out there playing hard

  19. TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Say what you will- with the absence of “all-pro” pouncey, the oline was adequate against the jets pass defense- most teams don’t run well against them

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      I thought so too
I didn’t think the OL played poor today
Excerpt the bad snaps which were way too much

I don’t think we Need pounced
I don’t think we need multiple 1st rounders on the OL either
But that’s just me I guess

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

RIGHT YOU ARE, PIGGY! NOT picking an O-Lineman in the first 3 rounds cost us dearly this year! NOW if we had someone really good doing the picking, the results might have been better, especially in the O-Line.

  20. ocalahowie's avatar ocalahowie says:

    OD
I went there in the 1st minute
Ross spent millions on a big conditioning program yet we look to be the most banged up team in the league,
I’m with you on another Ross “DUH MOMENT”
and this banged up thing is no excuse for ho bad we are
    WE’RE BAD 😦

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

Thanks, Howie. Ross has spent more and has less to show for it than ANY other owner in the NFL this season. Spending vast sums of money doesn’t make you a good owner. Spending vast sums of money WISELY makes you a WINNING OWNER, Picking T-BAUM to be his de facto GM has pushed Ross and his team into salary cap hell!!! (JUST as he did with the Jets his last 2 years there.)

  21. TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

In homage to Rush, I’m going with a tribute score for next week
    21-12 B etter A t L osing

  22. rgs322's avatar rgs322 says:

Yea, that was bad. This team needs a lot of new faces next year.

  23. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Piggy,

Tannehill has talent, toughest, and a willingness to do what is necessary. A new staff would consider him a very good selling point. At the same time, he’s flailing around in this O and this will make his 3rd system next year. With all the changes, the protection issues, and the learning curve he already had to work on…he may never get better. He needs someone special at this point to ever get there.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I hope whomever the new coach is
      He doesn’t build around Tannehill
But doesn’t write him completely off either

I think we are going to have to ride out some subpar performances with him for a little while

Like I said, I would focus on building around Suh through the draft for now
      No high priced free agents
No major changes I the roster

Just add some young talent to the D behind Suh

      LBs and DBS
      Maybe a pass rusher
Make the first 4 rounds of the draft count and try to get immediate contributors in the first half of the draft

We should probably draft players from the big conferences like the SEC or the big 10 too

Guys that are more likely to contribute right away
You can look for those small school gems a little later

  24. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

9 rushes !!! Forget “being behind”… we should have had 9 rushes (at least) by halftime

  25. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Piggy,

I think we have the talent on offense that we need. We have a ton of OL but the defense really has holes. I agree that building around Suh would be the wisest course. I wouldn’t mind one OL early though just because our guys never last an entire season or even close.

  26. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

sad part of our season is that there doesn’t seem to be a ‘dominant’ college player to “suck” for…. 😦

  27. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Piggy, I think I see what you’re saying, that no need to build around Tanny. The talent is there on offense, just need a way better system & play calling to get the most that unit.

The Defense is void of as much talent that the Offense has, so YES, we do need some fresher/better talent around Suh, the LB’s, DB’s, and probably another DE.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      I think that’s the key
There is young talent on offense

      But on D
I think we need to spend most of our draft there

      We need better coaching too
But we do have players that can make things happen

  28. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I am sorry but the OL was piss poor today especially early in the game when we tried to run. No push what so ever. Douglas at OC not his fault but all the low snaps were killing us.

  29. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Star Wars Dolphins

  30. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

this team is crap. I don’t think hickey sticks. Tanny needs to have competition in the training camp next year IMO. And until they fix this defense we’re going no where. Go get a real defensive minded coach like Zimmer. Run the ball and play defense then maybe we get better next year. I think the 1st round pick should be defense. Either pass rusher or corner.

  31. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Tennessee and Houston = 2 week vacation from the reality of our team’s situation.

  32. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Newage, good call. I’ve also been saying we need OL early, maybe not 1st round but by the 3rd.
I want a LT prospect cause Albert is aging and is a question mark with his health.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Yeah, always someone injured if not multiple players injured. To think that Albert will last much longer is wishful thinking. We should get the BPA but if it’s a OL early, then I won’t mind.

I would prefer to build up our D early but if they really want Tannehill to be that elite QB the FO thinks he is, they need an OL.

  33. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Boulder, a defensive HC isn’t a cure all. Zimmer is doing great, but he’s got Norv Turner as OC which helps, and still has AP.
They beat another defensive HC in Atlanta, but they have a shaky Kyle Shanahan that is mismanaging the great Matty Ice that the Phins missed on drafting for Jake Long instead. 😉

We need good/great coordinators on both sides of the ball & a good/great GM picking the ingredients off the shelf.

  34. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

if the team goes 0-6 against the division whoever is picking the players is doing a crappy job. Hickey should be gone too. I think the new HC should have a say who his GM is gonna be.

  35. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    My keepers list:
    Offense:
    Landry
    Tannehill – maybe

    Defense:
    Suh
    Jones

Other than that there is not a lick of talent on this team worth building around. I like Lamar Miller but is he worth a big FA contract? Ditto Rishard Matthews? Olivier Vernon?

  36. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Douglas really struggled at center. Let’s not act like he was okay because he wasn’t. This team has come apart in all phases.

    If I’m Ross I reset.

  37. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

I re-sign Miller over Vernon and Matthews.

if they lose miller, i would like to see them take fsu’s dalvin cook. he is a special talent

  38. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Tim:
I like Miller but I don’t re-sign him if we are doing a reset. I play Ajayai and draft someone in round 4 or 5

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Miller is way more explosive than Ajayi. He’s not used properly. How many touches did Miller have and even with that said, how was he used? He’s one of our best players and most explosive and we look elsewhere. Dumb!

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Nope- don’t overpay for rb when they have 3.8 avg lifespan. And I don’t care that Miller has been less used than avg rb- still don’t overpay.

  39. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Boulder, hire a GM/main man and go from there. I don’t care if Ross retains Tannebaum and looks to him to oversee the football logistics. Just keep him away from personnel. Hickey is likely gone and I don’t think he was bad, just bad timing. But Ross is going to look for the proven coach. I’d target Mike Smith. I think he’ll be good for RT and the running game being a defensive coach.

I’m telling you good defense and 30/30 offense and RT can win. Lazor is overmatched. He should be fired tomorrow.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

No to Mike Smith. He under achieved badly in Atlanta

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

13-3 twice, 5 winnings seasons with a rookie QB to start and 4 playoff appearances in 7 seasons including a championship game. But because he lost in some big games no way? His first run as a HC trumps Belichick by a lot. Just saying!

I heard him on the radio with Francesa pushing his book. He said he learned so much his first time around, he’s a coach at heart and better for it. He’s ready to go. I think he’ll be a hot HC prospect this offseason. I hope we land him and I was not high on him the first time around. Now I am.

  40. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

If I’m Miller I want the hell out of Miami even if their offer is bigger than another team that will actually make him an integral part of the offense.

  44. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I again raise the hand for Mike Shula, his dad loved to run the ball and Panthers are one of the top rushing teams @ 10-0.
A Shula is the only way for Ross to keep from losing season tix holders by the droves.

Shula’s been around awhile and has earned his day and he’s been around long enough to know who can coach up a Defense as well.

    Go Phins!

  45. New Age's avatar New Age says:

  52. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike Smith is the best HC available I’m telling you. A defensive coach who will commit to the run and put RT in better situations. He’ll also focus heavily on defense.

  53. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

  58. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I want a HC that can bring in some talented coordinators. Philbin didn’t have any that he could bring in outside of Sherman who has really bad talent. The guy can’t even win in HS ball. If Chud, or Smith can bring in more talented guys than Hue, then I’m all for it. We’ve had a poor coaching staff overall(in exp if not talent) for a long time.

I look at the guys that Marvin Lewis, John Fox,and even Petey have, or who Harbaugh had in SF and I would love quality coaches throughout the organization.

so what is your idea of committed to winning. you named mark cuban, pretty sure the dallas mavericks havent won anything in a while. i dont think you can ask much more of an owner then to spend money. what is cuban going to do, suit up and start playing. i get he may make the team with the lack of talent on this team, but i dont know what else an owner can do to ‘commit’ to winning’

now if ross makes bad decisions then say you want an owner that doesnt make bad decisions. but calling him out for not committed to winning i dont get.

Our linebackers suck and there’s Jonathan Freeney playing a huge role for NE and yet for 3 years we couldn’t use him.

It’s hard to watch patriots games when they have our ex players contributing

It’s hard for a lot of other reasons too
But I watch in hopes of seeing Brady’s knee explode

Because they have a system, that plays to the strengths of their players, we have shit.

Ninkovic was a favorite of many on here, the one preseason he played for us, so of course we cut him.

Draft uninjured players from big conferences and put them in to play. That’s the entire NE front 7 except for Freenet and Nink who we discarded.

      The bengals do it to

      It works

Draft healthy players from big conferences

We actually got a lot out of our rookies today FWIW

Parker, Ajayi, Douglas, Phillips and Bobby McCain
All of them getting playing time

I think if we stuck with Philbin we could not say that

It would hurt to get Lippett in there next week IMO

Has there ever been a more stubborn athlete than Kobe? 2-15 shooting 6pts in the first half trailing the Pacers 48-35. How do the Lakers expect to win any game, when that dumb fuck keeps shooting like that. Kobe pass the Fn ball. He shouldn’t be allowed to shoot 15 times in 2 games, let alone a half. When Tim Duncan started his decline, he took a back seat to others, and he keeps being an important player for them.

I just lost respect for Wade Phillips defense.
I’ve been screaming all nite to blitz Brady on these empty backfield 3rd & longs.
Not once, he just send 4. Brady just waits till his receiver gets open. Plus with no blitzes it allows the RB’s to go out into running routes that the LB’s can’t cover….Screw you Wade Phillips, you got to hit Brady & force him into mistakes you tool.
