Tom Coughlin

Tom Coughlin for President?

Hue Jackson

Hue Jackson – Right on brother!

Sean Payton for a 2nd RD pick? Mike Shanahan? Adam Gase? Tom Coughlin? Dan Campbell? Bill Belichick for Suh, Landry, Parker and Tannehill? Hue Jackson? Mike Shula? Teryl Austin? Mike Smith?

Who will be the next head Coach of the Miami Dolphins?

Out of all the options above, and there are sure to be other options in the near future, I actually have 2 favorites from that bunch.

If we’re going with the short term stopgap, and a HC who will give us respectability immediately, and as part of the package, grooms our next HC in Dan Campbell, I’m all for Tom Coughlin. Coughlin is a well respected HC and person in the NFL. Once a fierce disciplinarian type coach, being a military man, Coughlin was a no nonsense man. As HC of the NYG, he felt like he was losing his team, and changed his approach to a more friendlier relationship with his players, and the team responded and went to the Super Bowl and won. Is 70 years old too old? I say hell no! I’ve seen great managers in baseball like Jim Leyland, Jack McKeon succeed in their 70’s, and heck, Ronald Reagan was 70 when he was elected President, and he did a fantastic job running our country.

I like Dan Campbell, but I just don’t think he’s ready to run a team yet. Too many things he’s deficient in, but what a truly great guy to learn from Tom Coughlin would be. A true professional, a winner. Of course, nothing has been documented that Coughlin and or Cambell would agree to this set up, but it seems legitimate to me, and I like it.

If we’re looking for a long term (hopefully), I like Hue Jackson. (I would like Mike Shula too, but as so far, he hasn’t been mentioned as a coach we’re interested in) Jackson wasn’t given a fair shot with the Raiders, he went 8-8, and was fired. Incidentally, Hue’s OC in OAK was Al Saunders, the guy we brought in to “help” our offense after Philbin was fired. Jackson has done good things as OC for the Bengals. Dalton is playing his best football of his career this year, and most believe that is credit due to Hue Jackson. Bengals fans are actually crying for Dalton to play in the playoffs when they clearly all know Dalton is 0-4 in the playoffs.

  • Friday January 8th Update! *

Yesterday, the Dolphins interviewed Bears Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase.  Supposedly it was a long, thorough interview.  That means this week, the Dolphins have interviewed Mike Shanahan, Mike Smith, Teryl Austin and Anthony Lynn.  Dan Campbell will make his case today, and Doug Marrone and Hue Jackson will follow this weekend.

  44. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

That second penalty is BS. he didn’t push the ref

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

changed my mind ffr. The refs made it a chip shot. It should have been a long fg. That 2nd penalty was wrong. The refs needed to hold the flag there.

  45. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    kong

i disagree. that hit was not bad enough to change the outcome of the game. but it isnt a surprise the refs have made themselves a part of the game this year. it is getting really hard to watch football with the officiating

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

You may disagree with the rule but it was a flagarent foul that will get called every time by every crew. He’ll probably get a suspension.

  54. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    kong

problem with the rule is it is up to the refs judgement. just as easily could have called it on the hit on the bengals rb and given the bengals a shot a a fg.

you just dont call that to change the outcome of a game. and it isnt like this hasnt been going on all year with the refs making themselves a part of the outcome of a game. it is getting like the nba. to hard to watch

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

We don’t know if words were exchanged in conjunction with his actions it could have been a combination of things that resulted in the penalty

  58. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    ffr,
There is no judgement in that call. If you hit a defenseless receiver in the head, you’ll draw the flag. There are a lot of rules that judgement comes into play and I agree, it makes it too easy to manipulate. That play wasn’t even remotely close. He lowered his shoulder and clearly hit him right in the head. Every ref in every crew would have called that, he’ll get suspended, and he should be.

  59. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    kong

yet it wasnt called against the steelers when it was just as obvious. it is a judgement call, it is what it is. and when a judgement call changes the outcome of a game that is horrendous. but hey, some people enjoy watching the refs in a game, most of that do are cheats fans but some like it

  60. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Alright I going to turn in. Peace

  61. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    ken,

i wasnt talking about the extra bonus refs tv time call to effect the outcome of the game, i was talking about the initial call

  62. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

    Burfict wearing his WWOVD bracelet.

  63. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    ffr,
Bernard had turned to face the opponent and taken a step. When it happened, I personally thought it was really close and could have been called either way, but by the definition he wasn’t defenseless so I didn’t have a problem with the no call.

You’re right that determining “defenseless” is a little more ambiguous but there was zero ambiguity in the Brown hit. He was without question defenseless. Birfect cost his team the game with that play. It would have been a travesty if the refs didn’t throw the flag on that play.

  64. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    kong

dont get me wrong here. i dont care. i didnt really care who won this game. and even was hoping pitt would come back and win after that fool ran off the field after his int. i hate show boaters. but i really didnt want to watch the refs decide who won the game. like i said just getting sick of the refs making themselves part of the outcome of a game.

there used to be a rule for catching a ball, now the refs have that so confusing only they know when they will call something a catch. i dont think that is on accident

  65. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    kong,

the play didnt make the pass incomplete. calling that changed the outcome of the game. that is wrong. and it is still a judgement call, it was a refs decision that decided the game. who wnts to watch that shit.

  66. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    ffr,
We agree on the rules being too confusing and the refs impacting games too much. I really only disagree on that one play. The refs had to throw the flag there, but they proved your point with the second flag IMO.

  67. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    ffr,
Who cares whether it impacted whether or not he caught the ball? If he’d gone up and punched him in the face or cleated him in the face after he fell, but the ball was uncatchable, should the refs not throw a flag? It’s not like they made the rule up on the spot, lol.

  68. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

If Burfict doesn’t be stupid and take a shot at a guy who obviously missed the catch, then there’s no Jones penalty. I didn’t like the Jones call, but it doesn’t happen if Burfict doesn’t try to cleave Brown’s head from his neck and bring on the quickening.

  69. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    There can be only one

  70. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I hate the refs too and definitely think something needs to give on that front. In this game though…

In this game, Cincy had the ball and just needed a FG to win. Stupid play by the player and really a stupid call by Lewis. They were close enough to waste lots of time, TOs, and still get an easy FG. Birflict and Jones are way too experineced to be doing that kind of stuff, so they deserved the flags. Im glad NE plays the Chiefs as well.

    Go Chiefs!!

  71. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    kong

here, let me make this easy regarding the call. it is the worst call ever if NE wins next week. if NE loses next week it is the best call a ref ever made.

Back then, he was relying on outsiders such as Carl Peterson, the former Chiefs general manager and Ross’ former football confidant.

Now, Ross believes he’s learned from his mistakes.

“I felt much more comfortable,” he said of this search. “I wasn’t relying upon third parties. I had a better idea of what I wanted.

  77. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Im not sure about the hire yet, but Im pretty happy with the way they’ve done it since. Gase has total control of his destiny. His vision will be the one implemented/ He doesn’t have Ireland taking a front seat, or Tannabaum, Ross, Grier, etc.

While I wanted an experienced coach, I don’t think Gase needs an older staff. I definitely want to see where this will go. There is no way his staff is worse than Philbin’s was so Im at least a little encouraged already.

  78. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

  80. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Opie was the last of the candidates interviewed or discussed on here that I wanted. Or betters stated, I DID NOT WANT. I think this as a terrible mistake (again) by a clueless owner and awful front office led by doofus Tannenbum. There is nothing I can do about it but hope I am wrong and they got it right. As of now I hate this move.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I hated it and the reasoning behind it but Tannehill does hold the keys for the quickest turnaround and best chance for overall roster improvement. So, getting the guy with the best odds at making Tanny better is solid. I think Hue is a stud but if he really wanted to go to SF, then it sucks but oh well.

No real talk about Dad passing other than what it means to her. She aggressively insists that she wants to live in either his home or the 2nd place in NYC.

How close where they?………he sold the one in NYC over two years ago.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

  82. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

What a crazy, bizarre finish to the game last night. Steelers had 3 TO’s, and the Bengals had the ball in FG range at the 26. How do you fumble there? I almost feel like they should have taken a knee 3 times, exhausted the Steelers TO’s, and then with less than a minute, you kick a FG, take a 4 point lead, and then make the Steelers drive for a TD with about 50 seconds. Those penalties were crazy too. The hit on Brown 100% merited a flag. It couldn’t have been more deserving. The ball was gone at that point, and that was a dangerous cheap shot. The Adam Jones hitting Porter, why was Porter on the field, and why isn’t that a penalty on the Steelers? Whatevs, the Bengals deserved it.

  83. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I see all these articles on Opie “fixing” Tannehill and I find the ridiculous. “Did you see what he did with Jay Cutler? He turned him around in one year.” Ahem…bull fucking shit. Opie had shown NO, none, nada ability to improve quarterback play. What improved with Cutler? His percentange wend down from 66% TO 64% his yards per game went down, his TD’s went down, his yds per play went down, etc, His only “improvement” was his interceptions went down. Bid deal. Tannehill really didn’t have a problem with interceptions per se. Opie worked with Manning for two years before that. I guess he is responsible for the great QB play there as well……..

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

That’s not really fair and doesn’t tell the whole story either. Cutler’s average per pass went up, ints down, sacks down, and fumbles down. Is this all because of Gase? Im sure it isn’t but Cutler seemed to think he helped and Cutler knows more than us. Peyton did have his best years under Gase. That’s just a fact. He helped Tebow too. Our level of knowledge and research is paltry compared to what Tannenbaum did.

Mando said that Philbin did not support Tannehill. So, if Gase does nothing else but give Tannehill a better support system, some pointers, and more attention(definitely since he’s the playcaller), I think Tannehill already is in a better place.

  84. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That’s unfortunate. I found out 1st hand when my mom passed how ugly family can get. I really do love my sister, but what she and my aunt did when my mom passed was inexcusable. They had decided to get into my mom’s house while i was at work on a Saturday, and start dividing up almost everything. It was so ugly, and frustrating. How dare they do that! I was angry about it, and it still bothers me, but it’s not something I was going to let divide the family over, but it was inappropriate and selfish.

Jon – Sounds like she deserves nothing, or at least the bare minimum, make sure that’s how it turns out.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I wonder if you being named executor had something to do with it. My mom made my wife the executor. Maybe that’s it. Ouch on the bar set low. You’re a good man Jon, you are a Golden Child.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Executor or not…..they knew I would be in control of whatever happens after he passed. And you’d have to know my bro and sis on the “Ouch.” If the family hadn’t supported them they’d be asking for your change in the street.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

just sour grapes wyoming. he was the one candidate I was dead set against. IMO he has done nothing to inspire hope or show he has even a modicum of ability as a HC.

“His” offense last year was 21st in yards, 23rd in points, 11th in rushing yards and 23rd in passing yards. WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!

His greatest claim to “fame” was working with Tebow to bring him to a playoff game. (Tebow was still an AWFUL quarterback) and “fixing” Cutler…..(had 8 less ints this year than the year before, but pretty much everything else didn’t see much improvement)

I don’t think he will be the answer here. I hope I’m wrong.

  86. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I’m sorry to hear that about your half sister. It really is awful but seems to happen so often in these type situations. In my own family, my grandfather left the family when my dad was 13. (in 1946) and my dad who was the oldest dropped out of school and got a job to support his mom and 4 brothers and 1 sister. He became head of the household at 14 and put all 5 of his siblings through college. (never having the opportunity to finish school himself until his 40’s & 50’s while raising 7 of his own.) Well, he reconciled with his dad back in the 80’s and kept in touch with him. His siblings found out and all disowned him for it and wouldn’t talk to him because he was a ‘traitor to the family for forgiving his father and moving on. Grand Dad died with a little over 2 million in the bank. His brothers got together and hired a lawyer to take the inheritance and screw my dad.

They all got screwed though because Pops had a living will with his common law girlfriend of 20 years that had “right of survival” so something like that, basically the money all went to his girlfriend until she died a few years later and then some distant “family member’ of hers from Italy swooped in before any of our family heard she had passed and took the money. (the best part, or worst part, whichever was his girlfriend was a war orphan from WW2 and had NO family.

I cannot give you advise on how to handle your half sister but I am not surprised at all by her attitude. ME first.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Rock — that the money didn’t go to your family at all is unfortunate, but sound like your Pops new who it should go to.

In my case my Dad set things up rock solid. He made the major things and left the details in stone and left the rest of the details to me, which is why I got a call from my sister for the first time in a very long while (had tried before every so often but never got an answer).

Gase needs to fix the entire team and put in place an offense that makes sense. We have talent on offense, we need to utilize it and not fuck around with dumbass play calling.

you mean like you already calling him opie and throwing him under the bus. listen, i have every faith that the miami dolphins will still be a fucked up organization but at least i will wait and see and not toss out a guy on the job for two days.

Watching the game last night albeit the bengals imploded
I think at some level the real story is how bad and one sided the officiating was
And the tv booth was horrible about amazing it

That shazier hit on Bernard was all helmet to helme and should have given the bengals a 15 yard penalty
Instead everyone was consumed with the defenseless receiver rule
I don’t know who the guy they call in to explain the rules are mid game – but he is an idiot
And so are Simms and Nantz

I was screaming at my tv (and I don’t care who wins) who cares if he was a defensless receiver
You can’t use the crown of your helmet to hit the other guy

What a horrible call by the officials and the tv booth in discussing it as well
    It went over their head
Why do you have an expert former official in call if he sucks

I was actually embarrassed for the broadcast

Then the officiating got worse after the burfict hit
Joey porter and asst coach ran in the field and broke about a half dozen rules in doing so – but no flag

But pac man jones gets penalized

If they would have called a penalty on porter
The steelers go back to where they started before he burfict personal foul and the game continues without that kind of contraversy

Instead they call something in the bengals and double the penalty yardage

The personal foul in burfict was in the money

But missing every the steelers did is an atrocity

    It’s shameful
How can the game be officiated in such a one sided manner

I’m really not impressed with the NFL

pretty much how i felt after last night game. the officiating this year has been horrendous at best. in both college and pro. with the rules getting more subject to the refs opinion it just isnt getting fun to watch when the refs can so easily effect the outcome of a game. like they did last night.

When my dad passed he was definately ready as well
And I knew it was coming

In fact my dad even waited for me to be visiting for the weekend to die
My mom likes to say he knew I would be responsible to handle all the funeral arrangements and bs and therefore let go when I was visiting

I like to say “arghhhhhh why do I always get stuck with this stuff ”

I know it’s sad to lose a parent
And I miss my dad all the time
I wonder what he would do when I’m confronted with a problem
It’s part of my problem solving process

But knowing some one was ready is worth a lot
Now is a good time to focus on the positive things

Thanks my Pig — My Dad’s voice is my mind all the time. I like to say I was both “loved and forged” by him. To put that in perspective I was talking to his secretary of like 28 years a few days ago and when something cam up said, “I got some of Mom in me to.” She immediately replied “Thank God.” And yeah we both love him.
