Welcome to the Dolphins, now where are you going to play?

dolphins_flag

What a draft, what an off season! The Dolphins finally flipped the script and used the Free Agency period to fill glaring holes rather than try to make a splash. They drafted players to fit a system being installed rather than drafting good talent but not necessarily a scheme fit as we saw so many times in the past. Actually this is the third straight very good draft which is unusual for the Dolphins. Coach Gase is a modern day offensive minded coach which means he is going to pass the ball, likely, more than he’ll run it. In comes the best offensive lineman in the draft followed by a bunch of potential play makers who will fit in nicely with the play makers already on the team. The aggressive Defense to be installed needs a strong and aggressive defensive line to get to opposing quarterbacks quickly so that cover corners aren’t left to cover one on one for five seconds. In comes an aggressive sacker in Mario Williams and veteran Andre Branch. Then of course the addition of bigger corners such as Maxwell who came via trade and the young Xavien Howard from the draft. However an argument can be made for almost every player picked up as to where they will play.

Let’s start with the Defense. The significant players added were :

Mario Williams 3tktpgf– DE – Williams has flexibility across the D-line particularly at both DE positions. So will he play RDE or LDE, will he start on the left and move to the right to bring Wake in to rush the passer, perhaps he plays mainly on the right and doesn’t switch around much at all.

Andre Branch – DE – Same situation with Branch as with Mario, is Branch an early down run-stopper who gives way to Wake and Williams on passing downs?usa-today-9012487-0

Byron Maxell – CB – Expected to be the number one Corner but Byron is a player with flexibility as well, should  one of the other CB’s stand out maybe Maxwell gets moved around situationally.

Kiko Alonso – LB – Middle Linebacker right? Probably and most likely but there is the chance he plays outside although less likely now than before the draft when EVERYONE thought we’d draft a  Linebacker maybe even a MLB.

Isa Abdul-Quddus – S – OK he’s a Safety, but is he a starter or a role player and ST ace?

Xavien Howard – CB – Will the rookie show enough to earjsheltonxavienhowardgoodyearcottonmlzkjorpspwlrn the spot opposite Maxwell? If not what sort of role will he play? Back-up, Nickel, let’s hope the rookie takes care of business.

Chris Jones – DT  – A productive run stopper who comes to a crowded position. Suh will play the majority of snaps so Jones will battle for time with the veteran Earl Mitchell and last year’s second round pick, Jordan Phillips among a host of others. Can Jones take some snaps at DE potentially?

Jordan Lucas – DB – Listed as simply DB on the teams official roster they don’t even know if he’s a Safety or a CB. Best of luck to this rookie we can only hope that he is a player that will make his presence known.

The significant players added to the offense:

Brandon Doughty – QB – LOL, jbb

Laremy Tunsil – T – The best Olineman in the draft (we can say that because we drafted him) but will he start his career as a Guard or move a vet off of one of the Tackle spots?

790f93561c3f3284Kenyan Drake – RB – Is this guy an every down back? Likely not going to be asked to be but does he become a third down back or does he split carries with Ajayi? Will he be a kick returner and supplant Jarvis Landry from that role?

Leonte Carroo -WR – What the heck is this guy going to do? Does he go in the slot and allow Jarvis to work more on the outside? Does he push for time as a starter and play on the edge. This is a good looking rookie and with Jarvis here it will be hard for him to have the similar impact Jarvis had but there should be ample opportunity for this rookie to turn some heads.

Jakeem Grant
– WR – Good things come in small packages, possibly the most exciting new player to the team. Already naming rights wars have begun. Speed, elusiveness, quickness, incredible poar-151109495wer and a spirited drive that may prove to be a huge force in this team clearing the hurdle of nobody to contender. We see 5’6 and 170 pounds, Jakeem sees himself as one of the biggest strongest guys on the field. You gonna tell him he isn’t? I didn’t think so. But what will he do? Slot, Hback, returner, deep threat. Who cares just get in the endzone grANTman ©.

Griff Whalen – WR –  Up until the draft this FA pick up looked like a 4th or 5th receiver who came to the team with experience and knowledge of OC Christenson’s offense but he may have been out talented as the draft results came in. It will be a tough battle for a spot as a 6th now.bushrod_inside052514

Jermon Bushrod – T – FA acquisition who has only played as a Tackle but this vet may be able to win a starting position as a Guard. Or is he here as insurance only for the T position?

Sam Young – T – Same as Bushrod, but Young would appear to be the one who is in fact a mere T backup. He does however add needed depth and keeps Fox and Columbo out of football.

Thomas Duarte – TE – Now I think everyone has to temper expectations with this kid due to size and the uphill battle any 7th rounder faces as he enters the league but did you see his highlight clips? Dude can run and catch the ball and he makes people miss. He shows a lot of promise thus far.

The Defensive additions are made up of mostly veterans with Williams as the biggest name acquisition but even he came from a team that had just cut him so we didn’t splurge hugely for even him even though he pocketed a handsome sum. The thinking for the defense was to add vet’s who could come in and lock down positions and make the D functional and hopefully better than last season.

The Offense got an infusion of spices from a variety of angles but mostly with drafted playmakers. The offensive line might not be so offensive anymore with the additions made with Tunsil, Bushrod and Young to go along with Turner and Douglas who show promise. Drake and Ajayi make for a very young but talented 1-2 punch in the back5d0b29be76554a6b80ed1b7088a974ba-fc32dc17e8b34938a224936aa6c36752-0field while Carroo and Grant add to the arsenal that already includes Jarvis Landry and the emerging Devante Parker.

The scouting is done, the picks are in now everything gets handed to a shiny new rookie Head Coach. Coach and his staff will have to make the tough decisions about who plays where and stays or goes. All we can say as long suffering Dolphin fans is that we hope the plan works, fits the players and that the players play their ass off in it. Due to results of the last many seasons production of koolaid has been halted until there is a bonafide reason to do so. Not that you can’t have your own private still but sanctioned koolaid production has been halted for the benefit of all involved.

Congratulations to Jarvis Landry for being recognized by his peers as one of the top 100 players in the league. Welcome to the top kid and it seems like you’ll continue to climb every year.

Enjoy!

Let’s have a large turnout for the annual Fest, vote up above – see you there!

The best thing happening to this team is change – restructured management, new coaches, different approaches and a lot of new personnel. This team was not good last year. It could not remain the same. I see plenty of potential. Will they become a tough team that competes at all times? Is it better? We’ll find out. I personally have no idea.

  3. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I also like that Xavien Howard admits he has flaws in his game that he needs to work on. But the skill is there. He is a big, physical ballhawk.

Ryan Tannehill should place a garbage can on the 10 yard line between the numbers and the sideline, then stand on his own 35 yd line then take a snap and count to 2 then throw 15 straight balls into the can.
Then we he does that put the garbage can on the other side of the field and do that too.

One of your guys will be under it (like a certain guy that is the size of the garbage can), Parker can fly as well.

… Then move the can to the 35 and there’s your wheel route, just sayin’…

If you’re saying that Tannehill needs to learn how to drop a ball onto a receiver, he does. He needs to learn that touch rainbow pass.

Tannehill needs chemistry. It’s changed three times now. Has it ever been from coaching, OL and skill level? If you just saw QB play being the reason you weren’t watching. LOL

Go watch it, he’s under pressure like 80% of the time. It’s nuts!

Titans signed TE Delanie Walker to a two-year, $14.7 million extension.
The deal includes $8.2 million guaranteed. Walker was set to make $4.28 million in the final year of his contract. His new deal locks him up through 2019 (his age-35 season). Walker is coming off career highs in catches (94) and yards (1,088) in his first season with Marcus Mariota. He’ll return as the top option in Tennessee’s offense, but could take a step back with the additions of Rishard Matthews and DeMarco Murray

What’s weird is he was never any good the first 7 years of his career in SF.
    Now he’s a stud for 3 yrs in Tenn. Oh & he’s just 6’0, but 248.
Just goes to show you how system & coaching is everything for a large amount of players, not all players, but for many.

This gives us hope if we finally hit on the right coach & systems….Go Gase & Co.!!!

exactly what I’ve been preaching. you don’t just draft a guy to fill holes on your team. you take the best talent you can.

Sorry to hear about the car mishap. Hopefully they have one of those new devices they use to get into cars these days. My brother in law is a locksmith, and they have this flat inflatable bladder that goes in between the door and the window, and then they inflate it, and it gives them space to get in without damaging anything.

  21. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Wyo

Carroo lacks no confidence, that’s for sure. I like it! He looks like he works hard at being the best he can be, so as long as he keeps that up, it’s all good with me.

  22. I think after seeing Carroo in his presser people can stop with the “thug” narrative. He’s not a bad kid. As a matter of fact, after hearing him speak and LISTENING to what he said you can see he’s a very grounded person.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Absolutely. He speaks more eloquently than I do.

      • Well, it was kind of stupid on the part of those who said he was bad news due to the fact he only had the one off field issue and witnesses said he wasn’t the aggressor and the charges were dropped. There were people who were judging him without knowing shit about what happened. Totally unfair.

      • I came away very impressed with this draft class. Howard seemed a bit off but when I saw Carroo, Drake, Doughty and Grant up there I was extremely impressed with these guys.

  23. You can take Grant out of his presser and insert Kevin Hart and the results are probably pretty close to the same. LOL

  24. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Most of the guys in their presses seemed to speak very well, and then there was Howard. Oh well I hope they didn’t make a mistake with him. Pressure will go a long ways toward helping out our DBs.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

He didn’t come across especially bright, but hopefully, he’s football smart.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m not sure I care about CBs that are well spoken though, because they’re all about skill set, nothing else really matters.

  25. Now you can’t talk about Doughty without people saying you’re trashing Tannehill. I can’t talk about how much I like the kid, his personality and what I think he brings to the table with his skill set because Tannehill people look at it as trashing Tannehill. WTF?!!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I found that out yesterday, I don’t get it either.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Relax Lou – You know people are sensitive about Tannehill. You can talk about Doughty. If Doughty can be a great QB for us, that’s a nice problem to have.

  26. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Id almost rather my CBs not be very smart. It’s an instinctive position so if he’s thinking it too much, he’s probably been beat. As long as he can cover a WR without getting calls against him, Im all good with him.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

A lot of those “instincts” come from game preparation, watching film, and understanding where you’re supposed to be, and where the receiver may be going. If you don’t do those things well, or grasp those concepts, that’s a problem.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

True, but at the end of the day you can cover or not in man on man coverage. You can’t take a guy that is more smart and studies the film as an alternative to having the skillset at CB. In other words Zach Thomas types can’t cut it there.

  27. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

There’s nothing like small town life. Last night, my sister posted on facebook that my daughter had locked the keys in her car and someone was here in 10 minutes and popped it open in about a minute. Refused to let me pay him anything. 🙂

That’s the other thing about it being a small town…he would only do it for good, not evil!

    • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

That’s how the world is supposed to work!

    • ya know, the funny thing about Facebook is people are so concerned about the government violating their privacy and watching everything they do and the government doesn’t have to do shit to get information they want because people are more than happy to post every little detail on Facebook.

  28. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I was being facetious about Tannehill because we’ve been through the Tannehill discussion so many times and everyone says outrageous things in that discussion. LOL

    • People on Twitter get their panties in a bunch. Not even saying a word about Tannehill; just talking Doughty and all of a sudden it’s “Tannehill talk”.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Oh, well Doughty does have a ways to go but I’m rooting for him to be good because that makes the team better.

      • there’s no doubt he’s got work to do but if you REALLY watch the kid and see what he did over the past two years there’s no doubting his skill set and you can’t but be impressed with what he has accomplished. some may think he doesn’t have an NFL arm but I’ve seen him put the zip on the ball when it was necessary. I think the thing is he doesn’t throw every ball with that zip because he doesn’t need to. There’s no doubting he’s got tremendous accuracy and he’s got a very quick release and great pocket presence. So, they’ve got a lot to work with where he’s concerned. He’s not a finished project yet but they have a good place to start from. IMO Moore’s days are numbered, without a Doughty.

  29. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Howard isn’t overly articulate but he said the right things.

  30. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Lou:
Gil Brandt on NFL radio said Miami will have “build a fence around” Caroo to keep him from getting in trouble in South Beach. Say what you will about Brandt’s analysis about talent but he does his homework on these guys and has a pretty good take on them

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Those pundits tend to go a little overboard even when a guy had an incident and was exonerated.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

He’s just going by the stereotype, several on here have said the same about other players with issues. I think Sobe is overrated, as a can’t stay away place. I used to go to the beach there in high school, was kind of the white kids beach from HS, because it was straight east.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Brandt is not. He runs BLESTO, he organizes the combine, he meets these kids and has done his homework on them

    • He’s wrong. Carroo had the one incident and that was it. He has no off field issues. Brandt is jumping the gun on this and I think the Phins head of security is the guy we need to put our faith in and not Brandt. I would think he would have investigated Carroo thoroughly before the draft to make sure he was “clean”. That matters a lot more than was some “analyst” has to say.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Brandt is not really an analyst – he is a scout and that is what he does. He scouts their talent and their background

  31. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

RT gets the benefit of the doubt, because he’s the guy you want to be the guy, makes all the throws, and is mobile.

  32. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I like RT a lot but I also like pick of Doughty. I think it is always a good idea to draft and develop QBs even if you have a true number 1 starter already

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Everyone on here seems to have that same opinion. I also like the fact that he’s got a chance to make as a starter some day, and the cap hit from a 7th is great.

  33. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Ken

I love Gil Brandt, but he’s a little past it. Still, I think he has a shit ton of football knowledge.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

These guys like Brandt I think are out of their element when talking character issues. Give me almost any under 35 former players opinion and I’d value it more.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m sure at one time, Brandt was right there with his character evals, but that may have been about 20 years ago

  34. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Son: “keeps Fox and Colombo out of football”… ROTFLMAO … that line alone was some good therapy for all those games Colombo was a revolving door on the right side. good stuff.

  35. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Son, one more response… regarding what to do with Carroo: here’s his answer…

“There were, I think, nine receivers that were drafted ahead of me,” Carroo said. “(With) what I accomplished in college, I felt like I was the best receiver in this draft class.”

  36. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Ken, regarding Carroo… we can also hope for some good old fashion ‘growing up’ to take place. That’s where teammates matter. i.e. in the LONG MLB season, veterans routinely are telling younger players that they can’t be drinking every night cuz they have ‘work’ the next day.
My question is whether or not we have guys in the locker room who will set that tone for the young guys with their ‘new’ money.

  37. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We’ll see if Carroo is a problem guy from here on out. All I know is he can play and do a lot f things on a field – makes catches in traffic, down the field, he’ll fight for contested balls. He’s a weapon for sure.

  38. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Sometimes guys like Brandt are just making a joke and it doesn’t always translate that way.

  39. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Ken, okay you meant why he fell to the 3rd.

  41. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Don’t get me wrong I think Caroo is a very talented WR and if his head is on straight he can have an impact on the field.

  42. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Herd and Wyo.. here’s my story related to Herd’s daughter:
I was visiting my family Santa Barbara/Santa Maria from my home in Texas. Rental car stalled on highway. I sat there for nearly an hour. Finally a guy stopped. Said it was the battery. Offered to take the battery to a nearby location to have it charged up. He took the battery while I waited at the car with the family. 20 minutes later I realized “oh shit, I just got ripped off”. Called my brother (an hour away) to drive down and get us. Before my brother arrived, the “thief” returned with the battery charged, hooked it up, and refused any money repayment. Turns out he was from San Antonio and was also visiting family. 🙂 Made me kinda proud of where I was living. 🙂 I think of that when I see people who might need help, but the Frasier episode of “The Good Samaritan” flashes. lol

  44. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Mike, how would you have felt, if we had traded up to 10 and gotten Tunsil for next year’s 3 and 4?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m not a big fan of trading away future picks, as much I’d love to have Tunsil. I think we still had a good shot at a player that would help us at #13, but it was a beautiful thing that Tunsil fell in our lap.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If we had taken Shaq Lawson, or William Jackson III, I would have been fine with that.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The key to that trade is not just Carroo panning out but this draft class being a real good one. Than it makes the trades more reasonable because we improved the team in a lot of ways.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Ok what’s your price? 2012 we trade up to get Luck, for?

  45. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

I’m also hoping Jakeem Grant electrifies our kick game so Landry doesn’t need to expend that extra energy and injury risk. We’ll see in the preseason if HIS speed (from the highlight reel) translates to NFL level of speed all over the field. If it does, we just might be set up for some ‘basketball scores’ in Fins games this year. lol

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Grant, Drake and Carroo will all be in the mix in the return game.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It’s not only his speed, the kid makes some sick cuts, it’s fun to watch. I do fear him getting knocked into tomorrow though.

  46. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

getterdone, Lester Hayes was one of the original “Baaaaad Maaan”. In modern game he might have been banned by the end of preseason. lol

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Yup, that’s what VJ seems to want, plus everyone was talking about Howard not sounding that bright, & someone mentioned who cares as long as he can read & react…so Lester Hayes came to my mind….many thought he was dumb due to his stuttering problem….but his 13 INT’s in one season put to rest if he was good or not…, that & 5 pro bowls, 2 super bowls, & a DPOY award in 1980.

  47. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Tim, if Grant does what he was probably drafted in hopes of doing… will Drake and Carroo still be in the mix…. or are they in the mix for the job?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You always want to have multiple guys who can return kicks and punts. I’m sure they’d love to have Grant be the guy because of his dynamic speed and running ability.

Drake excels on coverage teams as well.

  48. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, the only guy I’ve seen do that sort of cutting was Barry Sanders. Maybe Warrick Dunn too. But it’s how fast he regains top speed off of those cuts that are mind boggling.

The way these smaller guys survive is they make themselves an even smaller target to hone in on. Like Grant sad, I’ve been hit by big guys plenty and I bounce right back up. He’s solidly built just really short.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

No doubt Tim, but you know every now and again, a guy that outweighs him by 60-80 lbs is going to get a clean shot at him, and he’s going to go flying. I just hope he does bounce right back up.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If he gets touches as a RB sure but as a WR not so much. As a return man possibly but he makes it hard for people to square him up.

  49. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Steve

I was thrilled we actually drafted Tannehill, I was pretty surprised actually. I see what you’re trying to accomplish, and I suppose there’s always a right time and place to make a trade to get the player you really want, but if I’m going to be fair, I don’t think we’re just one player away on our team Steve, I think we still needed some upgrades on defense, a real impact LB and a young pass rushing DE. Of course if Alonso comes out this year and plays like he did his rookie season, and Misi is healthy all year long, and gives us some average to above average play at SLB, and Jenkins can do the same at WLB, then maybe the team will prove me wrong.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

You’ve been saying for years how bad the OL is, but you still don’t want to give up a draft pick, for someone that might make it one of the best in the league? I don’t get that logic. You’ve got as close to a sure thing as there is and you won’t pull the trigger on the trade, because of a future 3 or 4 that doesn’t have more than a 30% chance of being an impact player?

  50. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Ironic how we’ve been trying to replace Moore’s high cap hit for years, now we get him at a low hit, and may have a replacement.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Doesn’t really matter to me….we needed to move on from Moore & kinda tried to this offseason.
Glad the guy I had pegged came home to Davie & can walk across the street to work…lol

      Go Doughty!

  51. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Regarding Son’s article for our defensive FA’s. As we discuss the “pieces” of our defense, it doesn’t seem like we have too many 3-down guys. If we have mostly ‘situation’ guys, Brady (and other’s with on-field OC’s) simply go no huddle when we have the ‘wrong’ personnel on the field. Too bad Jaylon Smith got hurt… I don’t think we’d have traded with Eagles if we had a shot at him (healthy).

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You counter that with the right personnel on the field to begin with. They can’t substitute either if they do that.

  52. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

GOT A HUGE KICK out of Herd and Rhino’s Good Samaritan stories. John Wooden used to start his UCLA basketball practices by asking his players “Have any of you helped someone today? –I’d like to hear the stories.” Once heard Bill Walton describe this as tears welled up in his eyes.

BRIAN IN NY; I’ve been VERY IMPRESSED with the Islanders in their two series against Florida teams. They beat a favored Panthers team and have been oh-so-close in their series vs. the Lightning. Right now, 2 overtime losses are the difference in this series. Particularly am impressed with Tavares, who I now believe is one of the 5-10 best players in the league. ALSO I am impressed with the Lightning’s ability to move ahead without top scorer and team captain Stamkos, who will be a free agent at the end of the playoffs.

  54. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Tim, so that means we have to “out coach them”? 🙂 and 😦 (yikes)

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

What they do is you have a defensive coach who has a list of #s on a sheet that represents the opponent’s personnel. They then count them as they go onto the field and that coach calls it in and we call our personnel package not individually but as a group. Our players know who’s in that sub-package and they hit the field to counter it.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s only 5 skill players we’re worried about – how many TEs, WRs and RBs. We already know it will be 5 OL and a QB. We have to figure out which 7 we put out there in the back end. We’re going 4 man DL most of the time regardless. Sometimes 3.

  55. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

CURRENT ISSUE of the Finsider has a front page article entitled “Mr. Ross, It’s Time to Properly Honor the Greatest Coach in NFL History!” It’s about naming the home field of the Dolphins “DON SHULA STADIUM!” Hope all of you have a chance to read it.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

There might be a happy medium in there. They could name it say say Don Shula SunTrust Stadium.

Bet they’d get the same in naming rights just for whichever company to have their name attached to the great one.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The address of the stadium is already 347 Don Shula Drive. The 347 is for his total wins as a HC.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Big difference between address and what’s on the stadium and talked about on TV though. That’s why businesses pay millions to get it.

  56. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Tunsil, Grant, Lucas and Doughty are all signed. 4 to go.

  57. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Stanger, I was just pointing out that there is already a homage to Shula on stadium grounds. I don’t really care what the stadium is called. If they call it Don Shula Stadium that would be great. But it’s not that important to me because Shula is already a big name in franchise history, everyone knows that.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

And I completely understand why they would want to get money out of the name. Was just point out something that might make both Ross and OD happy.

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

Hell, the guy has expressways and different roads in Miami Lakes named after him plus the restaurants and golf courses. He is already getting care of by Ross by having him on the chairman’s board. He never paid a penny into the franchise yet he is getting paid for nothing. Naming rights is money out of somebodies pocket.I think Mr.Ross has more than been generous.

  58. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Wish Jakeem Grant had returned punts in college. Yes he is an awesome kick returner, but the value of that is less since they moved up the spot of the kickoff.

Might have been that since he was a starting wideout they didn’t want to throw that on him too.

Darn sure if I was Gase that Grant would be fielding a lot of punts in camp though. And he wouldn’t have to be the “hands guy” on the close in ones could just bust him out when the other team is kicking out from deep in their own end.

YOUNG STANGER: Thanks for trying to find something “that will make both Ross and OD happy.”– One of the two guys I talked to yesterday who are employees of the franchise told me, and I quote, “the concept of naming the stadium after coach Shula is definitely gaining momentum.” Of course, this does NOT mean it will happen. But Ross, who often tries to curry favorable PR, would receive a ton of it should he proceed on this course of action. I don’t know a SINGLE SEASON TICKET HOLDER who is opposed to this.

I think we could have gotten an OG in the 2nd or 3rd RD, so yeah, I would have been OK without getting Tunsil, who I never expected to even have a shot at. There are ways of acquiring good talent w/o trading every damn time you pick. I swear it can be done, we just need to prove it to the ridiculously trade happy Mr. T that it can be done. You can build your depth every year by drafting well, and using all your picks. Other teams do it, we can too.
