The yahoo article says ratings of Thursday Night Football are up by 7%

    That’s not hurting
    ———-
I believe it’s up 7% from last week, which was down 15% from last year.
    _______________________________________________________________

so if this is the case with the current salary cap at 167m wouldn’t it stand to reason that the cap would regress from 167m down to 141m, – 15% for 2018?

can you imagine the repercussions of this? those teams with guaranteed contracts would be in deep doo-doo

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Is there that tight of a one-to-one correspondence between ratings and salary cap?

It would seem to me that the TV contract is set for however many years, during which, there will always be slight fluctuations of the ratings based on dozens of factors. The cap is probably set in some semi-secret, non-public committee, so the owners can budget ahead of time, and so the players’ agents can’t use a specific number in contract negotiations.

Surely there is some wiggle room built in. I doubt seriously that owners would go into a season thinking OMG we need to max out TV ratings or we will go bankrupt in one year.

    Has Krishna checked in?

I believe the offensive side of the ball’s troubles are the QB and the rest of the offense are having trouble coalescing, let’s hope that in the midst of the games played this team has became better as a unit and are ready to show improvement today.

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

good point. I actually think so.

I think the various upsetting factors did delay the gelling of the offense. Not making any excuses, but come on. Not since the Saints and Katrina has there been such a non-football disruption. Plus all the other shit like losing your starting QB, your OL coach, and the OG you thought would plug that hole.

Imagine Green Bay’s record without Rodgers or look at the Raiders without Carr. Look at Eli with a trash OL.

  9. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    ORob

That’s a good point about the cap. But just for clarity keep in mind that the yahoo article only mentions Thursday night football and not everything.

I believe that ratings are generally down in 17
And I know they were down in 16 as compared to 15

so those numbers only present part of the story

However I actually think the salary cap increases are not so dependent on those numbers
The reality is they vote every year on increases
So they can vote to keep cap increases down in the future if the trend continues

But they will look at entire revenue when it’s said and done

A lot of people hate thrusday night football
    I think it’s overkill
But the reality is – it increases revenue substantially to add an entire new day of revenue to the tv market

So if ratings go down in general but Thursday night football becomes a staple and revenues increase on that one day – I think it offsets the ratings decrease in a substantially favorable way for the NFL

Because there was no market at all on Thursday
They really just tapped a new pool for $ and it’s working

I guess owners will say to themselves “can we make more $”
But I don’t think the nfls current state is anywhere near dire

I also think when it comes to player’s behavior all these issues concerning $ are way to attenuated for the vast majority of the players who are currently playing to be affected directly.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

From what i read The sponsors feel they’re not getting their monies worth advertising NFL games, Their cost is ratings based. are the contracts between the Networks and Sponsors tied to ratings?? I would think so.
with a 9 billion dollar a year company which most of that revenue is paid by the networks If the networks are losing due to a diminished audience there has to be a trickle down effect IMO. so who eats the difference?

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

there might be a trickle down effec. Time will tell

But I don’t think individual players on 4-5 year contracts will be affected directly in most cases.

I think the loss of ratings is tied to a lot of things the NFL that they might consider changing Like I said it happened in 2016 too.

        It’s game time
So we can continue this convo some other time

        Go Dolphins !!!

  10. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

So on my way back from the gym (in queen, ny)
I saw a guy with a Dolphins shirt at Starbucks
I immediately struck up a conversation
And it turns out he was from the same small town (Cooper city) in so Florida where I am from

That hasn’t to be good luck right?

Then on the walk home I stopped by a sports bar (remember I’m not going to slatterys today)
I asked the bartender if they played all the games (I’m not wearing Dolphins gear at this time keep in mind)
And she says “we try to. We always play the jets 😒And the giants but if there are no Dolphins plays, for example, we won’t play that game”.

I laughed and said “that’s the game I want”
And she said – “oh then we will play that game!”

This all happened in a span of 10 minutes or so in my neighborhood

    Isn’t that odd

    I think it’s good luck

I figure in this game…..time to unleash Grant.
    ———————
Sorry but I don’t share the Grant love around here. I think he is not sure handed enough as a returner and lacks the necessary size and hands to be a WR. I just think it says a lot that Carroo can’t beat him out

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Tedd Ginn once won a game against the Jets that should have lost. Not saying he is the future answer, but today might just be the day for that kinda thing.

  13. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

DeVante Parker is inactive for today’s game at Atlanta. The rest of the inactives are safety Maurice Smith, cornerbacks Torry McTyer and Byron Maxwell, linebacker Stephone Anthony, guard Isaac Asiata and offensive tackle Sam Young.

    Let’s go D

  31. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

22 yards from Ajayi on the 1st drive and the passing offense cannot match it

    That stuff really hurts us

  32. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I need to point out that other than Julius Thomas, who defenses don’t seem to respect, our receivers aren’t getting any separation. That has to change

  33. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That’s unacceptable. Can’t let them pick that up

  34. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Ryan will eat this defense alive if our offense can’t sustain a drive

  35. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    We can’t convert a 3rd down and we can’t stop a 3rd down conversion

  36. Ken's avatar Ken says:

  46. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

WR dropping lots of balls still,, Landry not his usual carch machine this year

  47. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Anthony is a backup OLB behind Alonso and Timmons. He’s also known to not play STs. Can’t be active if that’s the case.

  48. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

  73. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    That is fucking ridiculous

  74. rgs322's avatar rgs322 says:

  82. Ken's avatar Ken says:

No need to hurry Cutler we are only 3 scores down

  83. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Our offence is performing like my Dzone streaming service.. clear fir a bit , then buffers stalls and goes black

  84. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The offense’s goal is to keep the Falcons from going up by 24 now

    That’s how bad it is

  86. Ken's avatar Ken says:
