Week 13 – Game 12 – Dolphins vs Broncos

Miami-Dolphins-vs-Denver-Broncos-NFL-Matchup-jpg_687226_ver1.0_1280_720

SO, our disappointing season continues as we host the hapless Denver Broncos, who oddly enough, are in worse shape than our Dolphins at 3-8.  This game is meaningless for us the fans, but to players, the games still matter, because they get paid, and they have a job to do, and for some, they are looking to make a positive impression on the coaches to earn a spot on the roster.  In the big picture, it would probably be better for us to lose out, and finish the season 4-12, and end up with a top 5 pick, but Coach Gase and probably the majority of the players don’t want to see that.

I’m not even sure what to expect from our team this week.  Denver is hurting in the secondary with the 1 game suspension of Aqib Talib, so one might think Devante Parker should feast.  The reality is, even with Jay Cutler at QB, who loves Parker, they just can’t seem to have a big game together.  His best game this season was probably game 1 against the Chargers where he caught 4 passes for 85 yards, but he scored his ONLY TD in Week 2 in the final second of a 20-6 loss against the Jets.  Remember before the season all the talk about what a great year Parker is going to have, he was tearing it up in training camp, practice and even the preseason?  BLAH BLAH BLAH, he’s completely underperformed again, along with the rest of the team.  Broken record.

Some here will be rooting for a loss, some for a win, and others don’t even care anymore and won’t bother to watch.  I’ll watch, I have to, but if it wasn’t for FF, I might find other things to do on Sundays at this point.  I think when I sit down to watch, I just hope I can see something that gives me hope that we can be a good team.  Show me some good play in all phases and beat the Broncos 34-3.  I’d rather lose than have us win a slopfest 13-10 or something, and I really mean that.  That win, to me at least is meaningless.  If we’re going to win, at least give us something to watch.

Parker has to make that catch

This offense just can’t get into a rhythm early on in games. It’s crazy! The defense sets them up over and over and they do nothing with it.

This season is not a good one to use stats and philosophies for our team. But last year we passed 29.8 times PG and rushed 25.3 PG. Not a 40-15 split.

It seems to me the perfect time, we went 10-6 last year with a balanced attack, look how we’ve done with an un-balanced one this year.

  33. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Holy shit! I went outside to do something and said okay how about a Howard or Tank INT they are due, and when I came back in I saw the extra pt and replay. 🙂

  34. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

This is looking like Howards best game yet. Have nit been impressed with him this year until today

  35. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Howard has played well all year. Everyone focuses on his bad moments. You can do that with every player on this team. He also deflected the pass to prevent a 1st down and held them to a FG. He’s a young corner learning the NFL game. But he competes, hits and tackles. So does Tank who had a rep for not tackling, he’s been the opposite for us. LOL

  36. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

That’s the Cutler we know and love

  40. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Tim:
Howard is the lowest rated cb in the NFL. He has played horribly this season

  41. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Rob, how you liking the running game?

  42. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Drake already has 13 carries
If we keep this lead he may have 30+ today

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Gase is defying Rob’s concerns which is a good thing. Things chance when the game is a one possession game or you have a lead.

This team has not quit so let’s end that shit right now.

  43. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It’s not like any of these cbs are going to be shutdown types

The Dolphins like them bc they are tall
But the problem is we are not using them that way. We keep playing zone – WTF

The personel in out secondary is fine IMO
I don’t expect a lot of changes – unless the Dolphins decide they want to change their defensive scheme significantly

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

No such thing as a shutdown corner. The league won’t allow it. That comes from special players, not a position. The corners are not why we’re 4-7. LOL

    • D's avatar D says:

We I think are looking for press zone CBs, but they seem to run more pure zone and I rarely see them in press and then falling back to zone like they would if they were doing press zone. You see them in press man and off man about as much as press zone, so it’s kind of confusing to know what their primary secondary strategy is. That might be the point too, I’m not sure but they are drafting press zone guys

  44. D's avatar D says:

Wtf pass on 3rd and 1

  45. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Putting aside 2 plays today what has Howard done this season to justify his draft status? He has been beaten repeatedly. Our CBs have been horrible

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Totally disagree. By the way people were writing of McCain too and he’s been very good this year.

    • D's avatar D says:

I think Tankersly has been pretty solid. Howard has been up and down and imo is average as a CB. I think he should be further along in his development so I’m a little disappointed in him, Tankersly is about where he should be and has been playing pretty good with an occasional rookie mistake here or there

  46. D's avatar D says:

Tim shutdown is usually what they call a island DB, and that’s usually a man or press man corner and they normally stick that guy on the primary receiver. We don’t have a corner like that, we keep our guys on their own side. So we dont try to defend that way

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We play man all the time but everyone thinks it’s zone. I’m not sure what people are seeing anymore. LOL

    • D's avatar D says:

No we don’t. We play zone a lot. We play man some when we go to our flavor of Tampa 2 but we do a mix of everything I have seen us in every one of the above listed formations at CB in games this year

  47. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Bash the team all you want….but never say they don’t have heart.

  48. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

We have a 13 point lead at the half!!!

I repeat we have a lead at the half!!!

  49. D's avatar D says:

Tim zone is easy to spot because the DBs start settling into their zone and not mirroring the DB right after snap. If they are in off man it can look like zone especially wen the WR is crossing their zone, but you can tell by how tightly the coverage is in the zone and how under the route they stay instead of in the pocket of the receiver.

  50. D's avatar D says:

McCain has been much better this year but he has had some serious mistakes that cost us big to go along with some pretty great plays that stopped drives. Howard has been in similar place, ups with downs, problem is these guys are 2nd and 4th year players making rookie mistakes at a higher rate than even our rookie is

  51. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D, I know what all this stuff means. We play more man than you think. Even a quarters defense is man coverage with a zone alignment. Once it’s you vs. him it’s man. Sam Madison had a good video explaining it maybe 3 years ago or so.

  52. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Tim:
I agree that Mcain has been solid but I disagree with you on Howard and the jury is still out on Tankersley. I think CB will be a big focus in the off season

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think we need to address CB

How many things can a team focus on?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t. Lippett comes back to join the young group with Jones and McDonald at safety. The secondary is being built before our eyes. 🙂

LB has been revamped as well and depth on the DL in two offseasons.

  53. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think this defense needs to stay in tact for another year instead of always thinking everything needs to change. The offense needs a change for sure. I like this defense moving forward. Maybe I’ll be wrong. We’ll see. 🙂

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

I agree the offence needs a LOT more attention than Def when it comes to personnel.. maybe some new schemes but i think personnel is pretty good

  54. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

    NIce play design and execution

  55. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The officials are lost. They call nonsense and miss obvious.

Hey NFL, better get a handle on your game, you look like clowns.

  56. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Horrible no call on the PI on Landry

  57. D's avatar D says:

How you cove the guy crossing your zone just depends on what the rest of the defense is in, it doesn’t change if you were in zone or not. Example was what I called out Alonzo on the other day. He had zone and Gronk crossed his zone, Howard was in man and MacDonald was in zone. Cooks cleared out Howard and Macdonald on the deep. Alonzo needed to stay with Gronk but he hesitated leaving his zone which gave them the TD. It doesn’t mean that Alonzo had man coverage, it means he needed to stay with the receiver because there was no one to pick him up because Howard was in man. Had Howard been in zone he would have stayed with Cooks until he cleared the zone and Gronk entered it, MacDonald would have picked up Cooks and Alonzo would have been right to stay in his.

Again this doesn’t mean Alonzo zone then man no wait zone ah crap man again… He was zone lol

  58. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

ahh man… defense had a chance to regain the lead over the offense. lol

  59. D's avatar D says:

I think Howard is good and might improve in his third year. I think Lippett could compete with him or tankersly to start. Tankersly I think is a starter IF he continues to shake off some of those rookie mistakes and I don’t know that they keep McCain, I think they could improve in the draft over him, but he has been good enough this year to possibly earned being brought back.

I don’t think DB, S or CB, is at such a high need to make us need to draft one earlier. I do think there is a possibility if Fitzpatrick drops to us, with his position versatility we might take him. That’s about the only top CB I think we would go for over offense selection

  60. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

    aw shit.

  61. D's avatar D says:

    Wow, really Stills…..really

  62. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Pretty touch-pass there by Cutler to Stills. Too bad for the fumble.

  63. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes, sloppy, lazy, undisciplined. Luckily we’re playing against a pretty bad QB. It’s frustrating though.

  64. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

This team feeds off of guys making plays. We’ve been dead so often this year. Complementary football. I love the effort today.

  65. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

    Suh! nice pressure!

  66. D's avatar D says:

There have been two blatant PIs not called. Refs as a whole this year are way worse than last year and last year had some pretty bad games

  67. D's avatar D says:

That’s the problem with our team is we seem to always be looking for a way to shoot ourselves in the foot

  68. D's avatar D says:

Drake has run the ball very well

  69. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Love the Drake! 🙂

  70. D's avatar D says:

Like I said…….and that’s the second time we’ve thrown on 3rd and 1. Stop it.

  75. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    C’mon, Cutler! SMH

  76. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Is that on Cutler or Parker ?

  77. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

And that’s where we are as a team. WTF?!!!!!

  78. D's avatar D says:

That was a Cutler bad decision but he has been on point all day until that pass

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We gave Denver life when it should never have happened.

    • D's avatar D says:

Parker isn’t at all fighting for the pass. He is supposed to be a contested pass receiver so that’s another weak attempt. Cutler shouldn’t have thrown it to him though. That play was designed to get the RB open on the wheel

  79. D's avatar D says:

Miller is a great LB, both pass rush and keeping the edge.

  80. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

    Love the Drake !!
