Week 13 – Game 12 – Dolphins vs Broncos

Miami-Dolphins-vs-Denver-Broncos-NFL-Matchup-jpg_687226_ver1.0_1280_720

SO, our disappointing season continues as we host the hapless Denver Broncos, who oddly enough, are in worse shape than our Dolphins at 3-8.  This game is meaningless for us the fans, but to players, the games still matter, because they get paid, and they have a job to do, and for some, they are looking to make a positive impression on the coaches to earn a spot on the roster.  In the big picture, it would probably be better for us to lose out, and finish the season 4-12, and end up with a top 5 pick, but Coach Gase and probably the majority of the players don’t want to see that.

I’m not even sure what to expect from our team this week.  Denver is hurting in the secondary with the 1 game suspension of Aqib Talib, so one might think Devante Parker should feast.  The reality is, even with Jay Cutler at QB, who loves Parker, they just can’t seem to have a big game together.  His best game this season was probably game 1 against the Chargers where he caught 4 passes for 85 yards, but he scored his ONLY TD in Week 2 in the final second of a 20-6 loss against the Jets.  Remember before the season all the talk about what a great year Parker is going to have, he was tearing it up in training camp, practice and even the preseason?  BLAH BLAH BLAH, he’s completely underperformed again, along with the rest of the team.  Broken record.

Some here will be rooting for a loss, some for a win, and others don’t even care anymore and won’t bother to watch.  I’ll watch, I have to, but if it wasn’t for FF, I might find other things to do on Sundays at this point.  I think when I sit down to watch, I just hope I can see something that gives me hope that we can be a good team.  Show me some good play in all phases and beat the Broncos 34-3.  I’d rather lose than have us win a slopfest 13-10 or something, and I really mean that.  That win, to me at least is meaningless.  If we’re going to win, at least give us something to watch.

That was all kind of bizarre with the onside kick and long pass by the Phins and then the Broncos calling the timeouts trying to score at the end.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I think the time outs at the end were Joseph pissed off at Gase for the onside kick.

        100% agree

      • twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

Agreed….but why was Gase doing that in the first place? I know the offense needs reps, but seems like more than that to me. I half expected them to break out into hand to hand combat at the end of game handshake at midfield….

  32. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That was a satisfying win! Some crazy games today. The Jets vs Chiefs game was a wild one.

  33. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rob must have been loving the run game today! 23 carries for Drake, and he made the most of them. We’ll run when we can, I think that’s the case with Gase. Hard to run when you’re down a couple of scores, or when it’s not working.

  34. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

When you’re 4-7 and 3-9 challenge your team. I would think both Gase and Joseph said let us challenge our teams. Why not?

Drake gave us hope today. He is a playmaker.

  35. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

    Total Rushing Plays — 30
    Total passing plays — 34
We held the ball ten minutes more
Drake was 23/120 and a TD

ORob is right on about running more and creating a mix is a key to victory.

    • BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

I knew that toooooooo. I was just letting ORob harp on it for me. lol

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yeah, you have to be able to run the ball and be in the game to do it though. Hard to run when you’re down 14 points or more.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Seems they found a way to be a running force though this game and what a performance by Drake. Seems we found our running stud we were looking for a a coach who lets him loose……they actually sat him towards the end.

    • D's avatar D says:

Orob made it about Ajayi, not just running the football. We all know we play better when we have balance and run more. The problem is, and thus was as much Ajayi’s fault as the OL and Gase’s play calls, is he put us in a hole a lot of times by trying to do what he thought was best. Then we got to where we couldn’t run and/or Gase didn’t trust him to run the right play.

  36. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Drake would of had at least 27 more yards is it were not for two holding penalties. Those were the ones I saw there could have been more called back (dunno, tried to watch at work). I know those two holding calls on Pouncey were drive killers. Did not see replays on whether they were BS calls or not.

  37. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Can we put to rest that Gase is not into running the ball? Sorry Rob, it depends on the game.

    How about the Drake? 😉

    • D's avatar D says:

I think it had to do with Ajayi not doing what he was asked too. Easy to give up on the run if the plays you are calling, the ones you use to set up others aren’t getting executed correctly.

  38. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

I know it seemed like bad sportsmanship with the onside kick but honestly when are they going to get to practice in a game situation except one like this where it doesn’t matter if you don’t get it? If they don’t like it, recover it and show us what a bad decision it was.

    • D's avatar D says:

It’s a wierd spot for it is why it looks bad, I have no problem with it, the players shouldn’t care about any of that. Just go out there and do what you are asked to, it’s that easy. Maybe that’s part of it, don’t know. Probably is being blown up because Joseph is struggling and Gase did it to his former coordinator. It’s talking head drama

  39. D's avatar D says:

The bad argument here us that we don’t have players capable of running the ball. We have a couple pretty solid rushers.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I agree. Drake can run the ball fine. I’m actually surprised we don’t throw to him more out of the backfield, but yeah, he can run the ball pretty well, and plays stronger than he looks.

  40. D's avatar D says:

Drake still has a lot to prove, but this should prove to us he has the capability. That’s still a tough defense to run on, so it should at least help with our confidence in him

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Can’t help but love what we saw in Drake today. I thought when we drafted him he had the ability to be a big play back

  41. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

32 pass and 30 rush. Just saying!

  42. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    The onside kick was ridiculous

    But herd is right
We have had so few offensive snaps his season may as well take them when you get them

  49. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ken, when we were allowing 20 or less points the first 4 games who was playing corner? Howard! Tank started from I think game 3.

The defense can play, but not without support.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Howard has been horrible all year. How many interceptions do we have? How many game changing plays does he make? Today he did so I will give him that and hopefully that is a sign of things to come but otherwise he has done jack shit all year. I don’t care how well the D played early on but it was not because of him

  50. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ken, Howard hits and tackles like a safety. The 2018 defense should be better than what we’re seeing in 17.

    Fix the offense.

    Tim:
I agree that we need to fix the offense but the defense is broke too. It is hardly a well oiled machine ready to roll once we fix the offense. We need impact players at almost every level on the defense. We have so few big plays on D. We had that today but we also played a really bad team.

  59. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Tim:
I also we get a big fix on offense next year when we get Tannehill back. Cutler was not good again today. He is not the only problem on offense. The line needs help but I do think having our starting QB back will help a lot.

I could care less about Ajayi, my problem is Gase dumped him without a replacement and this team has suffered for it.

I doubt Ajayi is gone because he put us in a hole???

Ajayi is gone because he was causing a distraction by bitching about only getting 11 carries in the Balt loss, he didn’t get the carries in the other 2 losses and i’m sure he was bitching about that as well.
and his bitching may not be because he didn’t get the carries but he may think the limited carries cost his team the games. which they may have.

Yeah, you have to be able to run the ball and be in the game to do it though. Hard to run when you’re down 14 points or more.
    ___________________________________________
It all depends when you are down 14pts, if it is late in the 4th quarter I agree, if it’s early stick to your game plan
Running the ball should be priority numero ono in the off season, this has to be the most important facet of the game which IMO it is not high on Miami’s priority list.
we should focus our personnel on strong run blocking OL and a dominant downhill RB, we need opposing Defenses focused on stopping our running game.
we have to learn how to run the ball, that takes coaching and personnel

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Drake seems to be the kind of back that is capable of breaking one at any time. You have to give him his share of touches and eventually he is going to take it to the house

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I agree, even when he’s getting stopped you still have to give him the ball, you can’t go away from it because it isn’t working good on one day.

    Wyoming, Nice draft last night.

  88. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

The draft is like Christmas, so when the draft rolls around and all the kids are around the draftmas tree, some kids are jealous that one kid gets a better toy (higher pick) than him.

  89. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Don’t know why some down Bobby McCain. He has been one of the more solid and consistent players on defense all season. Everyone on every NFL team has busted plays every now and then but if they are not a future HOF or pro-bowler then they are not forgiven then some people say they are garbage and need to be replaced or up graded. McCain proved himself again yesterday for the negative nelly’s. He is definitely in at least top 15 if not top 10 slot CB in the league.

  90. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

what an amazing coincidence, running the ball 23 times or more this year we are 5-0, running 17 times or less we are 0-7, it’s just a coincidence though this can’t be the key to victory, Can it??

    • BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

No it’s not a coincidence. Sean Peyton realized they trying to throw to much last year. Look what they are doing with their 2 headed rushing attack this year. Ingram is having a career year. Though, their OL has been healthy most of the sesaon.

  91. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

ORob, the worst thing about Draftmas is we tell Football Claus what we want for months and months, then we end up getting not quite what we wanted. You get the next best thing like when I was a kid, my parents would get the next best thing because it was cheaper. lol

  92. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Stanger _ Just catching up. Yes, I was at the game yesterday. I’ll be there for all the remaining home games.

I guess I’m in the minority….I liked the onside kick. Keep your foot on the accelerator. Never let your opponent off the ground once you get them there. Or as Conan would say, “Drive your enemy from the field, hear the laments of his women and children.” Or something like that.

  93. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Running the ball makes your defense better, look at Jax, Coughlin gets a RB with a high pick then gets a tackle from alabama with his 2nd, you know where his mind is at, he wants to run the ball,

THE RESULT= they now have the best Defense in football and are sitting at 8-4

  94. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Miami wins out, goes 9-7 , makes the playoffs.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

oh to be a dreamer again……

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

It is not mathematically impossible, but nearly so. IF by some miracle we can win out the next four games we would be 4-2 in the division and 8-4 in the conference. With losses to the Ravens and Raiders we would still probably not have enough conference wins and the head to head losses to these two non-division winners will kill us. This season is already over when it comes to the playoffs.

Fede is making his case to stick around next year, blocked punt,

  96. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

So you are saying there is a chance? 1.1% chance of Dolphins making the playoffs this year……

  97. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I “watched” the game at a local bar yesterday. I have watched in quotation marks because I didn’t get to see much of the game with all the distractions which included a drunk, super obnoxious (but also super hot) Jet’s fan that was messing with me.

The bar tender kept telling me, “take her out of here now before she sober’s up. I’m telling you it’s a done deal, if you just get her to leave with you now.” I was aroused and disgusted all at the same time. LOL

I kept telling the, ick jets fan, hasn’t your uber arrived yet?

    LOL at Phelps/Conan

I like McCain but he is limited imo. He is a slot cb/nickel cb. You can’t really put him on the boundary or match him up against the opponent top Wr. However in that nickel role he provides very valuable service

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I could live with McCain in the slot, but whether a potential upgrade, someone to develop or just a cheap vet…we do need two guys like him. Don’t think Howard or Tank have slot cover in them.

These are quotes like ones you have read over and over again about the Evil G…except these are about Gase from guys who know him real well. Maybe he isn’t as much the “Aw’shucks” nice guy he comes off as at times. Does seem all agreed the move was aimed if anything at the Broncos management and not Joseph.

“Gase is a savage. He loves to win, he loves to embarrass you. That the onside kick doesn’t surprise you.”
    — Emmanuel Sanders

“The way I guess he left the Denver Broncos, he wasn’t satisfied, so he went onside. He kicked the onside, and he got it, and he was happy about it. He got them a win and we still trying to find one.”
    — Demaryius Thomas

“That’s ‘Goose,’ man. He sees blood in the water, he’s just going to attack it.”
    — CJ Anderson
