No more Ndamukong Suh. He’s in Los Angeles, supposedly next to Aaron Donald, who’s holding out. If I haven’t read at least 20 articles written by writers outside of FLA who work for major companies as ESPN, CBS, NFL.com etc that proclaim that because Suh is gone, this defense just can’t be any good. Let’s face facts, this Dolphins defense wasn’t that good with him, so to say his loss will be monumental doesn’t register for me. Enough of Suh, because we’re looking at what we DO have, not what we don’t. As has been said ad nauseam, we’re going to be rotating players on the D-line much more than we have in the past, specifically in the NS era, where he played 971 snaps a season, which is just too much, even for a top 5 DT in the NFL.
Honestly, I say this with no malice, but I think it’s very possible that an average football fan from a different team might not be able to name 1 DT on our current roster. There are no “stars”, and besides the Akeem Spence, who we picked up in a trade with the Lions for a 2019 conditional 7th RD pick, our oldest DT at the moment is 25 years old, and that’s probably our most talented one, Jordan Phillips. With the current philosophy of heavy rotation, the pressure won’t fall on one particular player, although Jordan Phillips will be expected to play at a higher level now, as he’s now “the man”. Let’s take a look at who we have . . .
Jordan Phillips DT – 6’6 341 – 25YO
The 2015 2nd RD pick (Pick#52) came to the Dolphins with a reputation as a DT who has all the physical gifts you could ask for, except the “inconsistent motor” tag. Oh, the dreaded on/off switch and the always included “if this guy ever decides he wants to play, watch out!”. He’s had 3 seasons of “cruising in my opinion, he hasn’t really shown himself to be a consistent player, still “showing flashes”, but nothing totally tangible to grab at. Maybe if he’s rotating in and out more, he’ll give better effort while he’s out there, and I’m sure the coaches are hoping for just that. It’s like a starting pitcher who is thrown into the bullpen, he can just let go for a couple of innings and throw as hard as he can, because he doesn’t have to try and go 9 innings, only 2. 58 total tackles (37 solo) and 4.5 sacks tells me he’s been playing to stay fresh for 9 innings. Time to go out there and kill it every snap young man!
________________________________________________________________
Davon Godchaux DT – 6’3 315 23YO
Godchaux was such a pleasant surprise last season. Last year’s 5th RD pick (178th) had a very promising season. This kid has a great motor, and the results are there to see. He can tackle too, and last year, Godchaux finished with 40 tackles (26 solo). That’s production. Godchaux didn’t register a sack, but I saw him around the QB just missing a few times. This kid has me hopeful, but I love the overachievers. I thought Godchaux showed some good explosion, but he also needs to be more disciplined, as I saw him offsides quite a few times. Those penalties are killer, and I’m sure the coaches are working with him. I look for a little growth from Godchaux, and maybe even a couple of sacks this season.
________________________________________________________________
Akeem Spence DT – 6’1 307 26YO
Spence is the grizzled veteran here, at the old age of 26. This just goes to show you how young this DT rotation is now. Spence is a 5 year veteran who came up with Tampa Bay Bucs for 4 seasons, and played for the Detroit Lions last season. Dolphins DL coach Kris Kocurek was in Detroit last year, and liked Spence, so the Dolphins brought him in. Spence is a capable player who’s used to being rotated in. Last season with the Lions, Spence had a nice season, 39 total tackles (19 solo) along with 3 sacks. Pretty solid for a 3rd guy in, which just goes to show you the potential effectiveness of rotating players more often. I think Spence fits in perfectly here, a guy who knows how to play the game, teach the young guys, doesn’t have a “ME” attitude, and has the ability to start if necessary. Great pickup!
_______________________________________________________________
Vincent Taylor DT – 6’3 306 24YO
The Dolphins drafted Taylor in the 6th RD last season, and I think they got exceptional value from 2 DT’s taken in the 5th and 6th RD’s. Taylor didn’t play as much as Godchaux, but this year he will be in the running for some more snaps, provided he earns them. Taylor played in 13 games, finishing with 18 total tackles (11 solo). He’s not definitely in, but I think it’s Taylor’s spot to lose at this point.
_______________________________________________________________
Gabe Wright DT – 6’3 309 26YO
Wright is a former 2015 4th RD pick by the Detroit Lions. He is definitely at the crossroads here, this being his 3rd team in 3 years in the NFL. The Lions waived him after spending a 4th RD pick on him in early September 2016. He played in 7 games his rookie season, but was unimpressive. The Browns picked him up and put him on their PS. The Browns finally activated Wright in 2016 after appearing in just 5 games, and then the Browns waived him. The Eagles signed Wright of June 2017, then cut him in September. The Dolphins signed Wright at that point and signed him to the PS, where he was finally activated the last game of the season in ’17. This kid has work to do, and he better get at it fast, or he won’t be long for the NFL, which in some cases means Not For Long. BTW, Wright was a projected 2nd or 3rd RD pick in the 2015 draft.
_______________________________________________________________
Jamiyus Pittman DT – 6’1 319 23 YO
Pittman was an UDFA pickup this season after he played right in our backyard at Central Florida. Piitman played both outside and inside at CF, but he will definitely be inside as a DT in the pros. Pittman is going to have to play his best football if he wants to crack this roster. Depending on how many DT’s we carry, last year we carried 4 last season, but keep in mind that DE William Hayes moves to DT in some packages. If we do carry 4, that means Pittman will have to leapfrog both Wright and Taylor, a tall order. If we carry 5, which is pretty likely, especially if the plan is to keep rotating players in, he has a better shot. Pittman was pretty productive at CF, finishing with 138 total tackles (66 solo) along with 13 sacks in 4 seasons.
_______________________________________________________________
Anthony Moten DT – 6’4 315 23 YO
Moten is another UDFA that played in FLA, Moten played for the Hurricanes. Moten was a part time player at Miami, not a starter, but that’s fine considering he would just be part of the rotation early on. Moten was not a combine invitee. Moten played in 27 games in 4 seasons at Miami, finishing with 38 total tackles (14 solo) along with 1.5 sacks. Moten is obviously a longshot to make the cut.
_______________________________________________________________
So that’s where we stand at DT. It’s still possible we pick up a veteran after early season cuts, but my guess is we probably carry 5 DT’s, and I think those will be Phillips, Godchaux, Spence, Taylor, and whichever DT shows the most in the preseason. Wright has the pedigree, and this could be his last chance to get his career in gear, so I give him the slight edge, with Pittman right behind him.

Mike, Myth was on the original SS board too, early 2000s.
If Truth was really a doucher, it may not have been Myth. Myth and I spoke via email, he seemed liked an OK guy, so I might be wrong, but his email really was thruth1305
Yeah, I just checked and I created my gravatar account November 2005 But I was a lurker for months before that.
Nope wasn’t gravatar yet.
There is a guy who goes by the name of the truth on the Palm Beach Post I always thought it was home
I never changed my name or trolled 🙄
Tim – I was going through old emails, really old stuff, like from 2011, and apparently Phinmanski went on a week tirade about blacks and Jews. I didn’t even remember that happening, either did Son, but the three of us, you me and Son all exchanged emails about it. It was on the SS.
Myth always hated me. Not sure what it was I said but we always threw rocks at each other. LOL
If he hated you, I know why. He told me in his email that he couldn’t stand homers, fans who looked at things through rose colored glasses. He never mentioned you, just said that he problem with guys like that, and even though you’re not a complete homer, you might be closer to that than some other people.
That’s funny. Nothing like being miserable……
It’s funny, I didn’t see him that way, but I could see he wasn’t happy with what we were doing, and either was I. I despised the Parcells regime. I thought he totally half assed everything he built here, and it showed.
FWIW – He felt that the people who he was talking about couldn’t stand him either. and maybe he was right. lol
LOL, I’m sorry to all that I look for the light. 😉
Same old BS at ESPN, NFL Live were goi g to show all 26 teams that are reporting to camp today. Yeah whatever.
Looks great! Can’t wait to see him out there for us!
Me to!
Been a while since we had a VERY good LB!
Don’t know if he’ll be one?
But my hopes are up!
Another worker. I love this kid’s demeanor. The same with Godchaux. A team of do your job types can be better than a team lead by 3-4 name guys. We’ve seen that before, it never really worked. You want good everywhere.
Wyo – I think he’ll be better than anyone we’ve had at MLB for quite some time

Tim always takes the haters ire for being the #1 defender of the BRAND!
It’s about players, not every other thing but. 🙂
I like to give players a chance, not write them off right off the bat. That’s how I’m wired. I do get he sucks. I just don’t always agree with the player. LOL
Mike E,
I actually know “Truth” from the Topix days. He is not Myth… even though Myth used an email that had ‘truth’ in it. The two are VERY different people, believe me! 🙂
I do believe you. I said that if he was real doucher (Truth), then it wasn’t Myth
Truth is a VERY good dude, and I surmise that Myth is, too.
Mike E,
Yeah, Bro! It SUCKS that the SS deleted all of their old blog replies where we would converse. SO MUCH GOLD in those days!!! 😀

It was Green Bay .., i remember meeting Brian next day and he was lamenting about the Packer Fans on the bus to La Quinta …. we were in same bus 😎
My beginning was the split to FME.. i had been lurking (stalking) on SS and noticed a bunch of Missing Personas.. i believe my first post ever was asking if anyone knew where all “the Cool Kids” went.. David directed me to Walkers site and MF 13 was first to welcome me in to the community..

Lol Tim, like a no name defense could actually work in the NFL😉
Just watched a YouTube of every Fales dropback against Buffalo. The kid has got something. His pocket presence is very good. I’m ok with him as our #2.
Seems Landry is/was a perfect receiver for him, but Amendola and Wilson should be similar. I no longer agree that if Ryan goes down we cant make the playoffs.
Thought Fales started to put it together as game went on. I’m more than OK with him at #2.
So are you more than happy 😉
More Elephant than Elephant?
The Training Camp site: This year will mark the 26th training camp conducted at the Baptist Health Training Facility, a run that began in 1993. The Dolphins previously spent 23 years (1970-92) at Biscayne College/St. Thomas University in Miami; and three years (1967-69) at Saint Andrews School in Boca Raton; after splitting time in their first training camp (1966) between the Colonial Inn Motel & Happy Dolphin Inn Fields in St. Petersburg Beach, Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport, and Saint Andrews School.
The SS site was the first one I ever posted to in this “franchise” where we are now. (Thank you very much, Admins.) You guys move around like the Cardinals and the Rams franchises, But this is the best it’s ever been as far as both quality of content from Mike E and Pig etc. and quality of posters
But I’ve been on Dolphins fan posting sites since the old AOL chat rooms.
I started posting in “modern times” when Parcells got hired after the bad year. I remember the discussions about his bringing the Dallas guys Sparano and Ireland over.
The thing I hated most was when Home would barrage the board with long nonsense posts that he copied and pasted over and over so that no one could really use the blog for hours at a time.
And that is the very reason why Home was for many years the only one every banned. Most of us are A-holes at times….. but trying spam a place out of usable will get you exiled.
MY WIFE SAYS she saw a blurb on CNN stating that a Miami Dolphins player took out a one page add in the Miami Herald announcing why HE IS LEAVING FOOTBALL AS OF TODAY. bUT SHE DID NOT GET THE PLAYER’S NAME.

“Receiver DeVante Parker, who was drafted in 2015 and whose deal was scheduled to expire after this year, was locked up for 2019 when the team picked up his fifth-year option in the offseason. That option for $9.38 million means Parker’s rights belong to the Dolphins for 2019 and the money is guaranteed for injury.”

8.5 sacks playing out of position isn’t too shabby. I’d take that this year, but expect double digits. 11.5 for Wake and maybe more, if he plays more of the pass specialist roll. 6 for Branch, 7 for Harris and 5 for Hayes would be 38, with another 7 coming from the blitz.
We may see running plays just to slow these guys down.

knowing his avg YPC is mis-leading if he has break-away speed, sure he can take it to the house but can he pick up the tough yards?
that’s really the question.
for those who want Tannehill to succeed, picking up the tough yards on 1st down plays a huge role in his success.
so if Drake breaks an 80 yard run, then avgs 2 yards a carry on the next 10 plays he did great because he picked up 100 yards and avgd 4.7 YPC, wow that’s great but is that effective running.
if you take all of a rbs runs that are less than 10 yards calculate them for an avg and do the same for other RBs to compare, wouldn’t this tell you who runs best btwn the tackles??
they are all judged by the same criteria.
in all seriousness, right or wrong this was my thought process when figuring those stats out.
I get what you’re saying, but you cant just remove the long run. It’s like counting cards in blackjack, when you get an ace its counted as a side note and not eliminated, because it’s more important.
Just like Ajayi’s 200 yard games cant be removed. Those games he was the show and the biggest reason we won.
RB1 gets exactly 4 yards every time on 1st down, and is in on 6 drives that result in 2 FGs.
RB2 averages 1 ypc on 5 first downs, but breaks a long run for 40 yards and a TD, his 6 drives result in 7 points.
RB3 averages 2 ypc on 6 first downs and 5 ypc on 6 other first downs mixed throughout the game on all 12 drives the team had for 13 pts.
Which RB performed the best on 1st down?
We really don’t know, because many other factors lead to each ones success or lack of.

your scenarios are crazy, the point is down and distance on 2nd down, if you have a reasonable 2nd down play of 6 yards or less the opposing D is guessing whether you will run or pass, they have to guard against both.
2nd and 8….it’s reasonable that you will have to pass on 2nd down, your offense is one dimensional and the opposing D is playing pass.
you become an un-balanced offense at that point and the pressure on the QB is greater.
it’s reasonable to figure out what kind of field position a RB gives me on 2nd down, and to do that you have to eliminate 10 yard + runs and figure his YPC from the rest.
he didn’t have that many 10 yard plus runs last season…..he had 8 big runs
You have no sense of reality on this, you take one small factor and take that as the end all. Many different things need to be considered.
That chick smiled at me and has beautiful eyes, therefore she’s the most beautiful woman in the world. This is comparable to your logic.

knowing his avg YPC is mis-leading……
Yes, but after all your convoluted math you still showed that Ajayi only averaged 3 yards PER GAME more on first down than Drake so that proved that it was a negligible difference between the two backs. I won’t do it, because I don’t care that much about the results but you can go and do the same thing with Gore’s runs last season as see where he comes in if it makes you feel better.
The thing is this though;
you are not going to be happy because Gase runs the zone based offense not the power run offense so Drake is the better choice in what the team is going to run.

Guess those eyes above the “a” in Parker means something bad??
Just jabbing him with a we’re watching??
My phone won’t do that… a with eyes above it..
“I think he’s a phenomenal football coach, I think he’s a great person. I think he sets a great culture. And culture is everything in professional sports. Coming in the building every day and having an opportunity to work with Coach Gase again, it’s very special. And I’m making the most of it.”
”Real nice to hear about Gase, but then it is from Osweiler…. whose fate is in Gase’s hands.
Woohoo!! 1st day of TC.
Thanks for the twitter feeds, Rock. I’m kind of missing my Twitter account right now, especially since TC was the only reason I originally created an account in the first place. It makes it easier having peeps like you and M13 here that usually keep us up to speed with those.
Thanks to Wyo too, and everyone who posts these things!

@ArmandoSalguero
Kenyan Drake still fast 💨.
————————
Nice. From what I read, he put on 5-10 lbs so if he keeps that next level speed with the extra .weight, it can only mean good things.
Good stuff.
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL! that is a great picture.
MSN now has us as 32 on the power poll. When reading through the list of teams ahead of us I had a hard time trying to find teams I thought would suck this year, outside of jets, Bills and maybe Cleveland. I don’t think much of Chicago either, but the media seems to love them.
A lot of Tannehill to Amendola on day 1. I mentioned he’d be Ryan’s favorite target and it wasn’t just throwing to him a lot in mini camp, because Amendola was new.
Just getting on the same page on day one of TC. 😉
Same thing you said for mini camp.
So who were the stars of the 1st practice?
#32 huh? Fuck’em, they will look like idiots
It’s crazy how many of the national pundits have us ranked in the bottom 3 of the league. Either they are clueless or we are are, lol.
I honestly can’t see us as worse than 7-9, and that is things go poorly for us.
Yeah, I definitely don’t see us as terrible, and I honestly see us as improved from last year. Maybe we’re clueless like you said. 🙂

Kong, I don’t have twitter either. I go to this site for all my news Dolphin. They have a twitter feed on the left side that they redirect all things dolphin to.
http://www.phins.com/phins-news.php
They also do a good job of posting links to all the different sources for dolphins news.
Thanks, Rock. That site has an excellent compilation of Dolphins news. Bookmarked
I had corresponded with Curt Fennell a few times, usually to tell him how much I like his site. I sent him a couple of emails asking him if he would be so kind as to put our site on his blogroll, he never even gave me the decency of a response.
That’s kinda lame, especially considering how many fan sites they have linked.
most of the links they have up are defunct anyway. If you click them they are either updated last time in 2014 or the domain is up for grabs.
Maybe I’ve been selling Fales short. I know some here are high on him, and I’ve been dismissive of him, but it seems like there is some buzz around him.
I wasnt real sure, until I saw a YouTube video of him against the Bill’s. He’s great in the pocket, the awareness is there like Russel Wilson, hes just not as athletic, but who is.
Rock – I just post a link on twitter, where more people will see the articles than on Curt’s site. I was just disappointed he didn’t respond.
understood. who knows if he is even active over there anymore (not defending him)
Maybe we are clueless
you know what they say about leading mules to water……..
No, I know what they say about leading a horse to water, what do they say about mules?
same thing however a mule is more stubborn as some are around here
LOL a you calling anyone stubborn you stubborn SOB. 🙂
They say “Everyone in the world knows you can lead a horse to water but can’t make him drink, but Rob is the only one that tries to lead mules because he can’t get anything right.”
I’ve been grabbing you mules by the reigns and you’re shaking your head fighting me all the way to the water!!
I wish there was some way I could post the google results page for a search.
I googled “Dramatic Gopher with Dolphins Jersey” just to see if anyone had doctored up the gif above to wear a dolphins jersey. (there are literally 1000’s of this gif with different shit added) and the #1 image that returned was Miko Grimes! LOL
Do any of you miss Brent Grimes?
Can’t wait to see how Jakeem Grant looks this year…it may be his break out year
that was awesome. He broke like 3 tackles on that play.
I think Grant could be an X-factor for us. And seems kid is as solid a person as there is.
so are you going to drink or not Rob!?
I’ll wait to see the running stats,
stats are meaningless (at least that’s what I have been told) use your eyes.
You can lead a Dolfan to Koolaid, but you can’t make him drink.
Bull shit these fans around here are sucking on kool-aide
but I didn’t MAKE them drink it…
We’re a bunch of suckers Rob
I’m thinking the same thing about Grant. He was dynamic towards the end of last year. and should only be better this year I’m glad I’m not coach, because I wanted to get rid of him after he fumbled 48 kickoffs that first year. (Go ahead and pluck that low hanging fruit)
When you’re 40′ tall, that might not might not be fruit that’s hanging. Be careful what you ask for. lol
LMFAO!
I’ll pick it. there were only four.
I was thinking more along the lines of “glad you’re not coach too….” lol
have a rotten girder beam in one of my homes….had to use concrete blocks and 4x4s to jack up both sides so i can cut it out and replace it. tomorrow i’ll be cutting the old girder beam out…it is two 2″x8″x16′ boards sitting on top of 3 pier caps.
doing it myself…a little worried about cutting the old one out to say the least!
You have trucks in your house?
no… but i had to crawl under the home with a floor jack….no wonder they call it a floor jack!
You said you had 4×4’s in your house
