The Fest, it was beautiful. Great meeting some new, very cool people. Great spending time during the week with those I’ve already met. The Game, anything but beautiful. I would say to most of our surprise, it was the defense that apparently got stuck in the team hotel, and didn’t make it to the game. Quite a few were so concerned about the play of QB Brock Osweiler, and it was our defense, which had been playing opportunistic football, that really let us down.
I, and a few others, including Bookman’s pal and Lions fan Fred, felt like the score didn’t accurately portray what we all saw on Sunday. We were thrashed, and the 10 point differential doesn’t tell the story. At the game, it’s hard to see the individual battles, but we were getting wiped out, and run over all day long. 248 yards rushing, with most of the damage coming from rookie Kerryon Johnson, but really, the Lions O-line, which was devastating our front 7.
I noticed so many damn substitutions that looked to me like we weren’t sure WTF we were doing. For instance, at least twice, I saw Minkah trot onto the field, Baker trot off the field, only to have them turn around and switch back. On the O-line, it looked to me from up on high, that Ted Larsen had an awful game, and sure enough, he was replaced by newly acquired OG/OC Wesley Johnson, who was the Jets starting C last season.
The injuries are really piling on up us and I fear what happened last year, starting the season 4-2, only to go on and lose 5 in a row is a real possibility. We lost a dynamic offensive playmaker in WR Albert Wilson. You could say he made enough of an impact to almost single handedly give us 2 of our 4 wins. Now he’s gone for the season. Our deep threat WR, who has been somewhat forgotten lately, Kenny Stills, gone for at least this week and maybe more. We will be scraping the bottom of the depth chart barrel to bring in Devante Parker and possibly LCIII (Leonte Carroo). Hey, if you can’t get onto the field at first, hang around and wait for the attrition to happen, and you’ll get your shot.
I thought Brock Osweiler played well enough, and was surprised that some thought he played poorly. Sure, Matt Stafford played better, but Stafford is a much better QB playing in his 10th season for the same team. I thought Osweiler made a couple of great throws, and yes, one particular throw should have been picked, but he wasn’t the reason we didn’t win. Even if Tannehill were 100%, I want to see more of Osweiler. My plan would be draft a QB in 2019, and try and find your backup QB. Maybe Osweiler is that guy. Tannehill doesn’t fit that bill at $26M next season, so I believe this is Tannehill’s last season here, or at least it should be.
It’s tough to overcome injuries, and this will make 2 consecutive seasons where injuries have ravaged our roster. Last season, Raekwon McMillan was injured early in game 1. T.J. McDonald was suspended for 8 games. OG Ted Larsen was on IR for 8 games. CB Tony Lippett tore his achilles and missed the entire season. Later on RT Ja’Wuan James went on IR, along with DE William Hayes. This season has been much of the same. TE MarQueis Gray started the avalanche, followed by Pro Bowl OG Josh Sitton. ST’s ace LB Mike Hull and OG/OC Jake Brendel followed suit, and were both placed on the returnable IR. William Hayes was just a little later, as he tried not to get a roughing the QB penalty by placing his full body weight on QB Derek Carr, awkwardly landed on his knee in his effort to do so, and joined the barrage of injuries and ended up on the IR. OC Dan Kilgore who we traded for with SFO in the offseason also landed on the IR with a torn triceps muscle.
The last thing we needed was a Thursday Night Effing Football game after these injuries. We’re short in the WR corps, with just Amendola, Grant, Parker and possibly Leonte Carroo, the latter 2 have 2 receptions for 40 yards on the season, and both of those are Parker’s. DE Charles Harris is OUT (Disappointing!), TE A.J. Derby DNP, TE Mike Gesicki has a shoulder injury and was limited in practice, as was WR Danny Amendola and S T.J. McDonald with an ankle injury.
We still have a winning record, but can we maintain it? We’re going to have to be creative on offense, now that 2 of our HR hitters are out (Wilson and Stills). We’re going to have to look for Grant and Drake, and maybe our old long lost pal Devante Parker becomes a hero for a day. On defense, we shouldn’t get run over by the Texans. Lamar Miller has 371 yards on 95 carries for a less than stellar 3.9 YPC. Alfred Blue has 216 yards for a 3.4 YPC average. It shouldn’t be the run game, although QB DeShaun Watson is tied for 2nd with 216 yards rushing, so we have to contain him. I’ve already mentioned DE Charles Harris is out, but DE Jonathan Woodard will be back.
DeShaun Watson lit up the NFL last year before getting injured, but this year has been a fall back to earth for Watson. Watson has thrown for 1937 yards, 10 TD’s and 7 INT’s, along with his 216 yards rushing and 1 rushing TD. WR DeAndre Hopkins is still one of the NFL’s best, but he’s been doubled quite a bit, and WR Will Fuller has been the beneficiary of much less attention on the other side. JJ Watt is back to being JJ Watt with 46 total tackles, 7 sacks, 8 TFL, 12 QB hits, and 4 FF’s already. We somehow managed to contain Khalil Mack, but the Bears didn’t have Jadeveon Clowney opposite him.
When we’re on defense, it’s time to start sacking the QB! If I told you before the season that after 7 games that DT Vincent Taylor and LB Jerome Baker would be leading the team in sacks with 2 each, you’d think I was crazy. What’s even worse is that 3 of our sacks came from William Hayes (IR) and Jordan Phillips (Waived). That leaves only 8 sacks from our current roster. Ugh!
For now, just figure out a way to get a win, and try to hold tough until the BYE week, which comes in Week 11.
I want to thank Stanger for his wonderful hospitality, Chef Warren for his chefness, and everyone who came down to make this last Fest another success. I hope to see more and more of you in the coming years, and you all know I’m older than Methuselah, so please don’t wait too long!

I suggest we ditch the “Wide-9” until we fill Jordan Phillips’ void with another BIG body. I was all but pounding the table to sign Jonathan Hankins, in the event Phillips regressed or got injured (or released, which I didn’t see coming).
Having two 305-pounders in the middle of the “Wide-9” isn’t working… and if I’m not mistaking, every “Wide-9” has a BIG body in the middle of it. The Eagles, for example, have Haloti Ngata.

Quinn is making really sweeping loops to the QB’s, he is coming around fast and low but his arc is too deep and because no one is pushing the pocket back from the front, none of the QB’s are fluching back to him. He either needs to change his path to the QB or start with some power moves mixed in instead of the same move all night.
—————-
I agree with this 100%. Perhaps we’re missing a big body who pushes the pocket back from the inside.
At least clogs it up some.
We are. I do like the Dt’s we have though. Nothing against them.
Rob – The Jaguars are the perfect example of what I’m talking about. They have the defense, the run game, but they will only go as far as their QB will take them, which unfortunately, isn’t far enough.
————
DeVante Parker for Haloti Ngata? That will NEVER happen, as it would put the Eagles’ “Wide-9” in jeopardy.
I doubt we see any player for player trades. The only one i could come up with was Parker for Fowler Jr in Jax.
If parker goes, I want a top pick if we can get it or a player and a pick.
Why on earth would we trade Parker for Ngata? Dude is on the wrong side of 30, no matter how good he was.
Desperation to save the season, perhaps. As I said above, though, it would never happen. Just thinking out loud, being the Eagles are looking to acquire players.
In wide 9 you need one 1 tech DT that can crush the 0 gap. Phillips was the only guy who fits that role. Both our DT’s are 3 techs and i think they are pretty good at 3 tech, but if you are in wide 9, you really need a good 1 tech DT. You also have to have a really good MLB, and we also dont have that right now. He is still learning but it makes us weak in the middle for sure. We do need to adjust the scheme and play to our strengths.
Sorry i should have said the remaining DT’s are all 3 techs.
100% agreed, as I stated above: ditch the “Wide-9” until we have a BIG body. 1-tech DT= Nose Guard. We had one in Phillips, but nobody to replace him. Should have signed Johnathan Hankins when we had the chance.
I really don’t know as much about playing in the trenches so I will agree. LOL
Give me a 5th and a boundary CB for Parker. I say a 5th cause we seem to make better picks in the middle rounds. lol
Any of you FF’ers going to pick up Parker. LOL
I’ve had Parker for a while in my keeper league, and I picked him after Wilson went down in my main league. Of course, I didn’t play him last night though. lol
I DO believe we can fetch a 3rd rounder for DeVante after last night.
Well, that’s all I’ve got in order to fix our Defense. Adding a BIG body (NG, 1-tech, whatever you’d like to call it) could go a long way for us. It should help us push the interior O-Line back to help our edge rushers (see my 11:01 AM post) get to the QB. It should help our LBs. It should help our run-D as well.
Kill 3 1/2 birds with 1 stone, see!
M – I’d much rather get a 3rd or even a 4th for Parker, than take Haloti Ngata from the Eagles. That would be an awful trade on our part.
Totally agreed! I wouldn’t do it, but I wonder what a desperate HC might do. And no… I don’t think the Eagles would do it, either.
I think we can get a 3rd rounder for DeVante… let’s do THAT.
And PLEASE take note: I was only thinking out loud about a DeVante for Ngata trade. Would a desperate Adam Gase try to do that? But I doubt he even realizes that the “Wide-9” needs a BIG body to be effective.
I would hope if Gase got that desperate, that Chris Grier or Mike T would not accommodate him. lol
We could try to trade for another BIG body, not named Ngata. We could poach from another team’s PS. We could sign a FA still out there. I DO believe that if we’re going to continue running the “Wide-9”, we’ve got to address the NG position. If we don’t, then ditch it.

YUP! LOL 😆
I hear ya!
Gase: Guys, we’ve got get a BIG body in there to supplement our “Wide-9” D.
Grier: I suggest we ditch the “Wide-9” if we can’t get that BIG body.
Tannenbaum: Hold my beer, I’m going to work out a trade for Marcell Dareus.
Gase: Didn’t he sign a 6-year, $100M contract?
Tannenbaum: Bro, I’ve GOT this!
As far as our Offense is concerned, there’s not too much that needs or should be changed as far as personnel. Adding a new O-Lineman isn’t going to work, being we’re halfway through the season and it takes time to gel. I’m good with our WRs and the depth (which includes our PS, though our starters have been hurt). Our rook TEs need the reps to get better, and I believe that Nick O’Leary has been VERY good for us. We’ve got GOOD RBs.
The QB situation is what it is, and there’s nothing we can do to upgrade at this point in time (learn a new playbook overnight, gel with new team, etc).
IMO, GASE is the problem on Offense. His playcalling is suspect at best. He runs a strict horizontal, dink-and-dunk Offense. He mismanages the game too many times.
I think it’s almost always on the players. Execution is the key to playing good. But, I just don’t understand what this coaching staff is trying to do. They don’t seem to put guys in the right positions to make plays. Yes, sometimes it’s players who aren’t executing, but the playcalling and alignments just seem so disjointed and willy-nilly…especially on offense. Gase never sticks to what’s working. He was hyped as a guy who knew how to set up mismatches and take advantage of them. Where’s that?
****
This game was 10-14 at halftime and still a winnable game. Instead of playing to keep it close….shorten the field….limit the Texans offensive snaps….win the field position and TOP battle….we just keep doing the same stupid shit. Gase ain’t the guy. I’m done with his schizophrenic offense. He’s an insecure control freak who can’t manage players and doesn’t seem capable of understanding what’s working and what’s not in game. This was a really bad loss from top to bottom. Shit needs to change.
And quickly going back to our Defense… Matt Burke is a huge part of the problem on that side of the ball. He just doesn’t seem to be able to call the right plays at the right time.
Our Defense has MAJOR talent — all three levels — and it’s not being properly utilized.
It would seem that Steve Ross has a 4-year ‘make-or-break’ mandate for HCs.
Sparano lasted 4 years (.475 winning %).
Philbin lasted 4 years (.462 winning %).
Gase will be afforded 4 years (.500 winning %, so far).
I’m sorry, but an average of 8-8 isn’t going to put ya in the playoffs but for wacky years… thus, a .500 winning % is going to get a HC FIRED.
Let’s see how desperate Gase gets in order to save this season, and in order to set himself up for a winning 4th season in ’19.
And let’s see if Gase releases more players to send another message.
Jimmy Johnson,Dave Wannstedt,Nick Saban,Cam Cameron,Tony Sparano,Todd Bowles,Joe Philbin,Dan Campbell, Adam Gase is here, everything isdifferentthe same as it ever was . . .Prodigal sons for 500 Alex
Who is Mike Shula?
I would welcome Mike Shula here. I said that before we hired Gase

I should go back and put myself through the misery of that game just to see this first hand, because i dont remember us stopping anyone very often.
I don’t want anything but picks for Parker
Forget about vets we can use
2018 is over for us
Build your future
^ absolutely!
BURN IT DOWN!!! BURN IT ALL DOWN!!!!
I wonder if Shariff Floyd is healthy enoug to play a few more years. He would be a nice 1 tech DT. He had a knee injury that has kept hi out recently but i dunno if thats not healed yet.
Flloyd is a pretty good pass-rusher/pressure guy. If ya want a space eater, Montori Hughes is available. He is probably more of a 0 tech NT, than a 1 tech, but he could help clog up the middle.
Guys I was being very sarcastic last night because of that horrible performance. I had to joke around and laugh as I watched this game. This team completely implodes at some point. What happened to the promising looking defense we saw early on? I realize we’ve lost players on offense and Osweiler is limited. So you expect the defense to keep a game close and give us a chance. Why does this defense look like it was the first time playing together so often? I’m at a loss with this team. To be honest, I don’t really care what we do moving forward. This team looks lost way too often. Even if you’re down some players, at least play spirited football. They sometimes look like it’s the first day of training camp. Very hard to watch.
As usual this too shall pass and I’ll find myself discussing how we can get better. But man this is getting really old. Sometimes you just have to laugh. It helps the frustration. LOL
I’m very frustrated too man. I feel like an idiot devoting so much of my time and effort, only to be rewarded with the same old shitty play season after season
I hear ya! I get all excited leading up to the game only to be irritated a few hours later. Why do we do this to ourselves? Like Joe Benigno once said, in my next life I don’t want to know anything about sports. LOL

Ive said this for the past few days now, i think Gase gets at least on more year, and likely 2 if he pushes the reset button at QB. They would give him 2 years to select his QB and get him going in the right direction. It would be the easiest way for Gase to buy himself more time.
What about the defense? They’re getting worse each week.
I dont think the defense needs any explanation and like you had said Burke probably doesnt survive this so im sure that could be part of the changes made. Im just saying a change a QB gives him an excuse to buy him more time.
I shot the Sharrif, but I did not shoot the deputy
Rock – I bet your Homerade is pretty flammable, burn that motherf*cker down!
I’m not so sure winning is necessary to Ross, I’m not sure how much Adam Gase makes a year but he isn’t top 10, that’s for sure and he may be at the bottom of the barrel in that regard.
so why does Ross keep hiring inexperienced coaches? could it be to save money? after all there’s a cap so saying he has an open check book is a myth.
there’s no cap on coaches so wouldn’t it be cost effective and money wise to pay as little as you can for your coaching staff?
is Ross really being cheap? is making money instead of winning football games his top priority
He tried to get John Harbaugh, he just went about it wrong. I couldn’t disagree more. I think Ross would pay anything to win.
he tried to get Jim Harbaugh, and at the time Jim Harbaugh had not been a HC in the NFL. he was going for another rookie HC, and maybe Harbaugh would have made us winners but he didn’t know that when recruiting him. why didn’t he get him? could it be due to $$$ who knows??
I don’t think Harbaugh liked how Ross was going about it knowing Sparano was still the HC.
It wasn’t money, he recruited him while Sparano was still coach, and Harbaugh didn’t like that, understandably. Yes, I should have said Jim, not John.
The year Gase took Gase, he was pretty much considered the best young coach available. I think Ross wanted to bring in a guy who could start a winning tradition with the Phins and someone that he could build around. There werent any vet coaches that year that i remember standing out. I know Philly went new with Pederson who was Reid’s OC. Koetter with TB, was a promote from within. Mularky with the Titans was a promote from within. Macadoo was a promote from within. Hue Jackson was a person a lot of people here wanted. Chip Kelley was available. I think some thought Harbaugh might be able to be pulled from college back to NFL but that wasnt happeneing.
TBH we probably took the best available. Jackson got win 3 just a couple weeks back….like since he was hired. Kelley was bad in SF and wound up having to scurry back to college. None of those other guys listed were really going anywhere else since they were taking over for the former coach that they were under.
I really dont see Ross as cheap so i really doubt thats what it is. Sometimes you ust hire the wrong people, and if it keeps ending up that way, maybe you should have someone else do the hiring lol.
He keeps hiring inexperienced HCs, why not try something different since what he keeps doing keeps failing
I dont think i could argue against that, its obvious what he has been doing isnt working. Experienced coaches though, the one that win, aren’t normally available. Its one of the most valuable positions on the team and its the hardest to find someone who can do that job well. Once ya get one you keep them.
why does he have a low paid coach now? i think Gase makes less than 3 mil per year, he’s not even in the top 20, and this team reflects that.
all NFL talent is equal, what seperates the good teams from the bad teams is coaching smarts.
I thought it was rushing yards on 1st down. JK/BB LOL
You forgot under 10 yards on first down
Sparano was a better coach than both Philbin and Gase
Probably true, but still not saying much. I think he had his players behind him. Definately seemed to have the team better than either of the other two.
if you were to keep the same personell for both teams, put Gase on new england and put bellechick on miami we would win the division.
Bum Phillips was right.
he can beat your’n with his’n and he can beat his’n with your’n
Rob – Which veteran HC is out there that you want?
Jim Harbaugh!
LOL – Me too, but why would he want to come back to the NFL?
Ya never know???
Todd Haley could be available, he has HC experience
I really think we’re stuck with Gase for 1 more year, i doubt Ross gets rid of him no matter how bad he is. it’s all about $$$$
Rob – Maybe he should begin his quest for Harbaugh after he fires Gase though . . .
ORob, if you look at a lot of the successful head coaches in the game today, most of them were first time head coaches still with the same team.
I think John Harbaugh might be a guy you could find available seeing as Newsome is retiring this year. It could be that they change over staff in a lot of ways and could be Harbaugh could be pulled with his staff to a new team. That would take a chuck of change but might be worth it. John Harbaugh isnt a great coach but he has been successful over a long span of time.
I can promise at least Orob would be happy with his offensive scheme.
McMillan is doing the same thing he did at Ohio St. Choosing the wrong fits in the run defense and he did it a lot last night.
As much as I hate saying this I think if I were Gase I’d be calling Rex Ryan today.
What? I can’t hear you with your own puke in your mouth…what was that?
Im with ya on that, i dont think i can stomach that guy on our team. Thats also a clash of personalities, i dont see Gase and he meshing well. A guy i would really like to see in the NFL is Will Muschamp, he is an amazing DC, shitty HC, but amazing DC.
Interesting thought. Not sure if he would want to be a coordinator again, but who knows?
Just keep the oreos coming and he wont say no.
I’d be on the phone with Mike Smith
He said Rex Ryan, not Teddy KGB
I would rather have His brother Rob Ryan
Not bc he’s any good
But for the “Fat Gandolf” jokes
“What happened to the promising looking defense we saw early on?”
We have issues at each level:
We lost a couple of excellent run defenders on the Dline, and our DTs aren’t getting any middle pressure on throwing downs which makes it easier to push our edge rushers down the field past the QB. It’s a domino effect.
Our LBs are still subpar, although better than the last couple of years. (How many big plays have we seen Mcmillan and Baker this year? 3? 4? Alonzo has been solid, but still can’t cover.)
Our secondary stopped getting big TOs that were bailing out the D. (How many big INTs in the redzone did we have the first 3 weeks. How many TOs the last 3-4 weeks?)
And Mccain should be playing the slot with Fitz on the boundary. I get that Fitz is excelling in the slot, but Mccain is getting his ass handed to him game after game, except for when Mctyer took his place giving up big play after big play for a couple of games.
We have way too many communication issues on D, and we give up scores too easy too often. Burke is a first time DC, and clearly isn’t good enough because we do have some talent on D. This team had given up 10 scores out of the last 11 drives BEFORE the Texans game where we gave up 6 TDs most of which were too easy.
…
As for offense…Gase flipping stinks. He abandons the run too often, and there are so many issues with his play calling, ESPECIALLY his #%$%$# situational play calling, I don’t know where to begin. I’m not going to bother.
Couple the ineptitude of our team with the arena football gameplay the league has created, throw in the standard competency issues and the corrupt score manipulating calls from the refs, and you have a product that becomes increasingly hard to watch. The season may be the football death knell for me.
Cav, I am right there. I don’t know if I will survive another rebuild. I am so jaded now anyone we hire will suck until proven otherwise. Just sell the team so I can move on.
BURN
IT
DOWN
Good vent Kong – It’s all getting so old and familiar. It’s hopeless
Kong – Maybe they’re afraid of turning Fitz into Jason Allen. lol
I thought Rex was a 3-4 guy.
Who cares at this point, that’s his forte but he knows Defense and how to get his guys up.
LOL @ your last line.
I don’t think I survived the last rebuild
You didn’t you look like hell
🐖💨
D, we need a clash of personalities wait we need personality period. At least Burke was pissed off and throwing shit. Gase never changes never does anything but let good talent walk out the door.
Cheers, guys. Just a quick stop in during lunch to vent my frustration. Even if I do quit the game, I’ll still stop in and say hi once in awhile. 🙂
I get the frustration man. Cheers!
Rex Ryan runs a 3-4 ’46’ defense, we’d have to completely change all the personnel and that would take years. Rex has had too much experience as a HC and his personality would be too much for any HC. No way he would be DC in Miami.
Mike Smith just got fired in-season by TB for a lousy defense.
Cav you echoed several things i said already so i feel like your statement was spot on and its also where i am. I think the big difference is i will never stop watching, though i might stop watching and caring if we win or lose.
I can remember when i was younger and i watched our team i just watched and loved seeing players i liked like Louis Oliver, Dan te Man, Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, etc play and do well. The outcome of the game wasnt as important to me as watching the guys i loved watching. Part of me envys that time when thats all it took for me to be satisfied.
Maybe thats where i need to get back to and just watch and let myself not care about the outcome because im certainly not having as good a time as a fan with the expectations that this will finally be our year to turn it around and it just keep failing for whatever reason (injuries, or poor performance, or bad coaching, etc).
I actually hit that point at least for that game after the second offensive score by them. There was a point and i think i actually posted on here, hu oh here is where we unravel. It seemed almost predictable and i know that i hit a point of the shit being so fucking sad it actually became kinda funny, like in a laughing on the outside crying on the inside way lol.
Im going to give myself one more week before i cancel my NFL season ticket, but doing that is essentially me giving up on the season. Ill be around, and ill talk football but i really am not going to put much effort into caring about the rest of the games. I cant find it in me to walk away from a team i have loved since i was a kid, but i can spare myself the frustration of the rest of the season if this is how its going to be every week.
I also dont care what they do for the rest of the season, this team needs a new look for next year, its sucks to think rebuild again, but im thoroughly convinced we need rebirth at QB, i think that could help reboot us in a lot of ways. I think we also need a new set of coaches, but i dont really know if that can or will happen next year. I hope we get this shit right one day, because its been a long time since i can remember being really satisfied with this team
Don’t leave here you guys. Go dark and angry I think you’ll find it quite liberating.
We’ve been giving more than we’ve been getting and the team ain’t doing fine. Let it out be free. Rejoice in your anger.
Apparently i was already dark and full of hate….
lol
Revel in it.
You can have cake!
Cam Wake isn’t signed for next year do you extend him or move on as part of the rebuild?
I lean towards keeping him at least for the mentoring aspect and the relentless effort he always give. I dont think you can have too many Cam Wakes on your team despite production.
Keep him? Not sure. What do you pay him?
Id pay him 7-8mil which is a little less than he is paid this year.
I think I’m moving on. He’s on track for 2 whole sacks this year.
I could see him retiring.
I could too but he still seems to have a good bit of want to play left.
I think because of the contract he signed it could be his last season. He’ll be 37 in January and I saw in an interview he said he has other things he wants to do in life and traveling the world was one of them. It’s just a hunch on my part.
I think venting is necessary – All of us here spend lots of time on this team, we think about it, try and come up with answers, so if you need to vent out some of the frustration that bubbles over, go ahead. I try very hard each week not to write a scathing article, to tone it down so it’s not just a bitchfest, but it gets harder each week. Soon I will hit that point.
I’m saying go beyond venting go dark, very dark. You’ve earned the right.
LOL – That may happen sooner than later
Quinn is a 12mil cap savings next year, stay or go? Id extend him but id drop his 12mil to 8 doing it.
He gone too. Not what we thought we were getting.
If Wake was willing to play for a reasonable salary in a part time role, that could work. If he wants more than that, unfortunately, it’s probably best if he does it somewhere else
So im thinking both Quinn and Wake should be about 8mil per. We can cut Quinn and recoup 12mil in cap, so id extend him and pay him 8mil but thats as much as i would pay him. If he didnt agree id cut him and move on. Wake 7-8mil would be my number too.
Branch is a 7mil cap savings, id definitely cut him.
I really hate the idea of cutting Wake or letting him go to another team. Its like when Taylor left it sucked so bad, and even worse he went to the fucking Jets. I would rather pay to keep Wake even if his pass rush numbers were there, to keep that character of player around the young ones and keep a faithful hard working long term Phin a phin than to let that be tarnished. I know thats full on fan mode shit there, but he and Jones i dont want to ever see them in another jersey.
JT went to the Redskins first, back to Miami, then to the Jets, back to Miami.
If we go towards more of a rebuild next season with younger players like much of our team is made up of, all the higher paid vets would probably be released. I think it’s time to move on from James too. He doesn’t seem to be progressing. He’s kind of the same guy he’s always been and that’s average.
I’m looking at it like a lot of you are. The team needs a facelift and a new identity. Keep the quality young players and build around them with more young players with a handful of “young” vets – 4-5 years.
There are times James looks like the best OL on our team but he struggles sometimes and it seems to be consistently with power rushers. The bigger DE’s liek Watt and Cameron Jordan of the Saints, etc, he just gets mauled by them. He is really good against the speedier guys like Mack, oddly enough, guys that most dont want to line up against.
There arent many RT’s out there on James’ level so i think he will be tough to replace. I think we should make him an offer ala Landry and just stand on our offer. If he gets better elsewhere, then thats just how it goes and we have to figure out what to do with that position. If we do let him go we have to be looking for an OL in the 2nd at least though. I dont think we can absorb his loss without really stepping up with a drafted replacement.
Maybe so, I just feel like he’s very inconsistent and has had durability issues during his career. Not sure he’s worth what he’ll be seeking on the open market.

——————————————-
I think i called you out for it early on, when you first started writing articles, i mean not in a harsh way but just as an honest critique and you definitely have responded by writing good fact representing articles with a nice level headed opinion in them. Its not that i ever though your articles were bad, nor did i full on disagree with them but you have definately come a long way in that respect and since you brought it up i thought id let you know that you are doing a good job with that.
You also dont have to worry, after you write your nice even toned article its going to be ripped to shreds with people who arent going to be even toned and they will be full on venting so you also arent preventing that by writing the articles that way. Keep doing what you are doing and leave the venting and bitching to us lol
I think everyone complements Mike on his articles. I don’t see them being received with much criticism.
I don’t think he meant it that way Tim, just that people who don’t feel even toned are going to bitch about the things they want to bitch about regardless of whether I bitch about them or not. At least that’s what I think he was saying
I just haven’t seen anyone rip anything you write to shreds.
LOL – Thanks – I get what you’re saying, I do.

I’m saying go beyond venting go dark, very dark. You’ve earned the right.

Are you on Bats payroll now? LOL
I’m his solicitor general
The summoning is upon us. LOL
You sir should let it boil over, it’s a wonderful glorious feeling.
It’s relieving but not glorious. 😉
Son, would you ever consider Brian Kelly as an NFL HC?
Until the other day yes but he’s a dumbass. Great arm, thick head.
Sorry I thought you meant the QB when I read it the first time.
Brian Kelly maybe, it’s a tough transition from college. I prefer NFL guys usually.

Don’t leave here you guys. Go dark and angry I think you’ll find it quite liberating.
We’ve been giving more than we’ve been getting and the team ain’t doing fine. Let it out be free. Rejoice in your anger.

At last… we will reveal ourselves to the foolish. At last, we will have revenge.
C’mon, y’all! Get into the Halloween spirit with your avatars, at least! 🙂
I kind of wish to go into a Rip Van Winkle sleep and someone taps me on the shoulder waking me up saying: “hey the Dolphins are really good man.” LOL
I actually experienced that to some degree in my early teens when I got into music and put sports on the back burner for a few years after playing baseball and football for many years. I still followed the Mets a bit but NFL football much less. I wasn’t into the NBA and NHL much back then. More on that another day.
My close friends and I meshed with another clan of friends freshman year of HS and they were all sports fans and we all loved the same music. We’re still all friends to this day and 10 of us are who make up our FF league of 30 years.
I asked one of my good friends from the other clan in 1984 who is a sports nut, hey how are the Dolphins doing? His reply was they’re good and they have this really amazing young QB. He hated the Dolphins but couldn’t deny how good he was. Myself and my closest friend who was also a Dolphins fan growing up, and also going through the musical sabbatical, were like really?
Dan Marino became our football salvation that brings me to where we are today. 🙂
You missed the Woodstrock years then.
Remember living in NJ it was hard to see many Miami games. Broadcasts are obviously so much different now. I do remember going to another musician friend’s house to watch the Dolphins/Redskins SB in 82/83. I posted about how I became a Dolphins fan on the other blog years ago and when a few of our players left for the World League I was pissed off as a kid. That kind of started it. A few years later it was KISS, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath etc. LOL
Well If you look back I said 8-8 with some clunkers!
I might have over-estimated??? 😦
You did say that
At least he’s honest. He doesn’t hide his feelings. Football is not that complicated. At the end of the day it’s about playing your man and competing.
My avi says Dolphins I don’t know what to do to make it any scarier
Lol!
I’ll twist your back so you’ll never get out of bed again!
Zelda still give me the creeps… even after all these years, and KNOWING my friend played the role.
I now know what Rock has been talking about. The past week or so I’ve been getting logged out of here and not able to get logged in again. Then all of a sudden, like now, without using my password I’m already logged in. WTF?
That said, we SUCK! Probably better I’ve not been able to say anything. 😂
I’ve had issues where I can’t post anything. Then it tells me I already said that. I have to close the window, go back and change some words to get it to not be a duplicate post. I don’t think it’s personal like Rock makes it out to be. LOL
It literally just happened again but then I tried again and I’m already in. Crazy! Only happens on my phone.
LOVE your avi, Mike E!!! Much respect!!! Andy would approve!!!
Do you know who mine is?
Tim,
Love your avi, too! As a matter of fact, I was just teaching my nephew about Betelgeuse, the star.
It’s too cloudy to observe the stars here tonight, but he REALLY wanted to see the galaxy.
It’s not Betelgeuse. I have used that before though. This is Otis from House of 1000 Corpses by Rob Zombie. Obviously I added the Dolphins cap. LOL
Ooops! My bad. I thought it was “Beetlejuice”, with hair and cap added by you.
I work with a guy who is ALL ABOUT movies. He tells me that a new “Beetlejuice” is in the works (don’t know if it’s a re-make, reboot, or continuation), a new re-make of “Pet Semetary” is in the works, and a re-make of “The Stand” is in the works.
Border WAR!!!!!!!!!!

I have been having the same issue about getting logged out and having difficulty logging back in
Hulk need scary costume?
No… Hulk is already dressed to ROCK!
Wyoming, LOVE your avi, too!
I kind of wish to go into a Rip Van Winkle sleep and someone taps me on the shoulder waking me u
You ever see the movie “click” with Adam Sandler? (I don’t like him) Don’t wish your life away.
I think we need to look at it this weekend,” Gase said. “And really look at it – is it scheme, are we not executing what we’re asking them to do, do we have five guys who are off as far as what we are asking them to do, do we like what we’re doing? We need to really dig deep and figure out where are these issues coming from. Is it the same guy every time?” – Gase
If you like what you are doing then you need to be locked iup,not just fired.

My Avi is radioactive Kool aid. Drink some…..I dare you.
I took that dare
I had some of that….saw stars….awesome stuff
I think you stop screwing around and build for 3 years from now. I have no desire to keep any of the older guys like Wake or Quinn. Why? They won’t be worth having when this team may be close to competitive. Start building around the young guys. The defense is getting close. The offense, well, there’s some work to be done.
***
Problem is: if they keep Gase next year, there’s no way in hell he goes in for a blow up and rebuild….unless Ross says he’s gonna keep him thru that rebuild process. I think that would be a bad idea. I’ve had enough of Gase. He hasn’t shown much progress as a HC, and I don’t like where he’s heading. 8-8 may as well be 4-12 to me. They both suck ass.
What I learned today.
ORob doesnt like that Ross went after Harbaugh, but at same time wants Harbaugh.
Mike E’s articles suck but nobody will tell him.
Bat has a whole bunch of new minions.
And its Halloween avi time.
Lol, that Is funny
you’re right, he keeps going after HCs that have no HC experience, At the time he didn’t know Harbaugh would be a great NFL coach.
do you think i could come in your restaurant and take over the kitchen? I have no experience making sushi, I might be able to pull a jim harbaugh and make your kitchen great but most likely i would pull a philbin or gase learning on the job would set your restaurant back.
nothing like experience

_________________________________________
The only problem with that is …I’m running out of… “3 years from now”
we are not necessarily out of contention, we just have to pull it together and get a win
Our record says we’re still in contention. Our play recently says we’re heading for last place, and maybe a top 10 pick
I’m not sure why Gase calls the plays he does, he has no clue of percentages, what play works a high number of times in regards to down and distance.
you don’t call a play that may have a 50% success rate when you have plays for that same situation that are 99% effective such as the 4th and 1 call on the first drive. which killed that drive. we gave the ball back and didn’t get any points out of it.
#1 run a QB sneak, get use to that, practice that, know that you’re going to call that play in certain situations.
#2 if you are against a QB sneak for some reason have Gore line up as a FB and let him pound the middle.
that’s it, those are your 2 choices for 3rd or 4th and 1.
these are high percentage plays and more than not you will pick up the 1st and extend the drive.
Gase doesn’t know this!
this scenario cost us the Cincy game and may have cost us the texans game who knows how that game would have went if we scored a TD on that 1st drive instead of giving the ball back to them, as for cincy the 3rd and 1 lame pass to Stills changed the whole reflection of that game.
No game for us Sunday and we already lost. That sucks . . .
Another TNF by product
but we get a long rest, a mini bye to try to figure out the problems and fix them so it may be a blessing in disguise.
I have the login issue often on my phone. I try not to blog from my phone, it’s annoying enough without that issue.
You’re looking kind’ve Ill, are you sick?
I never have any issues. I never log out. Always ready to annoy you people.
Rob – Yeah, it’s my back. lol
Rob – We need a mini bar, not a mini bye.
I got nothing.
I will say I don’t think Gase has shown he can be a leader of men but I could be wrong. I will also say if I was Ross and I was leaning towards keeping him for next season, I would insist he turn over play calling to someone else. He does not seem to get how to react offensively or manage things as the game unfolds, and that criticism is valid whether they are in the lead, behind, or close score-wise.
He doesn’t ever really seem to have an answer to anything when an opposing team finds a weakness. That drives me crazy. Good to see you Wil
What’s up Trypod
Good to see you
ORob, did you see my post that most of the successful head coaches currently in the league were first time head coaches and they are still with their first team. There are very few veteran retread HCs.
This Team has no heart and no defense. Dolphins won’t win another game until they play defense.
And just like I said last week, but Fins shoulda drafted Watson, he is more intelligent than RT?
I won’t revisit the shoulda kept Miller argument, did that before, but Miller hasn’t retired yet, so we are still stuck with the problem of not retaining talent, and can’t stop the same talent when they move on
The losses are piling up quickly, a once promising season squandered once again by ineptitude on all parts. I keep thinking one year it will change, and maybe it will, but it’s painfully obvious it’s along ways off in the future.
Randy, our defense is getting close? Close to what? This Defense has looked horrible two weeks straight. I don’t think defense is anywhere close to championship level, even mediocre seems a stretch in light of the defenses weakly errr weekly regression.
Johnson had 158 yards rushing against us last week, and Miller had, I forgot, somewhere north of 130, and Watson tied a career high of 5 TD passes! Wtf!
This is some of our worst defense of all time, almost total collapse
Wow ER, No one will tell Mike E his articles still suck?, that’s a bit harsh, and for the record the reason I don’t say they suck is because I don’t believe they do.
Mike E articles are just fine IMO, it’s not his fault the team sucks and can’t come close to matching what the article wrote.
The Fins need to improve their game, then I’m thinking Mike’s articles might have something good to report on at that time.
Mike E knows that was joking.
Ok good to hear 😎
To bad Trevor Lawrence is a freshman or I’d say lets tank the season and draft him. He is going to be very good in the NFL IMO. Kid is accurate and has a gun!
Just a freshman but looks like he has the “It” factor
