Rebuilding and the Dolphins Coaching Search

So much drama surrounding the Dolphins Head Coach search, and also the with the philosophy of a rebuild here in Miami. First things first. Chris Grier, not Steve Ross will be choosing the new Head Coach. Grier is complete charge of football operations, and he’s the guy making the decisions. If you think Steve Ross will be meddling with the decision, that’s on you.

Is a rebuild such a bad thing? What really is a rebuild? I’d say there are probably a lot of different ways to rebuild something. If you replace the short block of an engine, that’s considered a rebuild, but the whole unit wasn’t rebuilt. I think for the Dolphins, what we’re going to do is not make the same mistakes we’ve made in the past few years. Flash back to 2015, when we signed Ndamukong Suh for a 6 YR $114M contract. Great player at a premium position, but we weren’t one player away, and honestly, Suh never flourished here. No more huge contracts for 1 player.

It’s more than just Suh though, it’s going for the quick fix. In 2017 when we lost Ryan Tannehill, we should have soldiered on with what we had, rather than pay Jay Cutler $10M. I wanted the quick fix, but it was selfish, and foolish, and it was a poor use of cap money. That’s what needs to change here. Getting rid of Mike Pouncey was a start in the right direction, and in the off season, the purge should continue. Robert Quinn ($12.9M), Andre Branch ($7M), Devante Parker ($9.4M) should all be purged. Cam Wake, who we all love shouldn’t even be considered for a re-sign. Let him go win a championship somewhere else.

Besides just outright cutting players, I think we should trade a couple of players. The most obvious one is Ryan Tannehill, and his market is completely undetermined. Not sure if we can recoup any more than a late round pick, like a 5th or later, but all it takes is one team that really wants him, and we can possibly do better. I know a couple of you here are tired of this one, but you guys aren’t focusing long term, you’re still fantasizing about success next season. I’d trade Reshad Jones for what I believe could be a 3rd RD pick to a team who needs that veteran presence and maybe is a player or 2 away from what they believe is a championship. It’s a minor cap savings, but we have 3 safeties in T.J. McDonald, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Reshad Jones, and T.J. won’t bring back the bounty of a 3rd RD pick. When you have numerous holes during a rebuild, you don’t keep a glut of talent at one position, it doesn’t make sense.

We’re trying to become a team that not only has a younger roster, but one that will have lots of cap space for flexibility. No more big FA contracts, and certainly no high priced FA contracts to older players. Quinn was a trade, but that 4th RD pick we gave to the Rams, plus the salary we had to pay Quinn was a loss for us. Maybe that’s part of the reason MTP is now banished from the kingdom.

As for the Head Coach, I don’t have a horse in this race. I like certain things about each of the candidates, but I don’t feel like any of them are the a clear cut choice. It’s probably silly to not want Brian Flores from the Patriots, but former Patriots coaches that left NE and became HC’s have had dreadful results. Romeo Crennel (28-55), Josh McDaniels (11-17), Matt Patricia (6-10), and Eric Mangini (33-47). Of course none of this means Brian Flores won’t succeed, but whatever qualifications any of those coaches had, the success of the New England Patriots is on the shoulders of Bill Belichick.

I love Darren Rizzi’s passion, fire, and respect the fact that his unit has been consistently very good. I don’t have a clue as to what his offensive and defensive philosophies are. They might be good ones, but we don’t know. Kris Richard was the defensive backs coach and then coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks for the “Legion of Boom” era. You have to love that. We don’t know what his plan is on offense, and we don’t know how he is at game planning and handling the entire roster. I feel that whatever HC we hire, it would be great if we could get some continuity going, but that requires patience. Would Ross accept 3 losing seasons and continue on for the sake of continuity?

Last night driving home, I was listening to Bill Polian, and unfortunately, just caught the tail end of the discussion, but what I did hear was Polian saying that teams like Dolphins, Bucs, Cardinals are in a pattern of failure, and are setting themselves up for such every time they make a coaching change. He’s right. We all hunger for it, yet each time we do it, it sets the team back a couple of years. The best teams like the Patriots, Steelers, Packers, Ravens have had the same Head Coach for 5 or more years, which keeps the same system in place, and allows a team to continue to build the roster with a particular style, rather than flushing players every few years that don’t match the new regimes style. Polian said what the Dolphins, Bucs are doing is a “Self fulfilling prophecy”. He’s right.

If we’re going to pick a Head Coach, I think we as fans have to try and be patient, but more importantly, Steve Ross does. He has to block out what the media wants, what the fans want, and just let the HC build something. In retrospect, I think we may have cut Gase too soon, although I didn’t like him, and hated the way he got along with players, maybe he deserved more time. Too late now, but hopefully this time, we don’t make that same mistake.

Seems some of the misunderstanding is “Deep South” the culture and South the direction. Never knew it before I moved here, but the farther North you go in Florida the more “South” you get.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i’m from Miami, back then it is much different than today. osceola county is where the sugar cane farms are I think? lots of immigrants, to me the deep south is mississippi and alabama, they had a lot of lynchings back then, not so in s fl.

      • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

ORob – Osceola County was, and largely still is, all about cattle ranches and orange groves.

  2. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

if we trade tannehill pre june 1 we are still hit with a 13 mil dead money, i’m just wondering how that affects the team we trade him too? does that team get to renegotiate Tanny? or will they be on the hook for his 2019 salary, that would make him difficult to trade with less value.
if they were able to get him and renegotiate that makes his worth higher in draft comp.
if you look at the list of fa qbs it is pathetic, there are only 15 teams in this league with good qbs the rest are sub par, tanny may be more valuable than we think.

    https://overthecap.com/player/ryan-tannehill/717/

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Only way they can renegotiate salary is if they pick him up as a FA if we cut him. In a trade, his salary is guaranteed and stays the same. Regardless, we should try and get something for Tannehill in a trade, even if it’s a 5th RD pick.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

so why then are we on the hook for the 13 mil if we trade him to another team, are they on the hook as well or do they get him with no cap hit?

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

if we can trade him with no cap hit for the other team he is a valuable commodity.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

The dead money is all pro-rated signing bonus. That’s on us no matter what and already paid. Right now in a trade we would be offering Tanny at $18 mil for 2019 and $19 mil in 2020 non-guaranteed.

If Tanny is willing to renegotiate for less then that would make him more attractive in a trade, but that would be up to him. And his agent knows that if we cut him he’ll be a FA.

  3. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

the only thing we have to worry about as far as the cap goes is to not sign any long term FAs, build with the draft and when you get a young enough team and you have max cap then you fill in the pieces with the top shelf FAs, kind’ve what cleve has done

  4. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rob – That’s his dead cap hit, so that money is on us no matter what, but better to only have $13M on our books instead of over $26M, right? Especially if he won’t be our QB next season anyway

  5. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

The 13 mil that would be dead cap is bonus money he already got, we’re on the hook for that. If we trade or release him we save the 13 that would be salary for ‘19.

  6. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

accoding to over the cap, if we trade him we are still on the hook for the 13 mil in dead money, my question is, what is the team we trade him to on the hook for?

because if they are not on the hook for his 2019 salary that makes him a valuable asset

    https://overthecap.com/player/ryan-tannehill/717/

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

      $18 mil for 2019 and $19 mil in 2020 non-guaranteed

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

he is scheduled to make 26 mil in 2019, 13 of that will be paid by Miami so if another team picks him up in a trade they should only be on the hook for 13 mil correct?

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

26 mil is his cap hit a team that got him in a trade would only have to pay the salary, and that is what it is. Dead money is greater cause the pro-ration of bonus money is spread over the net two years, but have to take the cap hit on it all at once if he is cut or traded/

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

        so 26 minus 13 is 13…..

  7. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

what would the redskins give for tannehill?

  8. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

maybe the other team would be on the hook for the remainder of his 26 mil 2019 contract which would be 13 mil, still a bargain.
if we do trade tanny i think he’s more valuable than a 5th or 4th.

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Not really because the team trading for him would be on the hook for his bloated contract. And he stinks.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

the team would be on the hook for 13 mil,
as far as QBs go have you seen the FA list? they stink!
Tanny if he were a FA would be at the top of the list right behind Foles.

  9. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Stanger, not sure how you are coming up with your 18 and 19 mil numbers??
Tanny is scheduled to make 26 mil in 19 & 25 mil in 20, with only 13 mil guaranteed,

so if we trade him pre june 1 we are on the hook for the 13 mil, and the team that trades for him would be on the hook for the other 13mil or so that’s my understanding of the situation…

    • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

He’s scheduled to count $26 M against the cap, not make $26 M. The $26 M is his base salary plus the prorated signing bonus that he has already been paid.

  10. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m under the impression that if you trade a player the new team takes the cap hit

its only when you cut a player that dead cap money is relevent

  11. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

If they cut RT and designate it a post June 1 cut, the cap hit drops to $7 M. I agree with ORob on two points: 1) Ross wants to cut the cord and doesn’t care about the cap hit, and 2) RT is the going to be the second most accomplished QB on the market after Foles.

  12. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

if Miami were to keep Tannehill they would only have to pay him 13 mil, why would that be different if we traded him to another team?

    • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

It wouldn’t. Miami will pay him $13 M no matter what else happens.

      https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/miami-dolphins/cap/2019/

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

so if we traded him to the Redskins for a 2nd rnd pick, we would pay him 13 mil and the redskins would be on the hook for the other 13 for his 2019 26 mil contract correct?

      • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

From above: He’s scheduled to count $26 M against the cap, not make $26 M. The $26 M is his base salary plus the prorated signing bonus that he has already been paid.

      • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

That post was not accurate. Miami won’t pay him $13 M no matter what else happens. That’s the cap hit due to already paid prorated bonuses. His base salary is not guaranteed, so if they cut him, that doesn’t get paid.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Rob same answer as before as to what a team trading on him would get as far as contract “$18 mil for 2019 and $19 mil in 2020 non-guaranteed.”

The $13 mil is as to us. It is his prorated bonus for those two years. And if we keep him this year, there will still be $5.5 mil left going into 2020.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

minus the prorated bonus…. which is 13 mil that he’s already been paid,

if we cut him the rest of that is not guaranteed and the 13 mil bonus money will hit our cap,
if we keep him we will have to give him the additional 13 mil to complete his 2019 contract.
so would any other team we trade him too

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

      His total salary is $26,611,666
      $18,725,000 Base salary + $2.3M signing bonus +$25K workout bonus + $5,561,666 restructure bonus = $26,611,666

  13. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rob – YES, the full $26,611,666

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

so why would another team have to pay him 18 mil as Stanger has said???
wouldn’t they just have to pay the 13 mil like we would have to do in 2019??

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

        Not $18M, $13,188,332

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

ORob — are you just playing with us at this point? Read up stream and even if not in one concise package the answers are there.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

“up stream” when you are throwing out 18 mil numbers with no reasoning it’s hard to understand, you may be right but Mike doesn’t think so.

  14. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

The $5,561,666 restructure bonus has already been paid as has the $2.3M signing bonus. The total bonuses are prorated over the life of the contract, so if they cut him they would still be on the hook for next years chunk as well. That’s where the $13 M comes from – $5,561,666 this year, $5,561,666 next year, and $2.3M signing bonus this year.

  15. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I keep seeing you guys projecting your anti-tannehill negativism onto the team. “Ross wants to cut the cord” “Grier can’t wait to move him” I must remind you guys that this is YOUR ANGST not the team’s opinion of him. I challenge any of you to show me a quote from Ross or Grier saying ANYTHING CLOSE to what you guys keep parroting. You are projecting your feelings onto someone else when you have no idea what will happen.

Grier is on record saying he thinks Tannehill is a good QB and you don’t know what the next HC will say….

When it is all done you can say “told you so” but not until then unless you can find an article to the contrary.

  16. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

if we keep him we will have to give him the additional 13 mil to complete his 2019 contract.
No – It is already been paid. It’s just cap accounting. When they extended his contract, they converted X-number of dollars from guaranteed money, which counts against that year’s cap, to a signing bonus, which can be spread out over the length of the contract reducing the cap hit for that year.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

And the base salary is what the player gets in game checks as long as you are still on the roster, any roster.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I get that, and if we release him we are hit with 13 mil against our cap, that’s it see ya later Tanny, however if we were to keep him we would need to give him the additional 13 mil to meet his 2019 contract, so my question is, if we trade him wouldn’t the other team have to do the same?

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

If we trade him the new team would be on the hook for his base salary plus whatever remaining incentives there are. If we keep him we pay him his base salary and have his 2020 pro-rated bonus left as dead money. We cut or trade him we pay the 2019 and 2020 pro-ration all at once…. and that is the $13 mil.

  17. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

if another team has to shell out 18 mil for Tannehill he would have to be their starter and that would make him not worth that much in the trade market as far as compensation goes.

if Miami is moving on from Tannehill they probably will just release him.

  18. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Couldn’t agree with this more . . .

    ▪ Why did Pro Football Focus rate Tannehill lowest among all qualifying NFL quarterbacks?

PFF cites several factors — lack of big plays downfield and too many balls that should have resulted in turnovers that didn’t, including six dropped interceptions.

“The reality is that Tannehill owes a lot of his production to his pass-catchers’ ability to add yards after the catch,” PFF said.

His passer rating, 20th in the league, would have been lower without big yards after catch numbers from Albert Wilson, Kenyan Drake and others. And his poor pocket presence was exposed, becoming an increasing irritant to Dolphins people as the season drew to a close.

    • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

I don’t think so. Another one-year starter. I think they wait for the 2020 draft. Better prospects and more of them.

    • D's avatar D says:

Thats a little rich for me, id trade a future first and this years 1st. But i dont think id give up two 2nds. maybe some later rounds like 4ths.

      • D's avatar D says:

If the new coach wants Haskins and Grier wants Haskins, id mortgage some future picks for sure. I dont really think its necessary though. We can sit put and get a good QB, or trade up but with less costs and get a good prospect. I really dont see Haskins as head and shoulders above all the rest. He’s probably the top prospect, but its pretty close with a few of the others.

  21. D's avatar D says:

The reason a trade doesnt get us all his cap back is that we cant do a trade until the beginning of the next football year. By that time his bonuses are all due, so we pay those regardless. For next year thats 13.4 mil. The rest of the 26.6 is salary, and its ot guaranteed if they cut him before game 2 maybe? i cant remember that number exactly. We can trade him after the beginning of the new football year, recoup the 13.2 and the team that receives him picks up the contract after that, so they would pay him the 13.2.

If we trade/cut him as a post June 1, we still have to pay him the prorated amount of his signing bonus, but we push the rest of the guaranteed money to 2020. We would only take a 7.8mil dead money hit this year but we would carry dead money in 2020 that we wouldn’t if we just took out hit up front and traded or cut him before June 1st.

The before or after June 1st designation doesnt change how much dead money you take, it just shifts it back a year and gives you less up front to deal with. Since our cap space doesnt look that great right now it may be an option for them to create more this year, but i have never been a fan of carrying debt further down the line.

    • D's avatar D says:

Just to point it out again, the amount of dead money carried, the amount of savings, etc is all the same in both scenarios, and the other team still picks up his next year salary, etc., it just is a shifting of the dead money from oup front for all of it to a pushed back a year for some of it.

  22. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

In 2019, we’re still paying dead cap hits on Suh, it will be $13.1M

  23. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think jettisoning Suh was the right move, now we finally erase another mistake by trading Tannehill.

    • D's avatar D says:

I think giving up on Suh should have been a sign of we need to reboot and when they made that decision, they should have also ditched the win now thing an cleaned up shit right then. We dumped and didn’t resign too many of out top guys to have still fucked around with trying to win now. Thats really where we fucked up and that likely was Gase’s decision and its likely why he got fired.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yes of course, but the coaches I mentioned are guys who were/are first time HCs meaning they weren’t HCs in the NFL prior to where they are now.

    HOOOORAAAAHHH!!! Jim Cadwell offense!

ALLEN PARK — No offense has scored fewer points per game than the Detroit Lions this season, but coach Jim Caldwell continues to defend his team’s scheme.

Asked why he believes in a system that is averaging just 321 yards and fewer than 15 points, Caldwell said his confidence comes from a history of success.

“It’s not something that’s revolutionary,” Caldwell said as the Lions prepare to host the Bears on Sunday. “A lot of the things we run have been around football for a long time and are proven to work. That’s why I believe in it, because they do work. The scheme does work, the concepts do work. We’ve just got to make it work more consistently……

Um no Jim, they USED to work that’s why your offensive production sucked and you got fired.

    PP,
I am guilty of misuse of quotation marks. I was attempting to say being in South Florida and being in the deep South are not really the same thing, having lived there for the better part of 25 years and also having lived in Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, and having countless relatives from various other “Red States”. I was also agreeing with Tim that it does have a certain irony to it (assuming that it comes to fruition).

  57. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

  58. Phins meeting with Jordan Ta’amu for quite a while after practice today is kind of interesting. He’s an interesting prospect at qb. Has all the tools you’d want. With the right qb coach he could be something in a couple years.

  59. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Maybe Flores knows he will be our HC, even though that is not supposed to be official at this point. But not one NFL rule there is stops him from picking up the phone and starting to assemble his staff.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m sure he’s already contacted quite a few of his candidates.

    • D's avatar D says:

I think you, if you are going for a HC position assemble a staff or at least the coordinators and other key people before you get the job so you can present it as part of your interview. I cant see going into an interview ofr a HC job with nothing plotted out

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Agreed — no doubt if went into the Phins interview would say “Tim, D, Mike E, ORob, Hulk, Pig and David will be my top coaching guys.” Same time, would just be thoughts cause couldn’t lock them down on a maybe…. plus who on that list in their right mind would want to work for me? 🙂

      • D's avatar D says:

If you were offering a chance for a coaching position in the NFL all of us lol

  63. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Caldwell was one the three coaches that Flores mentioned in his interview as potential OC. The other two have already been hired by other teams.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah potential HC candidates go into the interview with a list of potential asst. coaches. Usually once the HC picks his coordinators – they then pick their asst. coaches.

    • D's avatar D says:

      This is what i saw.
“A league source confirmed to Yahoo Sports that Jim Caldwell will likely join Flores’ staff. But it’s not likely that Caldwell will be offensive coordinator — instead, it will be more of an assistant head coach and advisory role, someone who can be a sounding board for the 37-year-old Flores, an experienced guide through the sometimes choppy waters of leading an NFL team.”

  64. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

So I’m driving home and listening to NFL radio and they report that Jim Caldwell will be joining Miami Dolphins Head Coach Brian Flores. Just like that, not potential HC, they report it like he’s already under contract. Funny how that works . . .

  65. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Not just us anymore. Headline just hit my screen — “Adam Gase’s crazy eyes were the true star of his Jets news conference.”

    T. J. Hockenson….TE from Iowa….is going into the draft. Draft that kid!!

  69. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,
No, the guys I pick to draft are actually good players! Lol

  70. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
I said the other day. If the Dolphins had let me draft, we’d have a defensive backfield of Desmond King, Xavien Howard, Reshad Jones and Derwin James. You like that? You like that!!?? Im not just an OL pretty face, but I’d have drafted about 15 of them. Lol
    ***
And, we wouldn’t have wasted 7 years on Tannehill. Lol

    • I didn’t like what I saw from Derwin James yesterday, I didn’t watch his every move,

but I couldn’t help seeing him get burned and out of position on some big plays .

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Randy, okay on Desmond King but he and James didn’t exactly have good games yesterday. I’m fine with Minkah. I think in the long run he’ll be the better cover guy, James is real good around the LOS.

  71. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    stanger,
It’s okay. Everybody wants the pretty boy, offensive genius with his own PR agency these days. I can’t compete.

  72. Agreed that south fl is Nothing like the Deep South states .
I got a glmpse of Flores yesterday, and He was calling the defensive plays.
No one knows if he is the answer or not, but He’s got a good a chance as any at this point.

The real problem with Gase was his ego and attitude rubbed certain players the wrong way. There are at least 10 Solphins that didn’t see eye to eye with him.

He wil have to eat some humble pie to be successful in NY, but that’s his problem.
Yes, he had to go, because a coach that can’t get ALL the players on his side, isn’t what We need.
Flores comes from a humble beginning, and worked His way up, He could be just what we need.

Playoffs have been interesting, but next year We need to be a part of it imo.
Draft a potential franchise QB, and let’s give Flores someone to get started with

  73. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

so it looks like Flores is the man, but what if that is a smokescreen, nah I know it’s a done deal, but this new assistant GM is from the same program as Eric Bieniemy.

    hmmm

  74. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    David,
James is a rookie. He gets a little overly aggressive sometimes, but I think he’s gonna be an elite FS for years.

  75. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

also might we be looking at Mike Kafka QB coach for KC for our new OC?

  76. the Rams won 4’games last year, and now they are looking like they might go to a super bowl, at the very least the NFC championship game.

That’s a huge improvement over 4 wins last year, and they are doing it the old school way, run the ball often with 2 backs, Gurley, and Anderson, they have a young franchise QB that should only improve, and they play solid defense.

That’s what it takes Mr Gase, run the ball, have a franchise QB, and a top notch defense.
We were 0 for 3 in these categories, but hopefully FO watches the playoffs too , and see what it takes to get there

  77. James is from Haines City, have to give folks from Haines City extra time to um well, lol

I sure hope for his sake he’s nothing like the folks in Haines City

  78. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

taking off from what David said …
What an absolute steal that was for the Rams to get Anderson.
    5’8 225
Did we not try to sign that guy?
    oh well
with Gase calling plays, he would’ve not had such success

  79. The reason I brought up the Rams is because they have proven it doesn’t take years and years to improve, improvement can come quickly if the right moves are made.

I have been reading articles about the Dolphins are years away, and may have to endure a 3 win season or two before We can load up and rebuild, and maybe someday in our grandkids future, blah blah blah.

It doesn’t take years or decades to build a competitive team IMO.
Just get a franchise QB in here, beef up the OL and DL, get solid coaching, and improvement could happen quickly.
Flores is a bit of a wild card, We don’t know exactly what We will get as far as wins or playoff appearances, but if we don’t get a QB , and beef up our ol, DL, and play better defense, then Flores will suffer the same fate as Gase.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You can turn things around in 2 years if you do it the right way and have some good fortune – like finding your QB and having a few late rd picks pan out as great finds. Rebuilding doesn’t always mean you’re terrible. Just not good enough to go very far.

  80. Anyone notice that Gurley and Anderson had huge holes to run through? I sure did.
We need better blockers upfront, after watching the playoff teams OL, I know We don’t have what they have

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

3 of their 5 OL are 30, 33 and 36. That team came together very well with good timing. Let’s hope we have that happen sooner than later. 🙂

      • When You can block like that, almost everything works, unless Gurley trips in an open hole, lol not likely

The world is your oyster when You can dominate upfront, and have multiple backs getting hundreds of yards and a few scores
and the QB has time to stand upright , look for some targets, without defenders in his face all day breaking important parts of his anatomy

  81. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

David, that’s why as we rebuild this team around our quality youth we need to focus on the trenches so when we find our QB he can be successful, not running for his life or being behind in every game.

  84. The jets might be a tougher win now, Gase will know most of our players , what they can and cannot do, and he can scheme up some mismatches.
Of course He doesn’t know our plays or schemes, no one knows that yet until Flores gets his staff assembled and next year begins.
And he won’t know much of our new players We will surely have next year.

I see him having a slight advantage against us, nothing We can’t overcome, but the Jets might not be an easy two wins a year anymore, we will have to BRING IT 😎

  85. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    David,
Life is also easier when you have a QB who can back the defense off by actually throwing and completing passes down the field. All parts have to work together.

    • Much agreed, the playoff teams are making me a little envious I must admit. Lol. I Hope we get there soon.

Why did they draft QB, OL, and everything they needed,
while we brought in overpriced FA, that isn’t play well or last, and blew draft picks on players that were either busts, or were a bunch of puzzle pieces that didn’t fit together?

  86. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I’m not sure Gase knew our players when he was coaching here. Lol And since when are the Jets 2 easy wins for us each year?

  87. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    Tim,
105 tackles. 3.5 sacks. 13 passes defended. 3 INTs. James can cover just fine. He’s a do it all safety.

  91. We can’t forget the jets are the same franchise that thought butt fumble guy was their guy at QB, lol

They will screw something up, stay tuned.
I could see them bringing in head cases Antonio brown and Laveon bell in, and Gase can’t work with them, lmao o well

If he’s not on some kind of drug, I’d be surprised. Half the internet is buzzing about Gase’s presser today thinking he’s on something. And should that be the case, I hope he gets the help he needs.

  94. What the heck is up with Gase, I have never seen him look like this before.

He sure doesn’t look excited to be there, wow. I wonder if the jets fans and players are noticing this.

I would not like our new coach coming in looking like he’s fucked up on shrooms or from Haines City, lol

Yes they are, already heard from friends who are Jets fans. It’s nothing new. We’ve all seen it before. Gase has crazy eyes. LOL

  95. I think the jets made yet another mistake. Gase doesn’t have what it takes to be a HC imo

I don’t want to speculate, but I will say that none of what Foerster did, or what I see in Gase is what this team needs.

I’m glad Gase is not our HC
