  21. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

ORob – the difference between 18 and 20/21 is negligible. And we put 18 year old kids into combat. So putting one into football isn’t special.

If you did away with the 3 year rule, universities wouldn’t make so much money. They would truly field student athletes.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I think it’s impossible for the MLB to definitively judge intent, and at the same time you can’t let plays like these go, so the suspension makes perfect sense in my mind.

I know it’s off topic but notice the question marks.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I can tell you I personally don’t get rid of Stills, he’s scored more TDs as a Dolphin than all the others combined. Last year he scored only one less TD than Wilson, Grant, and Parker combined. I keep Wilson because he may be the best of the lot if he returns healthy, and I keep Grant for his potential.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Assuming these guys are locks, we need to see the rooks play before we can possibly know who makes the team.

  29. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    ORob,

For me, Parker is the interesting one on that list. I would have been ok with them letting him walk this year. He’s been nothing but fools gold since we drafted him. That being said, we’ve had a litany of clowns coaching this team, so maybe this staff will be able to tap his potential and we see marked improvement this year. Fingers crossed.

  33. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Kong, Parker has the ability to put up good numbers but he just can’t stay healthy. Something is always nagging him. Would love to see what he can do when healthy.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

He’s put up some good numbers a few times, but I’m not convinced he’ll ever be anything close to what we hoped he might (a stud #1). Even when healthy he disappears for games at a time. It’s just hard to know if it’s him, coaching or the QB. Either way, he gets another shot this year. I’m hoping we see him turn the corner.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s just it he’s rarely healthy but he plays through it sometimes and I don’t think we see a healthy Parker very much. This is a big year for his career or he might find himself bouncing around the league.

One thing we know for sure is this team is going to have a different look this year regardless of results. Not much will be the same. I still think too many people are underrating this roster’s potential.

    • TryPod's avatar TryPod says:

Maybe, but it’s fairly impossible to give a value to “potential”.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Then why draft or make trades? Isn’t potential what it’s all about? How else do you build a team?

      • TryPod's avatar TryPod says:

I was replying to “I still think too many people are underrating this roster’s potential.” How do you assign a value to the unknown? And each of the other teams have some level of potential. I guess if you think the value of the potential on the Dolphin’s roster is more than other rosters, you might be able to. I just don’t know, with all the change this year, that I feel any kind of confidence in anything until it translates to on the field.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

you either make the plyoffs or you don’t, i’d rather be 1-15 vs 9-6 and not make the post season, so who cares what others think about the state of this franchise.
it can’t get any worse and from what i’ve seen so far i’m enthusiastic about the current regime. i love the TNT (takes no talent) wall!

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

TNT is a way of saying “go stand in the corner dumbass” there’s now a consequence and a public humiliation for screwing up.

        i love it!

      • TryPod's avatar TryPod says:

  36. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

    kONG/TIMMY
, i’ve never liked Stills, i had noticed his routine of avoiding contact, true he’s fast and a deep threat but he’s a liability in blocking.

  37. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i think you need big strong WRs that can run routes and block, we have too many fast little guys it would be nice to have Parker on one side and Preston Williams on the other (if he’s as good as they say he is) with a blend of speed at the slot.
out of grant…wilson and stills, i would dump stills,
we also have this guy Irvin who is suppose to be the next amendola.
it will be interesting to see out final 6.

  38. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

as for Parker i just think he needs to stay healthy.

  39. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Westbrook to the Rockets, a swap for Chris Paul and two 1st rnd picks, why would OKC make that move? they still have a max contract on their books, a difficult player to get along with.and he’s 34! 3 years left on his contract and he’s always hurt, the 1st rnders won’t be that great either because the Rockets will be at the bottom of the draft for a while.

  40. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

there will be a great FA market in 2021, and the Heat will be prime players with their expiring contracts, hold what you got Riley, whatever you do stay away from Chris Paul!

  41. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

on the other hand Bradley Beal would be a great addition but i fear we would have to take on Walls salary as well to make that happen.

  42. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we could dump stills and get hit with 6m dead money this year but save 3m on our cap, next year it’s 1m in dead money, so i would think they have to make a decision on him one way or another by march.

i say trade him and get a pick.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Let’s trade him after the season. His problem to me is he doesn’t catch enough passes in the intermediate range. You would think with his speed he’d be able to get open more often cutting those deep routes off.

  43. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

“…we have too many fast little guys…”

Rob, I agree with the idea we need more than fast little guys at WR, but I disagree with getting rid of the only WR on the team that has proven he can score and stay healthy. Stills has been the most prolific scorer on the team the last 4 years. He has also played all but one game in those 4 seasons. Those two elements make him more valuable than every other receiver we have.

Grant and Wilson haven’t shown they can stay healthy, and first and foremost you have to be on the field to help your team. I would keep all those guys and if they all perform, then you reevaluate at the end of the season, maybe Wilson stays healthy and makes Stills superfluous. Keeping those 3 guys and Parker doesn’t prevent us from keeping a couple of bigger body WRs.

  44. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Try, because we already know some of the young players on the team can play because they’ve proven it. To me the biggest concerns we have is will the OL gel and stay healthy, who will step up as pass rushers and obviously the play at QB. Other than that I feel we have solid talent and potential upside from some other young players.

  45. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

    ______________________________________________________

the thing is with Preston Williams and the new guy Trenton Irvin; can you get them quality time? not to mention Stills is on the downside of his contract.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Getting the up and comers time is a legitimate concern if you figure the top 4 slots are taken, especially since there are likely to be less WR targets as we’ll have a QB that knows what a TE is, and we may be more run oriented this year.

It would be a balancing act, but if the up and comers have talent it should shine through and it can be hoped they would force the coaches into making a tough decision. Strong competition is a good thing.

Stills is only 27 and can potentially be a commodity for years to come as a Dolphin, so I’m not worried about where he is in his contract. Unless this staff doesn’t see Stills as a keeper, then I would flip over to your thinking and say trade him now to get something in for him.

And I’m not saying you’re wrong, this is all just my opinion. I think I just value Stills contribution to the team enough to keep him at this time.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Out of curiosity, does Stills being one of the protesting players factor into your reasoning? (Which I can completely understand.) If I remember correctly, Phelon would kick him to the curb for that reason, I just don’t recall if that matters for you or not.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

No it doesn’t matter, in fact i applaud him for his work in the community, just don’t like him as a member of this team.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

he’s reached his ceiling and is mediocre at best, he’s no Danny Amendola…he’s no josh Gordon either.

  49. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

  50. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

  51. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

This offseason we’ll see which players this regime likes moving forward and which ones they want to move on from after TC. To start proposing who to cut or trade is premature at this time.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Much as I love the player….. I’ll propose trading Reshad. He’s just too old for our rebuilding window and his salary is not something we should keep. Those kind of thoughts are how it works. Not like they were gonna keep Wake.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Letting Wake go may have as much to do with scheme as money.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Jones at his age and salary is something different. The same with Wake. I’m talking about suggesting trading players who are still young. This new staff will decide who fits and who doesn’t moving forward. It will work itself out is basically what I was saying.

  52. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Cab – You are correct….I would kick Stills to the curb for a bag of chips for kneeling. But, like ORob, I also think he is a one trick pony.

  53. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Cheers, guys. We’ll see what the coaches think of Stills once we get started here in a couple of weeks. I expect him to be a part of our offense this season, but I am often as wrong as I am right in these things, so what the heck do I l know, lol.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

How the heck did I create a capital ‘I’ and a slightly smaller capital ‘I’ right next to each other?

  54. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

I think size does not matter. LOL When it comes to WR’s blocking. I think it is more mentality(mental toughness). There are plenty of small receivers who block well. Jarvis Landry/Hines Ward have that mental toughness. Kenny Stills does not.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I think too much is being made of his blocking. To start off, I’m not convinced he is some sort of horrible liability as a blocker, but even if not a great blocker, most burners on NFL teams aren’t.

He was part of a stupid Gase offense that required every WR to be a good blocker because everything was a WR screen, a pass within one yard, etc. Even in an offense that WR blocking reliant, he was a factor and had plenty of playing time. Now that we are going to run a more standard offense (hopefully), I just don’t think the fact Stills doesn’t block like Heinz Ward is going to be a major reason we keep or discard him.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Stills is a guy who can beat the defense over the top for a big score. He’s also been efficient as a slot receiver when he’s lined up there. He’s not a great player but he is an explosive weapon.

  55. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m actually pretty surprised at the number of people that don’t want to keep Stills. I get it if the protesting bothers you, that is different, but excepting that, from a player standpoint he’s easily been our most consistent receiver over the last 3-4 years and he’s only 27.

Rob, you mentioned Amendola. Amendola has never scored more than 4 TDs in a season, he’s never matched Stills’ best year in receiving yardage, and he’s injury prone. Stills has scored 6 TDs with us twice, and 9 TDs in his best year. The year Stills scored 9 TDs, he was 3rd in the NFL in yds per catch. What makes him no Amendola? The fact he doesn’t catch 60 passes for a whopping 500 yds. Might as well bring back Bess for those numbers.

Stills may be near his ceiling and may never be great, I get that. But he’s not some horrible liability IMO. Like I said, it’s kinda surprising to me he gets the Rodney Dangerfield treatment, lol.

I dont want to see Stills leave, because every time we loose a big threat our O turns into a pop gun offense, but if he does leave dont do it this year with a large cap hit.

  59. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’d bet Fitzmagic wants to see Stills on the team this year. They should be quite a duo.

  60. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

    Cav,
Amendola is way more valuable to the Pats than Stills is to Miami, not sure about the stats comparison but Amendola is a 1st down making machine!
Stills is not that relevant to Miami, most of the time you don’t even know he’s on the field.

Maybe it had to do with Tannehill not being able to throw the deep ball with consistency, who knows he may have a break out season, we’ll see,

he should be under the gun to perform at a high level this year due to his contract situation.

  61. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Cav, I wasn’t trying to knock Stills value to the team. I just wish he was more physical. Though, his lack of physicality has kept him healthy.

  62. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Sounds serious enough that they aren’t planning on having him back full time this year.

Amendola played for us last year, but we did not renew, so he signed with Detroit.
    2019 stats with the Dolphins.
59 catches for 575 yds for a 9.7 average per catch with a long of 39 and 1 TD.

He was a UDFA out of college and has only caught 20 TDs in 10 yrs.

You’ll get no argument from me in the relative value of Edelman to the Pets vs Stills to the Dolphins. I’d take Edelman over Stills all day long.

Rob, I don’t see Trenton Irwin as an Edelman type. Maybe because of his size. Kind of like a Hartline 2.0 possession guy, tough and without the fall down syndrome when he try’s to run. I could see him as a big slot guy though since he blocks well and would be a mismatch for a LB to cover on early downs.

  80. Dolphins have 3 home games at 1 Pm in September hot, hot, and HOT

    Ravens, Patriots, and Chargers

its imperative to be able to play football in high heat and humidity, and fortunately Flores is running the guys hard for conditioning

We should have a definite home field advantage in these 3 games IMO

if we can beat these 3 teams early in the year , that will give us an excellent start

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Definitely will have the heat advantage in play. Huge all caps IF on beating those 3 teams though. Just went to first power ranking I saw, but Pats and Bolts were top 5 and Ravens #13.

      • the patriots are in Miami, in a september 1 pm game?

they havent won in Miami in 8 years, and it isnt likely they take this one, no capital ifs needed, lol jk

      • also west coast teams typically dont play their best in Miami.

plus lately, the ravens ALWAYS seem to host us, this is a rare opportunity to bring them down to the Miami oven and cook them medium rare!

i see these games as very winnable

  82. Stanger, Chargers also lost their deep threat and didnt replace him Tyrell Williams
and i dont know about You, but i dont feel good about Melvin Gordon this year, between his injuries and wanting a bigger contract,

its an offense with big names, that might not live up to their names this year

i would be careful making playoff arrangements if i were the chargers, they are not very close , and may not be there this year like many expect

  83. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

David — nothing like hope. You are one of the stats guys on the board. What do you think the chances are that the Phins win against the Ravens, Patriots, and Chargers? Even with the heat and home advantage, I’d put it at 100-1.

    • have You watched the last 8 times Patriots came to Miami?
they havent won, so this hardly proves we cant win again

i dont really put vegas odds on these things, lol
but i dont automatically give the patriots a win in Miami, when they have NOT earned it whatsoever
ive seen 8 years of prediction of patriots winning in Miami go wrong, lets go for 9
if i had to put odds on this game, it would definitely favor Miami, but not by a huge margin

i dont even remember last time ravens came to Miami, but it is an advantage we dont have to go to Baltimore every damn season

and i feel the chargers are overrated, they havent actually earned anything as of yet, and they will not win in Miami IMO

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Can start with heck yeah the Ravens have played in Miami — think seen them three times in the stands (or at least twice…. one might have been on TV). And two were Fests…. Rock was getting into it that 2nd day.

But point was all three would be huge given they will be favorites and then do the math on the trifecta. I’d be doing the happy dance on just two of them, maybe even just one.

  84. as far as stats go, those are becoming less important in my business.
its more of trying to survive in an AI world, where
81 percent of the market is on AI transactions.
instead of getting into the heads of investors and analyzing companies, i now spend more time factoring AI algorithems, and predicting when they will pivot.
AI is making me and other human investors almost obsolete, we can never match AI, all we can do is predict what AI will do, and get in the way of success so it can run You over.
however, AI is easier to predict than humans, im getting REALLY good at this

AI can make millions of buy and sell transactions in seconds, and they are all interconnected and play off of each other.

i see things now that human investors would never do, so im trying to adjust until i too can afford an AI system to do My picks

imagine being able to play gains and shorts on thousands of stocks daily, all reading trends from other AI, all done automatically while You are doing something else, SMH

the rich make gains when we bleed, so i have to adjust and relearn how to invest in an ever changin g market

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

David — the day you can afford an AI system that competes with the big boys is a day that you don’t have to buy one. You are ready to retire already.

      • retirement is no longer My goal , i already met that

I want to get AI and leave something for My family

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

My point was that such a system would cost a lot of money, but what do I know? Maybe there is something much cheaper. Not into a lot of the investments you look at. Just an index guy…. so pretty boring. Worked out quite well since retired though, but maybe could have done better if had your verve and insight.
