Player Spotlight – WR Preston Williams

Most of us have seen the first preseason game against Atlanta. If you have, you saw quite the performance from rookie undrafted WR Preston Williams. I was watching NFLN this morning and they were doing this segment where Burleson, Schrager and Brandt each pick the most impressive preseason performance from week 1. I’m thinking there’s no way any of these guys pick someone from the Dolphins, especially since Schrager didn’t pick one. Burleson chose S Taylor Rapp of the Los Angeles Rams. Schrager, who seems to like the Dolphins chose Browns LB Mack Wilson and I was convinced no Miami Dolphins player could possible get an honor. To my surprise, Kyle Brandt chose Miami Dolphins WR Preston Williams. He was gushing about his talent and how refined he looked. Williams finished with 4 catches for 97 yards and a crazy 24.3 YPR average. It was also the quality and difficulty of his catches , a one hand grab down the sidelines, a toe tapping marvel on the sidelines, going up over defensive backs, just a great looking day for a potential impact receiver. Could he be what Devante Parker was supposed to be? At 6’5 218 his size alone is impressive. At his pro day he ran 4.53 and with a 31.5″ vertical and 116″ broad jump. Nothing spectacular. Just turn on some practice footage or game tape if you want to see what he is.

There’s a long way to go before it’s a given that Preston Williams is actually on the 53 man roster when the season begins, but he’s turning heads every day, not just in the games but in practice as well. In yesterday’s scrimmage with the Buccaneers, Wilson made some pro moves and shook the Bucs DB like he didn’t belong on the same playing field with him. He’s working hard to make the roster and it looks like not only will he make the roster but he might actually be a difference maker. The last big investment we made in a WR was none other than former 1st RD pick in 2015 Devante Parker, 14th overall. Williams is taking the path of former Miami Dolphins WR Davone Bess. The Dolphins signed Bess as an UDFA in 2008. Not only did Bess make the roster but he caught 54 passes for 554 yards and 1 TD. I’m not comparing Williams to Bess in any other way other than the fact that were both UDFA’s who can make an impact. Williams ceiling is much higher than Davone Bess’ simply because Williams has the size to and athletic ability to be a real difference maker, and he plays on the outside as opposed to being more of a slot/possession receiver that Bess was.

Preston Williams basically played one full season of college ball, playing last season at Colorado State. He transferred from Tennessee in his Junior year and didn’t play until his Senior year, last year. What a season William’s had though. 96 receptions for 1345 yards and 14 TD’s. That elite production. Williams was not invited to the NFL Combine because of an incident in which he was charged for misdemeanor charges of tampering and harassment for allegedly shoving a woman in a domestic dispute.. Much like the luck of having Laremy Tunsil fall into our hands, this could end up being another gift from the NFL Gods. Williams could have easily been a 2nd RD pick and there isn’t a shot in hell we would be selecting a WR in the 2nd or even the 3rd RD last year. Getting Williams to sign here was a great boon, but give the rest of the of the credit to Preston Williams who is working his butt off to be on this team. Besides, don’t the football Gods owe us for Yatil Green?

GO DOLPHINS!!

The Cards and Cubs are essentially tied for the NLC lead…
    ————-
My, how things have changed over the years. “NLC” used to be an acronym for Naked Lesbian Cheerleaders, from our old friend FFR (Fin Fan Rob).

I hope my friend FFR is doing alright… I miss him.

    I’ll just leave this here
    78-43! šŸ˜‰

    • CavalierKong says:

Hoping you guys win it this year. Your championship trophy is probably pretty lonely. Everyone should have at least one friend, even championships… šŸ˜‰

We may be 32 in the power poll, but the Cardinals are awful.

  6. steveccnv says:

Watched RT highlights from week 1, on at least 2 passes he almost got his receivers killed, most passes aren’t accurate to the spot for YAC. Glad he’s go e.

    Itā€™s game day bitches!

    Go Dolphins!

Mickey Calloway on Drew Gagnon last night “He did a great job out there last night, gave us a couple of innings”

    Drew Gagnon 1.2 innings pitched, 6 hits, 5 runs, 5 earned runs, 4 HR’s

    LOL

  11. ocalarob says:

i just hope we get past this game injury free.

  12. ocalarob says:

you just wonder how good this team will be, Rosen and Fitz future with miami is in their hands, if we stink we will get an early draft pick and chances are that will be a qb to replace them, however if we finish good we will be in back of the draft very likely too expensive to move up and get a top tier QB.

  13. Rockphin says:

if we do draft a 2020 qb which i think is highly possible please donā€™t draft Tua!

    Reply

I agree! I was leaning towards Hubert, then Fromm, but now I am leaning back toward Hubert.

  14. Rockphin says:

Joe Shad, you need to learn what “average” and “very good” mean. They are not interchangeable and there is NO green on this chart.

    • steveccnv says:

Lol, a chart should have a numerical range, and not use fuzzy math, subjective to its creator.

      • Rockphin says:

it is passer rating, it is no more subjective than that is used for everyone else. It is just broken down into areas of the field.

  15. Rockphin says:

What I want to see most from tonight’s game: No injuries!

Game is on TV here on the panhandle at 6:30pm. Gotta leave work 45 min early to catch kickoff. Hmmmmmm, what story can I come up with???

    • Rockphin says:

The gas company has to change out my meter and I need to be there so I can relight the pilot lights I set the appointment for as late in the day as I could.

      • Rockphin says:

i didn’t tell you earlier because the gas company just called me this week to let me know and couldn’t tell me what day until they got the schedule.

  18. BailBondMike says:

I don’t have gas at my house. All electric, but the boss don’t know that. LOL I was thinking A/C.

    • Rockphin says:

I just thought of it because it actually happened to me a month or so ago. I don’t live in the house that is hooked up (Vacant, no current renters) and it is 2.5 hour drive away. PITA!

  19. Rockphin says:

    WTF is everyone today??

  20. Rockphin says:

    I’m bored! ENTERTAIN ME!

    • CavalierKong says:

We had a guy in my building yesterday telling his therapist (on the phone while at work) that he wanted to shoot all the white people in the building. Thankfully the therapist called the police and 8 uni’s showed up within minutes and arrested the guy.

This guy wears a button up white shirt and tie, and a red skirt. And it’s not a cultural thing. The damn skirt looks like a throw rug that he wraps around himself. WTF?

Might be time for me to take a vacation.

      • Mike E. says:

I am definitely sensing an anti-white sentiment lately. Especially white males. Very strange

      • CavalierKong says:

I always make the joke that I’m a middle aged white male, so I’m not allowed to have ‘culture’, lol, but my employer has a very diverse workforce, so it was surprising to hear.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        Yeah thatā€™s vacation time

Did he work there or was it just random?

  21. Mike E. says:

I’m working for a change. Been a busy day so far

  22. BailBondMike says:

I read miami scouts will be at every game the top 3 qbs play this season
    —————————————-
Who is THEIR top 3 though?

  23. BailBondMike says:

    Dang Cav that’s wild!

  24. sb7mvp says:

Had a job interview today. They made an offer on the spot.

  25. The Flying Pig says:

  26. CavalierKong says:

    Pggy,

He works (worked?) here. I’ve heard stories about the kind of issues he’s been creating, but didn’t realize I was on any kind of list.

    • The Flying Pig says:

He also stole the I in my name
Was he armed when he was arrested?
I really donā€™t want to know where he stored the ammo if he showed up in a red skirt

      • CavalierKong says:

LOL on the “i”. They aren’t telling us anything, but as far as I’m aware, he wasn’t armed at the moment of arrest, but they impounded his car, so he may have had gear in it.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        Thatā€™s pretty scary

      • CavalierKong says:

And we’re a secured building with no public access. You’d think it makes you safer, but if someone is already in, it actually means it’s harder to get out. Less point of egress.

      • CavalierKong says:

        points

  27. BailBondMike says:

Crazy times for sure. We had an active shooter yesterday at a grocery store that I go to every now and then. He went inside yelling at everyone. Someone called 911 already then he pulled a pistol and started shooting at people. No one was hit/injured except shooter. Two deputies were there within minutes while he was still shooting and turned the gun on them. Deputies put 3 rounds in him. He is still alive in hospital. I had bonded him out 2 years ago on a battery case. Mother said he never got in trouble before until after he turned 21 when he started smoking spice all the time. He’s 24 now and been arrested 5 times the last 3 years. Mother says he went from being every mother’s dream child, loving, caring, considerate and hardworking to a violent and angry demon.

  28. sb7mvp says:

Mike and Stanger. I’m planning on taking it. I have them a soft yes at the interview, but had to talk it over with the wife first before confirmation.

  29. D says:

    Luke Falk 4/4 41 10.3 1 0 0-0 149.0

  30. Rockphin says:

he is going to beat out Sam DuhArnold

  31. Rockphin says:

Is it just me or does he DuhArnold look like a giant leprechaun?

  32. Rockphin says:

    Separated at birth

  33. naplesfan2010 says:

Darnold was my least favorite of the Star QBs coming out that year.

  34. Rockphin says:

Sitting there at 11 watching Rosen drop saying please no, please no, please no, YES!!!! Stupid Arizona!

  35. The Flying Pig says:

    I had them ranked
    Mayfield
    Rosen
    Allen
    Darnold

I didnā€™t like the bottom 2 too much
    Still donā€™t

  36. Tim Knight says:

Mike, I didn’t realize it was okay to broad brush an entire group of people like saying “the biggest threat to America are white males.” But more than one person has said that publicly and it seems to be no big deal.

Then you have people throwing water on cops and cheering as they were shot recently in Philadelphia. I don’t know where all this headed but it’s not good.

  37. stangerx says:

Think we will grow to hate Darnold. Like the way he looks on the field. Reminds me of Luck, including might take some time to season.

  38. stangerx says:

    Isn’t it Friday? lol

  39. sb7mvp says:

    Stanger,
No moving involved. We just have a partnership.

  40. sb7mvp says:

Jets are going to be tough. They’ve got a lot of talent on that team and a good DC. Those two things can mask Gase’s inefficiencies as an HC. It’s also possible he learned from his mistakes. Hiring a an established DC is a good first step for him.

  41. naplesfan2010 says:

really hoping buff and jest can do their part and beat patsies. Gettin so sick of never getting any help from those teams. They just hand the div & the playoffs to NE by giving them an auto 4 Ws.

  42. pheloniusphish says:

And people wonder why I go armed everywhere.

My fav QB last year was Daniel Jones.

    • CavalierKong says:

It would be nice if we had that option. If we could carry at my employment, it wouldn’t have mattered what skirt-guy tried to do. Unfortunately even with CCWs we aren’t permitted to carry.

      • pheloniusphish says:

Yah, those damn gun safe zones ..

      • CavalierKong says:

LOL, I know I sure felt warm and fuzzy yesterday.

Although I do have to say, the police response was very fast. Much respect to the boys in blue.

  43. pheloniusphish says:

  44. pheloniusphish says:

And Darnold looks like Jethro Bodine.
    https://images.app.goo.gl/n6TSwCWBezah2kLs9

  45. Tim Knight says:

Why would be looking to trade a young LB who came on strong at the end of last season? Also does trading him to the Jets make any sense?

  46. pheloniusphish says:

  47. Tim Knight says:

Looks like tonight’s game might be very wet.

Would love to experience Friday night tunes.

    Stay the course.

  52. olddolphan says:

IF YOU HAVE DIRECTV in Tampa Bay/Sarasota you will NOT get tonight’s Fins-Bucs game, contrary to what some have said. BOTH NBC stations have been dropped locally in a dispute. –SOO, the closest place showing the game probably is Ocala–about an hour’s drive north of Tampa.
Very heavy rains have soaked this part of Florida, with more coming to0night and the rest of the weekend. Many cities around here are on pace for the rainiest year in history. However, Senator Rick Scott still maintains that climate change is a hoax.

HOPE the NFL Channel at least shows hi-lites (if there ARE ANY). DON’T BE SURPRISED if this game is stopped before 4 quarters are played. After all, this is LIGHTNING TERRITORY!!!

  54. olddolphan says:

  76. wyoming85 says:

    That was an interesting series!!!!

I do like rosen’s pre snap reads though!

  77. olddolphan says:

NO HIGHLITES seen of Fins-Bucs game. See that rosen has 1 completion for 5 yards. Reminds me of some of his games that I DID SEE. IF ROSEN continues to stink it up vs. lowly Bucs’ defense, that will enhance Fitz-magic’s chances A LOT!!
    —————–
Is the game still 0-0?? Buehler??, Buehler?????

  78. wyoming85 says:

Well at least Dieter was watching the clock!

  85. pheloniusphish says:

    One for Wyo

  86. mf13ss says:

We’re only going to go as far as our O-Line takes us.

    • wyoming85 says:

      I don’t know?
The new offense looks at least on the professional level

Even though we did use a bubble screen! For 10 + yards I might add!

  88. wyoming85 says:

    Preston dropping the rock tonight!
    3rd!
