Most of us have seen the first preseason game against Atlanta. If you have, you saw quite the performance from rookie undrafted WR Preston Williams. I was watching NFLN this morning and they were doing this segment where Burleson, Schrager and Brandt each pick the most impressive preseason performance from week 1. I’m thinking there’s no way any of these guys pick someone from the Dolphins, especially since Schrager didn’t pick one. Burleson chose S Taylor Rapp of the Los Angeles Rams. Schrager, who seems to like the Dolphins chose Browns LB Mack Wilson and I was convinced no Miami Dolphins player could possible get an honor. To my surprise, Kyle Brandt chose Miami Dolphins WR Preston Williams. He was gushing about his talent and how refined he looked. Williams finished with 4 catches for 97 yards and a crazy 24.3 YPR average. It was also the quality and difficulty of his catches , a one hand grab down the sidelines, a toe tapping marvel on the sidelines, going up over defensive backs, just a great looking day for a potential impact receiver. Could he be what Devante Parker was supposed to be? At 6’5 218 his size alone is impressive. At his pro day he ran 4.53 and with a 31.5″ vertical and 116″ broad jump. Nothing spectacular. Just turn on some practice footage or game tape if you want to see what he is.
There’s a long way to go before it’s a given that Preston Williams is actually on the 53 man roster when the season begins, but he’s turning heads every day, not just in the games but in practice as well. In yesterday’s scrimmage with the Buccaneers, Wilson made some pro moves and shook the Bucs DB like he didn’t belong on the same playing field with him. He’s working hard to make the roster and it looks like not only will he make the roster but he might actually be a difference maker. The last big investment we made in a WR was none other than former 1st RD pick in 2015 Devante Parker, 14th overall. Williams is taking the path of former Miami Dolphins WR Davone Bess. The Dolphins signed Bess as an UDFA in 2008. Not only did Bess make the roster but he caught 54 passes for 554 yards and 1 TD. I’m not comparing Williams to Bess in any other way other than the fact that were both UDFA’s who can make an impact. Williams ceiling is much higher than Davone Bess’ simply because Williams has the size to and athletic ability to be a real difference maker, and he plays on the outside as opposed to being more of a slot/possession receiver that Bess was.
Preston Williams basically played one full season of college ball, playing last season at Colorado State. He transferred from Tennessee in his Junior year and didn’t play until his Senior year, last year. What a season William’s had though. 96 receptions for 1345 yards and 14 TD’s. That elite production. Williams was not invited to the NFL Combine because of an incident in which he was charged for misdemeanor charges of tampering and harassment for allegedly shoving a woman in a domestic dispute.. Much like the luck of having Laremy Tunsil fall into our hands, this could end up being another gift from the NFL Gods. Williams could have easily been a 2nd RD pick and there isn’t a shot in hell we would be selecting a WR in the 2nd or even the 3rd RD last year. Getting Williams to sign here was a great boon, but give the rest of the of the credit to Preston Williams who is working his butt off to be on this team. Besides, don’t the football Gods owe us for Yatil Green?

GO DOLPHINS!!

Krishna,
I pray you are given peace. My condolences.
I already hate pass interference calls!
Now I can double hate the red flag to Challenge them too!
That was not defensive pass interference.
Now it’s starting to look like the end of the Bengals game! 😦

It’s the 2nd PS game. Good time to work on the running game and run defense.
Anyone else see that Laird looks like a Pats type player – RB Rush/Rec?
Krish, I’ll leave you with an old Gershwin tune, Clapton does beautful justice to, good night buddy

This helps us some Game 1. Did I mention that I can’t stand the Ravens???
Sonny – Did you see that Clapton concert Slow Hand at 70? Just unbelievable . . .
who will be starting at QB game 1..?
that’s the million dollar question, Rosen looked pretty good.
it will be very telling whomever starts the next game, that will be your 2019 starter at qb
Rosen has been getting a lot more reps in game situations than Fitz, but Fitz has exp. Maybe they’re trying to get Rosen up to speed quickly to make him the starter.
I read miami is kicking the tires on trent williams, i’d take him over clowney.
Trent Williams only wants to play LT, at least that’s what I heard on NFL radio
can jessie davis hold down the RT position? he was hammered in the Cincy game last year.
Krishna,
Very sorry to hear of your loss. I’ll leave you with one of my favorite songs.
Condolences Krishna
Krishna – Another good one for you
not sure why we just didn’t keep Juwaun James
Got to watch the game but couldn’t blog yesterday.
– Players who stood out to me were LB Eguavoen, CB Lammons and RB Laird.
– Rosen was neither good or bad. The dropped INT would have been bad and he had some throws off target. When they went for it on 4th and goal he tried to go low and outside to Ford and threw it to low but think he should have went with the jump ball to Giesiki who was 1 on 1 in the corner. Just a quick decision thing. Ryan Fitz didn’t seem to be into the game (IMO) maybe cause he didn’t start against his old team. Could be over analyzing that.
– Players who were not so good were OL (we have no depth at tackle). I am glad Bowles threw some blitzes at them. It was good experience for them and the RB’s. Preston Williams came back to earth with the drops. Needham had one good PD but blew several coverages.
– ….and what’s up Minkah??? I don’t care that he was “playing out of position” at SS. He shouldn’t be there anyway. His tackling is shit !!! Way to many whiffs, last game and this one.
Mike, I’ve seen some videos from Slowhand at 70 (2015), not the whole thing. I just looked at the song lineup they do and its really good. I like the live album/dvd called – One more car, one more rider (2001). Billy Preston on organs instead of Paul Carrack (Squeeze) but otherwise the band is
pretty much the same. Another great concert is Clapton and Steve Winwood live at Madison Square Garden (2009). It’s really good, some of the versions of the songs they do are the best you’ve ever heard them.
Wow, I didn’t realize that was from 4 years ago. Loved it though. They played very well.
Krishna, so sorry man, my prayers are with you!!!
Did Prince come back in the game after he hurt his arm or something? He seems like a good prospect/potential backup at tackle.
yes
Oh Jeez Krishna. What a true lady. She’ll always be with you.

No doubt who Adam Beasley’s player of the game was. LBs are looking deep.

Sam Eguavoen isn’t just a lock to make the Dolphins’ 53-man roster, he’s going to be awfully hard to eject from the starting lineup, even when the Dolphins’ more heralded linebackers get healthy.
The ex-CFL star and 26-year-old rookie had an excellent game against the Buccaneers Friday night. He tallied seven tackles, including two for loss, and forced a fumble with a chinstrap-loosening hit on running back Andre Ellington in the first half.
He did all that on just 48 plays from scrimmage. Imagine what he could do with 70.
I like Prince to develop at RT, but he’s not ready to sart right away.
If Shaq can be taught to figure out who his man is, he’ll be fine. He keeps blowing the assignment. It’s not that he gets beat physically though, so that’s better (I think.).
Scary though, because i think Asiata could hit, too, but he had no idea what scheme meant.
I thought Rosen did ok, considering he did not have Ballage, Drake, Grant, Wilson, or Parker, and Tunsil only played like 10 snaps. The two rookie guards just have to keep learning. I thought the back-up Center did well.
The defense that lost the game was about 90% cut candidates anyway.
^^
I know it was 2nd & 3rd team but what did you think of CB Lammons and RB Laird?
If I were Arians, I’d cut Gabbert and keep that 3rd string guy.
I thought Fitzmagic played like a bum. He seemed to be trying to project his displeasure about not starting. He tossed his helmet into the air when he came off after the first series, but maybe that was frustration with the tech inside not working.
If he is going to sulk when Rosen starts Game 1, (if that happens) then I would cut him and go with Rudock. Rudock throws a nice ball, and he runs a crisp drive, and he’d be grateful for the job.
I would keep him until another team’s starter goes down. Maybe nab a late pick for him.
Krishna, so sorry to hear the news. I was wondering what all the music posts were about. My sincerest condolences to you and your family. Peace & Love
Sam Eguavoen was all over the place. He definitely looks like he’s earned his keep.
Wilkins showed he can play all over the DL last night because he did and did it well.

Patriots offense is getting just the boost it needed. WR Josh Gordon is now eligible to return to New England.
Don’t know if he’s completely in the clear yet?
Krishna I just read about you loss and am so very sorry. That’s way too soon in your life for such a loss and I pray for healing and comfort for you and your family.
Josh McCown, who announced his retirement this summer to spend more time with family, is returning to play his 17th NFL season with the Eagles, per sources.
McCown is signing a 1-year deal with the but plans to resume his broadcasting career with ESPN after season, per source.
RBs seem to be a surprisingly deep group. That’s going to be a hard group to trim
Never even knew about him before, but Laird broke some nice runs. Least got me thinking PS for him.
Most unfortunate news has found inside linebacker Avery Williamson and the New York Jets.
Williamson is likely lost for the 2019 season with a torn ACL, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday, per a source. Williamson had an MRI Friday.
The five-season pro was injured in New York’s preseason game Thursday against the Atlanta Falcons.
Following four seasons with the Titans to begin his NFL career, Williams’ first season with the Jets in 2018 saw him tally a team-leading 120 tackles to go along with three sacks, six passes defended and two forced fumbles.
Williamson was set to start next to C.J. Mosley this season. Now, it’s likely Neville Hewitt or Anthony Wint will step into a starting role for the time being.
Krishna:
I am so sorry for your loss. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to meet your wife. She was a wonderful person and I know she will be missed
Can we all now agree Ryan Fitzpatrick blows?
He is what he is and what he has been through a long career a smart QB who can manage to string together a few great games followed be some stinkers. Like I said early on, he’s here to start until they are ready to hand off to Rosen. Rosen will be our starter for most of the season though I still expect Fitz to start day one. Rosen will get his chance to be our QB of the future but could be only this year if he doesn’t pan out
Nice to see you Ken, I was just asking about you the other day. Have missed ya bri
Bro
Just been crazy busy
Just been crazy busy
I like the way Sam Eguavoen hits/tackles. He needs to tutor Minkah Fitzpatrick so he can get over the whiffs. SMH
