Secondary to none

Xavien Howard at Left Cornerback, Byron Jones at Right Cornerback. Bobby McCain at Free Safety and Eric Rowe at Strong Safety. I believe this is our best secondary in a long time. Both Howard and Jones can be lockdown corners. Howard has the INT’s but Jones is regarded as one of the top cover corners in the NFL and shuts down the receivers he’s on. A healthy Bobby McCain this season will be better than he was last year struggling with a shoulder injury. Eric Rowe who has played a lot of different positions much like McCain, really seemed to find himself at Strong Safety. I thought he played his best ball there and his elite athleticism is a big plus at safety.

We drafted another CB who will likely be our slot and nickel corner in RD1 pick #30, Noah Igbinoghene (Iggy Mahogany). Those 5 guys in addition to up and comers like Nik Needham, Stevie Parker, Ken Webster and Ryan Lewis makes our depth legitimate. At safety we have 3 young vets who provide nice depth in Clay Fejedelem, Adrian Colbert and Kavon Frazier and a very promising rookie who may end up rising to the top of the depth chart before long in Brandon Jones. Add in a CB who at one time seemed like a potential starter in Cordrea Tankersley. Tank started 11 games in 2017 replacing Byron Maxwell who we picked up from Philly. Tank definitely showed promise in 2017 but suffered a season ending ACL injury in 2018. He was placed on the PUP in 2019 while recovering but couldn’t make it back last year. This is Tank’s final year on his contract so I expect he will be looking to crack the lineup to get himself another contract next year either here or elsewhere.

Having two shutdown corners should make a huge difference for our defense. We all know we’ve struggled to get to the QB the last few years but the additions we made this offseason in both free agency (Kyle Van Noy, ShaqLawson, Emmanuel Ogbah) as well as in the draft (Raekwon Davis, Curtis Weaver, Jason Strowbridge) will give us a lot more juice in the pass rush department. Pairing that potentially dominant secondary with an upgraded pass rush could yield excellent results from our defense. I don’t about all of you people here, I’m really looking forward to seeing this defense grow this year!

GO DOLPHINS!!

Who will want to play in Florida?

The damn media is running fake news about all the cases and ICU beds being filled up in Miami-Dade county. SMH!

  2. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

And one more comment about Florida “counting” processes.

They can’t count votes, hanging chads, etc. Why should we expect them to count lab tests properly? That’s higher math!?

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

They can’t even count dead bodies. The governor got heck earlier on for only reporting the deaths of Florida citizens. Apparently you could vacation in FL and never die.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

This is different, maybe, because they have financial gain at stake, but you could say the same about their other counting issues. Maybe corruption is a better way of putting it. The numbers are in their favor, so…

  3. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Javaris Davis originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Kansas City on April 30, 2020. Davis was a four-year letterman (2016-19) and three-year starter at Auburn, where he played in 49 career games with 35 starts. He totaled 150 tackles (115 solo), eight interceptions, 32 passes defensed and one forced fumble in his career.

He played with Iggy, so that should help him, and does have good numbers. He likely won’t make the 53, but looks like he may have a shot at the PS.

  4. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Seems the number of infections for a state is pretty much just an indicator of what’s going on anyhow since you are never going to catch all the cases because some people have relatively mild symptoms. But if the counting metric stays the same, even if imperfect, the number going up or down shows what is relatively happening.

Best measure for the impact of the illness has always been people hospitalized and deaths.

  5. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    Agree, stangerx. It’s trends.

We’re not even close to “knowing” where we are as a nation. Some of you here have real life experience on the efficacy, efficiency, and effectiveness of US testing after 6 months of knowing about COVID.

    Stellar results so far!

  6. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I don’t agree, as BBM smentioned yesterday the nurse said the hospitals aren’t full. We also know the death numbers are highly inflated. If George Floyd had covid they would’ve counted him too.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

In Pensacola. Last I checked that was no where near Miami-Dade county.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

If ICU beds aren’t full in South FLorida they sure are putting a lot of effort into hiding it by converting other units into ICUs. Part of that was canceling elective surgery, which I guess could actually mean there are free beds of other kinds.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

We have video on how Floyd died or the cops would have said “he strangled, I mean struggled.”

Truly an asshole thing to say.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

It’s just confirmation bias. We see doctor after doctor and nurse after nurse talking about the impact to hospitals, and that is all fake. But the second we get a story from a nurse in a passing conversation saying something that fits your own belief, well obviously that’s true.

Also, what happened to the 10 times the number of people that probably have it, but aren’t being counted in the total because they are asymptomatic? That is what brings the death total down to only about 5 times the flu at like .006. So are the numbers overinflated or underinflated?

Meh, I’ve said it before, I’m not sure what to believe anymore. To me all that really matters is the virus is here, it’s spreading, I’m not worried about the impact to myself, but I know I don’t want my mother in chemo to get it. I don’t want my elders to get it. I’m going to listen to the health experts and doctors and wear a mask and socially distance. I’m part of my community and I’ll do my part.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

And yeah, I believe the testing is for absolute crap, completely unreliable. My knowledge is anecdotal, but it’s what I believe.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

        Yep!

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Cav — completely made up by me playing doctor on the board, but I’m starting to think it is not so much the tests are unreliable as they are only as good as they are. They detect the virus, but only at a certain level….. one above where some people who already have it register. Give that same person a few days and then it would work.

      • D's avatar D says:

I think you can file this under the whats the negative. So on one hand, you dont believe int he numbers and you decided you dont wear a mask and practice social distancing or whatever, and if you are right, ok your risk is lower but its still there. You still have a chance to contract it, to spread it, to potentially bring it to someone that doesnt survive it. You are wrong and its that times 10.

On the other hand lets say you believe the numbers and you wear a mask and you socially distance and you hand sanitize etc etc. If you are right you have lessensed the risk of the spread to someone else by a factor, not matter the factor, its less than the previous factor. If you are wrong, you still lower the numbers, there just wasnt as much of a threat as previously thought.

So any way ya slice it, there is no reason to throw caution to the wind and treat it like there isnt a threat out there, because if you do you dont change the outcome, you still are safe, those around you are safer, and in general you are part of the solution not the problem. On the flip of that you are part of the problem, period. There is nothing about playing it safe that harms anything and there is a lot at stake if you dont, and especially if you assumed wrong and the number are actually legit.

I dont see how the logic doesnt add up, how the number even friggin matter. Im going to be protecting myself until this ends and this might mean a new way of life.

  7. D's avatar D says:

Kyle Peko Jr., DT, Denver Broncos, who played in seven games for the Broncos in the 2016 and 2017, was again signed by the Broncos off the Colts practice squad last December and then signed for 2020 earlier this year. His wife, Giuliana, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s lymphoma last year and Peko was briefly excused from Bills training camp last summer to be with her. He announced last season that her treatments had been successful and she was cancer-free, but her battle with cancer would put her in the at-risk demographic for COVID-19.

    Stang,

    You might be right. 🤷

I just don’t have enough technical knowledge to make an informed decision about the issues with testing. I’m taking the tack D talked about in his reply to me. I f%^&ing HATE wearing a mask, but I’ll try to do my part not to spread it, and certainly to not give it to my vulnerable loved ones. And I’ll continue to go about my life. To me all the rest is just distraction.

    • D's avatar D says:

Small sacrifice of comfort to help you cut down on risk, no matter the percentage, no matter the test numbers, it helps and it helps as much as it does. You do all the things you can do to help, your helping as much as you can, and that again is independent of any numbers or percentages no matter the truth or fallacy in them.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yeah, I think we see eye to eye on this thing pretty much right down the line.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I’ve been researching, and obviously since I’m home it’s solely on the internet. It seems that 2/3 of the COVID-19 cases are the nasal congestion/respiratory issues and the other 1/3 are GI issues like diarrhea. Apparently, testing with a nasal swab is NOT going to find a patient that is only showing GI symptoms because the virus isn’t present in the nasal cavity. I just spoke to my doctor again and unfortunately there is no stool sample testing for COVID at this time. That kinda sucks because I would like to know for sure whether I have it even though in my mind I’m nearly 100% sure I do have it. I know at work they are interested in knowing whether I’m positive or negative and I explained the issue, but there’s a lot of gray area right now with this. It’s quite an imperfect science for those love the science aspect of it. I find that pretty unfortunate.

    • D's avatar D says:

So how did you contract this rectal only version 🙂

    • D's avatar D says:

I wouldn’t know if i had the GI version of it probably. Some of the medicines i take and the copious amounts of coffee, my shit stays fucked up half the time anyways.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

It’s pretty insidious in its ability to spread and the organ systems it attacks. Remember, there’s an infant version, too.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Sorta of hoping you are wrong on that….. cause hoping you don’t have it. Which kind did your son have? Any idea how the GI type spreads?….. meaning some other way than cough/sneeze/expelled breathe way.

  15. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

D – That’s what my son said about the GI version and largely for the same reason too. He drinks coffee too which wreaks havoc on his stomach but he does it anyway.

Also, some have not recovered from symptoms weeks or months later.

Be sure you get your info from the random nurse in Pensacola in a bail bond office. Completely sourced and peer-reviewed? And, wouldn’t even qualify as anecdotal, imo.

This is not a political debate and it’s a pandemic. But, let’s poke holes in it for political points. I think it’s pretty disgusting. We should be looking for solutions not pretending it’s overblown.

I liked D’s take on “personal responsibility.”

Just do what you can. Stop trying to discredit numbers, stop wishing it magically go away, stop politicizing it.

Something most people have heard at one point in their life, then blissfully ignored it, is that fecal matter can be found on almost all surfaces you come across that aren’t cleaned frequently. Its on the money in your pocket, its on the surfaces of your kitchens. If you smell shit, you have pieces of fecal material in your nose. Im sure its as easy to transmit, if not more so.

I didn’t realize from what had been posted before that the guys opting out are getting paid a stipend that will be deducted from their salary the next time they play. (next season)

“NFL players who opt out for 2020 also will receive salary advances. Those who opt out for medical reasons because they are at high risk regarding COVID-19 will receive $350,000 for the season, and those who opt out voluntarily will receive $150,000 for the season. (Undrafted rookies who opt out voluntarily are not eligible to earn the $150,000 stipend.)

So Duvernay-Tardif, for example, will get the $150,000 salary advance since he opted out voluntarily, and his 2020 contract will toll to 2021. He was scheduled to earn $2.75 million this season, so he’ll earn that (minus the $150,000) next year.”

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

If you have a big NFL contract……. why the heck would you opt out of the season for 150k? Can’t believe these guys are that scared of Covid at their age. Seems more likely is that they never thought the season would happen and are way out of shape.

    • D's avatar D says:

What i read was if they go forward with the season and the season gets cancelled, then they lose out on the guaranteed money for this year. So if they take the 150k and it extends their contract then their guaranteed money in 2020 will be there for them in 2021. Basically the article said that it really only benefits those that have a lot of guaranteed money this year, which im assuming is a bunch of guys and probably the top ones. Still we have seen a bunch of top name come off the list so maybe this article, which was one from ESPN i think, is wrong, or maybe players dont want to forgo the money right now, but i think there is a lot of potential they close the season and if i was in their spot i wouldnt wanna lose that money either.

I know some were very vocal about it, but there is probably some reason why it’s ok now for the GOP to do it. Let the spin begin.

I am so sick of both of these parties. I wish we could just start from scratch. I’m so sick of how this blatantly obvious 2 team tug of war just enthralls 95% of our populace.

We are stuck with both parties for now

I think you have to look at the options and decide what’s best for you given the options

But I don’t think it’s crazy, before we all leave the earth, that our political system is a little more open and less based on Jacksonian adversarial process

I’ve said it for years before 2016 when I was more vocal about the failures of the 2 party system, and less anti-trump, that our system is a product of Jacksonian of era of politics and not necessarily tied to the fundamental principles of the country

So if we had more parties that were viable options, I think you’ll see more a return to reason form the established parties, bc it’s inherently less adversarial
and more dependent on real time solutions

But for now we are all fucked….lol

I still stand by my statement you aren’t making yourself safer by carrying an AK-47 around in public for no reason. Obviously it’s just one ape’s humble opinion, but I believe you are far more likely to create an incident that gets you killed than you are to stop an incident from happening.

Concealed weapons are the way to go unless there is a purpose that requires more firepower.

Oh I agree with you. Open carry might scare of some bad guys, but many of them are unimpressed and you give up the advantage of surprise. And while rifles are have more potential to be effective/lethal, as this incident shows a pistol in well trained hands and carried by someone with the will to use it overcomes superior potential carried by a dipshit who thinks flashing it means anything.

in one breath they blame trump for the spread of the virus and on the other they support the protesters and rioters, who’s gatherings are spreading the virus.

Do they really believe they’re more likely to get covid playing in the NFL, that tests everyone regularly? The logic is retarded.

Back to the ones that have someone at home that has underlying issues, the only way to help that is to have everyone in the home quarantine themselves for months. Are they going to do that? Highly unlikely.

And a lot of people don’t where they fit right now, part of the populist take over of the GOP. Same almost happened on the other side in the primaries. “It can only be my personality, that’s all,” he said.

No you moron, it’s because you have contradicted him and done everything you can to hinder his job and his message every single step of the way and a lot of people see that. Stanger, In a town hall meeting in Iowa, an other man, i think the dude said he was in his 80’s or nearly 80, and also an Elizabeth Warren supporter. The man asked him about his son and a connection to Brumesa and asked him if he claimed that the president was bought because of his foriegn dealings, how could they expect there to be no chance of that with him. Joe responds by calling the guy a damn liar, stopped just short of calling him a fat ass, did call him fat though, and then he later rubbed it in by challenging him to push ups and an IQ test. Not very nice there.

He then proceeded to call out a student who simply asked if they could have faith in him winning against Trump, when he did so poorly in the Iowa caucus and eh proceeded to tell her she didnt even know what a caucus was and that she was a “lying dog faced pony soldier”.

Next stop he had an interaction with a Detroit factory worker when he was there for a meet and greet. The guy challenged him on his stance on the second amendment and accused him of wanting to take guns away. Biden responded “You’re full of shit man!” He said it again and said, “That’s not OK, alright?” Biden was like “Dont tell me that, pal, or im going to go outside with you, man!” They guy said, “You work for me, man!” Biden fored back, “I dont work for you, dont be such a horses ass.” Later he was in a different interview and that guy and his interaction was brought up, and Biden said “If i win, im coming for him, no im coming for them” im assuming referring to gun owners, even though in that interaction he said myltiple times he was for the 2nd amendment and gun ownership.

This is just a few of the things that have happen, just in this election campaign. Thats not to count out the time he told a black man he wasnt really black if he supported Trump, or the crigne worthy way he sniffed the hair of that one girl, or touched that other little girl on the thigh. The bunch of times he stumbled on his words so bad you had no clue what he was talking about while he fumbled his way to a point.

They are headed for a complete rebuild. As of right now what do the Pats have that says we’ll be in the AFC Championship game this year?

I think Belichick is reveling in this opportunity to prove he can win again with another group of players in a couple of years. It’s a new challenge for him before he hangs it up.

I’m not sure if this 2020 CBA agreement bullet points has been posted yet:

-The 2020 salary cap remains unchanged at $198.2 million, while the 2021 cap will be no lower
    than $175 million.

-Any revenue loss from the 2020 season will be spread out evenly across the next four seasons
    (through 2024).

-Players at high risk of complications due to the coronavirus can opt out of the 2020 season and
earn $350,000 and an accrued season toward free agency. That includes individuals with
autoimmune disorders, chronic diseases such as cancer and diabetes, heart issues, etc.

-Non-risk players can opt out of the 2020 season and earn $150,000. They do not accrue a season.

-If the season is canceled, players will not get paid their contract beyond any bonuses or
guaranteed money owed to them before the date of cancellation.

-Players who made their team’s roster will be eligible for a stipend payment, with the amount
depending on the date of cancellation.

-Positive test results for COVID-19 will be classified as football-related injuries unless the NFL
determines a player broke any social distancing rules.

-Those rules ban going to the following locations or attending the following events if more than 15
people are present: indoor nightclubs, indoor bars (except to take out food), indoor house parties,
    indoor concerts, professional sporting events.

-Attending an indoor church service that is at more than 25 percent of the building’s capacity is also
    not allowed.

-Players who break those rules are subject to team discipline.

Per ESPN’s Dan Graziano, NFL teams could potentially place players on the non-football injury list if they contracted the coronavirus through reckless behavior. By placing players on the non-football injury list, teams could potentially get out of paying the player’s salary.

D, you got most of the Biden blunders, but how about the parties at the bidens where they’d say before hand keep your eye on the women, because Joe might sexually assaulting them, and he would walk around the parties naked.

Doesn’t Biden have a sexual assault case pending?

I want to blow up the two party system into three. A 1/3 of opinions is better than this or that. It’s as simple as that to me.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

History has taught us that the ‘third party’ will be bought out by one of the other two major parties. I love the idea on paper, but it won’t work, bud.

      Now, back to football.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

There were more than two parties when this country started. We became institutionalized. Today is so obvious with what is what. We act like we can never change now. I’m not buying it.

I’m of the opinion that the NFL will not happen this year. 14 guys on the Marlins tested positive for COVID, and the MLB season is already in jeopardy. Plus, it’s an election year (not to get into politics).

We’ll see what happens, but I’m all but sure the NFL will be cancelled this year… and that would be sad.

I’m REALLY looking forward to Matt Breida behind our revamped O-Line. That just might be the best trade we’ve made in a long time, and we got him for a song.

MY HOPES OF ATTENDING some Dolphin home games this season took a major hit when the state announced that it had more lives snuffed out yesterday than in any other day since the crisis began. The number of cases also rose significantly yesterday. And, as the number of confirmed cases and deaths rises, our clueless governor STILL WANTS kids to attend public schools beginning next month!!!!

    UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!

  96. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think there will be an NFL season. I think MLB is handling the Marlins situation as well as they can. So far I think they’ve done well. I think the NFL is in position to do better but the physical contact is far greater in the NFL as compared to baseball. Maybe gloves and those Oakley facemasks will be good enough.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I think the biggest difference between MLB and NFL is if an MLB team misses a week or two, those games can potentially be made up with double-headers. I think that is a big reason they made the majority of games division games. The same 5 teams are playing 2/3rd of their games against each other.

Making up two games in the NFL would be next to impossible. So if multiple teams start missing games, then you have to start looking at comparing unequal final regular season records, which may be the ultimate answer if it does go down that way.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

They’re going to have to do a better job than the Marlins did. If any team loses 10 or more players that will be devastating. They’re going to have to not allow these guys out during the season. They’re really going to have to monitor them closely. I don’t know how they could do it but maybe a team that gets hit particularly hard could change their BYE week to the week after they lose a few players. If they can’t do that, that team would be compromised and it would be a shame.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yep, no doubt, the Marlins showed just how not to do it, lol. As long as they can keep it from spreading through the team, a team can lose a few guys and still play, so prevention will be the best defense.

To move a missed game to a bye week, both teams playing would have to have matching byes or maybe the league can create a domino effect moving some games around if necessary. That might be tough. I’m not sure if they are doing 2 bye weeks this year or if that starts next year, but that could make it more workable.

I’m sure they have some contingencies. I seriously hope they can make it work. I really want to get into our new team and see what we have, not to mention Flores 2nd year which has been a letdown year for our new coaches for awhile now.

Kong – I have a friend that for some reason just wants the whole world to shut down. I don’t know if it’s because he feels it’s unsafe for sports to be played and that’s the reason why but I can’t take his posts any longer. He posted something like “Nail #2 in the 2020 MLB coffin”. When the Yankees game was cancelled. I flat out asked him what kind of pleasure he derives from this. Even if it’s slightly unsafe, these guys have a choice to play or not to play. It’s not like there are fans in the park, I just don’t get what his major malfunction is. He hasn’t answered BTW

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I know a few people like that as well. Some people would joyfully watch and clap as the world burns so long as they predicted it. It doesn’t really bother me. I just hold them in contempt, lol.
