Miami Dolphins 2021 Draft haul

No puff piece, or rah-rah cheerleading in this post. If you want that, stop reading and find another fan site. It’s not that I think we had a poor draft, we didn’t. I suppose my expectations seem to always exceed what we eventually accomplish in the draft. We seem to always be set up for a huge and successful haul with a bevy of picks and somehow we manage to deflate that big balloon of happiness. Each pick of the first 4 were good picks, but I could easily say 3 of the 4 weren’t picked where they should have been picked. We set ourselves up to get a few different players at #6, but I’d be lying if I didn’t expect either Kyle Pitts, or much more likely Ja’Marr Chase to be available there. They weren’t. With WR a huge need in my opinion, and apparently the Dolphins braintrust as well, we selected Jaylen Waddle. Very nice player, who could have easily made it to 10 or even 12. The more I think about it though, he’s actually a great fit here, so instead of trying to replace DeVante Parker with Ja’Marr Chase, we got a player who can be like Albert Wilson was for us before his injury, a guy that can take any pass to the house. In addition, he’s a great return man with steady hands, so no more holding your breath with Grant on punt returns.

I knew we were taking Jaelan Phillips, and I do feel it was the right pick, right place. He could really help this defense, a guy that can potentially make everyone else better. He’s a true technician and much more than just a 40 time or a great vertical or a quick step. While he has all of those abilities, he knows how to play the game and is no one trick pony. Can’t wait to see him in our defense, Flores is gonna love this kid.

Jevon Holland was a bit of a surprise, I didn’t see that coming. If I were in charge, I would have made sure we got that first pick in RD 2 and secured Javonte Williams. I felt like Trevon Moehrig was universally considered the best S in the draft and yet here we were taking Holland really early, at #36. I think I like Piggy’s description best, “He’s Minkah without the Fuckface”. I can live with that. We may have missed with Iggy last season, or maybe he shows up big this year. We’ll see what happens with Holland, and see how much and where we use him. Hope he proves worthy of such a high pick.

Next pick just 6 picks later at #42 after trading up was Notre Dame LT Liam Eichenberg. Nice player, I kind of expected a center before an OT but see the need there as well. He will probably shift to RT and be in competition with veteran Jesse Davis. I hope he plays well and becomes a bookend with young Austin Jackson. Heck, I’m still concerned with relying so heavily and Matt Skura. I didn’t care for that signing and now at this point, we have to pray he’s better than he was with the Ravens. I respect the Ravens as an organization that runs a tight, buttoned down ship. If they make you walk the plank there, they probably made a wise decision. Maybe it was a wake up call he needed, or maybe they were right. Time will tell.

We took another OT at pick #231, Larnel Coleman. Our savior RB finally came in at pick 244, in Cincinnati RB Gerrid Doaks. Doaks is a big powerful runner, who fumbles. Not a great combination. We’ll see if this kid can make all the roster cuts. To me it’s a shame we waited so long to address this but such is the life of an NFL fan.

I don’t do draft grades. I think we greatly improved our WR corps, I think we gave our defense a huge boost in the pass rush department. We’ll see if Holland can make our secondary, which was already excellent, even better. Maybe we found our bookend tackle in Eichenberg. Once again, I expected to make a killing in this draft, I think we just got a graze shot. It was all anticlimactic for me after the Phillips pick. Decent picks, but nothing that pumped me up. I was expecting so much more, I really was. I know, this guy or that guy gave us an A+, great . . . I look at our RB’s and see two guys who are so similar they may as well be the same guy in Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed. That’s not a bad thing, I like both of those guys, if they’re the 2 guys behind the stud. Well, no stud here friends, sorry, the draft was clean out out of top shelf talent by pick #35, because we let the Broncos jump us. With all that draft ammo, we should have been the aggressors and made it happen. Still smarting from that one.

Ultimately, a lot of our success, or failure lie in the hands of #1, QB Tua Tagovailoa. I think we got him a very nice player to work with in Jaylen Waddle. There’s synergy there already, and it’s good. He needs to have a guy he can rely on, a guy he has a rapport with and kind of understanding and unseen communication with. If DeVante Parker, Will Fuller and Preston Williams all are healthy this season, our passing game should be so much better. I’m still worried about the run game, with the 2 little guys (Gaskin and Ahmed) going down on contact every time. I know Malcolm Brown runs with more anger, but I he doesn’t impress me either. Maybe he will. Doaks is going to have to prove he can hold onto the football because if he’s running hard and fumbling easy he will be gone. Maybe Iggy Mahogany comes in this season better prepared and ready for prime time, and maybe Jevon Holland is the best safety in the draft and we look like geniuses.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Wonder, if team leadership isn’t an issue like we’ve seen in past generations, as someone stated above all but 1 Capt is gone.

Fitting what Flores wants to do seems more important

    • D says:

Team leadership is important, but more because you need an on field leader that gets that all players doing their part beats the sum of a couple studding out. Maybe team captain isnt rare to find on a team full of team first oriented players, therefore plenty could fill the role.

  2. stangerx says:

With McCain gone, there is a chance that all of our first 4 draft picks start (if you count slot WR as starting).

If that ever happened before on this team been a long while.

    • D says:

I think ya miss the point about our Receivers, there is no assigned player to a specific place. You are gonna see him in the slot, on the boundary, in the flanker role All of those previous concepts of WR’s and peing an X, Z, Slot, or whatever is old stuff. This is true for TE’s now too, they will be in the traditional Y but also as a flanker, boundary, H-Back, etc

      • D says:

Hell its true on the other side of the ball, LB is no longer WOLB SOLB, etc etc, its LB and you put them where ya need them.

      • stangerx says:

I get they will move him around a bunch, but what should I call his position…. just Waffle? 🙂

      • steveccnv says:

Follow the logic Stanger just WR🙃

      • stangerx says:

Still have a feeling that gonna be a huge difference btwn where Parker WR and Waddle WR typically line up. Was thinking Waddle would be a Bowden who often slides out wide and runs more deep routes.

    • steveccnv says:

Yeah, you usually don’t get 4 picks top 50.

Last year we had more picks early and often, but filled less skilled positions, so the results weren’t easily apparent, this year hope to see them hit the ground running

  3. steveccnv says:

In next years draft we’ll likely have an extra pick in the 3 rds we didn’t pick in this year 4,5,6

  4. stangerx says:

McCain didn’t have a bad year (from Bary Jackson)
    ————————————————————
McCain comes off of a very solid season. In his 503 coverage snaps, McCain was second best in the league in passer rating against (27.5).

Players in McCain’s coverage area caught only 5 of 10 passes for 56 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. Only Tampa Bay’s Mike Edwards had a lower passer rating against among all NFL safeties.

Overall, Pro Football Focus rated him 54th among 92 safeties. The fact McCain was ranked 60th as a run defender partly explained why he wasn’t graded higher. But because McCain often was deep downfield, he obviously wasn’t expected to stop the run near the line of scrimmage on those plays.

    • steveccnv says:

He’s like a shortstop, that makes 1 error on the year, but has no range, now compare that to Ozzie Smith that had an incredible range, but made 5 errors.

McCain played so deep that everything was in front of him, guys would catch passes, 5 minutes later McCain would come over and watch the tackle

  5. sb7mvp says:

    D,
I don’t really have any sentiment towards players unless it’s my namesake, and I understand the business. Good or bad, we just aren’t used to seeing such decisiveness in Miami from the F.O. and coaching staff. I’m guessing they are doing it so the guys can land spots quickly, but I would have liked to at least see people get beat out in camp before being released. This regime seems to know what they want and I guess they don’t need to see the competition to make the move. I don’t waste time following the cap or the dead money rules, so I’m not sure if they could have released him later and had the same or better cap savings. Like I said, we aren’t used to seeing such decisiveness in our FO. and it’s surprising.

  6. Rockphin says:

To Stanger’s question of whether you consider a slot WR as a starter, it does come into play because if the player doesn’t line up on the first snap of offense or defense then they are not logged as a “starter” Depending on which formations are used on the first offensive or defensive snap for each team some players will not be considered a starter. Nickel CB and slot WR are both examples of guys that may get more snaps than the “starters” only because of the “traditional” formations used on first down. (O-rob’s antiquated 3 yards and a cloud of dust on first down) The whole premise is wrong because MOST teams pass on first down. Last Season Baltimore was the team that ran the most of first down. They did it at a rate of 51% of first downs. NE was next at 42%

MOST teams in the league ran on first down less than 35% of the time. (almost 2/3rds passing on first down)

    • steveccnv says:

Starter at most positions on the Fins doesn’t matter, it’s all about snap count and production.

QB, OL, DB the rest rotate. You could add WR, because the starters play a lot, but so do some that don’t

    • stangerx says:

Ultimately the snap count matters far more, but starter or not is the kind of simple designation most fans care about. Seems most players do as well.

      • steveccnv says:

Don’t think the players care, unless it affects their next contract.

The fans that care are jr fans😁

      • stangerx says:

Being a starter might not impact their next contract, but sure as hell might their jersey sales and endorsements.

    • bailbondmike says:

I think we may be more in the middle this year unless we get ahead of some teams early then we may run more on first down.

      • Rockphin says:

Those are the first down stats. Almost every team ran the ball at a higher rate over all (jacksonville ran the least at 33.8% of the time so it shows that teams run MORE on 2nd & 3rd down than they do on first.

  7. bailbondmike says:

Re: The article Tim put up about the final 53. I know it was projected and we still have TC and PS to go through, but I was surprised the author listed DT Adam Butler as an odd man out.

  8. stangerx says:

    May 14-16 — rookie minicamp
June 15-17 — mandatory minicamp (everything else is voluntary till the big camp).

  9. stangerx says:

Jaelan Phillips will wish you a happy birthday for $45 on Cameo, or at least would before he got drafted. If he’s still game I’d pony that up at D&Bs. 🙂

  10. Marinofan13 says:

    Stanger,

Remember the dialogue we had a few weeks ago about Bobby McCain? Can’t say I didn’t see it coming, as you’ll recall, and it came down to his $$$ vs production. Drafting Holland sealed his fate, unfortunately. I really like McCain and I wish him much success in the future.

    • stangerx says:

Knew he was on the bubble, but didn’t expect us to draft a safety up high. If Javonte Williams was there at #36 McCain might not have gotten let go.

They sure as heck were going OL with the other pick in the 2nd. Probably would have come down to what they think about Brandon Jones. We do a lot of 3 safety sets though.

      • Marinofan13 says:

I didn’t expect a Safety that early either, but McCain’s $$$ put on him the bubble. I’m going to miss him.

      • stangerx says:

He excelled at slot. The switch might have screwed up his career. But one thing for sure is his contract was more than his play…. otherwise would have been traded. We’ll see what his next one is.

      • Marinofan13 says:

Yessir! That’s what I said a few weeks ago, too, that he excelled in the slot. I absolutely did NOT like moving McCain to Safety… and this is coming from your resident Secondary enthusiast.

Me too… I hope it doesn’t end up screwing up his career. That’s a great observation on your part, man.

  11. bailbondmike says:

M13, have you heard of Anthony Vincent on youtube?

    • Marinofan13 says:

Never heard of him before now! WOW! He’s pretty darn good! The only one I thought he butchered was Notorious BIG, but he killed the rest of ’em. This guy needs to get PAID!

    • Marinofan13 says:

This guy is SUPER talented! Thanks for sharing!

I’d like to know if he makes his own music, though: impersonations can only take one so far. He seems to have the talent to make his own album of original music without impersonating. Great voice, great tongue, great fast, great slow, and clearly brilliant.

    ——————————————————
I agree, but it may have been a clearer answer to them than it may be to us. If it wasnt clear im sure that’s the route they would have gone. They have seen what McCain has to offer over a couple years now, they know what the other guys have, minus the rookies. My guess is they know how its going to end up and just made it now because its better for both parties to move on earlier than later.

    • D says:

Also, wasnt really targeting you with that comment made about fans and players, it was just a more general statement of how we (myself included) view players, and how the league in general views them.

M13, you ever hear Portishead? I think you’d like them. Listening to them now.
    ————–
First time I’ve heard of Portishead, and I find their music to be fascinating. Gotta admit, it’s VERY dark, not necessarily my flavor, and it’s different… yet, there’s something about it I really appreciate.

Most of my music is played in minor keys, giving it a real dramatic feel… perhaps that’s what I dig about Portishead, only most of my music is at 100 BPMs or slightly greater, taking the ‘anguish’ out of the song: I sense much anguish in Portishead.

Portishead to me is like the slow ride up the big hill of a roller-coaster… mine is like the fast rush down the big hill of a roller-coaster. In short, I can dig it. Thanks for sharing, Tim!

  14. Tim Knight says:

So good ole Bobby McCain was released. Well he had a nice run as a 5th round pick. He was a good Dolphin. Wish him luck as long as it’s not against us.

  15. stangerx says:

Guess we’ll see how deep “solidarity” runs.
    ——————————————–
“Players union announced that Dolphins players “stand in solidarity” with their peers who are skipping voluntary in-person workouts this offseason because of health and safety concerns.”

    And then…..

** DeVante Parker has a $100,000 workout bonus.
** Albert Wilson and Jesse Davis have $75,000 workout bonus
** Jakeem Grant and Allen Hurns have $50,000 workout bonuses.
** Xavien Howard, Emmanuel Ogbah, Eric Rowe, Zach Sieler, Adam Shaheen and Clayton Fejedelem have $25,000 workout bonuses.

I don’t think Waddle is just a slot guy but in today’s game if you’re part of a 3 WR set that’s starting.

With the signing of Jason McCourty, I’ve the feeling we’re not going to pay the hooker who stopped by the other night for a visit.

  27. Tim Knight says:

I think Jason McCourty also brings some tutelage for the young DBs in how to play in our system.

  28. Marinofan13 says:

I’m still not over Shock G’s death, dammit. Here’s a vid I saw many moons ago, and just rediscovered it today. He was an extraordinarily compassionate man (I knew this, but I want y’all to know it).

    FUCK CANCER!

  29. stangerx says:

Works the opposite in football and baseball.
A guy like Willy Mays goes from center field to first base.
A guy like Jason McCourty goes from CB to center field.

  30. Tim Knight says:

Piggy, we’re not going to know if we made a mistake at RB until we see them play. Maybe the committee approach works out just fine. I think the OL improving has a lot to do with it.

  31. steveccnv says:

Which McCourty? The really good one or the average one

  32. bailbondmike says:

Interesting signing of Jibri Blount. He was a basketball player wanting to give the NFL a shot. Camp fodder for now.

  33. Ken says:

I think we want a roster of 53 CBs

  34. Marinofan13 says:

Are you guys ready for the cicadas? Can’t believe it was only 17 years ago.

    • Marinofan13 says:

Over here in NEPA, we get them BADLY. I was wondering if they affect you where y’all live.

What’s up? Do they affect you where you live, fellow bloggers?

      • Ken says:

They were out 17 years ago in Connecticut but not as bad as in other places

      • Marinofan13 says:

17 years ago for me, they were more annoying than anything. 34 years ago, I came back to the NEPA area, and I swear you could NOT step on one. It was BAD!

Those mofos are hella ugly, to boot.

If I were to make a sci-fi movie?: Cicada Vs Dobson Fly!!! 😀

      • Marinofan13 says:

You know who’d win, of course…

  35. New Age says:

I’m going to put on my Sour Mike shoes for a minute. I really don’t like this signing for a lot of reasons.

Old CBs are like old RBs. They’ve lost a step and Father Time doesn’t give them back. McCourty didn’t have great stats the past three years and McCain had better ones last year. McCourty had one year in Flores system, McCain has had two. If they actually use him as a CB, he will get torched. He’s a safety at this point in his life.

I don’t think McCain was great but I don’t understand just letting a dude go and picking up an inferior or similar option as his replacement. They say he is a good locker room guy. Does that mean McCain wasn’t? That’s’ the only reason I can understand this signing. Someone help me out.

Might as well let Denver draft in front of us at this point.

    • steveccnv says:

He’s an aging vet looking for a job, his old buddy Flores said, we’ll sign you for vet min, come see, if you can earn a job (speculating)

      • New Age says:

Yeah, it just seems weird to go with a really old dude when you had the same guy but younger on your roster (basically).

    • The Flying Pig says:

I would have stuck with the known commodity in McCain

  36. Marinofan13 says:

Seriously, these mofos are HUGE in my part of PA. Some of them are actually the size of pterodactyls, I swear! They fly away with small children when you’re not looking…

  37. Ken says:

McCain was not big enough to be a safety and not good enough in coverage to be a corner. He was a good backup/nickel cb. Not sure McCourty will be anything different

    • New Age says:

Same size as McCain but a lot older. It makes little sense to me.

      • Ken says:

But he has better coverage skills. To me it is a wash. Neither figure in the team’s long term future and the current level of play is probably even

  38. Tim Knight says:

I’m not sure McCourty even makes the team. I think he was brought in for his knowledge of the system. I thought he retired so that’s what surprised me about the signing. Maybe they want an on the field coach in camp and the preseason to get the young DBs up to speed. Maybe he then transitions into a coach.

  39. Marinofan13 says:

Guys, it was all about $$$. Stanger and I had both agreed that McCain was on the bubble due to his $$$, and his production didn’t match as much.

McCourty will bring more leadership and the “Patsie* way” to the team… it’s as simple as that.

  40. Marinofan13 says:

    Pig and Ken,

The first episode of “The Bad Batch” was REALLY GOOD! I hope y’all either saw it already, or will see it soon! I approve!

  41. CavalierKong says:

Steve, I’m confident the Blues will get that spot. I’m also confident we can’t beat you guys in a 7 game series unless we are at the top of our game AND we get some breaks to go our way. But I’ll be glad to make the playoffs, and if we can get a couple of wins and make you sweat it out a little bit, I’ll consider that a win, lol.

  42. CavalierKong says:

The big question for the Dolphins this year is can you field an entire team made up of DBs, WRs, and TEs? lol

  43. Tim Knight says:

Regardless of what you like and don’t like about what we did in the draft and offseason, the one thing I see is Flores wants to be dominant on defense. Jaelan Phillips is a huge addition. He’s like adding a DeMarcus Ware type player on the edge. We didn’t have that; 6-5 260, athletic, fast and strong.

If you had to pick a base, I’d lean this way.
    DE Ogbah 6-4 275
    NT Davis 6-6 330
    DE Wilkins 6-4 315
    OLB Phillips 6-5 260
    OLB Van Ginkel 6-4 245
    ILB Baker 6-2 230
    ILB McKinney 6-4 250
    CB Howard 6-1 200
    CB Jones 6-1 200
    SS Rowe 6-1 200
    FS Holland 6-1 200

I’ve read some stuff where McKinney is not just viewed as an ILB, he can move around just like Baker. This defense can get to another level with starters and depth.

    • CavalierKong says:

I can’t wait to see this defense on the field. It may have the potential to be the best D we’ve fielded since the early aughts.

    • Tim Knight says:

The pundits keep saying this is what our OL will be.
      LT Jackson
      LG Kindley
      C Skura/Deiter
      RG Hunt
      RT Eichenberg

That said, not sure yet about that because we have options, but it’s a starting point. TC will figure this out.

The one thing we’re seeing now is more depth than we had last year.

      • Tim Knight says:

Eichenberg reminds me a guy the Pats would draft. He just steps in and does the job. He’s known as a technician not so much a dominant figure. Do your job.

    • steveccnv says:

McKinney, like the rest of the LBS are just that LBS, and not plugged into inside or out, strong or weak…

The 0 cover we used against the Rams will be in full effect this year.

QB comes to the line, WTF is that D, who’s rushing, where’s the Mike…

Chargers got destroyed too, with the confusing looks, and why belicheat has such a good record against rookie QBs.

Herbert’s 2 worst games were against us and the cheats, for obvious reasons.

This D will be the 2020 version on steroids

  44. ocalarob says:

i think we need a little more meat at DT and play Davis at DE

  45. ocalarob says:

Aaron Rodgers too Miami, you heard it here first!

  46. ocalarob says:

        doesnt look stupid
        BUT, it

  49. Rhino says:

When Holland was drafted the first thing I did was look up his height compared to McCain… Flores still has prototypes.

Signing McCourty allows Ross to save some money on jerserys … remove the -ain, add -ourty … put them back on the rack. McCain seems to have been a $$ in context of long term fit kind of move.

    • Rhino says:

That said, McCain had some big moments when our defense looked lost (pre-Flores) and he was very productive.
As many of you already had noted, however, Bobby doesn’t have the speed to play the way Flores wants our DBs to play. He will land with another team for sure.

      • steveccnv says:

Don’t know about very productive, but he sure up a hole, when moved to S.

He was the gateway S, until a bigger better one came in, we have that now

  50. steveccnv says:

If this was 1970 and McCourty was brought in, no one would bat an eye, but in the info over load era we try to make something of every signing.

He’s no different in the grand scheme of things than an undrafted rookie FA, he’ll have to earn a roster spot in camp

  51. Phindog says:

ORob, We don’t have the cap space for Rogers so that’s not happening. It’s Tua time !!
David, Why do you continue to attack people on this blog ? O Rob can easily pick you up by one ankle and shake you upside down and take your lunch money, then drop you in for a swirly. I don’t get why I have to read the same shit every morning to start my day.

    • steveccnv says:

We can backload a Rodgers contract and make a few moves to fit him in, if they really wanted to.

It would be the equivalent to Brady going to the Bucs last year, and give us a great chance for an all FL SB.

Why not trade for Rodgers? He’ll be 38 in Dec, it would give us a shot at a title the next 4 years, especially with our D

      • steveccnv says:

With that said think the Rodgers story was a bunch of BS, he isn’t going any where

  52. Mike E. says:

Tim – I can see both our offense and defense exactly as you portrayed them. It definitely looks nice on paper. Also, thanks for leaving out the RB’s. LOL

  53. steveccnv says:

Looking back at Grier’s drafts since becoming GM, nothing has been that great, 2021 we’ll see, but he did sign Flores

David, Why do you continue to attack people on this blog ?

    Thanks bro,

for me i think it’s time for a vacation from this trollish site.

  55. steveccnv says:

What if Holland is our starting FS, then moves down to slot CB in the nickel, and Jones comes in to play FS?

    Iggy would be the dime

I like Rowe as the SS, good thing it isn’t 1980

For me that puts us right at the top of the NFL for DB

If we can’t get pretty good pressure and somewhat stop the run, we may have the #1 D

  56. steveccnv says:

Flores must’ve been pulling his hair out with McCain at FS.

His scheme confuses the QB into throwing the ball up, but instead of having a ballhawk back there he had McCain playing in the next county.

Maybe Coleman or Iggy can hold down slot CB and Holland can sit back there and roam, but anyway you slice it we ain’t letting Beasley kill us in the slot

  57. steveccnv says:

Think every move made on D, including KVN was done, because Allen destroyed us week 17.

If Buffalo had just rested their starters in a meaningless game, the Kraken wouldn’t have been released. No one to blame, but themselves😝

  58. CavalierKong says:

I doubt Rodgers is coming here, but for the sake of conversation-

The Packers reportedly want two 1sts and a 2nd. We have the draft capital over the next two years to do that easily, and it would still leave us a 1st in 2023. In regards to contract, I was reading we are going to have a minimum of 40 mil next year (maybe more depending on the cap). It’s doable.

This is a move similar to Peyton to the Broncos and Brady to the Bucs. Each of those teams got a ring. It could net us a SB as well.

If Rodgers does move on, my money would be on the Broncos.

    • CavalierKong says:

In this scenario, we don’t even have to trade Tua. He could sit behind Rodgers for a couple of years. Of course that might make his majesty pouty and mad. He’s already thrown a fit over his previous HC and now his current GM, so he might make it a condition to come here that there be no backup QB. 🙄

  59. bookman11 says:

    ORob,

Don’t convict the site as a whole because of one poster’s antics. Ignoring ignorance is your best bet.
It does remind me of Home’s obsession with Tim on the SS site though, kind of makes you wonder..hmmmmm…..

    • ocalarob says:

No Home was way smarter than David,
Ignoring him doesn’t seem to work
what if i returned the insults? what if every time David posted i totally insulted and argued with him? that would make for a very unpleasant dialogue for the rest of you wouldn’t it.

what if i attacked the pig & Mike that way constantly, they wouldn’t stand for that? yet they have nothing to say when it’s not directed at them.

eventually you will have to read thru all that mess because that’s where it’s going

If i ran this site an i had some crazy individual disrupting it i would definitely correct the issue.

David should be told to stop that shit or just suspend him temp for a short time.

      • Mike E. says:

OK, since you voiced your complaint here too, here’s your answer. I hardly have any time to come here to enjoy this place anymore, I’m too busy. If I can’t come here to enjoy it, I can’t come here to play referee either. You can either man up and ignore him, or respond back to him, your choice. Sorry bud, that’s the reality of the situation.

      • ocalarob says:

        FUCK YOU YOU LITTLE SHRIMP!

      • D says:

I tend to agree with Mike here. My perspective is that you don’t seem to need “defending” man. I think you are more than capable of handling issues with David. Hell he takes shots at me sometimes, i don’t even know if he truly means to, or not, but even if he does what’s the real gravity of that. I mean its not going to affect your life in any grand sense.

I do agree with taking a break from places that aren’t bringing you any happiness though, but that’s just self preservation and it helps, i have done it before as you know. I guess for me i don’t like that anyone is made to feel uncomfortable here, but i cant see a one of us that cant really handle our own shit without the mods getting involved.

      • D says:

Oh, and i don’t any place that has a bunch of competitive males as its main audience that doesn’t have a good bit of ribbing and trolling going on. This site is actually better than most i have ever been involved in.

      • stangerx says:

I’ll never understand why people constantly bounce the weights off their chest while doing a free-weight bench press: it defeats the purpose of the workout, and it cheats the results. Perhaps the NFL should go to a ‘universal’ bench press, where players can’t cheat.

Whenever I was doing a free-weight bench press, I did ‘neck presses’. That’s right… down to my Adam’s apple and back up. That way, people knew I wasn’t cheating. *ALWAYS HAVE A SPOTTER WHEN DOING THIS!!!*

Not only was this free weight and off-center, but it made me that much stronger.
    —————————————————————–
Depends on the purpose of the exercise. If its for a workout, yeah you are right, target is supposed to be the upper half of the pec controlled movement, in fact its best to not even touch the chest, stop just short.

My workouts use to include halves and fulls, i called them 7’s because thats the number of reps i did of each. It was 7 half reps that were just locking outie half way down to full lock out of the elbows, then ones that were from just the chest to half way up, finishing with 7 fulls. You would more muscles in isolation if you do it that way. I also did my curls this way.

Still when they do the competitions and are going for number of reps, they use the bounce to help extend their mucles and keep them from fatiguing. I don’t like it either, but if they did it more controlled, they wouldnt get as many reps.

Another trick, just depending on the muscles you want to target, is to widen your grip. A lot of times my sets were also staggered, narrow wide narrow wide on my hand placement to get more chest on some and more tri and back on other.

    • D says:

Oh and those machine presses myight help prevent the bounce aspect, but they are not as realistic to strength as the free weights which show more of a total upper body strength, and not just specific muscle groups which the universal machines tend to isolate more.

  61. Mike E. says:

    Rob – That’s very hurtful!

  62. stangerx says:

Here’s a Q — when we go with 4-3 will Phillips be at DE? And I’m not talking when he moves up pre-snap.

  63. Mike E. says:

    LOL @ D
