2021 Season – Game 1 – Dolphins @ Patriots

The roster has been trimmed to the 53 man roster and our team is ready to begin the 2021 NFL season, it’s longest season ever, 17 games. The Dolphins head to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough to face off against their long time division rival New England Patriots. Bill Belichick always has a surprise and this season it was cutting then starting QB Cam Newton to make way for the newly drafted QB of the future, Mac Jones. By doing so, Belichick has now enabled a division of fine young QB’s, most drafted within the first 10 picks of their respective drafts, except Jones who fell to #15. Josh Allen, the elder at 25 (Pick #7), Tua Tagovailoa next at 23 (Pick #5), Mac Jones who just turns 23 today (Pick #15) and the baby of the group, Zach Wilson who is 22 (Pick #2). This should make the AFC East a competitive division for some time.

On to the Dolphins roster. We speculated for months as to how it would shake it and we all got it mostly right, but there are always surprises. The first bomb was LB Benardrick McKinney getting released. I’d say the second biggest surprise to me was WR Lynn Bowden going on IR and out for the season. It was a good move which allows us to stash him for another season, but it also makes you wonder if the kid has it or not. Next year will almost surely be his last chance. OLB Vince Biegel also went on the IR ending his season as well. WR Allen Hurns was also shelved on the IR with a wrist injury which made their decision to keep 6 WR’s relatively easy. I did think Kirk Merritt would make the 53 but he ended up on the PS. So, this our roster now . . .

So that’s the 53 man roster and this year the practice squad has been expanded by the NFLPA and the NFL accordingly to 16 players, including veteran players. Our PS consists of . . .

DE Jason Strowbridge, WR, Kirk Merritt, C Cameron Tom, RB Gerrid Doaks, RB Patrick Laird, QB Reid Sinnett, DT Durval Quieroz-Neto, OL Adam Pankey, LB Shaquem Griffin, DE Jabaal Sheard, CB Tino Ellis, WR Brandon Powell, LB Calvin Munson, LB Milo Eifler, OL Kion Smith, CB Javaris Davis.

So the Dolphins travel to New England, which formerly was a house of horrors, but we have been flipping that script in recent years. We did lose last season to Cam Newton and the RPO for which we had no answer 20-11. We upset the Patriots 27-24 in ’19 with a Fitzpatrick to Gesicki TD with :24 seconds remaining. In ’18 we were massacred 38-7 with HC Adam Gase, as if we expected any different. Gase in over his head at every stop in the NFL as head coach. I’m hoping we have something closer to the 2019 game, but I’d like to beat them by at least a TD, send them a message! The Patriots will have their new QB along with 2 new TE’s, Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry, as well as WR Nelson Agholor. I would expect both TE’s to get a lot of looks as BB tries to exploit mismatches. Besides, the TE is a young QB’s best friend. On our side on offense I expect us to have long drives moving the chains with a good combo of rushing and passing, and I expect our TE’s to be busy as well, along with RB Myles Gaskin getting lots of touches in the rushing and passing game. Both defenses will be similar in approach. Create pressure from where it’s not too obvious, disguising blitzes and pass rushers. I want to see a crisp game from our squad and most of all I want them to make Mac Jones look very bad. We don’t him gaining confidence beating a better team in game 1, and yes, I said we’re the better team. Instead, I want the new Tua to have a great game and give NE a taste of what’s to come for the next decade or so of Miami Dolphins dominance!

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

    Remember him

  2. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Gesicki is basically a WR that also plays in-line. That’s it. Our coaching staff is smart enough to play him to his strengths, not focus on the fact he’s not the best blocker on the team.

Our coaches are entirely capable of disguising tendencies with Gesicki on the field if they feel it’s necessary. We’re not trading him, for the same reason we’re not trading our top WR just because when he’s on the field in a 5 WR set, it telegraphs that we’re throwing it, lol.

And to be honest, at some point last year, I read his blocking was much improved in 2020, so I don’t even necessarily believe the premise that he’s some huge liability as a blocker to begin with. Maybe he’s still not a good blocker, but there are gradations there. It’s not just good/bad.

  3. MIami has 5 TE, Gesicki doesnt have to do much blocking, he has great catching ability, can make the one handed catch over the middle, over the shoulders, or the contested jump catches.

then he likes to stiffarm for extra yards after the catch, whats not to like about a guy like that, Gesicki gets the chunk yards

  4. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Does anyone rip on Darren Waller? All he does is get targets in the passing game, lots of them. Does anyone in Las Vegas give a fuck that he doesn’t block that much? If Gesicki got 145 targets, I’d be ecstatic! He wasn’t drafted because he’s the best blocker in the NFL, those guys become O-linemen. This is the new NFL where TE’s are drafted to catch the football because they’re fast, big, and high point the football. Sorry it’s not 1970 anymore. lol

    Goodnight all, work early tomorrow!

  7. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I have always preferred that my TEs can block and catch. I would have drafted the kid Baltimore drafted. But, that’s just me. Just like with the OL, I’ve had to kind of change the way I view or evaluate TEs. As MikeE said, it’s not 1970 anymore. If you happen to get a guy like Kittle who is great in both phases…then you count yourself lucky….but usually guys these days are good at one or the other. It’s weird how everyone has freaked out about how phenomenal Kyle Pitts will be and how they love him. He is not a blocker. Well, Gesicki is the same sort of player. Pitts may have the potential to be much better, but they are the same sort of player. If you’d love to have Pitts on your team, why would you not want Gesicki? He’s not my kinda TE, but he is the sort of TE that is becoming very valuable in today’s NFL.

  9. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we pass 80% of the time when Gesicki is in the game

  10. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

this is why we drafted a TE and have not negotiated with Gesicki

  11. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

It’s just a matter of understanding the moves being made in relation to our roster, for what reason did we make Hunter Long the 81st selection in the draft? especially with Gesicki in a contract year.
why haven’t we tried to resign Gesicki to a team friendly deal?

why is that? it made me take a hard look at Gesicki.

seeing his inability to block and him telegraphing our offensive scheme is what i came up with.

and that’s why i would think he’s playing his last year in Miami.

    just an educated guess.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

So far, Long is pretty far behind being injured. He’s not stealing Gesicki’s job and he has a lot of work to move up the depth chart period.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

forget about long, he’s a rookie, he’ll get better.
the real question is; what is the FO thinking behind their moves?
drafting a TE, not resigning Gesicki.
no matter how much you like the guy you have to question the reasoning behind these moves.

  12. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Good ole Sonny was right after all. He said Jesse Davis was going to start at RT, and there is Jesse Davis starting at RT. Good job Sonny!

M13, you out there this morning?

  17. game one is tomorrow, the season is finally here!

  18. i wish i could forget the governments role in 911, it brings out alot of anger and pain, 3 buildings were brought down by thermite, controlled demolition

and thousands perished, while the government lied to us and told us Afghanistan and Iraq were responsible for it

but i will never forget the innocent loss of life, they were American heroes and martyrs

  19. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Less than 31 hours to go

  20. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I was busy cursing out Bush and Cheney for allowing it to happen
    ——————————————–
Yeah right, like that is what was going through your thick skull when you saw those buildings collapsing.

Bush had been in office less than 9 months since being inaugurated. The planning for 9/11, per Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, started in 1996 while Bill Clinton was president.

Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda had free reign in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sudan, Yemen, etc. in the 90’s and was in all out war against America during Clinton’s 2 terms.

The year Clinton was elected for his first term, you must have forgotten, was the first time Bin Laden struck with the WTC bombing one month after he was inaugurated. Eight months later, the Battle of Mogadishu happened (Operation Gothic Serpent). You may know it by the “Black Hawk Down” movie. The Somali fighters were trained by Bin Laden/Al Qaeda.

Fast forward to 1998 to the US Embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya by Bin Ladin/Al Qaeda. This was a couple years after Bin Laden was pushed out of Sudan.

All this went down on Clinton’s watch including the planning and preparation for 9/11.

It would be like you to immediately point fingers on that day at someone you don’t like instead of being concerned about all those people being instantaneously murdered or wondering who the perpetrators are. No, you are going to point your Arsenio Hall finger and go wan, wan, wan.

    Go on ahead, agendaman. SMMFH

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Way to piss on a day where we should be remembering the ones who died and bickering and pointing fingers

      • You are starting an argument today, Not Me

im not the reason for the 20th anniversary of 911 being a shitty day

i honored the loss of innocent Americans, and called them heroes and martyrs, but i will not honor the architects of it, and will not honor the ones that put us in afghanistan for 20 years over it

  21. lol

you are assuming way too much, i didnt forget about clinton and the other events You described

and today is 9-11 anniversary, so i only spoke of that event

But nanothermite took down towers 1, 2, and 7, they fell at free fall speed into their own footprints, and the government lied to everyone, blamed iraq and afghanistan for it

but WHO placed the nanothermite in the 3 buildings? why was nano thermite discovered at the scene of the collapses? why did hundreds of firefighters discuss multiple explosions ?

how is it possible that 2 planes made 3 buildings collapse into their own footprints?

    its not

  22. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I definitely respect all the people who tried to save victims that horrible day and want to honor the fallen Americans who didn’t deserve such horrors. I hope survivors are doing better and wish them all the best. It is definitely a day of mourning and introspection.

I watched it at work and was horrified and angered. We closed early and I wanted a military response to the terrorism. I was happy we invaded and wanted the Afghans punished for harboring a criminal. It was a base response without necessary forethought involved. Our government gave us what we wanted, but they also abused the results of that horrible day to steal rights and put us in a 20 year war that was completely worthless and a travesty for all who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ronald Reagan still said it best. The most terrifying words ever spoken are, “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” Smaller government is the answer if we ever look for it. I feel that even more strongly today than I did after the Patriot Act was passed. Our government never fixes shit.

  28. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Rob, I don’t know if you keep up with much college football other than the teams you like.

I want to give Tua this year to prove himself. If you end up being right about Tua (I hope you are not), one of the guys I like in the 2022 draft is Grayson McCall of Coastal Carolina. That is if he enters. He is a redshirt sophomore.

Yeah, small school, but so was Josh Allen (Sorry Wyoming). He did beat 2 ranked teams last year starting as a freshman.

First off, he is 6’3. lol He can run but most of all he is accurate. As a freshman he completed 68.8% of his passes with 26 TD’s and 3 INT’s. Rushed for 569 yards with 7 TD’s rushing. This season, through 2 games, he has completed 82.5% of his passes with 3 TD’s and 0 INT’s. Though, only 40 yards rushing with 1 TD.

He should be on your QB watch list if you have one.

Forget about the small school stuff and just watch his mechanics, as a freshman even. Watch. His footwork is excellent and has a very quick release. He has a strong arm. Watch how quickly he sets and rifles the ball on the money. Also extremely accurate on soft touch throws. He can make any throw to all areas of the field.

As a huge critic of Tua’s mechanics, I think you would love McCall’s in comparison. This kid is the real deal!!!

  29. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I think we have 13dbs, a lack of lbers,

without a doubt Tua’s low release played a huge role in his ineffectiveness last year. will it rear its ugly head again??

stay tuned to this channel, the answer will reveal itself tomorrow.

College football sucks, it’s Alabama every year, then everyone else

The only goal for the year is try to find 4 teams to keep Bama out of the playoffs, they may lose 1, but that’s it, so 4 teams have to go unbeaten

Clemson already lost, so they can’t keep Bama out

They need to change some rules so Saban can’t monopolize NCAAF

And when get all the way down to the separate more museum part (you’ll get what I mean when are there) do not skip the video presentation. Powerful as powerful. Not ashamed to admit I cried, especially since pretty much everyone else was.

The audios of the final calls from the people on Flight 93 just got me. Despite all they were facing, they knew was probably their last words to their loved ones. That some tried to down play as “no big deal” and others flatly saying “I love you but this it” made it even worse.

Ohio State v Oregon is a pretty good game of your you like points

  40. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Of course he looks great, that’s why they call them HIGHLIGHTS

    Consider the competition too
    —————————————————-
I am not talking about highlights or the competition. Josh Allen played against the same level of competition. I guess he is JAG.

I guess we should cut Elijah Campbell, Jesse Davis, Robert Hunt, Robert Jones, Greg Mancz, Nik Needham, Zack Sieler and Albert Wilson since they are all JAG and didn’t play against any “competition” in college.

I guess Tony Romo and Joe Flacco never should have been given a chance. Jerry Rice? Certainly not. Oh, and Jason Taylor from University of Akron? No way, he’s JAG cause he didn’t play against nobody.

Back to my first sentence. I was talking about his talent and mechanics. Fucking HIGHLIGHTS (as you put it) or not, you can evaluate a QB’s mechanics no matter what tape you look at and no matter what competition he is playing against.

Not every player in the NFL played at Alabama.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Seems both QBs tmrw are Bama guys. I’m really hoping for a “Welcome to the NFL” day for one of them. Thinking a bunch of blitzes on passing downs.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Didn’t say small school guys couldn’t make it in the NFL, just said consider the competition

Some guys wilt under pressure and their mechanics break down

Most NFL QBs are awesome when there’s no rush, but its the guys that can make something happen, when the protection breaks down, that are having the most success now

I saw something that says he is a 5th year Junior. Did he redshirt as a freshman and last year not count? Does not make any sense.

He is interesting. You’d think he would be one of those quick little backs but he actually packs a punch at 5’8 211 pounds.

I hear the Ramada Inn’s not bad and has had a management change…..lol. Not!

Transportation. The ride to and from the stadium is usually a meet up with everyone in a chartered van or two to the game.

Hope that’s happening this year, too!

Not sure how everyone gets to D&B, as I always have a car.

      Cheers!

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

The meetup for the charter to the game was Margaritaville. Within walking distance if you’re staying in the vicinity.

Not sure if this is still the plan.

Bookman11….if you’re on or near the Hollywood Beach Boardwalk between or near Hollywood Beach Blvd and Sheridan Ave you will be around most. Some stay at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville

  70. Ocean Drive is the name of the north south corridor in Hollywood, but i have often heard it called Hollywood beach Drive

of course, there are alot of babes wearing tiny thongs down there, enough to not worry about what the street name is, lol

  71. i hope the steelers beat the bills today, should be a good game

  72. The Dolphins game will be on CBS, and Paramount for subscribers

Chris Simms, come on man! Did you go to the Stephen A Smith School of Logic?

Yeah, Tua looked good in PS, but…he has the cheats making the playoffs, but not us, because he needs to see more from Tua, but he’s fine with Jones

Well Fitz saved the day a bunch of times… Once and failed once, with an int at the goal line

  83. went to first watch for breakfast, tried the pumpkin pancakes

in all other visits to first watch, they knocked it out of the park, food is always spot on, and excellent presentation

but now they cant get any help, even with the now hiring signs with $200 signing bonus doesnt seem to help, food is cold, service is slow, and the orders are mostly wrong, lol and smh

the pumpkin pancakes were so dry, they tasted like cactus pancakes, lol

i made better ones on my first attempt! but its good to see what the competition is doing

Here’s a couple “gut feeling” predictions for Fins today:

    1. Gaskin 150+ all purpose yards
    2. Waddle with a TD from more than 20 yards out after he touches the ball.
    3. Defense gets 3 sacks and 2 picks and a ton of QB hurries (call it 7)

Too much Matt Jones jock sniffing from talking heads this weekend. Jones is gonna get hit with stuff he hasn’t even seen on FILM yet.

  85. NFL Bite is working good, just have to close out all of the annoying ads for sports betting

My grandbaby was over here last night, and we played until almost 3 in the morning. She slobbered all over my Dolphins game ball. The ball is now christened, the stage is set, the prognostication clear. Dolphins win.
