So who does kick off returns and who does punt returns?

Thinking the main suspects are Waddle and Holland.

  2. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I wouldn’t care a bit about this cause would still have a bunch of money, but have a feeling Trump will. He used to call Forbes to say he has more money than they say.
    —————————————————————–

“Former President Donald Trump was left off Forbes’ 2021 list of the wealthiest 400 Americans, the business and finance publication announced Tuesday, marking the first time in 25 years Trump has not been on the list.”

  3. grant was traded? lol

    SMH

what a dumb team, this isnt the problem , nor the reason the team is 1-3.

    the team needs better coaching

  4. a sixth round pick in 2023 was what we got, hhhhmmm

i suppose the team is more marketable to a new coach if there are some extra picks

hopefully the GM that will be here then, makes a better pick than Grier would have

  5. Grant was a second team All Pro kick returner last year, and he was traded for a sixth round pick 2 years from now?

we have to wait 2 years to draft a nobody, and wait 3 years to cut that nobody.

thats not a trade, its a step backwards again , like trading the pro bowler Minkah, for a pick that got the shitty Austin Jackson,

Grier isnt building the team, he is dismantling it

  6. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I think the Grant trade is probably supposed to be a ‘wake up call’ to the team.

Get your act together or well trade you to the central time zone…shudder.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Makes you wonder if he would have got traded absent the muff on Sunday. Was interesting given the injury to Fuller. Seems like Grant is same kind of guy.

  7. even the TUnsil trade backfired, sure we got a lot of picks, but who did we get for Tunsil?

NOBODY that is helping the Dolphins, SMH

Julien Davenport, Johnson Bademosi, Kenny Stills, Noah Iggy, and Solomon Kindley

i wouldnt trade grant for all 5 of those guys, never mind Tunsil.

we would have been better off keeping Tunsil, hes a solid OL and we dont have any solid OL guys

even Griers best moves, still turned out bad, he just doesnt have it

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      It didn’t backfire yet

Take your foot off the pedal
We haven’t recently made all the picks yet….lol

      Slow down

  8. but this move of Grier, REALLY hurts. because i like Tua, BUT

with Justin Herbert on the board, Grier went with Tua.

now Herbert is tearing up the NFL again this year, and Tua, well, sigh maybe someday

  9. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Loved Grantman but to many dropped passes and punts. Iggy can return as well as waddle.

We have a speedy WR on the PS who can do returns in Kirk Merritt and would be a better WR option than Grant anyway, IMO.

Not worried about WR depth as Williams will be back soon and we have Merritt.

  10. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

We also have WR Brandon Powell on the PS who returned punts and kickoffs for Atlanta and Detroit.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQ571jK7QXE

  11. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Grant was gone after this season anyway. We got a future pick for him so that is a plus.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Bears had already traded their 1st and 4th round picks next year to draft Fields this year and don’t have a 7th next year either. Can see why it’s a 2023. They didn’t want to give up anymore next year.

  12. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I like Grantman, but he did drop a bunch of touches. Like BBM said he was gone after next year anyway. I am not upset by the move. Better than letting him walk for no draft compensation even with the dead cap hit we are taking.

That being said, I feel like I have been complaining to the landlord about the gas leak in the kitchen and he sent someone out to repair the screen door.

  13. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It was reported we tried to trade Grant during the offseason. Not sure what made the Bears pull the trigger now though.

  14. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Kick returns aren’t even a big deal, most are touch backs anyway. But punt returns are a big deal. Waddle is a dynamic return man, but he’s also showed some issues securing the ball. Hopefully he can get that corrected.

  15. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    ——————-
If the Bears were the ones who had Grant, I would have traded a 2023 6th rounder to get him on our Phins. That compensation is a bloody joke!

Look, most of us knew Grant was in deep shit after he muffed the punt this past Sunday and we needed a sacrificial lamb. I’m alright with trading Grant (we had a very crowded WR room as was), but I’m sorry… a 6th round pick.. *shuffles the calendar ahead EIGHTEEN months*… in 2023?!!

That’s an absolutely pathetic ROI for a player coming off a 2nd-team All-Pro season. Allow me to reiterate: I have no problem trading Grant, it’s the return that kills me. I would have been happy with a 5th next year.

And YES, to whoever made mention earlier that this was a message to the players: it absolutely was.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think it’s as simple as the team wanted to move on from him. If we didn’t trade him for something it’s possible we might have cut him outright.

As a WR we know Grant has questionable hands. As for returns, I don’t think it’s so much his hands on muffed punts as much as he looks to make the big play before securing the ball and takes his eyes off the ball. I think the team had enough of that.

  16. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Isn’t it weird the Raiders/ Chargers game last night was delayed due to lightning even though it has a roof? I guess since it has open sides, it’s still considered an ‘open air’ stadium.

Maybe my knowledge of meteorology is lacking and a lightning bolt could travel sideways, making its way past everything else (including the fans in the stands) all the way to the players on the field, but that seems kind of stupid.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Best guess I have is that if the power got knocked out inside of roofed stadium, it would be pretty dark. Aside from that, I have no idea either.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Mind you, I’m thinking of player safety protocols. If the ball is in the air and the stadium goes dark due to a power outage, there could be some horrific collisions.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

That’s better than anything I came up with. My best was- whoops beurocracy, we’ll put in the appropriate exception and it won’t happen again.

  17. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

There’s a rumor going around that one of our veteran players is thinking about calling it quits at the end of the season. This rumor says it’s NOT about our Dolphins, as he’s thinking about quitting the NFL altogether (see Patrick Willis, for example).

No name was mentioned, but one of our beat reporters allegedly heard this.

  18. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Forgot to mention, with Raiders losing, the Arizona is the only undefeated team now.

  19. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Beurocracy

Wtf, why does my phone autocorrect to a non-word.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Lots of stupid shit like that happens with auto-correct. I love it when it can’t figure out the word I’m obviously going for. LOL

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Strange: whether it be on my phone, my work computer, home computer, or studio computer, “beurocracy” is never recognized as a word.

Things that make ya go hmmmmm…

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yeah, not a word, but my phone wants to correct to that word every time, and I know I never saved it that way, lol.

  20. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I would have traded Grant for Rock’s diarrhea taco. Happy we got anything for him at all. Kind of surprised we did

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      I like the trade too

But we shouldn’t be applauding it

It’s just activity – not the kind activity that gets us better anytime soon. We just have 1 less player on the roster for a future draft pick. We still have the same problems we did before the trade

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I totally get where you’re coming from Pig, but I do NOT like the compensation! Maybe I’m greedy! LOL

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think the trade had anything to do with the status of our team. We tried to trade him in the offseason and waited it out to get something. The muffed punt might have been what made us say sure a 6th in 2023 is fine.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

        I agree with you Piggy

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Dude! Seriously, we should have fetched a better return. I get you don’t like Grant, but really?

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Really he is a kick returner a good one but that’s it. He is not a good WR. He is a 1 dimensional player at one of the least important positions on the field. His contract is up and everyone knows he won’t be back. If he is truly worth what you we should be playing better.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Kick returner isn’t even that valuable being that many kicks are touch backs. But punt returner is valuable and muffing punts can change a game just as much as returning one for a TD.

  21. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

M13, if all we got for Grant was a 6th in 2023, that’s his market value. If we had released him outright you’d probably be saying we should have at least gotten something for him. LOL

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Nah, I disagree with that, too. We wouldn’t have outright released him, being he had value. We should have gotten more in return… not much more, but more. That’s my only point. A 5th rounder in 2022 would have been satisfactory to me.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well that’s not how it works. How do you get more if no team is offering more? It’s pretty obvious we wanted to move on from him. I liked Grant with some of the exciting plays he made on returns, but not enough of them as a WR to hold a roster spot just for returns.

  22. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

This franchise went downhill once we drafted Marino. Just sayin’. Dude’s a pariah, rotting this team from the inside out. lol

  23. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

  24. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Grant has as many ST TDs as WR TDs. If 4 games into Year 6 has only netted 11 TDs total , you haven’t been an impact player. He’s fumbled more times than he’s caught a TD. NEXT!!

  25. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – Look around the NFL lately. Trade compensation isn’t what it used to be. I’m actually surprised we got a 6th RD pick in any draft. Guys that used to fetch 2nd and 3rd RD picks go for 4th or 5th. Grant for a 2023 6th is like a 2022 7th. He’s a ST’s player and that’s about it, and he fumbles too damn much. Most offenses won’t trust him as a WR because even if he catches it he might fumble, and on returns they’ll hold their breath every time that he doesn’t muff the punt or fumble when he gets hit.

  26. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

A couple people were talking about trading Grant in the off season for a 3rd or something crazy like that. I know me and at least one other person said we’d get a 6th at best. This was prior to him having a good camp.

Towards the end of preseason, I figured he was going to be a bigger factor and would make the 53, but him being a bigger factor obviously ended up being wrong.

Since we were supposedly looking to trade him during training camp, I’m betting we were holding out for a better offer and said eff it, we’ll take what we can get after yet another fumble by him.

  27. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Credit where it’s due- even after Grant’s excellent camp, Ken was adamant about not wanting him on the 53 because of his fumbling issues.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Credit where credit isn’t due. I said I wanted him on the team because he’s dynamic in the return game and I could overlook his bad hands in the pass game. Too often though his bad hands show up on returns too.

  28. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Like I said, Grant was a sacrificial lamb. We had to do something, and this is what we did, in order to send a message to the players. His muffed punt-return on Sunday sealed his fate, and I posted yesterday that he’s likely gone… I was right.

Time to move on (me included), even though I don’t like the trade compensation. We’ve got to stay focused on the task at hand, and it’s a very brutal one: Tampa Bay.

  29. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

So we traded Grant. Who takes his roster spot should now be the the topic. Merritt?

  30. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

I just hope it doesn’t come we are paying a bunch of his salary going forward

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

His salary wasn’t too high to start with, but for sure the pay out provisions on the trade are not known yet.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s less than a $2M cap hit for this year. Teams eat that kind of money all the time shaping their roster. We have a good amount of dead cap coming off the books in 2022.

The main concern for this team is not cap and draft compensation. It’s about the team playing better in all three phases. If we’re going to be bad this year I’m not going to worry about anything other than being disappointed with this team. I’ll follow what we do in the offseason as usual but now it’s in full blown “show me” mode. Not sure how much I could speculate and project in a positive manner next year if we’re bad this year.

We’re 1-3 and off to a bad start. Can that turn around? Yes! We’ve seen it with our team and other teams around the league. But it all comes down to performance. We’re not going to dominate teams most of the time, we have to make more big plays. We’re making as many mistakes as big plays and that evens it out.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I’m just watch the games and see what happens.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Exactly! It’s all we can do. Watch the games, root them on and hope for the best. I’m not as worried about the record as much as how they’ve been playing. The timing of errors have always come at really bad times in the games. That has to change regardless of the lack of big plays being made.

  31. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – Would you like it on a train?

  32. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I always holding my breath every time Grant touched the ball, especially fielding punts and short kickoffs.

Glad we’ve moved on and sent a message to the team about fuck ups. I believe Colts scored on that, too! What a shitshow and we needed a sacrifice….lmao.

    Let’s get pagan about this!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      LOL @ pagan

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Lol, I like that line. Let’s get pagan. I’m going to steal that.

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Me too I couldn’t stand to watch him back there one more time. Doesn’t matter if you’re The Flash if you can’t/don’t catch the ball. I’m done with him, loved him but it’s time.
If I remember right that was after we scored then got a huge stop down only one score. He fields the punt and it starts becoming the exact kind of game we look to play, basically last score wins but not when you give away chances like that.

  36. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    Why, Merritt? Does he merit?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay we have a joker tonight. LOL

He looked good in TC and the PS. He’s a bigger WR at 6-1 214 and someone mentioned he can return licks. I forgot his 40 time but he’s pretty fast too.

  37. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Thank you, you guys are more in depth on individual players and I rely on insight from a few of you!

  38. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Let’s play a game, shall we? *in my ‘Q’ voice to Captain Picard*

    Week 4 stats…
    Player A: 66.67 CMP%, 199 Passing Yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 107.5 Passer Rating
    Player B: 65.79 CMP%, 222 Passing Yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, 107.6 Passer Rating

For close to the last 20 hours, I’ve seen all too many Dolphins fans say on Twitter that we should have drafted Justin Herbert over Tua, as they watched Monday Night Football last night.

    Player A is Jacoby Brissett
    Player B is Justin Herbert

And these same Dolphins fans on Twitter stated that Brissett F’n SUCKS. Can’t have it both ways, damned FOOLS!

I can’t stand Dolphins Twitter, seriously. And some of these people have MASSIVE followings!

Think maybe being Tua is the starter, that he’s better than Brissett? YES, he IS!

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Yes, it would be fairer to compare Brissett vs the Raiders against Herbert vs the Raiders. I get that.

But, it’s not about that… it’s about fans giving up on Tua already. SMH

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Brissett doesn’t suck. He won’t embarrass you but he won’t win you games. He’s a big QB with mobility to get out of bad plays extend the play here and there or run for a 1st down. But he’s very conservative as a passer.

Herbert played a super efficient game last night throwing 3 TDs as the Chargers run game and defense took over in the 2nd half. I lost my FF game because of that. I had Herbert and Waller going. Lost by 2. 😦

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Maybe, he doesn’t suck, but his accuracy does even with a perfect overhead throwing motion….yikes

Must be the motion that excites people and not the results….lmao!

  39. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

It’s taco Tuesday and wife and I are having friends over. Got 3 bottles of Hornitos tequila so please forgive me in advance if I post anything stupid around midnight. lol

  40. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I don’t think anyone has given up on Tua, except one here.

Back to my original concern before drafted, Tua’s physicality. Is that better than fragile?

    Trying to be nice…lol.

  41. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Tim, Merritt ran a 4.33 40, a 45.5″ vertical jump and 23 reps on the bench at his pro day. Kind of a freak!

  42. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

When things are reasonable with protection and routes, Tua processes faster than Brissett and he has a quicker release. When either one is under duress well… it looks ugly. Kind of think that’s the case with most QBs. 😉

  43. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    We need an OL, period!

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Even if you and I don’t really like each other, I will always point out a great point… I absolutely agree with ya, Krishna.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

In case you didn’t notice, I actually used your term of “sacrifice” as I thought someone should have been fired after another shitshow.

A coach needs to be next as this shitshow comes down to an undisciplined, helterskelter presence on the field. It’s fucking embarrassing!

  44. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Tim, we know what we have in Ford and he doesn’t really have return skills.

I would much rather see Kirk Merritt.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I hear ya, but I was asking what do you think we’ll do? 😉

Ford is a more seasoned WR, yet Merritt is a much more impressive athlete. For me it’s about Williams’ availability and Fuller likely being out this week. We only have Parker, Waddle, Wilson and Hollins. If it’s Merritt that’s a good sign.

  45. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

One of the cliches we hear is “don’t beat yourself”. This team has been doing that in big spots this year and that has not been common with Flores in his first 2 seasons. That’s the first thing that has to change.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

      See above…agreed!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Playing the way we are now, if we did that in 2019 or 2020 we would have won 2 and 7 games respectively instead of 5 and 10. This current roster should be better than how they’re playing. Time to tighten the bolts as coaches, and players have to play as well as they think they are.

Each player has to ask themselves; am I doing my job?

  46. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Don’t be fooled by Brissett stats he sucked ass. Just look at the 2 passes after we got the ball back after pinning the Colts deep. He missed 2 open receivers and we went 3 and out. That is where the game turned. Brissett TDs and yards were mostly in garage time when we were down by z3 scores

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Only one is fooled by his statistics this last game….he was fucking awful and can’t remember ANY QB on this team in forever missing so many throws. Perhaps I need Ocala-covered glasses….lmao.

  47. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    MF13,

Comparing those Herbert/Brisset line stats as a basis to talk about their respective talent is idiotic. Brissett scored 3 points and had something like 75-100 yards through 3 quarters. And even though he had 3 or 4 possessions at mid-field or better in the 1st half, he got absolutely nothing other than the 3 free points on a fumble that left us in fg range, because he kept missing easy throws on 3rd down to kill drives.

He got most of his numbers the last half of the 4th when the game was over, and he did nothing to help his team win.

Herbert had his team up 21-0 at half with a couple of very nice TD throws, helped his team score 28 points, got the win and actually looked good doing it.

Anyone using those stats comparatively either didn’t watch the games or didn’t understand what they were watching. It’s just throwing stats out there to make a specious point

And yesterday, you said you agreed with me that Brissett’s stats in that game didn’t mean jack squat, yet today you use it in a comparison to Herbert because the stat line looks similar. You can’t have it both ways.

Brissett’s end numbers for that game look good, but they meant absolutely nothing. Herbert’s numbers look good because he actually looked good. That is simple fact.

  48. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Watching Indian porn at one of favorite Indian restaurants….lol.

    Indian music videos…the host’s term, not mine….lmao

  49. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I can’t wait for Tua to come back. I think he’s already a better QB than Brissett. I just don’t know if he’ll survive the hits he’s going to take, especially with a not fully healed ribcage.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I think Brissett looks like Tua last year, can’t see the defense (reads), tentative, worse in terms of accuracy.

I keep overlooking his perfect overhead throwing motion….what a dick.

Otherwise, no comparison, but I yield to…..experts. lol.

Has Tua played a full season? Pretty sure Brissett has played several and he sucks!

If Tua lasts as long as Brissett, perhaps a comparison can be made….lol.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Lots of talk about Tua being fragile. Anyone questioning that go watch the play he got hurt on and tell me most QBs wouldn’t be hurt on that hit. We’ve seen the best and much bigger QBs get injured on hits like that. That play like Randy said, should never happen. As a tackle you do everything to stop that from happening even if you have to take a penalty. Kind of like don’t give up the 80 yard TD if you can keep it to less. But in this situation you’re risking your QB’s health.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m not calling him fragile. He’s coming back with partially healed fractured ribs. Do you think teams that know this are going to come after him less, or more? We are already getting our QB hit too much as it is.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Agree, Tim, but broken hip, strapped ankles, cracked ribs. The body can only take so much, depending on the body.

  50. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Brissett’s stats are blah. It takes him way too many passes to get to 200 yards in a game. He’s averaging 194. But it’s not all on him. We’ve seen what goes on. This team needs a kick in the ass and to realize why that happened.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

We have a lot more problems than just Brissett. We all know that. If the rest of the team was solid, maybe Brissett would be a fine backup game manager for a game or two.

And Tua might be the same thing as Brissett for all we know. The problem is, we don’t know. Hopefully he gets plenty of more playing time and doesn’t just get hurt again, so we’ll know what the hell we have in him.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

By solid, I hope you mean disciplined, mistake-free, hard-nosed football. All for that!

When does the season start? Lol.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s the thing. We were supposed to be watching this team with Tua. We know Brissett is not the future. The league has already decided he’s a backup.

It’s funny though, even with Tua’s ups and downs, the team wins most of the time when he plays.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Krishna, I think disciplined, mistake-free, and hard-nosed is an excellent place to start, lol.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I go with pagan sacrifice….who’s next?

  51. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Krishna, I’m just supporting and rooting for Tua. He has a lot of work to do to prove himself. It’s been a rough start physically for him. I like the guy and his potential. I’d be rooting for him if he was with another team. Just not when he plays us. 😉

Agreed, and I can hold two concepts, maybe more, in my head about someone and they’re all true….lol.

I was extremely impressed when he took over at AL, watched him a little in college, watched him get injured, show up here injured, hasn’t played a rookie season yet (mainly do to injuries and being a rookie, lol), and hope he emerges.

Cracked ribs are not fun especially on throwing side…even if he plays, sure to be some topical or that clears drug protocol. This injury may well affect accuracy in the short-term.

I’m sure some of you have experienced this injury.

      Cowboys released LB Jaylon Smith.

Smith started all 16 games for the Cowboys last season and led the team with 154 tackles, but he was frequently scrutinized for his lack of speed and, perhaps more importantly, effort. He started Weeks 2 and 3 for Dallas before playing just 40% of snaps in Week 4. The Cowboys still owe Smith $7.2 million for this season. He’s free to sign elsewhere in the meantime.

This year we’re seeing an O that isn’t suited for Brissett with atrocious results

Why would we replace the OCs before we see what Tua does in this O?

Better question might be why Brissett, when he doesn’t have the quick release it takes to run this O?

      _________________________________________________

Brissett had over a 100 qb rating vs the colts, running for his life avoided multiple sacks by moving around and creating time for his rec’s.
I doubt the QB play contributed to the loss.
more so the lack of a running game, penalties and turnovers.

Coach on Austin Reiter: more depth with Deiter going down. He has an opportunity to compete.

Coach on Jakeem: we felt like we had some depth in the WR room and we wanted to get some other guys going there and in the return position.

What coach likes about the system/gameplan: I like the communication, the collaboration. We need to do a better job across the board. Players have to execute better, we have to put them in position to execute. We’ve missed some opportunities of guys being open, guys making cuts.

Coach on what Davis’ return would mean to the run defense: I think it would mean a lot. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s hard to move inside. Hopefully we can get him a few days of practice, but I don’t like to count my chickens before they hatch.

You want to ride in a DeLorean? Just insert X for Gilmore in this piece.
    —————————————–
Gilmore inked a five-year, $65 million deal with $40 million in guarantees in 2017 — the highest ever given to a defensive player in Patriots history — and it was a deal that made him one of the league’s highest-paid cornerbacks.

At the time, it was a ton of money for a top cornerback on the market but Bill Belichick jumped early at the position and paid a premium at a time where teams weren’t paying a high price for elite cornerbacks. However, over the years, Gilmore’s deal set the market and we started to see cornerbacks paid higher and higher as the years added up.

Gilmore’s contract eventually was viewed as one of the biggest bargains across the league.

Gilmore was unhappy with his contract prior to last year and deservedly wanted a pay raise. The Patriots opted to move money from this year to last to pay the corner just about $15 million for the 2020 season.

Eichenberg, who has given candid and thoughtful responses since the Dolphins drafted him 42nd overall in April, said twice this week that he believes he’s better at right tackle than at left tackle in the NFL.
Eichenberg was asked if he’s saying that because he doesn’t want to step on Jackson’s toes or whether he genuinely believes his skill set is best suited for right tackle in the NFL. “I think Austin is a better left tackle than I would be, if I’m being honest with you,” Eichenberg said. “Just like myself, we each have things we need to work on from a technique standpoint and a fundamentals standpoint. “But for my mind-set, I think that I have been a right tackle for a couple weeks, and I personally have seen improvement in my movement and how I punch and just also from a run-blocking and pass-blocking standpoint. I think it’ll be my best position.”

Rob – being on the same side w/Omar is not really a good thing bro. 2 things, you don’t always need your TE to block. The other thing is if you draft a receiving TE who isn’t a good blocker in college then you know he may not be a good blocker in the NFL but you use him as a receiver. I know if/when Gesicki goes somewhere else he’ll have over 1000 yards receiving and about 10 TD’s year one

Comma use is a crap shoot for me, so I could easily be wrong, but since it isn’t addressed to Tom, I think you don’t need a comma there.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Nevermind, I just looked it up. there should be a comma there.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Since we are going grammar — I believe should be a semicolon. The underappreciated punctuation mark.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Nevermind my nevermind. If not directly addressed, it could be correct both ways depending on the context of the sentence.

This is why I don’t know comma rules.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Stang, after ‘play’, I think you’re right. The only rule I know about semi-colons is they can always be replaced by a period.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Semicolon separates what otherwise would be two independent sentences. So yeah a period would work as well. They tend to be short ones connected in thought though…which is why you use it. But they are also well known to ruin jokes. 🙂

  82. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

This is how messed up comma usage is. From the website listed below:

Correct: My friend Jane has a lot more gardening experience than I do.

Correct: My friend, Jane, has a lot more gardening experience than I do.

“So what’s the difference between the the two correct versions?”

“No commas around a name or title indicate that it is essential to the meaning of a sentence – the sentence will not make sense in context without it.”

“Commas around a name or title indicate that it is NOT essential to the meaning of a sentence – the sentence will make sense in context without it.”

    https://thecriticalreader.com/commas-names-titles/

So because that sentence makes sense either way, based on the context of the writer’s intent, “Jane” might be essential to the sentence or might not, therefore you would, or wouldn’t, use commas… L,M,A,O,
