Once again my fellow Dolphins fans, we have to endure another period of time where our team is in the news for all the wrong reasons. This was supposed to be the weeks of excitement about finding the right Head Coach to lead our team to success for the next decade or so. Instead, we’re left with accusations against our owner, GM and team which could hurt our chances of securing the right candidate for our Head Coach vacancy. In 2013 we had the “Bullygate Scandal” while Joe Philbin was our Head Coach. Now in 2022, we have the “Tank Scandal”, where our recent former Head Coach Brian Flores alleged that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offered Flores an extra $100K per game if the Dolphins lost in 2019 in order to secure a high draft pick.
Of course it matters whether these things are true or not, but the fact is, even if they aren’t, the damage is done. The NFL is not going to help us in any way if they find no wrongdoing. We’re damaged goods regardless. Controversies tend to linger around things even after the air has supposedly been cleared. The Jacksonville Jaguars are about to hire Doug Pederson as their Head Coach. Jim Harbaugh who was never interviewed by our Dolphins has told Michigan he’s returning for the 2022 season. Eric Bieniemy is getting another crack at an interview with the New Orleans Saints. The Dolphins will be interviewing both Mike McDaniel and Kellen Moore. I honestly wonder what is going through both of these guy’s minds considering the state of the Dolphins Franchise.
If there is any evidence that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross tried to incentivize HC Brian Flores to purposely lose games there will be significant punishment. I don’t know if Ross will be the sole recipient of said punishment or if the NFL will punish both the owner and the team. Obviously, the great majority of us would prefer they take the team away from Ross and leave the Dolphins Franchise alone. We’ve been through enough. Punishment such as taking away numerous draft picks would hurt. I feel like our roster is getting closer and a strong free agency along with with a good draft could really improve our roster. Take away a handful of draft picks, maybe our 1st RD picks this year and next and the next, and that hurts us badly because we have multiple picks next season in ’23 which would give us some nice flexibility to stand pat with two 1st rounders or move up if some reason if we decide to get a QB. It wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it would be unfortunate to fans who get punished so often by bad management of this team over the last couple of decades. We could use a break.
I feel like we’d be lucky to get Mike McDaniel at this point, and I’d be happy if we do. I made it clear that none of the candidates, with the exception of Jim Harbaugh really excited me, but McDaniel would be my preference out of who is left. Let’s get our Head Coach and then we’ll sit back and watch the drama unfold. Nothing would make me happier to find out Flores was just a spiteful, lying sack of shit and manufactured this whole story to drag the Dolphins through the mud after being jilted by the NY Giants, his dream job. BTW, I think his other allegations are very thin at best, against the Broncos and even more against the Giants. We know Bill Belichick is NFL royalty, but his word doesn’t mean squat here. He’s not employed by the New York Giants and I think those texts are meaningless to everyone except Bill Belichick, Brian Flores, and Brian Daboll who now probably feels bad for Brian Flores, or maybe he doesn’t and is reveling in this silliness.
I’d be lying if I were to say I’m confident that we’re clean. I don’t hate Stephen Ross like some of y’all do, I think he spends a lot of money trying to improve this team. Yes, he’s gone about some things the wrong way, especially for such an established businessman. We know he courted Jim Harbaugh while Tony Sparano was still the Dolphins Head Coach. So is it possible that Stephen Ross offered Flores money to tank to get a franchise QB, of course it is. I feel that Ross’s reputation could hurt us here in an investigation. We’ll see how this all plays out. It would be great to come out on top for a change.
As many of you already know, our friend Jon “Stanger” has been released from the hospital and is now doing inpatient physical and occupational therapy, which could be approximately a 2 week gig. It’s amazing how far he’s come and now the light really is close at the end of the tunnel. So happy for him!

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

With a shitty arm too?
This was supposed to be a reply to Tim’s Kellen Moore post
I figured that. Run game, accurate/mobile QB and defense. You can win like that. 🙂
Dont know why it wont post it but i just saw the Jesus and Mary Chain is still around making music and was gonna post one of the newer ones, still pretty solid band.
Reason says McD to be our HC
Anthony Lynn is being hired as assistant HC for SF and be a key cog in the offense and run game
Kellen Moore preparing his lawsuit
Yeah that is a clue or hint. There are only 3 HC job openings left. Dolphins, Saints and Texans.
FYI

D, I dig some of the 70’s/80’s punk/new wave. Grew up with it. I love a lot of music.
Now for something completely different.
Holly crap, we have rain/snow coming down here at my office. Mostly wet snow. It’s been a few years down here since we have seen any. I’m going to stand outside and have a cig. lol
It’s colder than a witches tit here. I haven’t check for snow but the mist earlier was crispy
Here ya go

TIm, that article you posted took me from a 2.5 to a 3. lol
I looked at it like who was a 4?
D, most of the precip has moved out of your area. Actually, the line is through Fairhope where there is a mix coming down looking at the radar. It’s just small bursts here and there.
Crazy that it is raining in parts of Montana right now and we have snow mix here on the panhandle of FL.
Currently 6 degrees here in Sioux Falls, SD. Warmed up…not as cold as it has been the last few days.
Good write Mike E , and great news on Stanger… so happy for him and Maryanne…

Anyone here watch the show Goliath on Amazon?
We binged it about a months ago… episode one we looked at each other and said give it one more , see if it gets better … it did .. really like Billy Bob… season 3 (I think) I found a little creepy .. but in the whole it was a good watch ..
Just finished Yellowjackets season one , also a little weird kind of a female Lord of the Flies look to it ….
And final season Wentworth dropped .. good show … more or less wrapped it up nicely ….
Should prolly head to bed now … 😊
Season 2 was off the charts crazy (Goliath). It’s just a very dark show altogether, but I like it. I’m watching season 4 which dropped a few weeks ago. Still dark, still weird, but that’s the show. We watched Yellowjackets. Also pretty dark. Wacthed a couple of Harlan Coben series on Netflix, “Stay Close” and “Safe”. Both were very good.
I keep getting this feeling we go with the unpopular Moore and he turns out to be a blessing in disguise. Or he could be a total dumpster fire and the team moves to South Dakota under new ownership.
“Get ready to cheer for your new Miami Dolphins…the South Dakota Mt Rushmores!!”
This is an interesting video of Gruden’s QB camp with Kellen Moore before he even played in the league. Gruden’s literally talking to him and describing him like he’s Tua. “lack of prototypical size, athleticism, and speed”, knocking his arm, but brings up anticipation and accuracy.
I’ve mentioned it before, but I like Moore’s demeanor on the sideline. He looks like a leader and someone who’s focused on the game. As a kid, he’s very articulate and knowledgeable in that video. I honestly don’t know much about him, so I’m trying to brush up in case he becomes the coach. He could be one of those guys who didn’t have the physical ability to compete on the higher level, but his mind seems there.
I was listening to Peter King on WFAN, with host Richard Neer. Of course they discussed the Brian Flores lawsuit. They take such a lazy approach when looking at it. Peter King broaches the fact that Flores waited 2 years to say these things about Ross, why didn’t he say them earlier? Both he and Neer excuse it because if he brought it out then, he’d likely be fired. Yeah, well, that’s how it works. He may have gotten fired, but what he did would much more understandable and would show a ton of character, as opposed to waiting until you get fired and basically throw it out as a smear campaign against your former employer. I admit I can’t look at this unbiased, but if they hadn’t fired him and say he was the HC here in MIA for a decade, would he still spill this? I still see at is sour grapes, and he shouldn’t be getting props of showing strong character for what he did, especially considering his other 2 claims seem as baseless as all hell. I hope Flores gets the Texans job and Watson gets suspended for his entire 2 year tenure in HOU and gets fired for sucking there too!
That’s where I am at.
Me as well
We have a coach yet? We have a coach yet? We have a coach yet?
LOL
Kind of looking forward to the Senior Bowl. Several players I want to watch.
I can’t see us not resigning Ogbah, but just in case, Jermaine Johnson interests me. He was a transfer from UGA, I believe. Other than Thibodeaux, I think he is as good as any of the rest of the top 5 DE’s. He is also projected to be faster than any of the top 5 at 6’5 262 with a 4.50 projected.
Not sure why he was not considered a higher prospect. Maybe cause FSU has sucked. I don’t know. If we don’t resign Ogbah and he would be there at 50, I would pull the trigger. Maybe even at 29.
He has climbed draft boards and think this Senior Bowl and combine make him a late 1st round pick.
Is it unacceptable if the team who hires a coach feels they hired the most qualified coach?
Of course it’s unacceptable, Flores and the like don’t want equality or equal opportunity, they want privilege
The statement by Goodell is mostly cya, so to me, even though I believe they will hire independent groups to look into this, but it’s not going to change
I could see Wilkins as that 6th OL in there that goes in motion and just plows people out of the way like SF did with their OT.
We’ll take him
I didn’t know he was also an OC. I think their OC is also in the draft, Lindstrom or something like that.
WR Christian Watson is in the Senior Bowl also. I would post a video, but…lol
Another WR creating a buzz there is Khalil Shakir, 6′ 190 from Boise State. He is of average WR speed at a projected 4.48. What separates him from the pack is his footwork and they say he is the best of all the WR’s at the Senior Bowl in beating press coverage, getting separation and maintaining separation.
He is also good running after the catch. He is no Debo but in his 4 years at Boise he had 71 rushes for 414 yards and 4 TD’s. He had 77 rec for 1,117 yards and 7 TD’s last year.
He will not be a #1 in the NFL. I can see him as a complimentary piece like Christian Kirk. He would be another option should we wait to draft a WR or second option if we were to double down on WR. THAT IS, if we miss on Christian Watson.
Wasn’t Zion Johnson already considered the top interior OL after OC Linderbaum? I can’t remember but there was a stud OG considered a 1st round prospect. It could be Johnson.
https://pbs.twimg.com/ext_tw_video_thumb/1489312999001178113/pu/img/gntP82Sjg7bA5wAA?format=jpg&name=900×900
Tried to post a video from Twitter. That didn’t work
There we go
Like this guy
Lindstrom is in the draft and is from Boston college
Actually one of the better centers available
I think BC might have 4 OL drafted
We need a center pretty badly
I was not thinking about Linstrom as he will probably go 2nd round to early 3rd. I just couldn’t pull the trigger on an OC in most of my mocks. The ND OC could be an option in the 4th.
I have been considering that the problem with our OL might not have been how good the players were but how Flores got along with them.
I bet Kindley clashed with Fores because right to start off he was in the doghouse, in explicably the probably best player on our OL the year before was Kindley and yeah it could be he didnt keep up with the offseason shit and stay in top shape, and that might have been why he was in the dog house, but Flores just writes mother fuckers off for that shtit instead of coaching them up getting them to buy in. Its just if you arent with me you are against me. This is whats coming out in the past little while so im starting to think this could explain the major drop off from Kindley, something that almost doesnt even mae sense and the simultaneous drop off from Jackson.
Oh and why the fuck move Hunt, the second best OL we had the year before and move him to the dumbed down position you already had a great player at, you go out and draft a replacement from him to move him to OG, even though you have a left handed QB, who just so happens you also don’t like, to put a guy who by skillset and physically doesn’t even closely match up to Hunt at RT. Are ya just pissed at Kindley and looking for a way to get him out of there, or are you sabotaging the QB you don’t want.
You move a guy to OC who doesnt have the skillset for it, and is a true OG and a failed one at that and send Karras packing even though he was pretty solid, and you dont start Skura who was playing well at Baltimore, why not good enough in Miami….i mean there are so many inexplicable questions just in the decision on the OL for all the shuffle etc that its hard to not expect some of this was personality clashes with a guy who seem to have those in abundance.
This could likely end up being the post of the day for me. Agree 100%. Of the rookie OL btwn Jackson, Kindley and Hunt, Kindley had the best season. IMO Of course, the others were playing a tougher position. To go from starter to not cracking the lineup a year later where we didn’t really make any upgrades to the OL doesn’t add up. Then throw in Jackson’s regression. SMH
It was just a terrible decision to remove all valid veterans from the line when it wasn’t necessary. It’s not like we had the fab 5 and this is Michigan basketball.
Brian, I have seen at least 2 mock drafts having us take OT Trevor Penning at #29. His nastiness would make me like the pick at #29 if we didn’t address OT in FA.
Though, I would have to rethink my whole draft. lol
I think Smith is the OL I like best. He’s rising up the boards though.
I’m not liking another draftee lineman though. Points made by me and SB7 about the need of a veteran presence is never more true than this year. Any hope of salvaging what we had was a two part process. The first part is done, Flores is gone, the second part is to bring in a solid very professional successful vet in FA if not two and hopefully we can get these youngins back on track which is our best case scenario for having any success in the near future.
I agree with that
But I do like Penning. Don’t know much about Smith.
That 1st round OG prospect I was thinking of earlier was not Zion Johnson. It was Kenyon Green of Texas A&M.
Rock, I bet you are watching the Senior Bowl to check out the kickers and punters. lol
Funny how just about everyone hits the blog more often when they are at work. lol
Do we have a coach yet?
LMAO – Flores says, “The NFL cannot continue to police itself.” No Brian, they actually can, and will. The 32 owners can do whatever the fuck they want, if you don’t like it, go to the USFL or CFL. They’re the ones making billions each year, so they kinda control the narrative. Lots of black players and coaches are making nice money playing and coaching for the NFL. Should the NBA start hiring more white players? Maybe each team should have at least one white starter on their roster. It can’t be about qualifications, it has to be race. This suit is just pissing me off the more airplay it gets.

Part 2 of the latest SI Fan Nation All Dolphins mailbag:
From Dave (@angryvet59):
If McDaniel is hired, any thoughts on who’d he bring on as OC & would he call plays like Shanahan? Appreciate your work Alain.
Hey Dave, first off thanks. I’d be lying if I said I knew whether McDaniel would want to call plays, which remember is something he hasn’t done with the 49ers because that’s Kyle Shanahan’s deal. As for a potential OC, it’s interesting to note that former Dolphins WR Wes Welker is on the 49ers staff, though the name I would throw out there — this is not a report but a guess — would be 49ers pass game coordinator Bobby Slowik.
From A-Rod the phinphan (@TheGreatPhinsby):
Alain!! Who is your favorite free agent(s) this offseason?
Hey A-Rod, to make this fun, I’ll give you one by position, with the understanding that some of them might not be available because they’ll be re-signed: QB Marcus Mariota, RB D’Onta Foreman, WR Mike Williams, TE Zach Ertz, T Orlando Brown, G/C Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, IDL Quinton Jefferson, LB Dont’a Hightower, CB J.C. Jackson, S Jessie Bates III.
From Joe Kirkland (@KirklandJoe):
It seems like the business of the NFL is beyond the grasp of understanding for Mr. Ross. Is now the time to sell the team?
Hey Joe, given what’s gone on during his time as owner, it’s actually a completely valid question that you ask. But because he’s the owner, nobody can make him sell — unless, of course, the Brian Flores lawsuit produces concrete evidence that he did offer Flores $100,000 per loss in 2019, in which case you might get your wish.
From MermAndy (@iamMermandy):
Tanking: Couldn’t an owner, with a HC’s approval, structure a contract that rewards a year 1 tank w/o calling it that? So it’s not overt? To your knowledge, does that happen?
Hey Andy, I’m not exactly sure how you’d structure a contract that encourages losing without it violating the sanctity of competition, so to speak. For the record, I don’t think there’s much question that tanking does go on at times in the NFL, but it would be the result of conversations and everybody being on the same page. For example, the Eagles inserted unproven Nate Sudfeld at quarterback in the fourth quarter of their 2020 finale against Washington even though they were trailing only 17-14. The Eagles lost 20-14 and ended up with the sixth overall pick (which they traded to the Dolphins) as a result. Was that tanking? After Peyton Manning was sidelined with his neck issue in 2011, the Colts went with Curtis Painter, Dan Orlovsky and Kerry Collins at quarterback, finished 2-14, landed Andrew Luck — remember “Suck for Luck” — with the first pick in 2012 and those three QBs were gone after that 2011 season. Was that tanking? But, no, there’s no way it ever would show up in a contract.
From Sflsportsbum (@sflsportsbum):
Re: if next coach is McDaniel, how much time do you feel he should be given to “build/rebuild” and how much time do you think will be allowed?
Hey there, that is a great question. The going rate with the Dolphins lately has been three years, but I worry that the front office thinks the team is closer than it really is (I base that on the reported mandates to work with Tua and keep most of the defensive coaches). My thought is that McDaniel, should he become head coach, be given at least three years, but I’m not convinced he’d get that long (if the record takes a dip).

From Shakemoney78 (@shakemoney78):
Where do you stand on getting a fullback for your 53-man roster?
Howdy, that question depends on what kind of offense you’re going to run. Considering the number of short-yardage situations teams have to convert throughout the course of a season, I do like the idea of a fullback — provided he’s a great blocker, of course.
From Jon Rambo (@thejonrambo80):
In your personal opinion, with the money available how do you rank the most important Dolphins free agents to re-sign this offseason?
Hey Jon, I’ve said all along that Emmanuel Ogbah is at the top of my list and I think I might go with Mack Hollins at number 2 because of his special teams importance and also his ability at wide receiver. Mike Gesicki then would be the clear number 3, followed probably by Duke Johnson.
From JPB230659 (@jpb230659):
Salut Alain! If Flo was so honest, why didn’t he resign first and sue afterwards? Why was he eager to continue working for the plantation disdaining him?
Howdy, Flores has said the tipping point for him was getting an interview with the Giants after he says they already had decided they were going to hire Brian Daboll. His issue with the Dolphins didn’t have to do with racism, according to his allegations, but rather for the way they treated him after he refused Stephen Ross’ offer of money to throw games, again according to his allegations. Flores also said the Dolphins ran a smear campaign after he was fired.
From footballfan (@footballphinfan):
With everything happening it might be the right time to do a rebuild starting with a new owner. Rumor is some players want out so sell off those players. Do you see this as a possibility? IMO, it might not be an option.
I have not heard anything about players wanting out, but are we really going to start dumping every good player who wants to leave and go back to having a talent-deficient roster like in 2019? Also, if enough players request trades through their agents, which would be highly unusual, then maybe Ross would decide it’s not worth continue to own the team. But that’s highly speculative.
From E-Rod (@phinfan2003):
If you were a hot coaching candidate who was scheduled to interview for the HC job, would you cancel the interview given the serious allegations that were made by Flores?
Hey E-Rod, easy answer, no, I would not cancel the interview. I absolutely would have direct and tough questions to ask during that interview to feel comfortable this is a job I want to take, particularly if I’m Mike McDaniel or Kellen Moore and I’m already in a pretty good situation in my current role.
From mr. mojo risin’ (@dennisgriffin7):
Wouldn’t the Fins be better off trying to trade Byron Jones than X? Won’t get as much in return but after this season cap (nearly identical) hit is more for Jones the following 2 seasons.
Hey Dennis, I don’t think there’s any question from a competitive standpoint, the Dolphins would be better off trading Jones than X because, while Jones is a good cornerback I’m not sure he’s special like Howard. He’s also got three years left on his contract with $6 million in guaranteed money in 2022, per overthecap.com. Howard is more likely to be traded, of the two, because the Dolphins still have to address his desire for a new contract and he should bring back more in return.

Im not sure i agree with this one. How do you judge the value of one based on the other, when one affects and contrbutes to the other. I mean consider the point that you get picks when things are thrown your way, then consider the fact that Jones is known to be be visually locking down the WR that then doesnt get thrown to, there for no stats for Jones, but then you also get to really understand the beauty of X’s game, as he baits them into thinking they are open when they arent because athletically he can close the gap and make the play.
If Jones isnt over there doing his thing they just dont gamble and throw to X’s side. Chec X’s stats back before Jones came on. This is a synergistic relationship, and X benefits from the fact that Jones plays his game different and makes the QB gamble on X’s side or X wouldnt have those stats that people are jerking off to. These are people that do not understand the strategy of football . They watch number and base shit off thingsthat dont explain the whole vantage point of who is and isnt more valuable.
To mei look at it like this, is Jones as effective without X and id X more effective without jones, and in this question you see something very different. X without Jones or pa player of his caliber and playstyle, because he feeds the stats of X, if there was another ballhawk on the oppostie side there would be less syats because the gamble would be to either side and most likely with X being as well known for doing it, the gamble most likely would go to the other side and another ballhawk type would be getting the stats.
Jones on the other hand will feed whatever other ballhawk type is on the other side, and his game would be the same regardless of if its a ballhawk of tight coverage type. So if you look at this logically, you have to think that Jones is the more valuable one, even though im sure any team would lose their minds to have a guy like X.
Here’s the OL I’d take a look at:
LT: Jackson
LG: Kindley
C: Linderbaum(or draft a different C if you don’t want to draft a C real high)
RG: Hunt
RT: Eich
Deiter and Davis can be backups and cover almost any position and fill in from there.
I’m feeling more and more that nobody on this coaching staff was doing our OL any favors and may have been purposely screwing with them, individually and as a whole. Sadly, that makes doing an accurate evaluation of just how good they really are or can be that much more difficult.
There are two scenarios for me, one s expensive but more instantaneous and the other is more reasonable price wise but both involve two vets.
This is where i start. I am moving Hunt back. I’m short leashing Jackson, i believe he is salvagable but there might be some damage done at this point. Im also short leashing Kindley, though I’m slightly more confident they can get him back.
LT: Jackson
LG: Kindley
C:
RG:
RT: Hunt
The most expensive option is bring in a top OG and OC from FA. Im thinking Scherff and Jensen. They plug into the above and what we have is OC who is smart and can call out the assignments, next to the rehabbing Kindley, good pairing. You have an already ascending player in Hunt bac to a natural position and having an anchor on the interior to learn and build chemistry with. That would leave Jackson as a kind of buck up or get out spot lol. This means we would need to draft for a LT, but the treatment of that position to be more like a RT, meaning we wouldn’t have to go 1st round on that guy, get a really polished 2nd or 3rd round prospect.
Eichenberg wasn’t impressive, his body type etc is more suited for indie work, though he struggled there too. Maybe he breaks the lineup as a OG, maybe he beats out Kindley for LG, maybe he could beat out Jackson for LT, but im less convinced of him than those other two. I think he is salvageable ,but worst case scenario he gives us some insurance at LT and LG behind those other two.
So in this scenario, the above FA moves and draft a OT in 2nd-3rd.
A cheaper option would to be Scherff in FA, and like Randy said, top true OC. Then the above scenario turns into something only becomes slightly modified by changing the draft resource to being a OC in 1st or second, maybe an addition OT resource in the 4th to 5th range.
X came back to his normal production last year. 2020 was an anomaly with 10 INTs. His typical yearly stats are good, but they aren’t special. I want 2 pretty good CBs. I’d keep both if I could.
No doubt but the scenario they were discussing was the value of them and who you would keep if you had to. They seems to quickly jump the decision as its Howard all the way, i just don’t see it being that clear.
^
D, It is a tough call. I was agreeing with Randy you have to try and keep them both.
Will there is a reason CB command so much money, its probably one of the toughest position to actually transition from your college game to the pro’s and still excel. ILB is a tough one too. OL, is a major adjustment. Obviously QB is a pretty tough one too. Those are the toughest and more likely for me to spend to keep a player one i found a good one. I personally wasn’t a great fan of the Tunsil trade and if it hadn’t been for the boon of picks we got i would have been much harder on that trade. ILB is iffy, i mean they to me are replaceable but only if you correspondingly have a S that’s elite level and football smart. to organize the D in the middle.
DE Boye Mafe, 6’4 265 from Minnesota has been impressive this whole game.
Oh and im sure the reason we hit the blog more often at work is that we are older and have families, work is really the time we have where we are already in front of this thing and not doing other stuff like after hours and weekends. Im having to do some work today over the weekend or i probably wouldn’t be on right now.
That’s what I figured after I wrote that.
Perrion Winfrey was impressive at DT as well.
BBM, Tyler Smith, Tulsa OT.
LT, Check him out here. One of the specific things i like about his is his ZBS blocking, watch as he flows and then once he engages his guy, like split second flips plants and stops his dude in his tracks setting up that cutback lane. Tulsa RB SUCKS at reading his blocks, so i don’t know if any of you like that guy, but just watching this video, no way. Looks like he could refine his pass blocking a little but he isn’t bad at it, he seems to have a bit of a mean streak, good second level ability i saw him downfield on a few different plays picking up his blocks. As probably a 2nd-3rd round kinda prospect, he has a lot of upside.
56, btw.
D,
I think Hunt can be an all pro guard. I don’t think he has the feet to be an all pro tackle. He actually didn’t perform all that well in pass pro at tackle in 2020. His lack of movement and foot speed showed up many times. He’ll get exposed against playoff caliber edge rushers. I’d rather have him at guard where he can potentially dominate…and ultimately make the guy on either side of him better.
***
I agree that Eich didn’t look great at tackle this year, but I think he’d do better playing alongside Hunt. I’m still gonna give Eich some more time to see what he can be. He’s still too young to know anything for sure. His lack of athleticism is concerning, maybe he ends up being a better version of Jesse Davis and becomes our do-it-all backup. I’m giving him another year to see how he improves.
***
Kindley is a conundrum to me. I just don’t get how he couldn’t crack this starting lineup at guard as the year went along. It just makes me think it wasn’t because of talent but some other stupid reason or just bad coaching. He and Hunt could potentially end up giving us 2 all pro guards. That’s gold in the running game and would make things much more comfortable for our QB….especially a guy like Tua.
I think its Flores just got it in for him, for whatever reason.
Kindley i mean.
I don’t know i thought he looked pretty solid at RT in his rookie year, i think had they stuck with him at RT continued to develop him those those would have fell into place, his feet didn’t look too bad and i know looking at his college work, he seemed pretty fleet footed. I mean its guessing and yeah you are probably right i dont know he would be as elite at RT, but Scherff and moving him back to RT vs keeping him at RG and leaving Eich at RT, the first pairing seems much better to me. I think a lot depends on how big a jump in change you wanna see and what your willing to do to get it.
Only game i really remember him struggling at RT was the Jets game and he was all kind of discombobulated, i think because it was a more power rush team and he wasnt prepped up for it, but he looked awesome against Bosa and Mercilus when we played SD. He looked like a game against SF and the other Bosa bro. and a pretty awesome DL. I remember when they announced he would take the starting job was the point at which was the worst line of games and matchups possible and he made it through all those amazingly well. That Jets game was close to the end of the year so left the stink lingering, but overall season i thought was pretty good.
Randy, DBs don’t get 10 INTs every year just like pass rushers don’t get their highest sack totals every year. X has the most INTs in the league the last 5 seasons and in some games you don’t even hear his name because nobody gets open against him. He’s an elite corner.
Randy,
Linderbaum will be long gone by the time we pick @29. The success of Creed Humphrey In KC will make teams not hesitate to take him before we pick .
I don’t know, i think he could make it that far, but at the same time, rookie or vet? OC seems prime to me to be a vet just for the ability to call out assignments better. Also better OC to forgo any sort of WR at 29? We have a deep enough need at WR that seems about a perfect spot for a WR in a semi deep WR draft.
He could, I just think he’s a blue chip prospect who will go earlier. I love a WR @29- we could really use someone to compliment Waddle. I’m about done with Parker; he’s constantly hurt.
Tim,
Elite? I’d say he’s a top 10 CB. That’s why I wanna keep him! Lol
Yeah he is elite. There can be more than one elite corner in the league and there are. He’s one of them. 🙂
Brian,
If Linderbaum wasn’t a Hawkeye, I probably wouldn’t even be mentioning him as a first round prospect for us! My Iowaness is showing. Lol
***
I’d draft a WR.
Depending on the draft id be in on him at 29, OC is shallow and WR is a bit deep at this point, so like they said he could go higher than 29 and the quality at WR at 29 might be better than most years so like with everything it all depends on the year and the college pool on how to address the who and the when.

Charles Cross out of MSU, is from my Ex’s hometown. I have been following him for a little while, i think he is a great OL as well. Probably 2ndish round, might would have to use 29 for him, i dunno, but if we did wanna go that route, leave Hunt at RG, grab Jensen for OC and then draft a topish LT/RT with some good feet, that could be another guy to look at.
I had him in my earlier mocks when we were picking much high in the 2nd round during our losing streak. When our picks started dropping, I started doing mocks with addressing OL in FA instead of the draft. I heard a lot of good things about him early on in the season. Good call because I had almost forgot about him.
I think he is gone by pick 40.
D, I see what you are talking about with Smith. He looks like he could play inside or out.
I just think WR is a bigger need for us this year than C. Plus, I think the value of WRs is becoming super inflated due to how the rules work. I’d put WR right behind QB as the most impactful position on the field.
***
Deiter barely held his own last year at C, so he’s gonna have to get a lot better. I’d prefer an upgrade but maybe Deiter takes a step forward this year. I like Linderbaum a lot, but I just think we need a major infusion of talent at WR if we’re gonna keep up with the best teams in scoring. I wouldn’t care if we got rid of everybody but Waddle.
Randy, depending on what kind of staff our new HC puts together, I could see a few take that step forward. Deiter, I’m not sure. He could end up being a career backup.
Tim,
To me, the top 3 guys at a position are the current elite players. It’s always a fluid thing. Sorry, that’s it. End of discussion.
***
Now be quiet or Jahndoh is gonna show up and start the whole “What’s elite?” conversation again! Lol
***
I miss Jahn. Smart dude. A WR, but I won’t hold that against him…much.
Jahn thought John Beck was elite..😃
So there can only be 3 elite players at a position?
Tim,
Sorry, I’m doing laundry and watching the Olympics!
***
That’s why I said “To me”. Everybody can decide for themselves, of course. Hence the debate that started decades ago! Lol
Fair enough. I don’t view it by a number, but how many players are in the league that perform at a really high level. I don’t know much more you ask for in a corner than what X provides us. He shuts WRs down and makes big plays.
If there are a bunch of guys playing at the same level really well, none of them are elite.
Why not? You look at the top performers and then look at the drop off.
If the word elite is the issue with everyone maybe we should say he’s one of the best players in the league at his position. We all know some guys are above the average.
To be elite is to be substantially better than the mean. If you’re one of a bunch you are simply average.
Do you think X is average?
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HowaXa00.htm
Not at all. I think he is one of the top 5 CB in the league. Deon Sanders was elite. Regis was elite. X might be.
Regis Philbin? LOL
So is it down to McDaniel and Moore or is there a wild card?
Dick Vermeil
Wise guy! LOL
So where do you think X stands among other corners in the league?
Elite
Lmao!!
I think X is great. How many corners can you routinely count on to shut down the opposing team’s best receiver? He’s also a playmaker, causes turnovers. I hope he stays here his whole career
To me, Elite is someone you have to account for on any play, can change or take over a game and can beat or be even with any other player in the league
X marks the spot. 🙂
Yeah, imo,X is elite. The only elite player on the team. Holland looks like he may get there in a few years.
You game plan for him, or around him
Yep! We said during and after games, anyone else think they stayed away from X today? To me he’s our Revis and is every bit as good as he was.
I agree
Byron Jones is a very good corner too, but he doesn’t make the big plays like X. Then you have our young Safeties that look good for the future. Holland and Brandon Jones are playmakers. Rowe is is a solid vet but he’s going to give way to Jones which already started in the 2nd half of the season. Needham is another guy but he’s a UFA. We have one of the best secondaries in the league.
So you guys thinking McDaniel or Moore? Or Vermeil?
McDaniel
With the first two being young coaches and the rumors that we want to keep some defensive staff because the defense is developing nicely, it might be which one is on board with that. Not sure if that’s a good idea but I guess maybe that could work. It seems we’ve had long interviews with both and maybe some of that is to have them meet and talk football with Josh Boyer. For me a HC should have the right to hire his own staff. But that doesn’t mean he couldn’t keep someone already in the building.
It may take the pressure off for at least the first year for the new coach if he doesn’t have to worry about the defense. Kind of like the movie Remember the Titans….lol.
I don’t know if it makes a difference whether they keep the D staff either. It could be worse, they could keep the O staff. lol
Lol!!!
That would be a staff infection
LOL
🤣
LOL
Sometimes in business new management comes in and cleans house, or they meet with people already there and see who they feel are a good fit to remain.
There will be changes to the staff with a new HC but the other side of the ball like Bookman said, might take some pressure off in the 1st season by retaining coaches who know the players on that side of the ball really well.
Our offense needs upgrades in a lot of phases, it’s not good enough. They need a new direction. We’re not close to being on the same level as the talent on defense.
Our defense had an identity, our offense didn’t. Focus on the offense and build it with an innovative offense minded head coach, who can also lead.
Totally agree. Whenever you heard the pundits and announcers discuss the game before they played, they would say well you know Miami’s defense is going to bring pressure and they force turnovers with their aggressive scheme and playmakers. On offense can the much maligned OL give Tua time to make plays and can they run the ball? The offense was always a question.
It’s obvious to everyone. Is Tua the answer at QB? Not sure yet. He’s been okay and doesn’t embarrass you. But can he take it to another level with better players around him? I think he can. That’s where Chris Grier and the new HC and his vision comes in. The offense has to be addressed early and often in both FA and the draft.
You are “D” like tonight with your posts. I agree though, lol
Nah this post would be a warm up post for me, just stretching the fingers.
Lol!
My closing thought for tonight is why do I have the feeling that whoever we hire between McDaniel and Moore will struggle and the other will go on to be hired by another team and have success?
Have I finally been overcome by Dolphin Fandoom?
It’s a learned behavior. They’ve done it to us
LOL @ Bookman and D.
My posts are D just getting started. LOL
Good night all! Been a pleasure!
We have a coach yet?
ProBowl game day bitches woohoo
…Ok never mind
I did find a place here that has tvs, brunch, and bottomless Mimosas. Maybe I can drink my way through the pro bowl.
LOL
yeah let’s all tune in to watch all our guys who are playing in the game.
Lol….it’s a good thing I’m older than you!
Lol….it’s a good thing I’m older than you!
All I want is an HC today
Deja vu? Can’t remember if it was when we finally hired Philbin, Gase or Flores where they had completed all their interviews and still took days to hire/announce a new HC.
I could be wrong and/or just impatient.
They finished the interviews now make a decision
——————
So Harbaugh lost his DC a couple of weeks ago, and now his OC. Yes, he planned to come back to the NFL… and likely (but not necessarily) to our Phins. We all know what happened to make Harbaugh think twice after Brian Flores dropped his bombshell lawsuit.
Now, Harbaugh has to find a new DC and OC in Michigan!!!
First sentence threw me off. lol
M13, check out “Dax – “SUPER GREMLIN” Freestyle” on youtube. Think you might at least like the intro.
We hired our OC before announcing our HC. Whoever we have select as HC has to be on board with this OC though, right? Wouldn’t it be kind of goofy to not have the HC be part of the decision?
IDK, maybe with everything going on I’m overthinking it, but this seems kind of weird to me. I would presume we’re announcing our HC today, if not what are we flippin waiting for? And why announce the OC first?
Wrong Miami. The Hurricanes have a new OC
LMAO, thanks, I feel a bit better about that announcement now.
I guess it says “Big addition for the Canes” right at the end there…
Was about to say the same thing … I see Ken’s below .. 😵💫
WTF? That was so confusing. You’d think it would be obvious but that just goes to show how completely screwed up this team does things that we’d think it was the Dolphins. 🤦🏼♀️
Watch your language Missy, you’re supposed to be setting an example here 🤪
I think it’s safe to say we all thought we hired our OC before naming our Head Coach. lol
😂
M – Not trying to nitpick here but other than supposed talks between the Dolphins and Harbaugh, he was never even invited for an interview. To assume he was a shoe in for our job and Flores made him do a 180 is very presumptuous. Harbaugh is a very strong personality and he would make demands that either Ross was willing to work with or not. I don’t think Harbaugh is a guy that would be scared off by what Flores alleged.
Don’t know about that Mike, I made him wilt, when I dealt Blackjack to him🤪
All good… I’m just trying to connect the dots. From my point of view, it all adds up. Doesn’t make it true, but the hypothesis works.
We just need evidence or a statement to know what really happened… and that may never be forthcoming.
Suck it Tua haters!!!!!
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Lol Mike, it was hack reporting like this, that prompted me to put out, that he had a weak arm, so you guys would stop with the false narrative, that he had a strong arm
I wouldn’t say he has a strong NFL arm, like say Justin Herbert, but I think he has a more than capable NFL arm.
That would be accurate, in my estimation
Steve – Did you really deal blackjack to Jim Harbaugh?
Yes, it was around the time he kicked our ass 41-0 playing for Colts. My name tag was Steve Miami, FL
I asked him to take it easy on the Dolphins next time, he just smiled
We talked for a good half hour
That must have been fun. Was he betting high stakes, or reasonable for a guy of his means?
Reasonable, don’t remember any of those guys betting big except Jordan

Glad you liked it!
Google Dolphins Head Coach

Hmmmm, that’s sumpin!
Google can’t be wrong, right? lol
Which article were we supposed to read? All of them?
One thing to look forward to…it’s an even year so Sanders should be money this year.
Rock, no need to draft a kicker this year. 😉
BBMike – Just google Miami Dolphins Head Coach.
Dang, Schefter just said that the Dolphins coaching decision could go into the week before they decide. WTF
He also brought up that the 6 HC’s who have been hired are white and the remaining 3 could also be white HC’s hired. Does he think McDaniel won’t get the Miami job or 50/50 don’t count? lol
That would be shocking though and not look good for the NFL.
Oh, y’all referring to the Wikipedia?
Hmmmm
John Beck WAS elite!
lol
LMAO. Your beer is elite
Lmao!!!
If Google knows McDaniel is our new head coach that’s good enough for me.
According to Schefter it could take our FO a few more days to figure out what Google already knows…yep, that sounds about right for our FO…
^
Maybe they were letting Google decide for them and they are just finding out when we are.
The last 3 teams that need a HC and haven’t hired one yet are facing a ticking time bomb if none of them are black. The narrative will go full blown all 9 HC vacancies and not one black man.
8.5, Google already said so.
Except he’s not being mentioned as biracial by anyone discussing the issue. He doesn’t count.
THIS WEEKEND wins the award for the most boring, least exciting, weekend of the year so far in terms of entertaining sports events on TV. Can’t wait for the Super Bowl to get here!!
——————————————–
SPEAKING OF THE SUPER BOWL, right now I’m leaning toward taking Cincy and the 3 and 1/2 point spread. There’s no doubt in my mind that CINCY has the best quarterback. Matthew Stafford is OK behind a good O-Line. But Joe Burrow has a legitimate shot at the Hall of Fame if he continues to produce like he did this year. The two teams are closely matched at running back and wide receiver. But this all could come down to WHICH defensive star has the better game, the Rams Aaron Donald OR the Bengals Trey Hendrickson??? IF ONE OF THESE TWO STARS clearly out performs the other, THAT players’ team should be victorious.
—————————————–
ANOTHER FACTOR: – – – a few observers suggest that the Bengals “haven’t beaten ANYBODY!” –I’d have to vehemently disagree. GOING 2-0 vs the CHIEFS this season is a major achievement. I believe the Bengals absolutely deserve to be in the BIG GAME, and they’ll prove it come game day.
—————————————-
FINALLY, much is made of the Rams home field advantage. But how big an advantage can the Rams have in a stadium I call “Sci-Fi” Stadium??? Will ancient ghosts appear? Will something ultra weird happen in the Land of the “Fruits & Nuts?” Stay tuned, kiddies, because THIS IS HOLLYWOOD, where strange and wild things happen daily!!!
————————————–
EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!!
————————————–
Y’all stay Stanger Strong!!
You didn’t like the Nascar infield race??
Saints interviewing Biennemy, no pressure there. 😒
I really don’t know a lot about Biennemy other than he’s been the OC of the Chiefs for a few years. The issue with him is look at the Chiefs and tell me what he has to do with their success. It’s Andy Reid’s offense and I think their talent has a lot to do with it. When you watch the Chiefs it’s not really a system. It’s Mahomes running around making plays to his playmakers. How do you run that anywhere?
I’m just wondering what else the league can do. Let’s assume the premise is correct and discrimination is the reason there aren’t more minority coaches. What next steps do you take?
You can’t force teams to hire minority coaches, you can only force the interviews.
How to do ensure the interviews are legitimate? You could have a requirement for independent oversight during all interviews to make sure each candidate is treated the same during the process.
How do you force more minority hires? You could incentivize hiring minorities. Maybe extra draft picks or a set of steak knives.
You could also incentivize on a league level. If 25% of HCs aren’t minority, then all teams are forced to pay x amount of dollars to some fund that provides money for minority coaching opportunities at all levels (I’m just spit balling here).
I think the new rules netting teams extra picks when their lower level candidates are hired to top executive/ coaching positions is an effective measure. It encourages minority hiring at the lower levels, but it’s only been in effect a couple of years.
We’ve seen a couple of teams already get rewarded. Heck, if we hire McDaniel, the Niners will have gained four 3rd rd picks in the last two years.
The issue has gone past minority candidates, it’s now about black men.
I’m approaching from a real world point of view with real solutions. Obviously no matter how this whole thing plays out the league isn’t going to put anything in place for just black men.
Agreed. But the narrative is only one black coach in Tomlin. The other minority coaches don’t seem to matter. The ironic thing is the guy who started this is Flores and he was hired as a HC 3 years ago. Then he gets fired and starts all of this.
The deal with hiring minority candidates and the compensatory picks that get rewarded are to the teams that developed them to get HC or Exe opportunities or jobs. There is no incentive for the team hiring them.
I get that. I was the one that told you about it a few weeks ago when Reggie Mckenzie was a potential hire to the Bears GM spot and it seemed no one else on the board had any clue about it.
And as I say in my post, it’s only been in effect a couple of years, but it should encourage hiring minorities at lower levels because you end up getting picks when they move up…like the Niners Saleh and now maybe McDaniels (assuming McDaniels counts).
I knew about the comp picks before that when Saleh was hired. That’s when I found out about it for the first time. I just didn’t know McKenzie was being courted by the Bears. Funny thing about that is he was already was a GM for the Raiders and an Exe. for us, so should compensation still stand for him?
My post was more in line with what you were saying not challenging you. But if there is no incentive for the team hiring minorities to top positions, I’m not sure how that helps more minority hires. It’s a tough topic because I don’t see a solution other than forcing teams to do it and that is a horrible solution.
LOL, I really wonder about your memory sometimes.
I mentioned McKenzie was being considered for the Bears GM position and we’ll get two 3rd rd picks if he gets the job.
I believe your exact response was “Hmm???”
I explained the new rule and posted the same article you posted recently when you explained it to someone else.
You said something along the lines of “That’s awesome!!”
———–
But anyway, it’s a good rule for this issue because if you have more minorities in lower level positions, then you should have more opportunity for minority hires at the next level.
Why don’t they just put flags on them instead of this 2 hand touch crap.
What goood black HC candidates are out there, besides Flores?
Don’t like VJ and Bienemy doesn’t thrill me
Woke can’t pressure billionaires to do what they want and they don’t like it, fuck them
Leftwich, Frazier, Caldwell
Did you miss the part where I said good?
It’s no surprise to me Bienemy hasn’t gotten hired. Everyone attributes their success to Reid and Mahomes.
Where’s Peyton and Eli?
No kidding. I am sure there was not enough money in it for them to give up part of a Sunday watching this crap. Lol
Don’t think they have any interest in coaching
Ken, I think Steve was referring to having the Manningcast for the Pro Bowl
I take that back, these guys are perfect for this type of game
Also the narrative that the Giants org is racist do they forget Jerry Reese was GM of their team for 11 years including their last two Super Bowl victories?
They don’t deal with facts
Marc Ross was also part of their personnel dept. as the Vice President of Player Evaluation and as the Director of College Scouting. So that was two black men in high positions with the Giants. That seems to get lost in the narrative today.
Kong, I knew about the draft compensation for minority Head Coaches, I didn’t know it was for executives and I didn’t think McKenzie would qualify because he has already been there done that.
I knew about the comp picks for Saleh because our 3rd round pick in one of them from SF. So there! LOL
Yeah, I think we all knew about it with the HCs. If I’m being honest, I had only just learned about it with the execs when the McKenzie news came out about 5 minutes before that conversation. LOL
Isn’t the compensation for first time? I don’t think it’s right to follow a guy like McKenzie for his entire career. He already reached those levels.
Mack doing what he do
Who is Mack?
Jones
Int
You guys are actually watching the Pro Bowl? lol
I just put it on and I will be flipping the channel shortly. LOL
It’s such a goofy game.
You don’t have to get all defensive
I probably shouldn’t be throwing stones. I’m watching the Olympics. Is there anything more boring than cross country skiing? Other than maybe the pro bowl. LOL
Jahn slips in here and no fanfare? C’mon guys, if I wasn’t singing karaoke in my basement I’d throw a party! lol
I didn’t recognize him with a pawn avatar and revised name. That’s not the Jahn I know. LOL
Kong – The next step, and it probably should have been the first step, would be to reward the team that hires the black Head Coach with either an extra draft pick or extra cap space compensation. Instead of rewarding the team that hired the coach as an assistant, they should have been rewarding the team that ultimately hires them as HC. I suppose you could reward both if you want to be fair. It seems to be like they’re not happy just being hired as assistants so maybe they need to stop rewarding teams for that hired them as assistants and maybe just rewarding the teams that promote them to HC. Not sure if that will make everyone happy. I think it’s a little unfair to other candidates that may be better qualified, kind of like colleges reserve spots for scholarships for minorities of all kinds before they give white folks a crack at scholarships. It kind of becomes reverse discrimination.
Yeah, it really seems like options are limited, not sure what else they can do other than breathing down necks with oversight for fair interviews and incentivizing hires.
I wonder what solutions Flores and/ or anyone else that feels the problem is based in discrimination would suggest.
Please don’t let Flores communicate that, nobody will understand it because he doesn’t really explain anything well. He’ll say things like we need change, and we need more qualified black men in high positions. Right, but how? He’ll then say we need change again.
It’s becoming a form of Affirmative Action. It continues to consider us all as not equal but I get it. Our society has come along way but it’s still not good enough. This narrative isn’t going away anytime soon and I have no idea what the solution is.
Like I said they don’t want equality they want privilege
Are there any white CBS in the NFL? Maybe they should…
Don’t day the word privilege too loud, that’s reserved for white people. 😉
Tim, it doesn’t appear that having previously been in the position excludes the awarded picks. It looks like there are only two requirements.
(ii) The employer-club shall be eligible to receive this Draft choice compensation if:
a. The minority employee hired as a Head Coach or Primary Football Executive has been employed by the employer-club for a minimum of two full seasons; and
b. The minority employee is not the Head Coach or Primary Football Executive of the employer-club and is hired into the same position with the new club. There can be no break in employment between clubs.
Yeah I read that. To me once you’ve been there it shouldn’t continue. But who the fuck am I and I really don’t care. LOL
Yeah, all I care about is if we score some picks with it, lol. Although obviously the McKenzie ship has sailed, but hey, there is always next offseason.
I’m more concerned about us losing picks if the Ross tampering and tanking nonsense is true.
“This narrative isn’t going away anytime soon and I have no idea what the solution is.”
Tim, yep, agreed. It’s here, it’s happening. I’m trying to approach it from a solution-based mindset.
We all have our own ideas about the merit of the lawsuit and whether discrimination is actually a real problem in the NFL hiring process or not. But regardless of our thoughts on it, this isn’t going away. What real world solutions will the league implement to attempt to resolve this? Or what ‘appeasement’ will the league offer? (depending on how you view the issue)
I don’t really know what else they can do other than the steps Mike and I were talking about.
Yep!
