Once again my fellow Dolphins fans, we have to endure another period of time where our team is in the news for all the wrong reasons. This was supposed to be the weeks of excitement about finding the right Head Coach to lead our team to success for the next decade or so. Instead, we’re left with accusations against our owner, GM and team which could hurt our chances of securing the right candidate for our Head Coach vacancy. In 2013 we had the “Bullygate Scandal” while Joe Philbin was our Head Coach. Now in 2022, we have the “Tank Scandal”, where our recent former Head Coach Brian Flores alleged that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offered Flores an extra $100K per game if the Dolphins lost in 2019 in order to secure a high draft pick.
Of course it matters whether these things are true or not, but the fact is, even if they aren’t, the damage is done. The NFL is not going to help us in any way if they find no wrongdoing. We’re damaged goods regardless. Controversies tend to linger around things even after the air has supposedly been cleared. The Jacksonville Jaguars are about to hire Doug Pederson as their Head Coach. Jim Harbaugh who was never interviewed by our Dolphins has told Michigan he’s returning for the 2022 season. Eric Bieniemy is getting another crack at an interview with the New Orleans Saints. The Dolphins will be interviewing both Mike McDaniel and Kellen Moore. I honestly wonder what is going through both of these guy’s minds considering the state of the Dolphins Franchise.
If there is any evidence that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross tried to incentivize HC Brian Flores to purposely lose games there will be significant punishment. I don’t know if Ross will be the sole recipient of said punishment or if the NFL will punish both the owner and the team. Obviously, the great majority of us would prefer they take the team away from Ross and leave the Dolphins Franchise alone. We’ve been through enough. Punishment such as taking away numerous draft picks would hurt. I feel like our roster is getting closer and a strong free agency along with with a good draft could really improve our roster. Take away a handful of draft picks, maybe our 1st RD picks this year and next and the next, and that hurts us badly because we have multiple picks next season in ’23 which would give us some nice flexibility to stand pat with two 1st rounders or move up if some reason if we decide to get a QB. It wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it would be unfortunate to fans who get punished so often by bad management of this team over the last couple of decades. We could use a break.
I feel like we’d be lucky to get Mike McDaniel at this point, and I’d be happy if we do. I made it clear that none of the candidates, with the exception of Jim Harbaugh really excited me, but McDaniel would be my preference out of who is left. Let’s get our Head Coach and then we’ll sit back and watch the drama unfold. Nothing would make me happier to find out Flores was just a spiteful, lying sack of shit and manufactured this whole story to drag the Dolphins through the mud after being jilted by the NY Giants, his dream job. BTW, I think his other allegations are very thin at best, against the Broncos and even more against the Giants. We know Bill Belichick is NFL royalty, but his word doesn’t mean squat here. He’s not employed by the New York Giants and I think those texts are meaningless to everyone except Bill Belichick, Brian Flores, and Brian Daboll who now probably feels bad for Brian Flores, or maybe he doesn’t and is reveling in this silliness.
I’d be lying if I were to say I’m confident that we’re clean. I don’t hate Stephen Ross like some of y’all do, I think he spends a lot of money trying to improve this team. Yes, he’s gone about some things the wrong way, especially for such an established businessman. We know he courted Jim Harbaugh while Tony Sparano was still the Dolphins Head Coach. So is it possible that Stephen Ross offered Flores money to tank to get a franchise QB, of course it is. I feel that Ross’s reputation could hurt us here in an investigation. We’ll see how this all plays out. It would be great to come out on top for a change.
As many of you already know, our friend Jon “Stanger” has been released from the hospital and is now doing inpatient physical and occupational therapy, which could be approximately a 2 week gig. It’s amazing how far he’s come and now the light really is close at the end of the tunnel. So happy for him!
Krishna – Flores’ lawsuit is all about how many Assistant Coaches in the NFL are black, yet there was only 1 black Head Coach (after Flores’ got fired, Mike Tomlin). Basically the claim is that we have all these black coaches, but teams won’t give the top position, Head Coach. There definitely are a lot of black assistant coaches, so what I’m saying is, why reward the team that never promoted the black coach to Head Coach with compensatory draft picks, but rather reward the team that does take an assistant coach and make them a Head Coach? It’s all bass ackwards to me.
Jon Embree seems to be highly regarded, good hire, we need a change of mentality from the TEs
OL coach may be more important than OC, have heard McD will call the plays
The only problem I can see with rewarding the hiring team is what’s to stop a team from changing their coach every year for additional draft picks.
Lovie Smith this year
Pep Hamilton the next
Cha Ching on draft picks
Stop blowing holes in my idea! lol
I guess there can be provisions that a team can only get the compensatory picks once in a 4 year period. Seems fair enough
Might happen where an HC is hired 1 year, then fired the next, but it won’t happen 3 years in a row no one will want to go there
They could put a provision in for the hiring team that says, if you hire in back to back years you lose the 2nd comp pick
Not much compensation for a team though to change coaches every year compared to what the team has to go through
Do the Texans get comp picks for promoting Smith this year?
Good question, but since the Rooney rule relates to interviewing outside the organization I’d bet it was same
I hope Mike can get a PR coach. He’s not very good at presenting himself. As long as he creates a championship team though, I won’t care.
You can tell how nervous he is.
Thought the same thing, but those that can talk can also BS people, and he’s no BSer
Although once he got into talking about something he seemed more in his element, relaxed
McD doesn’t have that hardened coach look, wonder if/when it changes
I’d say McVay doesn’t have it either, so…
Have you watched McVay? They’re a complete 180
What does that have to do with not having a hardened look?
McDaniel says he wants to create a brand of football that’ll be called “Miami football.” Talks about passion and energy, and hoping that the Dolphins will instantly be recognizable for that.
I’d say get a trademark out quick, but the U probably already has that taken care of
Per Salguero, “That should worry Ross because Flores apparently has at least one witness willing to corroborate his account that Ross offered him cash to lose games on purpose, according to sources familiar with the matter.
That witness is former Dolphins assistant to the head coach Lance Bennett, according to the sources.
Bennett, hired by Flores in 2019 as his right-hand man, has told the lawyers representing Flores he is willing to corroborate the coach’s account that Ross offered the coach $100,000 to lose games in 2019.
Since the tanking didn’t happen, I could see the league not giving the Fins any draft pick penalty, but for Ross, if true he’s likely done
McDaniel was nervous but once he started talking football it went away. Liked what he had to say about the defense and not wanting face it. Sounds like he wants keep it the same.
Where was the NFL’s concern about the integrity of the game when they handed the Saints a SB after Katrina? I seriously doubt the NFL doesn’t know that teams have been tanking for years. They just don’t want it out there in the public/media. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds. If I’m the owner and the NFL tries to screw us by taking away picks or what have you, I go talk to the commish and make sure to remind him of a few things that have happened over the years that the NFL has encouraged, enabled or turned a blind eye to. Dirty bastards. They don’t give a shit about integrity…only appearance.
I hear ya, but all Gotohell is doing is making it sound like he’s going to do something about it, but it’s really a CYA comment, if he had come out and said, we’ll wait for the evidence…the wokes would’ve felt like he doesn’t give a shit
Agreed, Randy. I think it’s just a song and dance for the public. The NFL has to take it seriously and go through the required motions. In regards to our part of the lawsuit, assuming they can keep it out of the NFL’s arbitration process, I think it’s simply going to come down to exactly what Flores has.
So far we’ve heard Flores has a witness, now we know it was his right hand man.
We’ve also heard he has text messages. I think those will be the key. Are they explicit? Or are they open for interpretation? That could be the smoking gun.
If that is the extent of his proof, his buddy heard it and some ambiguous texts, in my wildly unqualified opinion, think the NFL comes out on top and Ross stays. If he’s got more corroboration or the texts are explicit, maybe we get to move on from Ross.
I would give up draft picks to get rid of Ross….lol
Seriously though, i read what Mando was saying yesterday and all I got to say is – it’s Mando and that’s the kind of bs he pushes all the time
The only source the potential witness to it could
Come from is Flores’ lawyers and I’m not sure they would disclose that at this time
Eventually there is going to be discovery in the case and you’ll know who said what it at least who alleges who said what
But I don’t know about Mandos reporting in that one…or really in general
The Texans don’t get anything for Lovie for two reasons. First, he wasn’t part of their organization for two years before being promoted to a top position. Second, and a much dumber reason, you don’t get the compensatory picks for promoting from within.
So you only get rewarded if you facilitate in building a guy up and he leaves you, lol.
I guess with the 2nd reason, they are treating it similar to losing a player, but that isn’t the point of the reward system.
The whole idea is to put more minorities in lower positions, to improve their chances to move them into those top positions by having a bigger pool. It shouldn’t matter if you do the whole process yourself or which step you are in the process. If this is how they are going to promote minority hiring, then each participant should be rewarded, i.e. if you are the hiring party, you also get rewarded, or if you hire from within, you also get rewarded.
To stop the hire, fire, hire potential abuse of the program, I’d put in a provision that says if you fire the HC/ GM before 3 years, you aren’t eligible on the next hire, and if you fire him after year 1, you don’t get the 2nd pick.
Pro football talk keeping up their high standards
That’s one hire I was hoping for
I never know what to think when a guy leaves a successful team for the same position with another team. I’m glad to have him, but why leave the stability of San Fran for a team that has the issues we have.
Is it a competitive thing? Wanting to be part of building it from scratch? Is it just cause he’s buddies with McDaniel?
What happens in Vegas…or above it
That takes all the challenge out of it and in my opinion violates club membership.
What do you know about club membership😁
LOL, I agree
NV gov lifts states mask mandate
Is that Welkers first coaching hire
He is/ was WR coach for the Niners.
So, why is Jim Irsay still the owner of the Colts after the 2011 suck for luck campaign? They put Curtis Painter out there as QB and everyone knew what they were doing. It was reported on after every loss.
Then strangely after the team with 1 won a game, the Colts won
Colts go from 10-6 to 2-14 when they needed to replace Payton and then bounce back to 11-5…..
It was and still is an obvious tank. WAY more than the Dolphins “Tank for Tua”
The colts did it for luck and the colts did it with Manning too
But they were being sued by a former coach
But we didn’t tank, that was the problem and there was eligibly money involved
Yeah that too🤪
OMG just realized that Caldwell was the coach that season. They got another black head coach to tank! But to do it for free Allegedly.
And he chose to stick with Painter when Orlovsky was clearly a better QB. It was obvious to everyone what they were doing…
It was also brought up by the coach in Cleveland. He said he was not offered money, but it (tanking) was part of their 4 year plan or something like that.
Mandates are getting lifted because of midterm elections coming up. Once cities and states who were the strictest lift their mandates and make life so much easier, the voters will have forgotten by the time midterms roll around because everything is great “now”. They are just taking their authoritarian thumb off the people until elections are over. Get ready for 9 months of voters getting their asses kissed and promised this and that just like always. IMO, these politicians LOVED the control they were able to enforce over the last 2 years. They will want more of it if/when reelected.
They’re getting slaughtered in the polls and many jumping ship from the jackass in the WH
So McDaniel says he’ll be calling plays
Not sure what to think of that, being he’s never called plays before, coupled with coaching 53 players for the first time in his career.
Yes sir! It does not matter to me that this may be his first time. I think his extensive years coaching in this same system is what matters to me. He will know what to call with some learning curve. Plus, you can’t tell me that he is up in the booth just to watch the game last season. I am sure he was constantly in Shanhan’s ear saying we need to run this or that.
I hope you’re right, my man!
I hope so too. lol
After watching McDaniel’s intro presser today, I REALLY like him more than I already had, which was plenty. I think he’s a decent man and a very cool cat. His football acumen is clearly off the charts positive.
My logical brain still remains the same: can he hire a competent staff?
I like his first hire if only for bringing someone along who knows the ins and outs of this system to help implement it. Save him from having to teach his coaches. Which makes sense for him to bring in Welker also. I heard the Welker rumor earlier.
I know there are going to be bumps in the road with getting this offense together and functioning like a machine. I am more concerned about what is going on with hiring a DC and D staff. Don’t want to see them try to revamp what isn’t broke.
I just heard Dax – Propaganda (Feat. Tom MacDonald) for the first time a moment ago… I’m sure you’ve heard it already. GRAND song!
Yes, that was a good one.
Have you heard DAX’s new release? He did a remix on EMINEM’s Venom. It was a one take video. He must be a Star Wars fan because this is the second song in a row where referenced it. This time in a bar.
Dax just might be the most complete rapper I’ve ever heard… and that’s sayin’ SOMETHING! Thank you for introducing me to his music, my man!
MY list of most complete rappers (flow, voice, rhymes), all-time (old school)
2) Rom (of “The College Boyz”) That’s Romany Malco, turned actor, and friend of mine
3) Ant Diddley Dog (now known as A.Doulos, turned Christian rapper)
Dax is entering my top-5!!!
4) Shock G
My pleasure! I have been getting into more independent artists of all different music. Amazing what you will find out there.
Yeah McDaniel was a bit nervous but that’s understandable because this was a big day for him and his family, and he’s living his dream. Once you get past each first time doing something, it gets easier.
I remember the day that I would be playing live with my band for the first time, I had butterflies all day. Looking at the music paper that listed what bands were playing where and seeing our name at a club in Jersey City at 8:00 that night. You keep thinking I hope I don’t fuck up even though we had rehearsed so much and we were ready. But wouldn’t you know it, on the first song during my first solo live I break my B string. That’s not an easy thing to deal with as a guitarist during a solo because it’s your second highest string so I had to improv right from the get go. Fortunately I got through it and my friends who came to see us said they didn’t notice the solo sounding bad or anything. After that, the rest of the night got easier.
EXCELLENT example, Bro!
I’ll share a similar experience. My first big-time performance (group performance) was at Club Amnesia, which Jay-Z made famous a year later on his song “Big Pimpin'”. I was so bloody nervous the week leading up to it.
Being the leader of my group, I tried my best to ensure everybody was ready for the moment… don’t let us down!
I KILLED it, my brother KILLED it, and then when it got to the next MC, he forgot his lines… NOOOOOOO!!! That’s the worst feeling in the world as the HC of my team, and I was only 21 years old at the time!!!
We live and we learn. I truly believe that Mike McDaniel is going to be a good one for us. He’s learned (as have I), and he’s prepared from everything he’s ever gone through.
I’m happy for Coach McDaniel!!!
Yeah man, mistakes or malfunctions make you stronger even if at the time you don’t know it. I was also 21 years old.
AWESOME, my Brother! 😀
On a serious non-football issue
Will one of you guys consider adopting Pinky?
I’d adopt Pinky in a heartbeat!
But that’s coming from me, who’d be willing to ride a Rancor into battle! 😉
Pinky would kill EVERY Dobsonfly known to man!
I don’t know about shocking. A new HC is going to bring in some of us his own people. Gerald Alexander was also interviewing with the Jags prior to today so it might just be because he’s leaving.
Rumor that I’m hearing: Alexander was a very staunch supporter of Brian Flores, who could corroborate Flores’ allegations.
Again, it’s just a rumor.
I like this move. Wes always had to over-achieve and I think guys like that make good coaches.
Hoping it becomes official.
Come home Curtis, but how is a DB supposed to be an OC😃
He’s been coaching WRs forever.
He’s been coaching for a long time. Sean Payton thought enough of him to have him around for 5 years is good enough for me.
Easy there grampa, it wouldn’t have gone over ODs head
For those who didn’t already know, the NFL Awards show is tonight, not on Saturday (night before the Super Bowl) as usual.
TONIGHT, we shall see if our beloved Zach Thomas enters the Pro Football Hall of Fame!!!
Let’s go, Zach!!!
Wtf? I’m pretty sure I have what you need….lmao!
Curtis Johnson was awesome back in the day
Mile High Club….so that’s only an air club not a a land club? Hmmm…..lol.
They had Dan Orlavsky over Curtis Painter isn’t exactly saying we played Steve Young over Joe Montana.
Anyone who remembers the way their QB situation went down that year knows what I was saying.
We might be alright with this football nerd. He looks like he’d kick ass in video games yet all the players love him and his peers recognize his acumen. I love Walker coming on board, I feel like he feels like he has unfinished business here so I like it. The TE Coach what can you say he’s top notch. Keep it up McDaniel. All the best.
He looks like any IT guy anywhere…
Herd I want to fly with you sometime, for the sport of it 👍 lol
Was attempting to hit low hanging fruit not necessarily trying to be 🐽
Here we go
Come on Zach
Art Mc ally .. referee
He looked a little like Zach… I was excited for a minute
I don’t like that Gerald Alexander was fired. He’s a really respected coach around the league. It just adds to the bad look of everything going on with this lawsuit. Alexander was a big supporter of Flores after the lawsuit announcement and his wife even came out and claimed that her husband was the reason the defense got better in the second half, not Boyer. It just reeks of retaliation on the Dolphins part.
ZACH got hosed again!!! 😡
And by a REF yet Again
I DESPISE the NFL under Goodell.
Fuck man, damn shame Zach didn’t get in. Anyone know if there’s a limit as to how many times he’s eligible to get in?
There is a point he goes to legacy ? Class
Not sure if that’s the name or what the timeline is thiugh
Senior class after 25 years of retirement
I thought this might have been his last year 🤷♂️
Man, I’ve met a few Bengals fans recently, long suffering like us, the joy and relief you see in them is exciting. I long for it.
I’m going to drive everyone at our SB party nuts … cheering for Bengals and Stafford
We got a small (very small) taste when we held a playoff spot heading to Nashville, shits fun
If Stafford throws picks the Rams are screwed otherwise that Bengals Oline is in for a long day.
Quick hitters to Chase .. BOOM
Wilkins wins Celly of the year for his worm in the endzone
Rodgers almost sounds like he is gonna retire
Bookman and ER be happy 😊
One can only hope! Best thing is most people here want him gone. I can’t wait for them to get what they wish for! 2 HOF QBs in a row… now comes the reality.
Not a surprise, Zach is nothing but class; should be Hall of f^cking Fame class
Like Mike McDaniel said referring to calling plays on offense. I’m just calling a play – the players make it come to life. It’s about execution!
It’s not like it’s a spur of the moment thing. They worked on that all week in the game plan. Play callers aren’t saying geez… what should I call on 3rd and 4? It’s been practiced all week.
Why do you think teams spend so much practice time in red zone on both sides of the ball? Most scoring opportunities happen there. Score the TD, settle for a FG or come away with no points. It’s about execution!
The Curtis Johnson we’re interviewing for OC is not the former Dolphins CB.
What I’m seeing so far is McDaniel is trying to surround himself with some vet coaches. Embree is 56 and Johnson is 60. Then adding a young guy like Welker as a WR coach with 5 years coaching experience. We all know Wes Welker. He is the Zach Thomas at WR. Yes Zach got screwed again for the HOF.
DC is the next big hire.
I was aware since that Curtis Johnson would be well into his 60s or 70s right now
He’s keeping Boyer I saw announced.
Welker had quickness & took what he had and and what they gave him on D and just got open.
WRs always need to learn that. Getting separation right away was our big problem at times,
although of course Waddle does it well. We need Waddle to get more wide open downfield balls or he is going to have a short career if he catches 50 balls over the middle 5.7 yards deep every year.
Why does the Mercury News think retaining Boyer is a controversial move?
They seem to say he was relieved of calling plays during the winning streak.
I think most fans of the Dolphins are happy to retain Boyer for the sake of continuity and because we know that what he does works, even if it will need tweaking, as always.
But McDaniel is not quite ready to be a HC, so he needs a bunch of support and others taking stuff off his plate until he can get it all figured out, just as teams do for rookie QBs sometimes.
It was reported that boyer was stripped of duties, but it was Gerald Alexander calling the plays from what I’ve seen around.
Well, that’s not good, if true.
NEW BLOG UP!!!
