For those of you (like myself) concerned about how long it would take, and how well young Head Coach Mike McDaniel would fill out his staff, the answer is one week, and I believe he did remarkably well. I have to say that I have more confidence in Mike McDaniel than any other hire of a Head Coach we’ve made solely based on the quality level of staff he assembled. Good people were eager to come here to work with McDaniel, and that says a lot. Let’s look at the staff . . .
OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR – Frank Smith
QB’s Coach/Pass Game Coordinator – Darrell Bevell
Running Backs/Associate Head Coach – Eric Studesville
Wide Receivers Coach – Wes Welker
Offensive Line Coach – Matt Applebaum
Tight Ends Coach/ Assistant Head Coach – Jon Embree
Assistant QB’s Coach – Chandler Henry
DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR – Josh Boyer
Defensive Line Coach – Austin Clark
Linebackers Coach – Anthony Campanile
Outside Linebackers Coach – Tyrone McKenzie

Cornerbacks Coach – Charles Burks
SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR – Danny Crossman
As you can see, the entire staff is filled out, and there’s plenty of experience there beefing up the offensive side of the ball. Frank Smith, our new OC was previously the run game coordinator and Assistant O-Line Coach for the Chargers. Darrell Bevel has plenty of experience as an Offensive Coordinator for the Vikings, Seahawks and Jaguars as well as short stints as Head Coach for both the ‘Hawks and Jags. Once again, I stress experience. Jon Embree TE’s Coach is partly responsible for molding TE George Kittle into one of the best, and likely most well rounded Tight End in the NFL. Travis Kelce may be a better receiver, but it’s close there because of Kittle’s run after catch ability. Kittle is an able and willing blocker at the LOS, as well as downfield. Eric Studesville, half of our Co-Co tandem returns as Running Backs Coach. WR Wes Welker returns to Miami to be our Wide Receivers Coach. Great to have a guy who relied on technique and smarts his entire career to be coaching our guys. Matt Applebaum, former Boston College and Towson Unviersity Offensive Line Coach. He may have the toughest job of all, but other guys on our staff have experience working with the O-line so I believe that will help Applebaum.
On the defensive side of the ball, Josh Boyer returns as DC, despite all the controversy between he and former Coach Brian Flores. Also returning is Defensive Line Coach Austin Clark. Newcomers are Anthony Campanile as Linebackers Coach and Tyrone McKenzie as OLB Coach. Miami welcomes back our own Sam Madison, former All Pro Cornerback as our Defensive Backs Coach. Love the 2 nods to former Dolphins players! Charles Burks rounds out the defense as the Cornerbacks Coach. Danny Crossman returns to the team as Special Teams Coordinator.
McDaniel wasted no time building his staff, and once again, he did it with lots of quality people, people rich in experience at high level positions, former HC’s and former coordinators, people who have experience at multiple positions. There seemed to be no shortage of people willing to work for/with McDaniel which speaks volumes of how he is perceived in NFL circles. Not to beat a dead horse, but the fact Flores was unable to do the same, and couldn’t even keep the ones he personally brought here speaks volumes to how he is perceived in NFL circles as well.
I think the Dolphins were very careful from the get go to portray this hire of Mike McDaniel as a positive move, not just finding a guy to replace the guy they unceremoniously booted out. Call me a sucker, but I loved the phone call to Tua. I believe that McDaniel is wanting to come in here and wring out the best Tua can be, although many don’t share my enthusiasm for Tua, I think he’s a LOT better than what he gets credit for. If he can stay healthy, I think he will prove just how good he is when he has a staff that is truly behind him. Of Course Chris Grier has his work cut out to fnd the players to help Tua succeed. There are obvious needs and they must be addressed.
Offensive Line to me is the biggest issue. That doesn’t mean we have to bring in 5 new players, to the contrary, I think 2 players, and a draftee would do it. You guys know I’d love to bring in former 49ers OG Laken Tomlinson. He’d be an anchor for our line, a plug and play guy who plays every game and knows his responsibilities. Guys like that make the guys next to him better, they just do. It’s why I think it’s way too premature to give up on the guys we have in house. Sorry to bore you avid readers but I still believe that Austin Jackson, and Liam Eichenberg are potential NFL tackles. I think Austin can retake his LT position and I believe Eichenberg might be our future RT, as early as 2022. I think we need another interior lineman, a Center who could also play OG. Ted Karras who was here in 2020, is one possible answer. Ethan Pocic, 2nd RD pock of the ‘Hawks has played both C and OG for the Seahawks. If we go whole hog so to speak, maybe we bring in former Washington Redskins stalwart Brandon Scherrf. I hate to spend top dollar my friends, but if there’s a place worthy of the investment, it’s on the O-line. I also feel like it would be foolish to give up on OG Solomon Kindley. We’ll see how how the new offensive regime feels. We’ll also find out in the draft which follows Free Agency as to what importance they feel of upgrading the RB position. We’ve longed for better RB’s, but all signs seem to point to a RB by committee approach. We’ll have to wait and see, but we won’t have to wait long as NFL Free Agency begins March 16th, less than a month away.

I agree it did not matter who the president is. This has been in the works before even Trump was in office. Though, Trump being a wild card and not knowing how he would have responded may have delayed Putin’s plans a bit. Putin knew no one, not even the US, would go to war over Ukraine. He also knew there would be sanctions and that didn’t stop him before. He also knew the sanctions would hurt but also not be the strictest. He has the energy of eastern Europe under his thumb. He knows they, especially Germany, cannot go all out sanctions on Russia. Putin knows he can weather the storm and there is nothing anyone can or at least do anything about it.

Here’s a name to keep in mind as we enter the Combine: Alexander Lukashenko, QB, Belarus. The guy plays the game with a chip on his shoulder and he can be brutal through the air.
The knock on him is that he likes for others to take the lead (some call it unselfish), yet he’s always involved in the play in some capacity. He’s a dangerous player who I feel is very under-rated.
The other guy who’s very under-rated as we enter the Combine is Recep Erdogan. There’s a thought that he might jump ship from an NFL prospect to an XFL prospect. We’ll see what happens.

I have friends and family who are liberal Democrats, conservative Republicans, libertarians etc. We all just want to live our lives. We focus too much on extremes and it weakens us as a nation. Russia and China both know this. We’re all allowing this to happen. Red vs. Blue is stupid. Greed is also the main culprit but nobody wants to admit it.
I fear one day seeing a big mushroom cloud and the wave of impact that comes with it – saying oh shit, this is it!!! Don’t normally do politics, but extreme circumstances call for extreme reactions. I can’t pretend to know what is in the minds of leaders, but the entire house (parliament) is united across all political divides (as should the whole free world be) in condemning killing innocents by a lunatic, despotic, egomaniacal dictator. His land grab is abhorrent to everyone here and seeing families crouched overnight in subway stations is criminal.
At present, the response is sanctions, freezing assets, stopping the movement of money and investigating a whole lot of money invested here that has been conveniently ignore for a long time under the recent “proceeds of crime” act. Time will tell how much this actually bites, but the whole of the world is united in trying to stop the conversion of worthless roubles into $, £ and €.
The EU has committed to stop taking gas from Russia for good. This accounts for 40% of the gas consumption, so prices from other areas will rocket. It’s a price worth paying.
Germany is coming to the end of installing and commissioning Nord Stream 2, a second pipeline from Russia. They have committed to never opening it. That’s a massive blow to Putin financially
We are keeping our Embassy staff over there to support decent Russians who are increasingly speaking out against Putin. Not sure how effective that will be.
We have banned Russian planes from landing here. They have banned ours from their airspace, but I don’t think that will be a big loss for us.
We are supporting Ukrainians with aid, arms and longer term, through NATO, troops too depending on how things escalate. Ukraine isn’t in NATO yet as I’m sure you know, but other neighbouring countries are and who knows where the modern day Imperialist’s ambitions will end? His language on the recent televised announcement was chilling. Make no mistake, he will not easily over-run those borders and if he tries, the consequences are unimaginable.
It’s not a “big deal” in world terms, but the Champions League Final has been moved from St Petersburg to Paris. Like moving the Superbowl to Montreal (sort of)!
In the short term, it won’t change the lives of people on the ground here. Longer term, energy and petrol prices which were already rising will become crazy, troops will need to be sent and global supply chains which are already on their knees will probably become worse. Even though the UK is no longer part of the EU, we still also feel their pain. Quite a few Ukrainian people have relocated here, especially historically.
In short, as no doubt PP would say, it’s FUBAR and going to get worse. Putin HAS to be stopped. And will be.
Oh and anyone trying to make this a Republican vs Democrat thing needs to give their head a wobble and look beyond your shores. America is a great country, but it isn’t the only one, and it isn’t always about America. Respectfully.

Problem is everyone is still buying Russian oil and gas right now including the US. These sanctions mean nothing as Putin is making enough money off the higher price of oil to offset the current sanctions being put in place. Which basically means they are doing nothing.

As far as Democrat vs Republican, I don’t think that’s the factor here. I would say Biden is a feeble leader that no other country probably fears or respects. Not that Trump was a great president, but I do think other countries feared him (not necessarily for the right reasons). I do believe this wouldn’t have happened during Trump’s presidency because of his somewhat unstable personality, to put it kindly.
We’ll all have to hope for the best on this one, and hope that all countries combined don’t allow this aggression to happen.

On the mid-day news here, a Russian armoured vehicle was filmed driving over an occupied car (and that was not an SUV car – think tiny, old and poorly constructed). The roof was ripped off and the Russki’s fecked off down the road without a second thought. I just checked in social media and it’s a shitshow. Not hard to see that coming. My friends on the left side were very chippy and ever present with their hatred towards Trump and his supporters. Now they’re invisible, but all my friends on the right are pointing fingers and yelling and jumping up and down. So Russia has about 900K active military troops. NATO has around 3.2 M (1.3 M of that is the US). On the surface we and our Allies have a significant numerical advantage. However, at least half the IS forces would be committed elsewhere, many of the NATO countries have not kept up their military, and not all that number is actual combat troops. Ratio of non-combat to combat troops is about 3:1 (https://www.armyupress.army.mil/portals/7/combat-studies-institute/csi-books/mcgrath_op23.pdf). So assuming every country went all in, NATO’s combat strength is roughly 800K troops in various levels of readiness and ability. I’ve served with a few different countries’ forces. Some are very good, some are less so. Vlad has 200K troops in and around the Ukraine. If NATO responds militarily, they cannot let Russia hold any of the territories they have taken. That means taking back Crimea and the Dunbar region as well.
If I was running it I would attack multiple target to include his bases in Crimea and, just for shits and giggles, the air base in Petropavlovsk in the Kamchatka peninsula (far eastern Russia on the pacific).
All sounds easy. But it would reduce Russia’s global power and that is pushing them into a corner. Vlad would certainly resort to tactical nukes rather than lose. Speaking of nukes, what do you think the Russians are doing in Chernobyl? Just my guess, but I think they are preparing to blow the containment systems put there after the meltdown, in the event NATO does respond militarily. That could potentially irradiate much of Europe.
The Russians do have some vulnerability in the Pacific right now as they moved significant naval assets from the Pacific to the Mediterranean to counter the US French and Italian carrier battle groups that are currently operating there

The good news (if it can indeed be called good news in respect of the senseless loss of life by troops who may not even support the orders they have been given) is that there are now 450 less Russian troops according to the UK defence secretary and 1 of their planes shot down. Not sure of Ukrainian casualties at this stage. They are only 20 clicks from Kyiv though, now, and the Ukrainians are being told to arm themselves with Molotov cocktails. Lambs to the slaughter. SMH.
This invasion was going to happen regardless who was President and probably would have been easier for the Russians if Trump was President based on how easily they had been manipulating him and pitted him against other NATO leaders. That said it was going to happen no matter what. There was little this President or any President could have done to prevent it unless the country was ready to commit large numbers of troops and large numbers of casualties in an all out war with Russia. This country including both political parties and the majority of its citizens lacks the political will to do so at this time.

I do agree that it would have happened regardless and nothing any President could have done really. I think Trump’s unpredictability played a factor in this not happening sooner. Trump wouldn’t have done what NATO wants. Trump would have done what he wanted to do. Good or Bad and I think that may have delayed Putin’s decision to take Ukraine.
We don’t know but Trump fawned all over Putin. He is even post invasion gone on Fox News calling Putin a genius and said we should do the same thing (invasion) on our southern border. I don’t see Trump as a deterrent at all to the Russians. That said it wouldn’t have mattered who President. Putin is obsessed with restoring Russian hegemony in Eastern Europe.
It is genius. Putin got all of eastern Europe dependent on Russian oil and gas so if they tried to do anything severe, they would be f-ing themselves. He has them in a catch 22 and it’s working while he is taking over a country. He has the rest of the world worried about cyberattacks. The cyberattack on the US a while back by the Russians was just a test run to let us know they have the capability to shut us down. They also have our govt on it’s heels as well.
I don’t quite see it that way. He is destabilizing the world including his own country. He is unifying NATO which he has worked so hard to weaken. He is spending vast sums on this military operation which his country can scarcely afford. His economy is largely driven by gas and oil and he has essentially shut down his largest market for that. He probably is forcing NATO nations to increase defense spending.It is already proven that Russia cannot sustain a prolonged arms race. Their economy is just too small
