For those of you (like myself) concerned about how long it would take, and how well young Head Coach Mike McDaniel would fill out his staff, the answer is one week, and I believe he did remarkably well. I have to say that I have more confidence in Mike McDaniel than any other hire of a Head Coach we’ve made solely based on the quality level of staff he assembled. Good people were eager to come here to work with McDaniel, and that says a lot. Let’s look at the staff . . .
OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR – Frank Smith
QB’s Coach/Pass Game Coordinator – Darrell Bevell
Running Backs/Associate Head Coach – Eric Studesville
Wide Receivers Coach – Wes Welker
Offensive Line Coach – Matt Applebaum
Tight Ends Coach/ Assistant Head Coach – Jon Embree
Assistant QB’s Coach – Chandler Henry
DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR – Josh Boyer
Defensive Line Coach – Austin Clark
Linebackers Coach – Anthony Campanile
Outside Linebackers Coach – Tyrone McKenzie
Defensive Backs Coach – Sam Madison
Cornerbacks Coach – Charles Burks
SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR – Danny Crossman
As you can see, the entire staff is filled out, and there’s plenty of experience there beefing up the offensive side of the ball. Frank Smith, our new OC was previously the run game coordinator and Assistant O-Line Coach for the Chargers. Darrell Bevel has plenty of experience as an Offensive Coordinator for the Vikings, Seahawks and Jaguars as well as short stints as Head Coach for both the ‘Hawks and Jags. Once again, I stress experience. Jon Embree TE’s Coach is partly responsible for molding TE George Kittle into one of the best, and likely most well rounded Tight End in the NFL. Travis Kelce may be a better receiver, but it’s close there because of Kittle’s run after catch ability. Kittle is an able and willing blocker at the LOS, as well as downfield. Eric Studesville, half of our Co-Co tandem returns as Running Backs Coach. WR Wes Welker returns to Miami to be our Wide Receivers Coach. Great to have a guy who relied on technique and smarts his entire career to be coaching our guys. Matt Applebaum, former Boston College and Towson Unviersity Offensive Line Coach. He may have the toughest job of all, but other guys on our staff have experience working with the O-line so I believe that will help Applebaum.
On the defensive side of the ball, Josh Boyer returns as DC, despite all the controversy between he and former Coach Brian Flores. Also returning is Defensive Line Coach Austin Clark. Newcomers are Anthony Campanile as Linebackers Coach and Tyrone McKenzie as OLB Coach. Miami welcomes back our own Sam Madison, former All Pro Cornerback as our Defensive Backs Coach. Love the 2 nods to former Dolphins players! Charles Burks rounds out the defense as the Cornerbacks Coach. Danny Crossman returns to the team as Special Teams Coordinator.
McDaniel wasted no time building his staff, and once again, he did it with lots of quality people, people rich in experience at high level positions, former HC’s and former coordinators, people who have experience at multiple positions. There seemed to be no shortage of people willing to work for/with McDaniel which speaks volumes of how he is perceived in NFL circles. Not to beat a dead horse, but the fact Flores was unable to do the same, and couldn’t even keep the ones he personally brought here speaks volumes to how he is perceived in NFL circles as well.
I think the Dolphins were very careful from the get go to portray this hire of Mike McDaniel as a positive move, not just finding a guy to replace the guy they unceremoniously booted out. Call me a sucker, but I loved the phone call to Tua. I believe that McDaniel is wanting to come in here and wring out the best Tua can be, although many don’t share my enthusiasm for Tua, I think he’s a LOT better than what he gets credit for. If he can stay healthy, I think he will prove just how good he is when he has a staff that is truly behind him. Of Course Chris Grier has his work cut out to fnd the players to help Tua succeed. There are obvious needs and they must be addressed.
Offensive Line to me is the biggest issue. That doesn’t mean we have to bring in 5 new players, to the contrary, I think 2 players, and a draftee would do it. You guys know I’d love to bring in former 49ers OG Laken Tomlinson. He’d be an anchor for our line, a plug and play guy who plays every game and knows his responsibilities. Guys like that make the guys next to him better, they just do. It’s why I think it’s way too premature to give up on the guys we have in house. Sorry to bore you avid readers but I still believe that Austin Jackson, and Liam Eichenberg are potential NFL tackles. I think Austin can retake his LT position and I believe Eichenberg might be our future RT, as early as 2022. I think we need another interior lineman, a Center who could also play OG. Ted Karras who was here in 2020, is one possible answer. Ethan Pocic, 2nd RD pock of the ‘Hawks has played both C and OG for the Seahawks. If we go whole hog so to speak, maybe we bring in former Washington Redskins stalwart Brandon Scherrf. I hate to spend top dollar my friends, but if there’s a place worthy of the investment, it’s on the O-line. I also feel like it would be foolish to give up on OG Solomon Kindley. We’ll see how how the new offensive regime feels. We’ll also find out in the draft which follows Free Agency as to what importance they feel of upgrading the RB position. We’ve longed for better RB’s, but all signs seem to point to a RB by committee approach. We’ll have to wait and see, but we won’t have to wait long as NFL Free Agency begins March 16th, less than a month away.
Welcome Back Stanger!!!
GO DOLPHINS!!!!

What took so long to hire a staff😉
Right???
Some here were bitching how long it was taking
Nice write Mike E
Good write Mike!
Coaches are set, believe he also did a good job of who he brought in
As for OL upgrades, think it would be a huge mistake to sign either Laken or Armstead
We need a C and an RT, we have guys that can do an adequate job at OG, so I’m not spending big money there, when we have bigger needs, also not paying 25m for Armstead to play LT, when Tua is left handed
Might think about spending money first on RT, then C I’d go with a Karras type
Getting the gang back together
Wow!
If we have injuries at CB Surtain and Madison can just suit up😉
Still want Scherrf Mike?
The seven-year pro played just 11 games in 2021 and hasn’t played a full-season slate since 2016. Scherff was already the highest-paid guard in per-year value, netting $18.036 million in 2021 on the franchise tag. He’s in line to surpass Joe Thuney and Joel Bitonio, who are at $16 million per year on long-term deals. Thuney’s $46.89 million guaranteed on his five-year, $80 million contract is most among guards.
I didn’t really want him at any point. I’ve been saying Tomlinson
You want him at:
Over the Cap currently values Tomlinson’s efforts in 2021 at $11.159 million, which on an average annual value, would make him the seventh highest-paid guard in the NFL right now
With bigger needs at C and RT?
Again, below, Tomlinson has a bigger value to us than just playing LG.
We have a huge hole at LG. I think not signing Tomlinson would be the bigger mistake. Biggest reason is he comes directly from this system. The HC knows Thomlinson who will also be a coach on the field during installs, TC and preseason. His value would be immense.
In this outside zone offense, we don’t have a LG that fits. Kindley is a power gap guy and may not have the athleticism to work in this offense. Eich might be a fit there, but he was also better at RT than LT and has decent athleticism.
After taking a closer look at our OL roster, I was like no wonder it wasn’t working well we have a mixture of power gap and zone blocking guys. Maybe that does not matter much since I am not an OL guy.
I am really interested to see how RT Coleman does in this offense. He flashed a little in camp and the last regime liked what they saw in him until he went on IR. Coleman comes straight from an outside zone scheme. He is long, powerful and athletic.
I think our need on the OL is LG, center and a tackle. We should be able to salvage a tackle position between Jackson, Eich, Coleman and even Greg Little. I have not looked into Pankey and what scheme he came from.
I don’t know why, but whenever I hear or think of Adam Pankey’s last name, I can’t help but think about the “Tommy Boy” scene “Alfalfa or Spanky”.
Steve – It depends on how you look at it. My thinking is we have Jackson at LT, and by putting an experienced veteran LG in there like Tomlinson, he can concentrate on just doing his own job, and he’ll be a better player. I think if we got Karras or Pocic or even Ryan Jennings at C, we’d be stronger still and Hunt is solid at RG. I think we develop our own guys like Jackson and Eichenberg and not pay $15-25M per for an OT like Armstead or someone like him.
By saying that you’d rather use the money at LG than at RT?
We agree on C
Wouldn’t you rather have Eichenberg at LT a 15-18m FA at RT and one of Deiter, Jackson, Kindley at LG?
Nope, I think Jackson is a natural LT, he’s just had awful coaching. We’ll see what happens when these guys with experience come in and evaluate the situation. I like Jackson’s chances, he’s only 22, and he’ll have his chance to reclaim his spot at LT and his career. Eich said his best position is RT, he probably knows.
Here’s my definition of a hack
by Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins are set to have more than $60 million cap space this year and that is one of the highest amounts in the NFL but they could have more.
Besides his retarded comment on it taking 10-15m to sign our draft class…more like 3 or 4m
In all, the Dolphins could create almost $20 million in extra cap space while putting just under $2 million on the dead money ledger.
So yes we can create extra cap space, but what about the cap space that’s already there with players not likely to make the team?
There’s another 6-10m sitting out there for these unlikely to make it players
There’s going to most likely be another bump in the salary cap for all teams this year
And maybe the biggest bump will come from deferring money to next year when the cap will almost double
If you’re going to write an article on salary cap space and bring up ways to save more, why be so narrow-minded and not bring up the real amount over?
Douglie does the same crap, he talks about salary cap space, but has no idea how any of it works
The 2022 salary cap has already been agreed to at $208.2M (hasn’t been officially announced but it was signed off by ownership and NFLPA)
Do you really beleave that it will DOUBLE to $416M next season?
You are living in a glass house Steve, you throw a lot of stones man.
It was in the range of 190m last year, when the new TV deal came out they said the cap was going to be over 300m in 2023
I’ve heard this year’s cap may go up another 10-15m
This isn’t his first attempt with the salary cap, he’s incompetent when talking about it
I can’t wait to see what Jon Embree can do with Durham Smythe & Hunter Long. Two REAL tight ends that play the way McDaniel likes his TE’s to play.
I will bet right now that Smythe gets and extension while Gesicki is allowed to go out on the market.
Think Gesicki and Smythe both will be re-signed, we have the cap space and need WRs, which is what Gesicki really is
He may not be a good blocking TE, but I’d bet they fix his technique and he becomes a good blocking WR
It is hard to assess how coaching staff will come together. So far it looks good on paper. To me the biggest takeaway is the obvious on changing the offensive line and offensive mentality. Let’s hope these are the right guys to do it.
Nice new article Mike. I know we wanted to keep Boyer, but I’m still concerned he might not have been part of the turnaround in the second half from the things I’ve read around. Hopefully that’s not the case. I’d hate for our offense to step up and our defense take a step back.
It’s funny us bringing in Madison and Surtain when I was thinking about that just last week along with some other former greats. Now it’s a reality.
Was smart bringing in Madison and Surtain
Think, if there is an issue between Boyer and some players, those two can bridge the gap
Boyer called the plays in 2020 and it was a better D, than last year
Something we don’t know about was going on with our D from weeks 2-8, they were good against the cheats week 1
I hadn’t read your remark about 2020 when I responded to SB.
🍺
It takes me 10 minutes to type out responses on my G^d dam phone because of all the ‘help’ it gives me, like changing commas to periods and changing 2nd to 2and.
Steve,
Our D in week one wasn’t that good. We got bailed out by an X fumble, othewise we were on our way to a loss. We had no pass rush and our secondary was letting guys open so a rookie in his first start could connect with passes most of the day.
It was good enough, we only gave up 16 pts, and they didn’t run at will like game 1 last year
Bail out or not X is part of the D that won the game on that play
Sb, the thing that makes me question the controversy, or whatever we want to call it, about the 2nd half turn around and how much was Boyer vs Flores, is what about the 2020 season?
Boyer was DC for 2020 when our defense was good all year. Was he not calling that defense either?
To me the concern, if there is any, is what Boyer does without Flo being there to bounce things off of, such as during the week, when the D game plan is established
I don’t know. I wasn’t thinking about 2020 when I wrote the post to be honest lol. I still have my concerns though since 2021 is still fresh in my mind and watching how poorly the first half of the season was coached on defense.
I thought I read something last year that Boyer changed the defense because he thought people would have an answer for the cover 0 from the previous year instead of calling it until they could stop it.
Cameron Wolfe
@CameronWolfe
Dolphins are hiring Patrick Surtain Sr. as a def asst coach to work with DBs, source says.
@AndySlater
1st.
Dolphins legendary CBs Pat Surtain & Sam Madison back together in Miami. Possibly best 3 CBs to ever play for Miami — Surtain, Madison, Xavien Howard — in same building.
Wonder how X reacts to Sam and Pat?
Does he slow down a little on his demands and outspoken personality?
A FB what is this?
Like the rowdy picture, it’s what an FB should be
He’ll play some STs too
Still a camp body, maybe he beats out no dead money Cethan
Lovett was used as a quarterback, running back, and wide receiver at Princeton. As a senior, he compiled 1,833 yards, 18 touchdowns and three interceptions while rushing 141 times for 894 yards and 13 touchdowns.[1] Lovett was a two-time Bushnell Cup winner which is awarded to the Ivy League’s top offensive player.[2] Lovett finished his college career with 2,509 yards passing, 1,591 yards rushing and 553 yards receiving.
6’2 235
I like the versatility
crash jensen
Hard to scheme a guy who plays 5 postions.
This is a privilege signing, it should be looked into, white guy also from Ivy League
BAM! There is one of my fullbacks!
Looks like he went on IR for an ACL in Nov 2020 and then failed a physical in March 2021 and missed the whole 2021 season. Should be healthy now. Could be an acorn with his versatility (agree Ken).
Still a camp body and will have to earn his way.
I don’t want to lose this, even if it can’t be used too often.
https://ftw.usatoday.com/2020/11/dolphins-brian-flores-amoeba-defense-justin-herbert-chargers
Not too often, but at the most important times
Think it’s why a lot of us wanted Boyer to stay on as DC
This is all I got to say.

So here is the complete list of Dolphins coaches. We kept a BUNCH of guys from the last regime.
Head Coach: Mike McDaniel
Assistant head coach/tight ends coach: Jon Embree

They kept Jeanpierre?
And Welker hits in spades as well. Another former Dolphin who just played the game smart. McDaniel is bringing in ex-Phins we all would have pegged as future great coaches when they played, What about Zach?
12 guys from the previous staff
I was looking at fullbacks to draft later rounds. I like Zander Horvath, Purdue someone posted about a while back. The #1 fullback or FB1 Jeremiah Hall, Oklahoma who is a good receiver but didn’t see him do much else, but that was just one game tape.
Connor Heyward, Michigan State is interesting. At 6′ 230 he was a RB turned TE/H-back this last season when Kenneth Walker transferred to MSU. He is the son of NFL RB “Hardhead Heyward”. Haven’t seen him much yet in a FB role. Has some agility and quickness to him and a good receiver.
First part of video is him as a RB and last 4 min is after he switched to TE/H-back.
He is listed as a FB for the draft.
Probably will have to watch Kenneth Walker video to see Heyward blocking.
Man, are we scrapping the bottom of the barrel or what?
Camp bodies. League year hasn’t started yet so only players that can be signed right now are those that were out of the league last year.
I pulled a hammy getting to the podium to hand in the card for Dean.
YOUR PICKS
R1 P29 LB Nakobe Dean – Georgia
R2 P18 RB Breece Hall – Iowa State
R3 P37 C Alec Lindstrom – Boston College
R4 P16 WR John Metchie III – Alabama
R4 P20 LB Brandon Smith – Penn State
R5 P15 DL Isaiah Thomas – Oklahoma
R6 P21 OT Andrew Rupcich – Culver-Stockton
R7 P3 K Cade York – LSU
I’d be very happy with this draft
Maybe only talking high school, but we are talking Florida high school football.
——————————–
“While Surtain has never coached at the NFL or collegiate level, he’s been the head coach of Plantation American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida since 2016. During his time as a high school coach, Surtain led his team to three state championships and received the 2020 High School Football America National Coach of the Year honor.”
It’s also Pat Surtain who knows a little bit about playing CB. 🙂
Good write, Mike.
Charles Burks left the team to join the Bengals.
What a difference a year and a new regime makes. Least one sports book has us as a 30-1 shot to land Watson.
——————————–
Where Will Deshaun Watson Play Game 1 Of 2022-23?
Houston Texans -400
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +400
Minnesota Vikings +450
Carolina Panthers +950
Denver Broncos +950
Philadelphia Eagles+1000
Washington Commanders+1200
Pittsburgh Steelers+2000
New Orleans Saints+3000
Miami Dolphins +3000
I guess prison isn’t an option?
Lol
LOL
Breese Hall has FIFTY 50 FIVE-O FIFTY!! TD’s in 3 years! (plus 6 receiving) 3,941 rushing yards and 734 receiving yards in three seasons. (5.49 yard average)
Bout pulled my other Hammy limping up to the podium to pick him! LOL
Yes, and I have zerroed in on Cade York as our future kicker. LOL
I went back and watched a highlight on Kenneth Walker III to see Connor Heyward (above) blocking. I am more than sold on him as a blocker as well as his running and receiving abilities. Had to pause at each play to see where #11 was lined up. Mostly from the H-back spot. I saw at least 6 TD runs by Walker that were because of really good seal blocks by Heyward and also on numerous other big runs. He hits hard as a few times you can hear specifically his pads popping on the video.
Andrew Rupcich is a good small school project that needs some deveopment but could be a starter after some seasoning.
Quit trying to sell us on your meaningless mock draft 😂jbb
LOL I was doing that wasn’t I?
Don’t worry Rock, I do that also.
Lol, just tell me to shut my pie hole, I don’t have a clue about these players nor how to even do a mock.
So instead, you mock us. lol 😉
Lol
Here’s the coaching staff from the official site.
https://www.miamidolphins.com/team/coaches-roster/
That’s interesting. When I went to the official site this morning they still had the old staff listed, except for McDaniel.
Yeah they updated it today because I’d been checking and it hadn’t been except for McDaniel like you said.
Is it just me, or is this a huge staff?
I only thought a few could stand to lose some weight, but I am no one to judge.
That was better. I was going to say, “I don’t look at another man’s junk.” lol
That is a good one too. Lol
What’s wrong with you 2 jerks!
You don’t already know?
A lot of guys are assistants getting their feet wet as coaches.
But still Tim –“The 2022 coaching staff features more than 300 years of coaching experience, including 183 years in the NFL.”
29. Nakobe Dean LB Georgia
50. Christian Watson WR North Dakota State
101. Daniel Faalele OT Minnesota (RT)
120. John Ridgeway DT Arkansas
124. Cameron Jurgens OC Nebraska
158. Brian Robinson Jr. RB Alabama
199. Connor Heyward RB Michigan State (FB/H-BACK)
222. Skylar Thompson QB Kansas State
When I made my last pick, I was thinking, “First of all his name is Skylar…” LOL
Want a WR in 1st, but if that’s the best player on board…
I Lovett that we signed a fullback
Yeah we know the 49ers used one so it is part of the offense. Not sure Lovett will be that guy but I’m pretty sure we’ll have one.
Pig,
It would be interesting to know how the number of coaches on this staff matches with other teams. I would check, but I am too lazy.
Stanger, the main coaches definitely have a lot of experience. I was talking about the guys getting their first shot or have only been coaches a couple of years.
Thank you, Mike E….
…coaching, coaching, coaching…as you I like our coaches on paper. Show me.
…I don’t ever want to see Keystone cops shit from this team again. It was gross….lol
That’s coaching!
That’s ON coaching, to be clear!
I remember a play where both guards pulled in opposite directions ran into each other and took themselves out of the play
It was fucking ugly….gross comes to mind…lol.
When it comes to retaining Lemuel Jeanpierre as asst. OL coach, I wouldn’t blame him for all our OL woes. Maybe he was in over his head as OL coach but the players still have to perform and many of them struggled individually.
Eh, I blame him a lot. I think there are guys here who should be playing better. We’ll see what happens when the other guys dig in.
It wasn’t any better with other OL coaches. I think the youth factor was a big issue. Too many of them developing at the same time. We don’t even know if they’ll be any good yet regardless of draft status.
What is your point TK? It’s OK to be shit? I don’t get defending shit? Sorry…lol
Lol…it’s OK to be shit as long as everyone else is shit. Lmao! Makes no sense…
I’m not blaming anyone, but our coaching on the offensive side of the ball sucked!
Lol…I guess I’m casting blame v pointing out a major weakness?!
BBM love that draft but you took a Skyler when you should have taken a Cabe. 😏
Skylar is the shit, man! lol
If you’re not clear, precise, smart, and demanding in your expectations, you’re not a good coach in the NFL. Facts.

————————–
Steve, 5 WR’s went before #29 this time. It was either WR Olave or BPA and couldn’t pass on LB Dean which is also a position of need.
The Mullet is back!! I like his sarcasm.
Gotta post my Friday video before I take my nap prior to going to work tonight.
Krishna, I’m not going to spend a lot of my time as if I’m defending Jeanpierre but I saw players failing at the basics. I’m pretty sure all coaches know what the basics are and aren’t avoiding teaching that. Anyway he’s just the asst. OL coach so we’ll see. We definitely need to add proven vets to the group.
Good…lol. Coaching last year sucked on the O side of the ball and you keep….
So all players come into the league ready…lmao. Mostly, imo, it takes learning from good coaching. You don’t learn shit from shit.
Awesome 50mph snow squall here right now. White out. Good thing I am snug here at the bar
You gonna be there a while?
Yes , it actually is 3 blocks from my condo
Bookman – be careful going home!
Thanks, I am only a few blocks from home.
I hope he brought his snow shoes.
😁
Piggy, how do I post a video on I phone again? Sorry
Not to be controversial or anything, but this NBA all star celebrity game is really racially slanted. Typical NBA
Bookman walking home from the bar tonight.

He’s listening to Barry Manilow’s “Tryin’ to Get the Feeling Again”. LOL
Lmao!!!
I was just outside helping an older couple get in their car. This weather is awesome!
I find this to be absolutely fascinating on a number of levels. There’s a quick snippet of Sam Madison not getting along with KC Chiefs players as well…
PS: I’m the one who assumed that Eric B was a bad interview.
That’s been rumored for the past few years. The Chiefs offense looks like an improv offense to me. There really is no rhythm to their offense. Mahomes runs around like Fran Tarkenton on half the pass plays. They rebuilt their OL this past season and it’s still not good.
I can’t give credence to anything that sketchy.
Maybe there’s a kernel of truth there, but ….
I hear ya, Naples. Seems there’s a lot going on there, nonetheless.
How I feel
Didn’t work
Oops guess it did
I’m on record hating this weather! Lol
Spoiled sport. Lol
👍
I’m on record against keeping Lemuel, but maybe they plan on developing him as well.
He’s only been coaching since 2017 and Flores is the one who promoted him to OL coach in 2021 when he was only an assistant 4 years prior. Then he had to take on a very green unit. The OL did play better down the stretch but it was still sup par. I’d say not only were we playing with too many young guys on the OL but we also had a coach who was developing as well. Too young too fast.
yep
My only hope is that the trial by fire makes at least some of those guys grow up fast, and maybe we end up with a primo OL for 6 or 8 years starting in 2022.
I have not given up on Eich or Jackson. They could become good. Hunt is definitely already good and might become great.
Jesse needs to not start, bless his heart.
Dieter is a mystery to me. I would draft a Center as high as possible unless we can get a bona fide quality starter at C in FA.
maybe Lemuel knows the personnel too well to let him go to some team in the AFC, but I doubt any team needs any special knowledge to beat those guys on our OL.
Maybe they think he has potential but needs work, but they are worried their current OL coach will get a promotion to another team soon (or our O). And they want a guy there who already knows the system.
Love this song
I always liked that band. American Woman was good.
But No Time, Laughing, and especially Undun were great.
They’re from Manitoba where Toba is.
Yes they are… we have a small concert venue called the Burt.. named after Burton Cummings.. wife and I saw him play there two years ago ….
A very under appreciated song
We have 8 new coaches on offense and 7 on defense. STs stays the same.
works for me
Interesting video on Bienemy above. Don’t know how much credence to give it but interesting nonetheless
EXACTLY! Very interesting, indeed!
I thought it was interesting
But I thought it was really not very credible – the first 5 minutes explaining who they are didn’t do much for their credibility. There’s were a couple of things said as statements that seemed like bs
More importantly, professionals fight with each other sometimes
It’s not that unusual – it’s a little unfair to throw that all on bienenmy like that
I once saw Yes in concert in the old Omni in Atlanta. It was truly awesome in the literal sense.
Psychedelic symphonic …
Plus Emerson Lake and Palmer was the opening act. Lucky Man… Like … psychedelic blues.
Of course, maybe they were so psychedelic because I could barely see them through the blue haze of reefer smoke. You could look around and see literally thousands of people partaking.
oh
sorry about the flashback
umm
So we signed a FULLBACK!
cool
That’s awesome!!! ELP and Yes on the same bill. It’s kind of strange that back in the 70’s and early 80’s people smoked weed at concerts and it was kind of expected and allowed for the most part even though it was illegal. Now it’s basically legal almost everywhere but they give you a hard time for doing it. Something is off. LOL
Can’t believe you are excited about this guy being our FB
https://images.app.goo.gl/N9xvLmJM87fdm3dL9
Hey my friend are you living in Winnipeg?
Yea I am … another day of -30 C and 40 mile an hour winds like Bookman and ER described.. warming overnight to -18 and 6-8 inches of snow coming.
What makes you ask , Naples ??
LMAO
looks like he’s carrying the weight to be a FB though, right?
These days for sure… one of those guys who annoys me the second I see him.
Naples, I agree it’s too early to write off the young OL that we used significant draft picks on the last 3 years. It’s going to be a new system so we’ll see who fits and doesn’t. No doubt we’ll be adding FAs and probably at least one in the draft.
Yeah Tim, there was no attempt to hide it. Many people were just passing them down the rows to complete strangers. People would light up, take a hit, pass it, and never see it again, but another one came to them too in a never ending sequence. Late in the concert lots of people just smoked the whole joint themselves like a cigarette, because … why not? …and some people were too zonked to keep one lit, but there was already so much hanging in the air, they kept getting higher anyway.
I was part of that many times in the 80’s. 😉
We need to see what the coaches think…jmo

Let’s get crunk cause Mary’s back!”
My wife really likes this performer.
I think your wife has good taste! And that doubles over as a compliment to you, sir!
all I can find is that the rough average # of coaches is 15-17, counting 3-5 assistants, the HC OC DC STC, and 8 position coaches. These are OL DL LB DB RB TE WR QB. There’s also the Strength and Conditioning coach.
We have a lot more assistants.
We have 23 coaches!!
I’m not saying we’re going to pay the biggest contracts for any FAs but I do think we’ll be very active. The cap is going up the next few years, we have a lot of cap now so you can push money down the line. I don’t think anyone in the building is saying we’re 2-3 years away. We have a core of good young players and we need some upgrades. You can’t keep building forever. You have to go for it when you can. The Dolphins were 9-8 and the Bengals were 10-7. Make the playoffs!!!
Some of y’all kill me when talking about how the cap’s going up. IT HAS TO because contract$ continue to get BIGGER.
If the cap didn’t go up, we’d see some QB taking up roughly 66% of a team’s payroll! That wouldn’t be good for ANY team! 😉
I agree with what Steve said about next years cap going up a lot due to the new TV contract start next year , there was a lot of NEW money in it…
YES, that is an outstanding point on the matter.
It is for teams like us. We don’t have a big QB contract coming anytime soon, we still have good draft capital and the most cap space. We can go for it the next 2 years. Yes contracts go up but as the years go by other players come off the books. The timing is right for us to strike while it’s hot.
Fair enough, and true for us.
I was just trying to say that the cap goes up nearly every single year, nothing more. It’s kind of a “no shit, Sherlock” kind of deal. 🙂
No it’s going up significantly the next two years because of new TV contracts. Maybe we’ll have cap issues down the road 3-4 years from now. We can add players to win now and worry about it later. Go for it now!!!
I would trade up for players we covet. We don’t need 8 picks and a bulk of them are mid and late round picks. We need 2-3 difference makers and the same in FA. I’d start with re-signing Ogbah.
I think we are a few play makers and good coaching away. I’m tired of the shitshow both ways.
wow Toba that’s really cold. I think I would die in that.
I’ve been in anything less than double digits.
I cheated and put on the AC last night so as to enjoy a bit of a chill while sleeping.
I set the AC to come on at 71, and it ran all night trying to keep it that cold.
However, just last week it went down to 44 over night!
We are mostly used to it .. but this year has been a bitch… since XMas more days in -30 than not .. and I more snow than we have had in any other year in recent memory.. transcanada highway closed at least one day a week on each side of us .. city streets are like an Olympic Mogul course and highways like the ice rink …
Loads of fun … 9 days until Montego Bay for two weeks 🇯🇲😶🌫️
I loved Jamaica when I was there.
It’s our favourite to visit , haven’t been in about 5 years .. will be nice to be back.. 1st time staying in Mo Bay.. usually go to Ocho Rios
It has nothing to do with cap….we need to kill it.
There’s a coherent agenda to MD’s approach. It’s thoughtful and forward thinking….
Lol…imo!
Maybe McDaniel took a look at the tape and said “OMG we need to coach them guys UP.
I need some more staff.”
With 23 coaches, each one gets 2 guys off in a corner of the field and teaches them what to do.
(No one needs to coach Xavien Howard and you can’t coach kickers anyway. Imagine coaching Yepremian ??? … or Justin Tucker?)
Lol…maybe
I know I’m too optimistic some times,
but honestly, we seem like the prototype of the “Big Leap” type team.
We also feel like a team that’s built to be good for a number of years, what with all of our youth and recent and future high draft picks PLUS decent cap numbers.
Hmmmm….been thinking if the right pieces come to fruition then doable….lol. You need to be altered to see this….lmao
Now if we just had a HC with a positive attitude, who is good at what we are worst at (the running game), and who can install an offense that maximizes our QB, preferably the one in which he was so successful in college.
hmmm
🤫🤫🤯
MF
thanks
She also loves Alicia Keys, but for bigger bands, it’s U2, Santana, and RedHot Chili Peppers.
Those are my favs too. Maybe not the 🌶 so much. But I’ve seen U2 and Santana in concert.
Well I have no greyhound to take me for a walk, but before I rack out, I want to thank the blog again for all the football knowledge that I get every time I read. Plus the good times and deep thoughts.
Damn…feel bad for Bookman and Toba and anyone living in those temps. I was in South Dakota last week. Brrrr. Glad to be home. 84 today, wife got sunburned.
Glad to see the covid olympics ratings are down
I have prolly watched more olympics this year than ever before 🤷♂️ Currently watt4 man Bobsled
Watching
Couldn’t care less about them
Do you prefer summer olympics more or neither tweaks yer interest?? I don’t really watch summer games much at all … to each their own 🤷♂️
Mens hockey was very disinteresting.. womens was awesome (sorry guys)
ONJ
1st ever concert, and a HUGE Crush , even before Grease came out
Toba, you asked about him the other day.
Yea thank you I saw it the other night when ya posted … very well respected guy from the looks of it, such a shame , sorry for ya …
I only met Sam like 3 times, I think at 5, 8 and 11 years old, something like that. Then through family we heard what level he was becoming as a freestyle skier in his teens. He was also a freestyle skater. He was a really good soul and a funny kid.
I remember helping him catch big bass at his Grandpa’s house in WPB on the golf course pond. Another time he drove with us from his Grandma’s funeral to the luncheon afterwards, telling dirty jokes as we all were like ahhh… let’s change the subject. LOL
He was a free spirit and I saw that in him when he was just a kid. 16 is too young to die with so much ahead of him. But he did die doing what he loved. My heart always hurts for the good kid that he was and his parents and sister. They lived him everyday. They can’t get that back other than keeping his legacy alive.
It is way too young, at least you and his family seem to have a lot more than 16 years of great memories.. those keep him alive and relevant…

I REALLY like Alicia Keys’ music, yet I tire of her political rhetoric. U2 is ‘alright’ by me, Santana ROCKS(!), and RHCPs were brought about by… GEORGE CLINTON, a hero of mine!
Great tastes, IMO!
And you’re very welcome, man! Always good to read ya, and you post a LOT of great things here on this blog, sir.
Toba, I like the Winter Olympics, I hate the Chinese sham
Okay i agree with that there has been a lot of blatant Patriot style homer calls
Well on to season 2 of Spaceforce
LMAO , so our new FB was in the 2nd last episode.. 2 funny
A very new trend in music is virtual recordings and performances. Music is the ruler of life. It brings people together in a natural way like nothing else that I’m aware of on earth. You join the positive vibe.

Hate to pop your cherries, but here it is
^
Why bother then? The human society is a greedy fuck. We all know that. Just go back to chopping and whittling wood, hunt and gather and make your own music. You can do that.
Great video Steve. This argument is powerful and true, but no one really cares either. We are like the Roman mobs watching the gladiators. As long as you give us bread and entertainment, the wealthy elite can do as they please. It’s one reason this country is in sad shape.
Some intel about the principles of the WCO McDaniel is bringing to Miami.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1700461-how-does-mike-shanahan-always-churn-out-rb-success
Do we have the pieces for that kind of offense? When I think of agile OL who can work together to in a highly synergistic zone blocking scheme, I don’t think of Miami’s OL. Our RBs should fit that mold though.
Austin Jackson fits that mold
He has to get past the sucking, but if he ever develops…
Robert Hunt probably too
Dieter
Not sure about Eichenberg
great article. I think Jackson will actually benefit from that definition of zone blocking, as he is very agile but not a mauler.
So Tua doesn’t like to be coached “hard”???????????
Have they not watched any of the shows on his dad?
Did old Nick get on ADD medication?
Someone is trying to sell a pile tp us!!!!!!!!!!!
Where did you read that?
You’d never guess it was from Flores and the Braided coconut!
Tim, that was a great article. Thanks for sharing. I think we do have some OL who will fit that blocking scheme. Maybe not the best at it but good enough.
Hey Phel
cool about seeing those bands.
I took her to Montreal to see U2 in the hockey rink there. They had an awesome catwalk all the way across the ice longways, and the guitar player and singer roamed back and forth. Above they had about a dozen double sided enormous flat screens with like music videos playing which went with each song. So both sides of the rink seating got great views and those farthest away from the stage end got treated to up close Bono singing and playing a grand piano down their way.
Montreal by the way is a very chill vibe, which we love. great food and wine and whiskey bars.
We walked all the way up the mountain from the river … took us all day, but there’s an enormous and impressive cathedral up there, so we toured that also. It was quite the finishing touch.
There’s also an amazing cathedral right on the river in the town square …worth a visit.
But I’m not all that churchy … just like the art and architecture sometimes.
I’ve watched a bunch of the Olympic
Mainly bc there’s not much else to watch
The rest of us are mostly boycotting these games
Fuck China and these big wigs making bank at the expense of the athletes they treat like shit
Last I heard they were feeding them Mickey Ds
Makes sense
Iggy’s stats for last year were 3 games played with 6 tackles. Is there really a genie in that bottle to unlock?
I’m not on as much so a late WELCOME BACK!! I’m glad you are doing better and hope you feel a little better each day.
Thanks New Age. As of now out of the hospital…. what a difference that makes.
I HATE to post this shit!
But Piggy asked
He is just making up shit as per usual
Up and to about 1:30 he was fine
Then he got into just projection and speculative stuff
Two later round RB’s to look at who come from zone blocking teams are Tyler Allgeier 5’11 220 and the bowling ball from Oregon, CJ Verdell 5’8 211. After 2 great seasons, CJ Verdell has kind of fallen off radars due to COVID in 2020 and a season ending injury last year.
Interesting read from an internet pundit. Maybe the growing pains won’t be quite as bad if we switch to zone blocking. Even if can’t see how Kindley would fit in, but then he didn’t last year either.
——————————-
“If you read Austin Jackson scouting reports from before the 2020 draft, he was seen as a zone blocking specialist that could not work outside of a zone blocking system.
Similarly, Robert Hunt was a zone blocking specialist. Although there was less public concern that he could adapt to a different system, it was definitely what he did in college and what his build/style fit better in.
Even Liam Eichenberg took the majority of his snaps in college in a zone blocking system at Notre Dame, although he was admittedly better at man blocking.”
I don’t really know the difference between outside zone and inside zone but can’t be much difference. I know the 2 mid round centers I was looking at, Jurgens from Nebraska and Patterson from ND both come from schools who use an inside zone system.
I keep saying, don’t look past our depth chart in RT Larnel Coleman who was a standout in the outside zone system.
There are many college teams who have changed their blocking scheme to outside or inside zone so it should not be hard to find some good ones up and down the draft.
BC changed to it for the 2021 season. Our new OL Coach Applebaum was the one to install it there.
Seems like you better be running a zone system or drafting a BC lineman is a waste
With that said, us reaching for one of these BC lineman shouldn’t eve be on the radar, since they don’t fit most team’s scheme
What you were saying above, I agree. I think these coaches already have something to work with. We just need to add more talent via FA and draft.
Growing pains won’t be as bad, if we have 3 guys in house, that can play good in this system
3 of Hunt, Jackson, Eichenberg and Deiter better bring it
Expect 2 new OL from FA
My question is, if these guys are hand picked for zone blocking on running plays what happens on pass plays?
Seems the proposed answer on pass plays is quick throws and YAC, but that goes with a West Coast O.
I LOVE the fact that so many on this board believe there’s a REAL CHANCE we can have an above-average offensive line next season. Hate to burst your bubbles but – – –
IT’S ALL TALK SO FAR.
I’ll stick to my motto. SHOW ME AND I’LL BELIEVE IT!!
SHOW ME THAT THE ROSS/GRIER TEAM can actually do what they’ve failed to do for the last decade plus years AND THEN I’LL BELIEVE IT!!
—————————-
FOR SURE, I am ready to see a great offensive line prowling the Dolphins’ sideline. Contrary to what SOME of you might believe, I DO NOT get any enjoyment over watching Miami’s sorry O-Line woes wreck what otherwise might have been a VERY successful season year after year during the 21st century. I’m probably more sick of it than anyone else on this site, partly because I SAW AND WITNESSED the greatest O-Lines in Dolphin history take us to THREE CONSECUTIVE SUPER BOWLS, WINNING TWO OF THEM!!
I KNOW IT CAN BE DONE!!
BUT, so far, this owner and this Mr. Grier have failed EVERY YEAR to fill this gaping need. So I remain a “SHOW ME” kind of guy.
And I sure hope the Ross/Grier team proves me wrong!!
Don’t expect too much. An average OL would be a big step up. Only player on it who was average or above last year was Hunt.
I don’t think Ross is going to have any thing to do with the success or failure of the O Line
WRONG, BOOKMAN!!! He’s the guy who approved the hiring of all those coaches who proved to be so inept and all those scouts who proved so inept. A fish rots from the head down. The truth is no one but Steve Ross is responsible for approving these hires and signing their paychecks. He bears the ultimate responsibility.
So if I hire a reputable mechanic to fix my engine or an AC tech to fix my AC and he screws up is it my fault?
Good analogy
I respectfully disagree.
ROCKPHIN: I SAW your comments about Breese Hall and his 50 touchdowns in 3 years. I sure hope the FO takes an extra close look at this guy!!
I remember not so long ago FAU’s Devin Singletary scored 66 rushing touchdowns in 3 years and nobody from the Miami FO even checked him out!! I think of that every time he takes off for big yardage for the Buffalo Bills!!
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33328477/former-miami-dolphins-coach-brian-flores-joins-pittsburgh-steelers-senior-defensive-assistant-linebackers-coach
Guess that makes his claim of being banned from the league less than the one of Kaepernick, who couldn’t even find a back-up gig.
I was thinking the same thing. He will spin it that he was only hired there because that is one of the few teams with an African American coach
I was thinking the same thing
He went from head coach to linebacker coach which is not the norm
Maybe the nfl didn’t ban him, but he’s gotta a pretty good argument to say he is being passed up for higher level jobs
Not a huge fan of Flores, but looking at his qualifications alone, I would have expected him to be offered a Job as a DC
There is only 32 DC jobs in the league. It’s not like there is an over abundance of opportunities
Do fish really rot from the head down?
Why?
Where do mammals rot from first?
Wouldn’t that be different because fish are cold blooded?
If so, then the point is moot, as dolphins are not fish.
… except maybe mahi mahi …
