Dolphins 2022 – Upgrade the roster

With the 2022 coaching staff intact, the next step is upgrading the personnel that plays on the gridiron. March 1-7 is the NFL Combine in Indiana. Unlike many years past, we’re not armed with an arsenal of picks, but it doesn’t matter. Just hit on a few picks and we’ll be a better team. In reality, the same teams are pretty much in the playoffs or at least in the hunt every season, despite picking near the end of each round and not having 10-12 draft picks. It’s the quality of the picks that count. Considering how much money we have available in 2022 cap space, we’ll already have addressed some key issues before we even enter the fray of the 2022 NFL Draft. The next most relevant date is March 8th, which is the deadline for teams to apply either the Franchise Tag or Transition Tag to players. I’ve actually never been less sure on how we proceed in this regard. You all know how much I love TE Mike Gesicki but I just don’t know what Mike McDaniel thinks about Gesicki and if he’s a viable fit in his system. His talent is undeniable as a receiver, but the biggest question is not necessarily whether he can block, it’s did the previous staffs even ask him to?

The next date is key for us, because March 14-16 is when teams can contact players/agents of NFL Unrestricted Free Agents (UFA’s). There will be fierce competition for O-line players as most every team has O-line issues. We’ll have to pay dearly to get who we want, but really, who cares? Just get them! Not my money, not my problem. This is why you get yourself in the position of having among the highest cap space, so you have the freedom to spend it. Let’s face it, we need at least 1 or 2 guys that will step in immediately and upgrade our offensive line. Draft picks, even the best of them have a break in period. We can’t afford that. This team has started slow each of the last 3 seasons and because of that, we were on the outside looking in during the playoffs. We need to come out of the gate quick, and 2 veteran anchors on the O-line would make that more likely. On March 16th, Free Agency begins and the cash will be flowing. Spend it well Miami! Also on March 1th, after 4PM, the trading opens up. Wouldn’t be surprised in the least to find us active there as well.

April 4th, The 2022 Miami Dolphins will get to work in practice as we will be among the teams with a new Head Coach, so we will begin offseason workouts. April 20th is the deadline for meetings between NFL teams and NFL Draft prospects. April 22nd is the date is the deadline for Restricted Free Agents (RFA’s) to sign their offer sheets. The 2022 NFL Draft is April 28-30. We can’t go into the draft desperate for help at any one position. If we handle our business properly in Free Agency, we just be adding talent to the roster, not relying on any one draft pick to be a star immediately at any given position. I’ve discussed the O-line so many times so I won’t repeat that, but WR and RB might be places where we upgrade. Despite the fact that DeVante Parker carries a reasonable salary, do we really want to count on him? I for one hope we don’t, and if we’re looking to replace him, former Chargers WR Mike Williams would be a nice target. He’s not as much of a 50/50 ball guy as Parker but he’s much more explosive, and reliable as far as staying healthy. We know we need weapons for Tua, and Williams would be a nice player. Chris Godwin is another big receiver, not quite as big as Williams who is 6’4 220, but at 6’1 he plays big. We need to sign a RB, as we are bereft at the moment on our roster. Myles Gaskin and Gerrid Doaks are the 2 rostered RB’s. Former Dolphins Duke Johnson and Phillip Linday are available, and some other interesting choices as well, like former 49er and Bills RB Matt Breida, who gushed about McD, and Rashaad Penny who had somewhat of a breakout season for Seattle and who just turned 26. We know we’re probably going to have a committee approach at RB so we’ll need solid depth. Hope we solve this puzzle well!!

    M13,
I’ve seen Brandon Smith play a number of times, as he plays in the Big 10. He reminds me of Parsons a little. PSU played him in off ball situations quite a bit, and I’d guess his missed tackles number was inflated because of it. He was often coming up on plays or breaking on passes. I do think he had a tendency to just fly like a missile to plays and didn’t always break down and make a proper tackle but that can be fixed with practice. I wouldn’t be too worried about his stats at this point.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Many have seen Brandon Smith kind of remind them of Parsons, so you certainly aren’t alone and your eyes are spot-on. If he can clean up his tackling, he could be a good one… but that’s the question to me: is he able and willing? If so (Combine interviews could be important on that question), he should be considered a 2nd rounder.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed. He’s also 20 years old. Very few college prospects are perfect players coming into the NFL if there even are any. Football is not a perfect game. Guys get beat or the score would be 0-0 all the time. When we see a great offensive player make moves and break tackles someone is being beat. I think Smith in our defense could be a very impactful player.

  2. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM
Yeah, Brown has some years, but he’s been pretty healthy his whole career. That’s why I said if they feel his age isn’t a problem. I’d kick the tires. I’d look at him for his veteran leadership and helping the young guys more than anything. That OL room needs it big time. There are other options for that too.
    ***
I wanted to draft Tomlinson, so that’d be fine with me. I think Williams may end up being comparable….or pretty close to it but cheaper. But again…I know nothing about the money end of things.

  3. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,
$13M a year for Williams? That’s insane. I just changed my mind. Lol

  4. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Randy, what you think of the OC’s in the draft? There seems to be only one stud but then there is a group of good ones who would be a good fit also. Though I have not looked up blocking schemes for all their schools yet.

Also, I know the difference between inside and outside zone blocking but is it an easy adjustment for a player to come from and inside zone to and outside zone system?

I know many teams will run both. Once a defense starts adjusting to the outside zone, they switch it up and run some inside zone.

  5. Randy's avatar Randy says:

So, if Williams is a $13M player, what will Tomlinson cost? $15-16M? $20M?

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

There’s nothing posted for Laken’s market value, but he’s 30 years old. Thus, he doesn’t have the potential ceiling that Connor possesses. I take a guess at around $9-10M/per, being he’s a pretty good player.

  6. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m sure all the coaches we hired on offense have a good feel for OL that will fit what they want to do. It may not be the names we’re talking about.

  7. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,
Oh boy, a dissertation on zone blocking, eh? Lol
    ***
It’s really not all that difficult. First, people get too caught up in “zone blocking” as if a player doesn’t block man to man in zone. You still do. It just depends on whether or not you’re covered or uncovered. If you’re covered….you’re gonna be blocking that defender most times. If you’re uncovered, you block a zone.
    ***
Outside zones require a bit more athleticism because you’re reaching on blocks more and blocking “play side”. Inside zone runs require your OL to step back against the grain of the play and engage in more combo blocks.
    ***
In theory, you want more athletic players the further out you’re asking them to block if that makes sense. But, as I’ve always said, you still need your OL to be able to block one-on-one because they do it all the time no matter the scheme.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Right! It’s still football, there is still contact. LOL

The zone system requires more athletic OL. That’s all.

The system that Mike McDaniel has grown up in as a coach is the offense uses a lot of movement and misdirection. You still have to execute no matter what system you run.

  8. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

As Lance Zierlien taught me, there are countless situations where a zone-blocking scheme MUST play man-to-man: goal-line sits, 3rd or 4th and short, etc.

  9. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Zone blocking is also more about positioning and angles, so you want guys who can take advantage of those angles with their athleticism. But, once you engage on a block, you’re pretty much man blocking.
    ***
It’s why zone blocking is harder. You need guys who can move in unison and be in the right spot at the right time. Timing is much more important, and it takes more discipline. In man blocking, often times you’re just trying to move a guy…often the way he is already trying to move…and allowing the RB to pick a hole and hit it.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yep! That’s why Mike Shanahan has said it’s not easy but he believes in it. The zone system is designed to stretch defenses wide and set them up inside and vertically. When it’s executed really well it’s very impressive. When we used to see Jerry Rice and other WRs all alone in the open field as if they weren’t covered, the system set them up to beat one guy. But as you always say, you need talent. 😉

  10. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Randy,

Do you have a favorite for our Center position in the Draft, or do ya think Michael Deiter can be ‘that guy’ for us?

  11. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,
Yeah, there are a handful of decent OC prospects this year. I want my Iowa boy, but if they feel a first round pick is too high a price to pay for a C, I can live with that. I’m not sure I’d go after any of the others before the third round but guys get over-drafted constantly these days.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Alright, that answers my question! I was going to say, other than a Kirk Ferentz-coached Center in the first round! 😉

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I have been looking to take one in the 4th Like Jurgens from Nebraska or the dude from Kentucky and Lindstrom from BC. Hearing good things about another IOL who moved to center in the Senior bowl and held his own really well in Strange from UT Chattanooga.

Again, don’t know enough about OL so I just pick one. lol

  12. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,
Deiter looked okay…not good or bad, but he wouldn’t be my first choice at C. I’d prefer him as a G/C swing guy. Since our pick is so low this year, I’d go after Linderbaum if he’s there. I think he has the potential to be really good in a couple years once he grows into his body a little more. He’d be great in a zone scheme too…and he’s a natural leader from what I’ve heard. Guys will not be dragging ass with him on the field. But, like I said, I can also hear the argument that may be too high to pick a C. I never lock in on needing to get any one player. I think that’s wrong thinking in the draft. It’s too fluid.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

JMO, IF Linderbaum is still available @ R1P29, he should be under consideration for us Phins.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I would because I just have a gut feeling he’s going to be a really good player and he fits what coach McD wants to install. We’re going to run a much more movement offense than we’ve seen in Miami for years.

Tua is not necessarily a running QB but he’s good on the move and extremely accurate throwing on the move. The run game with set up play-action and misdirection plays. Without the run game it doesn’t work.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Yessir @ Tim. Lindenbaum would fit with what we’re trying to do, IMO.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I’d have to agree. He has been there in some of my mocks but my mouse always seems to click on that speedy WR. lol

  13. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Randy,

You’ve probably already seen or heard of this, but did you know about Tyler Linderbaum pinning Tristan Wirfs in the Iowa State wrestling tourney?

  14. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,
Linderbaum is a badass. He has two things I really like in a C…or any OL. He started out as a defensive player, so he has a more attacking, aggressive attitude. You see it in his blocks a little when he over extends, and he’ll have to work on that. Then, he was a wrestler, which means he has a good understanding of leverage and working angles.
    ***
I’m certainly not comparing the two, but he reminds me of the sort of player Dwight Stephenson was.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Seriously, if a skill position talent like Jameson Williams slips to us @ R1P29 (injury), I’m running to the podium without hesitation. But if Williams isn’t there, I’ll take Lindenbaum in a HEARTBEAT.

I don’t understand how Lindenbaum has fallen from a top-10 pick to a projected 20-something pick.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We really don’t know who has dropped or risen in the draft yet. As we know the combine and pro days kind of figure that out for all sorts of reasons. I wouldn’t be surprised if Linderbaum goes long before we draft.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

This is TRUE! Nevertheless, why has he suddenly fallen in so many mocks? Doesn’t make sense to me. Are we missing something?

  15. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

FUBB is who I’d take at 29

  16. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,
Those are some good names. Go take a look at West from ASU, I think it is and Fortner from Kentucky.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Yeah, Fortner. Though Fortner may be the least athletic of the names I put out there but he is good. I watched the Kentucky OL vs UGA 2021 and he struggled but that was against possibly two 1st round DT’s on the same team with a crew of stellar LB’s.

I will check out West tonight. I think he was the one being considered OC2 after Linderbaum. Probably why I skipped past him as I have either looked at Linderbaum in the 1st or waited and looked for an OC in the 4th.

  17. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,
I don’t look at mock drafts too much, so I don’t really know where Linderbaum is projected. Most of them are done by guys who have no clue anyway. Lol
    ***
I just think the common wisdom has been that you don’t really need to spend a first round pick on a C. I think we’re seeing that thought process change a little with guards and centers these days. I just think Linderbaum has the potential to be an all pro sort of player. I’d spend a low first rounder on that. I always believe there’s less risk of failure or bust in OL than in skill positions. JMO.
    ***
Time to go eat and get ready for hockey. Later fellas. Good to talk some football.

  18. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

This is a deeper draft at WR than OL. You can get quality WRs in other rounds. OL seems to have a major drop off. That said, unless we get a special player on the OL early in the draft, we can’t afford to draft more developmental players up front. We need an infusion of some vets on the OL to get this group to take the next step.

…So in light of my walk down memory lane I respectfully ask the Admin’s to reconsider lifting the last 2 “Bans” from this site.

It’s not a highly important matter to me, and to be honest if it were me I’d not ever post here again.

But other than Home (whom I personally think did all of his schtick on propose) the other 2 were never really an issue for me.

    Just my 2 pennies
    ——————
I want to second this motion, and with respect to the Admins.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I would vote yea. Just stop overloading the blog with posts that suggest you know everything and the need to post it over and over in a psychotic way where there is no room for discussion without playing the victim. It became nauseating and then childish.

That’s why so many people stopped coming here as we’ve seen. If that happens again, it should be permanent.

  20. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I must bail as well. Great to talk some football here tonight! Be well, everybody.

  21. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Ok, had to do it

    29. Tyler Linderbaum IOL, Iowa
    50. Christian Watson WR, North Dakota State
    101. Leo Chenal LB, Wisconsin
    119. Brandon Smith LB, Penn State
    123. Max Mitchell OT, Louisiana
    157. Romeo Doubs WR, Nevada
    198. Markquese Bell S, Florida A&M
    221. C.J. Verdell RB, Oregon

I think Leo Chenal may be becoming my favorite ILB this draft. Dude is a monster at 6’2 250.

  22. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Leo chenal is huge with almost no body fat. I would love to get him at ILB.
I read a really negative report on the PSU LB.
I also read where some teams are crossing Linderbaum off their list as a sure thing starter because he’s too small. He only weighs 289 and can never get his weight up even to 300. They were saying his bone structure or frame is small and he’ll never be able to move nose tackles.

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

… I meant maybe that explains him dropping recently.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Watch zone centers play, they don’t even engage NTs, the guards pick him up and the center attacks the LBs down the field. That was Mike Pouncey’s game and he was 6-5 310. That’s on run plays. In the pass game there is a blocking scheme too. Centers are not usually your biggest and strongest players. They have to be smart, tough and mobile.

      • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

No I know, but I meant some teams run schemes he would not be suited for, so they will pass on him, so if you take those out, then he will slide, hopefully to us.

  23. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Naples, you could have a powerful 6-5 330 center who has no hand technique and movement skills. He struggles all the time and can’t block anyone because the game is about more than that.

  24. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Wyo, BBM, mf13ss, TK or Piggy, for that matter, why would you welcome a blogger on this board who always plays the victim when you disagree with his opinion?

Why would you be OK if that blogger’s rules of engagement means he can threaten or attack you here by discussing or bringing your family into a “discussion” on this board?

I have met some of these families, wives and kids and they have met my wife and family. None of you have except bbm and Piggy.

Civil discourse or blogging should be civil and I see NO room for family matters or threats of bringing one’s family unto a football blog, especially here.

    This isn’t war…..or maybe….

  25. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Someone has a T-shirt with all the bloggers’ avatars? LOL….wondering if I ever made T-shirt status, and if so, are there any left to buy. That’s a hoot!

  26. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

It’s also my understanding a lot of the bloggers on that T-shirt have left this blog because of the two that were banned.

And no one has left since they’ve been banned and a few, it seems, have returned.

    Hmmm….

  27. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

This week, Applebaum explained exactly what’s needed to have success in their new scheme.

“There’s a certain level of athleticism needed to play in the run scheme we’re talking about,” Applebaum said, via. Miami Herald. “Like a twitchiness, suddenness, ability to bend, change directions. You obviously need a certain level of size, too. There’s a premium on a certain level of athlete. There’s a mental processing that I think is important regardless of scheme. And a physical toughness.

“This is a scheme where you have to try to get after your opponent consistently throughout the play. It’s not the kind of thing where you can wall a guy off and the play is over for you. That ball can go a lot of places and it happens later on in the play so you’ve really got to strain.”

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Not sure which of our guys fit that and which do not (except Kindley). Seems a key is the speed to get to those 2nd level blocks, which they haven’t really been called on to do the last couple years.

I find it pretty remarkable it has gone this long….in fact, it’s fucking amazing to me!

There are some smart, talented Dolphin fans on this blog. And yes, some of our families have met. And, why I keep coming back.

Civil discourse does not include attacking family or threatening to do that. It crosses the line.

I have never seen it on this blog until recently…….that will kill the blog for sure!

I’m not defending the actions of anyone on here. getting personal in a way that is not supportive will always be seen as “too far”

Because others have left for bloggers that are still allowed to type on the site!

….not sure what you mean by conception….lol.

  30. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I want to take a moment to discuss the reasons why the action was taken by the admins. Yes this place was dying. It was dying largely as a result of the actions of 2 people. I will not reveal all the names of the long time bloggers here that privately emailed and or texted me that they were done with this site unless something was done about those 2. I am sure you are aware that a number of bloggers openly posted here that they were done with this site because of those 2. Both of them were asked repeatedly to modify their behavior. Neither did. Specifically, Rob was called out about his absolutely uncalled for post about Krishna’s deceased wife and rather than apologize he played the victim as if he did nothing wrong and it was Krishna’s fault as to why Rob felt it necessary to disparage Krishna’s deceased wife. Since being banned neither has made any effort to apologize or recognize the wrong of their actions and both have email addresses for some or all of the admins. In fact Rob has specifically let it be known to 3rd parties that he has no intention of coming back and the ban can be permanent for as much as he cares. Whether or not that is hubris or how he really feels is unknown but he has made no effort to express otherwise. Since both have been banned many of the bloggers are back and or posting with more frequency. We have had a significant uptick in posts and zero personal attacks with relative peace and quite. I appreciate the sentiment of those have asked for banishment to be rescinded at it will be put to the admins and what the majority decides will be the course of action we pursues. But I just wanted to remind everyone as to why it was done. It was done because the blog was dying and in fact would have been dead if we didn’t take the action we did.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

FWIW I didn’t want to ban anyone, but seeing people come back who stayed away makes it seem worthwhile. I just hope the folks that stayed away and are back now stay here and contribute more often.

Naples, someone posted about Leo Chenal a while back. I must have killed that brain cell because I don’t know why I didn’t remember him until now.

I would use our 2nd rounder on him in a heartbeat. There are not many LB’s built like him that come around too often. We have not had an ILB/MLB like him since #54. Chad Muma would be my backup plan.

I would go as far to say I would prefer him at 6’2 250 over Nakobe Dean who comes in at only 6′ 225. Dean gives you that sideline to sideline speed. Chenal gives you a powerful run stuffer. Dean can get swallowed up sometimes by big OL and Chenal, not so much. TE’s and especially RB’s cannot block Chenal. Tackling and blitzing is a wash between the two. Pass coverage goes to Dean.

As far as LB Brandon Smith, I think his freak athleticism and speed is worth a 4th round pick which is where I have been taking him in my mocks lately.

I definitely think we need to upgrade the WR unit. Here’s an article about Allen Robinson, but have no idea….

I actually wouldn’t mind Mike Williams from the Chargers. I like having that go to big receiver, especially if we don’t re-sign Gesicki. He’s a big YPC receiver, averaging 16.1 in his career, a big play receiver. Draft another young WR to make a formidable trio and the field will open up.

I want a proven guy like Williams. Hollins is a nice ST’s player, decent at best as a WR. He’s not even in the same sentence as Mike Williams. I don’t want questions on the offense anymore, I want ANSWERS!!!

Saturday Dolphins Mailbag: Have the Dolphins Really Let Good Players Get Away in Free Agency?
Addressing various Miami Dolphins topics, such as Tua’s confidence, Gesicki possibly getting tagged and the likelihood of keeping both starting cornerbacks Xavien Howard and Byron Jones
    ALAIN POUPARTFEB 26, 2022
Part 2 of the latest SI Fan Nation All Dolphins mailbag:

    From ChrisDavis (@KyLouFinFan):

Thanks. What’s up with the Josh Boyer thing? Was he calling plays all of 2021? Does that make him responsible for the bad games or the good games or both? Are the players pissed he’s back or is it just a couple? Did seem unusual even if predicted he’d be brought back.

Hey Chris, Boyer was asked directly this week during the assistant coaches media session and he said that he indeed called all the defensive plays his two years as defensive coordinator. Now, he also said that a lot of those calls are pre-determined based on conversations with the entire staff throughout the week and a game plan finalized on Saturday. I don’t know whether the players are pissed he’s back, though Omar Kelly reported there were at least some of them not too happy about it. Did it seem unusual he was retained? No, if you consider the published reports that the head coaching candidates were encouraged to move forward with Tua as the quarterback and retain most of the defensive coaching staff, but yes in the big picture because a new head coach usually means new coordinators.

    From Reza Hariri (@Therealrezpect1):

Miami’s issue in FA is letting their good players walk because they don’t want to overpay, yet they overpay for someone else’s talent that’s not a know commodity. We may lose Ogbah and/or Gesicki because we don’t want to overpay but that causes loss of continuity & creates hole.

Hey Reza, that sounds more like a comment than a question, but since you put it in the mailbag, I’ll assume you’d like my take on this. Here it goes: I think your point is off the mark. The Dolphins have seen 22 players leave as unrestricted free agents the past five offseasons and here’s the list: Matt Breida, Julien Davenport, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kamu Grugier-Hill, Matt Haack, Ted Karras, Davon Godchaux, Evan Boehm, Brandon Bolden, Frank Gore, Ja’Wuan James, Wesley Johnson, Senorise Perry, Cameron Wake, Jermon Bushrod, Terrence Fede, Cody Parkey, Michael Thomas, Damien Williams, Jelani Jenkins, Dion Sims and T.J. Yates. Please tell how many of them made a major impact with their new team.

  51. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I had no clue the banned posters were causing so many to leave or not post but I also didn’t enjoy coming to hear about Tua’s arm all day or David’s sometimes constant political ramblings. I enjoy talking politics especially with Stanger and Piggy whose views make me think in different ways but those are usually balanced and respectful discussions.

Anyone that disparages someone’s wife, kids, or deceased family has serious issues. Issues that shouldn’t be allowed on a family type blog. I don’t mind places with extreme views, but this isn’t one of them and the admins have made that clear many times. If you can’t follow basic rules and provide civil discourse when asked, I think banning is a viable solution and it’s used in all online sites. I have no problem with the continued bans.

  52. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I would still take a chance on Jameson Williams if he fell to #29. He is a talent that doesn’t come around often with his height 6’2 and speed in the low 4.3’s. There isn’t another WR in this draft who has better get off vs man/press coverage than him. I also have not seen a WR coming out of college who is this good setting up his defender and accelerating out of his cut in a long time. He gets really good separation.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

There is no doubting his talent. He would open up our offense for sure. It’s all about his injury and how his rehab is going.

  53. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

  54. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Was thinking about what coach McD was saying early on – that he wants a quicker pass game. Tua is known for quick accurate throws. We saw how Waddle was productive with that. When thinking about WRs think speed. Guys who can get open quickly and get YAC. More speed helps Waddle when it’s not just about him.

We may not see a lot of 50+ yards in the air TDs, but we might see more slants and crossing routes in the 7-15 yard range go for TDs. That’s why the run game is so important. You freeze LBs and Safeties when you can run. Boom!!! Quick play-action passes get behind the LBs and challenge the Safeties with speed. I think this is how the offense is going to be built. We also have a WRs coach in Welker who knows something about how to get open quickly and get YAC.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I would target Braxton Berrios from the Jets. That guy plays at 100mph like Welker did. He’s a quality return man and can run some jet sweeps. He fits the quick pass game.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Someone else brought his name up also. It’s not a bad idea, though he is another slot guy not that it matters as much.

I hated when the Pats drafted him but then he got hurt and never played a down for them.

I think he was a mid 4.4 guy which is good when you couple that with his short area quickness and run after the catch ability.

  55. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I would be ecstatic to roll with a WR room of waddle lazard berrios bowden Parker and a high speed draftee. And Find a way to keep hollins.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I like Allen Lazard. He’s a tough guy who can be a 3-4 WR. For me Hollins gives you depth at WR with size and he’s a STs ace. Like you said; Waddle, Berrios, Bowden, Parker and a rook who also fits the quick pass game. There is a nice blend of size and speed there. That’s 7 WRs and that’s doable because Berrios is a return guy.

  56. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

BBM and Naples, run the ball consistently for 3-5 yards, then quick 5-10 yard pass plays to set up bigger pass plays. That’s what I think we’re going to see.

  57. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I think they will be looking to use Waddle like a Welker/Edleman type. Get it to him quick and let him do his thing. With that, I think we need to find a burner to take the top off in the draft. If Jameson Williams is there at #29 we should take him. That or Christian Watson at #50.

For 6’5 208 (also seen him listed at 6’4 211) with 4.38 speed, Watson is really good after the catch and on end arounds. He is a WR who could be used multiple ways.

This is the best compilation of him just released:

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

He ran a lot of end arounds.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Attack defenses with quickness and deception. It’s great to have a burner to take the top off. But Waddle can be that too. Our offense this past season was kind of hampered for lots of reasons. I still want to see if coach McD sees Gesicki as a fit. For me it’s really about his market price.

I think Berrios is a great fit. He could be a 60+ catch 10 YPC WR who can make some big plays as a return man and a rusher at times. He’s one of those over-achievers who is a football player. He can do a lot of things for your team. He’s in his prime as a 5th year player. He’s definitely a Welker/Edelman type of player.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

What is your thoughts on drafting a rookie WR and where? I think we will have to consider Garrett Wilson and Burks gone by #29 with an outside chance Williams falls. I still see many mocks having him go #15 to #21.

I am really stuck on Watson at #50.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I want to see what we do in FA first. This is a new regime under coach McD. The offense needs to get better however that happens. Once we see what we did in FA, we’ll have a better idea about the draft. If we sign two WRs in FA, I don’t know the target at #29. Don’t be surprised if we trade up.

Get better players and become a good team. I think we can be that. The last 2 years we were 19-14. We’re not 2-3 years away. It can happen this year. Why can’t we be the Bengals in 2022?

We need to add the talent to make that happen. We have a good core to build on.

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

You are right. I get so damn impatient. lol All my mocks are done thinking about what we may do in FA. It’s just a crap shoot until we are well into the signing period.

Try to tag and trade Gesicki for a day 2 pick like we did Jarvis Landry. It will cost just over 10mil but, in this draft and where we pick at the bottom of the 3rd, an extra day 2 pick would be huge.

If you don’t get a trade partner, you have Gesicki at reasonable price and 1 year to see if you can make him fit in this offense.

I am on board with that!

He also mentioned trading Byron Jones but didn’t sound good and we should keep our secondary intact.

Another would be to trade Parker but may only get a mid-round pick (my guess, late 4th or 5th) due to his injury history.

Rowe is another one who would not hurt us where we could get a day 3 pick.

Lastly, he mentioned Gaskin which I think would be a huge mistake to basically gut our entire RB room leaving us with just Doaks heading into FA and the draft.

On Dolphins trade up scenario from Fansided

With the 2022 class being a wildly unpredictable one, there is a good chance that some highly touted players start to slip in the first round. Just in browsing certain mock drafts around the web, it is easy to see the variations in where “experts” predict that players will be selected. Should this be the case, then the Miami Dolphins could be direct benefactors.

Makes me think how little the draft value chart really means at face value

In this scenario a player you like drops, so you trade up to take him, but give up more than the chart says

If you like a do everything and just an all-round football player, Montana State LB Troy Anderson, 6’4 235 pounds, may be your guy and the next Crash Jensen. Though he is also someone with a real potential to grow into a full-time starter.

First, he started off as a running QB for Montana State and as a sophomore QB he ran for over 1400 yards and had 21 TD’s and was selected 3rd Team All American.

His junior year, he thought it would be fun to play defense and LB. He ended up playing offense and defense that year and was selected 1st Team All American at LB. His senior year, he focused mostly on defense and was selected 1st Team All American again and selected as the Big Sky DPOY.

He was also said to be the fastest player on the Montana State football team.

I could see him used in multiple roles, first on ST, backup LB (initially) and FB.

I DO know that you’ve the propensity to really troll when you feel like it. You’ve come VERY close to pushing me over the ledge a few times, and you know it. I ask you to stop doing that to others you disagree with.

I’m trying VERY hard to get along with everyone here these days, and that includes you, dude. ORob and I go back to 2006, and he’s one of my best blog friends. He’s been nothing less than respectful and cool to fellow bloggers, even when we disagree. Seems that’s a very rare trait these days.

Respectfully, why did you troll ORob to the point that he’d actually talk smack to you? Was that necessary for you to do? Was that the reaction you wanted from him? Were you trying to bait him into a banning? Why did you do that to him?

I’m NOT trying to defend what he said to you, Krishna… not at all: we were all disgusted with his frustrated response to you, invoking your wife. But I AM a man of cause and effect, and it seems you did your very best to bring out the very worst in ORob… NOT COOL.

ORob is my friend for life (LUV that cat!), and he’s not the type of individual to flip out over trivial BS. You were part of the problemo, dude. You outright PROVOKED him to lash out against you. Two wrongs don’t make a right, but YOU were the cause of the effect. I’ve NEVER seen him do that to ANY blogger over the close to two decades I’ve known him, over 4 different websites… YOU are playing the victim card on this one.

As for David? I LUV that cat, too! His heart is SO big! He’s a good dude, too… even if he’d start the morning off with some rambling BS about his politics! LOL

Different is beautiful! God bless variety! We just need to be civil, ya know? No need to provoke, no need to poke anyone with a stick, no need to discredit another because they don’t think like yourself, and no need to drive a wedge between a fellow blogger.

I’d like to ATTEMPT a reconciliation between you and ORob, Krishna. Let me know if you’d like to do this, sir.

I guess that says it all. I asked a pointed qquestion and this is your spew. All you had to do was answer a simple question. You layered it with the above. Good post.

      You confirmed it for me.

Cause and effect, my guy. If ORob is going to catch flack, the one who drove him to talk smack about your wife (God rest her soul) should be considered.

Needless to say, ORob didn’t just come out of the blue to attack you, right? And once again, I’m not defending him for causing you grief regarding your wife.

You pushed him HARD, ya know? Was it worth it? Of course not.

You are so wrong on this!

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

You obviously have ethical issues….and once again prove to me your tribalism.

You are so far from 1 love I can’t imagine how you dressed yourself in that and people believed you…lol.

  85. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Lol…geez, loueez, too distracted. It makes a difference when you meet people…eye to eye…at least for me.

  86. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    Case in point….

I think steveccnv hated me until we met eye to eye….at a fest.

I could be wrong, I think he hates me less…lmao 😜

Face to face is always better than the written word.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

      Not always, but generally, yes.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You know what I mean. Unless someone is an asshole, it’s easy to discuss all kinds of topics face to face because you can see the demeanor. Say you’re at BBQ and having a few beers. You can disagree, pat each other on the back and ask do you need another beer. Conversations move faster in person. On blogs and such, it sometimes takes hours or a few days to come to conclusions that in person take minutes. LOL

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

        Yeah, I hear ya, man.

  88. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

For you it’s tribal….I have no tribe. I walk alone and seek good people.

  89. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Always face to face…you can ask for validation from the last fest….and anyone else who wants to know me.

I walked right up to steveccnv at the last fest and introduced myself. Then, stangerx made us sit together…..lmao. It worked.

  90. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Krishna,

I’m being very serious… I’d be happy to get you and ORob to reconcile.

  91. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Oh by the way, you still haven’t answered my question, like bbm didn’t. Your response was not an answer to my question.

Is it ok to attack people’s family on this blog? Yes or no. KISS!

When are the 40 dash times going to be posted?
I thought the WRs and TEs and QBs (who cares) were running today.
