With the 2022 coaching staff intact, the next step is upgrading the personnel that plays on the gridiron. March 1-7 is the NFL Combine in Indiana. Unlike many years past, we’re not armed with an arsenal of picks, but it doesn’t matter. Just hit on a few picks and we’ll be a better team. In reality, the same teams are pretty much in the playoffs or at least in the hunt every season, despite picking near the end of each round and not having 10-12 draft picks. It’s the quality of the picks that count. Considering how much money we have available in 2022 cap space, we’ll already have addressed some key issues before we even enter the fray of the 2022 NFL Draft. The next most relevant date is March 8th, which is the deadline for teams to apply either the Franchise Tag or Transition Tag to players. I’ve actually never been less sure on how we proceed in this regard. You all know how much I love TE Mike Gesicki but I just don’t know what Mike McDaniel thinks about Gesicki and if he’s a viable fit in his system. His talent is undeniable as a receiver, but the biggest question is not necessarily whether he can block, it’s did the previous staffs even ask him to?
The next date is key for us, because March 14-16 is when teams can contact players/agents of NFL Unrestricted Free Agents (UFA’s). There will be fierce competition for O-line players as most every team has O-line issues. We’ll have to pay dearly to get who we want, but really, who cares? Just get them! Not my money, not my problem. This is why you get yourself in the position of having among the highest cap space, so you have the freedom to spend it. Let’s face it, we need at least 1 or 2 guys that will step in immediately and upgrade our offensive line. Draft picks, even the best of them have a break in period. We can’t afford that. This team has started slow each of the last 3 seasons and because of that, we were on the outside looking in during the playoffs. We need to come out of the gate quick, and 2 veteran anchors on the O-line would make that more likely. On March 16th, Free Agency begins and the cash will be flowing. Spend it well Miami! Also on March 1th, after 4PM, the trading opens up. Wouldn’t be surprised in the least to find us active there as well.
April 4th, The 2022 Miami Dolphins will get to work in practice as we will be among the teams with a new Head Coach, so we will begin offseason workouts. April 20th is the deadline for meetings between NFL teams and NFL Draft prospects. April 22nd is the date is the deadline for Restricted Free Agents (RFA’s) to sign their offer sheets. The 2022 NFL Draft is April 28-30. We can’t go into the draft desperate for help at any one position. If we handle our business properly in Free Agency, we just be adding talent to the roster, not relying on any one draft pick to be a star immediately at any given position. I’ve discussed the O-line so many times so I won’t repeat that, but WR and RB might be places where we upgrade. Despite the fact that DeVante Parker carries a reasonable salary, do we really want to count on him? I for one hope we don’t, and if we’re looking to replace him, former Chargers WR Mike Williams would be a nice target. He’s not as much of a 50/50 ball guy as Parker but he’s much more explosive, and reliable as far as staying healthy. We know we need weapons for Tua, and Williams would be a nice player. Chris Godwin is another big receiver, not quite as big as Williams who is 6’4 220, but at 6’1 he plays big. We need to sign a RB, as we are bereft at the moment on our roster. Myles Gaskin and Gerrid Doaks are the 2 rostered RB’s. Former Dolphins Duke Johnson and Phillip Linday are available, and some other interesting choices as well, like former 49er and Bills RB Matt Breida, who gushed about McD, and Rashaad Penny who had somewhat of a breakout season for Seattle and who just turned 26. We know we’re probably going to have a committee approach at RB so we’ll need solid depth. Hope we solve this puzzle well!!

GO DOLPHINS!!!!
Talk about career suicide. Affairs some people can sometimes get over, but….
“Two-term U.S. Representative Van Taylor on Wednesday withdrew from a Republican primary run-off race, ending his reelection bid after admitting he had an extra-marital affair with the widow of an American who joined the Islamic State.”
Either he has integrity finally or news of came out about it and he felt hopeless
Wish a few other politicians would step down after news of them came out like Swallwell
Swallwell was single at the time, didn’t know what the women was doing, and broke it off as soon as US intelligence told him. So don’t see the direct comparison.
One of his rivals got his mistress to break the news.

“Q — Of the two key free agents, the Dolphins appear closer with Ogbah than Gesicki.
Grier said of the two, he has had more discussions regarding Ogbah with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Grier said talks about extending Ogbah date back to “throughout the course of the season,” an important distinction because Ogbah fended off reporters’ inquiries on negotiations as the season progressed.
“We know what he is,” Grier said of Ogbah. “He’s a good guy, good player, good person. Fits all the criteria we’re looking for.”
Which isn’t to shortchange Gesicki, subject of “limited” talks between his agents and the team.
“Mike knows how I feel about him,” Grier said.
Bottom line: “They both told us they want to be back in Miami. They both love it here.”
Not having Ogbah would be a disaster for Grier
Grier on McDaniel
“He made no bones about he wanted the job. He thought it was a great fit for him.”
And — “Some of the stuff he’s talked about doing now is so outside the box. It’s been very interesting, just how he approaches it.” Should be interesting to watch the O next season.
👍
Is that a thumbs up?????
lol, yes, not a middle finger
We have a theme. Where’s Zach?
It’s for the Hurricanes, not us
I forgot the 😉
Gotta read my URL’s more carefully.
well, maybe James Cook can make dolphins fans into Cook Fans!
29.Nakobe Dean LB Georgia
50.Kenneth Walker RB Michigan State
101.Alec Lindstrom OC Boston College
120.Calvin Austin III WR Memphis
124.Jeffrey Gunter EDGE Coastal Carolina
158.Myron Cunningham OT Arkansas
199.Shaun Jolly CB Appalachian State
222.Emeka Emezie WR North Carolina State
Like Austin III, he is versatile.
Great draft
Wyoming, Breece Hall has been talked about as a high 4.4 to low 4.5. Which still is not bad for a RB. I think he is faster. Maybe that is what he is talking about, and he is hoping to put up a sub 4.4.
I’m looking to get better vision, not necessarily faster
Yeah, in this scheme vision is should be top of the list. Kenneth Walker might be the best in that regard. I just find it hard to pull the trigger that early on a RB. If that is the way it goes down, I will be saying, “Hell yeah!”.
A RB I like late with good vision is CJ Verdell. He has a good burst and power. He has a compact think size at 5’8 211 pounds. Kind of MJD ish.
thick not think
I don’t think he is that fast tough. He doesn’t have a quick burst of acceleration, but he is a big dude. You can see he has some speed when he gets going. He’s a good receiving back also.
Hmmmmmmm?????
not great odds.
Why would we want to trade for that bum, give up lots of picks and pay him lots of money?
So are any of you guys going to tune into the underwear Olympics tonight? I don’t have NFL Network on my cable system so I won’t be, but I probably wouldn’t anyway.
Lol….so why do you know about and pretend you won’t watch? Lmao..
Due diligence
Spiller and Hall are one in the same, IMO. Big backs with not a lot of burst and about 4.5 speed. Both have good vision and are good receiving backs.
It’s nice to see the Dolphins are talking to guys the blog likes. I don’t remember those reports in past years. Would like for it to be more than just talk though. There are several good guys at picking college prospects here.
It looks like if we want to go for a RB in rounds 2-4, we’ll have a choice of a few good ones.
I think so.
I can’t verify that this is real but
How much does this QB class suck? Panthers are the second QB needy team who has said they were going BPA with their first pick.
I know, smoke screens and all that but I believe it this year.
Took our office break lunch (every Thursday) and may not go back. It’s gorgeous outside….lol. Love being an owner…..
Football is the ultimate team sport. You have to be able to communicate with one another and have chemistry. How do you do that without building relationships? And, the window for most is very short.
McD seems to get that.
There are many ways to build a team…and create those relationships and chemistry.

Ugh, my mother in law is going to be visiting next Thursday and staying with us for nearly a week. She’s always been real great to me and really isn’t a bad person if you can get past the blatant racism and xenophobia…
Ugh that’s rough. There’s been times in my life when in social settings some people think it’s okay to say stuff like that and I needed to get away. For some reason I always needed to get another beer even though I just opened one. LOL
My wife and I have agreed we’ll not go out with her in public again. It usually isn’t bad unless she’s drinking, but the last time we went out it was so bad, we said never again, lol.

THIS IS A JOKE NOT A POLITICAL STATEMENT:
Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Queen Elizabeth all die on the same day and go to Hell.
While being processed in they see a red telephone and Putin asks “what is the red phone for?”
The Devil explains that it is a direct line back to earth that can be used one time by each person admitted to Hell but there is a cost.
Putin asks to use it and is on the phone for 5 minutes giving instructions to his Oligarchs. When he gets off the Devil says “that will cost you 1000 years in agony”
The Queen then asks to use the phone. She is on for 20 Minutes. When she hangs up the Devil says “that will cost you 4000 years in agony”
Trump then asks to use the phone and he is on for FOUR HOURS. When he gets off the phone the Devil tells him “that will cost you 20 minutes in agony”
Hearing this Putin loses it and starts screaming about how unfair it is. After letting Putin rant for a while the Devil interrupts him. “STOP! It is completely fair! Since Bidan took over the whole country has gone to hell so it’s a local call!”
Cardinals basically need WR’s bad. They are letting AJ Green and Christian Kirk go to free agency. Now they are letting Andy Isabella pursue a trade. He has not done much in 3 years in the NFL and fell out of favor last year.
He is a small quick WR with 4.31 speed. Think Welker might be able to turn him around? Is he worth a shot at 1.1 mil and a late round pick?
Second thought, I may pass. Things should have clicked for him by now.
I’d take a flier on him, seems to be able to catch the deep ball, can take the short one to the house, quick tough, just don’t really like small WRs with a small QB
Things haven’t clicked yet, maybe he wasn’t used correctly
https://www.nfl.com/news/2022-nfl-scouting-combine-seven-candidates-to-run-fastest-40-yard-dash
I’m starting to think Dotson is a legit target for us
The good thing is that it’s a deep draft for WRs.
great route runner which is important in the NFL
Woolen might not have the fastest 40 times, but when mph are used, which is more accurate, because it measures top speed and not how fast you get out of the block probably has the fastest playing speed of this group

I believe it is.

Oh, pretty sure meth is illegal…lol
Treylon Burks just now ran a 4.55 40, which is adequate, middling, not a deal breaker, but not a deep threat on speed.
benchmark —
Deebo ran a 4.48 for comparison.
pardon my typo … i meant to type 4.50
Dotson just ran a 4.41, reinforcing him as a first rounder and my fave WR.
further comp time:
Waddle ran a 4.37 (unofficial) … but there is video of him finishing in a tie running with Henry Ruggs, who was clocked at 4.27 at the combine (Waddle was hurt and did not run there.)
WOW
waddle article
https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2021/3/11/22323533/2021-nfl-draft-daniel-jeremiah-jaylen-waddle-fastest-gps-wide-receiver
Burks running a 4.50 is not bad. He was projected to run a 4.45.
His game is about so much more than running in a straight line.
Yep!
Dotson was projected to run a 4.35. A 4.41 is still take it to the house speed.
You don’t really want big RBs in an outside zone scheme….unless they are also fast and have good change of direction. Is there one of those we can draft after round 3?
***
I really haven’t started my draft dive yet, but I think I’m gonna look for a RB who I can convert to a FB. A guy who can block and catch.
Randy, check out CJ Verdell. His season was ended by a bad ankle injury requiring surgery. He has been cleared to participate in the combine.
Dotson 36, Burks 33 in the vertical (lower middle). Chris Olave was nearer to last, tied at 32.
Alec Pierce out of Cincy, one of my late round maybes, jumped 40.5 in the vert !!!!
that was the best.
Calvin Austin tore up his combine, 4.32 40, 11’3″ broad jump and 39″ vertical.
yep
terrific athlete
BBM
Here you go.
Christian Watson led the field in the broad jump at 11’4″ !
Demonstrates explosiveness. Did he not run the 40?
I guess not.
????
BBM,
Will do. Thanks!
He is not one you would convert to FB. He is one of those small thick compacts, 5’8 211. He comes from a zone scheme, has a quick burst and good speed.
My top fullback was Connor Heyward son of Hardhead Heyward, but he converted to TE this last season. I like the FB from Purdue that Naples turned me onto.
Guess we will have to wait on pro days for some of these guys.
Olave 4.26
Can’t lie: Johan Dotson coupled with Jaylen Waddle would be SICK… very reminicent of the Marx Brothers in a new era — on paper — only a bit taller. But the O-Line must get fixed in order to get the best out of them.
And that stated, we also must have possession WRs to complement the burners. Re-sign Gesicki and stick with DeVante.
^
I was thinking about that today wouldn’t it be cool if we had another Duper and Clayton duo for a number of years with Tua.
We could make it happen, if all falls in our favor! 🙂
It’s a deep draft for WRs and there is a lot of speed. #29 is not a bad spot for a WR. But it’s deep into the 2nd and 3rd round too. I’m pretty sure we can get a good one.
Russia attacks Nuclear Power Plant. They are pushing the world’s buttons to see how they will react. Scary shit!
As I understand it, Russia attacked the front office of the power plant. Everything thus far is under control. Nuclear containment is certified and all is well… again, thus far.
Scary shit, nonetheless, Bro!
Refer to my second sentence.
That’s why I agreed with ya: scary shit!
I meant I know they didn’t bomb the nuclear energy itself. But it was a more extreme action than tilting into a no fly zone. It’s about sending a message. Putin is thumping his chest and who the fuck knows what else he’ll do.
Understood and totally agreed with ya, Bro.
Panthers win
Heat win
Underwear Olympics?
Tim,
We’re getting ever closer to FA. Who do you think we target, other than re-signing some of our own, man?
I’m thinking Laken Tomlinson (as many here have mentioned previously: now linked to Coach McDaniel) and Marcus Mariota. I could see this.
Tomlinson makes total sense. Not sure if we target a top OT but maybe a guy we don’t really focus on but fits what we want to run. I do think 2-3 FA OL is possible.
I don’t have a lot of names, but I do think we will sign QB, RB and WR in FA. When you think about it, we don’t have an offense with an identity or a history of success because most of it is really young. I’m all in with what coach McD wants to do on offense. Tua and Waddle are the only locks for me.
I can sense you on the other side of the keyboard… you’re thinking about how can I talk about football when we could literally be obliterated at any moment by Putin.
Either that, or your just taking a dump… 😆
LOL!
And by the way, *you’re from above.
Tim Knight says:

…Tua and Waddle are the only locks for me.
———–
Understood, but I DO have high hopes for some of our younger cats… specifically Eich.
Comparatively speaking, I know Eich could beat (Billy) Turner in terms of their relative upsides, as drafted. Eich is going to be a future star, IMO.
I’m not saying it’s going to be just two guys, but I’m not sure anyone else is a lock. I could see us using trades, FA and the draft to revamp the entire offense.
Tyquan Thorton Baylor WR: 4.21 in the 40
I think Brandon Jones may be the most underrated player on the team. He’s a physical Safety who is an excellent blitzer, can play the run and is decent in coverage. He’s a good tackler. I can see him making that jump in his 3rd season. Not sure what that means for Eric Rowe, but I think it’s possible we can keep both. I hope we re-sign Needham. He’s a good DB. He’s a gamer.
CB Howard, Jones and Needham
S Holland, Jones and Rowe
That’s a quality secondary.
I would say Seiler is right there with Jones . I hope we sign Needham, Rowe may be a cap casualty .
Seiler is very good in his role. Rowe would probably have to restructure. I don’t think he’ll get the same money with another team either. He might be entering 1 year $2.5M territory.
I mentioned this the other day with Josh Boyer saying he sees a defense from the back end first as a DC. We hired Madison and Surtain as DB coaches. Remember how they played? Press man and quarters defense which is a hybrid man/zone coverage scheme. The idea is to not give up much room for receivers to works with. Always contested. Then we blitz.
I guess they ran some more 40 s after I went to bed.
sheesh
That’s late, but they do play football late at night, so I guess it’s not too freaky.
So … sorry if some of the times I posted above have changed.
And wow Christian Watson may have vaulted himself into the first round with his combine performance.
Sorry if this is repeat post. I just read it and interesting stuff about McD and staff excited to work with Tua:
https://www.si.com/nfl/dolphins/news/miami-dolphins-gm-chris-grier-stamps-tua-as-starter-and-shuts-down-watson-talk
Some you have mentioned these potential draft picks:
https://dolphinstalk.com/2022/03/one-player-from-every-position-dolphins-fans-should-pay-attention-to-at-the-nfl-combine/
We need Grier to have another top of the draft like he did last year, but first get some quality free agents while spending the money wisely.
This is the truth.
I think he can do this.
We don’t have the picks to make it happen, getting 3 studs picking at 29, 50, 101 would be quite an accomplishment
I’d take a top WR at 29, a good RB at 50 and maybe an ILB at 101 or switch RB with ILB
I’m talking about hitting on the picks with guys who contribute right away. No potential project guys like Austin Jackson or Iggy. The 3 spots you mentioned are exactly who I think we should be targeting.
We need to fix our roster issues in FA something like what the cheats did last year
Get 2 starting OL, re-sign Duke and Lindsay, re-sign Gesicki and Smythe, resign Ogbah, then draft WR, ILB, RB
Doesn’t seem like we need that much from either FA or the draft, but we do have to fill several roster spots
We need about 11-15 FA signed, including our own
Yeah, we have a way to go with only 49 players currently on the roster. Tua and Streveler are the only QB’s. Need about 2 more for camp. Not to mention we need RB’s and LB’s.
I don’t count the camp bodies already on the roster, I’m talking only about the 53
There’s at least 10 guys on our current roster, that won’t make the team, hard to believe another 5-7 won’t make it either, guys like Munson will be replaced, we have too much cap space not too plus 6 or 7 drafted rookies
I don’t know where these sub 4.3 times are coming from. Looking at the official times on NFL.COM there was only 1 WR under 4.3 and that was Tyquon Thornton at 4.28. With that said there is a good bit of speed in this draft. Depending on which result site you look at there were 7-9 players who ran a sub 4.4 add in J.Williams and that makes 8-10.
Though the top 5 fastest were all considered 4th round or later prospects due to route running and trouble getting off press coverage. They all solidified their draft status and probably improved where they get selected.
Another WR who helped his cause is Pickens running a 4.47 when he was projected at 4.59. Still not a huge fan as he has issues getting separation.
Jaylen Nailor was supposed to be a low 4.4 guy but may have hurt himself running a 4.5. The 2 who hurt themselves the most were David Bell and Dontario Drummond both running a 4.65.
Speed isn’t everything. They need to have a good get off, sell their routes, change up tempo and accelerate out of breaks. If you can master all these, it doesn’t matter if you are a 4.4 or a 4.5 guy.
I know that’s the time that was posted on the TV when they ran.
But I was asleep before they became the “official” time
I like velus Jones late for welker type WR and ST KR type guy. Said to be a great gunner.
I agree. He has good size also at 6′ 204. He was one with route running issues but that may not be on him as much as it was on TN. They only used him with a limited route tree. I think Welker can make him much better. He has all the tools.
They thought Tua was (put) in a good position last year?
Maybe with his pocket presence they forgot how bad the OL really was
BBM Khalil Shakir Had a good night!
Yes, he did and even beat his projected time. He has a lot to work with and versatile.

Depends what he means by WRs being a bigger concern than OL
Is he talking about current guys on the roster with untapped potential? So he’s thinking the OL has the guys on the roster now, that just need to be coached up? While the WRs on the roster are hopeless as a group, because they’ll never fit in the system?
Overall don’t agree, with Waddle, Bowden, Parker, Hurns as our only vet WRs on the roster we need 2 to 3 more, Hollins should be re-signed, but maybe he replaces Hurns
Think we get at least a Barrios in FA, so maybe 1 more, which we’ll draft
How can it be such a concern, if we can easily have a WR group that looks like the 5 mentioned above plus an FA and drafted WR, and Ford is still out there
It’s easier to get a WR up to speed, than OL, so OL is the bigger concern
If the OL is just average in 2022 the WRs we had in 2021 will be good enough, sure some will be gone, but think you get th point
