2022 Miami Dolphins Draft Picks

LB Channing Tindall – Georgia 6’2 -230 (RD3 pick#102)

With the Dolphins first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Dolphins selected at #102 (3rd RD) LB Channing Tindall. Tindall was an explosive player for a fine Georgia defensive squad, but not a primary player. He was never a starter, albeit on a team loaded with talent and the best defense in college football. None of this matters now, Tindall will have to earn playing time here for the Dolphins defense, which is also stocked with talent, but his quickness and explosive speed could get him some snaps quickly. When you watch Tindall’s highlight reel, his suddenness really shows up, he closes on the ballcarriers so quickly and takes a very quick route to make the stop. Elandon Roberts is a thumper, but he’s limited as far as running sideline to sideline to make tackles, and really can’t cover a running back or TE. This is where Tindall may get some opportunities. Roberts is excellent plugging holes and shooting a gap into the backfield, but in space, his speed is a negative. Tindall can blitz, cover and make tackles sideline to sideline, much like his ILB mate #55, Jerome Baker. I can see these 2 forming a nice inside duo.

WR Erik Ezukanma – Texas Tech 6’2 209 (RD4 pick#125)

The Dolphins second pick in the 2022 NFL Draft was surprisingly a WR, Erik Ezukanma from Texas Tech. Ezukanma was one of the most productive WR’s in Texas Tech history finishing with some heady stats, 138 receptions for 2165 yards and 15 TD’s. He’s known for excellent ball skills, not so unlike the receiver he may be replacing, DeVante Parker. He doesn’t have the speed DeVante had as a rookie, running a mediocre 4.55 40, but he’s known for making very difficult catches in traffic. Unfortunately, DeVante’s worst ability was availability so we can only hope Ezucanma can flourish here and stay healthy. (Pronounced Eh-zoo-comma)

EDGE Cameron Goode – California 6’3 237 (RD7 pick#224)

With their 3rd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, all the way in round 7, the Dolphins selected California OLB Cameron Goode. Goode is a little undersized for a 3-4 OLB so we’ll see if he can impress early on and somehow earn a roster spot. Goode was expected to go undrafted, but the Dolphins must have seen something in this kid they liked, so we’ll have to wait and see exactly what that is.

QB Skylar Thompson – Kansas State 6’2 219 (RD7 pick#247)

With the Dolphins final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Dolphins selected QB Skylar Thompson of Kansas St. Thompson’s senior season was his best, he played in parts of 5 seasons. He had his best TD:INT ratio with 12 TD’s and 4 INT’s. With Teddy Bridgewater firmly entrenched as the backup QB, Thompson can only hope to land on the practice squad while showing some kind of hope for the future.

In addition to our 4 draftees, the Dolphins signed a number of UDFA’s as well. Here is a list, although I can’t say for sure this is the most up to date list.

Miami Dolphins

Kellen Diesch, OL, Arizona State
ZaQuandre White, RB, South Carolina
Blaise Andries, OL, Minnesota
Kader Kohou, DB, Texas A&M Commerce
Verone McKliney III, CB, Oregon
Ty Clary, OL, Arkansas
Tommy Heatherly, P, FIU
Tanner Conner, WR, Idaho State
DeAndre Johnson, DE, Tennessee
Braylon Sanders, WR, Mississippi
Jordan Williams, DT, Virginia TEch
Elijah Hamilton, DB, Louisiana Tech
Ben Stille, DL, Nebraska

Besides our 4 draftees, and the undrafted free agent signings, I’d be remiss not to include the biggest piece of our draft haul, none other than #10 WR Tyreek Hill. His talent should take this offense to new heights, and make our young 3rd year QB’s job a lot easier. This offense will be much better than the 2021 version and Tua will be a big part of the success here. I look forward to watching this happen and very much look forward to shutting up his detractors. Hill, Waddle, Gesicki and our group of scatbacks should make it very interesting. It will be hard for any of our draft picks to make a huge impact in 2022, and I guess that’s a good thing. The roster is certainly better, as we added lots of talent in free agency and trades, and now tried to improve our depth with the draft, although we re-signed a lot of guys that will be the depth, but at least with our first pick Channing Tindall and our 2nd pick Erik Ezukanma, they bring something am little different to the table than we currently have.

Grier said in his post draft interview that they had a RB they were targeting, but he was drafted by someone else and said McDaniel fell out of his chair when it happened. I’m betting it was James Cook who went to Buffalo, but it could have been White or Spiller who went right before our second pick.

  2. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

It wasn’t the Z White people wanted, but it might be the Z White that we need. He looks like he’ll fit the system well. I like that he’s shifty, but he can also truck stick and stiff arm people.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Like his game….hit the hole hard and fast, stops on dime, shifty, good vision…nice

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

His highlights show what you listed and while I suppose he could be a good system fit, his game tape shows otherwise most of the time and his slow 4.63 40 time isn’t going to help him

  3. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

This ZWhite could make the team. He’s a good fit for our type offense.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Going more with just a camp body, he’ll have to be better, than what he showed at SC to make the team

WOHOO! Go Tanner Conner, WR, Idaho State

  6. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If I’m going to be perfectly honest, I feel like our draft was a bit of a letdown. I was looking for momentum, bringing in a player or players that could start or garner serious playing time. I know I’ll appreciate having all those picks next year, but I feel like we did all our heavy lifting in free agency and via trade and just basically went through the motions in the draft as if there was a moratorium issued on adding any further talent to the team. I think Tindall will play some, but that will also depend on the health of Roberts who tends to miss some time. Hard to imagine E-zoo getting lots of playing time this season, he’s got Hill, Waddle, Wilson, Williams, Bowden ahead of him. Goode seems mlike he might not even make the team and Thompson at best makes the PS.

  7. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Oh, and now our 2nd team ILB got Munsoned to 3rd team by adding Tindall. lol

  8. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Supposedly Diesch is one of the biggest surprises of 2022 at not getting drafted.
    Dubious distinction.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

      Overview
Diesch is highly athletic with the initial quickness and fluidity to stand out on reach blocks, second-level cut-offs and long pulls in space. He’s scheme-dependent, lacking strength to generate movement as a drive blocker. He lacks functional length and the anchor needed to keep NFL speed-to-power rushers from ruining his day. If he can add the necessary strength and mass, he’ll have a chance to find snaps in a heavily move-oriented offense.

Well, that’s what we’re running here, so if he can add the mass and strength, who knows? Short arms (32 1/4) though for such a big frame. I do remember Mark Dixon doing well for us with shorter arms so it can be done.

      • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

yeah McDaniel wants our OL, & the tackles esp., to pop the guy the play says to chip, then run go hit somebody else.
Instead of anchoring down and walling off the DL,
which is what necessitates long arms .

  9. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

ZQ White is from about 5 miles down the same road I live on.

  10. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

White was a top-150 overall recruit nationally coming out of North Fort Myers High School in Florida, where he played for former Florida and NFL running back Earnest Graham.

  11. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

What happened to Ariz. St. OL … West AND Diesch went undrafted while projected 3rd rd at latest? Maybe one guy dropping, but weird that two would drop like that.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Diesch was rated as a 4-5 RD pick on NFL.com

      • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

ok. Even there it still seems odd. I saw him in 120’s on 3 sites. I didn’t look at nfl.com.

At least we signed 3 udfa who were ‘locks’ to get drafted: Diesch, McKliney, and Sanders.

  12. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

ZQ White lives in Cape Coral,
but he played at North Fort Myers, (across the Caloosahatchie River)
    but he didn’t live there,
as all of this county is under federal busing mandates
dating back to racial policies of the 70s I think.
I was still living in SC then, but from what I understand, all school kids here get bused,
and parents pick the school they want their kid to go to,
but then there’s a lottery or something,
so almost no kid goes to the school in his neighborhood.

  13. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Anyway this guy ZQ is very tenacious, which is apparently something Grier is striving to stock up on, which is a really good idea. All of our draft picks love football and will do anything to get to play.
    … …
ZQ White refused to wait his turn to play and even switched to linebacker to get on the field.

  14. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

ZQ was also rated a round 5 or 6 at the latest by nfl.com

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

He signed with Florida State in 2017, redshirting that fall and then moving from running back to linebacker before the 2018 season, where he played as a reserve and on special teams in 11 games. White transferred to Iowa Western Community College to get on the field as a running back and wound up a first-team junior college All-American (137-876-6.4, 10 TDs rushing).

  15. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

ZQ then transferred to South Carolina in 2020, again showing versatility by suiting up on offense (16-59-3.7 rushing), defense (six tackles) and special teams (2-24-12.0 kick returns) for nine contests. White’s perseverance paid off in 2021. He started six of 12 games played (88-583-6.6, two TDs rushing; 19-202-10.6, three TDs receiving).
    … …
I like that he twice had seasons of rushing for 6+ yds per carry, the 2nd time against the SEC.

  16. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

“Tindall can blitz, cover and make tackles sideline to sideline, much like his ILB mate #55, Jerome Baker.” I was thinking the exact same thing. When they showed the clips of Tindall it was “That’s Baker.”

Lot more to playing LB than rapidly eating up space to the sideline before making a crunching hit. But not a bad start to it either.

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

well he’s both bigger and faster than Elandon, so I guess he’s an upgrade after he learns the NFL.
Good that he comes from the top team and top league in college, so he does not need to step up a level in competition.
He got 8 tackles against Alabama. Satan usually snuffs guys out before they can mess him up that badly.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Roberts has a bit more sand in his pants. Tindall is a bit slimmer with less muscle mass. He will probably add about 5-10 lbs though once he hits the weight room here.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      Tindall 4.47, Baker 4.53

  17. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Braylon Sanders could be our new Isaiah Ford, emergency WR lurking on PS until needed.

  18. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Greir said we’d have some camp competition for Dieter. UDFA doesn’t seem to really count. We gonna sign a vet Center?

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Something’s up because I don’t think you can trust a UDFA center to step right into being the go to guy if your starter goes down at such a pivotal position. pardon the pun

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

The only possible out on that is Williams has played center. If he’s good enough at it he could play if Dieter went down and Eich, Jackson or Kindley could play G.

  19. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

We also picked up the former running mate of Jevon Holland at Oregon. is his name McKinley?

  20. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    back to ZQ
I think he got ripped off by the mess in Tallahassee.
I think if he had gone to a more stable, better coached program, he could’ve shown some nice stats.

  21. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Someone on this blog ❤ Z-White

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

      smile
well he’s a boy from the hood near me who then went to my son’s school FSU and then transferred to a school where I went to grad school … South Carolina.
Plus I like tenacity and 6 yards per carry guys.

  22. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Tindall is young at 6’2 230.
Roberts is maxed out at 5’11 234.

  23. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

With the picks we had, without trading up it was going to be difficult to land top impact players. I like our first two picks, they have a chance to make an impact this year. Goode might be a developmental player and the same with Thompson – meaning PS.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’d keep Goode on the roster and work him in, it’s not an overly difficult position to learn, think he’d get poached on the PS

The more I watch Skylar, the more I like him, his low passing stats are weird though, they must’ve done a lot of running at KSU

Don’t think he would get poached though

He’s a gritty competitor, how he translates to the NFL IDK, but he did get drafted for a system fit

  24. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – Ford isn’t on the team anymore

  25. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Just to reiterate, unless Michael Deiter shows he’s worthy of starting C with this new group of coaches (not saying he isn’t), we probably have JC Tretter on speed-dial. That call will likely occur — if necessary — after mini-camp and before training camp.

As of right now, he has no competition… and I think Conner Williams is better suited to LG: he’d be a ‘break in case of emergency’ Center, IMO. But who knows? We’ll get the best 5 O-Linemen out there, one way or another.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Or someone already on the roster.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Thing is highly doubt Tretter will wait on us. But am sure there are some other vet guys out there who could at least be a back-up.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

JC Tretter is 31 years old. In my experience, these established, 30-something vets don’t want to go through the blase of the off-season. We’ve seen it many times in the past where these vets will wait until just before TC begins to sign with a team.

We’ll have to be quick to make the call should we need him so as to be in the front of said line.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I’m gonna assume he will sign at some point. Just don’t see what connects him to us or us to him other than he’s the best FA Center.

  26. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Fort Lauderdale Air Show today. Was out on my balcony and just had a flight of the Thunderbirds head right at me before turning off what seemed like a few hundred yards away.

    Man those guys fly tight.

  27. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Just read this: https://heavy.com/sports/baltimore-ravens/urged-to-sign-center-jc-tretter/#:~:text=Tretter%20is%20a%20Former%20Fourth-Round%20Pick%20of%20the,No.%20122%20overall%20in%20the%202013%20NFL%20Draft.

Welp, the Ravens signed Tyler Linderbaum in the 1st round. At least that’s one potential suitor for JC Tretter out of the mix.

  28. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

After the draft teams evaluate what they got and what they didn’t, so it’s possible we look to FA again for a center.

Deiter was our starting center last year but got hurt in game 3 and missed 9 games. But when he came back he was at center again. Just because he got hurt last year doesn’t mean it will happen again.

We also might be working other OL on the team at center. They’re going to find someone.

  29. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

    Joe Schad’s take on Center.
    ——————
The Dolphins want competition for Michael Deiter. Adding a veteran makes the most sense. J.C. Tretter of the Browns, 31, would be a home-run addition. Matt Paradis of the Panthers, 32, and Nick Martin of the Raiders, 28, are among the other free agent centers still available. It’s possible Miami could give guard/tackle Robert Jones a look at center. Grier must address this position before training camp. On Saturday, Grier said he wasn’t going to reach for a lineman and was unable to move up during the draft.

I think you just connected JC Tretter to us, in the event that Michael Deiter fails us in mini-camp. 😉

  31. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Going back to the pickup of Z-White. I wished I had checked him out. I knew he was the one who split time with RB Kevin Harris but never looked at him as Harris was the main guy most of the time and the bigger RB.

I don’t get the 40 time. Looks like he has better speed. For sure, though, dude has quickness and very good acceleration. That is what translates to his 6+ YPC not his top end speed. Good receiving back also.

    Dude is SLIPPERY!

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Going to be tough for that final RB spot. Drafting guys like this is how the 49er’s have been able to plug and play guys successfully in this system.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Could have sworn I checked Z-White out, but it was Kevin Harris, just like you! You aren’t alone, Bro!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s all about 40 times especially with RBs. They rarely run in a straight line. The one flaw I see in Z-White is sometimes he’s so anxious to get going he loses his footing. But he does play fast and aggressive.

  32. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

FOR THE RECORD, I am NOT saying to run out and sign JC Tretter right now. Rather, we have the $$$ to make it happen if need be… and Deiter hasn’t any competition for the starting Center position.

Michael Deiter is one of ‘MY GUYS’, who I successfully predicted we would draft. I’m rooting hard (if not harder more than most) for him to be an absolute success. We might not even need to sign Tretter if Deiter shows enough in mini-camp to this new coaching staff… maybe just a tier-B FA Center as a backup and competition.

  33. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

This is one of the UDFAs we signed.

    Ty Clary, offensive lineman, Arkansas

Clary has started in the majority of the Razorbacks’ games since stepping onto campus as a freshman in 2017, including seven starts this past season. He’s got experience playing both guard and center.

Clary is known as a smart offensive lineman who understands how to win with leverage in the running game.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Could be a guy who surprises us or PS/depth at least. I mentioned a while back, we have a couple returning backup OL who are not very athletic. More of a power blocker. They could be easily replaced by guys like Clary and Diesch.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Who knows, they may look at Diesch at center. Great mobility with short arms for a 6-6 guy. He was considered a 4th-5th rd prospect.

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

great, bring him along, but wow it would be really risky to start every offensive play with a guy who was not even good enough to get drafted.
We’re not talking about a 4-5th rounder here.
Arkansas is Big Time Football, though.
But I mean, if he has started a bunch of games for years in a very visible program like the SEC, maybe his tape sucks.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Deiter is the starter and I don’t think Clary will be the only one getting reps at center. I think we as fans tend to worry about this stuff too much. When Grier and McDaniel are studying the roster I would think they know what they have and don’t have.

  34. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – The depth at WR has improved significantly compared to last year. Last year was a bunch of ???, this year we have a bunch of answers. Last year we had uncertainty with Fuller, Parker and Albert Wilson. This year our top 3 are Hill, Waddle and C. Wilson. Then add in Preston Williams, Bowden Jr., Ezukanma and the other fringe WR’s/ST’ guys like Cracraft, Sherfield and Dedmon. If I were Ford, this isn’t the roster I’d want to try and get back on if I wanted playing time.

  35. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

  36. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I am not so down on this draft so much. I like the players we got. Only thing is going WR at 125 vs OL. I still think our WR was fine before that.

  37. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

One of the WR’s we picked up as an UDFA, Tanner Conner, is a big, fast WR with some serious hops. 6’3 226, 4.37 40, 39.5″ vertical. Problem is, he doesn’t run routes well and can’t catch, but maybe he’s a guy that just needs some work and some attention.

  38. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Steve’s right about one thing though,
Isaiah Ford is unsigned at this time.
He’s a street FA, and that is where he has often been brought back from to help us in a pinch.
I don’t know if he can’t go on the PS anymore or what.
Maybe he hides better on his sofa.
As long as he stays in shape …

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Isaiah Ford seems to be our new Ray Feinga: cut, signed, cut, signed, cut, signed, cut, signed, cut, signed, cut, signed, etc.

  39. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Tanner Connor is a track star winning the 110 hurdles and setting a conference record in the 60 hurdles. His father played in the NFL briefly at LB.
They say his press release is clunky and unsophisticated with stiff hands.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yeah, that what I meant when I said he doesn’t run routes well and can’t catch. Sometimes with good coaching you can find a gem like that and teach them how to do their craft well.

This coaching staff still is a question mark until they prove otherwise. The running back room is still a question mark. Armstead is a part time player so the o-line still has question marks. We should be improved on o-line even with partial Armstead and Williams, but we are far from a sure thing. There are lots of things that still need to fall in place for this team. We improved, but so did our competition.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

You’re stating the FACTS. And like Old Dolfan always states, “SHOW ME”.

And yes, I agree with you that we’ve improved. How much? We shall see…

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

On a personal level, I think we’ve become competitors. But again, we shall see…

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

M13, we were already knocking on the door as competitors and we definitely got better. No reason to think this team can’t be in the mix this year even though the AFC looks really good on paper. We’re one of them. I think people tend to focus on offense and forget that our defense brings a lot to the game. I expect them to be even better this year. Outside of injuries to key players, why wouldn’t they get better, this group has been built for 4 years and are mostly intact. That’s a big deal.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s like that for every team this time of year. Nothing is a sure thing. All you can do is add talented players and coach them up. I understand you mean this coaching staff assembled as is with us, but they have all proven themselves in their careers. It’s not all newbees. They all have a successful body of work.

      • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Right and this coaching staff as assembled with us is all that matters. When the offseason is here I don’t bury my head in the sand and say wild things of coulda and might and why not. I take an unbiased look at our team and weight the pros and cons. There’s lots to be hopeful about, but to say we only have to worry about a backup center isn’t accurate. When McDaniel called Tua on the play he said he’s going to have to earn it. That’s what he has to do with the fans as well.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay, not really sure what you mean. Of course there is a lot that has to play out on the field. When is that never the case? All we can do now is project like every other team. Even the favorites. Year to year it always changes. The Rams aren’t a lock to win anything this year. We’ve seen that before.

  53. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Tim,

I was merely agreeing with SB7 that there are questions that need to be answered: mainly, is this FINALLY the right HC hire and coaching staff?

We as fans (not me so much) almost always slobber over a new HC… it hasn’t worked out so well over the last two and half decades since Shula retired.

But I’m with you that we have talent on this roster to ABSOLUTELY be competitors for the 3rd straight season and even stronger this year. We’ll see what happens…

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

No worries. I just get this vibe of what if this or that doesn’t happen. Isn’t that the same for every team?

I’m not slobbering over anything. LOL

Just like the phrase “Show Me” is not coined for a select few. Isn’t that the case for every fan?

What else would it be? None of us decide anything. LOL

  54. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

To me Tindall and Ezukanma will make an impact right away even if not in a prominent role. Both will play STs and as position players when called on. We didn’t have the chance to add franchise type players with our draft, but I do think we added superior depth for now and maybe special down the road. Is that too positive? 😉

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Impact is a loose term. I’m not expecting a whole lot this season. I wouldn’t mind being surprised though

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Impact as in they’ll make some big plays, what’s a loose term is right away…week 1, first quarter, first half, but who cares just make an impact this year

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Meaning do anything to help the team win. Both guys have played a lot of STs. They both have skills for their positions. Do your job when called upon. They both bring upside in time. That’s what you get at #102 and #125. 🙂

  55. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Anyone thinking we didn’t do much with the draft, think about switching roles with Buffalo

Let’s say we got their draft and they got ours plus Tyreek

If that were the case we’d all be pissed

The moves we made were great this offseason, here’s to hoping Hill has the same effect Diggs did for Buffalo acouole of years ago

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The NFL world thinks that all Tyreek does is go deep. Tua can’t do what Mahomes does. Most of Hill’s play were YAC, not bombs. Lots of ignorance out there. Most teams throw 5-15 yards, not throwing it to the moon. LOL

  56. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

just continuing what you guys are saying… if Tindall helps neutralize QB scrambles by the Cows, then he was worth the pick … I mean that is what he’s for, isn’t it? (and Lamar and Kyler and even Aaron and Mahomes)
He’s in there to be not a liability in cover speed (as Elandon might be) but still able to runstuff, because he does bring the lumber, so offenses can’t exploit MLB as the weak link.
What if ILB is not the weakness on our defense?
    Then, what is?

  57. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Ez is not equal to deebo in raw speed, but he’s bigger and runs yac like Jarvis Landry – mean and angry.
I know McDaniel already has a bag of deebo plays, is anyone naive enough to think they picked another WR just to add depth to the room?
    I think not.
If Ez is able to give us 25% of the deebo yards, he’ll keep the LBs off our cheetah and penguin. If you add that to Waddle yards and Tyreek yards, that WR room is going to double our total offensive yards from last year.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Mike Shanahan system is about no static pocket. That’s what Mike McDaniel has learned under. That’s what he’s bringing here. Run the ball and move the pocket. It’s a stretch offense that sets up vertical. Get playmakers in space. The base of the offense is YAC you to death. 😉

Some food for thought is Terrell Davis was a 6th round pick with 4.6-4.7 speed and he became TD and a HOFer. Not saying we have that but that’s how this offense works. You never let the defense get on you and your OL on it’s heels all day.

I don’t think Jenkins is ahead of Sieler or even Butler, for example.

  60. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Naples, Grier said we’ll continue to look for talent to make our team better like we always do. I think he deserves a lot of credit. Our roster looks really good on paper and we’ve won 19 of the last 33 games. Our cap situation is good and we have two 1’s, a 2, two 3’s and a few later picks in 2023. He’s done a good management job. It’s about winning now. If you don’t do that none of the rest of it matters.

To me it’s on the coaches and players. You don’t make the trade we did for Tyreek because we’re looking to be ready to go in 2024. The same with Armstead. We can’t waste this defense how it’s constructed right now. That’s why we re-signed Ogbah. It’s time to compete.

Coach McD has a lot of pressure on him but I think he’s so much about winning, anything else isn’t cool.

He goofs around in press conferences and a lot of people like that about him. You may be surprised by this but I get tired of it. I heard when it comes to football he’s a different guy though, way more serious. He’s a young guy learning how to deal with the media. His quality is coaching, not answering questions all the time.

I dig the makeup of this team. We’re all looking for show me. 🙂

  64. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Kellen Diesch out of Arizona State was a legit surprise he did not get taken in the NFL Draft and was available to be signed as an undrafted free agent.

The Miami Dolphins did great by picking him up, while he is an older player being a sixth-year senior. His talent was seen on the tape during the 2021 season.

Multiple outlets had Diesch going in the third round. Last season he had three games where he graded 87.8 or higher against Stanford his grade was an insane 95.3.

While he has small arms for a tackle, the Miami Dolphins seem to look past his deficiencies and saw the great footwork he had sliding in pass protection.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Suppose he has a shot, but maybe PS until he gets up to speed, would like to hear the theory of why he went undrafted

Would rather we didn’t see any rookies starting game 1, we have good enough starters to let the rookies come along unforced

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

for sure the UDFA is there fore development and depth. I think the coaches already have an idea who the starters will be. I don’t think our guesses are are that far off with the following; (I don’t think they will move Hunt back to RT)

        LT: Terron Armstead
        LG: Connor Williams
        C: Michael Deiter
        RG: Robert Hunt
RT: Liam Eichenberg \ Austin Jackson

We do need to develop some GOOD backups because as you are aware, there are always injuries and your team is only as good as it’s depth.

The only backup for Deiter being an UDFA is a concern to me like many.

The idiot at Bleacher Report gives the Miami Dolphins’ new draft class a C-

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Simple minds (U75s) say, if A happens, then B must be true

Great minds say, if A happens, then there’s an endless possibility of outcomes

Rams made several trades like the Stafford one, Ramsey…seemed like every other yr they were trading their 1st rounder for a vet

Making 1 trade for Hill hardly screams we’re trying to emulate the Rams

  69. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    A) The Rams won the SB. How is acting like them a bad thing?
    B) what were the expectations for a draft with only 4 picks, half those in the 7th round, and none in the top 100?
    C) They filled a position of need with an exact scheme fit from a national champion who was the star of the National Title game and beat Satan who shockingly dropped right to us !!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Yes, key being dropped to us, we didn’t have to trade up

Josh Allen is in our division nitwit (U75), he’s killed us every game seemingly, so a fast ILB to help contain him with our 1st pick coming at 102 was a job well done, and we got a Deebo WR that can thrive in our O

What more could we have done without trading future picks?

The one thing that has been eating at me this whole offseason is that we stood pat on defense for the most part. The same defense that has failed to stop a Bills team from stomping them 7 games in a row.

What makes us competitive against them now that was missing before? Us keeping the ball longer on offense? That is a lot to hope for when they ran / passed through our defense like a hot knife through butter.

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

With today’s rules you can’t really stop Josh Allen

KC has been beating them with O, Tenn has beaten them the last 2 years once with O and once with D and a power running game keeping him off the field

Last year early we were right there with them in a scoreless game, then we lost the field position battle and our D couldn’t hold Allen off any longer with no help from the O

and yes, I have finally gotten a Twitter account, even at my advanced age.

  73. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    Rock
Actually, adding some speed and fresh legs and tackling power in the middle might give us a way to keep the non league MVP from beating us with his legs, which in his case is a big reason we have failed against them on Defense.

  74. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Also if we can score 3 or 4 times in the first half instead of 1 FG or less, which is all we’ve managed to do recently, that will definitely help our defense from getting fatigued and feeling unsupported.
When a defense knows the game is all on them with no chance of the offense winning it or even contributing much, then that pressure and lack of complimentary football takes its toll in the 4th Qtr.

McKinley was a player some draft analysts thought could have been taken well before the draft ended. When Day 3 began, he was a guy ESPN labeled as one of the 25 best available players. Over the course of the next four rounds, no one picked him. McKinley was a consensus All-American at Oregon and a Jim Thorpe Award finalist after leading the nation with six interceptions last season.
