Training Camp begins in 3 weeks – Dolphins prepare for winning season

This is different. Going into this 2022 NFL season and heading into training camp which finally has the players in pads, has a much different feel than in previous years. If we’re being honest with ourselves, the expectations are higher, as they should be. Chris Grier has upgraded the roster, especially on the offensive side, which was desperately needed. The offense was the weaker unit, and besides upgrading the offense, Grier managed to keep a pretty good defense intact. We also added a couple of pieces both in the draft and also in free agency this season that may pay dividends. Our first draft pick, in RD 3 was athletic ILB Channing Tindall. We already have veteran ILB Elandon Roberts who’s made plays for this defense and provides excellent run support. Where Tindall can be a difference maker is on passing downs in coverage and also as a blitzer. He can also be a sideline to sideline tackler, much like the guy right next to him at ILB, #55 Jerome Baker. We also added a nice veteran piece in OLB/DE Melvin Ingram. Ingram at 33 is well past his prime, and hasn’t played a full season since 2018, but he will be used sparingly which will make him more effective when he’s in there.

One of the biggest challenges this team faces is having a new Head Coach, Mike McDaniel implementing an entirely new system on offense, and getting it up to speed quickly. One thing McDaniel did well was bring in a lot of experience on his coaching staff. OC Frank Smith was the San Diego Chargers Running Game Coordinator. Darrell Bevell who is our QB Coach/Passing game Coordinator has been an NFL Offensive Coordinator since 2006 and has been interim Head Coach twice, once with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and once with the Detroit Lions. We have complete continuity on defense with Josh Boyer returning as Defensive Coordinator. We also have RB’s coach Eric Studesville returning now promoted to Associate HC and the much maligned OL Coach Lemuel JeanPierre. He will have a lot of help though with new OL Coach Matt Applebaum from Boston College. Wes Welker will be the WR Coach and in my opinion, it’s great to have a former player who really knows how to play the position, didn’t rely on talent alone, his dedication to running precise routes and understanding defenses was his biggest strength. There is no big ego here for McDaniel, he made assurances that he has capable people on his staff to get this team going in the right direction quickly.

So the summer heat is here, and in just a few weeks, the pads will come on, and at that point, we will have a glimpse of what this team looks like. July 30th begins training camp and then a couple of weeks later, August 13th is our first Preseason game, Saturday Night against the Buccaneers. Continuing the Pirate theme, we face off against the Las Vegas Raiders August 20th, and then the Preseason finale will be against the Philadelphia Eagles. Up until now, it’s been dreaming about what this offense might look like with all the firepower added, namely Tyreek Hill. Of course, Terron Armstead was just as important, maybe more important and Connor Williams as well. Still, it’s hard not to envision Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on the field at the same time with TE Mike Gesicki and slot receiver Cedrick Wilson. On the other hand, McDaniel was the run game coordinator in SF and he loves to run the ball. We have a varied stable of running backs, a lot of speed and receiving ability. Raheem Mostert, Chase Edmonds, and then we brought in Sony Michel who is a guy that can carry the rock and take a little more wear and tear. We also have Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed who have done some nice things here, as well as potential power guys, ZaQuandre White (UDFA ’22) and Gerrid Doaks (D 7th RD ’21). I’d put our receiving corps against any teams. If Tua gets the protection he needs, it’s going to be fun. As training camp gets here, we just have to hope everyone stays healthy. Practice hard, learn the new offense, and STAY HEALTHY!!!

Tim, if we can’t block then every defense is built to stop us. But guess what, we’re gonna be able to and it’s gonna be a bitch for opposing teams and then when they do get the ball they have to face our defense and good luck.
    I’m ready, let’s start tomorrow. 💪🐬🐆🐧❌☃️🐽😁

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Watch the 49ers blocking schemes both rush and pass. The new coaching staff believes in spreading defenders out. They don’t think being all boxed in makes much sense. Tua is going to see more passing lanes and options. It’s going to be a real NFL offense. The run game is going to be huge. No way we don’t run the ball under McDaniel, that’s his bread and butter.

Rock, OD mentioned that he and his wife were both having surgeries to hopefully receive relief from their pain. I can’t remember exactly, but I believe it’s over the next few months-long process.

I used his “show me” motto and was reminded of him. So, I put my thoughts out toward his healing. That was all.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Oh, good. I thought something might have happened.

I am putting out good energy towards them all the same.

Be well OD & Mrs. OD!

Oh, and Congratulations Stanger on driving again! I remember after I was electrocuted and I had to learn how to do everything all over again the feeling of relief and….can’t think of another word…POWER to control my own life again that came with being able to drive myself around again.

For me it was a little different and took a little longer because I was overwhelmed with sensory overload and was afraid I would fail and hurt someone somehow.

Read this in a Barry Jackson article. Sorry to you guys who can only get the games this way.

And as PFT’s Mike Florio noted earlier this year, the winning bidder likely would have the chance to sell satellite rights to consumers who don’t have the Internet service needed for reliable streaming. Unfortunately, there’s no indication that the NFL will begin permitting viewers to pay to receive only their favorite team’s games, as opposed to the entire package. CBS and Fox reportedly have a contractual guarantee that Sunday Ticket will cost no less than $300. During the 2021 season, DirecTV charged $300 for their base Sunday Ticket package and $400 for an advanced version. According to Front Office Sports, two million viewers paid for Sunday Ticket last year.

Good article that Barry Jackson linked to in his article.

One thing that bugs the shit out of me. The players, etc DO NOT BRING THEIR TALENT TO SOUTH BEACH! The HardRock is nowhere near South Beach. If the players are on SB they are up to no good. I wish the national media would stop that shit.

This is going to be an interesting one to follow. The news got it wrong though. He was not arrested in Perdido Key. He had a warrant for these charges and came to my office Saturday in Pensacola. We did the bond paperwork and I took him to the jail so he could turn himself in and post bond at the same time. We call it a “rapid intake”. No cuffs, no arresting officer or holding cells involved. Sheriff’s department does an e-sign on the warrant and sends to jail, NCIC checks, mug shot, fingerprints, post bond and you are in and out in 20 minutes.

His side of the story is that the “victim” is his wife’s or girlfriend’s sister (can’t remember which as I was going on 2 hours sleep from the night before). She had been flirting and hitting on him for a very long time. On vacation down here, they decided to go bar hoping in Pensacola due to rain at the beach. Wife/girlfriend didn’t want to go so he and the sister went. Said she was all over him all night. They went back to Perdido Key and the sister wanted to do it on the beach. Then when they got to where they were staying the sister got him to come in her room to do it again. That’s when the wife/girlfriend caught them next door. The sister freaked out and he was trying to keep her quiet. That’s where the alleged strangulation comes in. Now, the sister is claiming these charges. In addition to the mug shot and fingerprints, he also had to give a DNA sample.

He has no witnesses. There are only a few condos on the beach in that area. Maybe he will be lucky and there are some security cameras there and/or where they were staying. IF, his side of the story is true.

The work got to be drilling that technique. It’s a technique-driven position. You gotta constantly drill that technique and never be content.

Consistency, we’re in the business of results and performance. If you’re not performing, you’re not producing, they look elsewhere. So, we’re working that technique, and then you go out and you perform and with consistency and at a high level.

“Then, being unselfish. You make sure you’re doing everything you need to do to be your best self at practice and then again on Sunday. You’re being unselfish by sacrificing your time and energy, giving that, devoting that, to the team. Not playing for yourself. You’re playing within the scheme. If need to be there for the guard, I gotta be there for the guard.”

All it really means is they matchup good with the player making the comment, but shouldn’t be the end all, as other factors are important too

  26. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I predict a new trend in the NFL, teams in need of replacing their HC will follow our blueprint – new HC , that specializes on side of ball most needed, other side’s coordinator retained, add talent on side of the ball most in need

It will be hard to duplicate, because most teams replacing their HC won’t have a strong O or D unit

Most new HCs like to bring in their guys, which they still can/will, but it won’t be a major overhaul of players

Harbaugh kind of won in SF by just taking the players from the previous year and getting them to buy in, and didn’t rebud or retool, maybe he had no guys of his own, since he came from college

His philosophy, his approach, the way he handles himself is so different than what you the NFL coach do.’ But that’s what players love. They love that authenticity. A genuine guy that’s just willing to be himself. He can be self-deprecating, can laugh at himself. He doesn’t take himself too seriously, but they all know and respect that he’s the boss. He’s the head football coach. A very, very smart guy, really a cool guy to be around.”

Tua may be going into his 3rd season. Still, he was just beginning to get some capable weaponry when the Dolphins drafted Jaylen Waddle in the 1st round of 2021 and was supposed to be paired with free-agent acquisition Will Fuller. But Fuller was non-existent throughout the season due to injury and other issues.

Something we haven’t touched on, now that Flores is gone, is what the issue with Fuller was?

      Was it Flores related?

  50. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

TK, these vets don’t believe the MSM bashing Tua is getting….what the vets have seen so far with Tua is that he throws an accurate beautifully catchable ball, hardworker, and natural leader. Those are not the qualities of QB that sucks and the vets see that.

The refiners that purchased the SPR oil then turned around and sold 5M gallons to other countries rather than refine it to gas and sell it here.

    Mike,

Glad you’re loving The Blade Itself. Each book in the series gets better too; if you like the first, you’ll love the other two. I’d say The First Law trilogy is as perfect a series as I’ve ever read.

The story is excellent, the writing is very engaging and never bogs down, the characters are all interesting and likeable- except Ferro, I can’t stand her, lol. It’s gritty and brutal, but not overly grim or nihilistic (the biggest failure of GoT series IMO). For the most part, there are no simple good or bad guys; most of the main characters are wonderfully grey in these books, and everything is truly a matter of perspective.

Glokta is one of the most fun characters I’ve ever read. His inner monologue is often a fantastic counterpoint to his actions. He does truly terrible things and you still root for him the whole time (or at least I did). It’s one of the things Abercrombie does well with all his characters, their flaws and failures make them interesting.

Logen is amazing, as are all the Northmen.

I could go on and on about all the things I love about this series, lol.

    Cheers 🙂
