COULD, or SHOULD, Tedy Bridgewater be headed to Dallas to replace the injured Dak Prescott?? – – I make the case to consider doing just that up the page at my 1:13 AM post.

Let me know what you think.

    • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

I wouldn’t OD. Not because I love Teddy, but because he’s got more experience than Skylar. If Tua goes down, you’d like to have the smallest drop off possible and Teddy probably gives you that. He’s on a one year deal and I’m sure he won’t be here next year, but until then, unless Dallas backs up the Brinx trucks, I’d say keep him. I loved the little I saw of Skylar though. Mainly that he didn’t loom phased. Of course it was PS, but he looked like he belonged.

  2. ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

    From Poup:

Bill Belichick made it a point to say the Patriots got in Dolphins territory “six, seven times” Sunday. What he failed to mention was that outside of their TD drive and the first drive that ended with the Jevon Holland pick, the Pats took exactly ZERO snaps inside the Miami 40.

    Win for the Dolphins D.

  3. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Watching some of the other games yesterday, noticed how hot and cold some of these so called elite QBs are, what that leads to is getting beat in faces you shouldn’t

Winning 8 of 9 to close out last year, then seeing the new O this year, I’m more confident than ever about winning the games I think we should

Lots of bad things in week 1, by all teams, we won’t be seeing in the coming weeks, but the degree of difficulty these elite QBs live up to make their success not so easy to sustain

With the Fins I see a more even level of play with all 3 phases, that can be easily sustained, consistency reigns in the regular season, Titans also come to mind

In the playoffs the stars shine brightest, not sure how we’ll do there

    • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

I agree with this assessment. I’m inclined to think it is ‘easier’ to have balance with a QB still on a rookie contract. For a league with a cap, these QB salaries result in imbalances for those teams … so if QB is off, the whole team is off. Even Brady when in NE volunteered to keep his salary “in check” to make sure other parts of the team could improve.

  4. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    New additions report

Tyreek is the little engine that runs the ship

Edmonds is special with the ball in his hands, Mike White-ish, someone the cheats wish they still had

Mostert also magical needs more touches

Didn’t notice our OL newbies, probably a good thing

Ingram scored, but otherwise didn’t notice him

DBs didn’t see glaring holes, so they did the job based on overall D play

  5. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Howard again saves the day on opening drive, unlike anything Ramsey did on Thursday

  6. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Biggest concern is we still can’t pick up short yardage first downs on the ground, which stalled at least 2 drives

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Wilson didn’t show much, which is OK as long as Hill and Waddle are producing, but stepping out of bounds 2 yards short of a 1st down, when it seemed easily attainable, only to not convert a 1st on the series was disheartening

  7. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Ingram did have one other really good play where he whizzed over laterally with depth and slammed down a receiver for very little gain.

  8. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Ingold did get us a first on one 3rd and 2 I think it was.

He also caught a pass for a nice little gain.

  9. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

We did lose our back-up FB Cethan Carter to a head injury.

  10. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Overall expected maybe too much, but very pleased with the game, especially how pedestrian we made Jones, Bill and the cheats look

Parker is who we thought he was and we rightfully let him walk

  11. ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

    Interesting (to me at least)

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Interesting and important and shows we’re moving in the right direction, even though the naysayers will still make excuses

  12. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

We played without our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best CBs.
But Kohou and Elijah Campbell filled in nicely.

  13. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I thought after watching many other teams go through Game 1 trash of various types that our team did well considering how little our starters played in preseason.
KC looked sharp but their core has been together for years (plus Valdes) and is using the same verbiage and playbook they know so well.

  14. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I think (hope) that McDaniel and staff get those holes plugged on some of their blocking assignments. A teaching moment for our young OL learning a new system.

There were far too many free runners coming at Tua.

Tua also needs to tighten up that wild stuff he was doing while taking sacks, although several times he was able to turn a sack into an incompletion, which is a really good thing.

  15. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Happy with the win!! But like many, still trying to deal with the fact that our only touchdown by the offense was that 4th and 1 to Waddle. NE had a really good D last year … not sure if that level of play is still there and thus played a part in our 13 offensive points.

However, our defense ‘won’ this game. They could be on a trajectory toward ‘tier 1’.
Offense going forward is simple: run game. McDaniels loves the run game as seen in SF, and our passing game looked pretty darn good despite crappy run stats.

Is this still an O-line issue then? I would think running to the left side of the line is where the best looks will be (Eich at ND signaled where they were going to run because he lined up at LT or RT depending on where the road needed plowing).

I would really like to see this team get to 100yds rushing min each week! That could be enough ‘balance’ to get more snaps in the red zone.

  16. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I hope Austin Jackson is not out too long,
as we are thin at OT although Little did very well subbing.

I noticed they rested Armstead or he got nicked. Eich slid out to LT and Jones went in to LG.

Earlier when Little got nicked, Jones had gone in at RG and Hunt kicked out to RT.

That is very cool that Jones can go in at both OG spots in the same game, but it might’ve been the cause of some of the confusion in the blocking assignments.

  17. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Was hoping we’d play well, but not to blowout level, where over confidence would set in, in the following weeks, that’s one reason I liked the maintain, but don’t show too much in the second half

  18. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

We were playing the GOAT HC,
who is known for making halftime adjustments that swing games to his favor.

Which he did do to us, but winning the 2nd half 7-3 was not enough.

  19. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

In the past we’ve seen that before, what makes this time different was his 279 passing yards without having to do much in the 2nd half

  20. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I agree that we did not do a full reveal of the playbook.
    We won without needing to.
This is on the defensive side as well as offense.

We kept the amoeba under wraps.
I hope we use it some against Jackson,
because we totally confused him last year with it,
and I’d love to beat the dirty ravens again.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Key next week will again be the safety blitz we used last year to frustrate Jackson, but we will need to be ready with plan B, since they’ll prepare for the S blitz

  21. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    LOL Belicheat Bizzarro World

  22. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

We won without Hill scoring a TD.
We won without a rushing TD.
We won without scoring a TD in the 2nd half.
We won without needing a “winning FG”
    or even a “winning drive.”

    We can play better.
We did not get anything out of our TEs,
which is a McDaniel strong point
that I am sure he will work into the game plan.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The D made for an easy win

Won’t be so easy in Baltimore, one alarming thing for them might be how badly they were out gained

  23. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    About trading Teddy to Dallas.
That is a very real possibility.
If we could get a 2nd, I’d do it.

    Only trouble is,
if Tua gets hurt and Skylar goes in,
    who is now HIS backup?

Do we bring Streveler back? Yikes.

I think it’s more likely that Dallas goes after Jimmy G. though.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I don’t get the what if 1st string QB gets hurt who is going to back up the 2nd string talk

It’s been many years since the norm was to keep 3 QBs, we were sort of forced to this year, but you deal with injuries at QB, if and when they happen

  24. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    LOL

Baltimore lost their starting LT yesterday for the year ( Ju’Wuan James)

  26. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Watched some of the jets Ravens game yesterday, what I saw was a stiff aging Flacco who mainly couldn’t get out of his own way and threw lots of incomplete passes on 3rd down

Ravens really didn’t look that good, but enough to beat a mistake prone jets team

Jets just seemed like a team in chaos, some good individual plays, but no consistency

  27. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Trey Lance has some ability, but wow is he raw and inaccurate at times

  28. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Looking ahead to Ravens …. score vs Jets was about ‘finishing’ because Jets with Flacco moved the ball better than Ravens. Flacco threw for over 300 yds!… lends to a feeling that Fins could have a great day through the air.

Miami Dolphins: 10 observations from Week 1 vs. Patriots
    by Anthony Cardenas1 h ago
    « PREV 5 of 5
    Miami Dolphins
    Miami Dolphins+

    Miami Dolphins Week 1 Observations:
    9. Open field tackles sure are nice to see
Aside from a handful of anomalies, the Dolphins have generally been a poor tackling team in recent memory. So much so, in fact, that seeing opening field tackles for losses by Miami’s defense on Sunday almost felt foreign. One of the big stops came from Melvin Ingram, who stopped Rhamondre Stevenson with a textbook open field tackle for a loss of three yards. Another came from the aforementioned Kader Kohou.

    10. A performance like this won’t be enough against the next few opponents
There were some bright moments and a couple of highlight plays, but the Dolphins won’t be making any early-season noise if they continue to play the way that they did in Week 1. The next three opponents on the schedule should all put up a far better fight than the Patriots did, and unless Miami corrects some of the glaring mistakes from Week 1, they could very well be looking at a 1-3 start to the season.

This kind of stupid no shit sherlock BS would be like saying we’re down 14 pts 7 minutes left, if you don’t throw the ball you won’t have enough time to score twice

You play the game in front of you, not to prepare for your next opponent, it’s something I’d expect Omar to say

  31. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

His middle name really is McCorkle😝

Start with the Xavien Howard tip, and the Jevon Holland pick on the Patriots’ first drive of the game. Prior to that, New England was moving the ball well, dinking and dunking down the field. But, McCorkle Jones made the cardinal sin of testing Howard, and he paid dearly for that mistake.

  32. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

“the Big Running Back” threw some beautiful passes yesterday. I hope we can contain him and come away with a win next week too. They looked ‘good enough’ yesterday.

Ronnie Stanley is the starter, he was out week 1 with an ankle injury

    Reply

OH, I thought Stanley was still out from his ankle injury that cost him last season.

  34. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

On what fact or statistical basis does this nobody base his strong statement that the Dolphins have been a poor tackling team?

I’ve watched every minute for years, and I have criticisms of the Dolphins,
but “poor tackling” is not one except for some drag down stuff by Baker on some of the TE catches.

Brandon Jones and Jevon and Elandon and Phillips all hit hard, and our DL are strong inside.

  35. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

But he sucked! We all heard it.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Those numbers looked pretty good for a QB, that didn’t throw it over 25 yards

If you don’t want to take the deep throw risk, and you don’t have to, why do it?

Think it says more about the ineptitude of the cheats, than Tua

Guys with big arms feel they have to, like playing golf, your round wasn’t memorable, and at 18 you say fuck it I’m going to swing as hard as I can off the tee

  38. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

The next 3 opponents are indeed strong … the Bills are the Super Bowl favorites, the Bengals were in the Super Bowl last year, and the Ravens have a great coach and a RB who can throw the ball a long distance.

Agree, mentioned yesterday good O play doesn’t only come with points

The O made the D look good, by picking up those important first down, the D was never put in a bad situation

The D made the O look good by scoring and not making them have to score much

I’m going to invent a new term for this, I’m calling it complimentary football😜

Anyone know, if he tried to take away Hill?

I hope he did, and that’s why his ypr were somewhat low

  46. Wyoming85's avatar Wyoming85 says:

    I see at least 3 INT’s for our D

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It all depends on how much we force them to have to make a play, if we play complimentary football again I agree

Cheats for years got lots of TOs, because their O put so much pressure on their opponents O, they had to take chances

When your team sucks, like the 2022 Cheats, you aren’t putting any fear in your opponent😝

      • Wyoming85's avatar Wyoming85 says:

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

He surely made plays, I’d be ok going forward, if he just kept his covers receptions to a minimum

He’s been a great find, just in time

Guess MM wasn’t just blowing smoke, when he said he liked what he saw from our DBs

  50. Wyoming85's avatar Wyoming85 says:

Could be why Mike didn’t get much playing time?

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We’re going to need Gesicki at some point this year, for next year they’ll have to decide, if he’s worth 14m per year in this system

I’d say no and why a cheaper Tanner Conner option may be in play next year

We know we have lots of play makers, they all won’t be needed each week

Not calling you out on this by any means Naples, but as fan(atic)s, one thing we all do (and I self-analyse my fan opinions regularly to try to eliminate my homerism) is overlook that sometimes, the opposing team makes good plays. I was watching this game thinking I love how we were blitzing and getting free runners. Then I thought “why do they keep getting free runners @ Tua?” Sometimes it’s not a failure on team A, it’s just that team B called a really good play! I make this comment because I was guilty of exactly the same thing! 😂😉

As such, we will certainly be seeing more wrinkles in the playbook as it pertains to our opponents. Mike Gesicki, for example, was barely even taken for a test drive in the receiving game yesterday. Better believe we have PLANS to utilize him against certain teams.

Flacco is a stiff, very slow to react to the pressure

Don’t think the jets OL is very good either

Don’t get me wrong, the Ravens have a very good D, but let’s not call them monsters of midway, based on 1 game against jets

  75. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I hope belicheat coaches the cheats for another 30 years, he’s past his prime and hasn’t done anything without Brady

He’s also been a bad talent evaluator

    Coaches need great players

Anyone think Saban is a great coach? He’s just figured out a way of manipulating the talent, to go to Bama and I’d bet the early years there, that started the machine, weren’t on the level

  76. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Herald’s Daniel Oyefusi put out a “Who’s hot, who’s not” list based on yesterday. The three “hot” were Tyreek, Brandon Jones and Kohou. One of the “not hot” was….

“▪ Mike Gesicki: The fifth-year tight end’s role in McDaniel’s offense was questioned throughout the summer and in Week 1, his playing time was limited. He logged just 25 of 59 offensive snaps — his position mate Durham Smythe played 37 snaps, for context — and caught his sole target for one yard. With a bevy of skill-position players in the fold, Gesicki likely won’t see the volume of targets that came his way in his previous four seasons. But it was a quiet afternoon for him, nonetheless.”

I’m not concerned, not in the least. See my comment about Gesicki just up the board.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Not sure if I am concerned, but 25 of 59 snaps ain’t a lot. Matches up to my thought that he’ll be gone aftr this year. There’s an O that can use him a whole lot more than that.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Yes, it’ll come down to playing time vs salary, to be sure as it concerns Gesicki. We’ll see what happens… yesterday was but one (the first) game.

  77. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Holland doesn’t seem to get enough credit for the way he lays the wood on free runners, he’s a very good last line of defense

Don’t you love the way Armstead handled a pass rusher that the announcers were slobbering over earlier and was the opponent’s best EDGE rusher last year?

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

HELL YEAH!!! That, and I’m the one here who wanted to draft Armstead from the jump!!! LOVE that cat!!!

I only issue concern over Tua’s blindside (the RT).

I’m not worried about the offense. As Bedard pointed out (when he wasn’t trashing Miami) Miami has a rookie HC installing a new offense. It’s going to take a few games.

  81. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

In 8 career games against the Patsies*, Mike Gesicki has 12 receptions for 107 yards and 1 TD. That may explain why he wasn’t used much yesterday. Belicheat* certainly has Gesicki’s number and knows how to take him out of a game.

Coach says Austin Jackson toughed it out, stayed in uniform and could’ve gone back in in an emergency situation. But it’s serious enough that they’re going to get some more eyes on it.

Coach says theoretically Game 1 should be the worst game they play all year with the goal of improving ever week.

Definitely no celebrations or parties today. The team knows there were some plays to be made that we didn’t make, he says. The focus today was getting better.

Coach on the Ravens: That team has spawned a ton of ideas for me personally. In the run game they do an unbelievable job of forcing you to defend all gaps and be sound and then with the passing game to balance that. You have to account for all 11 players on every down.

You can’t take advantage of really good plays by some players unless everyone is in concert, Coach says. On some of those instances where guys did really good stuff there was a guy or two that were a hair off, he says. There was some of that in the pass game, too.

Coach on Tua: There were several times where Tua was covering for me because I was getting the play in late… He made plays in every quarter, which to me is playing the QB position in the NFL.

McD cracks me up. Will guarantee him there will be worse games than that 20-7 win over the Pats.

An underrated play was when Edmunds skip stepped past that tackler for more yards.

    — Holland on Kader Kohou

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

This Tyreek talking people up is contagious

Holland has now given him a reputation to have to live up to, we’ll never have to worry about Kohou’s work ethic now

  90. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

We have speed and talent all over the roster.

  91. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

On ESPN they’re calling the 4th and 7 call risky

It’s straight logic, benefit outweighs risk, not going for it would’ve been stupid

In gambling terms people would make that bet every time

  92. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It’s what I like about MM, he uses logic in his decisions, compared to Flores going for it near our 45 in OT against Jags

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

That 4th and 7 decision really makes sense

      Time was running out
Not a great place to punt or kick

      But almost all
Of the coaches we’ve had over the last decade probably wouldn’t have taken that chance

I was so happy when I saw the offense on the field and I was prepare bot to convert

It really would not have been devastating to turn the ball over on downs there

It’s a bigger risk to get the FG
And a punt probably just sets them less than 20 yards back

Under all the circumstances it really was the right call even if it fails

When the announcer started to question it I immediately was thinking he was an idiot.

It really isn’t that risky in the grand scheme of things

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The idiocy is not going for it, would’ve been logically retarded

Rock and I both posted go for it at the time, your logic Pig is in line with mine, even if we don’t make it, we still likely aren’t giving up points

  93. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I see eye to eye logically with MM, my prediction is we’re up 1 with < 5 minutes to play and we just scored a td, MM will go for 2 to make it a 2 score game

  94. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Donkies finally get a QB, now their D making Geno look like Russell Wilson

  95. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Denver with the butt fumble II

  96. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Wow is that some bad officiating. They measure, you can see green between the ball and the first down stick and the stick is leaning forward, then Seattle challenges, you can seen the grain lines on the field, it’s short and they still give it to Russ

  97. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Absolutely retarded, 55 seconds Denver runs it down to 20 seconds, calls timeout and attempts a 64 yard fg, instead of going for it on 4th and 5

  98. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Some bad losses and a tie for teams we wanted to lose
