2022 Season – Game 4 – Dolphins @Bengals

Our 3-0 Dolphins travel to Cincinnati to take on last year’s AFC Super Bowl team, currently 1-2 in the AFC North. The Bengals lost a tough opening game 23-20 to the Steelers, then lost to the Cowboys 20-17, and then defeated the NY Jets last week for their first W, 27-12. They lost their first 2 by just a FG, so despite the 2 losses, they were in each game. Our Dolphins have been in 2 crazy games so far, a 21 point comeback victory against the Ravens, and an exciting nail biter against the SB favorite Buffalo Bills, who had the ball on offense for over 40 minutes, yet somehow the Dolphins held the Bills to just 19 points. Quick note to the Dolphins detractors who say the Bills had 5 guys injured; the Dolphins defense won the game, none of your injuries were on offense. The Dolphins only had the ball 19 minutes and 20 seconds, so the defense wasn’t your problem, even down 4 or 5 starters. You just needed to actually watch the game to come to that conclusion. Your offense didn’t get it done in this game and that’s why you lost.

Back to the Dolphins. QB Tua Tagovailoa comes into this game with some back issues. It looks like he’s going to play, he did finish out the game against Buffalo although he did miss a series with back spasms. Hopefully he’s ready to go and able to play the entire game, because Teddy Bridgewater looked lost, slow, and unprepared when he relieved Tua last week. I won’t be surprised if the Dolphins carry 3 QB’s on their 46, but that leaves another unit short. My guess is they have Teddy better prepared. We have a lot of guys that are injured, and TE’s Cethan Carter and Hunter Long are both still OUT. LT Terron Armstead, QB Tua Tagovailoa, CB Xavien Howard, S Brandon Jones, DT Raekwon Davis, and WR’s Cedrick Wilson Jr. and Jaylen Waddle are all QUESTIONABLE. In this case, I’d say all of them give it a go, it’s a matter of for how long.

I wanted to express how pleased I was after seeing us knock off an excellent Buffalo Bills team last week. It was a crazy game, our defense was on the field most of the game, and in years past, that would have meant 40-3, like it’s been for the last 4 years when we couldn’t compete with the Bills. Somehow, our defense bent all day, but only broke twice. Some power rankings have us #3, some #1, but honestly, I couldn’t care less. Power rankings in Week 3 don’t mean squat. Actually, they never mean squat, it’s your record, and if you watch the games, you know what your team is about. This team seems so different under HC Mike McDaniel. There is an air of confidence, perhaps it comes from the coach’s confidence in his team and his players. They make the big plays, they make the big stops, they convert the big 3rd downs, they’re doing it all. A lot of the same guys are here, but they carry themselves differently. No question the talent upgrades make a huge difference, Tyreek Hill is wreaking havoc every game, and Terron Armstead is the best LT we’ve had here in a long time. DE/LB Melvin Ingram had a big game last week, giving us that wily veteran presence.

This could be a difficult game for us, coming into Cincy against last year’s AFC Champs. We’re beat up, and they need to turn things around. Cincy has 2 former Dolphins coaches from 2015, HC Zac Taylor who was our OC, and Lou Anarumo who was our DC. That was a different team then, so no advantage in that regard. I expect our team to compete, and keep this one close. As long as most of our guys stay healthy enough to play, it should be a competitive game, both teams facing the short week. Hoping we find a way to come out on top here and go to 4-0.

Nogtih all. Not our night after all. We’re toast

  53. Wyoming85 says:

I wish they would make that helping the Ball carrier illegal again!

    I hate that shit!!!!

  54. mf13ss says:

We needed a healthy X and Byron Jones for this given matchup against Cincy’s “3 Amigos”.

And we still can’t arrive at the QB with only 4 pass-rushers.

  55. CavalierKong says:

Nothing went our way and we were in it till the end.

  56. Wyoming85 says:

There goe the old ball game! 😦

  57. steveccnv says:

Betty is who we thought he wa

  58. CavalierKong says:

After that injury, I don’t know if I even hope Tua is back in 10 days. Let the kid heal. Teddy made some plays today, but I just wish they would let Skyler have a quarter and see what he does.

  59. manitobafinfan says:

Well hopefully Teddy can get us through the next game and Tua is GTG after 16 days off

  60. Tim Knight says:

Okay not a great night for a lot of reasons. 😦

  61. steveccnv says:

    Where’s Skylar

    • randydolfan1947 says:

STEVE; IT’s highly likely that Teddy starts the next game. But I’d split Teddy and Skylar’s practice time with the first team offense (which would be a clear sign to the team that Teddy does NOT have a lock on that job while Tua is recovering)!!

Considering who the Dolphins are playing in 10 days, there’s NO EXCUSE for not putting “The Wood” to our next opponent.

  62. mf13ss says:

    GRAND news on Tua!!!

  64. The Flying Pig says:

Great news. Honestly don’t care about the results of this game

  65. manitobafinfan says:

Still 1st place in division at weeks end

  66. steveccnv says:

    Why not put in skylar??

  67. randydolfan1947 says:

WELL, SO MUCH for the Teddy vs. Skylar contest for the starting QB job!!

  68. mf13ss says:

Look, I’m not taking a crap on Tua… he’s MY QB!!! LUV that dude as a man and as our QB!!! GO TUA!!!

However, it’s now the 3rd season in a row that he’s had a significant injury. Steve Ross will be looking to upgrade next year (as if he hasn’t been trying for some time)… and Ross done fucked up by costing us a 1st rounder next year.

    Just sayin’… SMMFH

  69. mf13ss says:

And now there’s “Tua-gate”, as the NFL is investigating us for if we broke concussion protocol when Matt Milano (FUCK HIM!) shoved him to his back last week.

I don’t think there’s anything to see here regarding “Tua-gate”, but these media pundits are RELENTLESS against us. Might cost us yet another draft pick next year. SMMFH

    • randydolfan1947 says:

MF13SS; STEVE ROSS WON’T BE DOING SHIT FOR THE DOLPHINS IN ANY CAPACITY FOR THE NEXT 11 months of his banishment. IF HE DOES, it will be “bye-bye Little Stevie” from the owner’s box on a permanent basis!

  70. mf13ss says:

    BRIGHT SIDE!!!

    We’re 3-1, baby!!!
Tua looks to be okay (in terms of a life-changing injury)!!!
Byron Jones comes back next week!!!

    Prayers for Tua’s continued recovery…
Prayers to hear from our pal Naples soon…

  71. CavalierKong says:

Before the season started, I really thought 2-2 was the ceiling for our first 4 games. I’m elated to be 3-1.

  72. randydolfan1947 says:

TOO LATE to stay up on a work night.
    The Old Dolfan is Out!

  73. mf13ss says:

Has ANYBODY an update on our pal Naples? Has he made contact with any of you?

    • randydolfan1947 says:

NOT that I know of. But nearly all the cell phone towers are damaged and the majority of those in the Naples-Ft. Myers area are without electricity. It may be SEVERAL more days before he can reach us.

  74. bailbondmike says:

We had the momentum on that drive Teddy threw the INT. He did well when he first came in but as the game went on, it looked like he was in over his head more than not.

Not sure if that was the right words but as a vet, he does not run the offense as smooth as Tua.

  75. bailbondmike says:

Looking at the game stats, the only disparity was our 2 turnovers. The Tua INT was like a punt but fuck that. It was on second down. The Teddy INT hurt the most though.

BTW, are we really 4 weeks into the season and our D has no INT’s. A few dropped ones that are now just PD’s.

Can’t believe we couldn’t get to Burrow but once.

  76. bailbondmike says:

    Gesicki, awe fuck. Never mind.

  77. son of a son of a shula says:

OD, Ross is only suspended until 10/17 it was Beal who got the full year.

  78. son of a son of a shula says:

Prayers for Tua so happy to hear he’ll travel with the team that’s very encouraging news on behalf of his health. I think that was a stinger and a concussion freaks you out.

  79. son of a son of a shula says:

McDaniel was a little off tonight, kind of out thunk himself idunno. It’s a long season and a good time for a few extra days off.

  80. uwantwat says:

What a disaster this effort was. Losing Tua our QB is hard to take, along with X. Just not meant to be our day. That was an illegible hit on Tua. The bloke just tossed him to the ground, to hurt him deliberately, while Tua was in a defenseless position. Not good! Hope he gets fined/suspended.

  81. bailbondmike says:

Special teams really hurt us again. Left side of line broke down that led to the blocked FG. He could have possibly made it and it would have been a 1 FG game with us driving before the Teddy INT. We were in FG range then and could have ran out some clock.

We were still in it in the 4th quarter without our starting QB, both starting CB’s and Waddle. Though not sure when Waddle went out but he wasn’t 100% and went down hill as the game went on.

The Jets will not be a pushover and we will be without Tua and could be without X and Waddle next game.

  82. bailbondmike says:

My Monday morning hangover is more about the injuries going forward. Byron Jones will be back but how much rust is on him?

  83. Ken says:

I didn’t expect to win this game after Sunday’s draining win but man the injury to Tua is what is devastating

    • Rhino says:

I also thought that this would be the toughest game of the opening 4 simply because of coming off an emotional game then going on the road already banged up.
I think if this was a Sunday game, it would have been a different story.

  84. ukfinfan says:

Still feel empty after last night.

Unfollowed Salguero after the POS posted this.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/Outkick/status/1575826952824365060

We need some time to heal and regroup. At least we have that and have got some real tough games behind us

  85. ukfinfan says:

    ⛄️ doing ⛄️ things

  86. Rhino says:

A lot of talking heads ASSUMING that Tua’s concussion last night was related to Bills game.
No one suggesting that they are TWO separate injuries (back and concussion).

I’ve had back problems before … when trying to stand up my leg on the side of the back issue gives out and I start to fall, having to grab on to something.

    • The Flying Pig says:

It’s so crazy that they can’t contemplate that these might be 2 different injuries

  87. Rhino says:

Tua injury aside … I bet everyone here (before the season started) would say that 3-1 after the opening 4 game gauntlet would be thrilling. Even really good teams lose games within the context of last night’s game.

We were in it after holding Cincy to the FG only down 5 … got the ball up field quickly to 29 yd line … then the INT (and an ugly INT).

Even a TD may have left enough time for Burrow to get into position for FG, …

… but, in context of the closest thing to the NBA’s version of a “scheduled loss” we got through 57 mins with a chance to win. Cincy’s last TD is a whatever…

I hope 10 days and ALL first team reps is enough for Teddy … although, like many of you I think Skylar MAKES more of those throws last night than Teddy did.

  88. Rhino says:

final comment: talking heads keep saying “the entire nation watching” …. um, not even the entire Dolphin fan base could watch, let alone the entire nation. smh

  89. bailbondmike says:

Rhino, I think it comes down to running this offense. Tua was doing very well to operate it. Teddy not so much. Skylar seemed to be really in tune with running the offense in PS. I know it will be different against #1’s though.

Teddy seems to know the playbook, but it is just the way he runs it. Example: the shovel pass for the TD. If he had stared Edmonds down anymore, he would have burned a hole through him. It was just fantastic call that totally caught Cincy off guard.

He lacks the anticipation that Tua has and think that had a good bit to do with him having to scramble a bit. If his first read is not there, it’s ad lib time. That’s just my impression.

  90. CavalierKong says:

I’m a Dolphins fan. I respect other opinions. Here is mine.

When Tua got injured against the Bills, I didn’t even question it was a head injury. To me tt obviously was even though when my wife and I talked about it I said it didn’t look like he hit his head that hard.

Tua came back and we were told it was a back injury. I was elated and could see how it might have been a back injury.

I believe McDaniel when he said he wouldn’t have put him back in the game if he thought he had a head injury (paraphrasing).

When Tua was down in the Bengals game, and it was clearly neurological, my first thought was “was I being a homer in believing McDaniel and the Dolphins last Sunday when nobody else did, and then this happened?”

I still don’t know the answer to that question…

    • The Flying Pig says:

I pretty much see things the same way

      Im not going to speculate

A lot of people on tv and social media are wildly speculating

Medical stuff is between doctor and patient

No one knows anything right now

    • bailbondmike says:

Yep, right with you. I do still believe McDaniel. He was medically cleared by team doctors and an independent neurologist. McDaniel was going by that, IMO.

My opinion, I think he was mildly concussed this past Sunday, but whatever screening they do must not have alerted the doctors.

Of course, the media is going to and already is blowing this up. All are not even going to mention he was cleared by an independent physician.

  91. Ken says:

No doctor is going to put his medical license on the line and clear someone from concussion protocol only to have him aggravate the condition with another hit. If the doctor last week did that his license will be in jeopardy and for that reason I believe there was no concussion

    • CavalierKong says:

If there were obvious and incontrovertible signs, sure, I would tend to agree, especially since there is an independent doc as part of the process.

But in a game worth billions of dollars, if Tua passes the tests, but it was still questionable, I can see anything happening.

Like BBM, I do believe McDaniel when he says he wouldn’t have sent him back in if he knew it was a head injury- he’s trusting the doctors. Then you look at Tomlin who wouldn’t let Ryan Clark play even though medical cleared him…

    • bailbondmike says:

I agree. Though, could have been so mild that it was not detectable through their screening process. Like hitting your head and seeing a flash of light then a few minutes later you are totally fine. Happened to me before.

  92. bailbondmike says:

Here talk that Tua will be out 4-6 weeks. Unfortunately, I think he needs to be.

  93. CavalierKong says:

I understand it’s entirely possible they were two different injuries. That was a violent whip into the ground last night- should have been the 2nd roughing call on that drive alone. I am just not so sure of myself as to say they weren’t related injuries.

I will say it seems whenever we play the Bengals, some dirty shit happens.

    • steveccnv says:

2 Grant fair catches and he gets blown up by same guy

I think it’s absolute bullshit, when players say they aren’t trying to hurt anyone

The shot Mostert took, when he was down and the Bengal picks him up and slams him, then he and coach have their hands in the air like, what was wrong with that

Why doesn’t the league look into their dirty play or Buffalo’s

  94. Wyoming85 says:

    Some good news

    Nick Hicks
    @PER4ORM
    Replying to
    @houtz
He is doing well. Negative X Rays. No internal bleeding. Will get MRI and second opinion but all things look good at the moment.

  95. Wyoming85 says:

    ok

  96. steveccnv says:

1+1 doesn’t always = 2, it is possible, that the 2 incidents aren’t related, its also possible the Sunday injury to back assisted in this injury, because Tua didn’t fight the sack at all due to his back

Hard to believe for most though, that they aren’t related and Sunday’s wasn’t head related

But it’s what the media does, we’ve seen it for a long time
