TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION
If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

    Two Clubs

Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs)
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference

Why bother going crazy over who holds the edge after 5 games? There’s 12 more games to go. The whole landscape can change by then. If both Tua and Teddy B are out for a while, we could start falling down some. Hope that’s not the case. As Logen Ninefingers says, “You have to be realistic”

Just looked up…Jets 3-2…overall…but only 1 win in division

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

We are 2-1 in the division and they are 1-0. Not sure which is technically better in the division race. But then 2nd versus 3rd in the division is just a pride thing isn’t it?

    Pride? Just trying to understand….

  7. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I will say too, I was watching the game with a friend and I made the comment, “I don’t even know what the rules are these days.”

How ca there be one set of rules for breaking the plane of the goal line, but a receiver catches the ball with two feet (presumably that breaks the plane) but th gound dislodges it and it’s incomplete…I’m so fucking confused….lol

  8. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

We were kicking the go ahead FG early in the 4th Quarter, right?
Then another series of mishaps occurred.
It seems like a terrible loss and it is, but only in certain ways.

  9. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Did you guys notice how different the offensive formations were today until we were playing catch-up. Whole O was in tight, even the wideouts.

Have to think they were protecting Skylar. Also have to think would have been a most different O with Tua in there.

  10. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Our QBs need to be protected! Lol…that’s how they succeed….

  13. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I had work all day today so I didn’t see the game (happy I didn’t). Saw our highlights lowlights, read the whole blog, and scouted the box score, but haven’t hit Twitter yet.

Holy fuck, Batman, our box score/team stats were very close to what the stej had. Absolutely unreal that it ended up being a blowout, even with our 2 turnovers.

As I’ve stated previously: Skylar Thompson is not yet a Jedi. He may have kicked ass in the preseason against 2s, 3s, and 4s, but he’s not yet ready for the BIG TIME. X missing today’s game had nothing to do with the final result, our entire Defense collapsed in the 4th quarter, albeit aided by a poor Offensive showing (minus Mostert).

These refs had it out for us, don’t like the new concussion rules (somebody thought Teddy looked concussed, yet he did not sustain a concussion), we were down to our 3rd string QB after our first Offense play, and I’m pretty bummed right now like the rest of y’all. *sigh* 😦

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Lol…and you didn’t even see the game

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Ah! But you guys DID (I trust you guys)! As I said, I read all of your comments, saw the final score and the box score, and saw the highlights.

That gives me a pretty good idea of what occurred today.

Reading this blog is more informative than most think.

  16. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Krishna,

Here’s something I can pick up on that nobody else stated during the live game (saw it on the highlights). Gesicki picked up a block on the Skyler sack/fumble. The announcer said “good block by Gesicki”, but the pass-rusher drove Gesicki back into Skyler (it was a BAD block!).

And I haven’t even watched the game yet and have yet to go on to Twitter.

Gesicki is in trouble with this team.

  17. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

M13, not sure if you have followed this show. I have not but might go back and watch from beginning. Seems more cinematic than when on regular TV. Also has most of original characters. Besides, I always thought Jeri Ryan was hot in her own unique way.

As a HUGE fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation, I’ve been tempted to watch it. However, I don’t subscribe to that streamer (Paramount+, is it?). I’ve heard nothing but VERY poor reviews regarding “Picard”, but I’ll eventually check it out.

Jeri Ryan is ALWAYS hot! She’s like a modern-day Yvonne Craig [RIP (Batgirl and the sexy green alien in the original Star Trek series)] when it comes to sci-fi, IMO.

    Thanks for sharing!

So with identical records, no matter who wins the division or conference, the first tie breaker is head to head….no matter what else. Thank you.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Yes, but head to head only counts, when it’s head to head, unless everyone tied has played each other

I don’t get the talk of head to head in division play early in the season

Yeah we have it on Buffalo, but we still would have to win in Buffalo for it to mean anything, same goes for the jets with us

  25. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I’m trying to figure out why those that saw the game and watched our QBs getting destroyed on the field yesterday aren’t placing blame on the OL…

The first play of the game on O, Bridgewater got blasted. The second play on O, Skylar got blasted….and it was like that almost all day…🤷‍♂️

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Armstead went out of this game pretty quick, he wasn’t right. He didn’t practice all week, as he’s been doing the whole season, but I guess his toe was especially bad this week. This day was fucked as far as sports are concerned, the Mets decided not to show up for the rubber game 3 of their playoff series, and the Dolphins lost to the Jets. That’s a bad day right there.

  26. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I know Mack Hollins wasn’t a great WR, but we miss him on ST’s. I think Fejedelem was another good STer, he’s injured.

  27. uwantwat's avatar uwantwat says:

Mike…those 2 are key STs as you said. I see where CF was activated of whatever list he was on so maybe this week to resume. MH is a big mistake letting him go. I don’t know who we have that can replace him. Any suggestions? Oh, MH is doing very nicely as a WR with the Raiders.

  28. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

We definitely need to stop giving up big chunks on kick and punt returns.

  29. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The one thing that stands out to me about our defense is the front 7 are just not getting to the QB. None of the DL, and none of the LB’s have been getting to the QB at all. You can understand that offenses have found ways to combat the zero blitzes, but why neither Ogbah, Wilkins, Davis, Phillips, Baker, and the exception of Ingram who has been the best of the bunch, can’t get pressure or hit or sack the QB, is frustrating. You figured those guys like Ogbah and Phillips would pick up where they left off and maybe do better. They’re basically invisible right now.

He will not be. They are going to continue to punish us for NOT BREAKING THE RULES but being the target of the MOB who want’s our blood.

  33. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Jest was a trap game in the classic sense.

They have lost to us so much recently that they had a lot of built up motivation.

    It was on the road.
    We had significant injuries.

I think of it as similar in all those ways to Buffalo losing to us earlier in the season.

They have a lot of new rookies that no one has much tape on.

The refs and league concussion guy in the booth had it in for us as payback for us using a concussed player to win a game.

    PLUS:

Saleh knows McDaniel’s ways better than anybody outside of SF.

There are still only 6 teams with a better W-L than we have.

  35. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Listening to that presser, the coaches seem somewhat disappointed at the lack of takeaways.

Also, sounds like Armstead will already be out for the next game.

  36. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Getting Armstead through a full season has always been the problem with him. When healthy he is a stud

  37. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Also trap game or not, injuries or not bottom line we needed to make more plays and commit fewer penalties. We could have won this game. No excuses

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Oh I did not mean those were excuses.

We have to get a better pass rush.
We have to scheme something to take the pressure off Hill and Waddle to do it all.
      We have to tackle better.
We have to stop making multiple errors in the ST game.

At least we are not the Panthers. They just fired their HC

“Receiver Tyreek Hill downplayed a foot injury sustained late in Sunday’s game. And his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said on his weekly WSVN-7 segment on Sunday night that “in all likelihood, he will be fine for the Vikings game.”

  42. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well that game sucked. Besides a poor performance the injuries are really starting to pile up. Then I got to see the Mets get knocked out of the playoffs. Real shitty sports weekend. But had a great time with some friends.

  43. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    Ok.
    so.
    Guys.
Did the Bills or Ravens or even patsies cave in their season after we beat them?
If we win out, we’ll be 15-2.
    I don’t remember.
Did anyone here pick us that high, preseason? Maybe Phel or Piggs.

I thought we would lose 6 games.

So the players and the coaches must dig down and
find ways to not lose like they did the last two games.

    So do we.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well even as much as everyone likes Skylar Thompson he’s still a 3rd string QB who showed he needs some seasoning so that could hurt us as long as he has to play. The injuries to some key players also doesn’t help. But we do have to battle through it if we want to have a good season.

Guess depends on how you look at. He looked liked a NFL QB. Not so bad for a number three.

I like a good number of Justin’s songs. Some I like are more because of what is in the video. This will probably fall in that category. Snoop didn’t seem to fit, not believable. Something like that.

Good for Justin though. He needed to up his clout. Seems he had hit a plateau for a couple years.

  53. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I cannot express enough how our weakness is defending outside runs. Yeah, there were a handful of times Breece Hall (and Michael Carter in the redzone) gouged us inside for a few positive yards, but not many times nor for extravagant yards.

Our Defense let us down yesterday, and X being out was not the reason. It’s not as though little Zach Wilson carved us up through the air. Subtract the fortunate Breece Hall reception for 79 yards (probably miscommunication on our D), and he was worse than PEDESTRIAN: 131 yards in 4 quarters.

Our pass-rush is absolutely horrific this year.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think the defense has been average at best most of the time and not what I expected as well. Tackling has been sub par.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Right on regarding our tackling… it’s extremely sub-par.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Too much grabby attempts and not enough hitting and wrapping up. We have missed ending the play for little gain all season and that has to be corrected.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And for the record, we outrushed the stej yesterday 137-135.

Again, look at the box score… it was damn near equal in every facet.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

That should NEVER equal a 40-17 blowout.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We made a lot of mistakes and were bad in situational football. At one point I thought we were getting settled in and taking over the game and then the missed FG to go up 20-19 gave the momentum back to the Jets and we fell apart.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

YUP! Even Coach McDaniel noted in his presser today that THAT was when everything went to hell… after the missed FG. It was as though the whole team decided to take the rest of the day off.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I didn’t know McDaniel said that but that’s the kind of thing he’s been preaching since he came here; I want to see how the team deals with adversity. They didn’t do that well in this game.

I’ll also give credit to the Jets, they played well and they’re very young. We didn’t match their intensity.

  54. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

The safety was a farce as was the “observed wobble” that gave them the first two points. The next three points was directly given to them by the referees with back-to-back facemask penalties. In The replay of the second facemask penalty you can see a Jets player turning a dolphins player helmet sideways so he’s looking out the ear hole but they called a penalty on us for a nonexistent facemask. There were two flagrant blocks in the back during one of their kick returns that were not called. This game was stolen from the Dolphins by the league. Period.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It did have a feel of a home field advantage but I don’t think we played very well with the exception of a few players here and there.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

The face mask on Ingram was legit. The one on Davis was kind of ticky tack but his hand was up around the helmet. Both calls are not the reason why we lost

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I agree and neither Davis or Ingram had to go to the helmet or face mask on those plays. Those are the kind of mistakes that lead to points they might not have gotten.

  55. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I thought if our D and STs played a good game, we would have won. Neither played well, imo….

  56. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Breece Hall looks the part. That guy could become one of the top bell cow RBs in the league sooner than later. That was the player that worried me the most that the Jets landed in the draft.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And as it has turned out so far, Teddy was NOT concussed. The league decided to shaft us.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

The new rules have given the NFL more power to rig games.

Say a player like A-Rod gets sacked, but it was a foot injury. He stumbles due to the injury, now he gets ruled out for the rest of the game because maybe he sustained a concussion when his helmet hit the ground (happens on ALL sacks).

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Now upon a sack, QBs are going to be more prone to NOT allow their helmet to hit the ground… which makes them even MORE susceptible to major injury when somebody hits them.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’ve thought about that but once they’re forced to be consistent with the new rule they’re going to find themselves in trouble taking top players out of the game. They’re already under a microscope. Won’t be easy to do.

DID ANY OF YOU see the brief analysis the Sunday Night crew did on the Bengals COMPLETELY CHANGING their O-Line during the off-season?? Burrow suffered more sacks last season than any other NFL QB . –Somehow,Cincy STILL GOT TO THE SUPER BOWL and NEARLY WON IT!! But, unlike Miami, the Bengals went right to work and replaced their entire O-Line with, I believe, 4 free agents and 1 draft choice. The difference has been noticeable. Fewer sacks, better running game, and Burrow’s still standing upright with NO CONCUSSIONS!!!
    ——————————-
GOTTA WONDER IF ANYONE from Miami’s Front Office even watched this game. Sure as HELL, they’ll do nothing meaningful this week, despite the fact that, as usual, Armstead is injured and likely WON’T be ready for the Vikings. AFTER GETTING QB#1 and QB#2 concussed, you’d think our head coach would be screaming to the FO to “Get me some help in the O-LINE!!!”

Joe Burrow is tied for 4th most sacked at 18 where Tua has been sacked 6 times tied at 27th least sacked. I know he’s missed 1.5 games but your conclusion on the Bengals OL is not accurate. None of what they did has been very good. They’re also 2-3.

      • randydolfan1947's avatar randydolfan1947 says:

TIM–it wasn’t my conclusion. It was the network’s. I’d trade Cicy’s front line for ours in a heart beat. AND THAT’s MY CONCLUSION!! IF YOU THINK our line is a lot better than Cincy’s you certainly are welcome to your opinion.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

What networks? So you don’t believe in numbers? It’s not your conclusion but then it is your conclusion?

It’s not my opinion, those are the facts. Your assessment of the Cincy OL and Burrow are inaccurate. They’re struggling.

You can’t take one or another questionable play that hurt Tua and blame the FO and the entire OL. You don’t like Ross and Grier and that’s apparent. Tua made a mistake with the hit he took in Cincy. He was in the clear on a bootleg and readjusted back to the pocket and he got caught and thrown down hard. The OL was not to blame on that play or being pushed down against the Bills on a roughing the passer call.

Remember when Brandon Jones sacked lil’ Zach Wilson yesterday? NOTHING their O-Line could do would have stopped it.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Now do NOT get me wrong! I think our O-Line should be far better than it currently is, but it’s already MUCH better than last year. Allow them to gel and I think it’s going to be manageable.

YES, you and I definitely thought Terron Armstead’s chronic injuries were a mistake for the $$$ we spent on him.

  62. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Thinking about PFF stats for rushing the passer

They might be better off just watching a game and using their perception

For example, yesterday anyone watching Parsons can see he’s a great pass rusher

  63. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

This game is like the Pro Bowl tackling, it’s already cost KC. 7 pts

On the last drive on 3rd down the catch on Raiders side of field was well short, instead of just tackling him, they pushy footed around, giving time for the OL to push him 5 yards forward, .asking it 4th and 1, which went 58 yard td

Both sacks in game neither team took the QB to ground

  64. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I posted a Fins video a couple of weeks ago, someone responded, what is he like 10 years old

IDK, but he could be the Chiefs baby faced kicker

  65. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

Do you think with the new concussion standards/protocol, do you think teams will start having 3 QBs active for games?

  66. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    Thinking like belicheat

On a kickoff, the deep man puts his arms out to side to indicate a fair catch, but the back judge doesn’t blow his whistle until the ball hits the ground

So what if you were kicking off against the wind and kicked it high and deep, the wind hangs the ball up and your coverage man catches it? Is it a TD?

  67. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Was a bit noisy in the house.. KC got hosed on that NON Turnover .. did they also get flagged for roughing passer on the play ??

  68. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    Yep they’re reading us

I’ve been saying at the end of games up 7 you should always go for 2, to go up 2 scores

KC didn’t get it, but they did it right

  69. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Now Raiders 2 pt try was asinine, because if you make it, now you’ve put KC in 4 down territory for the entire drive, if you miss, probably going to lose

The Dolphins are 23rd in the NFL in team sacks per game, 30th in QB pressure percentage and 29th in QB knockdowns. How is that possible with Phillips, Ingram, Van Ginkel, Ogbah, Wilkins, Sieler, Baker, Holland, Jones?

Miami is blitzing 21.4 percent of downs, 13th in the NFL. Last year it was 39.6 percent, 2nd in the NFL. They’re trying to protect CBs with injuries to Byron and X.

He puts it all down to injuries – maybe there’s a sprinkling of Flores in there too? One thing’s for sure, this D philosophy works with the right personnel, but looks less good with back-ups in.

The way Tua was slammed should have been another. He could have just pulled him down, but he used everything he had to whip he around and drive him into the ground. You could tell that dude wanted to purposely hurt Tua.

  75. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

With this new protocol, 5 players were put on concussion protocol in Sunday’s games. That’s what I found so far. There may have been more.

  76. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Our defense has given up 131 points in 5 games. That is worse than 6 out of the 8 last place teams in every division.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Last year, I would be like, OK they are just on the field to long. Can’t use that this year. Our offense has been moving the ball and scoring points. Offense is currently tied for 12th in scoring offense.

The NFL has changed over the years, back in the 70s, when I first started watching the advantages were done at a team/player level, for example whatever it was the Steelers were doing with steroids

Today the advantages they give teams seem to come from a greed/money standpoint

We see it in scheduling, and calls on the field at just the right time as needed, we see it in suspensions

The last 2 SB winners were hand picked to be in the game, because of tv ratings that accursed during the season and the fact that the game was in their stadium

Many people believe the networks have a say in who they want to win certain games

Hard to believe calls like our Betty safety play are totally on the level, let alone the non PI called against the Rams vs Saints a few years back, that prompted the PI instant replay review rule change

The NFL does what they do to maximize revenue

  81. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

  83. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Rankings on O or D can be misleading, in our case the yards we’ve given up has been influenced by Jones and X injuries, tough schedule to start, Tua and Betty protocols

Sure we’ve sucked on D in yardage, but have come up big at crucial times first 3 games

Once Jones, X and Tua get back on the field I expect we’ll see our real D, a D good enough to win when the O does their thing, like we saw the first 3 weeks

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t exactly mad that Bridgewater got taken out. I really wanted to see Skyler.

Obviously I regret it after the fact. And him being removed by a spotter based on that video is pretty unreal.

  89. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I am still enraged by the “UNC” calling Teddy a no go after witnessing Ataxia. There was no stumble there was no Ataxia. There was a Jets fan pretending to be a Doctor watching TV like the rest of us that unilaterally decided to put Teddy in the protocol for a FUCKING WEEK when it was a BS call to begin with.

I am willing to bet$1000 right now that UNC has a NY accent!

  90. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Now there is going to have to be training for player on how NOT to react after a tackle.

    1. Do not adjust your facemask even if your helmet slipped and is sitting uncomfortably. Leave it until you are in the huddle.
    2. Do NOT shake your head or touch your head. Do not wipe dirt out of your eyes.
    3. Do NOT get up from the ground until / unless you are stable (can breath, if the wind got knocked out, etc)

Otherwise YOU WILL BE SITTING FOR A WEEK.

Meanwhile, the league is treating this like a QB rule. it’s NOT. Just this weekend I saw 5-6 guys that should have been pulled from the game if the same rules were applied to them as was apply to Teddy. INCLUDING the Milf Hunter on the play where he dove for the TD that wasn’t a TD. (Fumbled before breaking the plane)

Krishna? — Ken told me you were asking about one some days ago.

  92. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

How about this defensive holding on a fg attempt by Raiders #51…

This gave the Chiefs a 1st down and allowed them to score a TD that ended up being the game winner.

That is after the ridiculous roughing call called against the Chiefs earlier in the game, where the defender strip sacked the QB and has the ball, then gets called for roughing the passer, even though the defender was technically the guy getting tackled since he had possession.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I mentioned earlier the FG call and a chop block called on Raiders

NFL manipulates games, that’s a fact jack

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I didn’t watch the game last night, that’s a pretty crazy call. Defensive holding on a fg hasn’t been called since 2015, and THIS is when they call it?

Pretty hard to argue it isn’t manipulation…

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I stopped watching cheats games, especially SBs, because fan interest = that team getting calls

When Dallas was America’s team they got Pat’s kind of calls

  93. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

If money isn’t directly changing hands on a game the NFL is allowed legally to manipulate them

The networks paying 10B for the rights to broadcast games, go to the league and say we’d like this team to advance, the NFL does what they can to accommodate them

Jags vs Cheats AFC Championship, you think the PIs cheats got before the half leading to TDs was on the level, or Rams vs Saints NFC Championship game?

  94. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Kong, yeah, Teddy is in the protocol. He cannot practice until at least Thursday even though he was not diagnosed with a concussion. The NFL just gave themselves another tool to manipulate outcomes.

They were all very upset with the Dolphins doing well the first quarter of the year. It was “unnatural” so they have fixed it.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m stunned. Exactly like you said above, one guy, who is not a doctor, can unilaterally take a team’s most important player out of a whole game and mess with his practice the whole next week based on absolutely nothing.

      un-effing-believable

  95. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

This new concussion protocol already has a lot of flaws. It doesn’t seem to be consistent.

  98. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Why does it have to be a spotter making this call, some rando? Why not keep the change about gross motor instability, and if either the team doctor or the UNC review the video and make the call there was ataxia, then the player is out for the game and goes into concussion protocol?

It’s not that fucking hard. Why does the NFL always have to do shit the wrong way?
