Wow
The catch of gesickis career
Never caught it. Sucks
Pass was thrown just a little behind him
Fuck
Well you go for it there Bc you can shit them down
Need a defensive stop, then score a TD and Kong gets the score right at 24-23
This is a good time to give us back the be calls from earlier
Our D needs to step up and close this game.
TURN OV ER
TURN OV ER
TURN OV ER!!!!
LET’S GO DEFENSE
again
Seriously….Wilkins now…
He’s back in.
This is a really disappointing game . It was there for us
They are perfectly designed to run out the clock. We are gassed
Well we can’t afford that
That’s ball game
I didn’t see a contender today
Nope. They showed us. That they’re not ready yet
We went into SF the best D in the game and it is a 1 score game late in the game
Please. It was a 3rd string QB. Spin it however you want, this was a bad loss.
I disagree Cav. SF is area. a really good with tons of weapons. We left opportunities on the field but we competed
If we can’t stop a 3rd string QB that got thrust into the game without the majority of practice all week, we’re not going to stop Mahomes, Allen, or Burrows when it matters.
If this game played out the same way with Jimmy G, I’d feel a lot better. To lose this way to a 7th string QB rookie who kept making plays when it counted, pathetic.
game
Disappointing but we fought I am not as discouraged as others on here
My biggest disappointment is we list the LOS on both sides. If Armstead had not been a scratch we may just have had enough to get over the line. We also need to see bounce back from this
Lost
We didn’t lose the line on D! We lost the edge being to aggressive!
Agreed.
That holds might be a miracle for us
Fuck!
I can’t believe we lost such a big game to a 3rd string QB
That was a heck of a kick
I see a flawed contender. We need to do more on offense against the better teams
Make that very flawed
fucking figures
20 yards to spare
and the game turns into a joke
That’s just awesome
I hate garbage TDs
Fitting!!!!!!!
Yep. Getting all the 💩 out at once
Nogtih all
Two Dolphins closer to that ball, but the Niner runs between them and gets it. Story of this game. Niners made the plays while we were dropping balls and not making plays that were there to be had.
I still can’t believe that 4th down play we had them stopped, but they get a 2nd push, and Holland is back there celebrating instead of coming up and assisting in the tackle.
Or how about the TD at the end of the half where they are on the 3 yard line and our coverage guy is 8 yards deep in the endzone.
Tua lost that game. He was shit 90% of the first half. Missed at least 7 wide open receivers. We should have went in with a 7-10 point halftime lead if he had connected on passes he should have.
Three sacks for Bosa
Alright I am out
Yikes. Shouldn’t have ordered the fish
Fitting end to the game
Nice icing on the cake.
Thank God it’s kneel down time
Bengals are going to beat KC.
Ball game. Bengals win.
Missed a golden opportunity
Let’s not forget our D couldn’t even stop a third string QB
This game won’t matter if we win the next 2
We had about 3 or 4 calls go against us in big moments, but we absolutely didn’t deserve to win this game. Our offense was terrible and our D was pretty disappointing. This game should have been over when we were up 7-3 and they had to bring in a 3rd string QB.
Good thing is it’s only one game, and we have a chance to put this behind us with a huge game against the Chargers next Sunday. Win that one, and this one gets forgotten pretty quick.
And if we were going to lose a game, this is the best omne to lose being out of conference.
We can’t afford guys like Armstead not playing. It’s a different team with him in there.
Yep. I said that last Sunday
FUCK! 😡
^
At least Chargers are losing to the Raiders
Tua definitely shit the bed. He had an uncharacteristically poor game and you can say he was too amped, you could say he choked up, either way he played his worst game under the microscope of a big game scenario. It will be crucial that he plays much better next week in another big conference game with huge playoff implications
It’s one game bro. We’re 8-4 and still a wildcard.
It’s one game, yes. If he comes back next week and plays lights out then you chalk it up to one bad game. If he falters again next week then we probably are done and not ready for prime time
Agree Tim on Armstead, but this loss had not much to do with that at all. This loss was all on Tua. He was not pressured that much early when he was missing all those passes. Longer passes down the field that would have gotten chunk yards. We should have gotten in FG range at least 3 more times in that first half had he connected on passes he should have.
^
Tackle and TE must be priorities in our ’23 Draft.
Nick Bosa kicked our fucking balls in.
Chargers loss is huge.
It means if we beat the Chargers and Patriots and we’re guaranteed a playoff spot.
Yup!
It’s one game bro. We’re 8-4 and still a wildcard.
—————–
I would much rather be 9-3 and #1 in AFC and rooting for the Jets to beat Buffalo next week.
Now, we are in must win territory and need Bills to beat Jets to keep them off our ass.
TOP – 41 minutes for 49er’s and 19 minutes for Dolphins.
Hope the Defense can recover for next weekend road game and road game after that.
We passed 34 times and ran the ball 8 times.
CHRISTIAN WILKINS lead the team with 12 freaking tackles (8 solo, 4 asst) with 1 TFL and a FF.
Baker also had 12 tackles but 6 solo, and a .5 sack.
Wilkins is playing more like an MVP than Tua.
Sanders was perfect for the second game in a row. 🙂
I know he has a bothersome knee, but I wish we would see more from Reakwon Davis. He seems to start every game then disappear and it’s John Jenkins and Zimmer time the rest of the way. Frustrating.
Blame who you want and yes Tua struggled today. He also threw some elite passes along the way making this game close late 4th quarter. The 49ers are the #1 defense in the league. We had no running game and the coaches knew we wouldn’t run well and put Tua into the teeth of the 49ers defense. That was our best way to win. Sometimes you tip your hat. Onto the next game. Prime Time!
I will agree with you. But we did only try to run 8 times gaining 33 yards (4.1 per carry). I think we should have tried to run more in the first half.
Crazy, the Bucs can lose Monday night and go to 5-7 and still be in the lead in their division. lol
When the players look at game tape I bet Tua is the first one to be critical about himself. It’s like a pitcher who is dominant but on this day he was wild, walked more than usual and gave up a 3-run homer. That doesn’t define who they are. It’s one game.
Right
Guys, I’m going through the season stats like nobody’s biz, and there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason as to why we win or lose this season. For example: TOP doesn’t dictate a win or loss for us, nor does winning the turnover battle, nor does 3rd down success rate, nor yielding 100-yard rushers or receivers, nor does etc, etc, etc.
We have a very weird team that is just totally unpredictable, and in many ways, that’s a very good thing (game-changing/planning, especially after Halftime).
It wasn’t Tua’s best day today, but he’ll grow from this experience and get better from it, as he has everything else thrown his way. He did come out hot in the 4th quarter and proved he wasn’t totally shaken.
Team health at this point is our largest problem (IMO, both sides of the ball), and it didn’t help that we didn’t have Terron today. It also didn’t help that Waddle got dinged up early in the game, only to get his first reception late in the 3rd quarter.
And can we ALL imagine if we had a healthy Byron Jones, Nik Needham, Brandon Jones, Ogbah, and Flowers available for our Defense? We’d be a top-5 Defensive unit for sure.
At the end of the day, I think the master (Kyle Shanahan) taught the student (Mike McDaniel) a lesson: “Don’t get too cocky, kid!” 😉
Well played game until garbage time late in the game.
Big brother beat little brother, lol. It’s one game and not AFC, still 6-2 conference.
Tim, I am just trying to get my bitching out now, so the Monday morning hangover isn’t so bad. LOL
I think that’s fair! 😀
Who is this Tim you speak of?
Jimmy G is out for the season with a broken foot.
Schefter…
That’s a big blow.
I’m not into the “what ifs” of a game….we lost.
Tua played like shit…I didn’t even recognize him.. And, the SF defense had nothing to do with it…the plays were perfect but not executed by the QB….these are facts. He missed every way possible…a totally wtf game for Tua! Lol…
And, our D let Mr. Irrelevant be relevant….wtf?
I’m with CK….this should have been a statement game…I hope it wasn’t….
Show me!
The other team matters. Tua had a clunker is it the end of the world? Lots of plays could have changed this game. It’s one loss. Geez guys. This was not a playoff game. We’re 8-4, relax. 🙂
Never said it was the end of world, but it was an important game.
Not sure why you’re taking a position of minimizing a loss….it’s a loss…lol.
I talked about this game as a tough game all week. Are we at the point where we can never lose or we suck?
Dude, somehow you keep missing the point.
Making excuses for Tua’s poor performance is just making excuses….it wasn’t the SF defense, it wasn’t the master besting the student, it wasn’t the Oline, it wasn’t the playcalling….lmao…
SF did not look like a playoff team and we we were worse….
….fairy dust….lol
I don’t think a master taught a student anything…I think the student brought balls and game plan that should have won…
….if executed.
Sorry Thy, don’t know who this Tim guy is either.
Some of y’all are WAY too hard on Tua for his bad day, but who is still the #1 rated QB in the NFL. Think about that…
NOT saying Tua played well… but shit, some of y’all are ripping him apart.
Marino had lots of bad games, as has every other QB
What do you mean? LOL 😉
No QB plays only good to great games
Sometimes, when the most important player (arguably) has a shit game, you have to call it for what is was….Tua had a shit game and probably was a huge reason why we lost. That’s just my opinion….he was terrible today…lol.
Don’t think he was “terrible” today, but yeah, he wasn’t prime Tua, to be sure. When one guy has a bad day, the rest of the team should step up… JMO.
Why is saying it like it is “ripping him part?” Lol….
Nah, you’re good, Krishna. Acknowledging that Tua didn’t have a good game is alright and fair.
I’m just seeing a LOT of BS on the web, folks trying to bury Tua for this one loss. That’s how the media rolls, man. They truly hate Tua.
It’s not excuses. Sometimes players have off days. What team is perfect this year? Maybe the Eagles are close. I would not be surprised if they’re in the Super Bowl. They are good in all phases.
Jalen Hurts was my “man crush”, despite EVERYTHING the media said about him.
Loss was on Tua. Played a shitty game. Not the end of the world.
Agreed.
Now I wish the media would say that he’s going to further LEARN from his mistakes instead of prematurely burying him for the n-teenth time in a row.
And, Tua had an “off” day for sure…these facts.
Receivers were spinning around trying to catch balls, jumping as high as they could to even try and tip the ball, falling on the ground to try and scoop it….and every other fucking way you could miss a receiver and he did miss alot….lol…wtf?!
All the great QBs have had tough games. It’s not like we all started following this game last week. LOL
This week Tua played like garbage. It’s how he plays next week that will reveal where we’re heading.
14-2 and 8-1 has no room for a clunker?
There is room for clunkers, so just admit it…lol
Been doing that for a week. I’ve admitted it many times.
Funny a lot of people were talking about the Niners injuring Tua but it was Jimmy G that got taken out by us
It’s petty, but I’m glad we ruined their SB chances.
Terrible game but we’ll see if things are fixed by next week. Tua continues his struggles against top teams while beating up on bad ones. This is the best defense in the NFL but his accuracy issues weren’t caused by them. Maybe lack of faith in his OTs, lack of running game, or just a bad game. Let’s hope for #3.
He wasn’t the only one. The defense is terrible. We have tons of talent but struggle against almost every offense. Boyer should be replaced. 3rd string QBs shouldn’t produce results that make your QB look like the 3rd stringer. Same with STs coach. They just aren’t good.
It’s just one game but it feels like everything has to be perfect or our opponent terrible to just win. SF gave us opportunities and we looked really bad and unable to use them. Tua needs elite WRs, an elite OT, and an elite offensive coach to produce. All QBs need this but most of them have either a decent defense or ST unit to help them out We don’t have either and he’s not getting it done. Elite QBs sometimes carry the team. He hasn’t done that yet and it’s probably another year before we see if we are a true contender. He can easily get there though and is our franchise QB. Improvement will come.
We have no excuse not to win next week. Chargers are an average team at best. Playoff teams win games like this.
SF just lost their QB for the year.
We just lost one non conference road game.
I’d rather be us.
Truthfully, who thinks SF can win the SB?
with Brock Purdy as the #1 QB and a complete ?mark as their backup?
We are 8-4.
SF is 8-4.
We still have Tua.
Our main AFC challengers all lost – NE, LAC, NEJ, Indy, Titans …
For SF
The Seahawks won, and Vikings won, and Eagles won big,
and the Cowboys won HUGE.
The Chiefs lost to the Bengals in a Big Game AGAIN.
Lamar got hurt and Jimmy G is out for the season.
I’d rather be a young team with young HC and a young QB
and still in a playoff spot.
It was “one” tough loss on the road against a hot NFC team and that’s it.
OK
everybody raise your hand
who thought we would win out
when we were 3-3.
Didn’t think so.
This was a teachable moment.
I’d rather Tua lose this one and
learn how to chill for a Big Game now
than the first round of the playoffs.
It seems like everyone forgot Tua beat New England, Baltimore in an epic comeback and the Bills in a gritty gutty performance this season
Try being realistic for a moment. You play one game at a time. No one gives a flying fuck what happened week 2 or week 3 right now. This is now. This was a big game and he absolutely, undeniably came up very small and lost the game. Hopefully a few weeks from now we won’t give a flying fuck about this game either. Tua needs to play like he played all season long, with the exception of yesterday for that to happen. He fell off the horse yesterday, hopefully he can dust himself off and get back on it and torch the Chargers. Armstead will probably be back, and he’ll probably feel more comfortable. We need him to be good to win.
He didn’t play well yesterday but everyone is acting like he can’t win big games but he has. You were talking about moving in from Tua. He is 14-3?in his last 17 starts. What happened in week 2 or 3 is relevant. We don’t play meaningful now if Tua didn’t play well then
No one forgot how Tua and the team got to 8-4 and NO one on this board (I think) thinks Tua is a bad QB or is not elite in a lot of ways….lmfao.
But, geez, loueez can’t you fucking just admit it and SAY it. This isn’t participation-trophy world….lol.
No fucking excuses, he had a TERRIBLE game and he needs to get right for the next 5. It’s that simple.
And, I agree that our D and ST needs to fucking get it together too….I really have no faith in either unit.
Lol….Mike E…..flying fucks are everywhere….lol
At least Mike E. and I are on the same flying fucking page…lol.
We have 5 games left and we can go 5-0
Personally I would rather lose and come out with a healthy QB than lose my QB for the season
We have a shot at ruining the chargers playoff hopes next week and taking the division from the bills the week after that
Those are big games
Losing a west coast road game v the nfls best defense is not something to dwell on
It was the kind of game you should quickly forget
Ken – Nowhere did I say we should move on from Tua. What I said was we need Flores to pull him from this game, and he was pulled eventually. I said at least 3 times he (Tua) has to play well next week or we’re in trouble.
At one point you said something along the lines you don’t know if you can win with him if he plays like this in big games
Which I interpreted to mean you wanted to move on from him.
Ken – It’s just like with the Mets, Scherzer pitched some real good games during the season. In the playoffs, he was just awful, got knocked around the park. Does anyone care about the few good games he pitched during the season when he bombed in the playoffs? NO! No one cares what Tua did 10 weeks ago, it’s all about now. He has to play better than he did this week next week against the Chargers or you’ll be the only one defending Tua about weeks 1, 2 and 3. You know that.
Totally different when comparing a sport with 162 games to a sport with 17. In football every game counts
Yeah, but it’s not different Ken. If Tua finishes the season playing poorly the rest of the way, no one is going to point to the early season games as a reason to continue with him. You have to win big games late in the season too, not just the beginning. Scherzer pitched a couple of huge games against the Braves in August, and those games meant a lot at the time, just like games 1, 2 and 3 did early on for us. But in weeks 14,15,16 and 17, those games don’t matter anymore going forward.
Well I agree that if the next 5 games are like this then there is a problem. I suspect that is not the case and by the 4th quarter Tua was playing much better but it was too late at that point to win the game
Just think about it like this
We’ve had such a good year so far
That after a loss, you guys suck at arguing with each other after the loss
You are out of practice
😂
True that!
I hate to lose as much as anyone, and Tua was off target on a bunch of passes, but I think when players and coaches say “we needed to lose one like that,” this is what they mean.
This will help remind our guys that the difference between winning and losing is about being precise.
“Almost” catching the ball on 3rd down means you screwed up the drive. Overthrowing receivers all night will allow the other offense onto the field
and even if they just kick FGs, 3 points to none 4 times a game adds up to a loss.
The guys all know now what “playoff” football is like.
We’ve won games all year where we did not play a perfect game,
but now that it is playoff season, we can’t win sloppy.
HOWEVER …
This isn’t like college football where one loss causes people to not vote your team into a 4-team playoff. (most years)
We’re still in the playoffs with a 2-game lead on the Chargers and patsies.
Before the season I picked us to go 11-6.
We need to go 3-2 from here to get to that.
We should be able to still get into the playoffs if we do that,
as I do not see either NE or SD winning 5 games in a row.
Before yesterday, we had 6 games left,
but ALL of them are against playoff caliber teams.
Games are different in the NFL in September/ October vs December/ January. In December and January, the good teams have tightened things up, ratcheted up the intensity, are playing their best, and are making a push for the playoffs. We saw that from a Niners team yesterday that knows how to win even with a 7th rd pick rookie QB.
During the Brady years, New England used to lose games all the time in the early months that people would say “How did they lose to that team?”, but they always got it figured out in the later months.
Winning games early is not equivalent to winning games late because the competition is different.
All that said, yesterday was just one lousy game from our QB (along with another of many lousy games from our D). I’m not worried yet. Tua lays another egg against the Chargers and I’ll start to worry.
I don’t think we’re legit SB contenders anyway, but not because of Tua and the offense. We have the worst STs in the league and a bottom half defense. The offense will probably have to play near perfect 3 games in a row against the elite of the AFC to get to the SB.
We’re a strong playoff contender that no one will want to face, assuming yesterday Tua was an aberration. In any one game, we’re a scary team to face, because if the offense is on, we’re a tough out for anyone.
I think this is a make the playoffs year, get a taste and some experience, then maybe next year we build upon that experience, fix the other two phases, and make a serious run.
That is kind of where I see us to. I mean we are capable of going on a run but we are not as good of a team right now as the Chiefs, Bills and probably even the Bengals.
We’ll find out a lot about the makeup of our team in the next couple of weeks. We really should beat the Chargers who are in the middle of their annual late season swoon, lol.
Thanks Kong – you saved me a whole lot of typing there. Agree with all the above. I’d add – not only does December January get more pressurised where the cream starts to rise, but the weather plays a part. You have to stay on the field on 3rd down (especially 3rd and short) and get the other team off the field on third down. We are capable of spectacular plays on both sides of the ball, but not consistently. There are teams who can also make spectacular plays but will keep that up for most of the regular season and play-offs.
Our running game yesterday was weak at best (and under-used). SF took Tua’s favourite middle away much more than other teams have done and he looked bewildered. They got to him a lot and he started hearing footsteps. He tried too hard, too often. Even coach blamed himself.
Wilson Jr was off. Waddle was injured. Armstead was out. We had a lot of adversity and didn’t overcome it. Having said all that, saw a couple of Tweets:
“Last year, the Bills played the league worst Jaguars and lost 6-9 in a game that Josh Allen threw for 264 yds no TD and 2 INT. Good teams have bad games. Great teams have bad games. This is the NFL, grow up and realize if we don’t look perfect every week the team isn’t cooked”.
“We played the worst game we have played all year and still came close to beating one of the hottest teams in the NFL. It can’t look like this the rest of the season, but one game doesn’t change my opinion of this team. 8-4 and firmly in the playoffs at this moment”.
I too think this was just one game. But measured against “winning it all”, we probably have too many deficiencies. Marcel tweeted this mid-game “Dolphins’ rank 24th in 3rd down defense this season and it’s showing today. 49ers are 5/9 now on third down and have converted on their past three attempts”
We have got to where we are today (still with a healthy record, and in a play-off spot) with an exciting fast paced attack and stopping the other team when it really, really mattered more often than not. That attack, though, is not unstoppable at times (as we’ve seen) and it still too one-dimensional. And if the D has a bad day and doesn’t come up with that stop we are out of the race in the play-offs.
I love watching this team. It’s relevant and exciting. It’s not where it needs to be yet to go all the way. We also may not have the ammo to get us over the hump. I’m not gonna get too stressed about that though. Que sera, sera. There’s a lot of good people trying to get us there and fingers crossed they can.
If nothing else, that got the MVP and unstoppable nonsense to go away and some realism may just be what we need to start another run. The great thing is that with a healthy #10 and #17, we should be in most games right to the death.
My biggest worry going into the game was Tua getting KILLED without 2 Tackles playing …
I think he may have worried about it too … thus the “yips”. Tua had an average game that would have been stellar if he hits the wide open receivers as he had been. The game would have been very different.
True, it was a 3rd string QB … but it was SF Running Game that sealed the win.
Takes us back to Tua’s bad day … IF executed, our game plan could have had us up big and SF w0uldn’t have been able to afford running so much.
I think Miami leaves this game with this lesson: Even down star Left tackle, the offense can still work at a high level. Our team if built to win shoot outs. So, all those missed ‘easy’ plays created a hole. THIS can be fixed in one week.
Until the overturned reception I was 95% sure we were gonna win “vs Balt style” …
THEN the wheels fell off “vs Jets style”. smh
The biggest positive I took from yesterday’s game, which you touched on, is that this offense is capable of putting up points on any defense. I was curious how we’d look against a legit defense. Niners D is #1 in the league, and the plays were there to be made all game.
It all goes back to what I said all week, Armstead is the key, without him we haven’t figured out how to win
Tua played yesterday, as if someone told him to get rid of the ball quickly, because the rush is coming
Like he was uncomfortable
THIS ^
I don’t understand why Jeff Wilson got only 1 carry.
Mostert got only 7.
We only ran the ball 8 times.
We threw it at least 34 times.
Against a strong pass rush team, (and Joey Bosa)
why give them so many chances for sacks?
This is where I think McDaniel needs to grow as a playcaller. Part of it is that we throw some short passes as an extension of the running game, but he also kind of forgets about the run game.
We averaged I think 4.1 per rush yesterday, and we didn’t get down two scores until late. There was no reason to abandon the run game.
I earn a nickel every time I write ‘run game’
Why do people keep talking about 2 tackles out?
Jackson has been out since week 1, played last week and hasn’t been as good as Shell
Is the team staying in California this week?
Yes
Krishna, I am on the same page as you and MikeE.
Though, I put no blame on the defense. They got some stops in the first half where we SHOULD have put more points.
The defense was on the field for 41 minutes this game. That is all on the offense and MM. We averaged 4.1 yards a carry but yet we only ran the ball 8 times the whole game.
McCaffrey only averaged 3.9 a carry, 17 carries for 66 yards. I would take that every time we faced McCaffrey. They held Deebo to 5 yards on 4 carries. The other dude, Mason, killed us though.
The defense got the stops we needed in the second half also. The D got the stop and allowed us to get within 6 points then got another stop to where we could drive for a go ahead TD.
Again, I don’t fault our defense when having to be on the field for 41 minutes. I fault MM for not calling a more balanced game and Tua for being WAY off. I would rather have 2nd and 7 then 3rd and 4 or 5 instead of constantly seeing 2nd and 10 then 3rd and 10.
There’s 2 sides to being on the field for 41 minutes, mostly agree though
Also contributing to TOP disparity were the long TDs, don’t remember anyone bitching about those, when they happened
and the TOs
D played well enough to win
Half of the Niners drives were long drives where the defense couldn’t get off the field, including that TD drive at the end of the 1st half. They gave up 17 first half points. The Niners ran 79 plays and were 8 of 19 on 3rd down. They had 19 3rd down attempts, lol.
Our D did enough to win if our offense played well, but they were far from good, especially when you consider it was a 7th rd pick rookie QB. That is always the case with our D. They play well enough to win if the offense lights it up.
Our D should have been able to clamp down on the Niners after Jimmy went down, but immediately gave up a TD on the next drive, a TD to end the half.
