Dolphins commit to Tua – Pick up 5th year

This was music to my ears, music I desperately wanted to hear. This fan is simply disgusted by all the negativity, the naysayers, know-it-all-neurosurgeon-fanboys from other teams, and really all the talking heads who were in lockstep with the fanboys. The Miami Dolphins basically just said STFU!!! Tua is our QB, in 2023, and at least through 2024 as well. Unless the Dolphins had information that Tua’s next big hit would be his last, and the man would need to retire, then this was the right thing to do. Tua is a winner, and if we had him the whole season, we could have been the #2 or #3 seed in the AFC. We might have had a BYE in the playoffs or played at home, with Tua starting. It didn’t happen, and it appears the Dolphins were very cautious with their young QB and perhaps a tad overprotective, but that was a move made for the future.

There is so much hate for this kid, yes, especially from our own Dolphins fanbase. For those people, Tua is too much of a risk, or to the extremists, not talented enough to win. To those imbeciles, I present Exhibit A. Tua’s record as the QB of the Miami Dolphins, 21-13. You’d have to go back as far as Chad Pennington in 2008 to find a more favorable W/L record. Unfortunately, Chad Pennington, 11-5 only made it one season before retiring. Knucklehead Dolphins fans will say “Tua had the best WR’s in the NFL, that’s why!”. OK, so he was 8-5 this season with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. What about 2021, when it was Jaylen Waddle, a hobbled DeVante Parker for 10 games, Mack Hollins, Isaiah Ford, with the backfield of Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed, Phillip Lindsay for 4 games, and Malcolm Brown. In 2020, it was a hobbled DeVante Parker for 14 games, Mack Hollins, Lynn Bowden Jr., Jakeem Grant etc. 21-13, not earthshaking, but it’s good for a .617 winning %, better than all but Chad Pennington, who did it for one season 14 years ago. Yet, some Dolphins fans will still sling arrows at Tua. Ridiculous!

Let’s take a different angle. Tua is a team player, a genuinely nice kid. He works as hard as anyone on the team, his HC Mike McDaniel loves him. Yes, we know that former Head Coach Brian Flores did not like Tua, but where the F is Brian Flores now, he with his nonsensical lawsuit against the NFL? Is he a Head Coach now? No! What Head Coach sabotages his own team because he doesn’t like the starting QB? Brian Flores. Flores pulled Tua out of games he struggled in, and that kind of tact shows a lack of confidence in a player, and in turn, stunts his development. Players need to play through adversity, but Flores didn’t allow Tua to grow. Despite Brian Flores, Tua grew anyway, and now with the confidence of his new HC, and the 3rd different offensive system, he flourished. 2023 will be the first time in Tua’s career that he will have the same offensive system in place to build upon.

People will mock Tua because of his injury history. People will laugh that he’s taking Jiu-Jitsu to learn how to protect his body when he’s hit and falls. Some people think that’s comical, that he’s a 25 year old man that should know to fall. How people can hate a person that is doing everything he can to be better at his craft, one that will work relentlessly to do so is beyond me. Personally, I feel bad for his detractors, I think they’re a sad bunch. Not since Dan Marino have we had a successful QB for more than one season. Tua was NUMBER ONE in QB passer rating last season (105.5). The QBR is the most comprehensive metric for a QB and Tua was the best! Better than Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert, Allen, ALL OF THEM! NUMBER ONE in yards per attempt (8.7). NUMBER ONE in yards per completion (13.1). There are 3 other categories that Tua was tops in, yet people still hate. It’s a ridiculous phenomenon that I believe only social media could breed.

I look forward to a great 2023 season with our Miami Dolphins. We’ve cleared lots of cap space, to the tune of $28M +, and will get an additional boost when we cut Byron Jones June 1st, to put us over $40M. We have a lot of guys I’d like to re-sign, this will enable that to happen. Elandon Roberts, Nik Needham, Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, Brandon Shell and possibly even AVG, although I think he’s going to be playing elsewhere. There will likely be a surprise signing as well, but hopefully we’ll fill our roster out well in free agency and then the draft, and then again in free agency after the draft. Our team is close, on the cusp of being a legit playoff contender and more.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

  1. The Flying Pig says:

Imagine being a jests receiver and seeing Rogers demands…..

The jests have pretty good skill players, now Rogers wants to replace them all…lol

  2. So they’re putting the band back together at RB. Nice!

Wilson getting more must be because he’s younger.

  3. bailbondmike says:

Josh Jacobs tweets after seeing report Raiders traded Darren Waller to Giants 😳

  5. manitobafinfan says:

kudos to FO … gittin it dun

  6. CavalierKong says:

Sigh, I’m bored. It’s been like an hour since we’ve signed anyone.

  7. Rockphin says:

    Orlovsky loves him some Tua

  8. steveccnv says:

We have 44 roster worthy players signed now 22 on O and D and 2 STs

What’s up with Morestead? Get him signed

  9. Rhino says:

One thing is clear, FO knew specifically what they wanted for year 2, and they methodically went out there and got it (are getting it)!

  10. Steve, gotcha on #77. I was thinking maybe a player. Then I saw that was Jenkins and I said to myself how does he have anything to do with it? LOL

  11. Ken says:

    Well this didn’t age well:

  13. bailbondmike says:

    Y’all enjoying your snow today?

  14. Krishna says:

Really nice job by management so far…in many ways, imo.

D is filled out, I would love to find OL and TE as keepers in the draft…top 100 picks…and hope we hit.

DC found for D and coached up by one of the best, who’s been on a sabatical on scheming against the current top O’s in the league, with elite talent…

MM and Tua and top WRs and scheming from brlliant coach….Protect your QB and find a TE worthy of a few from our past.

    Re-sign Morestead….

    What could go wrong?

    Injuries…lol

  15. bailbondmike says:

Bryan, Dang! My sis-in-law is getting hammered in NY also. She lives right on the Mass. border east of Albany in Stephentown, NY.

  16. Krishna says:

I like the 2 year contracts returning our RBs and keeping that unit intact.

  17. Krishna says:

Re-sign Sherfield and Cracraft, too…imo. Very reliable, clutch even.

  18. bailbondmike says:

Until we sign a F/A TE

    51. Darnell Wright OT Tennessee
    84. Sam LaPorta TE Iowa
    197. Jalen Redmond DT Oklahoma
    238. Ben Sims TE Baylor

  19. We’ve put ourselves in a position to not have to target a RB in the draft unless one we really like falls to us. Maybe we draft one in the 6th or 7th or sign a few UDFAs hoping to find a gem.

  20. Some FA grades. LB David Long seems to be one of those guys that our pro scouts did a good job scouting and his contract at 2 years $11M is pretty sweet. These 2 years deals we’re doing shows us that we’re geared to push for a championship this year and next.

  21. This is the plan. You strike when you have this good of a roster together for a couple of years. FA is always going to rear it’s head with your good players eventually. This fan is just fine with it. 🙂

  22. Rockphin says:

    Ima just leave this here

A Tight End that is a great blocker and can pick up that DE is a concussed QB’s best friend….

  23. son of a son of a shula says:

I love every move so far. I’m glad we kept Duke Riley, he’s a good player.
Glad we kept our backs, year two and first camp with us for Wilson should go much better for these guys.
What can you say about Ramsey except WOW

  24. Rockphin says:

It’s time to pass the hat around again for the guy who posted that gas mask vid

  25. CavalierKong says:

  26. CavalierKong says:

    LMAO

I’m going to keep posting about this situation while he’s holding the Jest by the short and curlies, because it’s hilarious.

  27. Based on what we did in FA and maybe we add a FA TE, here’s my ode to OD draft. 😉

    51: R2 P20 G Cody Mauch – North Dakota State
    84: R3 P21 C Joe Tippmann – Wisconsin
    178: R6 P1 OT Carter Warren – Pittsburgh
    238: R7 P21 OT Kilian Zierer – Auburn

    • son of a son of a shula says:

      He’ll still bitch
      lol jbb

    • son of a son of a shula says:

I get you’re having fun but we can use a variety of positions and we need these few draft picks to seed the future. Rookies work cheap.

      • LOL

We still have some young talent like that and we will have a 1st and 2nd next year. This team is geared up to compete for a championship. The 2nd year in this offense that hasn’t happened in what seems like forever. Yes the defense will change but we hired one of best defensive minds in the game as DC. It’s go time!!!

  28. This explains our approach at RB which wasn’t that surprising. Rumor has it we were interested in Dalvin Cook but the price both in compensation and salary was likely too high.
    https://www.si.com/nfl/dolphins/news/miami-dolphins-indeed-running-it-back-at-running-back

    • I forgot Ahmed was originally a UDFA in SF in 2020 when McDude (lol) was running game coordinator. He now has 3 backs he had in SF.

Mostert was with us in TC back in 2015. He’s had quite the journeyman career.

  29. mf13ss says:

So after two days of FA (rather, the so-called ‘tampering period’), we found ourselves a backup QB in Mike White, re-signed our RB stable, and found ourselves an ILB/MLB in David Long (who may or may not be a starter).

Biggest holes IMO are at TE (would love to add Hayden Hurst) and RT.

Still wouldn’t mind another Safety (Jordan Poyer) or ILB/MLB (Bobby Wagner), IF we have enough money to do so.

Gotta find depth at the OLB positions and re-sign Punter Thomas Morstead.

    • CavalierKong says:

      And Ramsey

    • LB David Long will play a lot of snaps for us. We targeted him as a read and react off-ball tackler who is a high energy guy. He thrives as a run defender and timely blitzer, but can also makes plays in pass defense. To me he’s a cog player that is part of the entire defense. We also re-signed Duke Riley who is a quality nickel LB. Along with Baker and Tindall we see where we’re going.

  30. son of a son of a shula says:

    Bridgewater wore 5
    New QB White 5
    Ramsey wears 5
Should White get it because a QB previously had it?
Doubt it – Ramsey takes what he wants

  31. CavalierKong says:

Watched the Irving video. There is nothing crazy, seems like a harmless interaction, but if I had to read her body language, I’d say she was reserved, hands behind her back, takes a half step back when he touches her elbow. She never leans in towards him. But that is a guess. She also shakes his hand towards the end, was the one that approached him in the first place, and didn’t really seem to try and disengage at any time. She’s also an employee, and if she’s customer service, maybe she felt stuck.

Without knowing what was said, there really isn’t enough context, but you can see there was no inappropriate sexual contact. Maybe unwanted elbow touch, and if he said something along with it, it might be worse than it looks from a bird’s eye camera.

His lawyers were making a big deal about the two employees who came in at the end. I’m not sure if they are implying one might be her manager and he was angry with her for talking to him, or what. He’s got witnesses that were in the bar, I assume the two hotel employees are witnesses for Marriott. Not sure how this gets past he said/ she said.

  32. When FA is official at 4PM- EST tomorrow do we start to see more movement?

    • son of a son of a shula says:

Byron Jones will officially become an ex-Dolphin
All that official stuff kicks in. When all those guys hit the market there could be some moves. For instance Matt Ryan will be released (and the only stiff left to go to the stej after Rodgers burns them)

  33. CavalierKong says:

    https://www.si.com/nfl/dolphins/news/miami-dolphins-true-all-in-approach-would-entail-adding-big-time-running-back

According to Omar, we’re not really all-in unless we trade for a bell cow RB, lol.

    • Yes nothing else would point to all in except for RB. Maybe he’s talking about sneakers. I don’t know. LOL

      • CavalierKong says:

The last line of the article (about trading for Cook or Henry):

“Without that caliber of move, this is just business as usual for the desperate Dolphins.”

Omar hasn’t lost step, still got it…🤣

    • son of a son of a shula says:

If we win the SB these assholes are going to bitch about how we won it

      • CavalierKong says:

LOL, yep. This is the most exciting offseason in recent memory, can’t wait for the upcoming season. We have clearly already upgraded the roster over last year with more to come, and it isn’t good enough because we didn’t trade for either Cook or Henry.

  34. son of a son of a shula says:

I predict Carson Wentz will be the jets starting QB in 23

  35. I think OL and TE is still on the table in FA. What say you?

  36. This is this blog in a nutshell. LOL

  37. Wyoming85 says:

    Well there is this

    • pheloniusphish says:

    LOL

We still have some young talent like that and we will have a 1st and 2nd next year.

Last year at this time you were saying, and we have 2 1sts in 2023, how’d that age?

  39. Dean Chance says:

    I like this F/A period

    • Wyoming85 says:

I didn’t think we would have near this much money to spend!

And am really pleased with the 2 new additions!

Oh and Welcome to the board

  40. Ken says:

    FA begins today 😉

  41. pheloniusphish says:

Damn Wyo, do you sleep? Posting at 1130 PM followed by posting before 6 AM.

Welcome to the jungle, Dean. We definitely have fun and games.

  42. Mike E. says:

Welcome Dean! As a well seasoned Mets fan, I recognized that name immediately. Not sure if that’s your handle or your name. If it’s the former, you’re a Mets fan and Dolphins fan like a few of us here. Again, welcome to the blog!

  43. Dean Chance says:

Sorry guys should have said more. I had to change for name from uwantwat because the site wouldn’t let me in. I’ve finally feeling a lot better. It only took 3and 1/2 months and the result is I’m a chemical baby but the pills are working and keeping me normal. It’s good to be back with you all.

  44. Dean Chance says:

Mike you made me laugh, I got the name Dean Chance from a book I read years ago.
The Fins are really doing a terrific job at the moment. Made some really good moves. The David Long Jr. signing was a steal of a deal IMO. Ramsey trade WOW. A Bargain and as a bonus Hunter Long is finally gone.

  45. Dean Chance says:

Phelon thanks for welcome and I still haven’t got around to writing anymore of the book I was working on.

  46. Rockphin says:

Hey Dean! Welcome back. I am glad I saw the post where you explain that you were uwantwat or I would be thinking “who is this new guy? How did he find this blog”

How did you? originally I mean? (find this blog)

  47. Dean Chance says:

I used to read it when it was Walkers but I didn’t like the way it going. I read this for years but never posted. I do prefer all of you here. Its a civilized blog to be part of. As for the kitten I’ll try and find it.

  48. Dean Chance says:

Well I didn’t find it but I check mu usb sticks I may have it on one of those. When you’re asleep I probably go looking then.

  49. The Flying Pig says:

It doesn’t look like the jests and Rogers are even close other than the fact they both like each other

    • The Flying Pig says:

      Jets to Aaron Rogers

    • steveccnv says:

Shifty you’re a schmuck, it’s already been reported GB and jets have a comp deal in place, and it’s not for a bunch of 1sts IMO

Sure jets have to clear cap and rework his contract, but what team in their right mind hasn’t already put a plan in place. It is the jets but…come on man

If Rodgers says yes, the trade will be done quickly

  50. steveccnv says:

Here’s an article trying to explain what we’re doing with the cap, it’s pretty accurate IMO, and even though it talks about the cap going up in general, it doesn’t account for the new TV deal, which is going to continue to increase the cap significantly

Keys to being able to pull this off are reworking deals for players, that continue to play at a high level (no Stinky Sanchezes) and Ross continuing to dole out cash

He believes we can keep doing this without getting to cap hell, I’m on fence about it

    https://www.local10.com/sports/2023/03/14/miami-dolphins-sacrificing-the-future-not-so-fast/

  51. Dean Chance says:

Steve that stuff has been going on league wise for years. Managing the cap has turned into an art form.

    • steveccnv says:

Yes, but there’s more to it, than they lead on, a couple of things can really kill that approach, so buyer beware

Biggest downfall would be a situation like jets may be in next year, if Rodgers only plays 1 year in NY, their dead money would be massive

  52. Ken says:

Damn thought we had a new guy. It’s just Uwant 😉

  53. CavalierKong says:

Does Rodgers give the Jest a rose today? lol

    Welcome back Uwant.

    • steveccnv says:

      Middle finger

    • steveccnv says:

I’d really like to see Rodgers F up the jets cap, by playing only 1 year, but this could be our big year, don’t want Rodgers messing that up

      • CavalierKong says:

I’d like to see the Jest sign all his guys, then the Pack say “nah, we’re not trading him’. That would be a nice eff you to the Jest and Rodgers, lol.

      • CavalierKong says:

Unfortunately, that probably has no chance of happening. The Pack would probably give up picks to get rid of him at this point.

      • steveccnv says:

Lazard is a tough receiver, no matter who is throwing to him

      • CavalierKong says:

If the Jest don’t get Rodgers, I’m not worried about their receivers. They have Flacco and Wilson right now. Who’s left for them to sign if they don’t get Rodgers? Wentz?

      • CavalierKong says:

Actually, they don’t even have Flacco. LOL, I knew they’d be left holding nothing if he jilts them, but wow, they would be screwed.

  54. steveccnv says:

15.4m in cap space with David Long not showing up yet, but Hunter (eventually he’ll have just 486k for dead money) still listed

Hunter off adds almost 900k, David on reduces it (2yrs at 11m) maybe 3.5m, depending on his signing bonus

12.8m is my estimation of our current figure

  55. Dean Chance says:

If we needed to find more there’s plenty of ways to go about it. I just want to see us get value outta whoever we sign.

  56. Dean Chance says:

Cav I would laugh so hard if Rodgers jilts them. Make them trade up in the draft to pick 2 to draft a QB. Texans would love that.
Ken you will just have to put up with me now. Sad hey!

  57. ukfinfan says:

Good to see you back DC/UWW.

I’m also quietly optimistic on the upgrades and retains, but still not taking the cheese.

Only time will tell how all these pan out, but our biggest areas of need as a team for me are:

Improve tackling (some of the runs we gave up this year including from QBs was plain embarrassing – DL seems to have something of the ZT #54-lite in him when it comes to sniffing and snuffing out run plays from what I have seen and read)

Improve OL run and pass blocking (Need to keep Tua out of the protocol and run more consitently. I read we were top end of the league in 10+ yd runs and similar spot in runs that went absolutely nowhere. The latter needs to change and I am still wondering how that changes with the same personnel as of now? I hope McDude’s mindset changes in this respect too)

Get off the field sooner on 3rd down (under Fangio, with the D upgrades, we should be able to acheive this, but …….)

If I’m being really greedy, adding a multidimensional TE to further stress opponents Ds would be nice, but the brain-trust seems to be working through a plan so I’m not unduly worried about this.

  58. Rhino says:

TE has not been a priority thus far in Free Agency. There are only a small number of ‘dominant’ TEs in the NFL and I don’t think people want to spend their ‘early money’ on this year’s class of solid, but not dominant, TEs.

I find it hard to believe that any of them will get $10m+ regardless of what proposed market values are being reported.

Perhaps I am motivated by the hopes of getting TE and OL taken care of in FA so that in the draft we just go BPA.

    • The Flying Pig says:

I think we should be prioritizing a blocking old school TE rather than a receiving TE. It’s hard for me to believe they find an affordable TE in free agency right now. I don’t think it would be so bad to focus on TE in the draft

  59. Dean Chance says:

Kyle Crabbs made a good suggestion. Sign Foster Moreau and draft Darnell Washington as your 2 top TEs. Thanks for your welcome UK. If DW has gone by pick 51 I would take an OT and draft Tucker Kraft at 84. If there’s a TE run in round 2 I guess I would would bite the bullet and take Kraft at 51. then sign a blocking TE as long as they’re better than Smythe.

  60. naplesfan2010 says:

    #6. Austin Hooper

    Age: 28

    2022 stats (Titans): 41 catches, 444 yards, 2 TD

Hooper hasn’t been the same pass-catcher in Cleveland or Tennessee that he was with Atlanta, but he’s still a viable offensive option. The veteran’s blocking ability alone should be enough to earn him a consistent role next season.

  61. naplesfan2010 says:

#6.Irv Smith Jr., TE, Vikings. Age: 25.
The Vikings traded for T.J. Hockenson because Irv Smith Jr. couldn’t stay healthy. Smith is a physically gifted player who could eventually live up to his potential if he can remain healthy.

#7.Parker Hesse, TE, Falcons. Age: 28.
Parker Hesse doesn’t offer much as a receiver, but he’s an excellent blocker for this position.

  62. naplesfan2010 says:

These are out there in FA.
Are any of them better than a TE we could draft at Pick 51?

I’m assuming we’re not drafting an OT @ 51, but we might.
So are these guys better than a TE @ #84?

I think they’re probably better than a TE in the 6th or 7th.

Foster Moreau, TE, Raiders. Age: 26.
Donald Parham, TE, Chargers. Age: 26.
Austin Hooper, TE, Titans. Age: 28.
Robert Tonyan, TE, Packers. Age: 29.
Jordan Akins, TE, Texans. Age: 31.

  63. naplesfan2010 says:

Maybe we don’t have the money for anybody else in FA
and just need a cheap rookie @ TE.

  64. steveccnv says:

    Ian Rapoport
    @RapSheet
    ·
    2h
The #Panthers are expected to sign former #Bengals TE and first-round pick Hayden Hurst, source said. Another weapon for their new QB (whoever that is).

    • naplesfan2010 says:

That’s a homecoming of sorts since he played at South Carolina, just a little way down the intersate from Charlotte.

btw Hurst ran a 4.68, so maybe that’s fast enough.

  65. steveccnv says:

    Tom Pelissero
    @TomPelissero
    ·
    14h
The #Lions are signing former #Bears RB David Montgomery, per sources.

  66. naplesfan2010 says:

In the draft I really like the Georgia TE Darnell Washington,
but he ran a 4.64, which is not very fast these days for a TE.

    He can block well though.

And Rob Gronkowski ran a 4.68, but that feels almost like a different era.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      He’s my #1 target in the 2nd
He’s a good blocker and a big body
He’s not a refined route runner and not fast – so what, we have the fastest receiving core in the league

  67. Dean Chance says:

Naples…I think the draft TE class is better than the F/A class. Draft 1 and try and get a 2nd as a UDFA. Keep Smythe and Connor.

    • naplesfan2010 says:

      I’m fine with that,
but history shows a lot of busts after the 3rd round.

With FAs, you have NFL tape,
so you know if a guy can play in the league
and if he is a fit for your offense,
no matter what his draft status was.

  68. naplesfan2010 says:

    Gesicki ran a 4.54 40

  69. Dean Chance says:

DW is my pick for us at 51.

  70. bailbondmike says:

Jets only have 12.8 in cap space right now. Don’t know how they plan to be able to sign Rodgers and the rest of his want list.

  71. bailbondmike says:

If OT/G Cody Mauch is there at #51, I would not pass him up for a TE. There are a couple good blocking TE’s with receiving abilities at the tail end of the draft.

  72. manitobafinfan says:

Based on above TE FA rankings could Likley get Russ Dwelley on the cheap .. look him up He is not just a bag of chips , and knows the system

  73. The Flying Pig says:

    Bill resigned Poyer

Kind of a blessing in disguise we were not chasing him

Let’s focus on upgrading the running game
We need an OT and TEs

  74. Dean Chance says:

Good move re Poyer by the FO.

  75. The Flying Pig says:

Given our TE situation, I don’t think it’s too crazy to nab two TEs in the draft
There’s usually decent projects later on the draft
You can usually find TEs to be part of your big packages on day 3 of the draft

  76. Dean Chance says:

I would take Mauch over DW He’s the only OT around that mark I would consider.

  77. The Flying Pig says:

Ezekiel Elliot is a free agent
Don’t think the Dolphins are interested

But think of the vet free agents that may be available: Elliot, Saquon, Cook and Henry

We can probably monitor the situation and add a vet RB in June

    • steveccnv says:

Zeke seems done, it looked like getting him the ball was forced and the results weren’t good, similar to Gesicki

Checking the stats will probably dispute that, but it’s what I saw

      • The Flying Pig says:

He got outplayed by a rookie last year

He’s a wasted pick for the cowboys
But that doesn’t mean he still can’t be a productive back

He’s not my favorite of the group
Matter of fact – I don’t really love the player but I’m talking about all options

      • steveccnv says:

876 yards at 3.8 ypc and 12 tds

We have 2 guys in the upper 4s, why pay for a descending RB

      • steveccnv says:

Which rookie are you referring to?

The #Packers and #Jets continue to negotiate on an Aaron Rodgers trade but have not yet agreed to trade terms, per sources.

Green Bay isn’t looking for multiple first-round picks like other QBs (Russell Wilson, Matthew Stafford) have commanded in recent years. Talks ongoing.

  79. The Flying Pig says:

Mike White deal starting to look like a deal

  80. bailbondmike says:

The thing with LT Mauch is you can plug him in at LG and he can move right out to LT if/when Armstead gets dinged up.

      This is clearing things up?

Saying nothing, as if it’s something, reminds me of another lier

      • The Flying Pig says:

        I find Rogers really annoying

He is talking in circles here
All he had to say is that he plans to play for jests and packers and jets have to agree on the compensation

He’s trying not to say much

      • Rockphin says:

the EX president who’s name should not be spoken?

Seems like AFC East games are going to be a party this season

    Bills — Josh Allen
    Dolphins — Tua Tagovailoa
    Jets — Aaron Rodgers
    Patriots — Mac Jones

Breaking: Aaron Rodgers says he intends to play for the Jets next season, and that New York and Green Bay just need to work out trade compensation.

    • The Flying Pig says:

That’s pretty consistent with what Shefter is saying

But it seems like kinda a big deal to me
We have agreed to a trade – we just don’t know what we are trading?

The only thing decided is that Rogers wants to play for jests

If I am Gutekunst, I am ok with this taking all the way until the draft to sort out. If I don’t get what I want in the trade, I’m not giving the Jets & Rodgers what they want either. Gutey holds more leverage than most people think. The Jets & Rodgers need this more than GB.

The #Raiders reached out to the Packers about Trading for Aaron Rodgers. The Packers wanted 2 first round picks. LV moved on to Jimmy G. It’s probably also why the Jets/Packers trade hasnt gone through yet. GB better lower their expectations, or Rodgers will be cut for nothing.
    11:08 AM · Mar 15, 2023

Make them give you 2 1sts GB

    • The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think the packers have to do anything

Yeah they will get stuck with the cap hit – but it might be worth it concerning a HOF QB

They can play hardball if they elect to take the cap hit – given the expectation of the fans, it’s harder for Jests to fold here

What happens to the jests of this falls through. They just let white go. They just missed out on the other RBs

It’s not a great position for the jests. I would stick with my demands if I were the packers. But that’s me, a pain in the ass…lol

    • CavalierKong says:

      Stick it to ’em, Pack.

  88. Rhino says:

In a year where Miami is definitely “going for it” …. let all the media hype go to the Jets and how Rodgers’ ruined their chemistry. Meanwhile, Miami’s better TEAM can simply kick the Jets asses.

Jets will be paying and cheering for who he WAS, not who he is. Who he is, is a guy who can have a great game but cannot string them together like he used to.

  89. Rhino says:

If I remember correctly, Favre wanted to go to Minnesota but GB refused to trade him within the division … So Favre used the Jets for a year and then went on to Minnesota anyway. lol

But get ready for 6 months of: “just like Manning to Denver and Brady to TB, Rodgers’ to Jets blah, blah, blah.”

  90. It’s going to be a competitive AFC East but the AFC is already very competitive. To win the big trophy you have to beat the top teams.

  91. CavalierKong says:

I never thought Rodgers was retiring the same year as Brady. No way, no how. But it was nice to think about the Jest being jilted, lol.

  92. CavalierKong says:

That will look pretty good? Sure, if you’re into the whole shit covered in vomit thing.

  93. bailbondmike says:

I understand in wanting to get a beast blocking TE in Darnell Washington but I think we need to get the best OL at #51. I can’t help not to get over his running ability. I think he is worse at running routes then Gesicki and fear he won’t be able to get separation well. If you want a good blocking TE there are a few on late day 3.

TBH, in round 6 or 7 may be Camren McDonald, 6’4 240 runs in the 4.6’s. Waiting for the FSU pro day on 31 March to see what his actual #’s are.

I think he could be one of the more underrated TE’s in the draft. He’s got great hands, good run after the catch ability and a good blocker. He lined up mostly inline or at H-back.

  94. steveccnv says:

Rodgers said other teams were interested, Raiders confirmed it, but balked at the asking price

The asking price is the asking price, if GB is willing to take less than 2 1sts other teams would be in the bidding war

It’s on jets to accept the 2 1sts price or get off the pot

  95. bailbondmike says:

TE Josh Whyle, 6’6.5 248, 4.69 40, Cincinnati, is another late round (6 or 7) prospect but lacks in blocking. He is somewhat of a redzone threat and overall good receiver. They say he lacks good lower body strength which affects his blocking ability.

    • steveccnv says:

Scratch him then, if he can’t block

He must be able to block, decent hands, and have some power running ability after the catch

  96. CavalierKong says:

This is the alleged deal Jackson turned down last year. It’s Schefter’s answer to Jackson’s ‘3 yrs-133 mil’.

    • CavalierKong says:

“Here’s the deal. This is something that Chris Mortensen and I reported in September. Nothing new,” Schefter said. “We saw the contract back then and it was reviewed and the contract included $133 million guaranteed at signing. Fully guaranteed. Then, essentially, there were injury guarantees that brought it up to $175 million guaranteed for injury. That’s real. It was $168 million—there was another $7 million that is accounted for at a later date that makes it $175 million in guaranteed salary. Then, we mention this springing guarantee of basically $25 million. It would’ve raised it from $175 million to $200 million if he was on the roster on the fifth day of the 2026 league year. So, three years from now, if he’s on the roster, he gets another 25 [million dollars guaranteed].”

Essentially, for that $175 million not to kick in, Baltimore would’ve had to release him now and take a cap hit of $70 million. They’re not doing that.”

  97. Rockphin says:

So Jackson STILL Isn’t signed. WTF was his 3year 133 tweet all about? I thought he was bragging that is what he got, but I just checked and he still hasn’t signed.

  98. bailbondmike says:

One of my favs in the late rounds is Baylor TE Ben Sims. I brought him up before. He is probably the biggest late round fit for our team. He’s 6’4 253 (from what I hear). This is some of what Kyle Crabbs had to say about him:

They list him at 6’5 258

    Scheme tendencies: Zone rushing system

Pros: Ben Sims projects as a traditional Y-tight end at the NFL level. The Baylor system has called upon him to serve as a key piece in the blocking front for the team’s rushing offense, putting him on the frontside to seal the edge for outside runs and charging him with creating either horizontal or vertical push and softening edges. He has been fairly proficient in this regard, either against stacked defenders or wide-angled defensive ends. He has the density and functional strength needed to operate in this regard at the NFL level as well and I have little doubt that with some added refinement in his balance and posture in space, he can become a very sticky player.

Cons: While the receiving production does pop, I’ll say I’m not sure that Ben Sims is the type of athlete needed to run away from coverage players at the NFL level. Sims will provide more lopsided value as a blocker than as a receiver.
