RD 2 – Pick #51 CB Cam Smith 6’1 180 – South Carolina
With the Dolphins first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Dolphins selected CB Cam Smith from South Carolina. With Smith, the Dolphins add another DB who has a penchant for being around the football. Besides running fast, just as importantly, Smith processes fast. He follows the QB’s eyes well and gets to the ball very quickly. Another very important quality for a DB in the NFL is loose hips, and Smith turns very well, sinking his hips to remain low to the ground and remain balanced. I wasn’t expecting us to grab a CB with our first pick, but we definitely got a competitive one. The Jets now have Aaron Rodgers, so we will need to be solid in our secondary. With safety Brandon Jones coming back from injury, along with versatile DB Nik Needham also coming back from injury, Smith gives the Dolphins flexibility and depth if needed. Smith can play multiple positions, outside CB, inside CB as well as safety, and Vic Fangio likes versatility, which is precisely why we acquired Jalen Ramsey.

RD 3 – Pick #81 RB Devon Achane 5’8 188 – Texas A&M
I think all of us were hoping the Dolphins would add a young RB to their veteran stable. There were other running backs that had my interest, but Achane fits the bill quite nicely. Achane is an explosive offensive force. The Dolphins have added yet another home run threat to their arsenal. Pronounced Duh-vaughn A-Chain, Devon Achane will see early reps at PR/KR, giving him some guaranteed action immediately as a return man. Achane has true breakaway speed, running a 4.32, but he’s a very shifty, slippery runner as well, and he runs harder than his smallish stature infers. Like most of our RB’s, none of them are the physical, wear you down type of RB, they are all fast, quick, solid receiving running backs that given space can break off big runs. I would expect Achane to see some plays early on and eventually work himself into the RB rotation. He runs hard in between the tackles despite his smallish stature, and is always a threat to take on all the way, with quick, sharp cuts and shifty moves.

RD 6 – Pick #197 TE Elijah Higgins 6’3 235 – Stanford
Elijah Higgins has been a big slot receiver who has the potential to add some weight and potentially make the transition to TE. He’s a willing blocker, but at 6’3 and just 235, he’s not quite the ideal size. Higgins is a pretty good route runner, which gives the Dolphins something to work with,in the passing game, but he was available in RD 6 for a reason, his hands. He has suspect hands, and that has to improve if he’s going to be any kind of version of George Kittle. Still, he has upside who as I mentioned, is a very willing blocker, so throw out any notion of a slot receiving TE in the mold of former Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki. We have Tanner Conner in the fold, we’ll see what type of player Higgins can potentially become. First he has to make the roster, which will be difficult this year as our depth is excellent throughout the roster.
RD 7 – Pick #238 OT Ryan Hayes 6’6 298 – Michigan

With the Dolphins final pick in this year’s draft, Hulk must have been thrilled that we finally addressed the O-line, selecting OT Ryan Hayes from Michigan. Sorry Hulk, that was dripping with sarcasm. Despite being 6’6, Hayes 32.5″ arms are not the prototypical length to play OT in the NFL. However, the Miami Dolphins do have a successful OT in their history who also had short arms, one Mark Dixon who was 6’4 290, so who knows? Odds are though, Hayes would have to make the transition inside to OG. Hayes, a former HS TE and DE, Hayes is not a nimble or fluid athlete as his position versatility would suggest. Hayes does possess the much needed mean streak to play O-line in the NFL, and he’s a very motivated player. He was a very strong run blocker at Michigan, but he did struggle against speed rushers. Another reason he may move to move to OG. We currently have 10 offensive linemen on the roster, Armstead, Eichenberg, Williams, Hunt and Jackson are the starters, with Christian, Cotton, Feeney, Jones and Lamm as backups. I also feel there’s a good chance we might sign another vet OT as a backup, and Brandon Shell, who played very well in that role, would be ideal.
Here is a list of Undrafted Free Agents the Dolphins have brought in:
Miami Dolphins Undrafted Free Agents
- Anthony Montalvo, DL, UCF
- Aubrey Miller, LB, Jackson State
- Bennett Williams, S, Oregon
- Brandon Pili, DL, USC
- Chris Coleman, WR, Cal Poly
- Christopher Brooks, RB, BYU
- Daewood Davis, WR, Western Kentucky
- DJ Scaife Jr., OT, Miami (FL)
- Ethan Bonner, DB, Stanford
- Garrett Nelson, LB, Nebraska
- James Blackman, QB, Arkansas State
- Jarrett Horst, OL, Michigan State
- Julian Hill, TE, Campbell
- Mitchell Agude, EDGE, Miami (FL)
- Randy Charlton, DL, Mississippi State
- Zeke Vandenberg, LB, Illinois State
As always, there may be more players that have not been updated as of the creation of this list, apologies in advance for the accuracy of this list.
In summation, What I wanted to to get out of this draft was 2 players who have a legitimate chance to make an impact this season, and of course beyond. I believe we accomplished this, although I expected one of those players to be at the TE position, I obviously had different ideas than the triumvirate of Grier, McDaniel and Fangio. Regardless of my pre-draft feelings, Cam Smith will help our team this season, and hopefully he takes the sting out of the Iggy miss. A lot of different players saw action in our secondary due to injuries, so I would think Cam Smith will get plenty of opportunity to vie for playing time. There is no question in my mind that 3rd pick Devon Achane will contribute a lot to the special teams unit as a return man, and will quickly be incorporated into the run game as well. He’s a difference maker, and while we have veteran running backs on the roster that are capable, as I’ve said countless times, no RB on this roster is a bell cow back, and honestly, all of them fit better in a running back by committee effort, as durability is a concern for all of them, including our new draftee Devon Achane. The NFL is going in this direction anyway, there are fewer teams these day that rely heavily on one RB, those that do usually end up with injured RB’s and then are forced to change their philosophies, and thus their entire offense to adjust. We’re already there, so interchangeable parts are what we’re about right now.
GO DOLPHINS!!!

I can’t believe COVID is still a thing …probably will be forever now….
…lol…sorry
Gina Virus
Because it’s from Gina
Oh my! Page turn…lol
WELL the favored Maple Leafs are in DEEP SHIT NOW!!!
They just lost their 2nd straight home game to the Florida Panthers by a score of 3-2.
RARELY has a team LOST the first two at home and come back to win a best of 7 playoff series. Can’t clearly remember the last time it happened.
WELL the Toronto media are going to give it to their home town team IN SPADES!!
Meanwhile, the Panthers will soon be headed to Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport with huge smiles on their faces and plenty of beer in their bellies!!
Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was THE MAN TONIGHT. IF he can stay this hot for the rest of the series the Maple Leafs’ season will soon be over!
GOTTA HIT THE SACK and get up early for tomorrow’s physical therapy session. By the time it’s over I’ll feel like I was checked into the boards by an NHL defense man!!
CHEERS TO ALL OF YOU. The Old Dolfan is OUT!
Stay tough OD, all the best man
Thanks, Sonny! Our best to you and Yours.
Cav, hope y’all get better soon. That sucks.
Thanks, Son. We’ll be ok. This is the first time I’ve had it (my daughter has had it twice), and for me it’s been flu-like with some weird symptoms like the over-sensitive skin thing and I’ve had this horrible taste in my mouth for 3 days. My wife got it from me, so while I’m starting to get better, she is having a pretty bad time of it right now.
I’m just hoping I don’t lose any sense of taste the way Herd did. That scares me more than anything, lol.
If you’re that far into it you’re probably safe. That was the first thing that clued me into what it was and was early on, like maybe day 2.
Once I was feeling better but still couldn’t taste, I took advantage and drank all the wine I had that wasn’t my favorites. 🍷 😂
Hope that you and the Mrs. Feel better soon Cav
Thanks, Bri. Appreciated
Covid sux! Hope the pair of you get better soon Cav.
Feel better Kong family!
LMAO @ Herd! That’s pretty funny, drinking all the bad wine during COVID
Get better Cav and Fam!
Hey Herd! Henry Colombi from Marshall got an invite to Dolphins Rookie Minicamp
Cool. Last year was his only year with the Herd, had transferred around some if I remember correctly. He was the starter but was injured midway through the season. I do remember he was the starter when we beat ND! Go Herd! 💚
I’m in Boston. I feel dirty.
The hotel has a complete shop of sports stuff. I tried to look at the Celtics stuff but I still felt revulsion at the non green area.
It’s a pretty cool hotel though. Actually has a big casino I was not aware of. The food was great although $70 for steak is a bit pricey to me.
But the room is huge and very comfy ; the whole place is beautiful if a bit tacky.
It overlooks Mystic River which is pretty but but there’s a huge power station looks like Battersea so that’s kinda ugly.
Oddly it has one gigantic white wind mill turning slowly about 200 yards from my hotel window. It’s like 10 stories tall about.
careful those windmills cause cancer…..So says the Orangeman.
It was sort of a joke, rational people know it’s not true
He was putting something out there like, what the dems did with defund the police, without actually acting on it
It was for stupid people to wonder about, like a wishful thinking type of thing
You are such a fan boy
Hope you and Summer feel better soon Cav. We’ve not had Covid knock on wood.
For any tech geeks here . . .
Since I’m using YouTube TV, I’m noticing recorded shows have a lot of tiling, which really degrades the picture and viewing experience. Not having that issue with LIVE TV. My internet is Verizon Gigabyte which is fast enough, generally over 500Mbps. Right now using wifi for the TV, wondering if using the ethernet cable might eliminate this problem. The Verizon router is in the room behind the TV, so I could drill a hole in the base of the wall to get the ethernet cable to the TV, but I don’t want to drill if it won’t help. Anyone else here have YouTube TV and having this issue?

The wife and I are enjoying a nice round of covid. Not the worst sick I’ve ever been, not even close, but I have been suffering an odd symptom. My entire torso is hypersensitive, as if it were covered in bruises. Any light touch on my chest or back hurts. Makes laying in bed uncomfortable, or even sitting on a couch, which is the sum total of all I’ve been doing for the last few days, lol.
________
That was my experience when I had it in December. Nonsense lasted 3 weeks. I didn’t lose taste, but everything I ate tasted like stale cigarettes.
Hey Naples I know where you are staying – I drive nearby it every week – they built that place not that not long ago. That whole area is being transformed into an entertainment district so a big part of that power plant is decommissioned and going away soon. Enjoy your time in Boston.

The NFL schedule will be out next Friday. Fest date deliberations will then commence!

Biggest Remaining Holes for All 32 Teams After the 2023 NFL Draft
Story by Gilberto Manzano • Yesterday 6:30 AM
Buffalo Bills
Biggest needs: MLB, WR, RT
The Bills are still one of the top Super Bowl contenders, but the roster is starting to show some issues. Buffalo lost Pro Bowl linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and didn’t replace him. It also failed to add another starting-caliber receiver, leaving the Bills with Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis and little else in the way of proven talent on the perimeter. Beyond the offense, there’s a question about the defensive tackles now and into the future. If Ed Oliver isn’t going to get an extension, the Bills should be backfilling now with either a multiyear veteran or a younger talent who could see a rotation. —M.V.
Miami Dolphins
Biggest needs: OL, edge
Few general managers have done more work to upgrade their roster than Chris Grier has for the Dolphins over the past three years. In that time, Grier has drafted quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, receiver Jaylen Waddle, safety Jevon Holland, edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and others, while trading for corner Jalen Ramsey and receiver Tyreek Hill. Still, Miami needs help at right tackle and left guard along its front. Edge is also listed not because Phillips and Bradley Chubb aren’t good, but because the production was only middling last year. The Dolphins need Phillips to take the proverbial next step while Chubb stays healthy and produces. —M.V.
New England Patriots
Biggest needs: WR, OT, QB
Patriots fans might not like the reality, but quarterback is absolutely one of the team’s biggest needs until proved otherwise. New England would be wise to bring in a veteran reserve such as Teddy Bridgewater, who can step in and help the offense score 20 points if Mac Jones struggles again. New England is also without a star receiver, despite the three-year deal handed out in free agency to Smith-Schuster. The Patriots are one of the better defensive teams in football, but the offense is a problem, including the tackle spots. —M.V.
New York Jets
Biggest needs: OT, TE
Looking at the Jets’ depth chart, New York is one of the league’s more complete teams. In the draft, general manager Joe Douglas added edge rusher Will McDonald IV, along with center Joe Lippmann in the second round. The big concern, still, is who will protect quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the edges? New York can’t fake enthusiasm about fourth-year tackle Mekhi Becton, whom they declined the fifth-year option. The other area to watch is tight end. C.J. Uzomah is a quality player, and Tyler Conklin had 58 receptions for 522 yards in 2022. Both will be counted on by Rodgers when teams double cover receiver Garrett Wilson. They will need to consistently beat man coverage and work underneath in zone. —M.V.

I don’t think WR is an issue for Bills, that TE they got will be playing WR
We’ve seen what happens, when a team has 2 very good TEs, that play on the field at the same time, Cheats did it with Gronk and that UF guy that went to prison
Aaron Hernandez
Damn!
UDFA DT Anthony Montalvo, UCF
Anthony Montalvo is a DT prospect in the 2023 draft class. He scored a 9.25 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 122 out of 1620 DT from 1987 to 2023. #Dolphins https://t.co/IcRl3rJmMq pic.twitter.com/3uRwXSc4aY
— Kent Lee Platte (@MathBomb) April 30, 2023
He’s got the physical tools, let’s see if he can put it together and make the team!
https://dolphinswire.usatoday.com/lists/dolphins-2023-rookie-ras/
he is only 6′ nothing and 284lbs which is why he went undrafted
Aaron Donald is 6’1 280. One of the most impactful DT’s in the game
Dude is 6’1 and has 33″ long arms. Do they knuckle drag!? Did 30 reps on the bench with those arms!
Scratch Tarlor Lewan off your UFA want list. He probably won’t be playing for anyone.

I hope he gets squat!
^
I think we already have an agreement in place with Brandon Shell, just a hunch. He is better than Little though Little is still young.

I agree in general
Ahhh, thanks you guys.
It’s always nice to receive boosts from friends when you’re sick. I’m a big believer in the effects of positive energy and something as simple as a “hey, feel better!” can be uplifting in a moment when a person is not at their best. There are so many people on this board who support each other, even in something as simple as being sick. You guys and gals are warm human beings and friends in that regard. Cheers!
Feel better.
You rock dude and your wife is awesome. Genuinely wish you a quick and full recovery
A chat with Ricky Williams….
This trio isn’t bad and nice to look at.
Kong, Hope you and the wife feel better soon !!
Last one and it’s nap time.
So with the signing of Greg Little we’re at 13 OL not counting UDFAs. Usually have 15 for TC – 3 teams.
We didn’t sign Little. The Texans did
Oh I read it wrong. Never mind.
DT Anthony Montalvo could compete for nickel and dime snaps.
Very athletic but a bit small
That’s why I said he could play more in passing situations.
Feel better Kong
LOL
It’s seriously crazy
Yeah after Year all I heard was that Green Bay didn’t get Rogers any weapons
I also heard about the incredible young talented skill players on the jets
So now they signed all Green Bay’s skill players – wtf
I love it
He’s got plenty of weapons to work with.
Revenge of the 5th!!! Hahaha!
UK, just for you. All of the animations from the ‘Bounty Hunter’ game, feat. Jango Fett (that’s me! 😉 ). Yes, our guy Temuera Morrison did all of the voice work for Jango.
Friendly reminder, the MAKER (George Lucas) signed off on this in 2002. Thus, it IS Star Wars cannon!
From six years ago but still one of my favs.
I know, boo! May the Sith be with you. lol
Wow, quiet AF here today
The Mets are rolling… the wrong way. 😦
WOW is right. I been stuck in the next county all day doing bonds. Just got back and refreshed so I could read and catch up while I ate dinner.
One French fry in, I was done. lol
USFL kicker Alex Kessman has booted FGs of 53 and 54 yards in 1st quarter already tonight for Memphis. He should be playing in Sundays
They said they are going to bring one in to compete.
Alright, someones got to post something. AHHH! How about a 2024 MOCK DRAFT!
22. Brock Bowers TE Georgia
54. Brandon Dorlus DT Oregon
150. Zion Nelson OT Miami (FL)
182. Christian Mahogany G Boston College
214. Ty’Ron Hopper LB Missouri
Didn’t really care about the rest after my first pick. We only signed Saubert for one season.
The competition between Conner and Higgins should be fun to watch. Hopefully both are productive when called on.
We added this rook to our offense. He’s a Warrick Dunn/Darren Sproles type back. Returns too.
Yessir! He was my first ‘man crush’ of the ’23 Draft many months ago and I had us getting him in my last mock draft.
My rationale? SPEED. Mostert is no longer a spring chicken and has had injury issues over the years. Achane ensures that we keep SPEED on our Offense after we move on from Mostert.
McDaniel almost fell out of his chair when we drafted him. LOL
One thing about Mostert is he’s a year removed from knee surgery. Maybe this is his best season before Father Time comes calling.
I almost fell out of my chair too, man! 🙂
This is off-topic (slow football news day) but it seriously pisses me off. I’m not mandated to recycle, rather I CHOOSE to in order to keep this planet as clean as possible for future generations.
That, coupled with a company memo I received today. The memo stated that our recyclable wood output is being compromised by plastics being attached to as much… that was page 1. Okay, fair enough, right?. But by page 3, it was accidentally revealed by the fucker who wrote the memo it’s the contracted LANDFILL(!) that will no longer accept wood with plastics attached… THE LANDFILL (for wood???)!!! SMMFH 😡
I’m so fuckin’ tired of the lies, y’all!
Cool… me too. What’s the problem?
TRUTH BOMB by George Lucas…
Happy Revenge of the 6th! 😀
The speed we have on offense is ludicrous. LOL
If ya want to keep it Star Wars, cue the Space Balls “LUDICROUS SPEED!” clip! 😀
That’s my reference. LOL
I know, Bro! 😉
Great minds!
Seriously though, we have wicked speed throughout on offense and good speed throughout on defense. The defense is more mature but the offense is the difference maker.
I dunno, Bro. I’d say both our Offense and Defense (under Fangio) are difference-makers. I’m with ya, just sayin’ that WOW(!) does our team look good on both sides of the football.
Meaning the offense scores 30+ points often. If Fangio’s defense is allowing less than 20 we’re a top team.
Time for me to get back into my recent pre-summer regimen: kava, training with a 40-pound steel bow staff (see Darth Maul/Ray Park as it pertains to a bow staff), and just living/eating healthier than during the abysmal winter months of depression here in PA.
Want to get RIPPED pecs? Train with a 40-pound steel bow staff.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iq6-X-L92eI
Alrighty then!!
NFLN is showing the worst game of our season last year, the 40-17 loss to the Jets. That’s the fucking game they have to pick?
Sounds about right
Hope the team is watching
Bridgewater gets knocked out of the gane on the first play, and Skylar Thompson takes his his first career snaps, at our own 2 yard line at Met Life stadium
They were in the game and let it get away. That’s what really sucked about it.
BBM,
There is no way Brock Bowers lasts until 22; he is likely going to be a top ten pick. I would seriously consider trading up for him if he slides into the teens – he is the complete package at TE- he could do it all in this offense!
He’s my favorite prospect in the 2024 class this team
I know! He is my fav right now for next year.
We will be picking later than #22 anyway!!
I hope so!
Brian, looking at the top prospects there are 3-4 really good OT’s, 1-2 IOL, 1 TE, 1-2 RB’s, 5-6 LB or Edge, 2 very good QB’s and maybe 2 others, 1-2 DT’s, and a slew of DB’s again but Safety looking stronger than CB all with 1st round grades.
So, yeah, Bowers will not last past #15 at the most, IMO.
I looked at the next best TE being hyped, Ja’Tavion Sanders from Texas. No thanks. He looks like a pussy trying to block.
The IOL I liked, Cooper Bebee, not sure. He has OT/OG flexibility but doesn’t look that athletic on tape (though only looked at 1 game) to me and lacking on second level blocking. He is a good mauler though.
Next year also looks to be a good RB class again.
It all will come down to how many declare early though.
That’s my thought, 15 at best. Fashanu should be the first OL taken off the board. I know his game very well, being a PSU fan.
I think him then Alt. ND has 2 good OT’s who will be in the next draft. Second one, Fisher, will probably be a second round prospect.
I think Rahiem Sanders from Arkansas may end up being RB#1. he is 6’2, 227 pounds and runs the 40 in the mid 4.4’s. Read an article that he has spent the entire offseason improving his balance and power.
Ryder doing the breakdowns on the UDFA’s now.
I could see him on ST’s and a move to Safety like he said
Who are your breakout players on both sides of the ball? One each.
Offense Achane
Defense Phillips
Ken said,
Offense Eichenburg or Jackson
Defense Iggy
😉
humpht that laugh coughed out painfully. It would be great if one of the THREE had a true breakout and another showed substantial growth to a middling player….
LOL
Alain thinks Iggy will benefit from Fangio the most, since he’s a better zone CB
That video of Achain Tim posted at 9:22 last night is exciting. The guy is right, Achain is not just fast. His vision is elite. Check out the :43 second mark where he ducks down under the defender and is own blocker and “tunnels” to sunlight. He reminds me of my 9olb Pit Duke when he wanted to get out the front door. The was no stopping him. LOL He would hit a 8″ hole at 100 miles an hour and it would open. PERIOD. LOL
I think he is a rare and unique talent. Many fast RB’s but he has so many more elite traits.
I can’t wait to get him on Madden, like the narrator said. LOL
That is a fun 10:40 of highlights
^ Watched it again this morning, lol
He has incredible balance. Watching him it’s like his center of balance hovers about 2.8 feet from the ground and his feet are along for the ride, pitter patter. He wheebles he wobbles but he bounces back to center.
His go step is like a rocket. He hits max speed very quickly.
I’m watching The Wolverine (2003) and the lady blocks his healing power so he’s getting the shit kicked out of him and racking up injuries that won’t heal. But his claws go in and out 20 times and no wounds….. It bugging me. LOL “That’s so fake” (duh)
Got our house reserved for the annual scalloping trip next month in Keaton Beach!!
The big second deck under the house is where we hang, play cornhole and watch the bikini’s come in. We are on the main waterway to the boat ramp. It’s the only public boat ramp in about a 30 mile stretch of coastline on the gulf. It’s a huge boat parade every morning and evening.
The later they come in the drunker they are. 🙂

The floating dock will hold two 24′ boats or 3 smaller boats.
The Achane video was impressive….hmmm
There’s a video out titled Fins about to make a huge trade for Dalvin Cook, since no one else thinks it’s inevitable, I’m calling BS
Started thinking about it and I’m getting close to being all in on it
I mean why not? If , you’re going to be all in, go all in, the cap is already a mess
If we can somehow work Wilson into the trade it might be close to a wash
I don’t think the Vikes will be interested in taking on Ced Wilson’s base of $7M in a trade for Cooks’ base of $10M. They’re trying to create decent cap space, not trying to create mere breathing room.
Love your idea, but I don’t see it happening in terms of Wilson being involved.
I still think we can — if we REALLY want to — make it happen to trade for Cook. We get $10M back on June 1st for cutting Byron Jones… that would put us at roughly $13M under the cap.
Trade the Vikes a 4th in the ’24 Draft and they just may take it to get Cook off the books.
Still need to sign a vet Tackle (Brandon Shell? $2M/year?). That puts us up against the cap very close after signing our rookie class!
I don’t think Jason Sanders will be back with us unless he KILLS IT in camp. That, and I would NOT be surprised if we moved Ced Wilson elsewhere for a future draft pick (late day 3 pick).
Draft picks won’t really count anything against the cap, if I remember correctly uts like 400k net, bring in Shell at 2m is 1m net cap, then Dalvin would have to be signed to a new contract, might count 4m net cap
IT’S ALL OVER IN SUNRISE, FLORIDA!! The Florida Panthers just defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 in overtime to take a 3-0 lead in this Easter Conference semi-final match up.
Just one more win will put the Panthers in the Eastern Conference Finals. The other spot in the Eastern Finals is up for grabs, with Carolina leading New Jersey 2 games to 1. Should Carolina win this series, the Eastern Conference Finals will feature TWO NHL franchises located in the Deep South. Not a big surprise given the fact that the Tampa Bay Lightning have won the Easter Conference Finals the last three consecutive seasons.
I remember when the Atlanta Flames couldn’t draw flies to their home games in the A.T.L. This franchise was moved to Calgary, Alberta and became quite successful. But the critics said “The NHL just won’t work in the Deep South!”
You are wrong, redneck breath!! The Nashville Predators continue to sell-out many of their home contests. The Carolina Hurricanes have won a Stanley Cup!! The Tampa Bay Lightning have gone to the last 3 Stanley Cup Finals, winning TWO of them!!
The Florida Panthers are another story. It is well known that South Florida will NOT support a losing team. The “U” nearly gave up football, until Howard Schnellenberger
put Miami on the map by winning their first national championship in the 1980’s. Likewise, the Panthers drew large crowds when they went to the Stanley Cup Finals in the mid-90’s. They struggled at the gate for most of the last 20+ seasons UNTIL THEY GOT COMPETITIVE last season. Now they are the media darlings in the Ft. Lauderdale-Miami area. South Florida’s response to their impending series win over the Maple Leafs has been overwhelmingly positive. A ticket to a Panthers’ playoff game now is a “Treasured Item!” Every game in the upcoming Panthers-Hurricanes Stanley Cup semi-finals undoubtedly will be a sell-out!!!
End of sermon. I’ve got to get up REAL EARLY tomorrow for yet another physical therapy session. Continued progress will bring these sessions to an end in about another 6-8 weeks. My “trainer’ says he can’t believe a guy in his late ’70’s can keep up this rigorous run of therapy sessions. I say, “You don’t really know me yet. But when you do, you won’t be so surprised at my successes. I am one determined son-of-a-bitch!!!”

Phelon, finally getting the hybrid inshore/offshore boat I’ve been looking for. It’s a 2019 Sea Chaser 26LX by Carolina Skiff. Boat includes Minn Kota trolling motor with auto deploy and stow option. Garmin Live Scope up front. Hummingbird Helix 12 on console. Suzuki 250 Four Stroke with 235 hours and 2 years of warranty left. New battery chargers along with an alternator style charger that charges trolling batteries while big motor is running. The guy was asking 78K but got him down to 65K. It was still above my budget but what the hell.
I didn’t want to go 26′ but this boat is loaded for the serious fisherman! Only thing I have to do is add twin 10′ power poles.
Picking up tomorrow.
Wow…nice boat! You’re going to love the Livescope.
Sweet

Draft picks won’t really count anything against the cap, if I remember correctly uts like 400k net, bring in Shell at 2m is 1m net cap, then Dalvin would have to be signed to a new contract, might count 4m net cap
———-
Bro, you certainly know how this cap management works better than I do since the last CBA. I follow what you’re sayin’ when you ya map it out as ya just did. Props!
YES, we can make it work… and if we truly ARE all about ‘ALL-IN’, I’m with ya on trading for Cook… I believe Tim is as well.
I will ALSO say… if a STUD O-Lineman gets cut after June, we may want to focus our resources in that direction.
We must be patient. We don’t want to repeat what we did last year, signing Ced Wilson before realizing we could trade for the CHEETAH.
just win, baby
Yeah, we have enough weapons, time to execute
Dalvin Cook has 3 years remaining on his contract 11m this year, 12.5 in 2024 and 14.5m in 2025
I was going by 10m that someone here mentioned yesterday, not sure why Grier would want to take on that contract, and maybe he doesn’t and what’s been holding up the trade
2025 is a void year, but 23.5m for an RB is too much
Biggest issue with early 2024 mock drafts is the effect on the salary cap, not knowing what the FO is thinking in terms of what high priced players they want to replace with early draftees
Pretty sure that factored into the Cam Smith selection
With more cap issues next year, there’s no way in hell we’re taking a TE in the 1st
We need to start thinking about Armstead, Chubb, X and the positions the rest of our high priced vets play
Aaron Wilson
@AaronWilson_NFL
#Dolphins signing Alama Uluave to an undrafted deal that includes $65,000 total guaranteed, per a league source
6’2 Center
That’s a big contract for a UDFA,
so they must’ve wanted to outbid other teams for this guy.
#1 draft pick
Miami Dolphins sign former Michigan State Spartans OT Jarrett Horst as an undrafted free agent.
Horst was selected with the first-overall pick by the #Panthers during the #USFL Collegiate Draft in February.
even more money!
Here’s your new NT frontrunner.
@TomPelissero
Apr 29
Former USC DL Brandon Pili is signing with the #Dolphins on a deal that includes $100,00 guaranteed, per his agent @davidcanter
Simon Clancy
Ethan Bonner of Stanford will join his teammate Elijah Higgins on the Dolphins. The big FS, who ran a 4.39 at his pro day, signed an UDFA deal
Dolphins brass attended Stanford’s Pro Day.
Bonner registered the fastest 40-yard dash, the second highest vertical jump, the longest broad jump, and the fastest short shuttle out of all of Stanford’s participants. Bonner is coming off his best season on The Farm, as he recorded 28 total tackles and three tackles for a loss.
He’s 6’1 190
This is the type of guy I’d like to see stick, because of his height and 4.39 speed
The guys I don’t want to see make it are the small and slow intangible guys, that get by with smoke and mirrors
Someone posted one of these intangibles guys last week and hoped they’d stick
Tua is an intangible guy, wouldn’t you rather he be 6’3 and 220lbs
His best season, but all that’s included are his tackles, what about his ball skills, that’s more important, than his tackles for loss, unless he’s an in the box safety, even so we want safeties that can cover some
Matt Zenitz
The Dolphins are set to sign former Kentucky and Ole Miss defensive back Keidron Smith as an undrafted free agent, a source tells @on3sports. Posted 47 tackles and two interceptions for Kentucky last year.
and a new guy
OT James Tunstall
out of Cincinnati
Ogbah 2024 cap hit 17.8 with 4m in dead money
Tyreek will play thru the 2025 season, says his contract
Baker 2024 cap 14.9 with 4.9m in dead
X, Chubb and Armstead don’t see how they get out of these contracts before 2026, as long as they’re playing good, unless they want to June 1st it in 2025
Ramsey could be a scapegoat in 2025, cap 21m with 5m dead, but his contract seems reasonable
In all 7 players with 19m+ 2025 cap hits, then there’s Tua and Wilkins new contracts
Depending on the next several year’s salary caps, which should go up significantly, we might have a 3 year window thru 2025
With Tyreek gone in 2026, but no one else that’s playing well would have to be cut for cap reasons, we could, unless they fuck something up in the future be on a long run
Naples, aren’t these the guys we signed or committed to us right after the draft?
I had not heard of the last three before now.
The first three all seem to be favorites of the FO to stick,
and we really need a backup Center, a backup NT, and help at OT,
and some guys on here rightly have said we’ve not done enough at OL and DL,
so I thought I’d show these guys again,
now that the noise has died down a bit.
These first 3 above might be the best bets to make the 53
or at least the PS
out of the 25 UDFAs.
Just filter them thru and see who bites, and hopefully the guys that have the prototypical size and speed make it
I think this article has been out there for a bit, wanted to comment on it

This pick screams cap-responsible, you want to draft CBs, LTs and DEs early, so you don’t have to sign in FA or trades for Armstead, Chubb or Ramsey
If you draft a TE or OG early, they don’t usually make enough of an impact to justify it
The NE D run by Flores was great, when it confused Goff and other slow processing QBs, but overall it was difficult for young players to learn, slowing their NFL transition, and rough around the edges without 2 very good CBs
The Fangio D is more of a player friendly D, doesn’t use smoke and mirrors, and should be better suited for the players we have
Hoping for a shutdown D
My phone was driving me crazy recently, with the double and triple letters it was typing
Looked it up and found the issue to be the space eaten up by stored data (pictures)
Once I downloaded the pictures to my PC all was well
In general the UDFAs we brought in are vying for a PS spot, if they bite quick they may find a 53 spot, in otherwords developmental guys
Let’s hope we have some coaches, that can actually develop
Most UDFAs are camp bodies needed to run practices and give the first string some easy competition to get the rust off.
Of course the fans hope for a Kader every year. But they are very rare.
To Steve’s point. We need some cheap talent to balance the budget.
I doubt we’ll trade for Dalvin Cook. If he’s released maybe we can work something out. But we don’t really need him. We’ve got a pretty good RB group now.
That’s what most of us think, but Grier has been talking with the Vikings
And better yet, if he’s released his old contract doesn’t apply
Watching Cam play at SC I thought his reaction time was so good, when playing zone, but he’s really good playing man too, as his former coach alludes to here:
In years past, when we were looking to draft a CB I hated all of them I looked at

And that obviously and especially includes the QB position as well. Rookie contracts for expensive positions are the way to go in terms of being cap-responsible.
Yep!
another XFL player is in camp:
Miami has shifted their attention to their rookie minicamp, which will take place May 12-14, as the NFL announced last week.
Rookies, both drafted and undrafted, will have an opportunity to start working on the practice field with their new coaches, but they’re not the only ones.
Teams are also permitted to invite players on a try-out basis, and while they can be rookies, they don’t have to be.
Harvard running back Aidan Borguet, Wyoming offensive lineman Eric Abojei, Duke cornerback Datrone Young, Marshall quarterback Henry Colombi and St. Louis Battlehawk (XFL) defensive end Freedom Akinmoladun are among the names that have received invites.
A second XFL player has received one as well, as the league announced that Houston Roughnecks guard Jack Snyder has been invited to both the Dolphins’ and Ravens’ minicamps.
Snyder was the first overall in the offensive line portion of the 2022 XFL draft after a collegiate career at San Jose State and a brief stint with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent.
During his time with the Spartans, he set a school record for most starts, with a majority coming at left tackle. He earned First-Team All-Mountain West honors in 2020 and Second-Team honors in 2021.
Snyder has experience playing guard and tackle, so there’s a chance that his versatility earns him a contract after a few days of work with the coaches, especially considering Miami’s weakness and injury history at the positions.
Both of those XFL players are pretty good
More talent, more depth….still need to fill holes. Not sure we can still cover our weaknesses. Hopefully, we can. Cautiously optimistic…lol.
The only holes I see are LG and RT needs to be decided.
LG on the roster (so far)
Liam Eichenberg
Lester Cotton
Dan Feeney
Robert Jones
Jack Snyder
DL Scaife
That’s not a hole, although you can say we do not have an all pro there.
I agree it’s not a hole but Krishna is very specific on what a hole is. LOL
RT (on the roster so far)
Austin Jackson (1st round draft pick)
Kion Smith
Geron Christian
Ryan Hayes
Jarret Horst
Alex Jensen
It’s interesting how it works when you have real quality at a position:
There is no backup designated for LT, RG, and only one at Center:
RG
Robert Hunt
LT
Terron Armstead
C
Connor Williams
Alama Uluave
Heat Win!
I’m curious to see if Achane get uses from time to time as a receiver
Why not, he has shown to be a good receiver. You get speed like that on the field as much as you can.
Me too, lined up wide with Hill, Waddle, Chosen and Mostert all sub 4.4
McDaniel wants to overload opponents with speed. It’s obvious.
Tyreek called the Chiefs the Queefs 💨
Throwing shade on the Champs you better back it up
It’s not just the sub 4.4 guys but sub 4.6 throughout the team. We’re building a very fast team. The game is not power these days. It’s about big plays and converting on 3rd down. Very few teams grind opponents with 3 yards and a cloud of dust anymore. McDaniel is building a quick strike offense. The speed never stops.
On defense speed is prominent too but fundamentals like tackling still matter. Our defense is going to go up against our offense every day in practice. You can gear up for physical, but if you can’t match the speed you can’t do anything about it.
Tim…Achane is average as a WR. Yes he makes some great catches but he drops a lot as well. This was mentioned in his draft profile.
So never use him that way?
