Miami Dolphins 2023 Schedule

So now our schedule is out, and as we can see, it won’t be an easy one. We start off the season with back to back road games, the first against the Los Angeles Chargers who were 10-7 last season and narrowly lost to the upstart Jacksonville Jaguars in their playoff game, 31-30. Then off to play our division foe the New England Patriots. We come home to face the Denver Broncos, who were a huge disappointment last season, but you have to think Russell Wilson will bounce back from an awful season with the Broncos. Then we travel to Orchard Park NY to play our nemesis Buffalo Bills. We did finally beat the Bills 21-19 early last season, but then lost the next 2 clashes, including a closely fought playoff matchup with our 3rd string QB Skylar Thompson at the helm 34-31. None of the 3 games between the Dolphins and Bills were decided by more than 3 points. I feel like we have improved our team, it’s not going to be any easier for them.

Our next home game is October 8th when we host the NY Giants. The Giants made the playoffs last year and upset the Minnesota Vikings in their house 31-24, but then got wiped playing in Philadelphia against the SB participant Philadelphia Eagles 38-7. The Giants will struggle some with the heat early in the season in Miami. We then host the Carolina Panthers, and possibly may face the #1 draft pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, QB Bryce Young. We then face off against the NFC’s Suberbowl representative Philadelphia Eagles on October 22nd at Lincoln Financial field. Like I said, tough schedule.

After the Eagles on the road, we come home to play our division rivals for the 2nd time of the season, the New England Patriots on Sunday October 29th. Despite the fact the Patriots looked pretty bad last season, they finished only one game behind us last season. The Patriots drafted one of the best DB’s in this year’s draft, CB Christian Gonzalez. They’ll need all the help they can get! After hosting the patriots we leave the USA to play an international game and Prime Time Matchup against the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs in Frankfurt, Germany. At long last, after the arduous task of traveling out of the country to face the SB Champs, we get our much needed BYE Week in Week 10.

We come out of the BYE Week to host the Las Vegas Raiders, potentially led by former 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo. The Raiders jettisoned Derek Carr and bring in a similarly talented QB, albeit one with a history of injured seasons. We’ll see how that works out. We then travel to New Jersey to play the NY Jets in another Prime Time Matchup, this one a FRIDAY game at MetLife Stadium. We hit the road again to then face the next to last of our NFC East foes, the Washington Commanders. The Commanders nabbed 2 DB’s in the 2023 NFL Draft, back to back, snaring M’s fave Emmanuel Forbes at #16, and then another CB, Jartaviue Martin 31 picks later. They will have a tough task covering against our offense.

We come for a Monday Night Football matchup against the Tennessee Titans. Will we face our old pal Ryan Tannehill, or will the Titans give the reins to rookie draftee Will Levis, who languished at the draft the entire first round surrounded by beautiful women. My heart breaks for the kid, really. The Jets come to visit us to play the rubber match between us just 3 weeks later from our last matchup. We then host our 3rd home game in a row, and the final NFC East opponent, the Dallas Cowboys.

The last 2 games of our 2023 schedule begin on the road again to face the Baltimore Ravens. Why do we seem to play them every season? Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore. Last season’s game was an absolute thriller though, with QB Tua Tagovailoa finishing off one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history, erasing a 21 point 4th QTR deficit to beat the Ravens 42-38. Our regular season finale will be us hosting the Buffalo Bills. As previously stated, we played the Bills very tough last season, even without our 1st or 2nd string QB.My hope is that we close the gap even more this year, and overtake the Bills. I also hope we face both the Ravens and Bills with our #1 QB, Tua Tagovailoa, completing his first 17 game season. Nothing against newly acquired backup Mike White, but I don’t want to see him in a game this season unless we pull Tua because we have a 30 point lead in the 4th QTR. We need our guy to be healthy, and of course the entire team to stay healthy, especially #72, LT Terron Armstead.

Fest deliberations are most likely underway, votes are being tabulated. This could potentially be the biggest Fest ever, I hope we get lots of people to make it this year. Our team is on the precipice of greatness, we’re close. It’s not easy to make that next step into the elite, but with McDaniel and Fangio, I feel like it’s going to happen. I felt like our defense was better than it played, and I still contend that Zero Coverage Blitz scheme wasn’t viable with the cast of characters we had in place. Fangio is not an all or nothing guy like Josh Boyer was. Fangio is more malleable, flexible in his approach, and he’s the opposite of Boyer, he adapts to who we’re playing and who he has to employ against them. Can’t wait for the season, and of course the Fest!

GO DOLPHINS!!!

Dalvin Cook to be released: Let the Miami Dolphins rumors once again begin!
By Brian Miller | 4:14 PM EDT

A new report has Dalvin Cook on the outs in Minnesotta and has been informed that he will be released with a June 1st designation after a trade fell through. The Miami Dolphins will once again be the hot destination.

There have been rumors about Dalvin Cook wanting to play in Miami but Dolphins fans may not want to get their hopes up just yet. Cook is a very good running back, one of the better ones in the league and if he is in fact released, the Dolphins will have plenty of competition for him.

The Dolphins could have had Cook in a trade but now it will come down to who is willing to pay Cook what he thinks he deserves and the Dolphins may not be that team despite the popular opinion that he will be their target.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

So far, Cohen is the only one reporting that Cook has been informed that he will be cut. The Vikings will save $9 million in cap space by releasing him but if they can get a trade done, in the last minutes, they could save as much as $11 million.

Obviously the Dolphins are going to be the hot destination but reality says that isn’t going to be the case, or at least won’t be an easy addition.

The Dolphins like their running backs, especially De’Von Achane, Raheem Mostert, and Jeff Wilson. Cook is going to be expensive and as a result, it is unlikely that Miami parts with Mostert or Wilson and obviously won’t cut Achane.

Can Miami keep Wilson and Mostert to pair with Cook? They could and the salaries of both players are low enough that they could carry the three of them together with the rookie.

If Cook is indeed released, Miami will have a shot at him if they want. He is from South Florida and has made it clear that Miami is his choice according to reports dating back to the start of free agency.

What happens next is anyone’s guess but until Cook is actually released we won’t know where he will end up and we won’t know the domino effect of him joining Miami but we can think about what an offense would like with him and given the Dolphins current offensive skill players, Miami’s offense could be deadly.

2023 Cash Payout: $11,000,000 would’ve been our cap thus year on a trade

Does he think it will cost us more? Which is ridiculous, because no one is paying more or close to 11m

Her can always sign Shell too or some one else

Really all I want is competition on the OL – I still want to see our draftees of the last few years have a chance to compete

Even though guys like Jackson and Eichenberg haven’t shown much on the field yet – they seem up for the challenge. I never hear anything negative from them. I just hear the willingness to contribute

    ——–

Another reason we sign guys like Wynn to 1 year contracts, insurance for this year, but if Jackson or Eichenberg turn the corner, they’ll be the future

  7. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Wow I thought Faulk was a 4.4 guy and Sproles was real fast. They both played fast that’s for sure.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Short guys, that are quick look and play faster, tha their 40 times

Metcalf claims he’s the faster, and he may be correct, but top end speed doesn’t have as much of an impact as quick speed

Achane, like Faulk and Sproles are quick and fast

  8. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I count 15 OL on the current roster. I could see a few more churns before we get down to probably 9.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Let’s hope so, and I’ll go one step further, I guarantee we sign another OL before camp, that is at least as qualified to start as Wynn is

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Why wouldn’t we, we have the money, we’re going for it this year, and the only other position with anything close to a need is backup DT

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

UDFA Brandon Pili is the only DL we have with NT size at 6-3 316 other than Davis.

What I assumed earlier on a post about him not performing well, due to nagging injuries, is at least agreed with here and his PFF grades

I don’t see how Jackson beats him out, but let’s hope Jackson does, because Wynn is more likely to be hurt at some point in the season, than Armstead is and he’d be a great 6 OL for injury purposes and tackle eligible plays

I find it odd none of our draftees are signed. They are barely going to affect our top 51 cap. Probably just Cam Smith and Achane a little. The cutoff for the top 51 is right around 1 mil right now.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Seems to be a by year thing, some years they sign quick, others it’s slow

I’d have to think the team is responsible, whatever their agenda is

Not sure why it matters, when they get signed, as long as it’s before camp

It’s the players safety net at stake, they all sign some type of waiver before doing any on field drills

I’d think, if their contract was signed first and they got hurt they could collect a better settlement, so there’s no rush for the team to sign them early

Whatever is better for the team is better for the cap and us

    Strengths

Gifted athlete with foot quickness and ability to move easily in space
Has feet to slide and meet speed rushers
Easy weight shift to recover against counter moves
    Is a second-level winner
Gets on top of linebackers quickly and
can adjust in space to moving targets
Played in warp-speed offense and is well-conditioned
Keeps feet moving through contact on zone plays and
    sustains blocks until he wins
On gap plays, works to secure inside shoulder and gets defenders turned
Has played both tackle spots and right guard
Has matched up against premier college defensive linemen

Sometimes it’s about fit but Ogbuehi can’t seem to stick with teams very long. We’ll see if he’s a fit with us, the same with Wynn who I think has a better chance.

      • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

        I agree with both ideas.
However, the strong point on both of them is
their run blocking in a zone stretch offense
and being athletic enough to hit moving targets on the second level,
so maybe the McDaniel offense will resurrect their careers.

  25. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I read somewhere that we are so thin in cap money and needed so badly to add some NFL vets at OT that the FO was having to hold off signing the drafted rooks until after the Byron Jones money comes free.

We own the rights to those guys (I think), so we can take our time signing them.

Besides, Grier has been busy working all-nighters on the Dalvin Cook deal (I hope).

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The person that wrote that doesn’t know how the cap works

Signing Cam Smith, last time I checked was only going to cost 300k net off of the cap, Achane next to nothing, and the other 2 won’t make the top 51, so their signing has no impact on the cap

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m not worried about any of that, they have a plan.

  26. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

These two tackles are an upgrade on the backups we had last year.

I wonder why they don’t want Shell back,
who played well in his lengthy stint replacing Jackson.
Does the FO think he’ll be too expensive to resign?

Maybe the coaches just don’t think he’s actually a real fit,
despite what he did for us last year.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I read an article today, I’ll see if I can find the line, that showed Shell being far superior to Wynn in everything but age, but they could have all been cherry picked stats or ratings. I did it’s job and got me riled which is what the author was trying for.

    May 15, 2023 12:00 pm ET

The Miami Dolphins entered 2022 with a defensive backfield advertised as a potential top-tier unit within a unit. On paper, and on the strength of a 2021 season in which the defense helped Miami win eight of their final nine games, 2022 could have been another leap for the group, but last year was a tale of another secondary.

2021 had a defense that was manned by then-head coach Brian Flores, who despite an arduous exit from the team following Week 18, had the blueprint of his “zero-blitz” scheme left with defensive coordinator Josh Boyer.

Even though a new regime of coaches came to Miami in 2022, Boyer was retained through the shuffle. After a sub-par season, he was fired a few days following the Dolphins’ playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. Boyer, of course, had to deal with not only a slew of injuries on his defense, especially in the secondary, but veteran cornerback Byron Jones didn’t play a snap all season due to complications in his recovery from Achilles surgery.

Jones, who was signed in 2020 to play opposite Xavien Howard, arguably didn’t live up to his expectations and will be officially cut on June 1, thus ending the three-year relationship between him and the Dolphins.

Boyer, who was the defensive coordinator with Flores for two seasons, and one last year with Mike McDaniel, is now out, and Jones is gone as well. In, are new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and superstar defensive back Jalen Ramsey, whom the Dolphins traded for in March.

Further adding some pop to the secondary was their 2023 second-round pick, South Carolina’s cornerback Cam Smith. Smith was a surprise selection when his name was written down by general manager Chris Grier and then called by Dolphins’ offensive lineman Terron Armstead, who was guest-calling the selection at the podium in Kansas City back in April.

Despite the initial surprise around Dolphin circles, when thinking about the significance of the Smith pick, it made tremendous sense for a few reasons. Primarily, the additions of Ramsey and Smith add to Howard, and second-year rising star in 2022 undrafted free agent Kader Kohou. Another undrafted free-agent cornerback is also set to return for Miami, that being Nik Needham. Needham and Kohou can be flexible as boundary corners as well as slot defenders.

With last season’s injury woes, a deep secondary is something Miami needs as necessary insurance, as well as thinking long-term, as they have a number of young players within the group to add to Howard and Ramsey.

In fact, all of Miami’s cornerbacks could be considered flexible, outside or inside coverage backs, with the exception of Howard. Even adding to the flexibility and the options for Fangio would be safeties Jevon Holland, DeShon Elliot, and another defensive back returning from a 2022 injury, Brandon Jones.

Jones was a 2020 third-round draft pick out of Texas and, in his first two seasons as a pro, showed promise for Miami. Excelling in 2021 in the pass-rushing element of his game, Jones was the league leader in sacks from a defensive back with five in just his second NFL season.

He had a great 2021 season overall, adding 79 total tackles (six for a loss), 10 quarterback hits, a pair of fumble recoveries, an interception and a forced fumble.

Jones was on pace for a similar season in 2022 before getting injured in Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jones tore his ACL and, prior to that game, recorded a pair of sacks with 49 total tackles and even was improving in his pass coverage, which was an early knock on his overall game.

As a rookie, Jones was getting his NFL secondary sea legs, so to speak, and in his pass coverage duties, he yielded a completion percentage of 80% when targeted against and a 105.2 passer rating. 2021 showed a bit of a coverage improvement, with a similar 81.8% completion percentage and a 95.7 passer rating.

In a bit more than six games last year before getting hurt against the Steelers, Jones trimmed his targeted-against completion percentage to 62.5% and a much-improved 78.0 quarterback rating.

With this improving combination of coverage, and his ready-made ability to blitz, track ball carriers and deliver missile-like hits, Jones could excel in Fangio’s system in a hybrid role that’s prevalent in his systems.

The “Jack” linebacker, which yes, sounds like a name that may be confusing as Jones is a safety, is more a freelancer type who plays inside the box, where Jones specializes.

To play the “Jack” in a 3-4 set, you need to have that pass-rushing ability, and Jones has that nailed, as he’s been sent on 131 blitzes in his 38 games as a Dolphin, about 3.5 per contest.

Enter Fangio, and the potential usage of Jones in this “Jack” role, which in its description is essentially a pass-rusher or run-stopper with coverage abilities, so you get a jack-of-all-trades. Simply put, they’ll play against the run, rush the quarterback and drop back in coverage.

This isn’t a set position for him, yet an area in addition to his traditional safety role which could create an element of intrigue for Jones as a versatile defender with the ability to rotate with other defensive backs and share in the snap counts, thus keeping players fresh and healthier for what could be a long season deep into the winter.

In Fangio’s 3-4 that he’s utilized as Chicago Bears defensive coordinator and Denver Broncos head coach, you can see the outside “Will” or “Sam” linebackers rotating like edge-rushers Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips and Andrew Van Ginkel. While your “Mike” linebackers are more inside or middle defenders such as Jerome Baker and newly-signed free agent David Long.

Jones, being that type of player who has the speed to rush the passer, the strength to shed blockers and hit runners in the backfield, as well as get better in the coverage game, could make him the surprising or hidden chess piece for Fangio.

Most can see or expect players like Ramsey, who could man the defensive back role in a variety of ways as well, to excel, yet Jones has extreme potential to be a valuable component in Fangio’s unit while opening up snap counts and playing time for Miami’s ocean-deep secondary.

In a league where passing is king and quarterback royalty resides in the AFC, a cornucopia of defensive backs isn’t only prudent but needed. Now, with the flexibility of players like Jones playing inside that box within the front seven in certain scenarios and situations, your defensive backfield could in that instance, be a combination of four of Howard, Ramsey, Kohou, Smith, Holland, Needham, Elliott, or even deeper with players in development such as Trill Williams and Verone McKinley III pending the down, distance and area of the field.

The options are nearly endless for Fangio, and the number of players at his disposal with positional versatility could create a deep, ball-hawking unit that would be a far cry from last season’s 24th-ranked scoring defense.

Jones has been reportedly rehabbing ahead of schedule and should be 100% heading into the start of the regular season. With organized team activities, training camp and preseason games still a bit down the road, Jones has plenty of time to get back to full strength and learn a system that could see him as what’s also affectionately called by some football people as a “Joker.”

Ironically, “Joker” is a moniker Dolphins fans have tagged on the young, budding star of what is shaping up as a fearsome defensive unit.

That was a good read. It’s awesome that Jones is ahead of schedule on his recovery. And if X returns to form this year, our secondary should be so ridiculously good.

That in turn should just make out offense that much better practicing against those guys.

I had to take the ‘minimum snap count’ feature at PFF off in order to find where Cedric Ogbuehi graded last season: he graded tied for #76 of all Tackles.

Reminder: Isaiah Wynn graded at #72 last season and Brandon Shell was #49.

I’m not trying to diss the signings of Wynn or Ogbuehi, but realize they both have an uphill battle. They aren’t starting material, but perhaps they stick as backups with a complete return to health, coupled with playing in a system that fits their skill sets.

    https://sports.yahoo.com/absolutely-think-saveable-dolphins-getting-192526633.html

Ogbuehi joins Isaiah Wynn as new offensive tackles on the roster.

In their move from Brandon Shell to Wynn (or far less likely, Ogbuehi) as their 1B right tackle (also known as “competition for Austin Jackson”), the Dolphins are getting younger.

Whether they’re getting better is questionable.

Shell, last season, started 11 games at right tackle and Wynn started seven games in his first season at right tackle before a foot injury prematurely ended his season.

Here’s how Shell and Wynn compared last season:

Overall: Pro Football Focus rated Shell 49th and Wynn 72nd among 81 qualifying tackles. Edge: Shell

Pass blocking: Shell permitted two sacks but 40 pressures in 472 pass blocking chances.

Wynn permitted four sacks and 17 pressures in 229 pass blocking chances.

Edge: Shell, though Shell’s pressure numbers were too high.

Run blocking: PFF rated Shell 14th and Wynn 40th as a run blocker. Edge: Shell.

And yet the Dolphins so far have bypassed re-signing Shell, who had interest in returning and remains unsigned.

Why the Dolphins opted for the 27-year-old Wynn over the 31-year-old Shell isn’t clear.

    I “love” Ogbah…lol…

Dolphins defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah: ‘Fully cleared and I am ready to go”
Miami Dolphins defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah has been medically cleared and is looking forward to the 2023 season.

The Miami Dolphins were crushed by injuries throughout the 2022 season, especially on the defensive side of the ball. While the main focus was on the secondary, where cornerbacks and safeties seemed to be dropping nearly every week, the team lost a huge piece to their pass rush in Week 10 when defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah sustained a torn triceps muscle and was lost for the remainder of the season. On Tuesday, Ogbah met with the media, saying he is ready to return to the field.

“[Recovery]’s going good. They’re taking it easy on me during camp but I’ve been fully cleared and I am ready to go,” the 2016 second-round pick of the Cleveland Browns said to the Miami media. Since joining the Dolphins in 2020, after one season with the Kansas City Chiefs in which he and the team won the Super Bowl, Ogbah had appeared in every game until his injury last year. He led the team with nine sacks in each of the 2020 and in 2021 seasons, playing on both sides of the defensive line.

In 2023, Ogbah is expecting to move all around the defense, playing in multiple positions under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. “Right now, I’m still trying to learn all of the plays, different spots and trying to learn the different schemes that he uses,” Ogbah said of the changes coming to Miami’s defense. “I’m excited for him. He’s a great defensive mind and coach. I’m just excited to do my part to help this team win.”

He continued, “Like I said, I’m still learning this new defense, so I’m going to be pretty much across the whole d-line. So standing, inside, outside, it’s whatever. I’ll be doing whatever.”

The Dolphins are expected to continue to use their base 3-4 scheme, but Fangio’s system is not as blitz-heavy as previous systems. Having a healthy Ogbah to team with defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, defensive end Zach Sieler, linebacker Jaelan Phillips, linebacker Bradley Chubb, and linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel as edge rushers who could be lining up in multiple places could allow the team to limit the blitz packages, adding more players into the coverage or run-stuffing scheme.

“Just learning different schemes that you’re not entirely used to, it just creates a lot of challenges,” Ogbah explained when asked about being responsible to play in multiple positions and with multiple responsibilities. “For the offense, it also creates challenges because they don’t know where I’ll be at. But having to learn multiple positions, it’s a challenge but I’m well-equipped to do it. I’m versatile and it’s a different scheme, so I can adapt quickly on any scheme you present to me.”

Ogbah, Phillips, Wilkins, and Chubb were only able to play one game together last year – Chubb was an in-season trade acquisition for Miami – before Ogbah’s injury. “It’s big,” Ogbah said of being able to get everyone healthy and on the field together. “We’re all obviously a talented bunch. I’m excited. I’m sure Vic (Fangio) is going to draw up some packages that will have us in there. I’m excited about this new defense that we’ve got going. Unfortunately, I know I got hurt last year, so we didn’t get to see all of what we can do on the field together. But it’s a new season and I’m excited about it.”

During the offseason, Ogbah joined the NFL Africa camp, spending a week in Kenya. He said of the trip, “It was an amazing experience. We got a chance to coach up some football talent down there. We had different players from different parts of the continent trying out. We had to teach them how to play football in like two days, then they would go through Combine testing afterwards. It was an amazing experience and how quickly they wanted to learn about the game. They view it as a big opportunity for them and they’re excited just to learn from us players. There were only five of us that were there. It was cool.”

He continued, explaining what he took away from the opportunity, “Just being grateful for the whole experience. Those kids didn’t have much but they still want to listen and learn and take coaching from us. They don’t have football there. Just being able to inspire them, a kid like me – I was born in Nigeria and I came here when I was nine, so they can kind of see similar parts. I was excited just to be there. They absorbed my knowledge and want to learn.”

As for the talent on the African continent and if football could thrive there, Ogbah seemed optimistic that it could and will. “It definitely would. There’s definitely a lot of raw talent,” he stated. “Obviously they didn’t know what they were doing and we had two days to coach them up, which was tough. But they picked it up really quick. I would say this, if you give them just a couple of months just to teach them actual football basics, they would pick it up quick. You’d be surprised how quickly they learn the game of football.”

Ogbah also discussed his upcoming football camp, saying, “I’m excited. I have it every year. I’m excited about it. I talk to the kids, encourage them, talk about my trip to Africa and try to inspire them. Just showing those kids, they don’t have much, but they have more than them. They have football here and those kids don’t have football. So kind of just inspiring them and see how they take it.”

Miami is currently in phase two of their offseason training program, with players able to start getting onto the practice field. The workouts are limited to individual or group instruction and drills, “prefect play” drills, and walk-throughs with the offense and defense lining up against themselves (no offense versus defense work). No live contact is allowed in phase two.

Phase three begins next week and will include Organized Team Activities on May 22-23, May 25, May 30-31, and June 2. All of these events are voluntary ahead of the mandatory minicamp on June 6-8. Ogbah likely will continue to be brought along slowly through the offseason program before ramping him up during the team’s training camp starting in late July.

    Lol…another long one. For Ogbah!

And the prose behind the title…lol…actually interesting

With the 2023 NFL season still months away, everyone is in roster assessment and evaluation mode before the teams do battle on game days

For the Miami Dolphins, general manager Chris Grier has put together an impressive group full of potential Pro Bowl players and up-and-coming stars.

Pro Football Focus recently released their roster rankings for the upcoming season, and the Dolphins were listed at No. 10. Ahead of them were the Los
Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles.

Each team was then given their biggest strength, weakness, an X-Factor, a rookie to watch and the over/under on their win totals.

10. Ahead of them were the Los Angeles Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles.

Each team was then given their biggest strength, weakness, an X-Factor, a rookie to watch and the over/under on their win totals.

    Strength: Wide receiver

“There might not be a better receiving duo in the league than Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Last season, both receivers went over 1,400 yards receiving and at least seven touchdowns while sporting 80.0-plus receiving grades.”

    Weakness: Offensive Line

“The Dolphins’ offensive line was a mess in 2022, earning a combined 59.3 pass-blocking grade as a unit — the fourth-worst mark in the NFL. And they haven’t done much in the offseason to improve upon it. A healthy Terron Armstead should boost that number, but it’s a primary concern heading into 2023.”

    X-Factor: Tua Tagovailoa

“Tua Tagovailoa took a massive leap forward in year three, seeing his passing grade go up from an uninspiring 67.3 to an impressive 81.4 between 2021 and 2022. The problem has been injuries, as he got knocked out of games on multiple occasions, and the Dolphins’ offense suffered mightily as a result.”

    Rookie to watch: De’Von Achane

“The Dolphins made only four picks in the 2023 draft, the most interesting being speedster Devon Achane out of Texas A&M. With two of the fastest receivers in the game on top of a running back who ran a 4.32-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, the Dolphins could turn their games into track meets.”

    Over/Under 9.5 win total: Over

“With a healthy Tua Tagovailoa, this Dolphins team has the roster to make a deep playoff run. However, their quarterback’s health remains the biggest question mark and could also be what keeps them out of the playoffs altogether.”

It’s hard to argue with any of these selections. A case could be made for cornerback to be a bigger strength than wide receiver, as they both have two All-Pro candidates, but, again, it’s close.

Offensive line is the clear weakness with left guard and right tackle being huge questions for 2023. Miami has recently brought in veterans Isaiah Wynn and Cedric Ogbuehi which could help the issue, but for now, it’s still a problem.

The team goes as far as Tagovailoa can take them, and his performance will depend on his health due to the guys in front of him. If he’s on the field, he can help take this team to the postseason and contend.

Achane has a dynamic play-making ability that catches the eye. In an offense that’s full of elite speed, the rookie just adds another option for Tagovailoa and Mike McDaniel.

And, when it comes to the total, we’ve already done a prediction following the schedule release, so we’re on the over train.

I agree….Tua’s health is paramount so I would think protecting your most valuable asset is at the tail end of this whole process…lol

But then, why are pundits picking us to do worse?

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Some of them are going by a gambling perspective, which factors in injuries and other things

Are schedule and AFC are tougher too

    also:

Noticing a weird thing like second year regression by former first year HCs in Miami is interesting, but it is no more than an ugly coincidence.

Even if it happens again, those previous times cannot have contributed to it.

What happened with those other coaches has no
actual effect on what will happen this year.

Gase and Philbin etc. are complete non factors for Miami in 2023.
    Thank God.

Us not having a first round draft pick two years in a row DOES have an effect, and that’s a trend that needs to stop, at least for a while.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Flores excelled in year 2, but couldn’t get much worse than overall year 1

      Gase and Philbin enough said

We’ve gotten immediate contribution from our use of 1st rd picks, so production hasn’t been lacking its the future cap

In 2019 we picked Wilkins his increased production has helped year to year, we won’t have that out of our 22 and 23 1sts, we still will have Tyreek and Chubb playing at high levels thought

I agree though for longevity we need to start making 1st rd selections

On the other hand we’re right there with the % of 1st round bust vs stars going back 5 drafts, we had 5 picks 3 stars and 2 not yet ready for prime time

NO MENTION about our Phins, who of ALL teams, have been destroyed by injuries over the last decade plus. SMH 😡

    • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

I only tip good service because (a) the person went the extra mile and (b) they may remember and give you good service again next time. (Better than them spitting in your drink! 😉) I have to say I am even reluctant to tip on drinks as the wine is usually x2, 3 or even more and soda is a splash of syrup in free water with a bit of CO2. Even beer is a monumental rip off (bottled) but draft (hand-pulled real ale in my case) has a bit more done to it than pasteurised mass-produced garbage.

So you can imagine my reaction to a request for a tip when I get no service. Kiss my arse!

    • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

  92. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    Let’s compare.
    Not judging. Could be regional.
How much do you tip …
    Valet parking guy
    Barber
    Waitress (hot)
    waitress (meh)
Detailer or car wash dry guy
    Shuttle driver at airport
    Masseuse (female … duh)
    Other

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Lol, she always bitches, that I tip the hot ones more

Don’t like valet, $5 on $12 for hair, waitress 20%, don’t use the rest

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

      Valet parking guy – $10-$20
      Barber – $10
Waitress (hot) – usually in the neighborhood of 20-25% for good service, 5-10% for bad service (it takes an extremely bad experience for me not to tip a waitress)
waitress (meh) – same as a hot waitress
Detailer or car wash dry guy – never done it
Shuttle driver at airport – never done it
Masseuse (female … duh) – $25 per person (we usually get couples massages)
Delivery of groceries or things like Target – $10-$20
      Doordash – $10-$12
Bar tender – couple of bucks every drink order, or if on a tab 15% at end of night
