Dolphins fans have a lot to be excited about!!

A lot of things have happened last year, trades bringing in top tier talent like WR Tyreek Hill, DE/OLB Bradley Chubb, a few key FA signings, notably C/OG Connor Williams and LT Terron Armstead. With less than a handful of 2023 NFL Draft picks, the front office once again entered the trade market and acquired a huge piece for our defense, CB/S/LB Jalen Ramsey. There were a few FA signings, LB David Long formerly of the Tennessee Titans, S DeShon Elliott from the Detroit Lions, LB Malik Reed from the Steelers, TE Eric Saubert from the Broncos, WR Braxton Berrios and OG Dan Feeney from the Jets and more recently, we’ve signed a couple of OT’s, former 1st RD picks Isaiah Wynn from the Patriots, and Cedric Ogbuehi from the Jets. Besides player personnel, we also signed one of the defensive minds in the NFL, DC Vic Fangio.

I can’t remember a player added via trade that had an impact like Tyreek Hill. He was better than anyone could have hoped, he completely changed the offense, the game, everything. He’s a dynamic force that even when teams employ multiple personnel to try to contain him, is still able to impact the game. On the downside, Bradley Chubb was less, much less that advertised as a Dolphins defender last season. I think that changes significantly this season with Vic Fangio. I can’t wait to see Phillips and Chubb feast with Fangio running the D. Fangio, no doubt was behind acquiring Jalen Ramsey, who will deployed at multiple positions, but the key here is we have so much depth, with S Brandon Jones returning, and the addition of S DeShon Elliott so that Fangio can move guys around without missing a beat. The NFL is set up for parity, but our depth right now both on offense and defense is the best it’s been in a very long time.

Although we didn’t have a lot of picks in this year’s draft, that doesn’t mean we didn’t add valuable players, quite the contrary. Our first pick, CB Cam Smith will have opportunities to play this season. I can’t say he will be the starter outside Game 1, but I do believe he could be before the end of the season. He was a pick both for now, and definitely for the future. CB Xavien Howard is on the decline, and while he possesses excellent ball skills, we have seen his speed, mostly recovery speed diminish. I love that we re-signed AVG, and added Malik Reed and last year’s first pick (3rd RD pick) Channing Tindall will all be key depth guys to help rush the passer. Our depth is truly impressive, with starters DE Zach Sieler, NT Raekwon Davis and DE Christian Wilkins, and then the LB crew of Jaelan Phillips, David Long, Jerome Baker and Bradley Chubb, CB’s Xavien Howard and Jalen Ramsey, along with safeties Brandon Jones and Jevon Holland. There will be a lot of mixing and matching personnel. Now keep in mind, this is just the defense I’m talking about!

Like I said, having only 4 picks doesn’t mean we didn’t bring in impact players, and I think our second pick, RB De’Von Achane may provide a ton of excitement this season. He will get touches as a return man, both punts and kicks. He will see the field as a RB, and he will be a demon as a receiver out of the backfield. With Hill, Waddle, Berrios, Anderson, Cracraft and even draft pick Elijah Higgins, you simply can’t cover ALL-THAT-SPEED. A-Chain is going to be fun to watch. Now I didn’t mention QB Mike White as one of our FA acquisitions, but let’s face it, we were ridiculously unlucky with our QB’s last season. Tua’s fragility has been well documented, but how many times did our 2nd and 3rd string QB’s get hurt, and a few times in the same game. Mike White also got knocked out of action, but he was tossed around like a rag doll by Buffalo that one game. I expect him, if needed to be better than what we had last season in Teddy Bridgewater and rookie Skylar Thompson. White was impressive when given decent protection, and he played through some tough rib injuries. We all hope Tua remains unscathed the entire season, but I believe if we need Mike White for a game or two, he can deliver.

On special teams, we have new punter, Jake Bailey formerly of the Patriots. K Jason Sanders looks to have a bounce back season. Braxton Berrios, and draftee De’Von Achane will be the return men. With the excellent depth we have on our defense, and offense, our ST’s coverage should be much better than last season with all the injuries. It’s not crazy to expect both our offense and defense to both be top units, certainly top 10 or better. When was the last time you felt this way, and had legitimate conviction about it? So, be excited Dolphins fans, really, be excited! It’s OK, I know somewhere inside there’s that Dolphins Fan Reflex that makes it difficult to get hyped, but we have a very talented team, and I think we have the right coaches to get what we need from the deep roster. GET HYPED!!!

GO DOLPHINS!!!

We need to get Wilkins signed before the season, if we intend on keeping him

If he doesn’t get that new contract and gets say 8 sacks, he’s going to cost us 25m per

I really hate, when they talk about what other DTs got, without the full details, including guaranteed money

The Jets have a really good young back in Breece Hall and some solid depth with Carter and Co., so not sure that’s a fit.
    —————————-
Not to mention they drafted the 5’10, 217 pound RB Israel Abanikanda with 4.41 speed to go with Hall, Carter and Knight. They have a very solid RB room and a solid WR room.

Their offense looks really good on paper.

The melting pot is no more. In today’s America, diversity, difference, and division have become the goal, more valued, subtracting from the end product, making the parts of the melting pot greater than the whole, lessening us all.

We do have immigration laws and Krishna is correct – they are not enforced. They are also outdated and ineffective. And he is also correct that those who employ illegals should be held accountable. If a player decides he also wants to skip the second day of camp, he can be hit with a second fine of $29,550. If that same player decides to skip the third day of minicamp, he can be fined $44,325, and keep in mind, those fines are all separate, which means a player who skips all three days could potentially be fined $88,650.

Going all the way back to when Columbia was made the capital over Charleston, there has been a string attempt to shift power and influence and economic focus away from Charleston. Let’s be charitable and say they did that to better balance the state upcountry versus low country.
They moved the capital so the British navy couldn’t paralyze the South by taking control of Charleston.
They built I-95 to angle away from Charleston to link up timber and paper and tobacco interests between mills in Georgia and NC.
They figured tourists going to Charleston could just use I-26, but that has become like 95 in Miami-Dade, a city street at 50 mph without traffic lights.

On Chosen: Chosen’s been awesome to have around because he’s at a point in his career where he’s experienced a good amount of success but he’s hungry to develop and improve. One of the most coachable guys I’ve been around. He’s open-minded and wants to be better.

On Tua: As we stand right now this dude is everything you look for in a starting QB in terms of his professionalism/how he approaches his job; more importantly he makes others better. That can fall on deaf ears if youre not taking care of your job. Hes really owning the position.

Coach says Jalen Ramsey is as engaged as he can be; says he pushes guys to be the best versions of themselves from X to Jevon Holland to the guys working back from last year’s injuries (Jones and Needham). He’s been everything we hoped and probably more.

On Tua in Y2: Tua in Year 2 of the system, day-to-day observation: year 2 prerequisite is that he, as the QB, he has to have the ownership of what he and everyone else is doing as the facilitator of the offense. He’s checked that box every day…

…It’s been really cool in the year’s time how he’s not only learned the language but is now fluent in it. That opens QBs up to doing some components of the job that’s really hard to try to be the leader of an offense and motivate guys and encourage guys when you need to…

    June 7 practice:

Ingold might be my pick for orange jersey tomorrow. He caught a bunch of balls and looks really smooth in that department. Tua found him short/ intermediate with regularity. Team period where they drove the field – Tua was 4/4 for about 40. Sharp, decisive.

Bethel is having an awesome week – INT off White, has been tight in coverage. Good run fit as the force defender. Coverage as a whole has just been so solid. McD talked bout it, hard to find busts, good relationships in spacing. X blew up a screen and forced/scooped a fumble.

I thought the run defense was largely solid but Wilson and Achane found the second level and had big runs, Achane might’ve gone the distance. Hunt, Jackson, Lamm, Wynn part of the blocks that sprung them from my vantage point. RJones had a 2nd-level block on a nice Brooks run.

I love how you can tell who Waddle is without seeing the number based on how he moves. He took two passes from Tua, one middle, one sideline for huge gains. Daewood Davis made a catch and run for a long TD on a good throw from Thompson over tight coverage.

Davis was ruled down around the 15, two plays later caught a short pass and raced up the sideline for a score. Pretty impressive with the ball in his hands/smooth glider.

Thought Garrett Nelson had another really good day.

Erik Ezukanma caught a bunch of balls.

I like the way Jevon Holland and DeShon Elliot are working together. Rotation, disguise, all that stuff looks sharp and the difference in dealing with the vertical shots compared to a year ago is very noticeable.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

All of that means nothing, unless he can actually play

Is he really an NFL football player or is he something else in disguise?

Like a track star trying to play football

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Someone might breakout in the TE room, but does MM really care?

Most of Gesicki plays last year were from the slot, not many catches from other TEs

We just need one to slip out for an occasional 3rd down to pickup a 1st

With Gesicki gone a real WR or Achane will fill that role, and probably better

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Conner did play football in college as a WR though. It’s not like he’s giving football a try, he’s just transitioning to TE.

  55. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

This statement from Dolphins wire makes no sense

Williams’ roughly $7 million annual cap hit puts him eighth in the league at the position behind Buffalo Bills center Mitch Morse.

With the cap space that Miami recently got from the official release of cornerback Byron Jones on June 1, the team could work on an extension with the center that gives him more money up front in the form of a roster bonus, keeping his cap number lower for any future years.

If you’re going to use cap space from Jones, it wouldn’t come as a roster bonus. Roster bonus would push the money to future years, also the cap from Jones will be pushed to future years, if not spent

In general an extension would create more cap space, so why even mention the Jones money

  56. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I don’t get the Conner Williams issue either, 7m 8th in league, seems fair

I know he wants an extension, but a holdout is stupid

You might holdout, if you were only making 1.5m, but his salary fits his production

He’ll get his extension at some point, not sure why it wasn’t done before the league year started, as we could’ve used the cap space

Is Tua Tagovailoa practicing like he’s an elite QB?
I saw Dan Marino practice as an intern in 1996 and it set a tone for pocket presence from a quarterback. Nobody ever got close to Marino before the ball was out of his hands. Chad Pennington was a magician when it came to converting third downs. If the team needed it, the quarterback with elite accuracy was on the money. Ryan Fitzpatrick would see an open receiver and let it fly, often delivering a big passing play. He played without fear, sometimes to his detriment. Interestingly, Tua Tagovailoa embodies all those traits, and the hope is that he’ll transcend this season and become one of the NFL’s upper-echelon quarterbacks. But that journey starts with practices, which need to continue to be efficient. Tagovailoa needs to be sharp during team periods, converting third downs and scoring touchdowns in red zone work.

The smoke over here in PA is REALLY BAD. We don’t have the orange haze that NYC has, but visibility is very poor and everything is clouded. I’ve had a headache and lightheadedness since 9 AM this morning. Yes, we’ve been under the ‘code red’ warning just as many others are, and by 4 PM this afternoon, we exceeded safe air consumption (301 on the AQI scale).

Nearly everybody here is indoors, all outdoor sports events have been canceled, and it seems like a major bomb went off in relative proximity.

Okay, now I know what’s up. About half an hour north of me (where Prof Lou lives or lived), the AQI hit 370, according to news reports on TV. Our Safety folks thought it was for the entire viewing area… not the case.

  79. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It’s been very smoky here in NJ. Air quality is about 190, not as bad as NY which is about 350. Supposed to start clearing by the weekend. The sun looks like a dark red ball in the sky, it’s always hazy and yellow gray, kinda post apocalyptic

  80. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Major thunderstorms last night when I went to bed , woke up was (still??) a torrential downpour.. backyard was a mud swamp.. but my new window well held up to the challenge .. current 72 F.. first time in two weeks the high was below 90 .. this is more Normal

  81. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Strangest thing I witnessed today…

I walked out to my car in the parking lot to go for lunch. Nearly every single vehicle in the parking lot seemed to have what I would call an LED light on every one of their windshields. I looked up in the sky to see if I could see the sun… I could not, it was far too foggy (yes, I KNOW where the sun should be at that time!).

What I was seeing on the windshields in the parking lot was the reflection of the sun through all the smoke, yet I couldn’t see the sun with my naked eyes… and there were no shadows cast whatsoever.

It felt a lot like the last solar eclipse we had several years back (we didn’t experience a total eclipse in PA as the likes of Arizona, for example).

Now unlike the last solar eclipse of several years back — when ya could hear crickets come to life as though it was nightfall — there was DEAD SILENCE. It was so bloody quiet you could hear a pin drop OUTSIDE. We usually have birds chirping galore, bees buzzing everywhere, and just a general ‘noise of life’ in the air.

Today is one of those days/moments that I’ll truly remember until the day I die… and NOT in a good way, mind you. 😦

  82. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I wonder what this will do to the bee population in the Northeast. Without the pollination that our bees provide, there may be grave consequences… this year and beyond.

We’re already in severe drought conditions, and this just makes it even worse. I feel for the farmers, man. Their yield is going to be poor this year, and as a result, food prices will continue to rise for the rest of the public.
