The case for passing on Cook

If/when Minnesota Vikings RB gets released, the Dolphins should just sit back and read about while drinking their morning coffee, as if it’s just another news story, a story they’re not particularly interested in. Cook is a nice player, but he will be asking for money we don’t have, and frankly, I think the guy we drafted in RD 3, De’Von Achane can provide the playmaking ability Cook would bring. It’s not that Cook isn’t a very good player, he is, but RB isn’t our problem. Mostert, Wilson and Acahane can give you the production that Cook can give you. We’d have to overpay to get Cook, some team who really needs him will do that. It happens every year. I feel that Cook is more duplication, although at a higher level, but Cook is also 28, so you overpay for a 28 year old running back? No thanks!

Raheem Mostert actually averaged more yards per carry (4.9 – 4.4) than Dalvin Cook last season. Over their careers, the disparity is greater in favor of Mostert. Cook is not a grinder, a guy that wears down opposing defenses, he’s a similar type runner to what we have. I know we’re close, but we need cap room to sign our own players like DE’s Christian Wilkins and Zach Sieler. Cook is a luxury we cannot afford. We need to also get more from our draft picks. We barely used our first pick last season, LB Channing Tindall. We spent a 3rd RD pick, once again our 1st pick in the draft, on RB De’Von Achane, and RB is the easiest position to transition to the NFL from college football. This kid is going to be electric, and he will keep both Mostert and Wilson fresh. RB by committee is the NFL way now, so few teams rely on one stud back, and the ones that do usually end up losing them for a spell and then need to change their offensive scheme to be competitive.

Our offense is all about our playmakers on the outside, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and then contributions with whomever makes the roster cuts, Berrios, Wilson, Anderson and Ezukanma. We added a lot of blocking at the TE position, gone is the finesse TE Mike Gesicki, and TE’s Durham Smythe, Eric Saubert, and Naples fave Tyler Kroft are here to block. Not a one of them is a dangerous receiving threat, and Head Coach Mike McDaniel vowed to run the ball more, and we will, but between Mostert, Wilson and A-Chain, you won’t miss Dalvin Cook. Who knows, maybe either Tanner Conner of 6th RD draft pick Elijah Higgins will be the receiving terror similar to what George Kittle provided for McDaniel’s offense with the SF 49ers.

New Dolphins OL coach Butch Barry happy with Austin Jackson’s work

    Mike Masala
    June 17, 2023 1:23 pm ET

Entering the 2023 season, the Miami Dolphins made a change to their coaching staff, replacing Matt Applebaum with Butch Barry after just one season.

The Dolphins are no strangers to shuffling offensive line coaches, as they’ve had seven since the start of the 2016 season.

Barry has experience working with Mike McDaniel, as the two worked together in 2021 in San Francisco.

He’ll be tasked with figuring out the two spots that aren’t currently manned by Terron Armstead, Connor Williams or Robert Hunt. Left guard and right tackle have been sore spots for the Dolphins in recent years, and last year, Liam Eichenberg and Austin Jackson were given those jobs out of camp.

Both dealt with injuries in 2022, with Jackson playing in just two games. While they’ve only been working together for a short time, Barry is already liking what he’s seen from Jackson this offseason.

“He’s been awesome to work with,” Barry said (transcribed by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel). “He really has. He’s been very intentional in everything that we try to do. He’s taking the approach, the process, the standard that we’re trying to go about it and he’s embraced it.

“And look, it’s not going to be perfect. No player plays the perfect game. No player has the perfect practice. But he has intentionality in everything he’s trying to do. And he comes with an emphasis every day. Every day, he has an emphasis on what he wants to get better at, and as a coach that’s all you can ever ask for.”

Jackson has to really show that talent that got him drafted in the first round of the 2020 draft if he wants to earn that starting job again in 2023. He’ll have competition for the role, as Miami signed two former first-round selections in Isaiah Wynn and Cedric Ogbuehi to at least push Jackson if not take the job from him completely.

At least he’s showing the effort now, but he’ll need more than that to be protecting Tua Tagovailoa’s blind side against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1.

  21. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

A few things from that article….

Have we really had 7 OL coaches in 7 years? That’s horrible!

Jackson has competition from 2 other 1st round picks? Is it really competitive or are these JAGs?

Why is Jackson “At least…showing the effort now?” What the fuck happened the 3 previous 3 years? Lol…only now.

It’s a hoax. With all of the surveillance tech we have in the world currently, not one aerial video (or even doorbell camera) captured the ‘vehicle’ or the actual bodies of said ‘aliens’? And all aliens look alike??? 10 feet tall vs 8 feet tall? But they were definitely green or blackish with big black eyes… as the sun seemed to have already set? LOL

Instead, we get a creepy video of something behind a fence that cannot be positively identified. It looked like something out of “The Blair Witch Project”. And it took the cops over an hour to respond, after they, too, saw something happen?!! Ya can’t make this stuff up!

And there’s just NEVER a quality camera around when ya need one in 2023? LOL! 😆

Look… YES, I KNOW there is life outside of our solar system… and some of it may probably be a lot more intelligent than we humans. And if/with that being the case, I don’t think they suck so badly to just randomly fall out of the sky for us to discover on a semi-regular basis. People just LOVE to try to get famous in this social media-driven society.

JMO, not trying poop on anybody’s parade… and I realize this story has gained a LOT of international attention, but there isn’t enough evidence in this case EITHER… too convenient, and it additionally serves as a distraction to other matters that need to be addressed.

Another thing… who in their right mind thinks that ‘aliens’ are roughly the same size as humans (give or take a foot), bi-pedal and walk upright like humans, and have two eyes like humans?

One of the points the guy made was you would think he’d be wanting to raise the level of his game because the team didn’t pick up his 5th year option. Oops! There was no 5th year option for Davis being he was a 2nd round pick.

Louis Riddick is really high on our Dolphins. I saw a video from back before the draft where he was breaking Greenies heart, LOL, and I just saw another today where he picks the Dolphins to win the east.

  31. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

“A team other than the Bengals that can really challenge Kansas City [over the next five years] has to be Miami because they have got firepower on offense,” Riddick said. “They have got a fantastic defense that is going to take a step up.

“I understand every time I bring up Miami’s name, people say ‘Well, Tua [Tagovailoa] can’t stay healthy.’ I get that. I get what his track record is. I would assume this year offensively, they are going to [change a bit] philosophically to the point where the run game — as you saw it last year when it was really dialed up — it was something that could take pressure off Tua. It could slow down opposing pass rushers and help their offensive line.

“If Mike McDaniel emphasizes that, they have got weapons coming out the ears. Defensively, they have a young nucleus of guys who are QB hunters as well as any team in the AFC, or NFC for that matter, who can get after Patrick Mahomes. This team is uniquely positioned to make a run and can start doing it this year. The quarterback position obviously has to be on the field.”

  32. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Can McDaniel think up stuff as the top guy on offense that keeps teams from knocking Hill and Waddle off their patterns at the LOS?

And keep them from mugging those two while in tight coverage?

Because that is what SF did to us that the league copied during the 5-game losing streak.

I think that’s why there was no thought of bringing Sherfield back, because he could not pull coverage off Hill and Waddle.

I think Berrios was brought in to do that and Chosen just fell in our lap.

  33. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Chosen can get open deep on true fly patterns., leaving intermediate space for Hill or Waddle to juke their way open even if it takes them another sec to get off press.

And OMG they stole Achane while nobody was looking.

Fresh legs built low to leak out onto the flat and turn a 1-yard catch into money.

  38. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The way we constructed our Edge position this year is obviously based on Phillips and Chubb doing most of the work. But I see Ogbah getting some snaps there along with AVG and Reed. We’ll see how the two UDFA Edge guys pan out. We do have good talent and depth on the Edge.

The reason I like Ogbah so much is he can play some Edge, 3-4 DE and inside on obvious passing downs. Get your best pass rushers on the field in those situations. He also has a knack for batting down passes.

    Poupart’s Dolphins 53-Man Roster Projection 1.0

The Dolphins will have especially tough decisions to make at wide receiver and cornerback

    ALAIN POUPART11 HOURS AGO

The Miami Dolphins have assembled a quality roster over the past couple of seasons, one that many consider among the best in the NFL.

Along with the high-end talent they’ve brought in — like Tyreek Hill, Terron Armstead and Jalen Ramsey, to name three players — the team also has developed better depth than in recent history.

While that’s going to help win games in the fall, it’s going to make for some tough choices and decisions for GM Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel this summer.

That’s especially true at positions like wide receiver and cornerback, where the team appears to have more NFL-caliber players than roster spots available.

  40. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    DOLPHINS QUARTERBACKS (3)
On the 53: Tua Tagovailoa, Mike White, Skylar Thompson

    Off: James Blackman (R)

Analysis: There’s not a whole lot to examine here because the Dolphins kept three QBs on the active roster last season and the new emergency QB rule stipulates that third game-day QB has to be on the 53. So there you go.

  41. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    DOLPHINS RUNNING BACKS (4)
On the 53: Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., Devon Achane (R), Salvon Ahmed

Off: Myles Gaskin, Chris Brooks (R)

Analysis: The only question here is whether the Dolphins would go ahead and keep only three, with the idea of putting Ahmed on the practice squad if he cleared waivers. Outside of that, it was pretty clear that Ahmed passed Gaskin last season even though it was the latter who led the team in rushing in 2020 and 2021.

  42. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Don’t really know about this one…

    DOLPHINS WIDE RECEIVERS (6)
On the 53: Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Braxton Berrios, Robbie Chosen, Cedrick Wilson Jr., Erik Ezukanma

Off: River Cracraft, Braylon Sanders, Freddie Swain, Chris Coleman (R), Daewood Davis (R)

Analysis: Wilson is the X-factor here because he likely wouldn’t be on the 53-man roster if not for the fact he’s guaranteed $5 million in 2023. Cracraft worked his way onto the active roster last year after starting off on the practice squad and he’s a player that McDaniel clearly likes. Ezukanma perhaps could be in trouble if he doesn’t show his coaches clear signs of development, though getting rid of second-year player on their rookie contract isn’t a great way to build a sustainable winner.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

If Wilson isn’t going to play, what’s the point of keeping him? Paying someone to take a spot away from someone who can and will.

I liked Cracraft last year….he balled

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

And EZ should be cut if can’t contribute this year….again, if you can’t produce, you’re taking up space from those that will.

  43. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    DOLPHINS TIGHT ENDS/FULLBACKS (4)
On the 53: Fullback Alec Ingold, Durham Smythe, Eric Saubert, Elijah Higgins (R)

Off: Tanner Conner, Tyler Kroft, Julian Hill (R); fullback John Lovett

Analysis: The first thing to note about this group is that the Dolphins kept an unusually high number of tight ends at the start of last season with five — Smythe, Conner, Mike Gesicki, Cethan Carter and Hunter Long. That’s not going to happen again. We could see a fourth tight end being kept here, and it could be Conner or Kroft, but we’re thinking the higher likelihood is having two or three tight ends on the practice squad.

  44. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    Yikes…

    DOLPHINS OFFENSIVE LINEMEN (8)
On the 53: Terron Armstead, Connor Williams, Austin Jackson, Robert Hunt, Liam Eichenberg, Isaiah Wynn, Robert Jones, Dan Feeney

Off: Kendall Lamm, Geron Christian, Cedric Ogbuehi, Kion Smith, Ryan Hayes (R), James Tunstall, Lester Cotton, Alama Uluave (R)

Analysis: The Dolphins had eight offensive linemen on the 53 pretty much all of 2023 and kept bringing guys up from the practice squad to fill in for injuries, and we could see a repeat here. This actually looks like a fairly straightforward decision here, though Ogbuehi could make a push for a roster spot. Hayes looked a bit overmatched in the spring practices open to the media and looked like somebody headed for the practice squad.

  45. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Here’s Omar’s 53 man roster projection

Take a look at Omar Kelly’s way-too-early projections of the Dolphins’ 53-man roster.
    DOLPHINS QUARTERBACKS (3)

On: Tua Tagovailoa, Mike White, Skyar Thompson

    Off: James Blackman (R)

The Dolphins benefit from keeping three, especially when factoring in Tagovailoa’s injury history. There’s no guarantee White beats out Thompson. Expect that to be one of camp’s best position battles. Miami needs to investigate what’s on other rosters to find a quarterback for the practice squad unless Blackman starts to impress.
    DOLPHINS RUNNING BACKS (4)

On: Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, Devon Achane (R), Salvon Ahmed

Off: Myles Gaskin, Chris Brooks (R)

Mostert, Wilson, Achane and Ahmed are keepers because they collectively diversify this backfield with the skillset to do everything. Gaskin could possibly be stashed on the practice squad if Miami can’t find someone better/younger on the waiver wire.
    DOLPHINS WIDE RECEIVERS (6)

On: Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Braxton Berrios, Robbie Chosen, Cedrick Wilson Jr., Erik Ezukanma

Off: River Cracraft, Braylon Sanders, Freddie Swain, Chris Coleman (R), Daewood Davis (R)

Hill and Waddle are the two players Miami’s offense is built around, and Chosen and Ezukanma infuse size into the receiving corp. Berrios is a blossoming slot receiver and established punt returner, so he’s safe. The $5 million Wilson is guaranteed in 2023 keeps him on the roster unless the Dolphins find a team willing to trade for him. Cracraft and Sanders are the practice squad favorites unless someone like Davis, who practiced well during minicamp, blooms into a playmaker.
    DOLPHINS TIGHT ENDS/FULLBACKS (5)

On: Fullback Alec Ingold, Durham Smythe, Eric Saubert, Tyler Kroft, Elijah Higgins (R)

Off: Tanner Conner, Julian Hill (R); fullback John Lovett

Ingold and Smythe are the only locks in this group. Everyone else is jockeying for the remaining three spots on the 53-man roster. Saubert and Kroft need to establish themselves as adequate blockers, respectable red zone targets, and special teams contributors. And Higgins and Conner are battling to become a seam threat weapon, a big slot receiver. Higgins’ status as a sixth-round pick gives him an edge over Conner, but his far superior understanding of the offense could make him a legit challenger to extend his stay on the 53-man roster.
    DOLPHINS OFFENSIVE LINEMEN (9)

On: Terron Armstead, Connor Williams, Austin Jackson, Robert Hunt, Liam Eichenberg, Isaiah Wynn, Robert Jones, Dan Feeney, Cedric Ogbuehi

Off: Kendall Lamm, Geron Christian, Kion Smith, Ryan Hayes (R), James Tunstall, Lester Cotton, Alama Uluave (R)

Considering how ravished this unit was by injuries last season don’t be surprised when nine or 10 offensive linemen make the Dolphins’ initial 53-man roster. But to keep that many players on the fringe would need to prove they’re a keeper. At this point, without seeing how players perform with pads on, it’s impossible to say who is who, and what they can achieve so this list might change after the second preseason game. At this time Ogbuehi is one of the last player’s on my 53 man roster projection and it’s his experience that gives him the spot.
    DOLPHINS EDGE PLAYERS (5)

On: Emmanuel Ogbah, Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, Malik Reed, Andrew Van Ginkel

Off: Cameron Goode, Garrett Nelson (R), Mitchell Agude (R)

This unit will likely determine how forceful the Dolphins defense can be in 2023 because even the best secondaries can’t cover all day long. They need the pass rushers to speed up the quarterback’s timing and get him out of a rhythm. Ogbah, Phillips and Chubb each have the potential to deliver double-digit sacks. Van Ginkel and Reed have the versatility to help in other areas, including special teams. Goode, Nelson and Agude are all realistically battling for practice squad spots.
    DOLPHINS DEFENSIVE TACKLES (4)

On: Christian Wilkins, Raekwon Davis, Zach Sieler, Brandon Pili (R)

Off: Josiah Bronson, Jaylen Twyman, Anthony Montalvo (R), Randy Charlton (R)

This group is relatively thin when it comes to experience, but the Dolphins made it work most of last season with the trio of Wilkins, Davis and Sieler. Miami needs one more player to step up in this unit to fortify depth. Pili has the best shot to do it because of his size, which hints he could be a nose tackle if given time to develop. But Miami could sign a veteran free agent like Akiem Hicks, who excelled in the past playing for Vic Fangio, or rummage through the waiver wire come late August looking for depth.
    DOLPHINS INSIDE LINEBACKERS (4)

On: Jerome Baker, David Long Jr., Duke Riley, Channing Tindall

Off: Aubrey Miller (R), Zeke Vandenburgh (R)

I’ve got issues with the depth in this unit, and don’t intend on hiding it. What happens if Baker or Long go down with an injury? Are you comfortable with Riley as a full-fledged starter? Is Tindall ready to contribute? Miller and Vanderburgh could blossom in camp when pads come on, but that’s a lot to ask of two undrafted rookies. Miami needs one more veteran inside linebacker to fortify this unit’s depth.
    DOLPHINS CORNERBACKS (7)

On: Xavien Howard, Jalen Ramsey, Kader Kohou, Nik Needham, Cam Smith (R), Noah Igbinoghene, Keion Crossen

Off: Justin Bethel, Tino Ellis, Bryce Thompson, Ethan Bonner (R)

It would benefit Miami to start camp with Needham on the Physically Unable to Perform list because he’ll be 10 months into rehabilitating his Achilles injury when August arrives. Placing him on the PUP list gives Miami roster flexibility and doesn’t rush him onto the field. Igbinoghene edges out Crossen and the others because $1.6 million of his $2.1 million salary for 2023 is fully guaranteed. Releasing Crossen would clear $3.1 million in cap space so he better be a head buster on special teams to earn his spot.
    DOLPHINS SAFETIES (5)

On: Jevon Holland, Brandon Jones, DeShon Elliott, Trill Williams, Elijah Campbell

Off: Verone McKinley, Bennett Williams (R), Keidron Smith

Much like Needham, it would benefit the Dolphins to have Jones and Trill Williams, who are each rehabilitating knee injuries, begin training camp on the PUP list because it buys them extra time to overcome their injuries, and creates an extra roster space. But the Dolphins do need to see how well Trill Williams transitions to safety after spending his first two seasons as a cornerback. Campbell will be one of the harder 53-man roster decisions to make because he’s a valuable special teams contributor. He’ll need to excel as a defender to extend his South Florida stay.
    DOLPHINS SPECIAL TEAMS (3)

On: K Jason Sanders, P Jake Bailey, LS Blake Ferguson

    Off: P Michael Turk

The Dolphins decided to keep Sanders despite his struggles (made 26 of 32 field goals attempted, and 41 of 44 extra points) last season, mainly because $2.5 million of Sanders’ 2023 salary is guaranteed. But he’ll be competing against the field, so he can’t struggle during the preseason. And Miami guaranteed all of Bailey’s $1.1 million contract, which means Turk, who averaged 47.2 yards per punt during his college career, would have to drastically outperform Bailey to unseat him.

If the goal is to make a roster and get some portion of a season’s wages, then by all means carry on

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

yeah, it is unfair to the player, who doesn’t have a choice in the matter. Just cause an upheaval in their lives, make them move (and maybe their families, or make them live apart!) so that a team can get a two week look at them only to cut them and leave them unemployed.

It must be stressful for practice squad guys!

LOL, I hear ya! I don’t mind unique names so much as it’s not a task to pronounce or spell the name. However, when said unique name is trying to make a statement, NO… I don’t care for that.

And so in recent years, grown folks have decided to change their names into something ‘woke’ or otherwise. ‘Chosen’ reeks of arrogance to me, as if Robbie Anderson is the self-proclaimed ‘chosen one’. I already don’t like him for that reason alone.

Ron Artest comes to mind when he changed his name to ‘Metta World Peace’… WTF was that? Snoop Dogg changed his name to ‘Snoop Lion’. Sean Combs changed his name from Puffy, to P-Ditty, to something else… I’ve called him ‘Silly Shit’ since day 1.

And there are so many examples of this over the years, and we’re talking LEGAL changing of names. It’s just ridiculous, IMO.

The worst name I ever saw (in an article, I didn’t see it personally)- Abcde. It was pronounced Abyssidy, which I think is actually kind of cool…in pronunciation.

The problem in the article was the mother of the child getting all pissed off and creating a ruckus with some customer service rep because they didn’t know how to pronounce it, and of course, mangled it. I’d have told that lady to f^ck right off and get used to it if you’re going to name your child something moronic like Abcde.

The news said last night that the Canadians had herd underwater noises in the search area that lead them to believe that as of yesterday they might still be alive but that the air would run out sometime yesterday. My uneducated guess is they lost power somehow and that was it.

They have been running the tour in that sub for a while now with no terrible incidents.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

the search area is the size of the state of Connecticut. It would be floating near the surface (mostly underwater) or it could be on the bottom. That is a lot of area to search to find a 20 x 8′ object.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Quite correct, but still possible to find via modern tech. By the same token, repeated exposure to 13,000 feet of pressure likely compromised the integrity of the sub over time.

Ranking NFL 2023 ‘Triplets,’ Part II: Jaguars lead teams in middle of pack; QB situation doesn’t affect 49ers
Several AFC contenders lead the way in the middle tiers

    By Jared Dubin

Just as we did last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that and the year before that, the crew here at CBSSports.com recently set out to rank each NFL team’s “triplets.” Why not, right? It’s the middle of the offseason, and it’s an offseason tradition around these parts.

So in the space below, we’re once again counting down the NFL’s best QB-RB-WR/TE trios, grading the expected starters at quarterback and running back and their presumed top pass-catcher for the 2023 NFL season. For some teams, it was obvious who would fill each role. For others, less so. Where we had to make judgment calls on which player would start at quarterback or who would be the top target, we did.

In the space below, you’ll see our rankings of these triplets. The first number in parentheses is the team’s average ranking based on the votes of several of our staff writers and editors at CBSSports.com, while the second number reflects the high and low end of where our staffers ranked that individual team.

For example, our No. 13 team — the Seattle Seahawks — had an average ranking of 14.3, with a high ranking of 10 and a low of 23. We have denoted tier breaks in any place where the difference between the average ranking of one team and another exceeded 2.0. For example, the aforementioned Seahawks had an average ranking of 14.3 and the Vikings had an average of 11.9, so the Vikings begin a new tier.

The panel included myself, John Breech, Jeff Kerr, Tyler Sullivan, Jordan Dajani, Cody Benjamin, Shanna McCarriston, Chris Trapasso, Kevin Steimle, Brett Anderson, Garrett Podell, Joel Magaraci, Kyle Stackpole, R.J. White, Eric Kernish and Eric Kay. The rankings reflect the collective wisdom of this crowd, while the corresponding analysis is mine.

We began this exercise on Tuesday with the bottom third of the league. We continue Wednesday with the middle of the pack, and we’ll finish up Thursday with the top tiers. Without further ado …[I skipped 20-13 because I didn’t really care…lol]

Tier 4: Very Good, Maybe Not (Yet) Great
    12. Minnesota Vikings (Avg: 11.9, High: 9, Low: 15)
    Last year: 15th

QB: Kirk Cousins RB: Alexander Mattison WR: Justin Jefferson

Jefferson currently holds the crown as the best receiver in the league, but Cousins is basically the epitome of a league-average quarterback and we’ve only seen Mattison act as the lead back a few times in his career so it’s fair to have some questions about how he’ll fare in that role full time. A ranking just outside the top 10 seems about right.

    11. San Francisco 49ers (Avg: 10.0, High: 5, Low: 18)
    Last year: 13th

QB: ??? RB: Christian McCaffrey WR: Deebo Samuel

Do you have any idea who will be playing quarterback for the 49ers in Week 1? We don’t. And it didn’t much matter here. Brock Purdy is still recovering from his elbow surgery. Trey Lance is working his way back from a broken ankle. Sam Darnold might actually have to take some snaps! But CMC and Deebo are so good (and Kyle Shanahan’s so good at establishing a high floor for quarterback play) that the Niners checked in just outside the top 10 anyway.

    10. Miami Dolphins (Avg: 9.9, High: 3, Low: 13)
    Last year: 18th

QB: Tua Tagovailoa RB: Raheem Mostert WR: Tyreek Hill

With the exception of a stray vote at No. 3, every other panelist placed the Dolphins between No. 8 and 13. That seems like the appropriate range for this group given the heights Tagovailoa achieved as a passer last year and the inherent risks involved with him as a player at this point. Hill showing what he did outside of Kansas City last season was pretty outrageous, and at least somewhat unexpected. Mostert will likely share work with Jeff Wilson Jr. and Devon Achane, and we didn’t really know which direction to lean with the choice at running back here.

    9. New York Jets (Avg: 9.1, High: 7, Low: 13)
    Last year: 27th

QB: Aaron Rodgers RB: Breece Hall WR: Garrett Wilson

Trill Williams cleared from torn ACL ahead of Dolphins camp
Posted by Josh Alper on June 21, 2023, 7:13 AM EDT

Cornerback Trill Williams‘ bid to make the Dolphins last summer ended when he tore his ACL during a preseason game, but it looks like this summer’s bid is set to hit the ground running when training camp opens.

Williams recently took part in teammate Xavien Howard‘s charity softball game and gave an update on his recovery from last year’s season-ending injury.

“I feel fantastic,” Williams said, via Mike Masala of USAToday.com. “I got cleared towards the end of OTAs, and I’m just ready to go back out there and compete and prove to myself and show coaches and everybody else what I can do and what my ability [is].”

Williams made one appearance for the Dolphins in 2021 and will be trying to make it in a cornerback group that added Jalen Ramsey and second-round pick Cam Smith this offseason.

    Hey, Krishna,

While still growing up in the late 80s, we used to call it a ‘Tri-Force”, in a nod to playing “The Legend of Zelda”: QB, WR, and RB.

Anyway, I think CBSSports has us highly underrated @ #10. Yeah, we may have a RB-by-committee going on with us Phins, but I’d put us in the top-5… IF our O-Line is up to the task.

Now if we acquire Dalvin Cook, these CBS pundits would probably have us in the top-5. But again, it comes down to our O-Line… even with Cook.

  82. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

IIRC, when Dalvin Cook entered the NFL Draft, my only concern with him was his very violent running style… I wasn’t sure if he’d have a long career running in that fashion.

Nevertheless, he’s a CLASSIC 1-cut runner who has had MAJOR success. The ZBS (Zone Blocking Scheme) was made for RBs like Dalvin Cook.

If we sign him, I’m going to be over the moon! If we’d rather use our money to re-sign/re-up Christian Wilkins, I’m going to be over the moon!

Anyway, just look at Dalvin Cook’s Vikings highlights. You’ll never catch him dancing like Ronnie Brown in the backfield. 1-cut, and he’s GONE! IF our O-Line can get it together, I think it would be difficult to pass on Cook…

The report, per the Sun-Sentinel, states that the alleged victim — a marina worker — noticed two women sitting on a charter fishing boat without permission.

Upon asking them to get off the boat, an argument between staff and the women and men accompanying them ensued. At some point, Hill struck the victim with an open hand as someone tried to pull him away from the drama.

Hill has been accused of striking the worker in the back of the neck.
