It appears as if the Dolphins avoided a major disaster, losing LT Terron Armstead for an extended period of time after getting injured in practice, his first snap actually. Armstead left the field barely putting on any weight on the leg that was injured, but he says he’ll be ready for game #1, and there is no major injury requiring surgery. Now that we got that out of the way, there are a few things I want to see in preseason. Most importantly, NO MORE INJURIES!!! I would like to see CB Cam Smith continue to get important reps and show he’s serious about getting plenty of reps in the regular season. Backup QB’s Mike White and Skylar Thompson just have to do better. We know neither of them are going to run this offense as crisply and effectively as Tua, but we need them to be competent enough to put points on the board. I’m really hoping we see better play from both of these guys.
I would really like to see RB Chris Brooks get more carries, and see if we may possibly have something there. He’s not the prototype “big back” like Tennessee’s Derrick Henry, but compared to the stable of RB’s we have here in Miami, Brooks looks huge! I feel like all our RB’s are so close in running style and especially stature, that it would be nice to have a big back like Brooks make the team. Brooks is 6′ 223, while the lot of Mostert (5’10 205), Wilson (6′ 210), Ahmed (5’11 197), Gaskin (5’10 199) and Achane (5’9 188) are all very similar size wise. Yes, we have FB Alec Ingold who’s a load at 6’1 240, but Ingold has only 21 carries in 4 years in the NFL for a reason. Of course, the 4 best guys will make the team, this much I get, but I hope Brooks shows enough to be viewed as a possibilty to make the roster.
I’m curious to see more of LG Lester Cotton. He was great in practice, he had some very dominant reps, so I would love to see that dominance in game play, even if it’s a preseason game. It doesn’t matter what round you were drafted in on the O-line, if you can move people, you’re going to get noticed. Would I love Liam Eichenberg to play like the guy we hoped he could be when we moved up in the 2nd RD of the 2021 NFL at pick #42 to get him, of course, but at this point, I just want someone competent, and hungry for the job. If it’s Lester Cotton, who is actually 3rd string at RG, or Isaiah Wynn who is a veteran as well, I don’t care as long as they play well.
The competition at DT is pretty intense with DT’s Brandon Pili and Jaylen Twyman, Most importantly though, we need to get through the negotiations and sign DT/DE Christian Wilkins to a long term deal and keep him in Miami for another 6 years. He’s been an exemplary player, hard worker who brings it every week. Once Wilkins is signed the next up should be DT/DE Zach Sieler. There are some good battles at LB as well, with guys like Mitchell Agude, Mike Rose, and Aubrey Miller. It’s no given that last year’s 2nd RD pick LB Channing Tindall is a lock to make the roster, how these guys play on special teams could be the key to making the 53. BTW, the pronounced demise of the Mac was a bit premature. It’s slow, and uncooperative at times, and I do need to get a new one, but this article was written on the Mac, so LONG LIVE THE MAC!
GO DOLPHINS!!!

Hey, Stanger, the Kongs, unfortunately, aren’t going to make it this year. It’s been a hectic summer and will be an even busier fall. Hope you are doing well!!
Too bad.
How are you and enjoying Justified?
I’ve only watched half the episodes so far, and it is very meh.
His daughter’s voice grates, he hasn’t used his sidearm once, the big bad guy is a goofball, and I really don’t like or care about any other characters except for the one gung ho cop who is pretty funny. Raylan is still cool, but all the rest kinda sucks.
Yeah, that’s about my take as well.
I’m doing well, nothing serious happening, just got a lot of family stuff we’re dealing with, and I’ve kind of reinvented my daily life to spend less time in front of a screen.
Never trust an Ape. 🙂
ShoheiOhtani with a torn
UCL. That’s just BRUTAL
Yeah really bad timing for him to.
Hey Manitoba
When you get the chance can you send a fantasy invite to my email address
I’m having problem logging in the site
Will get to you by this evening sir
I didn’t read the article but I think Jackson is correct in what the heading suggests
No, our RB room is good enough we ABSOLUTELY UNEQUIVOCALLY DO NOT NEED TO PAY A RUNNING BACK $10-12M. (as much as our entire room!) No no no no no no no.
He is NOT that special. Don’t throw stats at me. They guy has way too many miles on his wheels as it is. Barry is WRONG again.
MAN! The Doggy family and the Kong family are both out!? That sucks. Love seeing you guys.
Sounds like it’s just a gathering of humans this time around…lol

I would trade Ogbah and a 4th for Taylor. Save $15M off the cap this year, add whatever you pay Taylor
*****
I think that’s fair
And the colts should be eager to acquire a pass rusher
But I do love having pass rusher after pass rusher to throw in the rotation and I think a ogbah does that for us
I wonder if we can skip the 4th and just add Cedric Wilson or Jeff Wilson Jr
Ogbah + the Wilson of your choice for Taylor
That’s fair and gives us some cap relief while we take on Taylor’s salary expectations
Get the papers
Get the papers
The 49ers have a shot of going down as making one of the worst trades in history
This is Herschel Walker territory
I thought Trey Lance had so much potential last year
He just got beat out by Sam Darnold…
And that doesn’t even factor in that the 12th pick became Micah Parsons
The 49ers gave us the 12th
We traded it to the eagles
Eagles traded it to cowboys
And then we got Waddle, Hill and Chubb
The eagles got devontae Smith
And then the bears got Justin Fields
The 49ers could have moved up a slot and taken Fields with very little compensation
Pitts hasn’t done squat but to pass up on all that other talent when you already had Jimmy G running your offense efficiently.
There seems to be some sort of evidence that the Dolphins want to improve the RB room
Real quick touch and go on the debate last night. Know who won? Donald Trump, both figuratively and literally. More people watched Trump and Tucker last night than did the RNC debate.
I think Vivek came out the winner in the debate, but that’s just me.
I want to go on the record as saying we do not need Johnathan Taylor, but I feel Chris Grier is very, very serious about trading for him, and for the same reasons I stated a couple of months ago when we were pursuing Dalvin Cook.
If Tua goes down, we could at least rely on a 3-headed monster of a rushing game and elite Defense under Vic Fangio. Yes, I think Barry Jackson has been reading me.
IF we’re pushing all of our chips to the middle of the table to win the Super Bowl this year (before Steve Ross calls it quits as our owner), I would not be surprised to see us trade for Taylor.
Well we were interested in Cook and reportedly we looked into trading for Jacobs, and now Taylor. So it does seem we’re trying to load up on as much talent as we can based on who’s available.
Here’s an interesting thought (at least it interested me), what if they traded for Taylor and just let him play out his current contract? Clear some cap space, pick up a piece that could help this year?
He will demand a restructure before agreeing to a trade. (or will hold out if he is traded anyway) and then we are stuck with no running back and no draft pick(s)
I SWEAR IF GRIEF DOES THIS I WILL KICK IN HIS FUCKING OFFICE DOOR
We signed LB A.J. Johnson formerly of the Broncos when Fangio was HC. He played for Seattle last year. Below is a link that explains more about the ugly start to his career and why he went undrafted in 2015.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._J._Johnson_(linebacker)
Fucking trady pants just thows draft picks in the garbage on a regular basis and people still think he is a good GM.
Do you think we have a good roster and a team that can compete for a championship?
I don’t think a running back will make the difference. (but no if you just want a straight answer)
Okay fair enough. I think we do and that’s what a GMs job is, to add talent. Then it’s up to the coaches and players.
Let me put this down so we can revisit this at a later date. If Trump is the nominee for the GOP, Biden will be a two term President. That’s a sad situation!
which will probably mean a President Harris. 😲😲😲
PLEASE primary a good candidate!
Please lord NO, but you’re not wrong!!
Harris would be worse than Biden because she’s not senile but she’s an idiot who can’t answer questions honestly without cackling like a child.
I love Rock getting angry about a trade that hasn’t happened yet. 😂
No Doggies??? No Apes??? No Pigs???
Animal Control???
I’m super disappointed.
I thought I’d get to meet everyone. 😢
What Barry is to stupid to consider is that the team is $34M over the cap next year and the following guys are not even considered in that amount over the cap!!!! We are in CAP HELL and no one is talking about it!
Jerome Baker
Connor Williams
Christian Wilkins
Zach Sieler
Braxton Barrios
Alec Ingold
Andre Van Ginkel
Robert Hunt
Nik Needhamn
Deshon Elliott
Eli Apple
Raekwan Davis
Robbie Anderson
Kendall Lamm
Brandon Jones
(plus 22 other player currently on the roster who are key backups or get a lot of playing time)
They’re all part of the salary cap. That’s the problem when you have lots of talent, guys have to get paid. But you know not everyone will be back and the NFL is a turnstile. Make a run at a championship and then regroup with more youth and some core guys. That’s how this league works.
No Tim they are free agents and do NOT apply to the cap. That is my point. THESE ARE OUR YOUNG GUYS
So they’re all playing for free this year?
He manned up…
That’s how you apologize. Well done, Ryan.
+1000000000000000
Well done, Ryan, is correct!
Bullshit. It didn’t sound like he was joking when he said it. Now, he has less credibility. Just my opinion.
I agree
6-7 of our starters are not accounted for and need to be extended or replaced in free agency (plus a TON of our depth)
I guess if you guys want to “Go to the show” once and then be a shit bottom of the league team that has to be disassembled and sold off like the Marlins were twice then yeah, go ahead and trade away our only hedge against the cap (cheep drafted players) to make our “window” that much smaller. Better win it all this year because we are back to sucking worse than the mediocre we have been for years after this year. Go Dolphins?
I hear ya, 100%! I feel as though we’re following the Rams’ blueprint to win it all in one year, just to fall back to chumps shortly thereafter.
Steve Ross wants to go out a winner, and these may be the long-term consequences of pushing all the chips to the middle of the table for one Super Bowl victory.
well, no better way to blow up the team and cost the GM and coach their jobs!
We haven’t been to a Super Bowl in 39 years, and have made the playoffs only 3 times in the last 14 years. As a fan I’m all in.🙂
so you WANT the team to suck after not winning a SB? To be disassembled and let all the young talent leave while having to replace them with more expensive lesser players in free agency? Because THAT is what Grief has been setting this team up for.
How much less money?
8 mil? otherwise GFYS
It’s probably not min wage …
The New York Giants have landed fourth-year linebacker/defensive back Isaiah Simmons from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a 2024 seventh-round pick.
Simmons, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2020 draft, notched 7.5 sacks, four interceptions and 258 tackles through his first three NFL seasons in Arizona.
———————-
WTF!! Is this true? Got to look more into it. Something wrong with Simmons?
I heard he has struggled at LB and there was talk about moving him to Safety.
What kind of message does it send to the current players? Sorry Sieler, we will not extend you because we are going to over pay a running back by 4x’s as much as the other running backs who have busted their asses. Sorry Christian, no room in the cap. Going to have to let you walk next year. Sorry Hunt. No extension for you either. Sorry Ingold, Needham, et al. We need to trade for a running back that doesn’t average any more yards than the guys we already have on the team and pay him instead of you.
Good luck to you guys, you won’t win a SB hear, maybe your next team will with you.
Agreed, Rockphin.
I don’t think we need Jonathan Taylor either
But you know what – it makes us much better and much harder to defend
I give the OL lovers hard time here form time to time but Ken and OD (to name a few) are absolutely right to be concerned about it
It might be our Achilles heal
But I think other than adding reliable personal at OL – which I don’t think is there for us, the addition of a running game is gonna making Tua much easier
And the thing about some one like Taylor or some one else we were interested in (jacobs) is they are just gonna be able to puns the ball inside – – even when they are unproductive, they are productive
I don’t think we need Taylor but I think he will be a difference maker for us this year and may make the difference in a postseason win or 2 or 3 🙏 and finishing 9-8
I’m tears of trading for him and having him play out his contract (Phish’s suggestion) the problem is it undermines what he’s trying to do – and that might hurt our appeal to him
But maybe he just wants to get out of Indianapolis
QB Tua Tagovailoa and the starters will play “more than series but less than a half” in Miami’s preseason finale against the Jaguars, coach Mike McDaniel said.
Booooooooooo
I want them to sit the whole game
The silver lining to Hill getting in a fight in a dock in Miami
Is it reminds the league that there are docks in Miami
And year round boating available
I would want to get out of Indianapolis too
😁

So they’re all playing for free this year?
Tim, we are something like 10-12M under the cap this season, BUT MUST MUST MUST carry that over to next year because we are already 34M over NEXT years cap and that Cap number does not include all those players I listed as they are all free agents NEXT season.
They’ll have to deal with that next year. I’m tired of having a good cap situation and not winning anything for decades.
that’s my point. Dealing with it entails tearing down the team or extending the cap hell out to dead money and destroying our future ability to operate.
I don’t think it will be a doom situation.
We are already “ALL IN” there is nothing but mortgaging the future to push into the pot now. (plus throwing away the only solution to cap problems, cheep drafted players)
THEY NEED TO BE PENALIZED DRAFT PICKS!! THEY ARE TANKING!!
The integrity of the game above ALL. (says BS Goodall) Shut that shit down!
THERE NEEDS TO BE AN INVESTIGATION!

only half tongue in cheek. My outrage is all feigned but I believe fair is fair. There had to be bad press about Dolphins for months and an investigation. Better check out the Gander.

JMO, but I think Ryan Clark truly meant his apology, but that’s just me. To err is to be human… to publicly admit your error and apologize is a step above. I suppose we shall see if Clark meant what he said in his apology as time goes on.
I believe in forgiveness and can accept one apologizing for a misdeed.
He said he was joking when he said it. I watched the clip. Sure didn’t sound that way. He’s apologizing but making an excuse for himself at the same time. Not buying it.
Whatever the case may be, I’m very HAPPY that you and I are sticking up for Tua!!!

NOT a model to follow!!
The Cardinals have a new GM and coaching staff. They are starting over. That team is broken.
No Doggy, no guitar, unless Sonny brings his guitar. It won’t be the same w/o the Doggies but we can still put something together
Potato sack races would be funny.😂
As long as music is involved. If we do potato sack races, I would think Benny Hill’s theme song would work well. lol
Here’s some intel on why Simmons was traded for just a 7th.
https://nypost.com/2023/08/24/isaiah-simmons-cardinals-tenure-came-to-unsavory-end/
Rock, once we traded for Tyreek and then Chubb it was clear that we wanted to make a run while we still had X and other good players. That’s when I said as a fan I’m all in on this.
Sometimes you have to go for it when the timing is right. I want to enjoy the chance of having an exciting season and possibly winning a championship. Even at the cost of a season or two afterwards to regroup.
I would prefer to enjoy team success year in and year out to being a flash in the pan. For decades there have been perennial winners and then the rest. Granted much of the success can be directly tied to having top 10 QB’s but the those teams were able to manager their cap correctly and drafted well, traded older players away for picks a year early rather than a year late (and get nothing)
I feel strongly that fucking up the future of now is ALWAYS a mistake, without exception.
**For now
We have good young talent still on rookie deals. It doesn’t have to implode. And if Tua stays healthy and plays well this year we have our QB which is what you need to have continued success. I think Grier has a plan, let’s see if it pans out.
Does anyone know our exact draft capital in 2024? I see conflicting reports and the last one I saw was 1, 2, 5, 6, 7.
Yes, we lost 3rd for tampering, 4th for Chub
Tim, that is correct. No 3rd or 4th round picks in 2024.
Thanks dudes, thought it was accurate.
Herd…thank you for correcting Stanger in a way he got it. Obviously, my numerous attempts were for naught…lol.

Practice 18: 2023 Miami Dolphins Training Camp Notebook
Aug 24, 2023 at 05:30 PM
Wingfield-Travis
The dog days are over as training camp wraps with an exciting final day here in Miami Gardens. The practice concluded with three consecutive touchdowns from QB1 as the team gets ready for the preseason finale in Jacksonville.
Here are the highlights from the final practice of Dolphins camp 2023:
Practice 18, August 24, 2023
Top Moment
Tracking touchdown passes in training camp is a nebulous endeavor. Scoring plays are unlikely on a day where the offense routinely starts from its own end of the field. On Thursday, however, fans enjoyed their final chance to take in practice and were treated to many touchdowns as the Dolphins worked some red zone drills.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa put the pigskin in the paint time-and-time again, including the final three plays of the practice. Those touchdowns went to wide receivers Robbie Chosen, Cedrick Wilson Jr. and Braxton Berrios.
Earlier, Tagovailoa spun back-shoulder scores to running back Salvon Ahmed and wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
“He just works every day, in and out of here,” said Tagovailoa’s pro and college teammate, defensive tackle Raekwon Davis. “He just does his job and he continues to practice his technique. He’s having a great
camp.”
Top Quote:
His attention to detail, he’s in the best shape of his life by far and you can see it with his play. He’s adding different tools to his game and he’s always had a lot of love from the locker room.
Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel on DT Raekwon Davis’ training camp
Davis is having quite the camp of his own. His production through three seasons has come largely through reps that don’t make the box score. Davis’ ability to eat double teams and create chances for his teammates doesn’t draw the limelight, even if it does garner the attention of his peers. However, over the past month, Davis has been a regular in the offensive backfield. That work culminated with the orange jersey and practice player of the day honors.
More Top Performers
The Dolphins defense had three consecutive sacks at one point in practice. Two of those sacks belonged to new linebacker Malik Reed. The other was by Andrew Van Ginkel.
In addition to his aforementioned touchdown reception from Tagovailoa, Ahmed also had a 15-yard touchdown run.
There’s supposed to be live music at the tiki bar at the place I’m staying. That’s my plan B if no music from you guys.
There is also a bandstand on the BROADwalk that sometimes has groups .. but yeah need drinks and tunes flowing at the same time
Rock – With regards to being over the cap next year, they clear $20M+ with two cuts- Ogbah and Wilson (WR). Tua’s $24 M hit will be reduced to a minimum with an extension. The Cap is a game unless you do something stupid (Jets) like sign a QB to a two year guaranteed gazillion dollar contract.
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/miami-dolphins/yearly/cap/
We have like 51 guys under contract for next season (right now) Unfortunately all those starters are not accounted for. Now, Steve will say those guys won’t be on the team so their salaries will be put back in the pot, and he would be right, but their contracts are special team level contracts.
We are not going to get much cap relief for Tua, he accounts for 24M next season Sportrac predicts he will get a 6 year 45m ave extension. Move that 45 around any way you like, it is still 4.5 times his cap this year.
Could and will Grief do something like giving him 80 mil in bonus and accounting for it on the back end, yeah he probably will. Bad business.
just circling back to clarify. I don’t think the sky is falling, I just don’t think we should trade away our 2nd round pick and 25’s second round pick for a running back we will have to give 12 mil ave IF WE EVEN RUN THAT MUCH our committee can give us what a horse will, and there is much less chance of losing to injury with a stable instead of one work horse
Not spam

Boooooooooooooooo
If we don’t win our division or go far in the playoffs, it won’t be because our run game isn’t good enough
True, but having a difference maker, one that opens things up in the passing game, could change everything
For the record I don’t want him, just playing devil’s advocate
Doesn’t make sense to pay him a lot of money though. That money would be better spent on Wilkins and Sieler
We could’ve had Dalvin and 15 other RBs, Grief is just doing his due diligence to see what he can get on the cheap, if he had made a real offer Taylor would be a Fin, but we all know that’s not happening

(DT Zach Sieler we saw leave eventually yesterday with a leg issue. We didn’t see WR Tyreek Hill practice. Are they okay? And who’s going to play quarterback in Saturday’s game?) – “So (Zach) Sieler, I think if you were really locked and noticing, which I know you were, he was going back and forth throughout team drills. It’s because he was dealing with something that was nagging him that it didn’t hurt him to continue, but that was painful. So it’s not anything serious; however, for his individual experience, pain is not always awesome. So he’ll be day-to-day, but nothing to worry about. Tyreek (Hill) was one of those classic coach-to-player protection things that had to do with where we were in training camp, really what he did the day before. He really took it upon himself to dictate the terms of the energy and he did that going full tilt. I think he had the highest sprint yardage and was the fastest player that day and so I really liked where he was at, didn’t want him to take a step back so that’s kind of my role in that. So you should see him today and if I’ve seen enough of him today, you’ll see him stop playing football at some point or he might play the whole practice. I’m just connected with each individual for that reason.”
(On the quarterbacks in Jacksonville, is QB Mike White even able to play?) – “So Mike White is still in the protocol and I’m no genie. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I feel like it would be promising for him to clear protocol, but regardless, you’re not going to see him on Saturday.”
(And so QB James Blackman, will he play on Saturday and do you have an appreciation for someone in his situation where he’s got the opportunity to put something on film, undrafted rookie, called back?) – “I would say I’m expecting him to get some snaps. I like preseason games for a multitude of reasons. They are cumbersome in terms of it’s an extension of the season, but what an opportunity for a guy that deserves it. All he’s done is really put his best foot forward and that’s a tough job sometimes when your literal job is to learn and not as much through action as – you don’t get into playing football so that you can go to meetings. And sometimes that’s his role. Sometimes the most burn he gets in practice is one-on-ones. Sometimes he takes some team reps. All of that, I think him and his teammates really have a strong appreciation of the earned right that it’s one of the reasons I appreciate the preseason; guys get opportunities to do something they’ve really worked at their craft or they’ve really worked on and committed to for their lives. So I’m fired up for him and I think his teammates are, too. He’s a guy that does things the right way and is always prepared for his opportunities regardless of how many there are.”
(There have been multiple reports that the Dolphins have made a trade offer to the Colts for Jonathan Taylor? Are those reports accurate?) – “Here’s the thing with reports. First of all, I think my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter just Tweeted a report. Credence to that, I think as far as that goes, it seems like…”
(What did her report say?) – “That every player in the National Football League is coming to the Dolphins, because I feel like that’s kind of on-trend. So whatever that is. Me, I’ve said this before. I’m not going to speak about other players. And then how many times do I have to explain like, Chris Grier’s job is to work. He works at it a lot and keeps me abreast when the real, generally, when things are real. I don’t have questions about them. There’s been kind of a consistent pattern where we’ve talked about all sorts of players, so reports, whatever. That kind of seems like the noise that is around the business, however, let’s just say I would be doing a terrible job as a head coach – I’ve got 90 players that that collection of players, this will be last practice that they have together in its entirety. That’s a journey that starts for players being in shape and whatever, but as a team, April 17 – this is the 45th time that we’ve had something on the field together and this is the last one and I’m very much just concerned about all those guys and anything less, if I’m worried about whatever hasn’t come to my desk yet, I think that’s an opportunity cost that I’m not willing to pay for all those players and I’m excited to go coach today. It’s a big practice for a lot of guys and something that we see as an opportunity to get better, not worse, and there’s only one direction. It’s either A or B, better or worse. Hopefully my daughter stops Tweeting.”
(The follow-up I have is trend-wise in the National Football League, teams have gone away from valuing the running back. It seems like this organization deeply values the running back position. Can you talk about that philosophy?) – “Let’s just go simple math. It’s a very physical game. There’s let’s say in an average season with 17 games now, let’s say you have 1,200 plays on each side of the ball and how many of those plays are the running backs touching it? It’s a valuable position that you have to have depth at and I think it’s one of the reasons – think of it this way. You’ve gone to practices and you’ve seen two games and pick a day, pick a game and you’ve seen a running back make plays. A running back. Which means there are different ones every time, which speaks to the competition that we have in that room and that’s why I’ve always valued the position. It’s a big portion of your touches and you understand that in that process, you have to have a good solid group really for the team and for your offense for the whole year. I got my feet wet really in NFL game planning in the run game so it’s near and dear to my heart.”
6 of 17 for 78 yards, Colts Richardson tonight
For the pre season he’s under 50% and all of about 145 yards, but they keep telling us how great he’s looked
Remind you of anything?
Richardson has a ton of talent. Just not sure it’s football talent.
(It’s been a while since we’ve seen the orange jersey. Do you think it will make an appearance today?) – “I think it may today. I think it might be a large orange jersey for a big human being whose name is Raekwon Davis.”
(How do you think his camp has been this year so far?) – “I made a big point in the team meeting today and showed a clip of individual (drills) from yesterday. We were talking as coaches and it kind of triggered my mind, a rep of the same drill back in the last OTA’s, so 2022 OTA’s. It kind of represents one of the main focuses and appreciations of being a coach in this great game, and something that you really hope to see everyone go through, which was a complete and utter transformation in mind and body. His attention to detail, he’s in the best shape of his life by far and you can see it with his play. He’s adding different tools to his game and he’s always had a lot of love from the locker room. You can feel that as a coach and you can feel his teammates really appreciate where he’s at, what he’s done to control what he can control. The Miami Dolphins are better for it so that’s a big and deserving jersey.”
(You told us about the playing status of QB Mike White and QB James Blackman so I have to ask what are the plans for whether QB Tua Tagovailoa plays or not on Saturday?) – “By and large, things always fluctuate depending on variables that are both with play and personnel around players. My plan has been, in the back of my mind, the starting point was more than a series, less than a half for all the starters. That is dependent on today’s practice and overall you’re just trying to prepare guys for the regular season. I had in the back of my mind, if all things were even, Tua would play on Saturday, but that’s something that I’ll revisit with the coaches after we’ve completed this practice and kind of solidify that. But he’s been prepared to all week. I told him that after the last game. He’s prepared as though he is playing and we’ll revisit that after today’s practice.”
(Did Jacksonville’s strategy affect that, with Head Coach Doug Pederson saying he might play his starters into the second quarter?) – “No, unless Jacksonville’s box scores during the season affect our box scores, which I don’t think we can borrow points or subtract points. No, it doesn’t really. I think an important part of this job is to adjust to your particular team and do what your team needs. I’m sure that Doug Pederson isn’t that concerned with whether we are or aren’t playing our starters. And I think that’s something independently you just do what’s right for each individual unit, which is what we’ll do.”
(Yesterday, QB Tua Tagovailoa came to his own defense in regards to being criticized about his physique. I wanted to know if you have any comment on that. You see him every day, you see the work he puts in.) – “I was starting to get annoyed, I was hoping for the opportunity to talk about, if I understand your question correctly, how Tua’s offseason has been. I can say hard facts that I’ve seen with my own eyes. And its top five on the team in terms of, we’ve had a lot of guys really stepped their game up. If you want to talk about somebody that’s committed to doing what he’s doing for the right reasons, he was already invested before this year, but then taking a bunch of things that have happened, he really put an onus on controlling what he can control. So you want to talk about every metric that (Head Strength and Conditioning Coach) Dave Puloka and his strength staff really track, which is pretty much everything to the degree of blinks, every metric of strength that is measured, he’s shattered his previous highs. And in some instances, he’s almost twice as strong with things and that’s been a daily commitment that he hasn’t wavered from. He’s taken his nutrition to another level. He’s taken his commitment to what he’s trying to do and really thought outside the box and really, really worked at it, so I couldn’t be happier with the work that he’s put in and what I’ve factually viewed from my own eyes. Basically, you’re happy for guys as a coach when you can see in the present that down the road, they’re going to have no regrets, meaning the results are what the results are, but you know that without any shade of gray that you’ve put your best foot forward, and he really he really has. And I think his teammates would agree. We are getting the absolute best version of Tua that’s existed.”
I don’t think looking at a trade for Taylor has anything to do with Wilkins.
Sounds like the holdup on the contract for Wilkins is his agent pushing for top DT money but the pass rush numbers aren’t there and that’s true.
Right about Wilkins Tim. When the other DL contracts were being handed out recently, I mentioned that he should get less because he hasn’t produced as many sacks/pressures as the others. He should probably get $2-$3 million less per year because if it. Hopefully they can get it done before the season starts.
Tim – how doesn’t it affect Wilkins? If we trade for Taylor and pay him that’s less money to go elsewhere
Mike, I think they just move money around and get it done anyway.
And please don’t put a new blog up right now after I posted that below!
I’ve kind of been on the fence about “going for it” and “building the team the right way”. We’ve tried to build the tam the right way for years, and we haven’t had much success doing it, so I have no problem just saying fuck it and going for it. Some have pointed out the LA Rams as an example. We haven’t won a Super Bowl in 51 years, we haven’t won a AFC Championship in 38 years (with our last appearance being 30 years ago) we haven’t won a playoff game in 23 years- let that sink in for a minute. I think as fans, we have an inflated view of how good our team has been over the past two decades- we’ve actually been pretty bad, with a playoff season here and there. I actually question some times if we will win another championship in my lifetime- I was 10 months and 1 year and 10 months when the Dolphins won their two Super Bowls. If we can get even ONE Super Bowl out of building it this way, then it will be worth it.
If we trade for Taylor it means that Wilkins will not be resigned or perhaps Tua will not be resigned. No way we can afford to pay all 3
I disagree. We don’t know what the cap will look like, and that money can be converted into bonuses to spread it out. I think we extend Wilkins, and if we don’t extend Tua it means we don’t believe in him as the long term answer at QB for $45 -$50 million per year, which is where he will be.
If we don’t extend Tua we are in a much worse place as a team because it means we will have to make a major investment in either draft capital or salary to bring another QB. That makes it all the more unlikely we can sign Taylor
Bri – I guess it depends on what you want. Just because you load for a SB run doesn’t mean it happens. So say we do get Taylor, pay him for 3 years $10M + per year and then lose Wilkins and Sieler the following year and take a bunch of steps backwards. I’m not a fan of that. I know Jonathan Taylor is better than any back on our roster but I think we’re fine at RB now. We’re a passing team in a passing league. This kid Brooks could be a Taylor type back, who knows? When the Bucs loaded up, they didn’t trade for players, they just went to the team because Brady recruited them. I’d prefer that.
Agreed Mike. I’m fine either way. I’ll be excited to get one of the best backs in the league, but I think we will be fine as well. I think the Colts have put themselves in the position where they almost have to trade Taylor, and Grier won’t overpay.
But we don’t have a Brady on our team.
I also very strongly believe that Grier is just interested in a bargain, and he isn’t looking to overpay any player, or Cook would have been here
Our RB position is in the best shape it has been in years. We don’t need to bring in anyone else even if they are better. Our RBs are fine for the type of offense we run
Well, they are definitely exploring that possibility. I think if Grier doesn’t have to give up too much, and believes it’s a fair deal, then Taylor will be on the team by the end of the weekend.
It’s his job to explore possibilities and it doesn’t sound like he is going to hard to get another back. I mean Mostert, Wilson Achane and Ahmed is a good set of RBs. 4 deep. We get Taylor on the cheap, sure you do that but no need to give up premium capital for him
Yes, but not every GM is doing that with Taylor. If he gets a good deal , Taylor will be on this team.
They are clearly interested in Taylor.
They made an offer, so it’s more than just exploring the possibility of adding him .
I get trying to grab a 24-year old, franchise-type RB talent, but there are 3 really good backs, and 2 so far-so good backs on the roster. No one outside of here seems to talk about Ahmed, whom I think is better than either Mostert or Wilson…and they are pretty good. Save the money for proven guys already on the team.
I think Ahmed may be ready to have a breakout season
Don’t bet on it. He’s quick and and effective with space. If he doesn’t have room he gets hit and goes down as easily as I would. LOL
I agree Mike
Let’s not anoint anything, he had some good plays in PS and one great one, that he got rundown on
Colts don’t want to trade Taylor, they just wanted him to test the market to prove he isn’t worth what he thinks he is
Why would they, when they have a new potential franchise QB, that needs a rushing offense
because Irsay is a spoiled petulant dumbass
Ahmed is a quality part of our roster
But he is definitely a change of pace type of back
He’s going into his 4th year and at the RB position, the player is the player he is by year 2
I can’t think of a RB who ever became a all star in year 4
As Steve and Mike E say above, Ahmed can be caught from behind.
So he’s not elite and never can be.
Gaskin is even slower, and Jeff Wilson ain’t that fast either.
And they all get their share of being banged up and not available.
3 of them are injured right now, and we haven’t even started the season.
(… although, almost all RBs get beat up and miss some time.)
None of them weigh more than about 200 except Mostert, and he’s lanky.
Achane has already shown that he can be picked up and tossed down,
and after just 2 games in the league, he’s already too beat up to play.
I love these men, I really do, they have a lot of heart,
and I’ll root for them and be happy if that is all we have,
but to say a guy like Josh Jacobs or Jon Taylor
would not be a big improvement is not looking at the
facts of the production they have done in the NFL.
PLUS
we need enough weapons to keep pace with teams
that just signed A’rod and Dalvin and Zeke,
not to mention Big Bad Buffalo with a QB that is bigger
and harder to tackle than any of our RBs.
To me all in is all in at this point…
You go with what you got and on paper the potential is there. Now walk the talk.
With 2nd tear scheme, better coaching, better players picked up and drafted, players stepping up their training and process (it seems like they are), OL (choking) showing improvement, and the injury gods showing some mercy, how are we not all in?
One RB at the expense of where we’re at to start the season only poison’s that start and sends a bad message to the team, imo.
Extend Wilkins for gods sake…that shows you’re all in! Lol…
This is not a one-trick pony team…
I think the choices in front of us are
1. Running back by committee
2. An elite running back
I don’t think anyone on our roster is a substitute for an elite running ban.
There are many good teams in the nfl that use running back by committee – the chiefs have always done that – so it’s fine, you can win that way
If anyone can be special on our roster from the RB imo, it’s gonna be mostert. The only thing stopping him from being more productive so far in his career has been injuries. He. Has special speed – so he does have a few physically qualities that set him apart
But I still think not acquiring that elite RB like Cook or jacobs or Taylor indicates running back by committee
In this day and age the way RBs are used there is only a handful of elite RBs imo
Taylor is one of them
I really think his addition to the roster might win is some
Important games in 2024 and personally think it’s a better model than running back by committee
But I’m not blind to the costs or that we can win by RB by committee
So I think the costs ultimately are what leads us on this –
If it’s too high a costs – let’s move on and get ready to play the season with our current groups of RBs
Another thing that concerns me, and it was something that I was worried about during that draft year, is that Tua will never contribute anything significant as a runner.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised when he scrambled for a first a couple times, and when he ran over that DB, that was cool, but you cannot game plan for rushing production out of QB with Tua in there.
Sure I’d like to see him both run the sneak and scramble off his rollouts etc.
but OMG, then we’re in the concussion protocol, and that might be his career.
So all rushing production must come from our RBs.
If you’re going to add QB as a liability in the run game, then you need to add TEs and WRs as running weapons. I would say we more than make up for scheming other positions in the run game.
***
I know we have a real FB for short yardage,
and I’m a big fan of Alec Ingold,
but in 2022 he ran 6 times for 8 yards.
Hey
I’m super impressed that 5 of those rushes went for 1st downs
and the other was a TD.
But 8 yards rushing in a season?
Lol…
True the production is great, the lack of opportunity is out of his control
Not sure what you’re trying to say
To say we should just extend Wilkins brings the same issues as trading for Taylor – overpay
People make it seem like it’s all on the Fins…why haven’t they extended him yet
He’s asking for way too much, his agent poo poos the most important sacks/pressures
He’s worth 20-22, not 26-28
You draft players in the 1st rd, and they play like 1st rounders, you want to keep them. It’s crazy to let them go. Maybe the 3rd contract, but he’s in his prime and a very productive, healthy player that plays every game
Obviously he has to be slotted by production, and his lack of sacks compared to the top guys is an issue. He probably deserves top 10 money though
Agreed. I don’t know what has been offered already, but I think 20 million per season is a good number based on what the other defensive lineman have gotten. All of those defense of lineman that got bigger numbers put up much better sack and pressure stats in the first 3 to 4 seasons.
VERY happy to hear this. Fuck them. Keep your disgruntled locker room cancer
Lol!
YAY!
BARRY HE DIDN’T SAY YOU SAID THAT. As an writer you think you would be able to fn read. He said they don’t CURRENTLY feel the need. FCS
It’s killing me: I really want to know what we offered the Colts for Johnathan Taylor.
I know. If they offered a second, then I definitely wouldn’t go any higher.
I think a second-rounder is too high, but that’s just me and my $.02. It would probably be a done deal for a second-rounder.
I would guess it was a third-rounder and some change (a conditional 5th or something like that).
I REALLY want to know what the offer was!!! 🙂
The problem being we don’t have a 3rd or 4th round pick and next year’s 3rd round pick equates to this year’s 2nd round pick. So we do not have the draft capital to make the deal unless it is this years’ first or 2nd or next years 2nd.
Reports are the colts are demanding a first or multiple second day picks. We don’t have the multiple second day picks.
From Omar (who has shown no love for him in the past)
Most Improved Player: Austin Jackson
The former 2020 first-round pick is lean, mean, and he’s on a redemption tour, attempting to preserve his career as an NFL starter. While his performance as the Dolphins’ starting right tackle hasn’t always been clean, he was one of the unit’s top performers during training camp. It’s clear Jackson’s goal is to shut up all of his doubters.
Please, shut us up.
Wilkins’s agent could legit counter with “hey that former DC ran all those zero blitzes and safety and corner blitzes where my man was supposed to eat up doubles and clog the middle to keep the QB from stepping up (which he did quite well), so it impinged his sack numbers.
Also no other DL led the NFL in the most rushing tackles in history by a DT.
That’s a fair point
So one report says the colts will not revisit the dolphins offer. another report says the dolphins do not feel the need to increase their offer CURRENTLY and now another off says Talks continue….
Um if both teams have said that they are not going to revisit the negotiation, then talks DO NOT continue now do they?
This guy is a player.
He works well with Fangio.
He was PFF’s #4 best LB in the league in 2019 (I think).
If we can get his head on straight
(which will not be easy),
he could give us some quality minutes.
BBM, thank you for posting all of these breakdown videos. Would it be possible to find someone else who breaks down the film who doesn’t sound like he just attended a children’s birthday party, stole the balloons and sucked in all the helium?
😂
Lol…no shit!
Pre wee Herman lives forever through his voice
Obviously we’re interested in Taylor so we’ll see if it happens. If not I still like our chances to have a good season.
That’s the way I feel. It would be awesome to have him, but I’m comfortable with our RBs as well.

Great points, Rockphin, and thank you. But still… I want to know what we offered! 🙂
Paying Wilkins is not even close to comparison on paying a RB not on the team…wtf? Lmao!
Some people are now saying that the colts and dolphins have a deal in place
But before it happens, the new contract with taylor needs to be finalized
Reliable sources?
Not really
Reliable as a fart letting you know what you had for lunch
Twitter garbage mostly
I think it’s evident that Ryder McConville KNOWS what he’s talking about and I love his breakdown videos. Major propers to BBMike for having found him.
But yes… his voice is even slightly higher than Ben Shapiro’s! It sounds as though he’s been on puberty blockers his whole life. It’s all good, though… substance is more important than anything else.
Ryder’s love for our Phins makes him one of us.
I’m sure he’s a serious fan and it looks like a good breakdown
Besides it would be off-putting if Barry White was narrating these things
SO RIGHT on Barry White narrating these things! 🙂
Although it might be kind of awesome
Lol! His prepubescent voice cracks me up when he’s breaking down film…..he seems like a smart dude….I learn from him
Lmao
