Alright Dolphins fans, relaxed, reserved, nonchalant Mike E. is gone! It’s 2023, and our time is NOW!! This is undeniably the most talented roster we have had here in Miami since the mid 90’s. and our last playoff victory was 23 years ago against the Indianapolis Colts when RB Lamar Smith put the team on his back and ran his heart out for 209 yards on 40 carries and 2 TD’s, one of them in OT for the win, a 17 yard power run carrying defenders in the end zone. It’s time to reclaim that kind of glory. We have drafted, traded for, and signed the type of roster that should take us into the playoffs and beyond. Don’t discount the fact that RB Raheem Mostert is now rippling with 215 lbs of speed and muscle. Don’t discount the fact that we actually gave a pretty big contract to a FB, one Alec Ingold. Also, don’t discount that the Miami TE room is filled with guys who block, and make space for RB’s. Sure, no Dolphins TE jumps off the page as a pass catcher, but all of them block, and block well. I know we have Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, one of the most formidable WR duos in the NFL, but this team was built for the long haul, and if you want to be a playoff contender, you have to be able to run the football, and that’s why we have all those blocking TE’s, one expensive FB, a speedy RB (Mostert) that put on 10 pounds of muscle, and a guy who I believe has a bigger impact than some believe, RB Chris Brooks, undrafted from BYU, a big bodied RB at 6’1 223. We wanted Jonathan Taylor because he’s a big back, different than anyone else on our roster, a finisher. That’s what Chris Brooks will be for us in time.
If you’ve realized, I spent an entire dialogue on the offense and now, in the 2nd paragraph, I’m going to finally talk about our defense. This is a defense just ready to climb to the top of the NFL. It would have been wonderful if we had signed DT Christian Wilkins, but both he, and the team remain committed to getting a deal done, and I don’t think for a minute that a person of Wilkin’s character needed a reason to play hard and have a great season, but the fact that he wants a huge contract doesn’t hurt any in incentivizing him to have a great season. We brought in DC Vic Fangio to finally unleash what this defense is capable of. OK, it wasn’t ideal that one of the key guys we traded for is out till most likely November at the earliest, Jalen Ramsey, but we have so much talent on this defense, including the secondary, that Ramsey will end up being a pleasant boost when he’s healthy. CB Xavien seems healthy, and 2nd year rising star Kader Kohou looks like may start opposite Howard, just going by the depth chart on the Dolphins home page. I won’t be surprised, because most of the time when I imagine Eli Apple, I see WR’s running by him and see the back of his jersey. If that’s the case, either rookie Cam Smith could be the nickel, or maybe if he’s not healthy enough, Apple or newly acquired CB Kelvin Joseph will play nickel back. At safety, Brandon Jones returns from injury, and he was having a great season before his injury in Game 7. Jevon Holland is poised to have an All Pro type season at the other safety spot.
Third paragraph in and I still haven’t yet mentioned the defensive line and linebackers, the creme de al creme. Christian Wilkins at LE, Raekwon Davis in the middle and Zach Sieler at the other end spot, who just got a nice contract extension. At LB, definitely our best unit in quite some time, with Jalen Phillips at LOLB, the unheralded LILB Jerome Baker, David Long who came over from Tennesee and will be big player in our defense, and then Bradley Chubb at ROLB. DE/OLB Emmanuel Ogbah will be getting a fair amount of reps both hand in the ground and standing up. We have nice depth at LB with familiar faces Andrew Van Ginkel, Duke Riley, 2nd year LB Channing Tindall and the aforementioned Emmanuel Ogbah who will play both DE/DT and OLB. The area of biggest concern for me is the spot opposite X. Can either Kader Kohou, Cam Smith or Eli Apple, or possibly even Kelvin Joseph hold down that spot and do at least an average job? Big question, and one that will be tested immediately against QB Justin Herbert, who loves to throw the ball down the field. I would imagine we’re not going to leave whoever plays that spot on an island and they will likely get safety help, which then would put a lot of pressure on X in one-on-one coverage. Mike Williams, one of the bigger WR’s in the NFL is a physical player who will give most DB’s a tough assignment, and Herbert has the arm to get him the ball almost anywhere on the field.
Our offense clearly will be a different animal this season. No question Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle will get lots of touches, but I do believe we will be a more balanced offense this season. I have yet to mention RB De’Von Achane, who at some point will show the NFL his speed and smooth running style. This will truly be a RB by committee situation, with Mostert at least for now the lead back, but I think plenty of touches for Achane, Ahmed and the rookie Chris Brooks. Don’t be surprised if like in the preseason, Chris Brooks gets lots of carries deep in the red zone. QB Tua Tagovailoa has done all he can in the offseason to help himself stay healthy, and help lead this team an entire season of games. He added weight, learned through martial arts proper falling techniques to keep his head from crashing to the ground and as we saw in the preseason, he employed those techniques, and most importantly, they worked.
I think all of us here at FMU have looked at our defense and expected better. I think Vic Fangio looked at this opportunity through the same lens we do, this a defense just waiting to flourish with proper guidance. Fangio is exactly 5 years my senior, born August 22nd 1958. He’s been a defensive coordinator since 1995, no need to count, that’s 23 years (Fangio took a break from the NFL from 2006-2010). It’s hard for me not to believe that Fangio is the missing piece. Flores had some strong points on defense, learning from Bill Belichick in NE. Then Flores’ dismissal led the Dolphins to hand over the reins to Josh Boyer, who in my opinion, was too one dimensional and far too reliant on the zero blitz coverage scheme. I would expect less sacks from the safeties and more from the LB’s and DL. I think David Long is going to be great in this defense, both as a run stopper and helping in pass coverage. It’s not crazy to think we could have a top 10 offense and defense simultaneously.
We have a tough opening game, no doubt. The Chargers were the 2nd team last season to stymie both Tua Tagovailoa and our offense. It was the second leg of a dreadful west coast trip that began with a loss to the Brock Purdy led SF 49ers. Tua was sacked 3 times, and threw 2 INT’s against the vaunted SF defense. The offense was totally one dimensional, we ran 8 times against the Niners. Against the Chargers, it was no better. The Chargers hit Tua, but mostly took away his passing lanes which led to an awful 10 of 28 performance for only 145 yards. We made a slightly better attempt to run, but still had less than 20 carries (19). Despite having one of the best RB’s in the NFL in Austin Ekeler, Herbert was throwing everywhere, attempting 51 passes in all and completing most of them, 39 completions for 367 yards. We’re going to need to do a whole lot better on both sides of the ball to win this one. I expect more running from us, and hopefully that will open up the passing game for a few shots here and there. This would be a huge opening day win, and a big shot fired in the AFC towards the playoff race. I don’t have him in FF, but if I had Chris Brooks, I’d be inclined to insert him in the lineup because I think the kid may get a couple of TD’s in this one. In any case, we must have a better showing than we did on December 11th, 2022 against the Chargers last season.
GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I don’t play FF. Is 27.1 points for a game good for one player?
I don’t either but I think that’s really good
Really? That is the page turn? sigh I’m changing my avi back
Anyone doing Fantasy have Tua and Cheetah starting? 😁
I have Tyreek- 50.5 points yesterday! (I don’t play in the blogs FF)
You know, even though Buff was really good in my teens and lost 4 SB’s in a row {chuckles} that meant they beat us out of the playoffs those years, even so, I have never really hated the Bills. There’s a rivalry, but I never hated them. I have hated the Jets throughout their mediocre existence. HATED {shudders}
I asked Siri how many fantasy points did Tua have and she answered 27.1
It all depends on how the league is set up for points. But in our league, Tua had 35.14. Tyreek had 44.5. Not too shabby.
I just want the Jets to lose so as to shut up their whining fans
Yup.
I think this throw was one of the best I’ve seen from Tua. Great catch by Berrios too.
That was one of those off script plays that the greats make and they all said that Tua couldn’t can’t make. That one and the first TD right after the Int were gold.
My son had Burrow and Tua as his fantasy Quarterbacks and he started Burrow 😟
You need a father-to-son talk. 😉
I am currently trolling him on line
out of 16 teams the AFC only had 5 wins this week. (6 after tonight)
Is it wrong of me to wish for blood and mayhem from tonight’s game.
Nothing life threatening of course!
just a few exposed bones, here and there that’s all
Why not life threatening? I mean you might as well go all out
I’m an asshole! Not the Devil
Too soon?
😈
Great anthem
Injuries 😃
Aaron bailing already lol
He said fuck this
Did Rogers break a hip?
Was watching the Astros
Rodgers on the cart? I hadn’t started watching yet!
He walked down the tunnel after a short ride
Me neither, letting the family watch masked singer on PVR and it ran long
McDaniel would have gone for it
🍻
Yep
McDaniel would have gone for it there!
“There’s a center seven yards downfield running a seam route” Peyton
Reply malfunction
With Momma’s boy playing QB tonight 3 points might be enough for the Bills
Lol
am I the only one sitting here alone, giggling to myself, about Aaron Rodgers?
Nope!
I am not giggling. I am out right belly laughing
No and I speak for practically everyone lol
Not me, only because I don’t want to tempt the football gods to teach me a lesson.
how mad would those gods be if our thoughts turn, now, to Josh Allen?
Phillips sightng
👀
Tua looking at the AFC East
Staj D looking pretty good though
I wouldn’t say giggling to myself
Im watching & saying out loud – “wow that’s not right’
But in my heart, I know it’s right…
on the outside we all show appropriate concern … on the inside we are all The Joker
😂
Rhino, Allen is doing fine self inflicting for now
Wilson was flashing a celebratory sign instead of blocking
The bills injured Tua the last two years
Now Rogers?
I wonder what White’s trade value is right now????????

They said X-ray was negative
But X-ray won’t show tendon or ligament damage
So we have that to hope for
He’s got plenty of time to get ready for the Super Bowl.🤣
Yeah TD Buffalo. Beat the Stej

Why do you got to be a jerk?
I can’t help myself sometimes
I was referencing Milano
I know. I was just being a jerk 🤪
He’s the asshole who took a cheap shot on Tua that gave him his first concussion
Funny
LOL
Dear ESPN,
Do NOT call Matt Milano a “ball hawk”, as he just stood there and did what any good citizen would have done: catching the ball.
I thought of you immediately when he said that
THANK YOU, Hulkster!
Brian in NY says:

————-
EXACTLY!!!
McDaniel would have been chucking the ball there
My favorite Milano play
Wow- they are speculating an Achilles for Rodgers
I never root for injuries to any player, but I wouldn’t mind it in this case.
Man, it would be something else if Rodgers went down for the long haul and this was his stat line for the Jets this season…
0/1 0 0.0 0 0 1-10 39.6
I didn’t know how I’m going to have a conversation tomorrow with all the jests fans I know…
Politely
Wilson just ran back 40 yards – wtf
He saw a milf in the stands
Lol
Grounding takes them out of FG range
That was definitely Intentional grounding
He was out of the tackle box and got the ball to the LOS so not grounding
I thought it was short of the line?
I thought it made the line
He makes a really good point
https://x.com/phincane/status/1701413663293276370?s=61&t=NWZ–WfgKu_dYbC-fKuB3A
I was basically saying the same thing. I can’t gloat.
Oh look at Milano again
Allen looks like shit
Yeah, such a shame 😉
Allen looks really confused out there or is the Jets D just that good?
Little of both
Josh Allen has been a turnover machine in recent times going back to last year.
He’s starting to see the rush he’ll be Jay Cutler the rest of his career lol
Josh Allen
Allen = 💩
Maybe it CAN end in a tie🤷♂️🤔
I hate ties
I don’t mind them if it puts us in first 😎
Josh Allen
This is a stupid call
https://x.com/finfanforlife/status/1701426203641385443?s=61&t=NWZ–WfgKu_dYbC-fKuB3A
Lol
Well that’s different
If Rodgers is going to be out for a while, might be better the jets won
Buffalo going to really be inner fighting now
That may have been the best of all worlds.
Exactly
Yeah in a weird way.
This game is just what we wanted.
The Bills lost and made multiple mistakes in all 3 phases, but the jest lost Rodgers, and Zach still looks like shit.
And Josh Allen looks like Sam Darnold.
That really sucks for Rodgers as a person and player. Forget the Jets.
Saleh just came on to say, ” it’s probably the Achilles, and it’s not good.”
Wow! Not going to buy it until it’s confirmed
Agree
They say after about 5 yrs running QBs start to breakdown, that was about 10 yrs ago, the new guys seem to last about 7
It sounds like Rodgers’ Jets career is 4 snaps. Saleh looked distraught talking about it.
I was still rooting against the Jets, but I suppose this was the better outcome- division loss for Buffalo week one. I think the Jets will be competitive with their D and a solid running game, but Wilson ain’t Rodgers so I think they won’t be there in the end when it matters.
I think the odds to win the AFC East may have shifted last night
That’s embarrassing!
🤣🤣🤣
Travis Wingfield
@WingfieldNFL
Had fun doing this all year in 2022, let’s kick it off again for 23.
@MiamiDolphins
QB Tua Tagovailoa leads the NFL through the first week in:
Passing yards (466)
Yards per attempt+net per DB (10.36)
TD passes (tied with 3)
Sack % (tied at 0%)
4th q comebacks and GW drives (1/1)
First downs (23)
Total EPA (11.1)
He’s also:
2nd in Success rate (55.6)
3rd in total QBR (87.5)
3rd in passer rating (110.0)
I didn’t watch last night. Now I am upset I missed it! Josh Allen melt down with 3 Ints? Rogers hurt in the first quarter and potentially out for the season? Jet’s still win which will be unlikely moving forward without Rogers? What a perfect outcome!
Shame on the Bills. I’ve read a lot of stuff where ‘analysts’ were saying the Bills missed their window, and that their overall quality of personnel was now much lower … maybe last night showed that. Yes, the Jets D is very good … but that’s still a game a legit contender should win.
Love the Fins’ Sunday night game but damn, it is going to be a LONG day waiting for kickoff.
Did someone change the format on purpose?
No, but I noticed something last night during the game. I got a notification that someone liked a comment I had. I don’t even know how to do that. I don’t see a like button for comments. 🤷🏼♀️
I can see it’s looking different now, not sure what’s happening. Maybe WordPress did an update?
I like all your comments….😄
I didn’t know that could be done either
I see the new format now
Maybe it’s just a WordPress change that’s automatic
The weird thing, I can’t see how to like a comment, even now.
I’m signed in, but I have to click to sign in again before I can post anything. I’ll admit, I did try to see how that happened last night, but I didn’t update or change any settings. I don’t know where that is either! Strange 😂
I mentioned Ezukanma’s contributions last Sunday yesterday
It was interesting that he had 2 carries and I think a 3rd that was called back based on a penalty
He’s our biggest WR at 6’2
He also had 10 rushes in his final year at Texas tech
I’m wondering if McDaniel is planning to use him as a sort of poor man’s Deebo Samuel
Something to keep an eye on
He also had the key PI call at the end of the first half
I had a gut feeling!
That’s why I picked him as the surprise player of the year

#Jets QB Aaron Rodgers does, in fact, have a torn Achilles, the MRI has confirmed. He’s out for the season after just four snaps.

Yes I think it is a wordpress update. Fonts are different Also the box text box is now different on the PC. Your avi appears in the lower left hand corner of the comment box with a “Gear” for settings. You can now set DIP switches for “notify me of new posts” Email me new posts” and Email me new comments”
Make sure you turn ALL of those off if you don’t want your inbox spammed with 1000 comments from this blog!!!
The funniest comment about the game last night I’ve seen, Aaron Rodgers didn’t complete a pass to any Jets player, but Josh Allen had 3. 😂

With Aaron Rodgers done for the season, the Jets now will owe the Packers a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Rodgers had to play 65 percent of the snaps this season for the Packers to get the Jets’ 2024 first-round pick. He played four plays.
We should offer to trade Mike White for Breece Hall STRAIGHT UP
Or maybe Dalvin Cook or Quinnen Williams

Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins
1-0
The Dolphins’ performance against the Chargers should absolutely frighten the heck out of the rest of the league. The Fins fell flat offensively when they visited the Bolts last December, but they delivered a pretty big message on Sunday, racking up 536 yards in the shootout win. Miami didn’t go two straight possessions without scoring and crossed Los Angeles’ 30-yard line on every possession but one. I love how Mike McDaniel’s schemes build room for his speedsters to get close to max mph as they get the ball. Most teams can’t deal with the Dolphins’ speed, I suspect. Sure, the defense must tighten up, especially against the run. But this has to be demoralizing game tape for Miami’s opponents to watch
I took a picture of the NFL standings this morning to show my Jets buddy this coming Sat. It’s the only time he will see the Jets on top of the ease ever again! LOL
WOW I did not realize this:
Since entering the league in 2018, Josh Allen leads all players with 82 turnovers.
Sucks that Chris Jones is back with the Chefs*, as he’s the backbone of that Defense.
Sucks for A-Rod and the stej… I don’t wish for injuries to players except for dirty players.
Last time a former NFL MVP QB was lost for the season in week 1 was in 2008 (Tom Brady). We won the division that season.
BWAAAA HAAAA HAAAA HAAAA HAAAAAA!!
Zach Wilson is gonna get destroyed by that Dallas defense next week!
The Chive is on fire this morning. LOL
LOVE THIS!!!
The path has opened
LOL Aaron Rogers Jet’s era
LOVE THIS TOO!!!
Only 3 times in the history of the NFL has a player had 10+ receptions, 200+ yards and 2 TD’s in a game……
TYREEK HILL all three times!
Not that power rankings matter
But 5 is a little low for us nfl.com
IMO er should be 3 behind 49ers and Cowboys who had more impressive wins than us in week 1
And ahead of KC (L) and Philly (almost an L to patriots)
It doesn’t really matter bc it’s power rankings – but basically adapter week 1, it’s mostly style points
I don’t care if KC are the world champs
They lost – come on
Here is the weely Rankings Roundup

Analysis: Have a day, Tua Tagovailoa. Over 460 yards and three touchdowns for the fourth-year quarterback, and over 200 yards receiving for Tyreek Hill. The defense has some adjustments to make after giving up over 230 yards on the ground, but they came through when they were really needed.

Analysis: Tyreek Hill might become the first WR to win the MVP. Hill said one of his career goals is to top 2,000 receiving yards, and after catching 215 yards and two TDs in Week 1, he should feel good about hitting that number. Topping the 2,000-yard mark would not only give Hill the single-season receiving yards record, but it should also make him the first receiver ever to be named NFL MVP.

Analysis: Watch the play action on a pass to Alec Ingold in the second quarter that set the Dolphins up in the red zone. The combination of motion and playfake is so devious that, as Tua Tagovailoa rolls out on the bootleg completely unbothered, he has two open throws to make a few yards apart. Mike McDaniel and offensive coordinator Frank Smith aren’t just creating openings, they’re layering receivers like options on a dessert menu. I remember teams catching on to Chip Kelly, the last coach I can recall having this many open receivers. I don’t think teams will catch up to McDaniel any time soon.

Analysis: Tua Tagovailoa shredded the Chargers for 466 passing yards. Tyreek Hill had 11 receptions for 215 receiving yards and two scores. We already knew the Miami Dolphins’ offense was dangerous, but we’re only one week into the season, and they already had a ceiling game. In Week 2, we’ll see if their defense can take a significant step forward against rival New England.
Pro Football Network
Ranking: 4 Previous: 8
Analysis: The Miami Dolphins are the most entertaining team in the NFL. That offensive speed has never been replicated, and it’s as close to unstoppable as an offense can become. But they’re also far from a perfect product. For as productive as Tua Tagovailoa is in that offense, some of the decisions and throws he makes (and misses) are entirely baffling. But that only makes this team more intriguing. Even if their defense continues to leak like a $5 submarine against the run, they have enough firepower to make up for it and score in an instant. Tyreek Hill is unfair, and the Dolphins have no shame in targeting him three times as often as any other player on the team.
The Sporting News

Analysis: The Dolphins played relentless offense with Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill picking up where they left off with a massive game together and got enough timely defense for Vic Fangio to take a shutout away from the Chargers on the road. Their identity as a dangerous team in the AFC is clear.

Analysis: 10. Dolphins (15): QB Tua Tagovailoa (466 yards and 3 TDs passing) and WR Tyreek Hill (11 catches for 215 yards and 2 TDs) fueled Sunday’s most entertaining game … and Miami didn’t need injured LT Terron Armstead or CB Jalen Ramsey to get off to a 1-0 start. Just wait until Vic Fangio’s defense dials in.

Analysis: Tua Tagovailoa, welcome to the Gigantic NFL Quarterback Contract conversation. Tagovailoa threw for 466 yards, the fourth-most passing yards ever in a season-opening game. The other three guys to do it (Dan Marino, Norm Van Brocklin and Tom Brady) are in the Hall of Fame or headed there. Tyreek Hill had 215 receiving yards, more than the Cardinals, Seahawks, Giants and Bengals had in total offense Sunday.

Analysis: We have to change how we discuss Tua Tagovailoa. Everyone seems to want to find a reason to not put Tagovailoa in the top quarterback tier. But since the start of last season, Tagovailoa has been elite. No disclaimers needed. Sure, he has Tyreek Hill to throw to. Other great quarterbacks have great receivers and they don’t get dinged for it. Sure, Mike McDaniel is a smart coach. Other star quarterbacks have smart play-callers on their side. Let’s stop trying to find reasons to downgrade Tagovailoa and acknowledge that when he’s healthy, he’s everything the Dolphins were hoping for when they drafted him.

Analysis: They might not be in the top spot in the power rankings, but the Dolphins take home the Week 1 award for being the league’s most fun team. This video-game offense picked up exactly where it left off, and didn’t Tua Tagovailoa look awfully confident in the fourth quarter? Combine that with a very fun pass rush, and these guys have huge potential.
