The Dolphins went into the Meadowlands to face the NY Jets at MetLife Stadium on the NFL’s very first Black Friday Game. I loved it because it was our Dolphins we got to watch with no distractions from any other NFL games being played. While the NY Jets aren’t a winning team, they have the type of defense that has given even elite opposing offenses trouble, so my feeling is this was a somewhat a measuring stick game for our team. Could our offense play well against a strong defensive team? The answer was mixed, a little of YES and a little of NO. Our running game was a bright spot, both starter Raheem Mostert and backup Jeff Wilson had success against the Jets. Mostert tallied 20 carries good for 94 yards and a 4.7 YPC average which is a bit below his season average, but excellent considering it was against the Jets defense. Jeff Wilson added 11 carries for 56 yards and a nice 5.1 yards per carry. QB Tua Tagovailoa played well most of the game with the exception of 2 bonehead throws, he finished 21-30, 243 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT’s, one of them a costly pick six. If not for the heroic 99 yard INT return by S Jevon Holland, that pick 6 could have had more impact on this game, but in truth, the Hell Mary pick six took the wind out of the Jets aircrafts wings.
To be fair, the Jets offense was not in a good place coming into this game. The Jets brass finally pulled the plug on QB Zach Wilson, and one could question the timing of the move. Believe me, I’m not advocating for Zach Wilson, but they could have made the change much earlier if they didn’t believe in him, and at 4-6, the Jets were not out of it. I find it hard to believe many Jets fans were looking to Tim Boyle to be the savior of their season, but that’s precisely the position the Jets put him in. In 2022, it was Zach Wilson that beat the Dolphins at MetLife 40-17, so maybe one more game wouldn’t have been such a bad idea. It’s possible Aaron Rodgers has so much influence on what the Jets do that they put his understudy in for this game. Tim Boyle wasn’t all that bad, and you could make the case that the Hell Mary was just a stroke of bad luck, mainly because it was. I don’t think either Jets QB would have won on Friday, because the real hero was the Dolphins defense, the one we have long waited to see.
We all know OLB Jaelan Phillips is done for the season with a torn achilles injury, yet another non-contact season ending injury for the NFL to ponder. Before Jaelan Phillips exited the game, he left his mark with 4 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed, 2 QB hits. Phillips was really coming on and playing his best football, so it’s with sadness that we say goodbye to him before finishing out the season. The blessing is that we do have a couple of capable players behind him to replace him. I know most of us are down on Emmanuel Ogbah, and of course his playing time could still be limited because of Andrew Van Ginkel, but this really is a great opportunity for Ogbah to reclaim his status as a professional pass rusher. Ogbah does have 4 sacks this season with only 10 total tackles, this while playing only 21% of the snaps on defense. He’s as fresh as he will ever be, and this is a perfect chance to resurrect his career. It absolutely hurts this team to lose a rising star like Jaelan Phillips, but having Andrew Van Ginkel and Emmanuel Ogbah as depth is wonderful.
Let’s get back to the defense. The Dolphins secondary at this very moment now looks to be one of the top units in the NFL. The Jalen Ramsey effect is startling. 4 games, 3 INT’s. The pass rush seems so much better when receivers aren’t getting open lickety split. Xavien Howard is healthy, and CB Kader Kohou now looks like a beast again playing the slot, and of course, it’s fantastic to Jevon holland healthy along with DeShon Elliott. This great secondary absolutely transforms the pass rush. QB’s now facing this secondary can’t really throw to either side confidently, and while Kader Kohou might have shown some holes out on the boundary, he looks more than comfortable to be back on the inside where he made hay last season. The Dolphins were relentless Friday afternoon, tormenting the Jets with 7 sacks, 8 tackles for loss, 2 INT’s (one for a TD), and 1 forced fumble. THAT’s how you impose your will. It was something to see, and hopefully this continues to trend, especially against the teams that actually are a threat offensively. No offense to Breece Hall of Garrett Wilson, both who are excellent players, but Tim Boyle was not the answer, especially burdened by their porous offensive line. I feel for both Hall and Wilson who must be so frustrated, but only so much.
I’m not going to focus on next weeks quite yet, that happens Friday, but just enjoy this victory. Although not all the things we wanted to see, for example see our offense play at a high level against a top NFL defensive unit, we got most of it. Tua Tagovailoa wasn’t bad, he just wasn’t great, maybe not even good. If you’re throwing to the flat, and I’ve seen some great QB’s make the same throw, same mistake, you had better put some mustard on that throw when the defender is within 5 yards and closing. I didn’t hate the playcall, I hated the execution. It looked like a lazy throw as if there weren’t a defender for 10 yards near the receiver, but it’s just one throw. As it turned out, as I’ve already mentioned, Jevon Holland stepped up and made the play of the day, the 99 yard Hell Mary pick six TD INT. It was glorious! Great win, and a great team win. This how good teams win in the NFL, if one unit doesn’t get it done, the other unit picks it up and takes the W.
GO DOLPHINS!!!

I just hate that these Bills keep lowering our SOS number.
Dang it!
Ours is still better than Dallas. lol I know wrong conference but damn.
What’s really crazy to me is the one loss the Eagles have is to the jests.
Right !?
Refs are already putting their thumb on the scale
Not a great year for them nope
That was bullshit
NFL needs to change replay rules so everything can be reviewed
I don’t even care if Herbert’s foot was out or not. The location the Ravens player targeted was a yard out of bounds. If that isn’t a hit out of bounds what the hell is?
How is there no flag for catch interference?! WTF?
Fuck Baltimore!
It seems the refs see what they want to see.😩
By not wanting to effect the game they are
Failing they are
Her-Bert is suckking!
Chargers are overmatched
Allen is a moron. Get out of bounds there, smh
Guess it doesn’t matter anyway
As many mistakes as the Chargers made, they’re still in this game.
This is typical Chargers though.
yep
Baltimore is playing pretty good right now. It’s gonna be tough for any team to beat them. I can’t wait for our game against them. Should be fun.
It’s there for the taking
And the Chargers do what they always do
Always it’s crazy.
We beat Wash and Tenn, and Buff loses to either KC or Dallas, our Home game against Jets can clinch the division
We haven’t lost at home and 4 of our last 6 games are at home. That’s no guarantee because we have plenty of tough opponents down the stretch. We should beat our next three opponents though. But one game at a time.😉
the division is in our grasp
Winning the division is the 4 seed and at least one home playoff game
We need to do better than the 4 seed. I feel like the way this team is designed right now, we need home field as much as possible. Unless Jeff Wilson can be the physical runner you need in cold weather games, or maybe Chris Brooks comes back, but otherwise I feel like we’re not a physical enough team to match up against more physical teams in their house.
and in the cold
We’ll find out about the physicality of this team when we travel to the Ravens in Dec.
Ahhh, this is what a comfy driver seat feels like. Nice!
4 3 loss teams in AFC #1 seed likely to come down to tie breaker
Lol….The ripped mad-dog Dolphin image looks like the rabid Mike E. fan that he is…oh my!

What kind of BS is going on the the blog now?
be silly if we win the next 3 (@ commanders, titans and jests at home)
and buffalo loses any of its final 5 (which includes (@chiefs, @chargers, Dallas, patriots and @🐬) – we win the division
I don’t like how video’s show up as a link now instead of being able to just click and watch.
wordpress keeps tinkering with its own format.
I don’t know why they do that – no one is asking them to
I would like nothing more than to win out and get the 1 seed
but it’s a tall order
the 4 seed gets us a home playoff game and other than Buffalo the wildcard teams don’t really look like much IMO
so the 4 seed is not so bad. There’s actually virtually no difference between 3 seed and 4 seed unless they play each other
2 seed will get you 2 home playoff games and the possibility of home afc championship game if the 1 seed loses 1
I mention the 4 seed bc the reality is that the first priority – win the division, then it becomes about seeding
it’s likely that if we go 11-3, as most of us expect, we will have the division wrapped up and can do no worse than 4
and the final 3 games will be about playoff seeding
Especially the ravens game
but if we beat baltimore in Baltimore in week 16 – don’t you think we
would be able to beat them in January if we meet them in the playoffs?
If we beat Baltimore, and lose to bills and cowboys and end up in the 4 seed – tha path to the afc championship isn’t so tough for us
wtf happens to my spacing
WordPress is diving me crazy
Anyway – the good news is, usually this tome
of year we are talking about how we make the playoffs,
now we are shifting into a team contemplating playoff positioning
WordPress has gone to complete shit
Film Breakdown: The Miami Dolphins Run Game Showed Excellent Promise vs Jets for end of season run – YouTube
So the stat everyone loved before this weekend was the Phins haven’t beat a team with a winning record and and only beat teams that did not.
After this weekend we have lost to a team that does not have winning record (The Bills) and beat one that did (the Broncos).
Film Breakdown: Jerome Baker Played His Best Game of the Season vs Jets – YouTube
It really sucks that we can start the day in first place with the number one seed win and drop to forth place by the end of the weekend.
Why does is suck? We were just the first of the top 4 to play and win. The other 3 did as well. Bills lost though. We have a nice lead in the division.
Agreed
Mike, not sure we can’t win on the road in cold weather. I guess we’ll see but we are who we are.
Why can’t we win on the road or in the cold? We have an excellent running game and our defense is playing well. I don’t think there’s a team we can’t beat. That doesn’t mean we will beat every team but I think we can play with any team.
Agreed
The main concern I have is the health of the OL. We can’t afford to keep losing them. You can see even the backups are well coached. But can’t keep going to lower tiers.

Alright if we have a home playoff game can we do a playoff fest?
that sounds Oinky!
I’d consider it. Much better than going to a playoff game in 5 degree weather. 😂
5 degrees weather? What is wrong with that?
We need someone that could hook us up with some tickets
Ken – I think our run game has been more of the outside finesse and speed game, which doesn’t always translate to running in cold/bad weather. Maybe with a fully healthy O-line it’s possible, but we’re just not a physical run game at all.
Mostert is second only to McAffrey in rushing yards in the NFL and he is #1 in rushing TDs. It’s not just a finesse running game. You don’t put up those type of numbers, especially the TDs by just being a finesse running team.
I was going to say the same
I think our running game relies on speed on the outside and is not an up the middle physical attacking run game
But I don’t think it matters
I don’t think the game is played that way anymore this, the patriots were never really a great running team
the running game is about balance on offense in the modern nfl
if we have to play in some kind of ice bowl in December, that’s maybe once a season. I would not build a team around that.
Finesse teams can win in this league
I think we are a finesse team and I don’t think it’s anything we should be worried about
it honestly doesn’t matter who is 1 through 4 in the seeding until the very last week of the season
I’m sure it will be up for grabs
we really just have to win our division and keep pace with the other teams until the the last couple of weeks
What is this new fuckery with the comments? This little box opens up and asks to choose a block. Not liking this!

word press is trying to ruin our 2023 Dolphin Experience
Yeah, WordPress is acting a fool right now. This isn’t cool at all.
I don’t really go on other blogs but I’m pretty sure it’s happening to every blog
it’s a few months now that every day it seems like there is something different that no one asked for
I’m absolutely sure it’s a universal thing going on with WordPress: 100% agreed.
I can’t post the Twitter post but we just added JPP bc we lost out on Barnett

Is that the guy who blew off half his hand with a firework?
The one and the same.
That feels like it was 10 years ago, although it is probably less. I’m surprised he is still in the league.
I can’t post links or retrieve posts anymore…wtf
he’s had 5.5 sacks in the last 3 years
so I would expect much from him
but I think his role is just to spell some of the starters
Pigster and all,
To post a tweet, just put a space before the tweet address.

I’ve not checked the WordPress forum recently, I got frustrated with it when these changes started a few months ago. I didn’t think they could make it worse, yet here we are.
If ya can’t read Ian’s tweet I posted above, here’s what it states…
Ian Rapoport
@RapSheet
Sources: The #Dolphins are expected to sign free agent pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul off the #Saints practice squad and onto their 53-man roster. A big-name edge addition after the Jaelan Phillips injury. The Florida native lands in Miami.

J-P-P !!! Definitely just depth, and probably not a good sign for Cameron Goode
“You down wit JPP? Yeah you know me!” 🙂
Yeah booooooooy!! 🤣
😆 😆
Piggy – I hope you’re right, but the Ravens and Eagles are tough team because they’re so physical. I think we’ll get a good measure on what is true when we play them. If we can beat them you’re most likely right, but if we get shut down, I would say I’m most likely right.
Football Outsiders has turned into a pay site, just as PFF, but for some general articles. What I miss about Football Outsiders? They charted each run a RB had… as in wide-left, left Tackle, between left Tackle and left Guard, left guard, etc, etc.
I’d be willing to bet that Jeff Wilson has had MAJOR success running inside, more so than Mostert (not that Mostert can’t run inside). Wilson seems to be our inside runner or ‘bruiser’ back (not to say Wilson can’t run outside).
I think we have a very dangerous combo between Mostert and Wilson… and Achane is coming back very soon.
JPP is a vet edge guy. That’s the type of move the Ravens would make.
They did. He was with the Ravens for a stint
There you have it.🙂
Another move the Ravens would make? Adding a DT to get those mind-numbing reps for Wilkins and Sieler down. We need them to be fresh as can be come the playoffs.
Carolina firing Frank Reich this early is bizarre to me. He’s a good coach. He had Indy close but injuries and the QB position were a major problem.
Bryce Young looks over matched. Not Reich’s fault. He was handed an incomplete team. The owner is a doofus.
^
Yeah, doofus is the right word. The new head coach gets 11 games? Why bother? Might as well change out coaching staffs every few weeks.
Makes you wonder if the owner is too hands on, it created friction, and that is the bigger problem in Carolina.
Didn’t the same owner pay Matt Rhule a boatload because he turned around Baylor?🤣
I think the market for Akiem Hicks is really getting hot. Hoping we don’t wait too long to sign him.
Whoever made the decision to draft Young over Stroud deserves to be fired. I thought that at the time of the draft and not just in hindsight
Young was pretty much the consensus #1 QB prospect ahead of Stroud. It wasn’t some off the wall, crazy decision.
I thought Young was overhyped.
Young rose quickly at end of last season for all the wrong reasons. Stroud supposedly dropped because he didn’t do all that great on the Wonderlic. But if anyone watched film it wasn’t even close. Stroud has athleticism that Young will never have
Yep and lots of people said the same thing.
I don’t evaluate college players, so I’m not disagreeing with your assessment of the two QBs coming out. Young was clearly the wrong choice in retrospect, and you were obviously right in thinking that at the time.
But teams miss on top players, especially QBs, all the time. I’m just disagreeing that missing on a player that was considered by the majority to be the #1 pick is grounds for firing…unless that GM has been missing for awhile…I don’t know anything about the Panthers GM, not even his name (so maybe I shouldn’t even be in this convo, lol)

It’s really a pain to put together a decent comment with this stupid comment box the way it is right now.

Hopefully, it is just some update growing pains/glitches, because this is garbage.

wow….wordpress is crazy
dear WordPress… if it ain’t broke , don’t fix it.
Duh
JPP IS 275 lbs. With 95 career sacks. He can still set the edge and throw TEs and RBs like toys
and he tweets he’s coming home. He knows the weather , and we have a bunch of home games coming up.
I looked into this – the setting for this behavior is definitely off for the blog itself. So it must be a WordPress issue. I’ll see if there’s anything else that can be done for now.
I did check on the forum, lots of comments about it. Didn’t see any that were positive, just people complaining about it. No one likes this.

ROSTER CUTS
WR John Ross was waived from the reserve/retired list today, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported. Ross, the No. 9 pick in the 2017 draft, wants to make a return to the league, and the move allows him to try and find a new home.
We should sign him to a futures contract with his 4.22 speed.

McDaniel clarifies the story of how he met his wife, since Al Michaels made it seem like he genuinely threatened to cut a player over dancing with a girl that caught his eye, smh. It seemed to me at the time that Michaels probably didn’t put the right spin on the story when he was telling it.
“I feel like I was painted out to be a D-bag,” McDaniel clarifies. “It wasn’t like that at all. It was nice and easy. We were celebrating as a team. I think Steve Baylark was well aware when I made that joke in jest it was more important to me than it was to him. And I’m pretty sure I was right. I have a family now.”

I’m testing it out.
Ryder’s breakdown on JPP showed some positive on what he will bring to the team. I like the signing.
I like the toughness and strength on the edge that JPP brings.
Looks like we can still use emojis, for now. I’m sure WordPress will f that up as soon as they become aware….🫤

There are lots of comments in the WordPress forums about this block editor. No one likes it is the overall consensus. I’ve not seen anything positive about it. WordPress has also turned off comments on all the threads I have looked at/posted in. It’s ridiculous. They make a change that no one wanted or asked for. It needs to be rolled back.
sometimes the tech industry is ass backwards
they mess with stuff just to make a change , when no one wanted it. It drives me crazy

Former Raiders CB Marcus Peters has cleared waivers and now is a free agent. He can sign with any team immediately.
Naples, CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is giving up his final year in college for the NFL.
———————-
I am not surprised. I think he is NFL ready. A tackling machine.
I am getting to the point of being sold on ILB Jeremiah Trotter Jr especially seeing him this year vs Notre Dame where he had 11 tackles with 2 sacks and a pick 6. I don’t think he lasts to our 2nd round pick.
In 2 years starting he has 176 tackles, 12 sacks, 4 INT’s with 2 pick 6 and 10 total PD’s.
The biggest problem though is he wore his dad’s NFL jersey number at Clemson and wants to wear it playing in the NFL. #54
Will he be there at Pick 32?
That is the area he is being projected. Very late 1st to mid 2nd round. ILB position is not that good this draft (again) so he could go sooner than later.
I think UNC QB Drake Maye should stay in college another year. He doesn’t seem ready.
Ken, I for got to respond about Quinn Ewers. He is a red shirt sophomore. He was at Ohio State his red shirt year then transferred to play at Texas the last 2 years. So he is draft eligible. He has 3 years since graduating from HS which also makes him eligible. That said, latest is he is undecided on if he is going to enter the draft or stay at Texas.
Draft eligible players have until January 15th to declare.
I think Ewers enters the draft. I think it would be a mistake for him not to. Arch Manning will be a sophomore at Texas and he could lose his starting job next year. I think there will be a lot of pressure to start Manning.
That didn’t sound right. Ewers could lose his staring job to Manning.
Forgot about Manning. I just don’t think Ewers is ready but that may force his hand
I agree, like Maye, don’t think he is ready but, exactly, his hand may be forced.
I see Maye as being more ready. He has had 2 full years as a starter
At least a weak SOV helps in some way. Of the six 8-3 teams, we pick before all of them in the draft. We pick at #25 right now. Pats still #3, Jets moved up to #8 and Bills up to #16.
But when you have a record as good as ours the draft position really comes down to how well in the playoffs. I’d be willing to get a win and take the hit in draft position.
“Of course, we’ve got the perfect team to do it. The way our head coach prepares us each and every week, it’s next level, man. … I’ve won a Super Bowl and I feel like this is the better team than when we won a Super Bowl back when I was on K.C.”
— Tyreek
wow … gives me the shivers
I know we also were 8-3 last year,
but I never felt as confident as I do this year.
