Two games left and hard to not look at how the possible scenarios are unfolding. Here are two that were set by beating the Boys.

“The Dolphins’ victory eliminated the possibility of the them ending as the seventh seed because they’re already assured of having one of the best six records in the conference.”

“Of course, the Dolphins also can’t be the No. 4 seed because they’ve already clinched a better record than any team from the AFC South, where Jacksonville, Houston and Indianapolis are tied for first at 8-7.”

Josh McDaniels is SO bad, I doubt he will ever get another shot as an NFL HC. He’s absolutely terrible.

For the second week in a row (I’m NOT wishing for it), I’m predicting that Lamar Jackson gets injured… against that ferocious 49ers Defense. Lamar is overdue to get injured, and he got PUMMELED last week.

Cav, is next week for the one seed no matter what happens tonight?

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

No, if the Ravens win, then even if we beat them, we may still need to beat the Bills because the Ravens could still end up with fewer losses than us.

        Ok that’s what I thought
You said it best last night, we win four in row and we’re in the Super Bowl, simple and easy to understand

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

In those terms it’s so tantalizing!

I was trying to remember the last time we were the #1 seed in the AFC. Was it ’84?

That sucks about Waddle. Maybe Claypool can step up- this is why we traded for him, no?

  37. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

  41. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Ravens currently have a 7-3 conference record, same as the Dolphins. The Niners are out of conference, so a loss tonight doesn’t change the conference record.

If the Ravens lose tonight, they stay the #1 seed due to a better SOV than the Dolphins.

Dolphins did have the #1 seed in ’84
    ———-
    Confirmed.
The last time we had the #2 seed was in ’92.
The last time we had the #3 seed was in ’08.
The last time we had the #4 seed was in ’01.

  47. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

If the Ravens lose tonight, we can lock up the #1 seed next week if the Browns lose to the Jest. (Not likely, but possible)

If the Ravens lose tonight, we would also still get the #1 seed losing to Buffalo if the Browns lose to the Bengals in week 18.

If the Ravens win tonight, then we EITHER have to beat Buffalo week 18 or the Ravens need to lose to the Steelers in week 18.

This game absolutely matters. The Ravens losing this game gives us more paths to the #1, including the ONLY path to securing the #1 next week.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Put more simply- if the Ravens lose tonight, there is a possibility we’ll be able to rest anyone we want to in week 18. If the Ravens win tonight, we will be required to play to win against the Bills.

  48. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Are the Ravens really this good?

  49. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Purdy blowing chunks

  50. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

4th INT for Purdy! Tua is going to end up being the #1 QB in the NFL… which puts Tua in the MVP conversation.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

We’ll get a direct comparison next week too. How will Tua and the Fins fare against this defense after the game Purdy and the Niners are playing right now- at home too.

  51. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Beat the next opponent is every team’s goal. There is no juggernaut that can’t be beat.

  52. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Ravens are just outplaying the Niners in all facets. And kicking them up and down the field physically.

  58. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I can’t deny this sentiment by Lorenzo Reyes, USA Today…

“But, against Dallas, Miami converted just 1 of 4 trips inside the red zone.

Going back the previous two games, Miami’s red zone efficiency improves only slightly, combining to go 5 for 15 over its last three. Goal-to-go scenarios are most concerning, where the Dolphins have simply stalled. Against the Cowboys, Miami went 1 for 3, and this comes two weeks after it went 1 for 4 in a loss to the Tennessee Titans. Coach Mike McDaniel has often called plays that move laterally, the pace and urgency slows, and Miami, at times, seems to overthink its operation. That has happened on third-and-shorts as well, and the Dolphins finally self-corrected late in the game with a quick screen that got Tyreek Hill open space and a power push rush up the middle with Jeff Wilson. It was a huge victory. The Dolphins clinched their second consecutive postseason berth. But their ineffectual short-yardage execution is exactly the type of problem that gets good teams eliminated early.”

  59. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

We definitely have our work cut out for us over the next two weeks…

  60. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Hoping we have a healthy Robert Hunt and Jevon Holland for both of those games

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Agreed. I think Hunt is more important though. I feel like the DBs are holding it down for the most part. We need Hunt to get the running game going again.

  61. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I would have loved to have Hunt for this game.

  62. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Krishna, that was an interesting post at 6:32 and I agree. We do suck in the short yardage area recently and mainly due to the play calling. I think playing with backups on the interior OL has affected what MM calls in those situations.

  63. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Our updated outlook is pretty straight forward:

Beat the Ravens and Bills – #1 seed locked
Beat the Ravens and lose to the Bills – #1 or #2 seed locked (likely #2)

Lose to the Ravens and beat the Bills – #2 seed locked
Lose to both the Ravens and Bills – very likely the #6 seed and play the Chiefs in KC

Win our next 4 games – Super Bowl LOCKED

  64. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

So we win 1 of the next 2 games, we win the division.

We win out, we win the division and AFC.

  65. Wyoming85's avatar Wyoming85 says:

Looks like nobody is gong to rest players

  66. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We need a mostly healthy OL, not 4 starters out, to reach our goals, so anything these USA Todayers write means nothing

  67. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Armstead, Jones, Eichenberg, Hunt and Jackson starting changes everything

Also helps to have Waddle and Mostert

Add Holland to that and we should be able to at least go down to the wire with anyone

Although what we saw from Lamar last night, should scare every other team

  68. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

There were some big holes on our pass rush that a quicker QB like Lamar Jackson will exploit. We need to have a spy.

  69. Wyoming85's avatar Wyoming85 says:

    There’s this I guess?

      I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think it is, I don’t like playing the same teams over and over again

Usually that’s a edge to the defense

On the other hand, both teams are a little less innovative on offense than we are and they have struggled at times to score points

  78. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The jags look on track to miss the postseason

  79. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Lamar needs to be kept in the pocket at all costs. They’ve designed their offense so that when he scrambles it’s like a broken play and his teammates have practiced to just find an open spot. If Lamar can buy an extra 2-3 seconds by scrambling out of the pocket it’s almost impossible for your defenders to cover. Somebody’s gonna get open. Keep him in the pocket. I don’t really care if you sack him. Just don’t let him buy time. He’s a different passer inside the pocket.

  80. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I hate the Ravens more than any other team inside of our division. Losing to them drives me nuts. I want a double digit victory.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      I’m with you

Hey are practically a division foe

      We play them every year
For a while they have gotten the better of us
But lately we’ve received the wins

We’ve actually met the ravens 18 times and are 8-10 all time

  81. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We run similar concepts on offense that the 49ers run. So we’ll have good video on how the Ravens played them.

  82. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I think on the DL, ours are better than the 49er’s. Their interior DT’s looked fat and slow. They never rushed, they just stayed put at the LOS playing slapass with whoever was blocking them. Like they were the spies waiting there to stop Jackson once the edge rushers closed in and he started to run. They had absolutely no push up the middle.

Wilkins and Seiler are much different, play quicker and non-stop. Their OL will be watching our stunting on tape. I think the Ravens will still have trouble with our rush. We just need to make sure we have a spy to get Lamar. Like I said earlier, watching Ryder’s video, we just barely got Dak a couple times when he had a gaping hole to scramble through. I’m not so sure we will be able to stop Jackson from escaping through holes like that, like we did Dak.

  83. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Niners DL is better than ours. That doesn’t mean we can’t stop Lamar but it won’t be because we have better talent. We don’t

  84. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The Ravens got a couple of injuries from last night’s game. S Kyle Hamilton (knee) and G Kevin Zeitler (thigh). Neither finished the game last night

  85. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I think the better D wins this game. And, hopefully, our D is fresher vs their quick turnaround.

  86. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

I’d rather not need 50+ yard FGs. 😂

  87. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’d say the point spread gets bigger as the week goes on. I think all the experts are going to pick the Ravens, we’re not going to get a lot of respect which is fine by me. Let everyone expect the Ravens to win, and then we just steal the game and we take the W.

  88. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    I think I keep replying to myself…lol

  89. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Maybe, but the interior of the SF DL was the weak spot of their defense last night.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

So at least for the time being, no more Purdy or Dak for MVP. Tua has now entered the convo once again… and it’s he vs Lamar come Sunday.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Purdy is still #1 in QB rating, but Tua has closed the gap.

The MVP race is simple. If Tua leads our team in a win against Jackson and the Ravens in Baltimore, then finishes off the season with a win against the Bills, then there is your MVP.
