Here’s the deal Dolphins fans. The NFL Free Agency period begins in FIVE DAYS, Wednesday March 13th. I have no inside information on what our front office is doing, planning, hoping to accomplish, but I will tell you this. For those of you who want to see Tua get a $50M per year extension, if that contract is not signed and completed before March 13, the start of NFL Free Agency, then just scrap it, and let the kid play on his 5th year contract. I’m going to be as transparent as I can. If we don’t have the cap savings and money available to try and sign free agents, most notably, our own players who most absolutely deserve to be re-signed, then there’s no good, intelligent, logical reason to give him a contract at all. We need that money in hand, before teams with tons of cap space swoop in and sign our players, and other equivalent players like them are all gone. Here’s the simple logic, we couldn’t get past good teams with a talented roster, we’re not going to get past good teams with a severely diminished roster.
We signed journeyman TE Jonnu Smith and the Dolphins fans rejoice. Like they say in the south, where Jonnu most recently played in Atlanta, “Bless Your Heart”. If Jonnu was just an add after we signed DT Christian Wilkins (or a player of his caliber) and likewise for OG Robert Hunt, fine. We need every dollar and while it’s not that Jonnu Smith can’t help us, it’s just odd to be spending money we don’t have. It’s actually shocking to me that we had ZERO touchdowns from our TE’s in 2023. Durham Smythe is basically a #2 TE, and Julian Hill is a project that I believe might be overrated. Tanner Conner is probably a never will be, but somehow he’ll shuttle back and forth between the practice squad and the 53 man roster. Truth is, none of this matters until we have a solid O-line, and right now, we are so far away from that being that case. Our starting LT is still on the fence between retiring and coming back. We have no LG, Liam Eichenberg is our OC as it stands today, we have no RG, and we have RT Austin Jackson. So many excuses were rifled at Tua detractors due to the perceived inefficiencies of the offensive line, and we have some big holes to fill just to claw back to where we were last season.
Despite what some of our fans think here, Christian Wilkins is probably going to go Day 1 of Free Agency. It will happen even faster if the first domino falls, DT Chris Jones re-signs with the Chiefs. Some team is going to throw a boatload of cash at Christian Wilkins, and unless it’s us, he’s gone. That would be a damn shame folks. Some potentially good news is that FA OG Robert Hunt posted a picture of Hard Rock Stadium from the Dolphins practice facility which could be taken as a positive sign that he intends to come back to Miami. “Dark Mike” thinks he could be taking one last look. One thing that could work in our favor from what I’ve heard is OC Connor Williams who is rehabbing from a torn ACL is prepared to be patient in Free Agency and not take a lower contract because of the potential of him not being available early in the season.
Back to Tua, and I can hear the groans already, but it needs to be said. There are QB’s out there in the NFL that can take over a game and practically will their team to victory. Patrick Mahomes has done it so many times, we expect it. Josh Allen, who is not nearly as accurate as our QB Tua Tagovailoa is another QB capable of doing what it takes to win. SFO QB Brock Purdy, at a young age has shown that ability, in big games to do what needs to be done. If we’re going to put a lesser product on the field this season, and signs are pointing in that direction right now, it’s probably the most foolish thing we can do to throw a contract somewhere in the realm of $50M per season to Tua Tagovailoa. He’s simply not one of those QB’s stated above. If one player was OUT that was the reason why we lost. If any of you expect him to play better with less, and he would have to because even if Christian Wilkins was not a FA, we have huge question marks as to when both of our pass rushing OLB’s, Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips will be available to play, and play well. We bid good-bye to long tenured CB Xavien Howard, and while we have DB Jalen Ramsey on one side, we have no bonafide player to pencil in opposite Ramsey. We have 1 Safety on the roster, (Jevon Holland), and I might add he’s been grumbling about getting paid. He’s set to make about $4.3M this season and will be a FA in 2025. At inside LB we have David Long, backup Duke Riley, and backup to the backup Channing Tindall.
The 2024 NFL Draft is April 25th. In a year where we have no cap money, we also have no draft picks. Well, that’s an exaggeration, but with so many holes to fill, the Dolphins go to Detroit armed with picks #21 (RD 1), #55 (RD 2), and then hang around until RD 5 as so many good players will be off the board, but we pick again at #157 (RD 5), #186 (RD 6), #200 (RD 6), and finally #236 (RD 7). Offensive line seems to be the favorite choice for pick #21, and it seems like OC Jackson Powers-Johnson from Oregon or Duke OC Graham Barton have been the favorites. Both are considered plug and play guys who will start immediately. If we’re unsuccessful re-signing DT Christian Wilkins, I’d expect DT would be our next priority, you have to win in the trenches. T’Vondre Sweat is a possibility, but he’d be more of a replacement for NT Raekwon Davis , not DT Christian Wilkins. DT Braden Fiske from Florida State would be more of a Christian Wilkins type player, and Kris Jenkins’ son, Kris Jenkins also fits that bill, but both of these defensive tackles are not the pedigree of Christian Wilkins.
I had seen rumors early on and before the Chiefs tagged CB L’Jarius Sneed that the Dolphins were interested in him. Now that they’ve tagged him, it seems less likely, but for some reason the rumor mill loves to throw WR Jaylen Waddle’s name into the mix. I can’t see that, that just opens up another hole and takes away a huge part of our offense to shore up the defense. It’s like putting your fingers in a place that’s leaking in 11 places, when you only have 10 fingers. Oh, we’ve signed two DT’s, Isaiah Mack from the Baltimore Ravens, a part time player, and i stress part time, only 22% of the defensive snaps over his 4 year career. We also signed DT Daviyon Nixon from the Carolina Panthers, another part time player (18%) of the snaps on defense. We have such an uphill climb just to get back to the roster that couldn’t win big games, it’s so darn hard to expect anything good in this upcoming season. Honestly, if Chris Grier came out and said “I swung for the fences last year, and we didn’t make it, so from here on in, I’m going to be more fiscally responsible, we’re going to take a step back this season and be ready to compete in ’25”. I think I could handle it. That would obviously include Tua playing on his 5th year contract and showing whether he’s capable of taking the next step, although with a weakened roster, not sure if it would necessarily fair. I don’t know if Grier has some magic tricks he’s going to spring on us and somehow save the season, but it’s looking bleak mates. Sorry, it just is.
GO DOLPHINS!!!

foist!
For those of you who want to see get a $50M per year extension
you don’t even want to say his name that’s how bad it is.
LMAO!! For he who shall not be named!!!
Of Jonnu was just an add after we signed IF
actuallu
Thanks MikeE! Right with you!
Thanks Mike!
Forget Hunt now that bars are being set.
Rams re-signing guard Kevin Dotson to three-year, $48M deal
Ezra Cleveland just re-signed with JAX for a 3YR/$24M deal. Maybe somewhere in between?
Rocko – Thanks for the edit pal!
Thanks Mike E. I’ve not read yet but I love the photo. 😂
I was trying to portray this, had to look through so many photos, but this one with the Dolphins colored books and the guy disheveled after falling down the steps was just perfect! 😆
This team and MM seems to be more interested in flash over substance. We don’t need more weapons. There’s only one ball. I hope we start to see a plan for building this team from the inside out. If we don’t start building substantially along the LOS this team is going nowhere. This game is very simple. Stop stroking your ego and start focusing on what’s gonna help you win.
I hope we start to see some sort of coherent plan come together soon.
We didn’t need a TE?
We fell apart late in the season, because of injuries
Hill’s ankle really slowed us down
Lack of a big redzone/3rd down target hurt as well
More evidence that Grief should be shot. (I am over the firing stage, I think capital punishment is deserved at this point)
of course this was probably at the recommendation of Danny Crossman….(who should have been fire two years ago!)
Piggy,
Was that what you got from my post?
That was Steve, not Piggy, but I agree.
Agree with you Randy
We all agree we need help in the trenches, but to say we don’t need any more weapons is absurd
And to say we should build from the inside out, when we’ve already committed so much cap is hindsight
Mike E,
Besides your feelings about “he who shall not be named” (LOL) , I agree with your sentiments regarding our ’24 team as it currently stands. Doesn’t look good and there are only a few ways out of this mess… none of which will be popular with the fan base.
Thanks M – I don’t need to be right. Nothing would make me happier than Grier either re-signing Wilkins or Hunt or replacing them with equal or even better players, filling out our O-line properly, same for the D-line, re-signing DeShon Elliot or an equivalent player, and same for Jerome Baker, finding an upgrade or similar player. Then he has to try and find a replacement for or re-sign AVG. That’s an awful lot of work to do, right?
Oh, and if he does all that and of course has to re-sign Tua, so be it.
In ’24, having a good Punter will be much more important than it was last season. When we have no O-line, and Tua has no time, we’ll be punting much more frequently than last season.
That’s funny, I was thinking the EXACT same thing!
Except our P sucks
Herd – You read it yet, or still ogling the picture? lol
My bad! I get piggy and Steve’s pics mixed up.
I generally forget a lot of posts anyway when Friday rolls around and I get a few drinks in me…
is it just me or does that Jake Bailey contract seem like a lot more $ than the average punter makes?
anyone know if that’s right?
it is based on cap
do you mean it’s higher than usual bc of the cap increase?
no he has the 13th highest cap hit for punters this year

Good plan Omar
I STRONGLY disagree with #3 & #7. Other than that? Not really a genius plan. Any blogger here would come up with as much.
Not me…. 🤣😂
And again, didn’t read it….
But some things I just know.
Iowa’s punter is really good. He was a serious weapon for Iowa. Our offense was so bad, and he flipped the field for us dozens of times. I’d draft him in the third round. Maybe. Lol
steve,
I like being absurd. It makes me happy. Tua does need a nooky blankey, so I’m okay with the move. I’m just hoping we see a whole lot more focus on other areas. This signing really does nothing for me.

Omar’s definitely echoing most of my thoughts on how to get out of our current cap mess, but he’s still kicking the cap can down the road. We may need to be much more radical, as in trading one of our studs for picks NOW.
… as in trading one of our studs for BOTH current and future cap space now… in addition to getting more draft picks NOW.
And in doing so before FA officially opens next week, we would still have time to retain Wilkins and/or Hunt.
CBS Sports (Bryant McFadden) predicts that Christian Wilkins will be signed by the Patsies*. *sigh*
Officially no comp picks for us again this year. More proof of Grief’s incompetence. PLEASE Ross! PLEASE pass away or sell the team so we can have a shot at a competent GM!
More good news! Thanks Grief!
Regarding Robert Hunt, Barry reports: “A source said Friday that Hunt’s return to the Dolphins isn’t looking very good unless the Dolphins suddenly can come up with enough cap space and financial resources to compete with offers expected to exceed $15 million annually. The Dolphins and Hunt have preserved a very good relationship through the negotiating process, but Miami — which is well over the salary cap — doesn’t appear in position to compete at the high end with other teams in a guard market that’s exploding, unless the front office suddenly changes its approach.”
unless the front office suddenly changes its approach.
————————–
Yeah, like signing a TE we don’t need and overpaying a freaking punter.
From Grief:
“We’ve been in communication since the offseason began (and) we’re going to talk to his agent here this week,” Grier told a group of South Florida media members in Indianapolis for the scouting combine. “Our goal is to try and get something done. (Agent) Ryan Williams has been great. Tua has been great. We’ll see. There is no timeline on it. At the end of the day, you know how these deals get done. They are complicated deals and we’re building a team through free agency as well. We’ll work through it and see if we can get something done.
Well there’s one problem! YOU DON’T BUILD A TEAM THROUGH FREE AGENCY! YOU BUILD IT THROUGH THE DRAFT!
unless you squander your picks by trading them away to other teams for their over priced free agents like a fool!
Randy, the same people applauding the signing of Jannu Smith will be the same people complaining we can’t run the ball on offense and can’t stop the run on defense.
M – Who is it you want to trade?
Rock – I’d be surprised if Hunt gets $15M per year, but this is Free Agency, and it’s madness! We know this, been through it so many times and were the winners of the offseason, overpaying for this guys and that guy. This one will bother me more than any other offseason though, because re-singing our won should be a priority, but we have no cap space to keep them. Pure mismanagement by Grier.
malpractice!
Yes! The madness will continue when they have unstocked shelves but dish out a $240M contract to he who shall not be named.
I thought there was a cap at 4 comps. Guess not.

That Chubb trade is looking fantastic now huh?
seriously resigned Bailey. My God…
We’re toast peeps. Hope everyone enjoyed last year.
I enjoyed some of last year, certainly not the last 3 weeks. I’m afraid this season is going to be a lot more like the last 3 weeks than the rest of it.

that Omar article says we shoold
go after Lavonte David and Derrick Henry
those would be two very interesting vets to sign
Henry has been talked about before
but Lavonte David is new to me. I think he is still paying at a high level
what do you think about adding those vets
He was definitely playing at a high level but he’s 34 now, and is he able to make it through a full season? I really wish we had more draft picks!
I think we are trading down from 21 if it’s there for us
No money
Don’t see where Henry helps us. Especially with no one to block.
up the middle
he’s going to be a late offseason signing
so by May we have dealt with the interior OL

This is a great cautionary tale on free agency. Patriots spent like they’d never spent before in 2021. Slight uptick that year, snuck in the playoffs, then collapsed the two years to follow.
————————
YEP! Get ready for the next 2 years of crap where people will call it a success if they make it to 8 wins.
It sure seems like that’s where we’re headed. It’s going to be very tough to field a competitive roster
worse! we are three years away from the beginning of the rebuild. we are going to languish for two years first burn it down, burn it all down
I didn’t realize I cut this off the last part of his tweet:
“You can supplement thru free agency. It’s not how you build.”
at least I will always have the 2023 Madden squad.
Justin Madubuike just signed a 4YR/$98M contract, $75.5M guaranteed. Buh-bye Wilkins!
Ravens keep their own stud DT they drafted and groomed in FA, franchised him and signed him. That’s what great organizations do. You don’t let them out the door!
HELLO!!!!!
no offense guys
But it’s crazy how negative you all are after coming off the first time we made playoffs 2 years ago in a couple of decades
this is the best Dolphin team I’ve seen in quite a while
I think we are a playoff team next season and the core members of our team have the season to improve
That’s how I feel. Anything we do is being criticized right now. Oh well.
the likely scenario as to what we are next year
an exactly what we were in 2023
either we improve or we digress
but the mostly scenario is we are the same team
but our Achilles heel last year – a team that can’t beat good teams
isn’t the kind of thing you typically see transfer from year to year
losing is a year to year even
if you are a losing team, and you’ve been losing for years
it’s hard
to get to get out of the habit
we are not a losing team anymorr
we are a playoff team
we have to make changes to get over the himp
and more importantly, we can’t get attached to pieces that aren’t getting us there
that’s what think anyeay
the next evolution of the offense is bringing in a TE or a 3rd WR who can hit weaknesses in the zone when safeties crowd the middle and CBs game our speed at the line
the next step after that is running up the middle and bringing defensive players inside so they can’t jam our receivers without serious risk
defianvely I think we may step back without Wilkins
so I get that negativity
but offensively, there’s a path to improve and get to the next level and I do not think that has been derailed
ima be fishing a lot this year
I am really looking forward to being trolled in person by everyone who ever saw me wear my Dolphins gear.
isnt that dangerous for a…um….phish
Yes sir! Lots of fishing. Probably lots of fall fishing also and more hunting this winter.
Piggy – You don’t feel like you were a sold a bill of goods by Grier? He made it appear as if we could just restructure contracts and we could sign anyone we wanted. He practically said those words. Now we find out we can’t even keep our own guys, and that’s just bad business. So this tells me he went for it all last season, and we sucked ass when it counted anyway. Those 2 things tell me we’re in a painful ’24 season. The Ravens just signed their franchise DT to a big contract, and you know they do things the right way. Wilkins is gone, and I’m fucking angry about that! Hunt too!
I don’t feel like I was sold a bill to goods. I think he was trying to win and
failed.
Sometimes you can’t try and fail
Like we did for most of a 20 year stretch. I’m enjoying the current ride and we’ll see what our roster looks like in May.
Piggy – Another reason I’m bitter is because I feel like this team has to be awesome everywhere in order to win with Tua. Can’t have anyone hurt, we have to be great on defense and have the best OL in order to give him enough time to win. How are we going to accomplish that? We’re not, and yet we’re probably going to pay the guy that needs everything to be perfect a huge contract that potentially will put us in the same cap hell we’re in now 2 or 3 years from now.
as a general principal I like Dark Mike
so I’m not complaing
but I don’t think we are in cap hell for the next 3 years
I think we are done with the cap hell
next year in part bc we let Wilkins and Hunt go
That’s just it Piggy. We didn’t have to let them go.
But it’s crazy how negative you all are after coming off the first time we made playoffs 2 years ago in a couple of decades
————————-
We took our shot. Injury bug hit us bad. It didn’t work out. Now we have to face the aftermath of going all in.
————————-
this is the best Dolphin team I’ve seen in quite a while
————————-
If you are referring to last years roster, I would agree. Though take a look at our current roster.
Our OL is Armstead (???), LG Cotton, C Chasen Hines, RG Eichenberg, RT Jackson.
Our DL is Seiler, Pili, and 2 guys who couldn’t make an NFL roster last year.
last year our OL didn’t matter bc we were throwing the ball so quickly
we can do the same this season
But I think we spend signicant resources to get better on OL
so Tua can hold the ball longer
even if we don’t, I don’t see it as. La source for less wins
I see it as a source of restoration though
it holds back the offense but er can improve this offseason
I’m negative because I think it’s already over. Lots for picks and money spent got us nothing but fools gold. Just my opinion.
We are in cap hell. BUT, what pisses me off is we could have resigned Wilkins and made his 2024 cap hit equal to what they paid Jannu Smith and pushed most of it down the road.
I said it before, we will have a ton of cap in 2026 and beyond.
But no. A 4th TE was more important.
Ravens are building for another run and continued success.
We show we have no loyalty to our best players and are building on nothing.
They could have resigned OG Robert Jones to play RG so Eich can play C but a 4th TE was more important.
They haven’t even placed a tender on Jones who is our only RFA. He won’t get us a comp pick but could have gotten us something if we had put a day 3 tender on him.
Our roster is going to be filled with UDFA’s and whatever FA who are left after 2 May that can be signed for the league minimum.
Piggy – if we give Tua that big contract, by the time we get out of the cap mess from Hill, Chubb and Ramsey, we’ll just be hitting the meat of Tua’s contract.
For the record, I’m glad you like Dark Mike! 👤
It’s kind of funny, nobody here likes these big contracts but many of you are pissed off we aren’t signing Wilkins and Hunt to big contracts. Give them whatever they want?
I’ll say it again, we were totally derailed due to injuries. To deny that is like saying there is no reason for anything to happen. Even Hunt was banged up down the stretch. The roster in May last year was not the roster in January.
Oh lord Tim! Wilkins played every fucking game and balled out the entire time he was here! we drafted and developed him, so yeah, he’s the guy you want to pay. That’s the natural order of things in the NFL. We’re gonna pay Tua instead and he’s one hit away from either getting hurt or finished in the NFL. He’s not a winner, he needs everything to be perfect, and if you subtract Wilkins, Hunt and AVG, perfect it will not be. In fact it will be less perfect than last year by a large margin, but at least you’ll have a bevy of excuses for why we can’t win this season.
I don’t believe in perfect. 😉
Tim,
what you always fail to say is that even when we weren’t decimated by injuries and, I guess, just supposed to roll over and lose, we were STILL getting our asses beat by good teams in “big” games. So, what was the problem/excuse then?
I’ve said many times okay we weren’t a great team. We weren’t what we all wanted us to be. We were a playoff team and that’s it. Tua is getting a lot of the blame but we must sign Wilkins and Hunt with those same results? It’s not adding up to what is being said on this blog.
Did we have a better chance at beating the Chiefs in the playoffs with our best players on the field? The team we fielded had no chance. I said before the game maybe they’ll surprise us.
I have no ill will towards the FO for trying to win. Hindsight is always 20/20. 😉
I always used to bitch about how much guards or centers got paid in FA and you guys always told me to shut up because that’s how it is nowadays and a guy’s “worth” whatever he gets. Now, when I wanna overspend for some OL it’s all like: “Oh hell no. We can’t spend that much money for a guard!” Lol
Most positions are being paid over the top under the salary cap. I’d say the lowest paid positions are FB, RB and TE with the exception of some top talents. The reason being is the running game is secondary these days.
The passing game and defending the pass is where the money goes.
Tim,
I’ve never said we HAVE to sign anybody. I just think losing high end guys you draft and develop leads to mediocrity. Signing Tua is nothing like signing Hunt or Wilkins. QB contracts are completely different.
Randy, I was speaking about the vibe of this blog and your posts are on the negative side of things. Not everyone views things the same way. It’s all good! 🙂
I just deleted two rants, one after the other.

The problem is this is the Miami Dolphins we are talking about. They will probably fire Grief and then hire some bozo that makes us yearn for the days of Grief.

^^ would have made a lot more sense if I hadn’t deleted one of my rants. LOL
I think after some reflection that I am most upset because of the GREAT START to a Dynasty football team we got by compounding the Gas Mask fall to our advantage was squandered by wasting picks to “go for it” instead of using the INFUCKINGCREDIBLE draft capital and cap space that we had at the start of the “tanking season” I had to live through that fucking bullshit, like I had been the one who did it when every other fucking team did the same and didn’t get called out or investigated about it, all to have like 6 first round picks 4 2nd round picks and a slew of starter level 3-5 level picks were wasted. You might think well you don’t know. Well, I am upset because I am pretty fucking sure, I know.
Drunk and arguing with myself. Nogtih all
Trying to make myself feel better. It did help a little.
and we couldn’t do this with Wilkins, why?
———–
@jamisonhensley
Ravens sign their best defensive lineman to a long-term deal and reduce his $22M salary cap hit in 2024 from the franchise tag, which provides flexibility heading into free agency
$75.5 million of the $98 million is guaranteed. Wilkins is gone.
Some people think Madubuike is a lot better than Wilkins. Madubuike had one great season, last season, and now he got paid. Wilkins led all DT’s in the NFL over a 5 year period with the most tackles in history for a DT in his first 5 seasons. Last year, Wilkins showed he could get to the QB, and now that he’s a complete player, we show him the door, because he’s earned the right to be a free agent.

Notorious former NFL superstar Antonio Brown is giving the finger to a judge who threw the book at him for refusing to give a pair of $1 million finger “covers” back to a celebrity jeweler.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Kerry Bensinger recently ordered Brown, now a rising rap artist, to pay Shuki International $1,095,000 after the embattled ex-All Pro receiver failed to answer a lawsuit alleging he borrowed the jeweler’s diamond-encrusted finger covers and other pieces of jewelry in 2022 — but never returned or paid for them.
Jean Louis Shuki told The Post that Brown blew off voice messages he’s left since last month’s ruling, and instead only fired back texts indicating the court order won’t sway him.
“U caint [sic] get s–t cracker,” said Brown in the first text, fired off at 4:42 a.m. on Feb. 20. He then sent his former pal two more texts over the next four minutes: “Cracker u beat,” and “Stop call me u bitch.”
Brown not only enjoys flaunting the pair of $500,000 finger covers while performing, but also claims that they help boosts his libido by fueling “super orgasms,” according to Shuki.

he’s a couple of months away from having all his assets frozen
I think the post described it wrong. The judge probably didn’t order Brown to pay anything , he entered a judgment against him for the value of the items he didn’t return
What a head case Brown is – he didn’t even answer the case
Like a mediation or something? We have to do that a lot when bonds go bad and the person signing on the bond refuses to pay. Mostly in circuit civil due to the amount of the bond.
I don’t get involved in that side of the business so not really sure. I’m mainly just the “get’em out of jail guy”.

Eagles are re-signing Brandon Graham to a one-year extension, ensuring that the 35-year-old defensive end returns to Philadelphia for a 15th season.

Taking care of your own. That doesn’t exist anymore in Miami.
Before anyone asks, no… we didn’t have the $12,987,000 in cap space to make this trade.
Lol M
We don’t have any money for anything. Still need to cut I think 17M by Wednesday. This team’s “run” is over. We made playoffs 2 years in a row only to be embarrassed and show they didn’t belong. That’s what the tank and rebuild produced. Yay, that was fun. Time to slowly get worse, blow it up again. Hopefully this time a new GM!
Elephant Rider,
Just so you and others know, the “legal tampering period” begins on Monday. Yes… that’s means we’re going to have to trim the fat by late Sunday night/early Monday morning if we’re to re-sign Wilkins or Hunt.
Nothing will become official until dWednesday, but expect to hear of deals done starting Monday.
I’ve almost turned to “the dark side”, my friend! It looks really bad to me, too.
Friggin’ typos…
I hate making typos!
Yes, the dark side is calling. lol
Oh yeah… I would’ve thought that Chris “Grief” Grier understood the consequences of signing too many people to high-paying contracts after the Tanny-Suh years (paying QB $$$ to 2 people).
Apparently not! Yes, a new GM may be in order soon.
I agree but he may have been following orders and told by Ross he wants to win now. He did it and injuries killed the dream.
He needs to go back to Ross and tell him if he wants to see it before he dies then he needs to open the checkbook again.
We have the cap in 2026 and beyond even if we give Tua 55 mil per year.

That’s my working theory as to what happened… Ross wanted the ring NOW, as badly as Gollum wanted the ring. However, there’s always a fallguy… and Grier just might be that guy.
I will FOREVER maintain that injuries derailed our ’23 season… that’s not in question to me whatsoever. But, our window should have been opening from here on out, not closing so suddenly.
Oink and agreed
it’s possible we take a step back first, but I think it’s to take 2-3 steps forward
the question is how long will the step back last
@RapSheet
The #Browns have now traded for Amari Cooper for a fifth-round pick and a pick swap, and traded for Jerry Jeudy for a fifth and sixth.
And they’ve done so even with a DISASTEROUS contract handed to Deshaun Watson!
I don’t recall the actually number at the moment, but it’s something like 25-30% of the Brownies’ cap space is absorbed by Watson’s contract alone.
Yeah, the “actually number”. LOL, my typing sucks today!
Dark times call for dark persona’s. I do believe it’s gonna be dark

Yes!
It looks like the Dolphins are going to re-sign Nik Needham. I like him, hope he can get to how he played 2 seasons ago.
we need ham
I think him and Kohou return to form and even Cam Smith makes the jump. IMO, the issue was Fangio.
@AdamSchefter
Raiders informed defensive end Jerry Tillery that they will release when the new league year begins Wednesday, per source.
—————-
He’s decent but not a stud. Only thing is he would still cost too much for a 2 year contract. The hole we are in requires us to sign GOOD free agents to 3 or more years to spread it out.
One point Barry Jackson made on Needham is he can also play safety.
We can definitely upgrade from Needham.
Spotrac shows our current cap at -18,335,122.
That only reflects the addition of P Jake Bailey and DT Isaiah Mack. DT Daviyon Nixon, TE Jannu Smith, S Elijah Campbell and CB Nick Needham have not been added to that. So we are probably back up to about 26-27 million over.
I’d look for a release of RB Jeff Wilson soon and an extension on OG Eichenberg to clear another 6 mil.
Agreed, Wilson is a solid depth back but he’s not a priority.
Looking at players on Spotrac, we could trade Ramsey right now for a 1st and clear 20.2 million in cap space with a 7 mil dead cap hit in 2024 only. It would also clear 21.2 mil off our 2025 cap. He is only under contract through 2025.
Ramsey still has 32.5 mil in guaranteed money left on his contract. Most of that is in base salary that would be pushed on to the team he was traded to.
I am sure you could find a team that would want Ramsey for 14.5 mil this year and 15.5 mil next year.
Why not? Since we are going to be in a reset mode for 1 to 2 years anyway. He is part of the now and not part of the future.
The decision would have to be made soon as he has an 11 mil roster bonus due on 3/17/24. It would not be worth it after that.
There are top teams trying to make their run this year or have been close a couple years and are looking to get over the top. What would they give up for Ramsey?
Top teams with top 2 priority need of CB:
Eagles – 40.7 mil in cap space. Have picks 22, 50, 53, 97…
Lions – 53.3 mil. Picks 29, 61, 73, 92…
Other teams with top 2 priority need of CB:
Steelers – 26.3 mil. Picks 20, 51, 84, 118, 119…
Cardinals – 51.8 mil. Picks 4, 27, 35, 66, 71, 90, (13 total picks)
Colts – 52.8 mil. Picks 15, 46, 82, 116…
Other teams with a top 2 need at CB but no cap are 49er’s, Bills, Chargers, Jags.
I bet Lions would give up #29 to have Ramsey for this year and next at a bargain price.
I’ve always been a fan of Needham. His injury really halted his career for over a year. I hope he’s the same dog he was a couple of years ago. He does have experience playing a lot of man coverage. I think Weaver is going to run more man coverage than Fangio did.
He is a good tackler and hitter. Wonder if he could make a full time move to Safety?
Still would like to see Brandon Jones back.
Achane is going to be a big part of the offense moving forward. Probably Mostert for 2024 with Brooks competing with a rookie.
I think they could find a 7th round RB or even an UDFA RB.
I like that Rasheen Ali from Marshall. He is good! Reason he is projected that late is he has had some fumble issues.
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. Maybe two rookie backs competing. MM has an eye for them.
WHY NOT MOCK DRAFT
Traded Ramsey and a 2025 2nd to the Lions for #29 and #92. Didn’t realize Fiske was still there at #55 so I traded down but still got him.
PICK: 21 RND: 1 Graham BARTON OT/OG/C Duke
PICK: 29 RND: 1 Jackson POWERS-JOHNSON C Oregon
PICK: 62 RND: 2 Braden FISKE DL Florida State
PICK: 92 RND: 3 Khyree JACKSON CB Oregon
PICK: 93 RND: 3 Trey BENSON RB Florida State
PICK: 157 RND: 5 Malik MUSTAPHA S Wake Forest
PICK: 183 RND: 6 Aaron CASEY ILB Indiana
PICK: 197 RND: 6 Kamal HADDEN CB Tennessee
PICK: 241 RND: 7 Javontae JEAN-BAPTISTE OLB-EDGE Notre Dame
PICK: 250 RND: 7 Garret GREENFIELD OT South Dakota State
CB Christian Matthew in trade from Baltimore
Obviously anything can happen but Weaver is a big fan of Ramsey and wants to use him in versatile roles.
Oh, yeah, no doubt. Just screwing around. I felt the dark side of MikeE again and fell back into screw it mode. lol
🤣
BBMike, what we learned about Weaver as a DC is that he likes a single high safety which seems to fit Holland’s skill set. A mix of man and zone blitzes. Our defense is going to be more like Flores than Fangio.
I was looking forward to that. Just don’t know how they will make it work without some good personnel.
I just look at Baltimore and how their front 7 is built. Our front 7 seven worries me a shit ton. I wouldn’t be so worried if we didn’t have to start the season without Chubb and Phillips.
No Wilkins, no AVG, no Chubb, no Phillips has me sick to my stomach.
No doubt there are uncertainties on the front 7.
@AdamSchefter
Chiefs and five-time Pro-Bowl DT Chris Jones reached agreement on a record 5-year deal that includes $95 million guaranteed and allows KC to keep its best defender before free agency begins, per his agents,
@KatzBrosSports
.
That’s the key. They did a 5 year deal. We could have done the same with Wilkins and had a minimal cap hit this year.
bye bye Wilkins
It’s looking like that. Damn I have to change my avi. 😂
That’s what pisses me off. We should be able to do the same for him.
Wilkins is above average for sure, don’t think he’s worth $20M per. High motor, super consistent and durable. Not a game wrecker.
the Dolphins couldn’t touch that guaranteed money. Agree with Tim
I equate Christian Wilkins to Cameron Heyward of the Steelers. Heyward made 22.2 mil last year and is set to make 22.4 mil this year in the last year of his contract.
First 5 years of career:
Heyward: 197 total tackles, 22 sacks, 2 FF, 14 PD’s
Wilkins: 355 total tackles, 20.5 sacks, 4 FF, 19 PD’s, 1 INT
Heyward went on to produce 68.5 more sacks over the next 8 years (8.5 average). In his 11th season in the NFL, Heyward had 89 tackles, 10 sacks, 9 PD’s and in 12th season, 74 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 4 PD’s.
I feel Wilkins is the exact same type player. A player who loves football and a player who gives you everything he’s got on every play. Wilkins will continue to produce like Heyward to the end of his career. Earning every penny.
I feel Wilkins is worth 22-25 mil per year easy. That is still not as much as the others are getting.
Steelers kept paying Heyward for 13 years, now 14 and they have gotten their money’s worth.
He’s only getting better.
Christian Wilkins – 🔥 Ultimate 2023 Dolphins Highlights ᴴᴰ (youtube.com)
I hate to see him playing his best years on another team.
BBMike – I agree, that’s a really good comparison, Cam Heyward.
As much as I have hated the Steelers over the years, two players that I really liked who brought it every game/play was Heyward and Hines Ward. Some would call Ward a dirty player in today’s game with his blindside blocking but he was a very good all round WR. IMO, that’s just playing football. That was how I was taught to play the game. Punish the LB’s and DB’s in the run game as a blocking WR.
I remember one play Heyward made. After playing the whole game, I think in the 4th qtr, Justin Herbert, who is not slow, scrambled and Heyward chased him 40 yards down field and tackled him at the 10 yard line saving a TD. If I remember correctly there was no other defender within 10 yards and Heyward was the only one who could stop it.
One of his teammates said Heyward always chases down every RB and WR screen to the very end in practice because Heyward told his teammates that you never know when you are going to have to do it in a game.
That’s what you get with Wilkins.
3 days and counting to the demise of the franchise . . .
Yep
Chiefs sign DT Chris Jones to a 5YR deal with $95M guaranteed
beer me
thank you sir!
Well, let’s see . . .
The Chiefs won the Superbowl and they’re keeping their franchise DT. The Ravens who were the AFC runner up signed their franchise DT. Let’s see what the 6th seed Miami Dolphins do
Mike take a pill
they haven’t buried themselves in salary cap hell. The Chiefs traded Hill, and won the Super Bowl in back to back seasons partly on the talent they acquired through the draft with those picks. They were smart. Doesn’t always work out, but it certainly did for them .
Steve – why, does the truth hurt?
we all know the situation and your stance, just relax already
So I should just stop participating on my own blog? What, only sunshine and rainbows work for ya?
no, you’ve been a little too vindictive lately, don’t want to see your health compromised because of it
I’m all in
https://dolphinnation.com/2024/03/09/5-time-pro-bowler-potentially-indicates-hed-be-interested-in-miami-dolphins-reunion/
Meh. We have a shiny new TE they have to get the ball to now.
Hines Ward was a great blocking WR, simple as that. He was physical, relentless while blocking.
MikeE, I responded about Heyward above at your 9:23.
I saw it, thanks
Steve – Omar has been talking about Jarvis Landry just about every day on WQAM. He says he’d bring the toughness that our WR room lacks. He probably would, but I’m not sure what he’s got left in the tank.
I agree. Jarvis Landry was a slow WR. His talent enabled him to rise above what he lacked in speed. Not sure what he could give at this point. I liked him a lot when he was a Dolphin though.
not sure either what Landry has left, I do know whatever he has he’ll give and that’s enough on a low end salary
Steve – being snarky and vindictive doesn’t negatively affect my health. It’s my release. Keeping that anger in is bad.
^
ok, nevermind says…
Mike- god article and probably your best image to date! How the hell did you find one with those colors?!!! 😂😂😂
good
I was looking for a while, and the image of the guy falling down the stairs, which is what I was looking for. Then I saw the books with the orange and aqua and was like “Holy shit, that’s perfect!”
utterly perfect
😅
Landry would be an after thought of defenders, his speed wouldn’t matter, because his biggest value would be on 3rd and short to medium and the tough yards around the EZ
Oh, I agree with that. A Landry is what I hope EZ will be.
I really thought we’d be able to navigate the cap this season without it hurting us too badly. I’m not confident Grier can do that now.
I can’t find Grier’s exact quote, and I couldn’t tell you exactly when he said it, but he said something to the effect of “These contracts we’ve done won’t affect us in free agency, we’ll be able to restructure contracts and sign players as we always have.”
Do you recall seeing that Bri?
yup. Maybe he will work some magic, but you just can’t kick it down the line forever. At some point it comes due. This is why I think Wilkins is gone, maybe Hunt too.
Legal tampering starts tomorrow at 12 noon ET.
jags trading for Mac jones – looks like a 6th rounder in return
Interesting and good for Jones. Good HC to learn under/regain his confidence.
true. No pressure either.
