Time is ticking down, and all of the storylines are coming to a head. Arguments supporting trading up, staying put, and trading back are at full throttle all over the NFL landscape, especially here in Miami. I can get on board with either as long as we come away with at least 2 players that will play a lot of the ’24 season and make a positive impact. My feeling is OL and EDGE are the 2 places with the strongest needs, followed closely by 3-4 DE. If you’re looking to trade back, the age old phrasing of the talent from 21-55 was pretty even so we wanted get another player or two in that area to help our team. In the unlikely scenario where we trade up, it will be this is a player we really felt would impact our team right now and in the future. As far as staying put, the dialogue will be we felt like staying put would net us the player we wanted, that someone valuable was going to fall to us. In any of these scenarios, it’s not how or why we got there, it’s who the player is, and ultimately how the player fares and impacts the team this season. Make no mistake, we’re not taking a player that will be sitting on the bench and learning in ’24, we simply have way too many holes to fill.
If it’s going to be an edge rusher, which I think is very likely, the names that pop up are FSU’s Jared Verse, UCLA’s Laiatu Latu and Penn State’s Chop Robinson. If we’re looking at O-line, the scope widens some, from a plug-n-play OC/G like Jackson Powers-Johnson, to possibly an OT that could play inside or sub for Terron Armstead/Austin Jackson if necessary, such as Washington’s Troy Fautanu, who would have to fall some, or Georgia’s Amarius Mims, or Oklahoma’s Tyler Guyton. There are a few OG’s that we could take either with a trade back or our 2nd pick, such as Kansas St’s Cooper Beebe, Connecticut’s Christian Haynes, or Michigan’s Zak Zinter. The reason I believe we go defense first is because the dropoff is pretty significant at both EDGE and/or DT/DE, while the O-line has some players that should be available in RD 2 or later that could step in and play immediately.
As of this moment, the Dolphins have still not come to an agreement with QB Tua Tagovailoa on an extension, although we keep hearing a deal is imminent. I would think both sides want to protect themselves, it’s a tough spot for both sides. Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert have been paid. Daniel Jones has also been paid. I believe Tua falls somewhere in between those 4. The other aspect on this situation is that I believe Tua is in an ideal place to for his skillset. Not to say he couldn’t have success elsewhere, but the HC who is a staunch believer in him, and has handcrafted the offense around his strengths is a huge boon for Tua. The Climate is also conducive to his success, you don’t want Tua in Green Bay, or Buffalo for that matter. I feel like that does give the Dolphins some leverage due to those things, but only so much that Tua and more so his representation wants to see the money. Is it possible that Tua plays the season without an extension? I’d think the odds are low, but if that were to happen, the Dolphins could tag Tua next season and let the market decide what he’s worth.
Tonight, here on FMU, we will be conducting our annual Mock Draft at 7PM, led by none other than our own M13. Please try and make it if you can, the more participation we have, the more fun it will be. We’ll all be voting for each and every pick for every team, all 32. For those on the West Coast, my apologies on the early start, hop in later if you can’t make the start. Hope to see a bunch of you here at 7PM tonight!

okay we should discuss first
I think Latu
I will lean DL as I hear OL is fairly deep and DL is not
I agree Toba. DL or EDGE is the pick here. I feel pretty strongly we’re taking an edge rusher. It could be DT/DE Johnny Newton, but I feel pass rusher is a huge need now and for the future so I like Latu. I know he’s not the same player, but I still have Koa Misi phobia
THANK YOU to everyone who has participated thus far!
Alright, lets see who is still on the board for us in this mock draft, take a breather, take a piss break, or do whatever might need to be done.

we have
a great pass rusher available in Laitu
a great OL in Fashanu as well as Barton, Guyron and JPJ

My brain hurts after reading last night’s mock draft.
Miami: C- Jackson Powers-Johnson
LOL – Too many QB’s?
today’s date is the same backwards.
Nice!
if the draft fell as above … I guess we’d go Graham Barton unless that’s too high for an OL who’d have to be converted. I could see them taking the highest remaining WR if that’s what they think as it’s also too high for a safety unless he’s thought to be a HoFer.
not sure they want a center after signing Brewer but maybe take JPJ and move him to OG. I think Brewer is too light for RG.
those are just guesses … not better than the guys you all already listed.
I think we night have too much money committed to EDGE to take one in the first. How could you play 4 star EDGE rushers anyway? How could we get enough minutes out of each to justify paying 4 stars at such a high salary spot?
Barrett is a one year rental and Chubb could be a cap casualty (see below).
That said, I went OL.
Who is your pick of the top players left after last night?
Bryan, I know. Man, Latu, OT Fashanu, OL Barton, OC JPJ, DT Newton, CB/S DeJean all on the board.
No doubt, IMO, a team will come calling for our pick.
We have edge for the future in Chubb under contract through 2027. Phillips on his 5th year option and likely to get an extension. I would love to have Latu as we could make Chubb a cap casualty next year. We have a 2025 out clause on him where we could clear 20 million in cap next year with a post 6/1 release.
Question: Is Chubb worth the 30 million cap hit the last 3 years of his contract coming off his second ACL repair?
Only 2/5 of our starting OL are under contract after this year as Armstead will retire.
As much as I want Latu, I have to go with OT Fashanu. Yeah, there will be good OL available in 2025 draft, but we have more than 1 starter spot to fill on the OL.
Pick OT Fashanu.
the most unbelievable player there at 21 was Fashanu IMO
I know. For me, it was Fashanu and Latu. Both studs but that could very well happen IF a bunch of QB’s go in the top 20 like last night.
People are saying we are in position to select BPA. Are we really?
It think it has to be OL. If they go Edge, I am thinking the writing may be on the wall for Chubb in 2025.
look at all the good OL still on the board at 21
we can go edge and trade up and take OL again
I thought it fell like expected
my only issue was Bo Nix going so early
BBM,
I love the idea of going edge to mitigate the possibility of not being able to retain Phillips, but we can also do that next year. Center is so important in this system that I felt if we have the opportunity to grab the best one, let’s do it.
So you’re not a believer in Aaron Brewer, who we signed to a 3 YR/$24M contract?
Not all all. I’m actually hoping they see him as a G. Maybe he will do better in this system and they see something in him. I’m hoping we draft JPJ and kick Brewer to G, or play JPJ at G then move him to C once he’s gone.
Brewer is light Bri – I think about 280-290. Not sure he’s big enough for an OG
I know. It’s just me being stubborn because I never really liked the signing.
If you’re not, then it bites even more because we could have used that money elsewhere, like Wilkins
Yes it does. We could have saved that money and drafted JPJ or Zach Frazier.
I would assume Grier didn’t want to Risk waiting until the draft to plug that hole
Test
Seems I can only post in Reader mode. Just popped on to say I loved the mob draft last night after just catching up now. Absolutely hilarious. G/f said what are you laughing at. I agree with that. However, we would have to trade up into the 30’s which would cost a lot. Unless it is for Cooper Bebee and a trade up into the 40’s is very doable.
Thanks M!
Unless a tackle falls to them, I can almost guarantee the Steelers will draft JPJ right before us
That or a top WR like Brian Thomas Jr falls to them. But, yeah, that is the same feeling I have. JPJ to Steelers is almost a given.
because they draft smart and well
Another reason to hate them
Hey UK! Good to see ya pal. Lots of people having trouble logging in. Not sure what your issue is but send me an email explaining what’s happening and we’ll see if we can get it fixed. Doggy, if you’re around, do the same.
HA! Ryder with another breakdown on one of my favs for the 6th round. Dude is athletic for a 6’5 271 pound TE. Ryder was wrong though. He wasn’t the one who said at the combine space doesn’t exist. That was safety prospect Tyler Owens.
Just because he was not used in the pass game much doesn’t mean he can’t do it. He ran a combine 4.64 forty at his size
Chad Reuter posted his latest mock draft yesterday. Who did he have falling and Miami taking at #21?
Pick
21
Miami Dolphins
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
Penn State · OT · Junior (RS)
that wouldn’t suck. I can’t see him lasting anywhere close to 21
though .
Aiyuk’s agent dispels another 49ers-Steelers trade rumor
—————–
Smoke screen or maybe not.
One draft site had Steelers trading out of #20 for SF #31 and WR Brandon Aiyuk. There were other picks involved but this was the major part of it.
What really sucked is Steelers traded down to #31 and still got JPJ and Aiyuk in that dudes mock draft.
Maybe this is when the trade rumors started it was a little while ago.
Hmmm… I’m not an OL guy so, I dunno. Don’t know who this guy is either.

Report: Dolphins meet with USC RB Austin Jones
He would be a pick at #241 or, most likely, an UDFA they are looking at.
I noticed Grier has done this before. Brought in guys on top 30 visits only to sign them later as UDFA. Guess it is a way of saying “Hey, we want to sign you right after the draft”. It’s almost more like a free agent visit than a draft visit. Work out a deal prior to the draft then be ready to snatch them up right after Mr. Irrelevant is selected.
Tim, looks like another one of those late round/UDFA RB’s we talk about.
Austin Jones played at Stanford then transferred to USC.
@AaronWilson_NFL
@OregonState
linebacker Calvin Hart Jr., excelled at #Dolphins and #Seahawks local prospect days. Had 61 tackles, 6.5 for losses, 3.5 sacks last season.
He’s another UDFA prospect. He’s a little undersized.
And so, it looks as though if we go O-Line in Round 1, we’ll get a plug-n-play Tackle/Guard… unless your name is Alt, Fashanu, Guyton, or Mims (strictly Tackles).
We’ll get a plug-n-play Center/Guard only if your name is Graham Barton or JPJ.
Mims can only play RT, so he’s off my list (never was on my list to begin with).
Very interesting… do we choose to draft T-Stead’s replacement this Draft, or next Draft? Or, do we choose to upgrade/solidify the IOL now?
This is, of course, should we go with one of these O-Linemen in round 1 this year.
