6 Days until the 2024 NFL Draft!

Time is ticking down, and all of the storylines are coming to a head. Arguments supporting trading up, staying put, and trading back are at full throttle all over the NFL landscape, especially here in Miami. I can get on board with either as long as we come away with at least 2 players that will play a lot of the ’24 season and make a positive impact. My feeling is OL and EDGE are the 2 places with the strongest needs, followed closely by 3-4 DE. If you’re looking to trade back, the age old phrasing of the talent from 21-55 was pretty even so we wanted get another player or two in that area to help our team. In the unlikely scenario where we trade up, it will be this is a player we really felt would impact our team right now and in the future. As far as staying put, the dialogue will be we felt like staying put would net us the player we wanted, that someone valuable was going to fall to us. In any of these scenarios, it’s not how or why we got there, it’s who the player is, and ultimately how the player fares and impacts the team this season. Make no mistake, we’re not taking a player that will be sitting on the bench and learning in ’24, we simply have way too many holes to fill.

If it’s going to be an edge rusher, which I think is very likely, the names that pop up are FSU’s Jared Verse, UCLA’s Laiatu Latu and Penn State’s Chop Robinson. If we’re looking at O-line, the scope widens some, from a plug-n-play OC/G like Jackson Powers-Johnson, to possibly an OT that could play inside or sub for Terron Armstead/Austin Jackson if necessary, such as Washington’s Troy Fautanu, who would have to fall some, or Georgia’s Amarius Mims, or Oklahoma’s Tyler Guyton. There are a few OG’s that we could take either with a trade back or our 2nd pick, such as Kansas St’s Cooper Beebe, Connecticut’s Christian Haynes, or Michigan’s Zak Zinter. The reason I believe we go defense first is because the dropoff is pretty significant at both EDGE and/or DT/DE, while the O-line has some players that should be available in RD 2 or later that could step in and play immediately.

As of this moment, the Dolphins have still not come to an agreement with QB Tua Tagovailoa on an extension, although we keep hearing a deal is imminent. I would think both sides want to protect themselves, it’s a tough spot for both sides. Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert have been paid. Daniel Jones has also been paid. I believe Tua falls somewhere in between those 4. The other aspect on this situation is that I believe Tua is in an ideal place to for his skillset. Not to say he couldn’t have success elsewhere, but the HC who is a staunch believer in him, and has handcrafted the offense around his strengths is a huge boon for Tua. The Climate is also conducive to his success, you don’t want Tua in Green Bay, or Buffalo for that matter. I feel like that does give the Dolphins some leverage due to those things, but only so much that Tua and more so his representation wants to see the money. Is it possible that Tua plays the season without an extension? I’d think the odds are low, but if that were to happen, the Dolphins could tag Tua next season and let the market decide what he’s worth.

Tonight, here on FMU, we will be conducting our annual Mock Draft at 7PM, led by none other than our own M13. Please try and make it if you can, the more participation we have, the more fun it will be. We’ll all be voting for each and every pick for every team, all 32. For those on the West Coast, my apologies on the early start, hop in later if you can’t make the start. Hope to see a bunch of you here at 7PM tonight!

    Thanks M!

    ————-

    My pleasure, sir!

  2. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And so, it looks as though if we go O-Line in Round 1, we’ll get a plug-n-play Tackle/Guard… unless your name is Alt, Fashanu, Guyton, or Mims (strictly Tackles).

We’ll get a plug-n-play Center/Guard only if your name is Graham Barton or JPJ.

Mims can only play RT, so he’s off my list (never was on my list to begin with).

Very interesting… do we choose to draft T-Stead’s replacement this Draft, or next Draft? Or, do we choose to upgrade/solidify the IOL now?

This is, of course, if we go with one of these O-Linemen in round 1 this year.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Given all of the above options, I think it would be a dream scenario to have Fautanu fall to us. Then, if Connor Williams is healthy, I’m signing him June 1st when we get our $$$.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Again, that’s IF we choose to go O-Line in round 1.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And I’m not talking about the FMU/MOB draft… I’m talking the real deal this Thursday.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Friendly reminder: Connor Williams will NOT get what he was previously asking for after suffering his injury last season. We could probably get him for far less.

  3. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    UK,

GRAND to see ya post earlier today! Been wondering where you’ve been. Hopefully you can get your tech issues figured out soon, Brother. We’ve missed ya!

  4. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Assist from Bucky Brooks, I’m adding Qwan’tez Stiggers, CB, Toronto (CFL) to my UDFA list…

  5. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Mohamed Kamara, EDGE, Colorado State. I’ve been mocking him to us the last several weeks (day 3) and we’ve had some discussion about him on here. Daniel Jeremiah believes he’s going to be a day 3 steal/draft gem.

  6. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Just curious, has anyone tabulated the votes and determined who our consensus pick is?

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

A thought. What do you think about having the Phins vote sometime this week? I’d really like for BB Mike to have a say in it, and several others seem to only come on during weekdays.

Say something like Monday @ X:00?

  7. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Naples voted for Graham Barton, Brian voted for JPJ

  8. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Mike E,

Despite who everyone voted for (post-draft), there’s still a tie at the top of the board.

  9. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We could do it over Monday night, but I fear we’re not going to have people show up. Just being realistic

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Then let’s do it Tuesday evening… an extra day to remind everyone who wants to be a part of it.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Heck, we could have a ‘day vote’ (for our bloggers who post during the day) and then an ‘evening vote’ (for our bloggers who post during the evening). Tally them all together for a max consensus.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

What do ya think about that, Mike E?

    Where is Phel at?

You read the Reacher books, right, Phel? I just started reading them because the Amazon Reacher is freakin’ awesome and it got me interested in reading them. I just finished Killing Floor, thought it was pretty good, esxpecially for a first book.

    • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

I haven’t read them and your drunk timing is impeccable…I was just looking for something new to read!

Discovered that I had a detached retina 5 weeks ago, had immediate surgery and couldn’t look at a screen until recently. Very effective way to lose that last 5 lbs around your waistline, not one that I would recommend. Anyway, still down one eye for the foreseeable (yuck yuck 😂) future but recovering. And if not, I have a cool Crenshaw patch on its way. I’ll go full pirate. Do you think ‘The Dread Pirate Phelonius Phish’ is to long for a screen name?

  18. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Good to see ya, UK!

  21. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Phelon – Sorry to hear about the detached retina. Godspeed in your recovery my friend!

I love the Dread Pirate Phelonius Phish by the way, go for it!

Did you go to the doc immediately? Do you remember overexerting yourself or anything? We get them often at my place, people complain about hazy vision, like there’s a veil of cotton on their eye. It must have been scary!

    • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

I had been having the hazy vision thing for about a month, so I made an appointment with the retinal specialist. Had the surgery at 7 AM the next morning. Took 3 hours. Don’t know about scary, but it was irritating as shit, especially staying face down for 5 days.

  22. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

BBMike – A long time ago, in the early 80’s, I saw the Rolling Stones, Journey and George Thorogood and the Destroyers in Philly at RFK Stadium, huge venue, about 100,000 people or so. Thorogood in my opinion was the best out of the 3. They were awesome

  23. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Lol @ the Dread Pirate Phelonious Phish.

Sorry to read about the retina, bro, that sounds rough. Hope you make a full recovery.

I thought you were the one that told me the Reacher books were worth a read. I don’t usually read the ‘action hero’ genre, but went through that first book pretty quickly. Killing Floor is the same story as season 1 of Amazon’s series. The biggest surprise for me was how closely the show followed the book. There are some changes, but quite a bit of it is straight out of the book.

  24. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

so not what I think Grier WOULD or WILL do in the draft,

but what I would do if they are there,

    is take Brian Thomas WR LSU 4.33 40 6’3 205 at #21

    and

TE JaTavion Sanders Texas 6’4 245 at #55.

then sign a vet FA RG like Risner or whomever FO likes off speed dial.

We could average 40 points. LEGIT.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I would not be upset about Brian Thomas Jr at all. I would have a fit if they take Sanders though. Sanders has been in a couple articles being labeled as one of the biggest risks in the draft. Also, he can’t block for crap and doesn’t want or attempt to.

Give me Eric All or Tip Reiman on day 3.

She’s got some poor sucker thinking with his wiener trying to bond her out. Didn’t really turn it down but told him I have to have the full amount of bond put up as collateral in addition to my fee. He didn’t even know she had been arrested 4 other times.

  37. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Another DB visit with the dolphins. Again, they have brought in a lot of DB’s on top 30 and local visits. Most of them are day 3 prospects. The latest:

Colorado State CB Chig Anusiem, 6’1 200, strong man-press CB ran 4.39 and 37.5 vert at his pro day. Had 93 tackles, 1 INT and 11 PD’s over last 2 seasons.

For those of you who didn’t/couldn’t participate in the Mock Draft last night

We’d love to have your vote on who the Dolphins select at #21

CHICAGO BEARS - QB Caleb Williams

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS - QB Jayden Daniels

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS – QB Drake Maye

ARIZONA CARDINALS – WR Marvin Harrison

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS – OT Joe Alt

NEW YORK GIANTS – WR Malik Nabers

TENNESEE TITANS - OT Taliese Fuaga

ATLANTA FALCONS – DE – Dallas Turner

CHICAGO BEARS – WR Rome Odunze

NY JETS – TE Brock Bowers

MINNESOTA VIKINGS – QB JJ McCarthy

DENVER BRONCOS – QB Bo Nix

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS – QB Penix

    SAINTS – WR Brian Thomas

    COLTS – CB Quinyon Mitchell

    SEAHAWKS – DE Jared Verse

    JAGUARS – CB Terrion Arnold

    BENGALS – OT JC Latham

LA RAMS – DL Byron Murphy II

    STEELERS – OL Troy Fautanu

    My pick:

Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson

  41. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Texas is losing 2 top 10 WR’s in the draft but they won’t be depleted. Keep an eye on their freshman WR Ryan Wingo, 6’2 205 pounds and 4.39 forty.

  44. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I’m torn. I really want us to draft a Hawkeye, so I’m hoping for DeJean. But, my head says JPJ. Barton would be fine too.

My pick would be JPJ. But, I think they’ll draft Barton because of his versatility.

  48. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

M13, That video you posted on Rick Spielman, Baldy said the same thing in his video I posted at 3:41pm. Graham Barton was his pick for the Dolphins.

  49. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    BB Mike,

I’ve been a ‘non-fan’ of the Brewer signing from jump street. If ya (y’all) didn’t already know (I posted it here before), Brewer gave up the 2nd most amount of sacks last year for a Center.

I don’t care if he’s a fair run-blocker, we MUST protect the Tua.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Now if Connor Williams is the vet we have on standby, that could change everything. Don’t know where his current health is at, but he’s obviously still unsigned.

I DO have a hunch that it’s Connor Williams who is the alleged vet we have on standby.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Why do I think that? We’ve addressed the Guard positions rather well, at least regarding depth. Not so much on the Center front.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I know (LOL), that doesn’t preclude us from outright drafting a Center… but I feel we’re waiting on somebody… and I feel it’s Connor Williams.

  50. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Let’s see if this works. Stealers* Nation is CLAMORING for them to sign Connor Williams…

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

YES, it worked. This was a mere generalized search for Connor Williams on Twitter, with nothing to do with the Stealers* whatsoever.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

So IF my theory is correct (that it’s Connor Williams we’re waiting on and able to sign on June 1st when we get the Xavien Howard $$$ back), we might not be running to the table for a Center come Thursday.

Just a thought and a theory… nothing more.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And IF my theory is correct, we’ll return 4 of 5 O-Line starters from last year (which was GREAT when healthy!)…

        T-Stead – Wynn - Connor Williams – Robert Jones – A. Jackson

I know of two RGs I’d LOVE to select in the 2nd round: Cooper Beebe (who has played LT) or Christian Haynes. However, that would (most likely) require a tradeup from R2P55.

  51. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Fuaga or Fautanu, any other OL in the 1st is a wasted pick

If we’re going OL in 1st it needs to be a replacement for Armstead next year

If we’re going DL it should be an Edge

Cooper Dejean would complete our backend

  53. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

What we think of Brewer and what the team thinks of him must be completely different, bases on his contract

    I doubt we draft JPJ

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

JPJ can play either OG position. Brewer is not getting top 10 center money (13th when you average out his contract). We have an out clause on Brewer after 2025 with a small amount of dead money. Brewer is more of a stop gap at center. It won’t stop them from drafting one. It could be JPJ or Barton.

    Happy Draft Week Bitches!

  57. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Chris Perkins’ final mock draft has Dolphins trading down with 49er’s to #31 and selecting LT Jordan Morgan. I would not be upset with this at all. Done it in a few of my mocks. Morgan can play LG then move out to LT when Armstead retires.

Could be why we have brought in a few 3rd/4th round prospects for visits.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

A few sites have Morgan as the 3rd best LT in the draft behind Alt and Fashanu. Keep in mind, all these other OT’s many on here like have only ever played RT in their college career’s and only a couple project to be able to play both sides.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

IDK anything about him, but if he can play LT next that will work

DVC says 200 pts or the 14th selection in 3rd rd, would be our compensation, so we can select Kam Kinchens UM safety😁

Getting Kam would make the tradedown amazing

  58. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

LT Jordan Morgan had one of his highest games graded in pass pro and run blocking vs UCLA only giving up 1 pressure. Though he only went up vs Latu about 15 snaps where he gave up one pressure. Latu had 5 pressures and 1.5 sacks attacking the RT.

  59. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I know nobody likes drafting centers in the first round, but it is such a crucial position. The right guy can transform your whole OL. Guards I can get because the position is much less technical. Also, not everybody who can play guard can play center at a high level. Frankly, lots of guards can’t do it. But, a really good center is probably gonna easily transition to guard.

I am never a fan of drafting a guy who you project can play center when they’ve been a guard….even if the guard played center some. If they were good at center, they’d have stayed there.

This is why I prefer JPJ. He hasn’t started at center a long time, but he is a center. He could probably play every position. When I watch JPJ film, I see a center who needs to polish up a few things but has the possibility to be very very good. And, he’s nasty. He plays with an edge and will bring an attitude this OL sorely needs now that Hunt is gone.

  62. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

Morgan isn’t a first round guy, to me. He has a number of positives. Long time starter. Athletic. Smart. But, his versatility is questionable because his strength is average. He also kinda just plays nonchalantly. If I’m drafting a LT in the first round, he needs to be a guy who is gonna be a lead dog. I’m not sure Morgan is. He’s a nice prospect, but I’m not sure he’s a first round talent. I think he probably ends up being a very average LT….now, that may be fine….but not in the first round, for me.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Thanks! Yeah, I don’t think any team has a 1st round grade on him. Dolphins only have a 1st round grade on 21 players is what has been reported. If they trade down to #31 in this scenario, they are likely to not get any of them anyway.

Any time I took Morgan in a mock with our 1st pick it was after a significant trade down.

That said, it would suck to not get a true stud at their position with our 1st pick.

  63. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

    After seeing Barton’s 9.99 RAS … I’m done.

Graham Barton IOL … I will not throw anything at the TV … his athleticism in our offense … no brainer pick (if he is still there, which he could be because he’s a tad undersized).

  64. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I have no idea what grades teams have on prospects. I’ve kind of given up on that. Part of the reason is because guys drafted outside of the 1st round often outperform 1st round picks.

So the QB who benefitted from a soft covid schedule didn’t live up to the hype, shocking. SMH

The guy who the talking heads fell in love with at the combine

I watched NV play in those shitty conferences for 30 years, with few players making an NFL name for themselves or even being relevant to their team, think I can spot a fraud on a pretty consistent basis

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Well, he did beat the Bills, Eagles, and slaughtered another playoff team in the Texans. Then he also led the Jets to an almost come from behind win vs the Chiefs only to lose 23-20. He had much better stats vs KC than Tua also.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins the starting job in Denver. Him under Payton as his HC/OC is a great situation for him.

  66. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

As the day has progressed, I just suddenly remembered a dream I had last night/this morning… it was about Shock G. Can’t recall the specifics (foggy), but he was involved in an altercation of sorts. He ended up saving the lives of a few people and I was there to witness it.

Now I don’t dream about Shock or other dead people EVER… unless one is a deceased member of my family. Plus, the date of 4/22 holds no meaning to me.

I just looked up Shock’s day of death: 4/22… 3 years ago, today. WTF?
Just thought I’d share. Very strange!

  68. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

    So who’s the pick?

    Cooper DeJean 👍

I took a break from most of this year’s draft analysis certainly the least since I’ve been hanging with you guys. Tell you what the draft came way faster this year. I’ve been reading along so I’ve seen BBM give previews on EVERY SINGLE PLAYER but I haven’t look anywhere other than here.

    Get that Iowa wild man!

  69. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

SO MANY different perspectives, and they’re all good! Yeah, I’m talking about who we should pick @ R1P21.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

So long as we don’t trade down TOO FAR (if we even trade down), we’re going to come away with a STUD in the 1st round.

Tim, I think this was directed me and your point is very valid. I just think Wilson is getting a raw deal by many. I mean he was on the Jets after all. Jets D is stout, we all know that and the reason for most of their wins.

I think under Payton he may become a good QB.

Going by the blog mock draft and who is left.

This is the last year for both Armstead and Lamm.

LT of the future: Fashanu is my pick but don’t think he lasts to us.

  76. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Tom Pelissero says he thinks 6 QB’s go in the 1st round. With the Wilson trade, I don’t see it happening. If it does, there will be yet another top player slide to us.

  77. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I have done a mock (or three, lol) with this exact scenario. We could trade Hill after this season for draft capital. If not, he will still be gone after a 2025 season.

“Miami has more holes than most folks realize. The off-loading of Jerome Baker and Xavien Howard—combined with the departures of Christian Wilkins and Andrew Van Ginkel—have left the Dolphins with a lot of work to do under new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. And while they’ve made it work on the offensive line, left tackle Terron Armstead is aging and has been hurt, and they could use help elsewhere up front, too. So with all of that established, one name I’ve heard circled for Miami from other teams is Texas WR Xavier Worthy, who would add even more speed to the offense, and perhaps give the team an off-ramp with Tyreek Hill over the next year or two.”

I know it would piss a lot of people off if it were to happen but with MM, it very well could happen.

  78. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    And then there is this:

    @OmarKelly
The #Dolphins made a strategic decision to not extend or restructure Tyreek Hill’s contract, which could have created major cap space. Is that a sign his time in Miami is coming to an end?
    ———————-
This was the exact reasoning I gave the first time I mocked Xavier Worthy to us.

Anyone remember the pic of MM shaking Worthy’s had at his pro day with the kid in a candy store look on his face?

  79. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    Chop Robinson

As Pro Football Focus points out, Robinson posted an elite 20.9 pass-rush win-rate last season as well as an elite 93.1 true pass-rush set grade. During the NFL Combine, Robinson clocked a blistering 4.48 40-yard dash, and running the short-shuttle in 4.25 seconds.

“Robinson is an alien-like athlete,” PFF writes. “He makes some jaw-dropping plays where he can fire off the line and get into the backfield with ease. However, outside of his first step and fast hands, he is an incomplete pass-rusher.

    Wait what? There’s such a thing as a pass-rush win-rate, I thought only sacks mattered😜

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I had an epiphany, it just came to me. A pressure is like when a QB throws a beautiful pass but the receiver drops the ball, and all you get is an incompletion.

  80. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

maybe the league ordered Payton to take Wilson as apology for trashing Wilson’s OC or maybe he went and got Wilson to prove he could do a better job with him than the jest did.

Broncos only have Stidham and diNucci left at QB

after the very expensive Russell Wilson divorce alimony.
