Miami Dolphins 2024 Season Schedule

OK Dolphins fans, the schedule is out, so now we know who we’re playing, when we’re playing them, and most importantly, where we’re playing them. We start off the season with 2 home games in a row, but neither of those games give us a real heat advantage. Our home opener is against another FLA team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, so they’re nearly as accustomed to the heat as our team is. We then play the Bills on Thursday Night Football, which not only gives us a short week, but the heat advantage is nullified by the 8:20PM start, because the sun won’t be baking the Bills players all game long. The Jaguars drafted LSU WR Brian Thomas is RD1 and he should help QB Trevor Lawrence, who no longer has WR Calvin Ridley, so Brian Thomas, veteran WR Christian Kirk, along with TE Evan Engram, and newly acquired former Bills WR Gabe Davis round out the receiving corps.

The Bills, appear to have taken a step back, but as you know, I strongly feel that as long as Josh Allen is their QB, we’ll always have a difficult time taking them down. The Bills traded back a couple of times and made their first selection in RD2 taking Florida State WR Keon Coleman. who gives Allen a big target with excellent 50/50 ball skills. He makes those difficult catches, but we’ll have to see how quickly he can be assimilated into the offense. The Bills also added former Dolphins WR Chase Claypool. We know this is going to be a tough matchup, especially if our star OLB’s are missing, Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb, and we’re forced to rely on rookies Chop Robinson and Mo Kamara, along with veteran LB Shaq Barrett.

Our first road trip will be a long one, all the way to the farthest state in the contiguous United States, Washington, the farthest NW state, to face the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks selected my favorite DL in this draft, Byron Murphy from Texas at #16 in RD1. Later on they picked up Connecticut OG Christian Haynes, who many here liked as well. The Seahawks will bring back QB Geno Smith as their starter, along with veteran WR’s D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. The Seahawks were 9-8 last season, so I’d hope we can make the best of that long road trip.

When we return home to Florida, we’ll host the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football for a rematch. If you’re a Dolphins fan, you couldn’t possibly forget the the last minute upset victory by QB Will Levis and RB Derrick Henry. The Dolphins led 27-13 in the 4th QTR, but the Titans got 2 unanswered TD’s, one a TD pass from Will Levis to WR DeAndre Hopkins, and then after the Dolphins drive stalled and we punted, QB Will Levis found WR DeAndre Hopkins on a deep pass for 36 yards from the TEN 36, which then led to a Derrick Henry 3 yard plunge to take the lead 28-27, leaving the Dolphins 1 minute and 49 seconds to win the game. The drive started at the MIA 26, and the Dolphins managed one first down before losing the ball on downs, a 4th and 2 sack of Tua by Harold Landry, and that was that. A brutal collapse that I’m sure our boys would love to avenge!

Our next game is a road trip to the Northeast, to face our division rival New England Patriots. We’ve been doing well against the Pats the last 3 years and have 5-1 record against the Brady-less squad. The Patriots drafted what they hope is their franchise QB taking North Carolina QB Drake Maye at #3 in RD1. It’s entirely possible veteran QB Jacoby Brissett is under center but the Patriots may elect to begin the future for Maye sooner. Playing in Foxborough in October won’t be a weather disadvantage for us, so hopefully we can come away with another road victory.

We’ll have an early BYE week this season, and that will be Week 6. I’d always prefer a later BYE, but if our 2 OLB’s are still OUT at this juncture, I’d say their return could be the following week. We come out of our BYE Week and travel to Indianapolis to face the Colts. Colts starting QB Anthony Richardson, drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft #4 overall in RD1, was injured last season, but will be the starter once again this season. Richardson looked promising last season before the injury (Shoulder). The Colts have feature back RB Jonathan Taylor and in addition to WR Michael Pittman, the Colts drafted WR Adonai Mitchell from Texas in RD 2. It was, however their first pick at #15, when they selected pass rusher Laiatu Latu from UCLA that made Dolphins fans groan. Both of those players should make an impact for the Colts this season, and this will be no walk in the park.

Week 8 will bring us to this year’s Fest Game, as we host the Arizona Cardinals at Hard Rock, Sunday October 27th, just a scant few days before our own Herd’s birthday! The Cardinals suffered a rough 4-13 record last year. Their first draft pick should help QB Kyler Murray, who missed 8 games last season, and was pretty awful when he played. The Cards selected potentially the most NFL ready WR in the draft, and perhaps the best WR, in Ohio St. WR Marvin Harrison Jr at #4 in RD1. The Cards later added big DL Darius Robinson from Missouri. I would hope we can handle the Cards, and make it a wonderful birthday weekend for Herd!

We head back on the road to a place that has not been kind to us. The weather shouldn’t be a huge factor in Buffalo in early November, but Orchard Park is a little bit of a house of horrors for our Dolphins. We haven’t won there since 2016, and that was an OT affair, in which not Ryan Tannehill, but backup Matt Moore engineered the victory. I would love nothing more for our Dolphins to end the damn curse there, but we need to be healthy, and we’ll need to be physical. Tall task of course, but this is the 3rd season for HC Mike McDaniel, and I hope he can find the right gameplan to take the Bills down in their house. That would be a huge victory for our team.

We travel to California for yet another Monday Night affair, as we face off against the NFC’s Los Angeles Rams. The Rams, led by QB Matt Stafford had a nice finish last season making the playoffs, only to lose a tough matchup against the Detroit Lions, and their former QB Jared Goff, he of $212M contract fame. The Rams drafted 2 very good defensive players in the 2024 NFL Draft, first beginning with Florida St. pass rusher Jared Verse. The Rams then doubled down and took Florida St. DT Braden Fiske, both players favorites here. The Rams have big WR Puka Nacua who had 105 receptions last year for an astounding 1486 yards. The Rams feature a RB by committee approach with RB’s Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and Ronnie Rivers, and gone is RB Darrell Henderson. Stafford throws a lot, and the rookies will add some pop to their defense.

In Week 11, we return home to host the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders moved on from oft injured QB Jimmy Garropolo and signed veteran backup QB Gardner Minshew III. The Raiders tried to improve the offense by drafting the best TE available in the 2024 NFL Draft, TE Brock Bowers, and then following that up with a very good OC prospect we all know here, JPJ Jackson Powers-Johnson. RB Zamir White gets his chance to shine as heads the RB room. Veteran WR Davante Adams still brings it every game, along with Jakobi Meyers. The Raiders had a tough season last year, we’ll see how well Gardner Minshew fares as the starter.

In Week 12, we host the Patriots for our 2nd meeting of the season. Hopefully being home for 2 consecutive weeks has this team rested and ready to go because we need to beat the Patriots as we begin the difficult part of our schedule. I’d imagine Drake Maye will playing by then, that’s if he doesn’t start the season from the get go. Hopefully, our defense is humming along at full strength, with Phillips and Chubb back in the groove, and we give him more than he can handle.

Week 13 is where the most challenging part of the schedule starts. We fly to Wisconsin for a Thanksgiving Evening matchup in the cold climes of Green Bay to face the Packers. The Packers, despite a middling record of 9-8 managed to whip the Dallas Cowboys 48-32, and QB Jordan Love made it look easy. Love threw 3 TD’s, and no INT’sand RB Aaron Jones added 118 yards on the ground. The Packers lost the 49ers in a very competitive 24-21 loss. The Packers signed FA RB Josh Jacobs, and will pair him A.J. Dillon, as they finally parted ways with RB Aaron Jones. The Packers feature 3 young WR’s, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed. Obviously, the weather could be a big factor here, we don’t play well on the road when it’s cold, that’s been heavily documented. We need to somehow find a way to overcome that, or don’t expect to see this team go any further than we did last season.

We come home in Week 14 to host our division rival NY Jets for the first time in ’24, a 1PM, but it’s December 8th, so the heat won’t be a factor unless South Florida has some crazy heat wave. The Jets had horrendous O-line play, and they did what they could to remedy that by drafting Penn State OT Olu Fashanu, much loved here on FMU, especially by PSU fans Brian in NY and M13. The Jets also made a big Free Agency acquisition, taking WR Mike Williams from the LA Chargers. In addition, in RD 3 they drafted their slot WR Malachi Corley from Western Kentucky. To help bolster the O-line, the Jets also signed former Cowboys OT Tyron Smith, and OG John Simpson from the Ravens. Of course, Aaron Rodgers should be back as well, so the Jets will no longer be an easy task in ’24, as long as he stays healthy. WR Garrett Wilson will no doubt benefit from having Mike Williams on the other side.

In Week 15, we travel to Texas to take on the Houston Texans. The upstart Texans had a very successful 2023 season. Their young QB who they drafted #2 in the ’23 NFL Draft played like a pro right out of the gate. He had an excellent season, even winning their first playoff matchup against the Cleveland Browns in impressive fashion, 45-14, in which Stroud threw 3 TD’s and finished with a 157.2 rating, nearly perfect. The Texans didn’t waste any time improving the roster, picking up WR Stefon Diggs from the Bills. Add Diggs to the already talented young WR corps of Nico Collins and Tank Dell, and that offense will be tough to stop.

Week 16 brings the San Francisco 49ers to Miami for a late Sunday Kickoff at 4:25PM. No doubt, Dar and Toba will do their best to attend, or should I say Dar will do her best to drag Doug to FLA to see her beloved Niners. Any way you slice it, this is a very trying task for our team. The Niners who of course lost a close matchup with the SB Champion Chiefs are an excellent team. The Niners drafted slot WR Ricky Pearsall from Florida with the 31st pick in RD1. Later, they also added RB Isaac Guerrendo, a fan favorite here for sure. The Niners defense is tremendous, and QB Brock Purdy will be in his 3rd season in this offense. Tough job here, but maybe the home crowd can get us a win!

Week 17 will have us back on the road after a rough matchup with the Niners. We travel to yet another cold weather destination, Cleveland to face the Browns. The Browns had all kinds of QB troubles last season. DeShaun Watson played in only 6 games, and veteran QB Joe Flacco gave Cleveland a nice temporary jolt, but ultimately they got wiped by the young Houston Texans in the playoffs, 45-14. Joe Flacco is no longer a Brown, but they have quite the interesting QB room with Watson, Jameis Winston, and former Ravens backup Tyler Huntley. The Browns feature the WR trio of Amari Cooper, former Broncos Wr Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore, former Jets WR. TE David Njoku still toils the seam there. They have one of the most productive run games in the NFL with RB Nick Chubb and Jerome Ford. They have an excellent O-line as well, and a solid defense. I can only hope our team is healthy at this point of the season, and we prove we can win a cold weather game on the road.

The Week 18, Season Finale will have us traveling to my area, New Jersey to face the NY Jets, which could be for the Division Crown! The game has not yet been given an actual date, it can potentially be flexed, but some time that weekend of January 4-6, we’ll be playing the Jets. As stated before, if Aaron Rodgers is the QB, they’re a considerably better opponent than we faced with QB Zach Wilson under center, and he’s now in Denver, behind rookie QB Bo Nix. By this point last season, our defense was a shell of what it started as, too many injuries to the D-line and mostly OLB’s to mention here. It was absurd. We must be in better condition and we have to do better managing that. Whether it’s the Jets we’re competing with for the crown, or the Bills, this will obviously be a huge game either way. We know we have folded too many times at the end of the season, time to fucking turn that around!

and don’t get me started about how overrated the jests are!

they were not a healthy Aaron Rogers away from going from 7-10 to double digit wins

I’m going to Oink this over and over until my snout falls off!

    BREECE HALL IS NOT ELITE

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Breece Hall doesn’t have to be elite. They had OL issues last year. BUT, the Jets did 20x more to fix that issue by signing studs in LT Tyron Smith and LG John Simpson to go with the stud OC they drafted year before in Tippman and RG Vera-Tucker. Then they drafted Fashanu as a backup LT. Their OL will be stout this year.

They added a monster to their RB room via draft in Braelon Allen who is 6’1 235 from Wisconsin to go along with Breece Hall and Abanikanda.

      Signed WR Mike Williams.

They only really lost Edge Bryce Huff in FA but added DT Javon Kinlaw and sack master Haason Reddick to an already very good defense.

  2. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

TBH, Jets scare me more than the Bills this year.

  3. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

As far as on paper, Jets have the best roster in the AFCE and are the team to beat in the AFCE.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t see the Jets being overrated at all. They shored up the O-line, the defense will be better because the offense won’t have 3 and outs all day long.

  4. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

With each step the former Miami Hurricanes standout took there was a noticeable limp from Phillips, who tore the Achilles tendon in his right leg in late November and is facing a nine-to-12-month rehabilitation process.

While Phillips’ personal goal is to be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season, the limp on display hints he has plenty of work ahead of him, just to get back onto the practice field for unrestricted work.

The Jets will implode again this year. I don’t care what the talent on the roster is. Their leadership is a cluster fuck

  6. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

The Bills secondary has been dealing with a ton of injuries the last couple of years. They got away from paying these guys big money and being oft-injured.

They should be weaker this year, but ultimately they had to make some cap decisions, and it makes sense to me they are rebuilding where they were aging and where injuries have left them hurting the last couple of seasons anyway.

  7. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

        I guess time will tell.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I do think you have to consider Rodgers a bit questionable. The issue with all teams on paper is do they all stay healthy and play up to their projections. The battle of attrition is the key to a season. That’s why I don’t put too much stock into preseason predictions. I’ve seen it not pan out too many times.

Still a chance to get in. Ordered a few extras and some free up each year before final payment time comes (but after that everything is locked in).

Seat draft over. We are at the back end zone (Sec 328) just around the corner from the type of section we had last two years. Price was up ten bucks to $95 (actually cheapest home game group ticket of the season).

    Sec 328, rows 25-28.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Parking ain’t easy, or at least there are options.

Toba normally sets up the “Toba Bus.” They pick up in Hollywood at a few spots, do a drop off at the stadium fence and then pick up after. Think that is normally $20-$30 per person.

Then there is getting an actual pass. Talking stubhub.

Orange Pass — Prices vary depending on game. Ones I got for the tailgate last year were like $200 (but again that can vary…including by exactly when you order). That would let you roll right up.

You can also get a yellow one. That will be cheaper, but also across the street from the stadium. So a walk to the tailgate.

They also have sattelite parking now with buses to the stadium. That is cheap as anything but also a pain in the ass.

Ken I think you are close

but I think we will see the jests “in the hunt” late in the seasons

so it won’t be a mid season firing

it will be a January firing

completely agree on letting Rogers run the team

I don’t think Rogers is really focused on football either

but the biggest problem on the jests is probably nathanial hacket

the jests were last in the league in total TDs in 2023

you rarely see an OC survive that kind of putrid performance

to me it just looks like the bubble going to burst and then we will look back at the last 3 years as being as close to mediocrity as a team can get

    ————-

I agree with Brother ER on this matter. IF A-Rod returns to full health, he’s going to be a problem this season. Many wrote Tom Brady off at age 43 when he went to the Bucs (A-Rod is 3 years younger than then Tom Brady).

If nothing more… if A-Rod is merely a game-manager at this point… he’s going to be a huge headache for us in the AFC EAST. I mean, it’s not as though A-Rod has forgotten how to play football, even if he’s not 100% 2021 A-Rod when he won his 4th NFL MVP.

As a team (us Phins), we must NOT overlook or underestimate a single game. The stej look really good on paper… let’s keep it that way… only on paper. We’ve gotta bring our ‘A’ game, each and every week.

While most experts were picking the Rangers to prevail, I had to side with expert P.K. Subban (a former star in the NHL) who boldly predicted a Panther’s victory in tonight’s contest.

So far, so good. The Panthers lead 1-0 after 2 periods. And the Rangers have only 11 shots on goal after 2 periods, tied for their lowest of the season. The visiting Panthers seem to be playing a game of “Keep Away” with the Rangers powerful offense.

F you PFN! I’ll still use your simulator though. lol

They have the Dolphins finishing tied with the Jets and Pats at 9-8 and all missing the playoffs. They have Bills winning the division at 11-6.

No confidence in the NFC as they have 11 of 16 teams in the AFC with 9-8 record or better.

We will show PFN. I predict 10-7 and another WC.

  26. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think Tua is a better QB than Aaron Rogers right now

2024 Rogers is a 40 year QB recovering from an Achilles injury he incurred.

forget about what he used to be and think about what he is now.

On his first few plays of the season. Within minutes of putting stress on his Achilles in 2023 – it ruptured. Guys that’s not good from a general health perspective.

we didn’t even get to see the affects of a season on his body (which is usually significant for a 40 year old ) bc he didn’t last more than a few plays

his 2022 was also the worst year of his career

I haven’t see a lot of players come back strong after a major injury the year after the worst year in his career

usually the combo spells hard decline

even the original trade shows both teams were skeptical about his ability to play at a high level without injury after the trade.

The trade was not actually a trade where the jets gave up a first – they swapped 1st rounders in 2023 (and gave up a 2nd) and the 2024 pick was a conditional 2nd rounder that can become a 1st if he plays 65% of the plays

    which of course he didn’t

that isn’t a trade for a hall of fame QB playing in his prime – that’s a trade where both teams realize there is substantial risk he doesn’t even play – which of course is what occurred in 2023

sure – he can come back and play better than ever

but it’s real illogical to be willing to assume it will happen to a mid middle aged man who’s coming back from injury during his own decline

while at the same time removing the possibility of improvement from Tua who is standing right on top of a young career where he’s gotten better each year

After the season ended, I expressed frustration with Tua. I get his weaknesses. But the reality is he lead the league in passing yards and improved every year of his career so far

he’s gonna be better in 2024 than he was in 2023. I’m sure of that. Not sure how much better he will be.

    Keep some perspective guys

Tua’s passing yardage total last was more passing yards than Rogers had in single season during his entire career with the exception of one season (2011)

    that’s not peanuts

Tua is a better QB than Rogers right now. That’s not illogical fandom. The 2023 results should speak for themselves

I guess NFC does suck for a majority of the teams. I just did PFN’s Playoff Predictor where you select the winner of every game every week. I didn’t keep up with record as it went along.

At the end of it, similar to PFN, I had 10 of 16 AFC teams with winning records.

Bills must not have a hard schedule either and/or most of their tough games at home because they ended up winning the division at 12-5 and we ended up with the #1 WC slot on the road to Cleveland. KC got the bye.

-QB: top-10. Let’s not forget that Skyler damn near beat the Bills in Buffalo in the ’22 playoffs. Mike White… meh, but he doesn’t suck. Tua is the real deal and he’s going to progress even more this season, word is bond.

-RB: top-5. Mostert, Achane, and now Jaylen Wright? Not to mention Ahmed, Wilson, and Brooks. Add FB Ingold and we’re golden.

-WR: top-3. Cheetah, Penguin, OBJ, River Raid, EZ-E, Berrios, and the Brothers Washington.

-TE: top-12. Jonnu, Smythe, Julian Hill, and Fortson? Looks good to me and likely to exceed my expectations.

-O-Line: top-16? It all comes down to health and availability, once again. Is Brewer the answer at Center? Will PP be pressed into action early once T-Stead goes down? Robert Jones < Robert Hunt. Can Isaiah Wynn stay healthy and be as proficient as he was when healthy last season?

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think they are mentally weak bc they lost late in the year. I hate those sort of analysis that makes it about the personality/character of the team instead of what occurs on the field

      the Dolphins losses aren’t inexplicable

I think they lost late in the year primarily bc they are built for speed and Quick scoring and they have not adjusted well to what good teams with physical defenses are throwing at them.

Defenses were being very physical with Hill and Waddle at the LOS in those losing games. And we just didn’t counter it.

injuries are a factor but they are also unavoidable. Some years are worse than others – hopefully we get on the positive side of that issue in 2024

But it won’t matter if we avoid injuries and still fail at adjusting. That’s my biggest concern.

Some of it may be driven by offensive limitations:

*Using our TE as a 6th OL removes an option of a receiving threat.
*Having to get the ball out quickly also probably makes it hard to adjust.
*And running the passing game primarily through 2 WRs also hurts our ability to make adjustments

maybe OBJ, Jonnu and the continued improvement of our OL are difference makers this year 🤷

for me calling a team mentally weak is actually weak analysis

you can see on the field how teams like KC, a Baltimore, Philly and Buffalo were defending us (their DBs were really physical with out WRs) and you can see we didn’t have an answer for it

some of the personnel moves this yeat might be difference makers

    https://www.si.com/nfl/dolphins/news/is-the-national-media-sleeping-on-the-dolphins-01hynkjwsycw

I think his reason at the end is exactly how I feel about the team, and when I hear fans blathering on about how good our team is, I feel like I’ll believe it when I see it, and that doesn’t mean just going 11-6, it means beating quality teams anywhere we have to play them , our house, their house, good weather or cold weather, no matter. When we do that, I’ll blather too! 🙂

  41. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I’m sure we’ve gotten a lot tougher ignoring the LOS and bringing in 12 WRs!

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Lol

      Randy

      see my comment above

although I think the OL and getting the ball out quickly hurt us last year

I also think bringing in Jonnu Smith and OBJ, who should be able to handle physical DBs better, is huge for us

waddle and hill accounted for 2800 of our receiving yards last year

the next highest receiver was Durham Smythe with under 400 yards

when defenses were physical with Waddle and Hill at the LOS the offense falls apart

  42. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    piggy,

I just recall a lot of games down the stretch where it felt like we were a weak team. I’m sorry…but that starts up front. I think Tyreek, for instance, is a tough dude, but if you’re getting beat in the trenches, it doesn’t matter. I think I understand how MM likes to play, but sooner or later you need to win games in the trenches…especially in big games late in the season in bad conditions. You know who fades first in those situations? Skill players! Lol

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think Tyreke is a tough WR too

but it doesn’t matter if he’s getting manhandled and he can’t get to the spot our offense needs him to be for an offense built on timing

we are built to run the ball on the edges, not so much built to run up the middle – I think it’s kind of an experiment in terms of whether it works or not bc it does deviate from the 🏈 a lot of us grew up on

but MM doesn’t care about that….lol

We put zero effort into being a more physical team this year (in terms of personnel)

but they ran to the phone to sign Jonnu Smith the minute he was available

I get MM’s vision. He wants to break a defenses spirit in a couple of plays. I think that puts us fundamentally at odds with becoming a more physical team

I don’t know if it works

but I do know – there is almost more than 1 way of doing things…even in football

MM believes in this vision. So I’m along for the ride

  43. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    piggy,

Also, being physical with our WRs not only wears them down, but it throws off the timing offense we run. Teams learned by the middle of the season to cut off those in-cutting routes in the intermediate middle of the field, and Tua would struggle making plays. MM rarely adjusted either. We kept doing the same shit over and over again….just with flashier motion. Can Tua throw a simple 10-15 yard out once in awhile? I know that can be an issue with smaller QBs but come on.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

yeah – it killed the timing of our offense and the whole thing came apart

I think Tua can make that pass, in fact, that really should be his strength

imo – that’s just MM refusing to adjust, some of it may be driven by personnel

I think we lost the battle of attrition at the end of the season. We lost a lot of key players in crunch time. Besides the players that couldn’t play at all, we were also very banged up at multiple positions. We weren’t the same team at the end of the season that we started with.

    • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

    Tim,

The offense scored 2 TDs. None until the 4th quarter. We also won the TOP and still couldn’t keep up. This team’s success is predicated on offensive production. MM has built the team that way…so go win the game and don’t play like crap for 3 quarters.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Every game is different. The offense didn’t lose the game, the defense did. There was 4:39 left on the clock and we all thought we put the game away in the 4th quarter up by 14. You would think the defense could make a play or two.

Regardless of what the defense did in any of those games down the stretch and including the playoffs, our offense didn’t do nearly enough to win those games. The defense had an excuse, the offense does not. We have to be better, be clutch, make plays all game long, stay strong and competitive in the 4th quarter, not disappear.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Titans game was on the defense. We’re talking about that specific game. Not one person I know looked at the offense for that loss on that day. The reason is because the offense scored two TDs in the 4th quarter to go up by 14 with less than 5 minutes to go. Why are we trying to change the narrative about that game? The defense held them to 13 points for 55 minutes and allowed 15 in 4:39. That’s a bad job. It’s as if they played like the game was over instead of playing like no way we’re letting you come back. It was awful to watch.

That game was lost on O, on D (something weird happened with Fangio at the end, he called something retarded), MMs horrible play calling, only STs did their part with a fumble recovery at about 10

ugh you made me go through the schedule I think it was the Eagles but they won by two scores maybe one of those scores was a result of a bad snap that set them up. I’m going by my memory and then it looks like the KC game in Germany we lost by 7 with the 🐅fumble.
we lost the second Bills game by 7 also.

  49. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The offense not only didn’t get a TD until the 4th Quarter but it was after a Titans muffed punt recovered at the 7 where Tua and the O only had to go 7 yards for the TD.

Oh, and the second TD was after a fumble created by the D and offense only had to go 12 yards for the TD.

The offense only had to go a total of 19 yards for the 2 TD’s.

Titans then came back and made it 27-21 Dolphins.

With 2:40 left, all the O had to do was get a couple 1st downs. Nope! They go 3 and out only taking 25 sec off the clock.

    Titans score again.

But, the Dolphins O had 1:49 seconds left just to get in FG range. Nope wasn’t happening. Isn’t this where the QB was supposed to take control?

  50. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Son, there is a narrative out there that it’s all on MM’s offense and Tua. It clouds the vision of what happened in the game. Yes sometimes the offense struggles and Tua didn’t play well. But keep some other things in perspective too. Football is a team game and complimentary football is a real thing.

This is a big season for the team this year with MM as HC in year 3 and the investment in significant players. Let’s hope we’re more durable this year and better depth might help with that. I absolutely expect us to be in the mix again.

You know that some QB’s raise the level of play of their team. Those are the difference makers, the ones that get it done. They’re the ones who don’t need you to make a dozen or so excuses for them because they do it. Tua does it against the lesser teams, and then as soon as we play a team with equal or better talent, he plays small. Tua is THAT guy now. Can he become THE guy, time will tell. It’s not a narrative, once again, these are facts, it’s there for anyone and everyone to see.

  53. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – I’m going to say this, if Tua was the slam dunk you thought he was, he would have had his contract already. It’s really that simple. I know they want continuity, but they don’t want to get stuck with him if he doesn’t play better or worse, gets injured again. This is a tough situation for both sides.

  54. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Sonny – we were weren’t beating Buffalo if there were no bad snaps. I actually don’t recall Eichenberg having any bad snaps, but who knows. Anyway, Tua hasn’t been IT, hopefully this season he is. I’d love to be pleasantly surprised, we’ll have to wait and see. Maybe Jonnu and OBJ make a world of difference.

  55. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, we can’t re-sign Tua until June. It’s all negotiations now. All I ever went by is what Grier and McDaniel have said about Tua. They have publicly said they expect him to be our QB moving forward. His numbers are very good and the agent is using them in negotiations. It’s no different than anyone else looking for the big contract.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

  56. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I don’t think my 4:49 post was nitpicking at all. It was the facts of how the game went down. Everyone wants to put it ALL on the defensive breakdown.

Well, the offense had 2 chances to save the day also. With the lead and 2:40 left but went 3 and out. With 1:49 left needed about 36 yards for a game winning FG, didn’t get it done there either.

The offense had 4 possessions in the second half with drives of 22, 16, 8 and 6 yards.

I am not letting the D off the hook, but in no way is that loss all on the D.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We never give the opponent tip of the hat as if they don’t matter. They got a stop and prevented us from getting a 1st down. Why is our defense expected to not step up? We’re not going far in the playoffs with that kind of play either.

When do you ever expect a team with a 27-13 lead with 4:39 to go to lose?

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Seriously, if Coach McDaniel is trying to approach O-Line protection as in the ‘Patsie* way’ (putting mere speed bumps out there for Tua to get rid of the ball ASAP like Tom Brady), it’s going to backfire… as it has over the last two seasons in terms of playoff victories.

Why? As Randy stated earlier, our speed WRs get jammed (and ultimately wear down over the course and late in the season). Brady didn’t have that problem, being he never threw to a track team.

Coach McDaniel is going to HAVE to embrace a hybrid system of both speed and strength, IMO.

Either infuse more strength into the LOS, and/or get some big-bodied receivers who don’t get jammed at the LOS.

the guitar solo ending the song

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Oh okay. No that’s my friend Andy, I play the rhythm guitar part throughout the song. I wrote that part back around 2010 and that is the recording you hear. I wrote the melody and lyrics in 2023. Andy plays multiple instruments, my friend Paul plays percussion and drums, and I recruited Joanne through friends of mine in a music scene.

Ok thanks well it sounds really good something all of you should be proud of

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I agree, I really enjoyed that.

  79. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

For the record, I think Tua has to play better in pressure situations. But I think he’s a guy who always wants to get better and I think he will.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I agree and don’t think he may have reached his ceiling in the area of extending/making plays. One thing we haven’t seen (yet) is a decline in performance. He seems to improve some aspect of his game every offseason to go along with what he improved on the previous year. Gotta give him that.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed. Can’t throw the deep ball or stay healthy. He keeps checking off boxes.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It’s all bullshit, Mike takes one aspect of Tua’s game from last year, that he didn’t succeed in and everyone takes it hook line and sinker

In other seasons Tua was very good adlibbing, but couldn’t stay healthy, then last year he gained weight to stay on the field and it messed up his mobility

Last year was the perfect storm between injuries, his limited mobility and the league catching up to how to cover Hill and Waddle

Compared to last year of course he needs to play better, he wasn’t comfortable with his 3rd+ receivers, because of OL issues and his limited mobility

Even with a worse OL he’ll be able to make plays, because of his mobility and new receivers

As far as the contract, it’s obvious the team needs to protect against injury, and Tua’s team needs to get as much fully guaranteed money as possible, hence the delay, but waiting another year to see if he can beat good teams is a croc of shit, he’s done it in past seasons

    What will Waddle want???

    @NFL_DovKleiman

Brandon Aiyuk appears to want the #49ers to beat Amon-Ra St. Brown’s contract and is using it as a “benchmark,” per @jfowlerespn

Amon-Ra St. Brown signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the #Lions that included $77 million in guaranteed money.

  84. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I mentioned him before. This is just RIDICULOUS at his size!!

South Carolina football star Nyck Harbor (@Nyck1k) qualified for the NCAA nationals in both the 100m & 200m

    He ran 10.12 & 20.20

Tyreek Hill who’s considered the fastest in the NFL ran 10.19 & 20.14

Harbor is a 6’5/240lbs freshman WR.

  86. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – I don’t understand what you’re saying. Playing far worse against better teams in big games isn’t “an aspect of his game”. It’s also not just my opinion, or anyone’s opinion for that matter, it exists in plain sight for anyone who wishes to look. I know how well he played against everyone else, which makes it hard to excuse how poorly he played in important games with the season on the line. You look at the entire picture, and there’s a definite dropoff there every time we played a tough team.

Think of it in this light. You have a boxer who who is destroying all the ham and egger boxers, looks great, but every time he fights a real contender, he looks bad and can’t win the fight. Is that boxer ever going to be a legit contender? I understand that football is a team game, so it’s different, but when there becomes enough of a history to look at, it’s real. The Eagles, The Chiefs (X2), The Bills (X2), and the Ravens. You can throw in the Titans game too because despite our lead, at crunch time he didn’t get it done. You go back to ’22, and at the end of his season, he played awful against the Niners, Chargers, and Packers. He did play OK against the Bills though, so props there.

If you think all these things I’m bringing up are just a narrative, or even that it’s an opinion, it’s not. How much stock you want to put into these games are where opinion comes in. If you think I make them more important than I should, then that is an opinion, as is how important I think it is. I like Tua, I think he’s a great kid, and he’s as accurate a QB as I’ve ever seen. I’m just not convinced he has what it takes to step up and slay the better teams. I do value that quite a bit because I want to win playoff games and maybe go all the way. Not trying to be mean, but I don’t get how anyone can have confidence that he will do that based on what we’ve seen historically from him, and there’s a fair amount of data there.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

For you historically is the end of last season, you keep saying he can’t beat the better teams like Bal 2022, Buff 2022, LAC 2023 (week 1, when they were a damn good team and Tua won a shootout) Det 2022 also in a shootout

Obviously he played poorly at the end of last year and we all know that, so what was different at the end of last season and the end of 2022?

That’s what MM and Grier get paid to figure out

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Well, the end of the season is where it all counts Steve. That’s where you get your spot in the playoffs and what seed you are, and what team you play. We played Buffalo 2 seasons ago in Buffalo and KC in KC last season because of that. Am I overemphasizing the importance of those games? Doesn’t seem that way!

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It’s not just the end of the season that I discussed, it was Philly, KC mid season, the Bills in early October.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Not to pile on, but it was also the end of the season in ’22, before and after he got hurt. No way to say that isn’t important. It’s not how you start the season, it’s how you finish. No one can argue against that

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m not arguing that, I’m arguing your cherry picked games

You could say his record sucks against good teams, instead of he can’t beat good teams

His very first start was against a very good Rams team, he won, even though he didn’t need to have a lot of passing yards he did what he had to do

  87. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

agreed Mike. It wasn’t JUST Tua, who has played poorly in those games, but he certainly did as well. Until he wins some games against winning teams when it counts, and not counting the cherry picking that goes on, then we won’t get to where we need to be.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Thanks Bri – Sometimes I wonder if I’m crazy and no one else here notices these things. Truth is, I am crazy, and most people just won’t admit the truth. 😛

  88. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – How are they cherry picked? They’re either at the end of the season or they aren’t, right? Look at his play at the end of the ’22 and ’23 season. It’s downright ugly, especially if you compare that play to how he plays against everyone else. That’s the thing, if he played poorly against everyone, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. He plays like an elite QB against some teams, and then can’t even play average football at the end of the season

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

You said he can’t beat good teams, then when i said the good teams he’s beaten you changed it to good teams at the end of the season

2022 he started out on fire, then after the concussions he was a mess

2023 started out on fire, then once injuries took hold adjustments weren’t made to beat the better teams, he gets blame as does MM

How soon we forget the streak he had in 2022 until the SF game, he was beating everyone 8-0 in games he started and finished, so what changed?

He put on weight to stay healthy and it cost him his mobility

  89. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Mike E,

Respectfully, I feel you are saddling Tua with too much of the blame when it comes to beating the upper-echelon teams. Can he do better? ABSOLUTELY! I don’t believe there’s anybody here who would argue otherwise, and I’m certain Tua himself would concur.

There’s been freak shit that’s occurred over the last two seasons… injuries (look no further than Phillips and Chubb last season, not to mention our O-Line), botched plays (ie: ‘Reek fumbling the ball in Frankfurt, resulting in a Defensive TD for the Chefs* to win), wear-down towards the end of the season (it KILLED me to see ‘Reek coming in and out of plays down the stretch… he was in obvious PAIN!), AND failure to adapt in terms of play-calling (that’s on the coach and coordinators).

There was absolutely NO WAY we were going into KC on Wildcard weekend and winning with -30 windchills with street FAs starting for us: we’re built for the heat and humidity of South Florida. Several fans ended up getting amputations from frostbite due to the weather that blistery day. Roger Goodell needs to be held accountable for that, especially after he called off the Bills game that same day (traffic problems due to snow… SMMFH).

I’m just sayin’, there’s more than one way to kill a cat… and we ran through 9 lives last season with all that had occurred. Interestingly enough, Tua was one of our only players left standing at the end of the season… he didn’t miss a single game.

We don’t need a perfect scenario for Tua to rise to the occasion against the better teams… we just need to maintain health (we were the LEAST healthy team in the NFL last season), we need everybody to elevate their game just a notch (Tua included), and we need to play with more intelligence (that especially includes Coach McDaniel’s play-calling and decision-making).

Mike E, I all but guarantee that you’ll be impressed by Tua’s progress from last season to this season, my Brother!!! EVERY YEAR, he’s taken it up another notch to silence his critics!!!

    CAN’T WAIT!!!
    GO PHINS!!!
    GO TUA!!!
    HELL YEAH!!!

    MikeE,

Crazy is the new normal so you’re good!

  91. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Availability to play is not an accomplishment. It’s an expectation. No ribbons awarded for playing.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I agree with this. Tua doesn’t need to be awarded a blue ribbon for making it through without sustaining injury, but most of the rest of the team needs to be awarded coal in their stockings for Christmas. What a horrific season for injuries to us last season.

  92. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Weather is just another obstacle…overcome it or let it overcome you. I don’t get this defeatist mentality. So, we can never win a game in the cold? Fuck that!

And, I STILL think we could’ve beaten KC that day. They were beatable.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Randy, the Chefs* won the Super Bowl last season. They made it through the gaunlet that is the NFL playoffs and they now have back-to-back Super Bowl wins… nobody could beat them when it mattered.

Can’t tell me we stood a chance against them when we were starting multiple street FAs signed a week prior, against them in -30 windchills! Mind you this as well: they were the home team and are host to one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL!

Maybe it happens in the movies, but we were NOT going to win that game. Even if it came down to a best-of-seven series like in MLB or the NBA, we’d have gone four-and-out under our circumstances, THE circumstance, and the incumbent (and soon-to-be repeating) Super Bowl champs.
