“It’s time for me to hang it up. It’s been a great ride and I appreciate everything that came with it over the years,” Barrett wrote on Instagram. “I’m ready to shift my full focus to my wife and kids … [I know] to some it’ll be a surprise, but I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and the decision has never been more clear [than] it is now.”
This was obviously a surprise to the Dolphins front office, and so now the Dolphins will be looking for another veteran to fill the OLB shoes previously occupied by Barrett. Emmanuel Ogbah will making a visit and do a workout for the Dolphins tomorrow. The Dolphins are quite familiar with Ogbah as he has played the last 4 seasons here in Miami. Despite Ogbah being here last season, it was by far the fewest amount of snaps (25%) he’s played in his NFL career. Part of this is where Ogbah fits. The Dolphins last season had Zach Sieler and Christian Wilkins, and I feel defensive end is where Ogbah fits best, not at OLB.
The Dolphins have already signed veteran Calais Campbell to play on the D-line. so I’m not so sure signing Ogbah is in the cards. Not to say he couldn’t be an upgrade over whomever it will be at DE opposite Sieler that will be getting the majority of snaps, but if we’re doing a true rotation, is that something Ogbah wants to be a part of? We’ll find out more after Monday’s workout/discussion.
The Dolphins do have rookies Chop Robinson and Mo Kamara ready to step in for Chubb and Phillips when necessary, and potentially Cam Goode when he’s healthy. Goode was injured in the final regular season game against Buffalo during the pivotal 96 yard punt return in the season finale. I’ll be watching with some interest if they sign Ogbah, and curious to see how they use him if they decide to reunite. Ogbah played mostly on the D-line last season and managed to still somehow churn out 5.5 sacks in only 246 snaps. Ogbah’s first season in Miami (2020), Ogbah played nearly 800 snaps (793). That season, and the next as well, Ogbah managed 9.0 sacks each season. To be clear, he accomplished 9 sacks in each of his first 2 seasons playing DE, RDE in 2020, and then LDE in 2021. I think he’s better in hand to hand combat at end rather than speed rushing which is more common off the edge.

I am so grateful this morning. My boss of 25 years has Parkinson’s and has been going through liver failure for the past 6 months. He has been progressively getting worse, to the point he started saying his “Good byes” because it was so unlikely that he would make it up the list to get a transplant. He got the call 3am Sunday morning and had the procedure done yesterday morning. He’s not out of the woods yet, and will need to be very careful for the rest of his life, and take fists full of anti-rejection and other medicine, but now he’s got a shot!

Can’t lie, I was really expecting to see either Ogbah or Ngakoue signed today. It’s all good though, as I’m sure we’ll land one of them. Both are quality, but my fave is Ogbah.
Ogbah really won me over after seeing him on “Hard Knocks” last season. He’s a leader, a very cool cat, and his production per snap is still very, very good.
It’s worth noting that according to PFF, Yannick Ngakoue has only ever played on the D-Line… never as an OLB, dating back to his rookie season with the Jags.
I highly doubt we sign him to play on our D-Line, being he’s sub-250 pounds.
That doesn’t preclude us from signing him to be an OLB, but there’s going to be a transition period for him to get acclimated to a foreign position should we do this.
My best guess is that he sucks in coverage. Otherwise, I see no reason why he’s never played OLB in his pro career.
If that’s the case (as I suspect), if we sign him to be an OLB, he’ll strictly be a pass-rush specialist on late downs and distances. Better not pay him much $$$.

It’s anybody’s guess right now for sure. A 3 safety look is pretty much a “keep it in front of us” scheme which usually means less pressure up front and long drives. Also, we have absolute zero proven talent on the DL….at least to begin the season….the sort of talent that can make big plays consistently. Seiler is a good player, but he’s not that. The rookies might shine, but they may also struggle. I like the overall talent in our defensive backfield IF the older FAs work out. I’m gonna have to see it from our linebacking corp before I believe it. Lots of questions about how they come together. It’ll be fun watching!
I think Sieler is underrated. He’s very active as a run stopper and pass rusher. A few of the other guys we brought in do have some body of work but not a lot so I do agree there is still some uncertainty.
At LB I like the Brooks signing. He has good range and is a good tackler. Long proved to be stout against the run. Walker has been around awhile and has been a solid player.
The DBs have a good blend of youth and vets. We’ve got some good talent and depth there.
The edge is our major concern until we know the rooks can get it done until Phillips and Chubb are ready to go.
Both our ISLB are rated very poorly in coverage, but rated pretty well against the run so, killed by tight ends and running backs over the middle again and again and again?

It’s not easy for LBs to cover these days. There aren’t many really good coverage LBs from what I see. TEs are more athletic these days and it’s always been tough for LBs to cover RBs.
That being said we’re going to be in nickel more often than not so maybe only one or two LBs will be on the field in those situations. LBs have to be good against the run or what’s the point. They’re supposed to be the tacklers.

I was an order writer for Navy Corpsmen. He was stationed in Camp Lejeune. He wanted to get orders so he and his wife could be closer to home in Portland, Oregon. I was going to send him to Bremerton, Washington. It was the end of the fiscal year and we were tight on money for cross country moves for members with families. I had to extend him into the next fiscal year which made him have to do another deployment to Iraq (his 3rd time going there). I was going to write his orders to transfer a month after he got back. He was killed by an IED instead. He also had just got selected for advancement to Petty Officer Third Class.

Fishing sucked again yesterday. No snapper. Hit 6 different reefs and caught about 20 ruby red lips. Used a couple of them for bait but only caught a barracuda free lining it.
But hey, I didn’t get sharked once. lol
Going to give it one more shot before the season closes next week, 30 miles out where the reefs have gotten less pressure.

Heck yeah I cook them. Have until 31 July for the big Red Snapper then the season closes. There will be some weeks where it will open back up for Friday through Sunday’s only but that is when I work. I mainly focus on inshore fishing the rest of the year.
One of my favorite ways to cook big Red Snapper is to fillet them with the scales on then cut cross sections on the meat side and throw it on the grill scale side down of course. Then I baste it with a mixture of melted butter, garlic, green onion and a little Old Bay or Tony Chachere’s. Sometimes I will make some mango salsa to go with it.
We had 1 day to catch red snapper on the east coast of FL, lots of boats were coming back with limits
That’s how the first month of the season was here. Of course, not hard to limit out in the gulf when the limit is 2.
I went out last Wednesday, barely anyone caught anything
I had an under slot Cobia on, but it was right in front of me with slack line, just before I pulled my line out of the water
That’s my plan next week weather permitting. Head out 30 miles. Get my 2 red snapper and maybe some mingo’s. Then I’m going to troll for wahoo while looking for some sargassum lines to try for little dolphin and hopefully a cobia.
Easier said then done. I could end up burn $70-80 in gas for nothing. lol
