Dolphins sign QB Tua Tagovailoa to a 4 year extension

The time has finally arrived. Some Dolphins fans are thrilled, others still want to see the particulars, including opt out clauses and injury provisions, but the deal is a 4 year extension in addition to the $23.1M he will get paid for this season. The only other details is that $167M of that 212.4M is fully guaranteed. One thing that is sure now though, is we know who our QB is going forward beyond this season. I’m not going to rain on Tua’s parade today by casting aspersions on the young man, but you all here know I have my doubts. I will put those aside and hope that the confidence this organization has shown in him will bring out his best. After all, all I want is for this team, including its QB to be the best!

We heard last season the Bills took a step or two back, and I feel as long as Josh Allen is their QB, I don’t buy it! Besides the Bills supposedly taking a step or two backwards, we were gifted an entire season without Jets QB A-Aron Rodgers. You can’t count on that happening this year, so the competition for the division will be considerably more difficult. Playing the Jets this season likely won’t be the cakewalk it was last season with that inept offense ran by QB Zach Wilson, or QB Trevor Siemian. THe Jets defense also has improved, so our division perhaps with the exception of the New England Patriots will be tougher.

There will be a few cold weather tests as well this season, the first one could potentially be @ Buffalo, Sunday, November 3rd. The next very likely cold weather game will be Thanksgiving, and if it’s not cold enough going to play in Wisconsin on November 28th, we play the late game at 8:20PM! Our next cold weather appearance will be in Cleveland to face the Browns on Sunday Night Football, again, 8:20PM, December 29th. Practically a guarantee for some frigid weather. The very next week, for the season finale, which we have been oh so dreadful in, will be at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and the game day and time have yet to be determined, but it should be yet another cold weather game. We’ll find out if those games will haunt us or our QB forever, or maybe this is the year, with big contract in hand, that Tua and our team finally get past that hurdle. We can only hope!

I read an article and one of the points it brought up made me laugh about the arguments we have on here. While we were having discussion after discussion about the value of pressures and the impact of pressures, the team was setting a franchise record of number of sacks in a season.

I played a lot of sandlot football up at Lincoln Park when I was a kid. Full on tackle (no pads) and some games were grunge games with the local big mouths and rivals but occasionally a couple girls would come by and want to play so we’d let them. After we started playing 2 hand touch. Not that they wouldn’t have held their own because they would have but a group 8-14 boys depending on the day all KNEW instinctively (10-14 years old) that we weren’t playing tackle football with girls.
I broke a kids nose/face one time it wasn’t for girls no way. Two hand touch and they smoked us all lol.

Miami HeraldDolphins practice report: Who impressed, who didn’t and notes from Thursday’s sessionbarry jackson, omar kellyThu, Aug 1, 2024, 11:40 AM CDT·6 min readNews, notes and observations from Thursday’s Dolphins training camp practice:▪

This was the Tua Tagovailoa/Tyreek Hill show, as is often the case during regular season games. They connected on at least six completions during 11 on 11 drills, on a day that new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver experimented with different blitzes. Only one went for a long gain. The defense wasn’t totally helpless to stop them; Miami’s defenders had a couple of nice plays before or during Tagovialoa targets to Hill.

Benito Jones and Zach Sieler appeared to sack Tagovailoa on one play, but Tagovailoa threw anyway and delivered a perfect 40-yard throw to Hill, who beat Kader Kohou for the long completion.

On another play, there appeared to be miscommunication between Tagovailoa and Hill and the ball fell incomplete.

On another play, Kohou knocked away an 8-yard pass to Hill during 11 on 11 drills.

Then Quinton Bell and Zach Sieler limited Hill to a four-yard gain on another play.

And Jordyn Brooks broke up a Tagovailoa throw to Hill in red zone drills.

So while many Tagovailoa to Hill completions had solid gains, there were a couple where the defense asserted itself.

This was overall a good day for the Dolphins’ $212 million quarterback. Tagovailoa beat Ethan Bonner for a nifty 10-yard sideline completion to Jaylen Waddle. He also hit Julian Hill on a 34-yard TD throw in what appeared to be a busted coverage; Kendall Lamm had good protection on the play against Quinton Bell.

Late in practice, Tagovailoa hit Waddle in the back of the end zone; Ethan Bonner was beaten on the play. But Quinton Bell might have had a sack on the play.

Tagovailoa then hit De’Von Achane for another TD later in red zone drills; nobody was close to the Dolphins running back. And Tagovailoa hit Ja’Quan Burton for another TD in red zone drills.

Tagovailoa targeted Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey three times in the final minute of practice and connected on two of them, including one for a long Waddle touchdown.

Here’s how those three plays went: Ramsey prevented a completion from Tagovailoa to River Cracraft during the final 30 seconds of practice. But then Tagovailoa nailed a terrific throw to Cracraft, who beat Ramsey on the crossing pattern.

And then Tagovailoa hit Waddle on a splendid 43-yard pass in the final 10 seconds of practice, beating Ramsey.

One more note on the Dolphins’ QB: Tagovailoa, who lost weight, should theoretically be better on quarterback scrambles this year. He ran up the middle for a first down on a 3rd and 5.

    ▪ Quick observation of receiver Willie Snead Jr., who signed on Wednesday: He doesn’t seem as explosive or move as well as earlier in career. Mike White completed a 10-yard pass to him in one sequence.

    ▪ Several Dolphins weren’t seen at practice: running back Salvon Ahmed, cornerback Cam Smith, linebacker Anthony Walker, safety Jordan Poyer, receiver Erik Ezukanma, tight end Jonnu Smith and defensive lineman Neville Gallimore.

Smith has a lower body injury and is expected back at some point in August, per Mike McDaniel. Smith has been alternating practice days.

Terron Armstead was limited to individual drills; he was sprinting on the far field while players practiced on the other field.

▪De’Von Achane wore the orange jersey awarded to the player who stood out most from the previous practice session.

    ▪ Bonner had a tough day after a strong first week of camp.

    ▪ Former Bills cornerback Siran Neal intercepted a Skylar Thompson pass to Malik Washington in 1 on 1 drills.

    ▪ Also in 1 on 1s, Hill beat Jalen Ramsey for a touchdown on a throw from Tagovailoa. But Ramsey also punched the ball away from Hill in another sequence, preventing a touchdown.

    ▪ Jaelan Phillips is running full speed in his rehab work. Bradley Chubb has been watching practice but hasn’t been spotted doing any running, at least not during the time when reporters can watch.

    ▪ Wisconsin rookie cornerback Jason Maitre continues to have some good moments. He tackled River Cracraft short of the end zone on a Skylar Thompson throw in red zone drills.

    ▪ In 11 on 11 drills, Raheem Mostert turned the corner on a long run. His snaps are being monitored in camp

    ▪ Emmanuel Ogbah snuffed out a Waddle run on an end-around for a short gain. Ogbah continues to perform very well in camp.

    ▪ Rookie fifth-round pick Washington couldn’t hold onto a low pass from Thompson.

  24. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    ▪ Teair Tart snuffed out a Jaylen Wright run for a short gain. Tart and Benito Jones remain in competition for the starting nose tackle job; that battle remains too close to call.

    ▪ A 15-yard bullet from Tagovalioa to Tyreek Hill was nullified by an illegal shift.

    ▪ Achane burst up the middle for a sizable gain. Rob Jones and Kendall Lamm had solid blocks on the play.

    ▪ While some other veterans sit out practice as part of a team-authorized maintenance program, Ramsey has participated consistently in 11 on 11 drills and runs to plays even away from him.

    ▪ Chris Brooks had a nice inside zone run. He’s had a generally quiet camp.

    ▪ Jevon Holland sacked Tagovailoa on a blitz, but there was a holding penalty on the defense.

    ▪ False starts were a problem on Thursday; Lamm had one of them. Weaver experimented with several blitz packages, which caused some of the issues with false starts.

    ▪ Mo Kamara sacked Mike White during 11 on 11 work. The rookie pass rusher continues to flash.

    ▪ Nik Needham broke up a White pass to Washington, who hasn’t distinguished himself so far.

    ▪ Curtis Bolton tackled Wright close to the line of scrimmage for a short gain on a run. Bolton has flashed since joining the team last week.

    ▪ Thompson’s accuracy remains hit and miss. He was way off on a sideline throw to Achane but also delivered several nice throws, including a sideline pattern to River Cracraft.

  25. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    ▪ Jason Sanders connected on three field goals from 28 to 43 yards. But Ramsey nearly blocked one of them.

    ▪ Jeff Wilson Jr., who limped off Tuesday, was back at practice. Jonathan Harris limited him to no gain on one 3rd down run.

    ▪ Da’Shawn Hand and Chop Robinson shared a sack on Thompson, who couldn’t find an open receiver. Robinson continues to flash as a pass rusher but must show he’s trustworthy setting the edge in the run game.

    ▪ Jody Fortson Jr., the former Chiefs tight end, dropped a pass. Fortson hasn’t had a particularly strong start to camp.

    ▪ Quinton Bell beat Lamm for a sack. Bell, who had the clear edge in his matchup with Lamm on Thursday, continues to make a case for a significant role in September.

    ▪ Achane committed a holding penalty.

    ▪ On a throw from Mike White, River Cracraft caught a pass that initially bounced off his chest. Cracraft’s hands remain a reliable asset.

    ▪ Rob Jones and Lamm had a nice block on a sizable run by Raheem Mostert. Jones has had a very good camp in his bid for a starting job at guard.

    ▪ Mike White misfired on a pass to Tanner Conner in red zone drills.

    ▪ Duke Riley tackled Wilson for a loss on a running play in red zone drills.

From USA Today: Let’s just slow down when debating boxers’ eligibility by Dan Wolken

“…..So when you put all this entire fact pattern together, there are far too many unanswered questions and obvious agendas here for the American political right wing to send this train down the tracks of good faith.

The Olympics are not halfway over. Khalif is going to fight again, and there will be lots of eyeballs on her, more questions asked and hopefully some actual answers uncovered.

In the meantime, though, we can all agree that men should not be fighting women in the boxing ring at an Olympics. But we don’t know that’s what this is.

    So let’s just slow down.”

  27. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I guess what it comes down to is this. Science. If a human contains “x” and “y” chromosomes, that human is a male. Truth is, we don’t know anything about the IOC and what their standards are, but this one should be an easy one, no? It might have zero to do with wokeness, but we have this issue right here in the good ole USA, and there is one party that supports this type of thing wholeheartedly, and another party that wants it to stop it altogether. So when people see this and connect the two, is it really wrong or far fetched to blame wokeness? I don’t think so, but that’s just me. Obviously the USA has no influence on allowing this man to fight, but the same people who allow it here in this country and encourage and support it probably aren’t the ones complaining about it, because that would be awfully hypocritical, wouldn’t it?

My thoughts on this boxing issue:

    1. Don’t really care about woman’s boxing. Haven’t watched it and unlikely to ever watch it.
    2. A boxer is complaining because she got her nose broke. That is an occupational hazard of the sport.
    3. There are weight categories so there should not be a significant difference in size or muscle mass
    4. Do I like the idea of a man fighting a woman but again I don’t really care either
    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

One fighter has much higher levels of testosterone, that’s a huge advantage. Enables more muscle mass and strength. I’m not touching the rest of your comment.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

But the weight categories should balance that out

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

How? It’s not just weight. There’s a reason why women don’t compete against men. Men are stronger. Even men and women that are the same weight. Think of this. This woman has trained her whole life, fought against many other female opponents. She gets in the ring and is hit harder than she’s ever been hit before, and she’s been fighting other women in the same weight class all along. Do you think she ‘s making it up when she says she’s never been hit that hard? You think she was willing to abandon her dream to make some kind of statement? I can’t believe that for a second.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I understand weight can be composed differently on different people. However trained athlete vs trained athlete in a restricted weight class is probably not going to have that much difference in muscle mass. Do I think she is making anything up? No I think she honestly believes everything thing she said. She got hit hard in the nose by a boxer. It is going to hurt I don’t care if it was a man, woman or kangaroo throwing the punch

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You would care if he/she was illegally taking anabolic steroids though, I’m almost sure of that. It’s the same advantage when it comes down to it. The athlete would still weigh the same, but there’s a strength advantage and possibly a speed and endurance advantage that shouldn’t exist. No matter whether you care or not, it’s just unfair, and the Olympics is supposed to be fair.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

If the Olympics were to be fair only amateur athletes would be allowed to participate not NBA and NHL players. Countries like the USA, Russia and China would not be allowed to invest millions upon millions of dollars into state of art training facilities that the vast majority of other countries around the world will never have
