The time has finally arrived. Some Dolphins fans are thrilled, others still want to see the particulars, including opt out clauses and injury provisions, but the deal is a 4 year extension in addition to the $23.1M he will get paid for this season. The only other details is that $167M of that 212.4M is fully guaranteed. One thing that is sure now though, is we know who our QB is going forward beyond this season. I’m not going to rain on Tua’s parade today by casting aspersions on the young man, but you all here know I have my doubts. I will put those aside and hope that the confidence this organization has shown in him will bring out his best. After all, all I want is for this team, including its QB to be the best!
We heard last season the Bills took a step or two back, and I feel as long as Josh Allen is their QB, I don’t buy it! Besides the Bills supposedly taking a step or two backwards, we were gifted an entire season without Jets QB A-Aron Rodgers. You can’t count on that happening this year, so the competition for the division will be considerably more difficult. Playing the Jets this season likely won’t be the cakewalk it was last season with that inept offense ran by QB Zach Wilson, or QB Trevor Siemian. THe Jets defense also has improved, so our division perhaps with the exception of the New England Patriots will be tougher.
There will be a few cold weather tests as well this season, the first one could potentially be @ Buffalo, Sunday, November 3rd. The next very likely cold weather game will be Thanksgiving, and if it’s not cold enough going to play in Wisconsin on November 28th, we play the late game at 8:20PM! Our next cold weather appearance will be in Cleveland to face the Browns on Sunday Night Football, again, 8:20PM, December 29th. Practically a guarantee for some frigid weather. The very next week, for the season finale, which we have been oh so dreadful in, will be at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and the game day and time have yet to be determined, but it should be yet another cold weather game. We’ll find out if those games will haunt us or our QB forever, or maybe this is the year, with big contract in hand, that Tua and our team finally get past that hurdle. We can only hope!
GO DOLPHINS!!!

Yeah π
Nice…thank you Mike E.!
And, hope is all anyone has…lol
Indeed!!
FinsUp! π
There was no way the organization that already said Tua is our QB moving forward publicly, was going to allow some holdout or weird situation to arise during training camp. Well done!
APY Tua 53.1, Goff 53.0
That .1mil must have been the clincher.
We can now just move on.
Until the end of the season. π
The contract won’t be discussed until 2 things happen. First thing is the details of the contract come out, the yearly breakdowns, etc. The other thing is if he plays poorly or gets injured, and then it will be constantly discussed.
As it would be for any other player
Right
Tua signed ………. bout fucking time front office ….smh
I love most of what our FO have done recently
but this one took a little longer than I would have liked
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
We signed Tua
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
letβs go!
π π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨π¨
now how much money do we have left to sign Holland and Phillips
gulp
They need to wait on Phillips to see how he rebounds from the Achilles injury, and to see if he can stay healthy. To extend him now would be a bit irresponsible.
2025 is down the road.
Good for Tua, he was getting paid no matter what (thanks for all of this NYG).
the best part of this contract is they only gave him $167m guaranteed. That pales in comparison to the guaranteed money some of the most recent QBs received. This was a really good job by the FO essentially giving us an out after 3-4 years if Tua canβt become the QB we all hope he will be.
Have no idea what you’re talking about
Lawrence 142m fully guaranteed, Burrow 146m, Goff 113m, Herbert 133m, Jackson 135m, Hurts 110m, Mahomes 63m
Tua 167m fully guaranteed, this contract blows, great for Tua
take it up with Spotrac- they have Lawrence at $200m fully guaranteed and Herbert at $218 fully guaranteed
Those numbers Spotrac has are guarantees, not fully guaranteed
I find it hard to believe Tua’s 167m is fully guaranteed, like it’s been reported
Wait what he’s still going to make 23.1m this year??
the deal is a 4 year extension in addition to the $23.1M he will get paid for this season.
I think so, the details aren’t out yet
Was referring to what I said yesterday
yes, these are all extensions Steve. Itβs on top of the current contracts.
But he will be paid his signing bonuses. Those will be pro rated for the life of the contract even though it is cash on hand now
I wonder if his brother cried when he was told π€
Jordan Love : 4 year extension for $220m with $155M in New guarantees. Mind you Love has only been a starter for one year. Like I said, our FO did well.
75mil signing bonus
I think it comes out to 55mil per year.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GTdOMLSbgAAy51V?format=jpg&name=small
TUA!!!!
So happy to have him signed. LFGoooo!!!
Have to see the breakdowns next.
Tua at today’s practice threw a 70-yard TD pass to Hill vs #1 defense.
Attaboy!
@AdamSchefter
The 2020 NFL Draft now has produced nearly $1.25 billion in quarterback contracts:
Joe Burrow: Five years, $275M
Tua Tagovailoa: Four years, $212.4M
Justin Herbert: Five years, $262.5M
Jordan Love: Four years, $220M
Jalen Hurts: Five years, $255M
lol, that is kind of mind blowing

I thought the reports I read yesterday said 167m fully guaranteed, but today I can only find Mike’s article above showing the 167m fully guaranteed
If true 167m guaranteed, with probably between 115m – 130m fully guaranteed, then job well done Grier and I take back everything I said about Tua and his contract
Iβm not really sure how to respond to this
I’ll watch a few Olympic events, but F those elites and their Mickey D athlete feeding, price gauging aholes

We’ll get the details on the Tua deal soon. For now, we’re told that Miami is committed to him for at least three years, as a practical matter.
2024 with the 23m cap plus 2 more seasons, so new money looks like 106m fully guaranteed, looking better and better, just need the on-field results now
Said it before, Chubb will be a cap casualty next year. There’s no restructuring him again. He will have to be a post 6/1 release or trade. Hope he comes back 100% and balls out. A team might take that trade at a cost of about 19mil per year. He will only be 29yo.
It will clear 20mil in cap in 2025.
Steve, I wonder if any of that “guaranteed” money is in the form of roster bonuses like Josh Allen’s contract. Allen got 150 million guaranteed but 80 million of that is in roster bonuses so it is not actually guaranteed unless he is on the roster.
They could have put something like that in Tua’s contract for injury insurance.
Based on ProFootballTalk’s post I pasted above, it likely has to
Saying we’re committed to him for 3 more years, which I think would be the min we would stick with him contract aside anyways, almost guarantees it
I want to see the cap hits per year, don’t expect one of those 75m cap hits in 2028
Ever go to a fancy steakhouse, drop a ton of money and leave thinking that was way overpriced for what you got?

I probably go to steakhouses about 4-5 times a year. So I donβt go that much. Everytime I go I spend like a teenage girl at the mall with her parents credit card
Wow! Just wow Pigπ€£
It seems like the consensus here is most people are happy about the Tua extension. I’m happy it’s over. I think he’s really going to have to step or, at least “should” step up and play well at the end of the season and in the playoffs. Take ownership that this is his team now, for better or worse.

(piggyβs shakes his squiggly)
I am not happy that they gave him $200 million because I donβt believe any quarterback is worth $50 million a year. Iβm just happy that itβs over and we can move on. Iβm looking forward to the season
I hate the process of buying a car. Iβm sitting here two hours now. Iβm like let me write a check. Give me the car. This is the car I want. Iβm OK with the price. Let me write you a check. They need to make a complicated and hard
Last time I went to buy a car we sat there for hours then stood up to walk out and they dropped the price by 3k at our demand.
I almost went car shopping today but changed my mind because its a nice day and didnβt want to waste it doing that. But its going to happen soon.
I almost did that again today I have called it off for weekends in a row. Itβs just such a fucking hassle why do you need to run my credit? Why canβt I write you a check? I donβt care if they frown on cash sales. Why? Because they make money on the financing as well. fuck you just sell me a car
if you’re doing a trade in don’t give them your keys
π€£π€£π€£π€£. I havenβt even signed the paperwork on the new car and they already have stickers for sale on my fucking trade-in
I wonder what kind of vehicle Tua will be buying?
I bet you heβs not buying anything. He already has it.
Probably a new home at some point.
BIG BALLS
That act of arrogance just cost them a couple grand.
Iβve decided to take the trade-in off the table. Itβs not part of the deal anymore. π
LOL
@flasportsbuzz
Mike Florio notes in here, among many other things, that Dolphins have only $3 M guaranteed to Tua after 2026.. So parties are essentially married for 3 years, though deal will carry through 2028 if it’s a happy marriage.
Don’t know where he is getting his info. AND it’s Florio.
I posted the same thing above from another outlet
one time the f’n dealership took my trade for a “test drive” and parked it somewhere out of my sight in the back lot and hung the keys on their for sale rack before we even got close to a deal on the new car.
Their offer was “tell us what you want your monthly payment to be at.”
Right. But you never tell them that because then they craft your purchase, trade in and interest rate around that.
Rock,
wait until youβre done and then you have to sit down with the extended warranty guy
or girl
^
Another reason Conner can beat out Fortson for the TE4 spot. Fortson can’t block that well. Plus, he has been training to play TE/HB and FB.
I heard Fortson does block well.
That’s good to hear. I thought I had heard different when we signed him.
Rock – Last time I bought a car, they had all the paperwork ready for signature by the time I got there. Of course, I had bought several cars from them and they already knew what I was buying (they called when it came in) and what I was trading as I had bought it from them a few months earlier. Walked in, signed the papers, wrote a check out in 30 minutes.

don’t need that 4th QB anymore now!
Go Tua!
Go Dolphins!
Yeah not enough reps to go around.
@OmarKelly
And Tua Tagovailoaβs new deal lowers his cap hit by $13.57M. Thatβs cap space that can be used or carried over to 2025.

??
Hereβs everything in the four-year extension, and five-year total contract:
1. Signing bonus: $42 million.
2. 2024 base salary: $1.125 million, fully guaranteed.
3. 2025 offseason roster bonus: $25 million, fully guaranteed.
4. 2025 offseason workout bonus: $250,000.
5. 2025 base salary: $25.046 million, fully guaranteed.
6. 2025 per-game active roster bonus: $750,000, total.
7. 2026 offseason workout bonus: $250,000.
8. 2026 base salary: $54 million, guaranteed for injury and fully guaranteed in 2025.
9. 2026 per-game active roster bonus: $750,000, total.
10. 2027 offseason workout bonus: $250,000.
11. 2027 offseason roster bonus: $5 million.
12. 2027 base salary: $31 million, $20 million of which is guaranteed for injury. In 2026, $3 million converts to a full guarantee. In 2027, the other $17 million vests.
13. 2027 per-game active roster bonus: $750,000, total.
14. 2028 offseason workout bonus: $250,000.
15. 2028 offseason roster bonus: $7 million.
16. 2028 base salary: $41.4 million.
17. 2028 per-game active roster bonus: $750,000, total.
Tua’s cap hit in 2025 and 2026 will be well over 50 million per year.
Bye Chubb. Bye Bye Holland, they can’t afford you next year. Maybe Phillips also.
Who needs a strong roster, Tua can win games himself like he did at the end d of the season and in the playoffs. Oh, wait . . .
The contract has $93.171 million fully guaranteed at signing, and a practical guarantee of $147.171 million, since another $54 million due in 2026 vests in 2025.
Itβs a three-year commitment to Tua, with only $3 million in guarantees that would linger into 2027, if the Dolphins decide to move on
Iβm really not concerned about the future. This team is good. Letβs enjoy the present. π
Not when you have to let good players go next year.
This year is all or nothing.
Weβll see how the revamped defense looks, but our offense is loaded with mismatch playmakers everywhere. We also have a QB to get them the ball. I think itβs going to be a fun season. π
It will be.
Tua’s cap hits 2024-2028
2024 – $9,525,000
2025 – $59,446,000
2026 – $63,400,000
2027 – $45,400,000
2028 – $57,800,000
Our cap in 2025 is $-72,243,843, way more over than what we started with this year.
Yeah, they will make it work as always when they have to let Holland and Phillips walk.
Chubb will be a cap casualty and maybe even Ramsey.
Glad Tua is signed but Grier really gave in.
He really didnβt have a choice. The market dictated the price and he designed the offseason strategy around signing Tua hence letting Wilkins and Hunt walk
I just don’t understand clearing the cap this year. Why clear 13+ million more this year? We had about 9.5 mil in cap to spend if needed this year after the Ogbah signing. Seems it would be much more needed next year. We will have to see how much they carry over.
You try to win while the iron is hot. So many years this team had good cap situations and no winning.
isnβt the carryover dollar for dollar
anything we cleared can be carried over to next year if we donβt spend it
if we are only married to Tua for 3 years thatβs great
if he doesnβt take the next step, we can draft a QB in the next couple of years and they can have time to develop while Tua steadies the ship
I have faith the Tua will keep getting better but even if he doesnβt,
itβs not a deaths sentence to our franchise
I donβt see any down side
itβs a lot of money
but itβs pretty consistent with the way the NFL works nowadays
Competent QBs in the NFL get paid. Itβs just the way it is.

Being we’re going all-in this year (again, and probably the last time we can for some time), perhaps we intend to use that nearly $24M in cap space this year to land another stud via blockbuster trade? I dunno.
Or maybe we’ll extend a player(s) mid-season if he/they are ballin’. Very curious…
The only good thing about the contract is they can easily get out of it with minimal impact after 2026 if for whatever reason. That is unless they restructure and move $ down the road like they did with other players to clear cap space next year which they will have to do.
Just finishing up my first week of retirement!!
Sure like watching the 11;15 PM sports report on either a local channel or ESPN!! – – And sleeping in until 7:00 AM, or a bit later, ain’t bad either!!
Read a few reviews of TUA’s big contract.
My reaction? — Tua will make us a legitimate playoff contender IF, I say “IF,” our offensive line stays healthy and can give him enough time to throw the occasional deep pass. Once, again, I’m skeptical, though, of our O-Line depth.
Miami’s O-Line still has to “show me.” Ross and his Front Office still have to prove to me that our roster has enough quality O-Line depth to keep us going when the inevitable O-Line injuries occur.
On another topic, I just started James Patterson’s recent effort titled “The #1 Lawyer.” Didn’t find any references to “YOUNG STANGER” or any of the other LEGAL EAGLES on this web site.
I’d be interested to know if any of you read this book.
They are banking money this year that they have not earned based upon recent history of huge cap increases every year. However, theyβre not planning on the oversaturation Thatβs why theyβre going to push for 18 games to justify The insane spending. The huge imbalance of top to bottom is crazy
And it goes through waves as better players become free agents at different positions year to year
Mr. Campbell,
CONGRATS on your retirement, man!!! I’m happy for ya!!!
A bird in hand…that’s why they lowered Tua’s cap this year, it’s there to use, if you need it during the season, but if you don’t do it you can’t borrow from next year after the season starts
I agree… unless we trade future draft capital to land a stud before the trade deadline this season. That would be borrowing from next year, just not monetarily.
And of course, we’d be paying said ‘traded for stud’ monetarily this year.
I doubt that happens, it’s more for injury purposes, based on history
Overthecap has 39m cap hit in 2025, Spotrac 59m
Tua’s contract is good for player and team, I expect it gets reworked twice, before it expires
Possibly.

Based on history, I absolutely concur with ya, man. However, I feel as though this is going to be the last chance Steve Ross gets to buy a winner. Maybe it’s just me, but I wouldn’t doubt us bringing in a stud via blockbuster trade before the $$$ train runs out of steam in ’25.
I hope I’m wrong, but I could see it.
I’ll watch a little more of the yankees at red sox game before hitting the sack.

9. 2026 per-game active roster bonus: $750,000, total.
10. 2027 offseason workout bonus: $250,000.

“The reported guarantee of $167 million is quite reasonable. And, according to Spotrac, Tua’s average percent of cap at sign is 20.8%, which is 11th among QBs. With the NFL salary cap going up, this is not a contract that should entirely prohibit the Miami Dolphins from maintaining a competitive roster.”

But even if both players were 100% healthy, Kohou would have to be seen as the frontrunner for the job. Heβs received an unspoken vote of confidence from new coordinator Anthony Weaver and the rest of theΒ Dolphin’s coaching staffΒ after a rough second season.
Kohou in 2023 regressed significantly from his rookie year in completion percentage allowed (59.1% to 81.9%), yards per target (6.1 to 7.7), touchdowns surrendered (3 to 8), and passer rating against (81.7 to 131).
On Sunday, he made no excuses for his play.
βI just got in my own way,β Kohou said. βIt would be easy to say it was the defense we were running or anything like that. But I donβt think that was the case. At the end of the day, whatever defense you call, you just have to go out there and execute.
βI feel like we started getting deeper into the season, I just started losing a little focus. I wasnβt really just focused on the details and stuff like that. So thatβs one thing Iβm gonna focus on this year.β
Kohou didnβt blame former DC Vic Fangioβs system for his poor play. And he pushed back on the idea that he was out of position last year when he played on the boundary instead as a slot nickel.
βI feel like my rookie year, I played more boundary than I did nickel,β Kohou said. βSo I donβt think that was the case. Wherever he put me at, you just got to execute. So I donβt think Iβm more suitable to play either/or. I can play boundary and inside. Like I said, just going deeper into the season, I just kind of lost focus a little bit and then I started getting in my own way, focused on the wrong things.β

Quarterback Report
The Tua Tagovailoa contract extension officially closed the book on Tagovailoaβs training camp hold-in.
He took all of his scheduled 11-on-11 snaps Sunday. Tagovailoa continues to look sharp in practice, although on Sunday he did throw his first interception in a full team rep. Jevon Holland picked off a pass deflected at the line by defensive tackle Zach Sieler.
Tagaovailoaβs best play Sunday? A touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle, showing encouraging mobility by stepping up in the pocket.
The Dolphins are down to three quarterbacks after cutting rookie Gavin Hardison. Tuaβs backups β Mike White and Skylar Thompson β have been up and down in camp.
But Whiteβs interception Sunday wasnβt his fault. JeβQuan Burton dropped a sure catch, allowing Isaiah Mack to pick it off.
White did deliver a beautiful touchdown pass to tight end Tanner Conner in red-zone work. The Dolphinsβ secondary had a pretty obvious busted coverage that resulted in Conner being wide open.
Injury Report
The Dolphins on Sunday activated linebacker David Long Jr. off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Longβs participation in his first practice of camp was limited to individual drills.
Smithβs curious early exit aside, the Dolphins had a healthy first week of training camp. Holland had a scare when he landed hard after getting upended on Day 1, but was back on the field the next day.
Two Dolphins veterans got the day off Sunday: Tackle Terron Armstead and wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Meanwhile, five Miami players remain on PUP: Linebackers Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, and Cameron Goode; wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.; and guard Isaiah Wynn.
McDaniel said that βthereβs been no setbacksβ for Phillips and Chubb, who are still recovering from major injuries that ended their 2023 seasons.
Lastly from Adam Beasley, PFN:
Stock Up
Waddle has been the Dolphinsβ best player in camp, and that continued Sunday when he shook Jalen Ramsey out of his shoes for a touchdown in 1-on-1s.
Running back Jeff Wilson Jr. had another good day Sunday after being the best Dolphins player in Fridayβs practice. Wilson, who is competing with Jaylen Wright, Salvon Ahmed, and Chris Brooks for the RB3 job, continues to run with power and purpose.
Stock Down
Rookie tackle Patrick Paul had his hands full with Chop Robinson in team drills. Robinson was consistently in the backfield after getting past his fellow 2024 NFL Draft classmate.
Ramsey has had back-to-back rough practices. He gave up a bomb to Hill on Friday and then struggled to hang with Waddle for much of Sunday. One of the rare times Waddle didnβt pull in a pass thrown his way Sunday came on a pretty blatant defensive pass interference by Ramsey.

Iβd trade (all the stats) for a championship. – Tua Tagovailoa
Good to hear! I would too
Piggy – I want my arrow back! I ate one piece of bacon this morning but there’s a lot more where that came from!
BOTH my wife and I looked at each other and said “The Olympic highlights show is putting us to sleep!! – – HOW BORING!!” Can’t ever remember being this bored with the summer games. However, I’ve always been a Winter Olympics kind of guy.
Maybe the summer games will get more interesting tomorrow. But the over abundance of commercials combined with unenthusiastic coverage has made us bored to tears. So it looks like more time on this Dolphins blog for the next several days.
DID I READ correctly that rookie tackle Patrick Paul has had a tough time of it in the early going? We DON’T need any more flops with our young O-Linemen, do we? Howse about taking TWO O-Linemen in the first 3 rounds next time??
PS: I see that Mr. Armstead is already taking days off!! Will he even make it to 12 of the 17 regular season games this season??
are you just trying to be funny?
for the rest of us we know he gets vet rest days
So the IOC is trying to walk back their Opening Ceremony in Paris… to the tune of even blocking videos of their Opening Ceremony: unprecedented. No, no, no… there was nothing offensive about it, right?!! LOL π
Tell us you’re guilty without telling us you’re guilty.
Mr. Spikes; This entire Olympic effort needs a rewind or a restart. And leave it to the snooty French to bristle at ANY CRITICISM WHATSOEVER!!
It’s been 100years since France hosted the Summer Games. Let’s hope it’s another 100 years before they host another one!!
Maybe a fresh cup of American coffee is in order??
I agree, my man!!!
Israel isn’t permitted to display yellow ribbons at the Olympics, in a show of support of bringing their kidnapped home from the deadly Hamas attacks on 10/7/24, yet Muslim athletes are permitted to display sewn images of Israel bombing Muslim countries.
Then Hezbollah bombs a dozen little children playing soccer in northern Israel shortly after the Opening Ceremonies, and today Turkey threatens Israel.
We’re all old enough to remember when the Olympics echoed PEACE between nations.
I’m boycotting the Olympics this year… mutha FUCK ’em. π‘
The actual WAR part of WW3 is about to break out. Venezuela is a hot mess today with their elections, as Maduro has called the military to shut down their elections.
You can vote your way into communism, but you can’t shoot your way out of communism.
what Olympic games
MRS. OD heading for sleepsville before 9 O’Clock!!
She said ABC’s Jim McKay must be rolling over in his grave!!
Mr. Campbell,
I tried my very best to get us to sign either OG/C Cooper Beebe (his father follows me on Twitter/X) or OG/C Christian Hayes. Both went in the 3rd round, but guess what? WE DIDN’T HAVE a 3rd round pick, thanks to Stevie ‘Blunder’ Ross messing with (Tom) Lady and the Vamp (Sean Payton)!!! Not to mention, we didn’t have a 1st rounder last year due to Ross’ ineptness!
Man, I wish we could have landed either of these above mentioned players. We would have had a very formidable O-Line this season, IMO.
Mr. Campbell,
In all honesty, I think we’re going to have a really good season this year. My biggest issue? The injury bugs.
Spray for the injury bug!
ESPECIALLY on the O-Line!!!
WELL, the boring Olympic coverage is sending me to Sleepsville before 10:00 PM!
Won’t need any “Sleeping Aid,” either!
Bring on Football Season!!!
Mr. Spikes, Hope YOU are right regarding our O-Line. But 24 straight years of playoff futility is NOT going to be overlooked!!

Nice article on Malik Washington to get your koolaid pumping.
USA today predictions calling for Miami to be third in the division at 8-9 with the Jets winning 12 games and winning the Superbowl. FUCK THEM.
