Dolphins sign QB Tua Tagovailoa to a 4 year extension

The time has finally arrived. Some Dolphins fans are thrilled, others still want to see the particulars, including opt out clauses and injury provisions, but the deal is a 4 year extension in addition to the $23.1M he will get paid for this season. The only other details is that $167M of that 212.4M is fully guaranteed. One thing that is sure now though, is we know who our QB is going forward beyond this season. I’m not going to rain on Tua’s parade today by casting aspersions on the young man, but you all here know I have my doubts. I will put those aside and hope that the confidence this organization has shown in him will bring out his best. After all, all I want is for this team, including its QB to be the best!

We heard last season the Bills took a step or two back, and I feel as long as Josh Allen is their QB, I don’t buy it! Besides the Bills supposedly taking a step or two backwards, we were gifted an entire season without Jets QB A-Aron Rodgers. You can’t count on that happening this year, so the competition for the division will be considerably more difficult. Playing the Jets this season likely won’t be the cakewalk it was last season with that inept offense ran by QB Zach Wilson, or QB Trevor Siemian. THe Jets defense also has improved, so our division perhaps with the exception of the New England Patriots will be tougher.

There will be a few cold weather tests as well this season, the first one could potentially be @ Buffalo, Sunday, November 3rd. The next very likely cold weather game will be Thanksgiving, and if it’s not cold enough going to play in Wisconsin on November 28th, we play the late game at 8:20PM! Our next cold weather appearance will be in Cleveland to face the Browns on Sunday Night Football, again, 8:20PM, December 29th. Practically a guarantee for some frigid weather. The very next week, for the season finale, which we have been oh so dreadful in, will be at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and the game day and time have yet to be determined, but it should be yet another cold weather game. We’ll find out if those games will haunt us or our QB forever, or maybe this is the year, with big contract in hand, that Tua and our team finally get past that hurdle. We can only hope!

I think today is the first time the pads go on at Miami’s practice. We will get to hear some comments on the O and D lines and running game now. LET’S GO MIAMI!

Pads come on today at practice:

    @OmarKelly

The #Dolphins O-line is excited about the introduction of pads, which come at Monday’s practice. First day of pads is my FAVORITE practice day because that’s when trench play comes alive. Kendall Lamm says “watch us tomorrow.” The big payback.

I don’t know what is the deal with the national perception of the jests

they were 7-10 each of the last 2 years

It’s not like they just missed the playoffs

they actually haven’t had a winning season since 2015

I guess you know it’s August when

Jaylen Waddle said that he, Tyreek Hill and Mike McDaniel have had conversations about doing some KOR with the new rules, but it sounds like Braxton Berrios has the job pretty much wrapped up.

“Tempo thing now. He understands when to pull the trigger and when he pulls it now he doesn’t miss,” Dolphins TE Durham Smythe said about Julian Hill, whom he claims is the strongest tight end in the NFL.

  8. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    @schadjoe

Dolphins’ Durham Smythe says TE Julian Hill is the most physical player he has EVER played with. And he says young TE Tanner Conner has grown from the WR role into a more complete player.

Julian Hill was a good blocker last year.

  16. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I am just wondering, how many hours of the 24 hour news cycle do you guys usually consume per day? I have a feeling that way too many people keep it on in the background, or worse, sit and focus on it all day.

Back in the day you had the 7am news, the noon update, the 5pm local news, the 6pm national news and the 10pm nightly. You might catch and hour throughout the day. I think people invite these talking heads into their thoughts way too much today. Most of it isn’t even news anymore.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Well, I know you hate Trump, but he was the first politician to bring out the real bias in the mainstream media news. He brought to light just how biased our news delivery is, and he’s not wrong.

  17. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It’s funny how the Media Monkeys have all been trained to call the Trump/Vance ticket “weird”. Apparently, it doesn’t matter how often you watch the news if every time you turn on one of the mainstream channels they’re there to tell you how weird the Republicans are, including Trump/Vance. Seems fair, doesn’t it?

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

It is a democratic talking point that they hope the media picks up on. Trump and the Republicans do it just as much with their names and catch phrases they use such as Sleepy Joe. Don’t know why the other side does it. It’s pretty much politics as usual

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Then again couch fucking and dolphin porn are kind of weird

  18. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    @OmarKelly

“You learn so much about players based upon how other players react. When he gets an edge of a lineman and is creating a hurry, pressure or sack, or he’s long arming or setting the edge people lose their minds,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel on Quinton Bell… “He comes to work with no excuses. Doesn’t tally how many reps he gets. He just makes the most of what he has….I’m excited about the football he has in store for us.”

  19. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    @AdamHBeasley

Dolphins will continue to take it cautiously with Terron Armstead, who plans on practicing today. McDaniel gave an interesting answer about his injury bad luck which I’ll post in a bit.

  20. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ken – Seriously – Are you fucking kidding me? Show me one news anchor on a major news channel calling Biden Sleepy Joe. I just watched a video of approximately 30 different major news outlets, from CBS, NBC, ABC all over our country calling either Trump or Vance or both, or just the party either “weird” or “plain weird”. You think that’s the same as us guys here calling Biden Sleepy Joe? Please tell me you don’t mean that

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

It’s pretty much the same tactic. Both sides do it

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Sleepy Joe was just one example. There are many more including many on substantive issues where they keep repeating wrong information that keeps getting disseminated. Both sides do it and it is nothing new.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

OK, you’re in denial. No reason to discuss this any further

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

        Really? Ok 🙄

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It seems as if your own party decided Joe was too sleepy to go 4 more years, and clearly is too sleepy to run the country now as well, but . . .

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

That was one example. The practice is widespread and not unique to US politics. It has been around for decades. Both parties do it. They have designated talking points that they distribute to their operatives with the hope that those talking points and buzz words get picked up by the media, social media and popular culture. I am sorry you don’t see that but I am not in denial on this issue

  21. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

The practice ended with the offense stuffed on a third-and-1 run, a fitting for a bad day for the offense.

  22. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

why do all these maroons in the media keep saying the deal we gave Tua is bad, when his fully guaranteed money is under 100m, and we get out of the deal in 3 years

There’s no way, barring a career ending injury, we let him go before 3 years, so they had to pay him, but got the protection they needed

  23. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You don’t have to have the news on 24/7 to hear or know about the buzz words of the day. The fact that everyone knows about it shows you how often they’re using the word “weird” without even saying what that means.

  24. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ken – I think the difference between Democrat talking points and Republican talking points is this, and I’m pretty sure you’re well aware of this. There might be 2 or 3 news outlets such as FoxNews, News Nation and Newsmax that will carry the Republican points. Every other cable news outlet including the major networks like CBS, NBC, ABC all parrot the Democrat points. That’s an absurd ratio, like 10,000,000:3

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I don’t believe that is true. Phrases such as Crooked Hillary, Low Energy Jeb, Little Marco, Ron Desactimonius and others were very prevalent, discussed at length and repeated by operatives on many news outlets. This is one aspect of campaigning that Trump understands and utilizes better than most

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Trump says that stuff for sure but I don’t remember it being repeated by news outlets, but rather his supporters on social media. That’s the difference Mike is taking about.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

He gets a lot of mileage from social media but often times his operatives repeat those phrases when they appear on news outlets. Also the news outlets cover the use of those phrases by Trump

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Ken is in denial, he wants us to believe the narrative being put out by the left goes thru equal channels as the narrative the right puts out

Just take the narrative on Kamala, the left says she’s not the border czar, the right says with video evidence she is, pretty sure most people while agree with the left

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

That’s exactly what we’re talking about Ken, the left having more media power than the right, glad you finally admitted it🤔

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I am still trying to figure out when I am in denial about but whatever. I am not the one who wants to believe my narrative and I made no comment about what Kamala did or didn’t do about the border. But this is what happens when one doesn’t have facts to refute an argument, they try to change the topic

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I didn’t change the subject it was an anology

You’re in denial, that the MSM has more power, than the rights media presence

I’ve been reading/seeing that our O-Line is doing very well in the running game… but that’s only half the battle, of course. Yes, I agree with ya that our O-Line’s pass-pro has me anxiety ridden as well, Rockphin.

  30. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ken – My point is, the average American TV viewer is going to be exposed to this tainted view just by simply turning the TV ON. In order to find an opposing view, one would have to seek it out from specific cable news shows. To me, that’s a very unfair thing. Social media is an entirely different animal, your timeline is affected by who your friends are and what you search.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Right now the democrats hit on a buzz word that is resonating across many different news outlets. But as pointed out above Trump and the republicans have done so plenty of times in the past. It is not as one sided as you believe. Yes the democrats have won this latest news cycle but it goes back and forth

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

The Dems have been using ‘buzz words’ through their 90% media since the late 90s. Somebody alerted the late, great Rush Limbaugh about as much… and then he was the first to put together clips showing as much.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

All political parties do this and not just in our country. It’s not just one party manipulating the media. All political parties attempt to manipulate the media and have done so for decades if not centuries

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

We likely will have to agree to disagree on this topic

  31. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ken – I think it’s fair to say that it’s more unbalanced now due to Trump being the candidate. If the Republicans ever find a more universally respected candidate, what you say might be true, but for now, it isn’t.

If you don’t realize that, you’re not paying attention. I don’t care what your politics are. That’s just reality.

  32. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

FUCK YES ten million to three is a “Bit exaggerated” But misleading hyperbole is all the rage and very popular among a certain set of voters.

There are ABC, NBC (which includes CNBC & MSNBC) , CBS, FOX (which includes FNC & FBN), OAN and Newsmax off the top of my head. that is 5 – 4. NOT 10 million to three.

And if you start looking at LOCAL affiliates they are mostly owned by conservative groups like Sinclair broadcasting and they script the narrative to every local station. Regardless if the affiliate is ABC, NBC, CBS, the LOCAL news is written and controlled by Sinclair. The only Biased news you get is the NATIONAL news at 6-7pm. From Joe Schad:

    – Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips is playing catch with children at Miami Dolphins training camp
    – DB Elijah Campbell, a special teams demon, has the orange jersey for player of the last Miami Dolphins practice
    – Among the players who did not appear to be practicing: CB Cam Smith, RB Raheem Mostert, WR Erik Ezukanma, LB Anthony Walker, RB Salvon Ahmed and LB David Long.
    – Among the players who did appear to be practicing: LT Terron Armstead. The veteran left tackle didn’t do much. This is all about trying to get Armstead through the 2024 season.
    – Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is here.
    – Braxton Berrios has looked good in recent practices. If OBJ is hurt or hurting, Berrios’ role as a receiver may not necessarily be reduced. Berrios caught a red zone touchdown from Tua near the end of practice.
    – Kyric McGowan had a nice sideline grab on a pass from Mike White.
    – Elijah Campbell has Rage Against the Machine on his practice play list. Respect.
    – Skylar Thompson tried to hit Tyreek Hill deep but Ethan Bonner was involved in successful coverage.
    – Jaylen Waddle made nice diving catch over the middle from Tua.
    – Pass rusher Zeke Vandenburgh is a sleeper to watch out here.
    – Tua and Aaron Brewer had another mis-snap. Worth watching.
    – Tua could not connect with Tyreek on a deep ball.
    – Emmanuel Ogbah had a sack.
    – De’Von Achane and Channing Tindall had a physical collision.
    – Jonnu Smith had a drop. Then he had what may be considered another drop.
    – This is not a good start to the offense for Miami’s offense.
    – Kader Kohou had two pass breakups.
    – De’Von Achane scored a red zone rushing touchdown up the middle.
    – Chop Robinson is improving as a rookie edge rusher.
    – Tua spun away, rolled to his right and hit Tyreek on the run. This man is nimble, folks.
    – Kader Kohou was involved in the first dustup at Dolphins training camp. It looked like Jaylen Wright may have been involved, too.
    – Running back Jeff Wilson left the field with a limp.

  41. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

This could explain one of his 2 drops today:

    @WingfieldNFL

Tua fires a no look to Jonnu up the seam but he can’t hang on. I think the throw surprised him because the back was wide open on the swing and Tua was pretty convincing that’s where the throw was going

  46. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I am going on record right now that I will probably be disappointed in Achane’s season. LOL after a year of playing him in Madden and literally rewriting all the records and getting league MVP in the 10 or so times I have played the season through. Nothing he will be allowed to do in real life will come close. LOL

    I got 2340 yards, 26 TD’s and 6 rec TD’s and 12.4 yards per carry

It is almost as much fun running with Achane as it was with R. Williams back in the day. (almost, once Achane get’s the edge, he is gone. Williams play on madden had 10x more wiggle

Achane, OBJ and Jonnu are going to open things up. Mostert will do his thing, we’ll see how ready Wright is, Tyreek and Waddle are always going to be the focus of opposing defenses. You mess up there it’s 7.

  56. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We also need to be much better in short yardage situations. I also hope we run more physical this year. Last year we got huge chunks of yardage but whenever we needed a yard or two we struggled

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Sometimes but we converted there too. We came up short in some big games. They know that. But we also made plays in every situation. The goal is to get better. Tua said a big goal of the team is in tough road games.

  57. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’ve heard about Brewer’s bad snaps, haven’t heard if it was a shotgun snap

    Anyone know?

Not concerned about Tua being under center for these bad snaps at this stage, only the shotgun ones

  58. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

A center can short arm a snap with QB under center or pullout too quick, making it his fault, otherwise it’s on the QB

Timing being off is likely the case here, if it’s QB under center, which is easy to fix

  59. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

2025 offseason Tua will need to read a D like a master, once that’s taken care of he’ll be worth his 53.1m

With the additions of OBJ and Jonnu, plus Achane staying healthy could speed up his learning curve on reading a D or at least make it look that way

I’ve seen multiple film study videos of Tua forcing the ball to Reek and Waddle, when other receivers were wide open

A strength of Tua’s at Bama was ready a D, NFL is a different animal though

Little-known Dolphins LB emerging as biggest ‘camp surprise’ this summer

Fans are going to want to remember this name moving forward.

It happens every single summer. The Miami Dolphins get going at training camp and while plenty of attention goes to the star players, of course including Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa, an under-the-radar guy makes a name for himself seemingly out of nowhere.

Such has been the case with young linebacker Quinton Bell. The 6-4, 250-pounder first entered the league in 2020, only posting nine appearances since then. He’s been more of a practice squad player. However, due to injuries up front for the Miami defense, the pass-rusher is getting extended work – and he’s taking full advantage of his reps.

Pass-rusher Quinton Bell is making a name for himself at Dolphins training camp

The Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly has gotten a close-up look at Bell throughout training camp and he didn’t hesitate in saying the outside ‘backer has been the biggest camp surprise early on. That’s great to see, especially with the injuries Miami is still dealing with.

Both Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb are still recovering from their season-ending injuries in 2023. With both of them out for Week 1 and beyond, plenty of attention has gone to Chop Robinson. Fortunately, the first-round pick is living up to the hype. On top of that, Bell has emerged as someone who will be ready to help out Mike McDaniel if the third-year head coach calls his number.

“This feels amazing. I’m all about getting better and seizing my opportunities. Everyday I’m coming out here and continuing to improve on everything I can and continue to gain trust from the coaching staff. That’s my main goal – gaining trust with this coaching staff and showing them that I come out every day, I work hard and that you can trust me on Sundays.”

Bell certainly has the right mindset and he’s surely making strides in earning the staff’s trust. He’s still got a long road ahead to be an impact player for this team, but he’s also done quite a lot to try and earn a 53-man roster spot as well. We’ll see how he’s able to perform once the preseason arrives too.

Very cool, I love it when a player surprises in camp. Now let’s see if he can live up to it all the way to making the 53. That would be awesome!

Jalen Ramsey’s message to Dolphins teammates: It’s time to be bullies

    Adam Stites

    July 31, 2024 11:32 am ET

After a Miami Dolphins training camp practice Tuesday, the team was observed huddling around Jalen Ramsey for a lengthy speech. The seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback had a message for his teammates: no more getting pushed around.

“Jalen Ramsey just talked about it for about ten minutes after practice,” Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks told reporters. “I think there’s just a mentality. You have to have that mentality on defense, because we are reacting to what the offense wants to do which really makes it harder in my opinion, to play defense because they know exactly what they want to run already.

“If we can be the initiators, we can be the bullies, I think that makes you a dominant defense to where you’re proactive rather than reactive. … That was one of the biggest things: just being a bully on defense.”

The Dolphins finished the 2023 season No. 22 in points allowed despite finishing top 10 in yards allowed. Late in the year, Miami’s defense had some of its worst performances, allowing 964 yards in the last two regular season games and another 409 in the postseason.

While injuries played a significant role in that collapse, newly acquired safety Jordan Poyer admitted earlier this month that the Dolphins had a reputation as a team that would fold under pressure.

The defense wasn’t the only unit to take Ramsey’s words to heart Tuesday.

“We’re going to be a physical team,” Dolphins offensive lineman Robert Jones said. “Just like guys say, this year we’re going to be the bullies, and that’s what we’ve got to keep focusing on and that’s exactly what it did.

“We just want to be dogs. Go out there, play hard, we don’t care about the outside noise. We just want to go out there and be the most physical team on the field.”

  71. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks or are they?

OBJ maybe injured worse than we’ve been told

Maybe he has connections, that did him a solid, we may never know, but why not give a guy that has skills a shot, someone that could go to the PS for a call up later in the year

With Achane presumably in line for more WR snaps this year I find the move odd too

yeah, I’m just throwing shut at the wall😜

Bring in Tkachuk and some other tough guys and the dynamic of the team changed to bad boys, we all know what they did the last 2 years

Fins need to be more physical, especially on 3rd or 4th and 1 or 2

The revised rule book has language aimed at ending pre-snap, CFL-style “cheat motion” used by teams like the Dolphins and the 49ers.

Miami Dolphins OL coach Butch Barry says he wants snapping to be better and cleaner and more perfect. The more full speed snaps at this in practice the better. When it’s right, it’s like a good golf swing.

The Dolphins will be good when Tua stop acting soft AF 100.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

besides being personal, what’s the difference with that and what Poyer said?

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I’m sure they discuss it every year. It’s not like the locker room speech is “let’s go out there and fold under pressure again today boys!”

mental and physical toughness can be taught to a point, but it’s a mentality and a culture that is developed over time. Hopefully some of the new pieces will contribute to that because last years team didn’t have it.

    @WingfieldNFL

Tyreek Hill talked about River Cracraft today: He understands the offense. He’s always in the right place … He’s the one guy who’s going to make a key block for Mostert/Achane that springs them. He’s smart, he knows where to be on the field, you can always count on him.

Tua with a 35 yard touchdown down the middle to Julian Hill. Defense bluffed a blitz, Tua saw it and ripped it immediately to the open TE for the score.
