I can’t believe we’re already here, but sure enough, the football season’s first tease is Preseason Game 1. There’s not really a lot of substance one can garner from a preseason game, but as always, this is an opportunity for some players to give themselves a chance to solidify a roster spot. Most of the starters will not be playing, and if they do, it will be a short time, maybe a series or less. QB Tua Tagovailoa who was just paid a mint will not partake in this game, so it will be Mike White and Skylar Thompson at the helm. There will be many roster decisions to make when the final cutdown to 53 happens, and the QB battle could be one of those. If they decide to carry only 2 QB’s on the roster, then White and Thompson are essentially fighting for the backup job. The Dolphins chose to carry 3 Qb’s last season, but due to the heavy rotation on the D-line, and the necessity to carry a number of backups on the O-line, carrying 3 QB’s may not be a luxury the Dolphins can afford.
So who are the players to watch? That depends on who you talk to, but there are a few I look forward to seeing, and a few others who I hope have a good showing to make the roster. I’ll start on the offensive side of the ball. RB Jaylen Wright should see a decent amount of touches and it would be wonderful to see him shine. Starter Raheem Mostert, who bulked up 15 lbs last season and had a career best. I can assure you the Dolphins aren’t going to overuse the 32 year old running back, despite having a year any NFL RB would love to have, over 1000 yards rushing, a nice 4.8 YPC average, and of course 18 rushing TD’s. De’Von Achane is a HR hitter but also a guy who already early in his career has struggled to stay healthy. Achane trailed Mostert by only 212 yards with less than half the carries (103) to (209) for Mostert. Still, Achane only appeared in 11 games due to injuries. Therefore, it’s so important that rookie Jaylen Wright shows the Dolphins he can assume either role if necessary.
Other players to watch on the offensive side is basically anyone and everyone on the offensive line. While most won’t be starting, we saw last year how often the backups were pressed into service, so believe me, this counts. For position players, TE Julian Hill has been drawing lots of attention in camp, both as a blocker and receiver, so I would like to see him give us a glimpse of that. Rookie WR Malik Washington is buried on the depth chart, but a strong showing in the preseason could elevate him. Veteran WR’s Braxton Berrios and River Cracraft both have a leg up as they have so much experience, both with Mike McDaniel and of course the Dolphins offense. I don’t believe WR Erik Ezukanma is healthy, and if that’s the case and he’s unable to play, I fear his chances of making the roster are slipping away.
On the defensive side of the ball, there are quite a few guys I really want to watch. OLB Quinton Bell who’s been a hot topic all throughout training camp while impressing reporters and coaches alike. Of course rookie OLB Chop Robinson and rookie OLB Mo Kamara are guys I want to see playing well. Despite many signs pointing to OLB Jaelan Phillips potentially being ready to play Week 1 of the regular season, I always prefer to err on the side of caution, and I feel the team will as well. Bradley Chubb, on the other hand is not progressing as quickly, which makes sense since he was injured about a month later than Phillips. I also want to see ILB Anthony Walker who also has been making noise.
On the defensive line, both starting DE’s Zach Sieler and Calais Campbell won’t play, so we’ll see a fair amount of Gallimore, Mack, Hand, Harris and Kendricks. Being this is preseason, I’m thinking we won’t see much of Emmanuel Ogbah who recently signed, but if we do, I’m curious how much time he gets on the D-line, as opposed to playing OLB. I maintain he’s better suited there, but last I looked, I’m not the DC. In the secondary, don’t bet on getting our first look at S Jordan Poyer in a Dolphins uni. Do expect to see a fair amount of rookie Patrick McMorris and veteran Elijah Campbell. Marcus Maye might also get some reps, as well as Mark Perry. I think Jalen Ramsey, Kendall Fuller will sit, but CB’s Kader Kohou, Cam Smith, and Ethan Bonner, who has also turned some heads in training will get lots of snaps. Mayhaps we see Storm Duck, who at the very least has an amusing name.
As per usghe, we hope to see some nice plays, and most of all, hope for no injuries. I don’t expect a whole lot of scoring, the offense will be as vanilla and as basic as possible, and same goes for the defense. I suppose I want to see if TE Jody Fortson has even the slightest chance of making the roster, because TE could be a place we carry only 3. Durham Smythe and Jonnu Smith are locks, and the way Julian Hill has been talked up, the tall, lanky Fortson appears to have an upHill battle. I want to see how the new kickoff rule looks out there, although this morning I was listening to WQAM and both Joe Rose, and especially Mike Florio from PFT feel that it’s almost certain that kicking the ball into the endzone for a touchback at the 30 yard line is going to be the NFL norm. That’s a shame, because in general, it can be such an exciting play, especially will all the speedy options we have to deploy back there, but such is life. Maybe the Preseason will be the testing grounds. Once again, lets hope we stay healthy and have no injuries!
GO DOLPHINS!!!

Thank you, Mike E.! So, glad football season is almost back….thank god…lol.
YW!
Maybe you didn’t hear Mike, there’s a new rule that says you can put your 3rd string QB on the practice squad, he can come into the game and not count against the 53
he Dolphins chose to carry 3 Qb’s last season, but due to the heavy rotation on the D-line, and the necessity to carry a number of backups on the O-line, carrying 3 QB’s may not be a luxury the Dolphins can afford.
Actually, I did NOT hear that. That’s cool, hopefully unnecessary for us this season though!
🤞
Kohou was playing WR in the Wednesday joint practice, think they just needed bodies
That’s odd, we have a lot of guys, but maybe there are a couple of guys banged up
we recently signed 2 guys, because Waddle, Berrios and OBJ are out
I don’t agree kickers will be just kicking it into the EZ
From what I saw most returns bottles up quickly around 25
Poyer has been out injured, he likely won’t play tonight
I want to see Paul start at LT, he looked good at joint practice
Wright looked like a vet, Achane looked like a seasoned vet, then there’s Cracraft in the orange jersey he already made the team
fagettaboutit, the season will be a step back, so no need to watch tonight or the regular season
We lost all those guys and didn’t replace them

@NFL
Patriots releasing WR JuJu Smith-Schuster. (via @rapsheet)
he’s prolly pissed, their QBs are so bad, like Jonnu leaving last year, so pissed he gave up
Looks like I’ll be going to NO Name Sports Bar tonight to watch Fins
I think Malik is going to be a very good receiver for us this year or next, if not given much of a chance
When I see him out there running routes I see another Achane, he doesn’t have the speed, but he’s in the open field a lot running routes (7-11)

It’s how you run the routes.
What a concept, a great WR doesn’t want to play on a team with a shitty QB

Or more like a rebuilding team. We don’t know how Drake Maye or Joe Milton will turn out yet. They are 2 good prospects to have.
Randy, I’m not holding my breathe. I drove up there that evening and took him to dinner. No progress.
I’m going to keep looking, I have 6 years or so before I fully retire. Hopefully VA rates stay under 6% but I’m not holding my breathe on that either.
Anyone have a link for the game?
I’m getting it locally fortunately
nflbite.com is the only one I know of. Good luck if you never used it before lots of land mines.
how are you getting it, when I can’t down here, unless it will be on Guide says no
I might try this:

Ken – The game will be on NFLN at 1:30AM if you want to record it.
Also at 7am tomorrow.

replay
Cheats look like Cheet
Steve our local ABC channel 9 from Orlando is showing it
probably here too them, but WTF I’m at the bar
Q. Bell 56 looks like a bad man
Let’s see it
Let’s roll
Happy Football Season Y’all
maybe we still need Barrios
Skylar starts
Grayson Murphy looks like a player.
Skylar didn’t look too good.
Kion Smith injured
Walking off 👍
2 good plays by Neal already.
Sanders from 58 💥
DAMN!!
56 yard fist pump
That hit up in the net also. Could have been good from 60+
Glad Kion Smith looks to be ok
Sanders heating up
That was Ethan Bonner that got beat bad there.
is the game on? My cable shows the channel it’s supposed to be on and recording, but it’s an infomercial?
just regular CBS here
CBS 4 in Miami has it. Not sure why you aren’t getting it.
The new kick off bullshit is idiotic
I hate it
Fucked by the NFL again.
Tackle Kion Smith was in playing LG when he got dinged up.
The Skylar project might be over. Need to draft Jaxson Dart next year.
The Pigster and I wanted us to draft Joe Milton.
Me too, I hate he’s a pat
Just tuned in to see Skyler throw an INT.
*Skylar
Murphy down holding his knee.
Rock, this is working fine for me

Wow, sorry ass block attempt by Fortson there
Big play Tanner Conner
Tanner! Bye Bye Fortson. Was Conner lining out wide on that?
lining up
Couldn’t tell, I thought it might have been a wheel route but he could have been outside
Conner!!!
Another crappy block attempt by Fortson
Wilson always runs hard.
@WingfieldNFL
Jason Sanders’ 58-yard field goal drills the back of the net between the uprights. That thing was good from 68.
—————-
That’s what it looked like.
Stone hands Wilson
He redeemed himself
Wilson 💥
good throw by Skylar
Gotta run. Talk with y’all later!
GO PHINS!!!
HELL YEAH!!!
And Wilson makes up for it
Weaver better wear a hat for day games he’ll fry that dome
So far, not seeing anyone off the edge get any pressure
Maye and McMorris both tackling well. We need them to do that.
I think that was a weakness reported during the draft on McMorris.
You’re right, not the case tonight. He’s hitting and wrapping up.
Needham big time swat
That’s the Needham we remember
BTW, that was a long 1st quarter. There were the injuries though.
Malik
The Wright show starting up
Zoom
Paul good block
Wright!
Brooks!
Nice to see the rookies bite!
Nice looking class
Hmmm…good to see the Dolphins again…even at this point
Wouldn’t be right to not have one of those on a good drive
Come on man, this 1st half is gong to last 2 hours at this rate.
Wright as rain 💥
Wright!!!
Wright looks like the real thing.
Heh,
I haven’t seen that play in awhile?
Was that a straight up off tackle, with no BS??????
Wright kid looks really good. Shoot…Miami may be a running team.
That was an ugly series
Snead and Brayson Sanders both can’t catch.
Neither has helped themselves tonight
It would be nice to see if Tindall could make some kind of jump.
I don’t see it. He’ll never amount to much. Swing and a miss on him. It happens.
is it his brains why he can’t get it done?
Bonner another good play.
Brooks runs hard
^^^
Gonna be tough cuts in the RB room
Skylar way too late with that throw.
^^
Why not let Sanders kick? It was only going to be 60 yards
his 58 harder hit the net 10 yards back
Tindall!!
Tindall, Cop and Phillips together could be Nascar D
Chop
Wright looks great, his vision is top notch
especially on his TD
Tindal needed that.
seemed like a lot less pre-snap motion .
Hmmm…I don’t know anyone…but seems like some pups are biting…lol..Love it!
Maybe we got a DC who can get Tindal’s motor running?
Maybe
I love the running game…holy fuck if this goes!
Halftime. Fucking Brits have lost their minds. Threatening to extradite Americans for online comments. Good luck with that.
UK, what’s up with that?
Skylar was awful tonight, his accuracy continues to be an issue
^
Draft Jaxson Dart! 3rd or 4th round
So every kickoff goes back to roughly the 25 on average so instead of a touchback they added a play with hitting for the same thing.
And it looks ridiculous
^
Has Snead always sucked so bad?
No it’s Tua’s fault
Know nothing about him prior to tonight.
They want to play more and more games but they also don’t want injuries (lol)
Instead of making football look like synchronized swimming
Expand the rosters have 60-65 guys ready for your 18 game inevitable schedule
Conner poor guy is made of glass
^
No shit. Dude is fragile.
he’s really a WR. not built to be a TE.
Not Conner hurt. Dammit!
Don’t know who’s fault that fumble was, White or Wright?
Only the strong survive. Cut him with an injury settlement, move on.
Ah, that’s the Marine in ya talking. lol
We won’t leave him behind. We’ll bring the body back.
speed kills
62 with the spring block
👀
I know who that is. Hopefully another UDFA gem
These bottom of the roster WR’s SUCK!
I see a couple of vet WR’s that don’t have to call any movers!
Smith-Schuster just became a FA
lol, yup
Another good play by McMorris
Back up QBs suck
^^^^
White doesn’t look too good either.
beer to phish
