2024 Season – Game 3 – Dolphins @ Seahawks

This 2024 NFL Season was supposed to be a Super Bowl run for our Miami Dolphins, at least that was the hype. Here at FMU, we looked at weaknesses on this team, more specifically, the trenches. We were very skeptical of the offensive line, and why shouldn’t we have been? We didn’t upgrade, we lost 2 of our best linemen in OC Connor Williams and RG Robert Hunt. Our starting LG is last year’s backup who wasn’t even on the roster to start to the 2023 season. Our starting OC, Aaron Brewer was jettisoned by the Titans, and although our previous OC Connor Williams had some snapping issues, his pass and run blocking were both excellent. Our starting RG was last year’s backup OC, Liam Eichenberg. RT Austin Jackson is basically a constant. Our starting LT, now fighting off a shoulder injury has been playing for 13 years in the NFL and has never completed a full season. Don’t expect 2024 to be the first. He’s already come out of the game with injuries, and although he’s our best, he’s also fragile. While we’re speaking of fragile, did I mention our starting QB has another concussion?

If you hate to read it, scroll on by, because I’m going to remind all of you how very much I was against the Miami Dolphins handing our QB Tua Tagovailoa a huge contract. Mostly, the reason was his injury history, but a fair percentage of that was his inability to show up in big games. Well, both were on display last week in our first matchup with the Buffalo Bills. Tua did his best to prove me right on both counts, completing 25 passes for 239 yards, 1 TD and 3 INT’s. WR Grant Dubose should have got his head around, WR Robbie Chosen ran the wrong route. Please STOP! We have WR’s Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, TE Jonnu Smith, RB’s De’Von Achane and Jaylen Wright, the ball didn’t have to go to either of those guys, #1 makes that decision, he throws the ball. I don’t need to tell you that relying on 2 guys who have been here no more than 2 weeks is absurd. So now we’re left with our backup QB Skylar Thompson for a minimum of 4 games as QB Tua Tagovailoa goes on IR.

There’s starting to be a little more scrutiny of Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel. Sure, he’s a likable guy, he’s funny, amusing, and supposedly an offensive genius. The problem is, when teams have figured out what type of defense to play against our offense to shut it down, Mike McDaniel has yet to find the solution to keep scoring like we scored on all the other teams. The tape is out there, teams know to have 2 safeties high and take away the long ball, keep everything in front of them, and as long as it’s executed well enough, they take both WR’s Tyreek Hll and Jaylen Waddle out of their game. I honestly have no idea if Skylar Thompson will be running the same offense Tua Tagovailoa was running, but I don’t think Skylar can have the same timing and anticipation that Tua had. We’ll see how much the offense is more tailored to Skylar, and I guess we’ll get somewhat of an idea if our season is lost or not.

I mentioned the trenches earlier, and now I’m going to touch on the defensive side. The defense was a strength for this team, at least until the injuries started coming and never stopped. The defensive line of Zach Sieler, Raekwon Davis and Christian Wilkins was a strength. Sieler is still there, but now he’s next to NT Benito Jones, and then next to him is DE Calais Campbell. Campbell is still a great player, but at 38, he can’t be expected to play high snap counts anymore, but the rotation was supposed to be the hallmark of the D-line. Tsunamis, waves of players, but that turned out to be false advertising, as we only have 6 DL, Sieler, Jones and Campbell, Emmanuel Ogbah, Brandon Pili and Da’Shawn Hand. That’s no tsunami. Now sometimes we’ll play a 4 man front, and we’ll employ speed packages with OLB’s Jaelan Phillips, Chop Robinson, Quinton Bell and probably Mo Kamara at some point, but in 2 games, I don’t think NFL teams are fearing our defensive line. Buffalo RB James Cook averaged 7 yards per carry (11-78) and managed 3 TD’s, 2 rushing, 1 receiving.

The Seattle Seahawks are 2-0, and they are always a tough get at home. We’ll be facing 2 former Dolphins players on Sunday, OC Connor Williams, and the always under appreciated ILB Jerome Baker (#55). There will be no hype from me about what I expect from this team right now. I have no idea and little expectation of what QB Skylar Thompson can do with this offense. We picked up QB Tyler Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens PS, and even though Sonny loves him, I’m not any more optimistic about Huntley leading us to victories in Tua’s absence. Our mighty WR corps is anything but, once you get past Hill and Waddle. Grant Dubose, Malik Washington (who is banged up) and Braxton Berrios, who has yet to record a reception. I hope our defense with all its tsunamis carries the day, because that offense could be downright ugly!

I think they have to go for it

  2. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

they’ve already kicked a fg from here

  3. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The mistake was throwing it to Berrios

  4. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Boyle’s 1st pass was on 4th down, and it was as awful as you would expect.

To be fair, that was a tough pass, the receiver was like 5 yards away and stationary. Not only that, but Boyle had a clear passing lane. Ideally, he would have gotten a couple of easy throws before having to attempt that one.

  5. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

They had to go for it. You can’t expect this team to score more than once per quarter

  6. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

imagine if they would have punted it

    wtf is MM doing

  7. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

lol, you know, it’s kinda getting lost in the sheer vastness of Dolphins and refs ineptitude, but the Seahawks have played a pretty ugly game too.

  8. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    WOOOOHOOOOO!!!

  9. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Everyone getting their wish next week? Huntley at QB?

  10. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Julian hill is horrible

  11. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

SMH, another penalty on A. Hill

  12. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I mean, Boyle is so bad, they won’t even let him throw past the line of scrimmage…why is he on the team?

  13. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

That was a really good punt

  14. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Defense needs to score

  15. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Not gonna lie, I played Jonnu Smith and sat Goedert in FF. I thought he would be a crutch for Skylar. I ain’t been right bout nuffin

  16. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Nows the time the D gets gassed and it’s really over

  17. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Now Geno Smith throwing exclusively to his TE’s to mock me

  18. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

No one can still cover a TE

  19. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Woohooo, Sieler

  20. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Wow, crazy shit, another INT

  21. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

all this speed we need some one to break a big play off

  22. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Seiler!!!!

Oh damn, now the offense has to come back on the field

  23. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I can’t believe they are arguing that PI

  24. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I was really hoping Seiler would run that one back for the score…but I knew that was probably unlikely.

He still probably had a better chance than our offense does.

  25. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

At least we are not losing like this at home like the Raiders and Cowboys

  26. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

LOL, Panthers with a slight lead on the Raiders

  27. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Oh damn, it’s 3rd and short again

  28. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Why is Boyle starting to look better than Skylar?

I guess that’s not hard to do

  29. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Bring in Big Paul and run it to his side.

  30. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Well that’s a good sign

  31. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Ahhh man, that was a good throw

  32. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    We suck in short yardage

  33. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

MM should have called a screen pass with a double reverse there. WTF

  34. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

McDaniel probabky just had the worst game of his coaching career

  35. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    wow…4 tries inside 5 yards…pathetic

  36. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Boyle definitely looks better than Skylar. So….what are the coaches watching at practice that they never went and got a backup? Boyle just got here, thrown into the game and looks better than a guy that’s been here 3 years

    These coaches suck

  37. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

BBM, CAV and Piggy only ones still watching. lol

  38. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Good grief

  39. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

A score there and it gets interesting. Not now

  40. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Thank god it’s almost over

  41. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I better not see Achane, Hill or Waddle in the game on this drive. If he is, I’m calling for MM’s head.

  42. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

I was just thinking no one had scored since the first quarter. 😂

  43. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Charbonnet was averaging 2.1 a carry coming into this game. Today he has 91 yards at 5.1 a carry.

  44. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Bri mentioned it earlier; but thinking about how poorly this team is constructed and how screwed we are with our QB situation, I can’t help but wonder where this team would be if we’d selected Herbert and Flores was still here.

  45. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

McDaniel tried to run the same exact offense with Skyler Thompson thst he runs for Tua. I didn’t see any adjustments

  46. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

They smiling on the sideline because they know in the end they are getting paid

  47. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I can’t believe Achane is still in this game taking hits. He’s been the best player on offense this year and this game is over.

  48. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

If they can keep this drive going, we can win TOP! 🙂

  49. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

One more penalty and we can win that stat

  50. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    1 for 15 on 3rd and 4th down today

  51. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I found it! We won the turnover battle today

  52. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

I want to hear what fanboy says about this. Actually….I don’t. Same ol same ol

  53. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

At least I will be able to spend more time focusing on fishing now and hunting later.

  54. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Well, as enjoyable as that was, all good things must end, so I’m calling it an end to my football day.

  55. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

On the bright side, we get to watch the Chiefs manhandle the Falcons tonight

  56. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I had sound off. They ever say what Skylar’s injury was?

  57. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Rams with the comeback W on the 49er’s

  58. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I’m just glad we fixed our OL issues this offseason. I wouldn’t want the guys running our offense to ever get hurt or anything.

  59. New Age's avatar New Age says:

McD is not a very good coach. This team had a much better offense under Flores. Yeah, it’s true. If McD doesn’t have a bad team helping him past our mistakes, we don’t have a chance to win. Going to get really ugly this year.

  60. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I hope Huntley is studying this playbook every waking moment, because Skylar cannot run this offense. Neither can Boyle . We are fucked

  61. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    SMMFH *sigh*

This is why we should have UPGRADED from Skylar, not sign Tim fuckin’ Boyle when we cut Mike White. Will Tyler Huntley be the answer? I highly doubt it… especially behind this absolutely inept O-Line.

Tua’s obviously the MVP of this entire team. Problem? Concussions… and now we’re paying him OBSCENE $$$. I get that shit happens, but he should have kept playing at same weight he was last season. If it ain’t broken, don’t try to fix it, right?

We DON’T need a nimble QB, though it’s all the fad in the NFL (see Mahomes and Allen, woo woo woo…). We need the Tua of last season (15-20 pounds heavier and stronger than now), PLUS a legit fuckin O-Line to protect him and to provide for our elite RBs!!! I think MOST everybody not named McDaniel and Grier understood that!!! Instead, McDaniel and Grier put on their best Alfred E. Neuman face regarding our O-Line: “What, me worry?”. SMH

Don’t know enough about our Defense… rookie DC in Anthony Weaver. Remember last season, vet and star-studded DC Vic Fangio started out very slow for us as well until about midway through the season.

Our Offense is absolutely abysmal right now and if I’m not mistaken, we haven’t had a lead in 12 quarters this season. Remember, we beat the Jags as time was expiring when Jason Sanders drilled the game-winner in week 1.

Our season isn’t officially over, but it sure as hell feels like it to me as I see it today. Too many injuries already, not enough foresight to reinforce the trenches on both sides of the ball, and too many of our players are among the highest paid at their respective positions.

Truly, Tua makes all the difference for us… if and when he’s healthy. And even then, there’s no guarantee he can put the team on his shoulders to win a game for us against the greater teams… at least thus far. And now… he’s got another concussion (referring to last week, of course). We’re going NOWHERE with Skylar, Boyle, or Huntley.

  62. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I am going fishing tomorrow and Tuesday. Wednesday I will be getting ready for a tropical storm or a hurricane. So, as I watch the trees blow in the wind on Thursday, I think I will have to do a blow it up mock draft.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m looking forward to your mock draft, my friend. Hey… be SAFE regarding a tropical storm or hurricane… ALL of y’all in the area.

  63. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Draft away! This season is toast with or without our overpaid QB.

  64. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Offense sucked but not surprised with 2nd and 3rd string QBs playing. Play calling was atrocious. No effort to maintain a running game. D does not get a pass. They played horribly in the first quarter. They settled down and played better rest of the game but by then it was too late

  65. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

These are our current projected draft picks after today’s games. It is possible we move a spot up after tomorrow if the Chiefs win tonight and the Bengals win Monday night at home vs Washington. Also, if Jags lose at the Bills Monday night, that will lessen our SOS and move us up even more. I thought OG Robert Hunt was still out with an injury, but he is not and has played in all the Panthers games. So, they now project us having two 3rd round comps for Wilkins and Hunt instead of a 3rd and 4th.

    1st – Pick #7

    2nd – Pick #38

    3rd – Pick #98 (comp), Pick #99 (comp)

    4th – Pick #105

    5th – Pick #148 (from Denver), Pick #153

    7th – Pick #218 (from Chicago), Pick #228, Pick #249 (comp)

  66. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

There will be several player trades for picks as well. I did say blow it up!

  67. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

we need a tough minded head coach, we had him, but let him go to Detroit

I’d promote Weaver up to HC, to mold the team to his personality, would need a mentor on the staff to help him run things

  68. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    I don’t think you can blame the D this game…maybe I’m misremembering…lol

There was a whole quarter and half and the O was on the 5 with 4 fucking tries to make this a game…

…just fucking stop on blaming the D. Lol

….why isn’t Crossman driving home? Because he should have been fired at halftime….but let’s fuck up on first play of 2nd half…omfg!

    lol…what a shitshow!

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

The D was bad in the first quarter. They looked soft. Gave up 3 scoring drives in first quarter. Played well the other 3 quarters but the game is 4 quarters long

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Stop it…the o set up the D to fail ALL game long…lol

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

The O GAINED 45 yards each quarter for 3 fucking quarters. …just stop it…lol

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I don’t disagree the O sucked. But the D put you behind 17-3 out of the box with your back up QBs in the game. The first quarter Geno Smith was near perfect including a one play 71 yard drive. But I suppose that was on the O as well lol. The D doesn’t get a pass in this game

  69. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tua is our savior and our demise all wrapped up in one. I can’t imagine we can ever count on him to stay healthy, or beat a better team when we need him to. It’s like rooting for a boxer with a glass jaw. Sometimes you get hit, it’s a physical contact sport, and if he goes down, he’s probably down and OUT

  70. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    So now we know…

….you can have the fastest fucking team on the planet, but if you can’t control the trenches, fuck your wizardry…lol

  71. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    I’m so pissed. Lol

  72. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

The offense is trash. Our players run 15 yds before the plays start then have to sit out the next play. It constantly keeps our “stars” off the field on big downs. It doesn’t confuse anyone or free anyone up.

I unfortunately have the ticket and get to see other teams with wide open receivers and not have to run around for 5 seconds before the snap and have to constantly hurry to get the ball snapped on time.

  77. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

    Tyreek

    Achane

    Waddle

    Smith

the fact that we had only 3 points is entirely fucking unacceptable. Teams with less talent put up points and win. I am so down on MM as our head coach right now.

I said last year I wasn’t sold on him. He consistently got out coached by the better coaches in the league. That’s one reason we couldn’t beat the good teams.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Since you listed Smith, I remembered he actually is a TE on this team. I thought he was just a big RB they throw a screen to once in awhile.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Mostert being out has really hurt, because our dumbass coach doesn’t trust the rookie

not really sure why, every time I watch Wright he’s gaining good yardage

Anyways, with Mostert it would allow Achane to be our slot WR

  78. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

only thing worse than MMs coaching is him doing an interview, ah ah dut dut, like a retard, then he tries to say something clever, which takes forever and more ah ahs

  79. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

can’t wait for the draft, so we can find out who the 7 2025 inactives will be

  80. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

    Krishna,

I’m not giving the O a pass whatsoever, but to take any blame off the D isn’t accurate. They helped put us in a 17-3 hole. It was a team effort.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The D played better after the first 3 drives, but Seattle was also taking it easy with game in hand

all 4 units were horrible, and it’s inexcusable, we had an extra 3 days to prepare, MM probably gave them 5 days off

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

you could say the D was better than the others, but with Tua out the D needed to step up and match Seattle’s D, they didn’t

I see on “X” or twitter that all of a sudden Brian Flores is getting tons of Dolphins love. That needs to stop, it really does. He’ll probably never be a Head Coach in the NFL, so leave it be. He’s a defensive coordinator, and sometimes not even a good one at that.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

I don’t have love for him, but he was right all along. He just went scorned lover over it all instead of just laughing at this franchise from afar.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I can’t stand Flores and even though he may have been right on some things, he’s still a scumbag and wasn’t a good HC. Acting like a jilted lover with some prostitute doesn’t make Dolphins fans look good in the least.

I didn’t even think to check on the outcome until this morning when the guy on the am news reported on the “terrible loss”.

I have made the right decision. Fuck the NFL and the Miami Dolphins in particular.

I hope you guys find joy in your lives in other ways. I am going to keep on this path and ignore the NFL moving forward. It was the best Sunday I have had since, well, last Sunday, when I also didn’t care. I don’t even care enough to officially change my avi back to the atom bomb. You all know it needs to be blown up now. Maybe if they start winning in a few years I will start caring again. Hopefully NOT.

Take care guys. I’ll lurk from time to time.

      Tua

I haven’t heard Fitz say anything about him. I’m curious to what he thought about him. He did have the team win games they weren’t supposed to.

  91. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

A Look Back at Miami Dolphins vs. Seattle Seahawks

What went wrong? Where to begin?

Let’s start with the offensive line.

    https://www.profootballnetwork.com/20-stats-explain-miami-dolphins-loss-seattle-seahawks/

  92. New Age's avatar New Age says:

We have not held a lead during any of our games this year. We are the only team in the NFL to not hold a lead during any point of 180 minutes of football this season. We beat Jax as time expired . Imagine an offensive guru who can’t find a way to get a lead after 3 games. It’s time for McD and Grier to go. This team is terrible.

  93. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

We probably lost 2 CB’s for next game in Fuller and backup Duck. Not sure who else.

  94. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

We ran the ball well (except on short yardage). MM’s play calling sucked. He gave up on the run early before we were even down a lot. We were getting chunk yards running on 1st and 2nd down. We should have kept running it down their throats until they came out of that 2 high safety look.

These teams don’t give a shit about all this fancy motion. Bills game and this game showed teams all you have to do is play 2 high and you, for the most part, neutralize Hill and Waddle.

Vs. Bills – Hill 3 rec for 24 yards, Waddle 4 rec for 41 yards

Vs. Seahawks – Hill 3 rec for 40 yards, Waddle 4 rec for 26 yards

MM is such a guru but he has nothing to counter 2 high safety look. He runs the same route concepts. QB has nothing underneath.

We should have kept running the ball up the middle on early downs with quick hitters mixed in the pass game to the TE’s and RB’s.

How hard is that to figure out for MM?

Look at BBM. He had the most relaxing morning. Got up at 5am and hit the beach with 2 rods, backpack, and small cooler before sunup. Water was amazing, calm and no waves. If there was a wave, it caused a little 2″ splash on the shoreline. Caught 4 flounder and kept 2. Probably would have caught more but there were bluefish everywhere and they kept cutting me off and I ran out of jig heads.

Now BBM is back home and all pissed off again. LOL

ER – Tua is a better QB than Flores is a Head Coach. Tua’s problem is he can’t stay healthy, and has played poorly in clutch situations late in the season. No question he has talent though, and Flores was a dick to not only sabotage Tua’s career, but the team as well because he didn’t like or respect Tua.

Did he sabotage his career? If anything he prolonged it by not playing him. Lol

Fitz was the better QB. Why is not ok for the rookie QB to sit and learn for a season? It’s pretty clear the upper level management pulled that string and got Tua on the field. I’m guessing he didn’t like someone else calling the shots on who played. It is what it is at this point and I still think Flores was right. Tua just ain’t it.
